I think you are someone who think ranks means something other than how much you play.
i think the point he is making is’nt about the reward, but that it was a solely Spvp thing and was advertised nowhere, just kinda thrown in out of the blue.
whereas if it was a pve thing, lets say 30% more gold/karma or something,
it’d be advertised all over the place before hand.
basically showing the amount of “cares” that a pvp event gets compared to a pve one.
atleast thats what i gathered from reading it.
edit: thats just my interpretation, i’m just happy we got something! :-3
(well most people did, i worked all weekend qq!)
yes, they’ve said that they will be removing them, so open them
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/phasing-out-pvp-glory/
“This post is to let you know that glory will no longer be awarded as of a maintenance build that is currently planned for March 18.
At that time we will also be removing all existing random reward chests from PvP.”
rather than acting like a smart-kitten like the guys above, i’ll take a better approach since we all went through the stage of mesmer hate before we figured out the “tells”.
1. movement, if the clones are in range and line-of-sight of you they won’t move
(unless shattered, in which case they’ll all run right at you)
look for a mesmer whos running around, backpeddling or strafing, thats usually the easiest tell.
2. clones will only cast one skill, and its usually only every 2-3 seconds,
look for the mesmer who is casting other skills or is casting at different intervals to the others
3. target the main mesmer and unless they stealth then they will remain your target,
if they do stealth keep your eyes open and watch for them reappearing.
4. conditions, spamming conditions on the mesmer will both take him down even while he’s hiding in stealth and also help you to identify him when he reappears,
just nuke the one thats covered with DoTs!
finally you can just aoe the clones down, shatters and phantasms make up the majority of a mesmers damage, taking them out only takes a hit or two, and will make things difficult for the mesmer
you can actually get any armour skin you want if you get enough glory
for instance, if you want rank 50 armour check the rewards page on wiki,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_reward
you can see that ascalon gear is rank 50,
the new glory vendor sells that for 20,000 glory, buy it, salvage it, hope for tokens!
(though i did this and got only arcane powders, literally nothing else… so its a gamble!)
i’d previously spent soooo much glory on mystic coffers, got some rares (a couple of frozen weapons), but imho it’d be a better gamble to just save up for high ranked sets to salvage
my problem with guiardian greatsword is that it just feels sooooo slow and useless waiting for long cooldowns while warriors are whirling their greatswords around every few seconds,
guardian greatsword is boring due to the lengthy cooldowns
it’d be fun if they added the GW1 height mechanic, but for the ranger alone,
were the higher you are above your target the further you can hit them from and the more damage you’ll do,
this would put the “range” in ranger and make them really seem like “the master of ranged combat” that they’re supposed to be (not being VASTLY outperformed by a warrior)
Anet said they fixed it, and they’ll ship it with the big pvp patch.
ah the mythical “big pvp patch” its like the bigfoot of GW2,
some people believe its out there and they keep expecting to see it. XD
i’m totally flabbergasted that death match hasn’t happened yet.
it is so easy to implement, simply turn off the capture points and increase the points for kills to 10 or something, first team to 500 wins like normal.
my only worry about deathmatch is that for every mode that they add the (already small) pvp community gets even more fractured.
what we don’t want in maps:
NPCs
(perhaps objectives like Lords and Svanir/Chieftain,
but not simply for combat like Crapricorn sharks)
Cheap Enviromental Weapons
(looking at you skyhammer and trebuchets.)
Troll Playgrounds
(ledges made purely for troll builds to stealth and knock enemies from.)
(Skyhammer in a nutshell)
Water Combat
(it just doesn’t work…though i have no doubt they’ll probably release an entire map of water combat…)
an idea for the next map would be to add a pit in the center,
and any kills made in that pit add 10-15 points for your team.
or just make that the entire map and don’t add any conquest points, TDM!
i love hotjoin, rank 41 (almost entirely from hotjoin) now and have only ever chosen a side once (to get revenge on someone for trash talking)
imho it was better before spectator, when we were just put straight in to the game without the need for clicking random or a side.
i don’t think i could have less pity for an AI crutch build.
i hate mesmers, but i hate MMs even more.
apparently one of the higher up balance devs mains an engi, or so i hear
its unfortunate but necessary. otherwise people would use client crashing as a way to leave the match without any consequences.
if you hardly ever crash like the rest of us then it shouldn’t effect you,
this was just a freak unlucky occurrence that you crashed in a tournament game.
its analogous to the prison system, not everyone who goes to prison is guilty, there will be a very small percent who were just unlucky to be found guilty,
but the system works, it keeps the real criminals at bay.
i’d say MM, as MM you can quite easily drop bunkers, you also get plenty of CC to fear and knockback for decapping, you’re also pretty darn tanky (both from traits and your wall of meatshields).
if you don’t mind playing a “scum of the earth” cheese build then try MM,
this is my usual goto MM build http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=;0_;3sHkD0z3VI-K0;9;4J-TJ-48;246916;27;5X7X7X7X73Nt
you dont’ really need to weapon swap, just spam staff skills,
sigils runes and amulets are all your choice, i usually go with settlers or clerics amulet, and lich for runes (for an extra minion), and life sigil for extra survival
though one downside is you lose out on movement speed as necro, so you can’t rush between points, but when you get there you will cap it XD
why healingsurge? all of the other HamBowLyssa clones are using healing sig!
give them a decent health pool.
condense some traits together (Fire tree for example, there are some great traits that noone can take because of other mandatory traits.)
or a HUGE buff would be allowing ele to switch weapons so you could use staff for group fights/support and then switch to daggers for smaller fights,
currently staff eles are pretty dam aweful when you have even 1 player attacking you.
(its too heavily reliant on stupidity of your enemy to stand in aoe)
in ANY CTF game you will have such restrictions. I played WoW for a while and sure people complained that WSG was stupid when the other team was using a fully decked Prot warrior, but nobody ever asked for the map to be changed…
^this!
if you’re a warlock you don’t grab the flag, you leave that to a feral druid or warrior with speed boosts.
the exact same goes in GW2, if you’re a necro/guard then just don’t grab the orb, leave it for a warrior or dagger ele
and in both games if you had bad luck and don’t have any good flag carrier, then you just had bad luck.
this is alot less game breaking than trollhammer where certain classes can be invisible and one shot you from out of nowhere.
hambows and MMs
the moment you see 2-3 of the above on your team you can pretty much afk.
though like everyone else said, the only ones i don’t like seeing on my team are thief and ele.
though a smart glass ele can change the tide of battle, and thieves have a really high skill ceiling .
litany of wrath made useful.
useful elites for certain classes (engi/ele/guard etc)
skyhammer gone (either from hotjoin/solo queue or all together!)
all F2P MMOs make their money by selling you useful or cosmetic ingame items,
and pvp has practically neither, ergo they wouldn’t have a reason to offer pvp for free :P
all this effort when they could just separate trollhammer from normal queues,
let the trolls queue for their map separately to the rest of us.
remove trollhammer from hotjoin and solo queue and add a new separate queue for it.
problem solved, trolls keep their map, the rest of us never need to play on it ever again.
trolls seem to like it, so they should leave it as it is but remove it from hotjoin and solo queue and have it as its own separate queue.
that way the trolls can spam their crappy knockback stealth builds all they like on skyhammer while the rest of us play on decent maps.
atleast he says impractical lol.
I would get rid of sword/sheild. u dont want a weaponset jus for fleeing, expesially when only have 5 sec weapon recharge so u cud b making the most out of both of them.
Never axe off hand, skill 5 does same amount as auto attack, auto attack i cleave as well.
if u want a more effecient axe burst build I would take out 10 from power and 10 from precision lines, put those in toughness for cleansing ire.
instead of axe./axe use axe sword (impale hits HARD for 15 sec cooldown and rip also does 2k) and also has a 2.5 sec block
and for offset use either longbow ( combustion shot great team fight aoe and great for theives) also pindown 3 sec immobilize + bleed and u have blind plus arcing arrow hits for 3k crit. also burst is very good with cleansing ire.
or hammer, stuns provide much more sustain with healing sig, very good for reses. burst is also very good with cleansing ire.
as for ur traits and utilitys, replace heightened focus with burst mastery, sharpened axes for burst mastery, and grab the extended stances trait and cleansing ire in toughness section. for utilities all stances zerker, balanced , and endure pain.
Spam ur burst skills for condi cleanse plus near infinite dodge (building momentum+ burst mastery)
kinda changed ur whole build, but its similar, u will still hit very high crits with eviscerate and do alot of dps, and it will work alot better for u.
this build isn’t supposed to be meta, its just incredibly fun, everyone seems to be shunning axe/axe without even trying the build
i know i could replace my entire utility bar with stances and put points in to cleansing ire, but then it’d be just another cookie cutter meta build. XD
at that point i may aswell grab a hammer and longbow and roll my face across the keyboard.
thats not what this build is for, this build is for hilariously high glass cannon damage, just try it in a hotjoin, you’ll have fun
dodge rolling while using whirling axe deals such hilariously high damage
as the title says! i’d like to share my favourite build at the moment “THE AXEZERKER”
NOTE: my aim here was to create an incredibly fun build that feels like a blender,
it is not aimed to be the ultimate meta build
after alot of tinkering to get as much damage out of my glass-cannon warrior as i could muster i think this could be it!
heres the build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-s77FwBFOKkO0o-ZL-60M4oL;1Y4kG;4T9;0T49A0;628B5Rk6N;1sV2DsV2D5Bk
concept
the concept was to wrack up as much damage and crit chance as possible,
the build achieves this through the Deep Strike trait combined with berserker’s power, heightened focus and other raw + damage traits!
what is optional:
secondary weapons (for disengaging)
i use sword and shield only for escaping if the fight goes south, so if you prefer other weapons/sigils for running away then feel free to switch them!
(sword 2 for travelling also)
the bloodlust sigil
on your axe you might prefer fire, strength, accuracy or something else!,
(perhaps purity since the axezerker has no condi-clears)
you’ll always want the force sigil though!
Warrior’s Sprint
i like my 25% movement speed, i think it suits the berserker playstyle, but feel free to switch it if you prefer something else!
how to play Axezerker!
never use the signets!
this build relies heavily on signets for both their passive effects and the crit chance you gain per inactive signet
double dodge while you whirl!
for those who didn’t know, you can dodge while channelling Whirling Axe,
by doing this you can wrack up some pretty epic damage (your whirl will do around 8-10k while you deal around 2-3k per dodge roll, this combo will deal 15-18k damage!
your auto attack is amazing!
i’ve seen the last hit of triple chop do over 5k damage before,
while your “4” and “5” are on cooldown 1 1 1 your enemy into a nice mushy goo!
(opening with “3” cripple and “2” vulnerability can help too)
that’s pretty much it!, hopefully some of you will have a blast blending faces
there was a reason ele was nerfed, it was far too powerful for its time, but with the power creep effect happening to the other professions we could do with the nerf getting reverted (or atleast some of them, not RTL)
back in their hayday an ele could charge against 4-5 players and do constant damage to all of them while maintaining pretty much every boon permanently and never dying.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2_GXr9o-Us
the nerfs were justified then, but they need to be reverted.
for full glassmode try 30/20/0/10/10 for the 10% damage over 90% hp XD
it’d be interesting to see if we could use our “we’re dead” aspect, with lava tomb to lay down double lava fonts on a point and hopefully down a couple of enemies for our allies to stomp, it just sucks that to get lava tomb you need to trade something really awesome.
also the problem with staff ele and tournaments is that most of our skills rely on ground targetting and stupid enemies staying in their effect, and in tournaments it’s generally the case that people know not to stand in your aoe (and to nuke a glass cannon ele first) XD
Conditions are affected by Dodge, blind, block, invulnerability, condition immunties, evade the same way power damage is.
yeah sure!
your warrior is dying? shield block!
“nope!” sorry you’re getting 3k damage a second from burn, poison and bleeds that the necro caused with his auto attack.
got Svanir runes? (they’re fun to mess around with) so you’ve hit 10% hp, don’t worry you’ll turn into an invulnerable ice cube!
“nope!” sorry you’re gonna die to conditions, and you’ve just stunned yourself so you can’t heal.
and then theres the fact that no power damage will continue to kill your enemy when they’re out of your range or around corners, there is no kiting or escaping condition damage.
We have proven without a doubt that a majority, a large majority even, of tournament players hate Skyhammer.
Can you provide the evidences ?
feel free to log in and ask people what they think of the map and how many of them would actually pay to have it removed.
that is the lengths some of us would go through to have skyhammer out of the normal rotations (hotjoin too so we don’t have to keep changing servers repeatedly each time it gets to skyhammer)
its a troll map created for trolls to annoy anyone who is not running a trollhammer specific build.
it doesn’t belong in normal queues.
As for skyhammer in solo arena, we’re kicking around some ideas (definitely not ignoring you guys, just fyi). As of right now, we have no plans to remove it. We’re not quite convinced yet that the majority of our pvp population want it gone, so we’re trying to get metrics on that before we make any changes.
skyhammer is just too different to the other maps in the rotation that you need an entirely different build to play effectively, this makes it impractical to be in the normal rotations,
i don’t think anyone needs skyhammer to be completely removed from the game,
but one idea would be to have it as a standalone map outside of the hotjoin and solo queue, (so people who wish to play skyhammer can queue for skyhammer-only matches)
you know a map is so bad when the 5 people that like it need to make forum threads to pretend it’s good XD
we all know Foefire is a great map, probably the best, when was the last time you saw someone having to attempt to convince people its a good map? XD
fact is, skyhammer is just a very bad idea to be in the normal queues,
its a map catered for trolls if Anet aren’t going to remove it then at the very least they should remove it from the normal queues (hotjoin and solo) and let all of the trolls queue for skyhammer alone.
just decided i HATE these engis with a fiery loathing.
just had a tourney game with an engi who was constantly spamming knockbacks (LITERALLY CONSTANTLY).
i play a (non meta) warrior who can dish out huge amounts of damage, but there is nothing you can do vs such redonkulous spam knockbacks. all it takes is a boon removal which i guess he got from sigil to remove stability, then you’re screwed…
I blame myself for being pushed/pulled of the map.
I like the map becouse it brings more than just character skills and dodge in to the game, it’s also placement and the ability to predict enemy movements.
Atleast every class I have played PvP can push, Pull or fear and every class has skills to negate them.
as everyone above stated, there is no predicting a class that can stealth for 20 seconds+,
they can outstealth whatever stability you have and then pull you from anywhere.
or other classes can just spam so many knockbacks that you don’t have a chance,
and all they need is a boon removal to get rid of stability, you can even get this in a sigil.
its a bad map made specifically for trolls, i will never play the map again and i hope they remove it from hotjoin and Solo, let the trolls queue for skyhammer separately.
Skyhammer should be a map on its own, not in any cycle of maps.
Players who tailor there characters for that map have a HUGE advantage and just farm other players with general PvP builds.
i’ve suggested this too,
add a new NPC were trolls can queue for skyhammer and spam stealths, knockbacks and fears all they like.
remove skyhammer from everything else. (hotjoin and solo que)
it’s a failed map, they just need to admit that and do something about it,
the silence crap is getting old!
remove a certain map beginning with the letter S
add a certain mode containing the letters T, D and M
if you’re a norn and don’t want to pull the ole “nado’ shower” you could slot snow leopard as your elite, it’s a get-out-of-jail-free card, the stealth lets you slip away and the charge will get you so far away from the zerg that you might end up out of render range XD
i even sacrifice my necros flesh golem for snow leopard sometimes when i need to go from A to B in wvw and there are zergs around.
its a gimmick weapon for popping every cooldown you have and one shotting people in wvw.
outside of that very small niche, it is useless,
even for single target dps longbow is miles better.
i spent hours earlier this week trying to get a rifle Spvp build to work,
but the weapon is absolutely aweful in spvp.
they need to remove the bleeds and increase the damage.
yeah MMs are freaking ridiculous atm, the aoe cap needs to go atleast for pvp, we already know that pvp skills are separate from pve skills, so they could remove the aoe cap from pvp skills if they wanted to.
right now with the right specced MM you gain amazing survivability high sustained damage and tons of CC, and all you have to do is click 1 through 5 and resummon minions if they die…
i wish they’d make the new ele heal a ground targeted AoE instead of self targeted
but i don’t think thats what you’re on about.
spam hot joins, you’ll get a pretty nice amount of glory and also 5s (310 games and you have 15g 50s)
and if you’re getting around 370 glory per game that is also 310 matches to reach the 118 glory! (i’m not actually 100% sure on how much glory you get per game, but its pretty good)
also if the average game lasts 10 minutes then 310 games will be 51 hours, not bad for 1-80 without any of the regearing, questing, story work
You people should wake up and not QQ because you just embarrass yourself when you do
kinda ironic, you made such a large QQ thread with the aim to tell people that they look like idiots for QQing. XD
this is the pvp forum, don’t expect to get answers here on how to statpad.
its glory farmers that have ruined the ranking system.
my advice would be to just play hotjoins, lots and lots of hotjoins,
that is if you want to earn your glory legitimately like the rest of us.
well they did try taking the communication approach, telling us what they had in the pipeline, and do you know what happened?
they got aggro and hate when the changes weren’t in the last update.
so i guess now they’ve figured if they don’t talk about plans then people can’t yell, scream and tantrum when the things they talk about aren’t happening right away.
i’ve got to rank 40 from pretty much hotjoin alone, i’ve probably been in maybe 5 tournament matches,
i am a very casual player, i log on once every few days and spend a couple of hours in hotjoin with my none meta builds (axe/axe war, P/P thief), DO NOT chuck me in with the meta-morons!
i wouldn’t log on if all i could do is get facerolled by hambows and condi engis/necros…
trolls love skyhammer, everyone else hates it.
there was a skyhammer appreciation thread on here and all of the comments were things like “lolol playing my engineer is so fun on this map!” trolls trolls trolls…
they should remove skyhammer from ALL pvp modes and add a new npc where trolls can queue for only skyhammer.
i love playing hotjoin and i’m sick of playing afew games and then switching servers because the map rotation gets back around to suckhammer.
just remove it Anet!
I can’t understand why Anet thinks it’s so kitten important to show stuff like glory booster buffs on nameplates. Or mantra charges. Or even signet counts. I have whole stacks of glory boosters but because I run a mesmer, there’s no way I’m using them and giving away my identity. Mantras are the same.
What possible use can it be to an enemy to know whether the other guy is using a glory booster?? Stop showing irrelevant stuff and let me use both mantras as well as glory boosters.
what possible use can it be to display whether or not your enemy has signets and mantras? alot of use!
for example, if i see that my enemy has Signet of Stamina i know he has access to a full condi clear.
if i see my enemy has Signet of Ether i know to kill his clones fast.
same for mantras, if i see you have a readied Mantra of Distraction i know i need to get to cover before trying to heal.
you might aswell ask “why show buffs?” because its the same, the fight alters depending on if your enemy has stability/protection etc just as it would if they had certain mantras/signets.
i think we’re past the stage of people actually being confused by clones now too, so if that was what you were worried about it is kinda mute, if you hit staff 2 nowadays noone will get confused and attack the clone at your previous position.
(and if they are confused that easily then i doubt they’ll be thinking about checking the status bars of their target)
I one shot a poor Luxon Assassin on the Grenz Frontier alliance battle map, from up on that reaaaaalllly high up bridge. It was almost impossible to ever hit anyone from up there, simply because if they change direction even slightly, you miss, and everyone always moves slightly.
Yet somehow I landed Keen Arrow on this Luxon, he took 500 something damage to the face and died, a pure 1 in a million shot..
ouch! XD
i used to run with the armor passing skills aswell as the spirit of favourable winds for the super fast arrows and camp the walls at fort aspenwood, you could snipe down the turtles before they even get close!
depending on what class i’m playing, but its usually my axezerker warrior so i usually love ruining a MMs day by blending their minions before slaughtering the MM XD
or as thief i love dropping shortbow poison field beneath a hambow to screw up their regen and then nuke them from the edge of the fight with p/p unload spam XD
not really a question since the answer is “it’s not here”
but just for discussion, why was it not included? was it considered?
the mechanic:
in GW1 while your character was using a bow you would gain additional (and scaling) range and damage if you were at a higher position to your enemy,
so if you were several feet higher you’d likely see no difference, but stand on top of a castles walls and you’d really see a benefit!
this was brilliant and added a point and purpose to holding the high ground.
one of my favourite experiences in any game was defending fort aspenwood in GW1 as a sniper ranger, really feeling a sense of a home-field advantage.
(for anyone who didn’t play the original GW i’ll help you imaginewhat it was like,
imagine if the keep walls in wvw were 1000 high (so enemies need to get right up close to hit the defenders on top of the walls with their 1200 ranged weapons),
now imagine that your range from on top of the wall is 2000 (and you have a damage increase of 25%), allowing you to hit people as they approach your walls before you enter their range, thats how it was in GW1, you really felt like you had the advantage of a castle’s walls.)
GW2 is missing this sense of a home-field advantage, if your base is being attacked by a large zerging force there is nowhere you can attack from where you are’nt instantly dying to your enemies spamming the walls with aoe.
height enhancing range/damage adds a real depth to strategic positioning, and makes holding the high ground a really epic experience!
“This is totally unfair…” you’re right!
you wasted 4 peoples time by joining a game with unstable internet,
but then you chose to waste 4 more peoples time.
that is indeed very unfair, why has 8 peoples time been wasted because of you?
if your internet is unstable then don’t do tournaments, hotjoin is still there if you need your fix/daily
