probably my biggest issue in this game is AoE target caps.
if you aoe you should hit every enemy in the area, its simple.
if the enemy team all clump up then they deserve the punishment,
if they play minion master then they deserve the punishment.
this would solve all of our issues with ai spamming builds.
people might say that noone would use anything other than AoE,
but there aren’t many classes/specs with effective+spammable AoE (and one of those is LB warrior, which are already spammed)
i’d stopped using berserker’s power since they moved it to grand master trait,
but i’ve recently tried incorporating it into an all out glasscannon axe build and it’s like playing as a blender, the last hit of triple chop does 4-6k lol (in pvp)
incase you’re interested http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-s77FwBFOKkO0o-ZL-60M4oL;1Y4kG;4T9;0T49A0;628B5Jk6N;1sV2DsV2D5Bs
hellishly fun for hotjoins and having fun, probably not for tournaments where its “meta or die.”
someone needs to make the biggest, fattest norn mesmer there is and spam illusions while naked :P
in order to heal for similar amounts as the signet you need to do around 35,000 damage over the next 6 seconds…
35,000 damage in 6 seconds. just think about that for a moment…
horrible horrible skill that had so much potential.
i agree its bad that you need to unlock them but if it helps you rest easy, the guardian heal is REALLY bad (even if you pile traits in to meditations it still isn’t worth using over other heals), for example you’d need to do around 35,000 damage over the 6 second duration to make it heal for similar amounts as the signet…
the mesmer heal is “ok” but there are still better options.
but still, i agree pvp should have all skills unlocked by default
i believe Anet’s spokeswoman Daenerys Targaryen already answered this.
“when the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. when the rivers run dry, and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves. then you shall have a new pvp mode.”
in gw2 if you want to one shot you really do have to trade all of your survival for it,
glasscannon is my playstyle, i love it and GW2 does it perfectly.
you roll a staff ele for example and you’ll be seeing 5k meteor showers, 4k lava fonts and 4k fireballs, all ticking in a large area all at the same time, it MELTS EVERYONE.
but to get this you’re also the squishiest guy in the match.
the thing gw2 has trouble with is balancing tank specs,
several bunker specs can dish out alot more damage than they really should be able too,
MMs for example can spec to be pretty darn tanky without having to actually use any skills, but also have a ton of CCs and high sustained damage,
warriors running adrenal health, healing signet and cleansing ire, paired with a source of regen (dogged march) also have access to higher damage than they should have access too.
i think wow was just baaaad for balance, i quit before mop but i used to play an epic geared blood DK with twice everyone elses health (in the bg) constant large self heals and topping the damage meter (by a long way) every single game, that is not how you balance an MMO…
glasscannons should be glasscannons,
bunkers should be bunkers,
hybrids should be in the middle.
its a cool idea, being able to wager gems, especially if spectators can do it too and just bet on which team/player they think will win, the only problem though, once real money gets involved everyone will just roll the cheesiest build they can find, the meta will become pvp as a whole.
also a way they can make soooooo much cash, i said this in another thread but they should put a big pot in the mists, and we can all collectively donate gems in to it, and once 100,000,000 gems have been put in it, they’ll remove skyhammer from the game.
they’d make so much cash and we’d finally get rid of that awful map.
(edited by Liewec.2896)
only meta i didn’t like was the old D/D ele meta, that was extremely annoying,
matches were full of guys rolling their face across the keyboard, they were nearly invincible, had huge damage and could instantly escape a fight with RTL.
not fun.
but yeah the 100b meta was pretty fun, also if you like the glasscannon style of old 100b you should try a double axe build, its hilarious, i’ve literally one shot people before with eviscerate, and the last hit of the auto attack does around 4-5k dmg lol XD
i feel your pain!
playing team q is too “elite” you get so much grief if you’re using a fun none meta spec.
playing hotjoins is fun but you don’t get enough rank points.
all is vain.
i just hit rank 40 afew weeks back from hot joins alone, and i’ve played on and off quite alot since launch, i’ll never ever see rank 50
I remember doing some random BGs on my mage one day. I had no teammates online at that moment and wow doesnt have soloqueues so i have to settle with whatever pvp is available. So i did some random BGs. A few minutes in a random guildie whispers me: “why are you doing random BGs, arent you fully geared allready?”
but the gear progression also meant it was fun to play the “hotjoin” pvp with ridiculously good gear,
i used to do it to feel godly, it was hellishly fun having a 100k health Blood DK during wotlk while everyone else in the BG was sitting around 50k (with 70k being the most i’d ever see on anyone else) hp,
topping damage meters while being unkillable and running the flags, godly fun. >:-3
No, it needn’t have a meta.
When entering a match, assign each player a random class with random weapon/s, random utilities, a random rune set and random traits.
No more meta.
lol could you imagine the QQ if that happened? ending up playing a pistol engi with soldier runes and no kits on your utility bar.
they should just add a giant pot to the mists, when 100,000,000 gems have been collectively placed in the pot, Skyhammer will be removed from the game.
they’ll make loads of cash!
i’ll personally put 10,000 gems in, the other 99,990,000 is up to you!
still wondering why you’re posting this, it’s like you’re declaring that you’re a proud kitten or something? XD
i just had this song playing in my head while i read it all lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrgpZ0fUixs
well you can always win games and buy mystic coffers, thats what i’ve been doing in hope of rare rewards, got some yummy stuff from it!
other than that the only thing you can grind towards is finishers every 10 ranks,
but thats not worth the time investment.
still mystic coffers are a nice little gambling hook keeping me playing atm
alot of the time you’ll get tournament rewards, but once in awhile you’ll get something really awesome like lava/frozen weapons
i don’t get the big deal with healing sig, sure its nice but its not “OMFG THATS SO AMAZING!”
1. you lose the ability to heal if your health gets low
(i don’t count the puny 3k active as a heal)
2. there are soooo many healing skills that out-heal healing sig, and most of them have secondary effects and can be traited for even more secondary effects.
again, it’s nice, but its not OP, the reason it gets this image is the combination that warriors can access (regen, heal sig, adrenal healing, + condi clears) that stacking is godly, but healing signet isn’t the problem.
my war really does “kitten the meta”
full signets, no lyssa (celestial for the crit%), axe/axe, (and sword/shield for escapes)
Deep Strike build so i never activate a signet, just nuke nuke nuke,
the last hit with triple chop always does around 4k lol,
12k eviserates are a common sight aswell as 10k whirling axes and 3k from dodging
(you can dodge while whirling too for around 15k dmg while evading)
also had a blast with a build that double wields maces, hitting 3-4ks with the last skill in auto chain aswell as every other skill on the bar (except the weak daze ofc)
lastly you guys making the lists of meta things he used left out endure pain and zerker stance, so we have pretty much everything except a hammer!
(edited by Liewec.2896)
half of the forum is moaning about conditions being too strong and you want to remove the counters?
i wouldn’t dare read the forums with the flurry of hate flung Anets way if they removed condi counters.
Kinda like… Playing Minion Master and getting Moa’d. Its not fun to hit a wall making you entirely useless.
i shed a tear of joy every time i see a MM get moa’d, it serves them right for using an AI build! this is pvP
(edited by Liewec.2896)
Power
Precision
Healing
lets make my zerker war even more of a tank XD
also an interesting one would be
precision
healing
crit damage
i miss the old GW1 healing sig, VERY short CD, VERY risky with more damage recieved while casting for 2 seconds, large heal if you get it off
funny thing is, just switching the system won’t change anything,
they need to remove suckhammer,
otherwise farmers will just grind the new currency just as they’ve done with glory.
ANET! remove skyhammer already nobody other than trolls and farmers want it, get rid of it! you don’t even need to admit you screwed up by putting everything we all hate on one map, just get rid of it!
The first ‘feature build’ as we’re calling it, won’t go live until the current Living World story arc wraps up. The next feature build will contain substantial PvP updates, the balance items we talked about on Friday, and hopefully even more things that we aren’t ready to talk about yet.
The scope of the balance changes going in is massive. Honestly, putting all of the changes we talked about on Friday straight into the game today would have been extremely kneejerk, and I’m sure many of you would agree that some of the changes needed additional eyes on them before they hit live. We want the time to go through the feedback and make adjustments, and we’re already doing that.
I’m sorry if we gave you the impression that there would be a balance update today – that was not our intent.
i’d love to see massive meta changing balancing each patch actually XD
it’d keep us on our toes, keep the game fresh and changing, it’d pretty much be like the old “flux” mechanic from gw :P
ofcourse these big balance changes would need to be pvp only or the pve’ers would moan that they aren’t the center of attention XD
TL;DR throw the changes in, lets have a riot of fun
GW2 pvp is GREAT !! Buttons are GREAT too!!!
yay buttons!
i agree that pvp should be higher up on Anet’s “care about” list (considering that the original GW was pretty much carried by its pvp for years, it was the pvp community that kept the game alive)
but its also not the pvp devs fault, they can only do what they’re allowed to,
and if the higher bosses say “nope, don’t care about pvp!” then thats that.
i’m sure the pvp devs get frustrated too when they’re told that their department has to take the back seat, or “be quiet and let the grownups talk”.
so you big bosses! (who just happen to be browsing through the pvp section of your forums) give the pvp devs more powa!
did they atleast fix the (no signet passives) bug each time you join a new game?
they said they’d do that for this patch but its not in the notes.
sick of having to reclick all of my signets each time i switch games! (each time the map rotation gets to *suck*hammer), not to mention accidentally clicking the signet sucks even more!
And what about taking control of skyhammer before match? Not important to fix that because the map only exists to frustrate players?
a fix that would please everyone…
remove skyhammer, delete it, smash the hard drive it was on in to tiny pieces, blend the pieces, burn the resulting powder, throw the resulting ash out of a plane into a volcano, then nuke the volcano.
^ Correct. Unload and Pistol Whip are good with Signet of Malice. Especially Pistol Whip, because it cleaves and can hit three enemies at once (and each hit is another proc of SoM).
EDIT: although Ricochet does help with Unload.
unload, ricochet and SoM is an amazing combo, been using it for afew weeks, it makes healing signet look bad
on the subject of healing venoms though, it’d be fun to see your health fly up using skelk venom, and leaching venoms + unload
some skill ideas:
an AoE ground targeted version of Entangle (obviously with toned down effect)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Entangle
an AoE ground targeted version of Healing Seed (but it’d summon a patch of flowers instead of a tree)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Seed_
Toxic Spores
you’d cast this on an area and it would summon several (destructable) small plants and for the next X seconds (maybe 10) they’d poison and weaken enemies, and then (when their time expires or all plants are destroyed) heal allies in that area for an amount depending on their lifespan/plants remaining, so if enemies kill them all the healing will be minimal, but if they’re left alone they could heal a nice amount (though not OP)
thieves still have options, you can become projectile immune with dagger storm,
you can use bow 3 to take leaps forward and also evade,
combine that with Roll for Initiative and Withdraw and you have some pretty good mobility tools combined with damage immunity.
you also have access to more blind fields than anyone else.
i’m not saying that thieves are the ultimate orb runners, i’m just saying that you have options if you want to orb run
i fear adding more modes would actually damage the game think about it, 1 new mode and you’ve split the playerbase in half, 2 new modes and you’re now at a third of the playerbase you had.
so queuing for a “capture the quag(gan)” might see only 20 people in the que at any one time except primetime.
gw2 pvp just doesn’t really have a large enough playerbase to split it with more filters
personally i love the Deceptive Evasion nerf, i hope they nerf clone spammers through the ground, i play pvp, i want to fight players not the AI they spam because they’re too useless to fight for themselves…
i write this after rage quitting from my last game against a team with 3 mesmers that did nothing but run away, stealth and spam AI.
AI needs removing from pvp entirely. PVP PLAYER VS PLAYER
has anyone wrote any bulletpoints of things from the ready up?
A lot of people in a lot of places, it’s seriously everywhere. 2 Threads on reddit, more than 3 in this forum.
ah, thanks, found one on page 2, didn’t think they’d get buried that fast!
has anyone wrote any bulletpoints of things from the ready up?
(25 skillpoints, fork over 40k glory for level tomes or go PvE for a full day!).
it took you a full day to run a couple of skill challenges? (they’re the ^ icons on the map)
firstly you could use a birthday experience thing to instantly get to lv20, then you only have a few more ^ things to do, and you can do them in the starting zones.
if you don’t have a birthday experience thing (not sure who doesn’t!) you could even just ask a high lv friend/guildy to run you through 25 of them, 30 mins – 1 hour and your done.
or if you have a high level char (most people have atleast 1) you could just do them yourself quick and easy, there are 202 skill challenges so you’re not exactly short on options!
though i agree we shouldn’t need to do this for everything new in pvp (just like all of the current things that don’t need unlocking in pve to use in pvp.
luckily most of the new heals are useless anyway so you don’t need to bother getting em :P
always volunteer, if your old team wins you get max points!
if your new team wins you get max points!
just don’t tell too many people so the rest of us can keep volunteering! XD
it used to be kinda risky to openly join the losing team, but then they changed it to give you incentive to switch
i don’t get the buzz about lyssa runes, mediocre stats (for none condi) builds all for a couple of seconds of boons?
i’d rather stick to divinity get 60+ to every stat and 12% crit damage bonus
i also hate asuras, pet spam, mindless aoe, SKYHAMMER etc
but all games have their grimes i guess
i can’t say an exact build, but ele, thief and egi are the 3 classes with the highest skill ceiling and have many build that are difficult to play but incredibly powerful when played right
not sure if that was just a spirit watch exploit but once on khylo i got team swapped right as i died and got instantly respawned but still spawned at my old teams base,
(i instantly jumped out so i didn’t get accused of hacking/cheating), but that might be what you saw on spiritwatch.
just let me log on my dervish healer, then we can talk RA!
MM, its literally summon minions then spam buttons with a staff equipt. that it.
PU mesmers atleast need to try and stay hidden, MM can just spec for vampiric minion and improved syphoning and become a tank with high damage and several CCs.
no matter what the game, I’ll never pay a subscription fee again,
its so 2004.
that’s why even if the new Elder Scrolls mmo is awesome i won’t play it just because subscription fees are archaic.
its the same reason i left wow, well subscription fees / pandas.
while there is no reason they can’t retroactively grant rank points for previous tournament wins there is also no reason why they should either,
just because they’ve added a new insentive to play tournaments it doesn’t mean we should get the new insentive for everything we’ve already done,
there was no reason to play tournaments if you were after rank points in the past,
now there is
so if people complain that they spent thousands of hours struggling through rank tournaments, i just have to ask, why?
i’ve had Frozen Staff, Gargoyle Scythe (staff), Lava axe, moon shield and Magmas Arm,
never ever ever got a rank token that isn’t paid/free tourny though
(edited by Liewec.2896)
Two words..
Vigil Leggings
getting tiger rank really opens up the doors for more outfits that aren’t a choice between jacket, jacket, jacket, jacket and jacket
lol friendly fire, could you imagine a mesmer’s phantasms mindlessly whirling through your group to attack one enemy?
or an allied ranger’s wolf howling sending your whole team (and you) fleeing?
or weapons that automatically arc to nearby targets hitting one enemy and 2 friends?
nope, friendly fire is a baaad idea.
ladies and gentlemen, i give you…BURST.
