I know there is a minor rifle boost planed, with bleeding shot (skill 4?) doing 20% more damage but that seems very small.
theres the problem, this is a huge buff for rifle warriors because Bleeding Shot is the autoattack! meaning each auto attack will actually do some damage now!
and also grant you 1 extra strike of adrenaline (if the enemy has vulnerability, which they pretty much should always have.)
so lets say you use Kill Shot when you have full adrenaline, that’ll take you to 10 strikes of adrenaline (assuming you have Burst Mastery ,which every rifle user should have tbh), it now only takes you 10 auto attacks to max out your adrenaline again.
i’d imagine with Furious and Signet of rage you will pretty much be able to fire max adrenaline killshots every time it comes off cooldown.
and for pvpers this will save us multiple relogs simply because we want to get the spam-spam-spam-glorious-spam chests to one of our 80s.
I used to have this problem until I realized you didn’t need to accept the chest on the character that earned it (except rank up chests for some reason)
thats true, but then they’ll constantly be flashing and shaking for your whole play session ;-P
too distracting for me personally!
The old philosophy of, “all professions can fill all roles if they spec into it” seems misplaced atm. [/quote]
what class cant support? what class can’t dps? what class can’t bunker?
i’ve played a mantra healer in pve, healing everyone around for 2,5k every 2.5 seconds while my phantasms grant regen and i remove conditions and put down reflective walls.
if you think outside of the box you can do some pretty great things!
It just doesn’t work like this in most scenarios! Most other PvPers or people you encounter in WvW can gap-close incredibly quickly, and a glass longbow Ranger vs someone up close is dead in an instant.
This is what people don’t understand
i’m rank 72, i think i know a little bit about pvp XD
you position yourself somewhere high up and difficult to get to, where if you start taking too much damage you can simply step back and be obstructed.
but from experience they are usually low on health by the time they get to land a single hit.
also keep checking the route up, and have wolf as a secondary pet so if the enemy makes it near you you can knockback/fear them off the edge
also ranger isn’t “my class” its just a fun build i like to play on occasion when i’m less focused on holding points but just wanting some dakka dakka fun
Harley – engi
that harley is great!
You can also require people to be at least 2 minutes (or some arbitrary number) in the PvP area to interact with the bank. By PvP area I mean any PvP map and Heart of the Mists. So if you just played a match you can access your bank, but if you came from the open world, you have to wait.
THIS^
for a pve’er it would be far more efficient to travel to a pve bank or load up wvw and use the banking station.
(“but wvw isn’t always available!” is not a real excuse, there is always atleast 1 wvw you can get in, usually home borderland)
and for pvpers this will save us multiple relogs simply because we want to get the spam-spam-spam-glorious-spam chests to one of our 80s.
plus anet you would probably end up selling more bank tabs.
The current longbow can wreck face and get 3-4k auto attacks and is borderline abusive with some clever positioning.
The new longbow is, quite frankly, scary.
this^
when i’m bored i’ll play a sniper in hotjoin, camp somewhere high where i can cover a capture point with my lovely 1500 range, i’ll then nuke down anyone that is brave/stupid enough to get within my range,
it hits like a truck, squishies are dead in 4-5 shots!
and now it’ll:
attack 10% faster, get access to signet effects like 150% damage on next attack, 25% increased damage for 8 seconds, and rapid fire will now be more busty and less sustain.
this is going to be lethal!
. Just because others are running around with the same skin(s), it doesn’t devalue yours.
Define “devalue” and from the various perspectives involved…..
It’s easy to type that but since the actual PRICE of the skin (wait…is that a “value”?) would obviously go down, the only REAL evidence either of us would possibly have does not support your claim. I don’t give a fig about being a unique snowflake in this game, but obviously other players seem to “value” it highly.
BTW, I don’t think I implied it WOULD be a bad thing, just that it would happen.
^this this this
there are currently only 8 on the trading post, the cheapest of these is 3000g
having one of these greatsaws is an instant magnet for attention, it is my ultimate favourite thing i own!
forget every legendary, go to any city and you’ll likely find 10 or more people swinging twilight around, but greatsaw being unobtainable means it has immense value, worthy of its epic skin!
look at games like wow, the corrupt ashbringer and t3 armour were removed years ago, seeing someone with unobtainable items from the early years is a big “woah!” and the items are priceless. (well not priceless, people would pay more than a car for them) this is the value of unobtainable items!
one time only rewards are about the best thing for MMOs to keep people playing!
in all serious i would expect another form of what we got this year,
a 24h booster (probably the exact same one)
an instant level X item (30?)
a mini something (perhaps pale tree)
though i’d really love random eternal tonics like gw1s 6th birthday!
You do realize you can put them in the bank and pull them out on your alt right? They are account bound not soulbound
completely defeating the point of getting the tools,
since you want unlimited tools so you don’t have to keep going to cities to buy more tools.
they should be made like the achievement unlocks where you can instantly claim them from the hero page.
theres nothing worse than having to log through 10 chars because you forgot which one has the “item that is supposed to make life easier”! and when you find “the item that is supposed to make life easier” you have to get to a city, stick it in the bank, relog, get to the city and take it out…
meanwhile if you didn’t spend your hard earned money on that item you could have just went to the nearest merchant and bought the item you need for a couple of copper/silver.
i like pretty much all of the changes except the warrior greatsword nerfs,
just because they’re making arcing slice do something useful they didn’t need to nerf everything else.
hilariously i made a comment about how hammer was still too viable as a zerker weapon since it hits far too hard for a CC weapon,
i also said that people wanting to do damage should use dps weapons.
and hammer didn’t get touched, but the main dps weapon got nerfed.
hammer nerfs? 0
longbow nerfs? 0
greatsword? nerfs to 3/5 skills.
i’m ecstatic!
i often play a p/p unload thief with ricochet and signet of malice,
so to see unload and ricochet both getting a buff is amazing!
plus the potential of a more useful invigoration precisions!
(i have already tried IP with the current unload/ricochet signet of malice, but 5% was just too low to sacrifice executioner for, i actually suggested yesterday that they make it 8%, weird coincidence or did they listen?!, i also said how i thought black powder would get a nerf, and lets face it, it needed one )
i’m just worried that more people will realise how strong (and ridiculously easy) p/p is!
(edited by Liewec.2896)
I get that the devs want balance and I do commend them on making a game that’s as balanced as it is.

dev quote:
“@ game modes vs. other features: We can do both.”
that is from last november…
don’t hold your breath folks
as someone who spent 1400g for it and has been brushing the poverty line since i would be kinda pee’d off if they rereleased it,
its like the season 1 living world stuff now being in the lorel vendor,
it just makes everything loose its value if you can obtain it easily later.
same thing happened with my karka back pack which we worked our butts off for thinking it has some prestige, now everyone has one.
everything should be one time only.
i would love more combat usable tonics like in gw1,
i made a dragon themed ele and ALWAYS used the kuunevang tonic
i even called them “jade dragon hatchling”
yep its been an issue since launch,
not only do asuras have the most difficult to read telegraphs (because literally everything looks like they’re having a flailing spaz attack) but also they can simply stand behind/inside other people or NPCs to become totally unreadable.
the one and only exception where height might be good is for mesmers who want to spam NPC clutter to stop the enemies from seeing who is casting what, but that impacts your allies aswell.
i’d also heard somewhere that taller characters get better camera options,
but as someone who plays a big-as-he-can-go norn warrior and a small-as-she-can-go asuran mesmer i honestly dont think this is true, and if it is, it is unnoticeable.
i think we should get racial skills in pvp again, asura racials are fairly “meh” when compared with sylvari/human root skills or norn bear spike, or warband/hounds of balthazaar.
since the whole reason racial skills were disabled was because they “didn’t want one race to have an advantage” well asuras have the greatest racial of all, being tiny!

conjure weapons can deal HUGE damage in water attunement,
but as you just said, you are very squishy.
imho you’ll find it difficult to maintain damage and survival using only water attunement.
i love it, it gives the weapon some illusion of weight!
i use greatsaw too, which must be like lifting a motorbike
i’m soley a pvper, i rarely pve except for living story once in 2 weeks.
i play my necro with a power setup focusing on huge crits, keeping deathshroud up as long as possible and causing lots of small life steal damage ticks.
i’ve gotta say its one of my favourite characters.
life blast hits like a truck and has 100% crit chance,
if i activate locust swarm, drop wells and hit deathshroud 5+4, everything dies
and while all of that is critting away i’m actually gaining life force instead of losing it, no matter how many of them are swinging away at me!
if the fight turned south i’d click my lovely lich form and spam everything to death with 7k+ crits.
again, i’d have to say my necro is one of my favourite characters, it feels godly sometimes.
but everyone else is dressed in proper fantasy attire!
you’ve gotta admit he looks way out of place!
as the title says! i believe there is a “time travelling hipster” in the pub!
check out this pic if you don’t believe me!
he’s wearing a baseball cap and hoodie with what looks like baggy black jeans!
anyone else noticed this guy casually enjoying his drink?
i think scruffy would end up donning the behind hat!
i totally agree with this,
there are parts of the ancestral set that would be worth buying it for,
there are parts of the assasin set that would be worth buying it for,
there are parts of every set that would be worth buying it for,
but i have only bought 3 sets because i don’t like them being a “onesie”
c’mon anet, split them up, it can’t be that hard and you’d make so much more money from people like us who just want one part!
screw slick and elegant!
<3 my Greatsaw! >:-3
oversized weapon, undersized armor, welcome to RPG mechanics!
As I explained above that simply isn’t true. Both of those traits will in all likelihood benefit the user. Furthermore, they aren’t almost useless grandmaster traits.
gotta be joking!
the description for Last refuge should pretty much read “get 4 seconds of the revealed debuff when your health hits 25%”
and you’re right its not a grand master trait, it is the very first trait so going in to that trait branch will always push the trait on you!
only things i really want to see for thief / warrior balance:
nerfs
warrior still has along way to go with making hammer a non-viable zerker weapon,
currently you can still spec into a defensive trait tree and use a CC weapon to 3 shot an ele…
choosing hammer should be a choice to sacrifice damage for CC, it should not be critting people for 4k, if people want to be doing huge crits then they should be using a dps weapon, not a CC weapon!
also cleansing ire with longbow should require a hit.
thief, the p/d condi spec that more and more people are using could use a tone down, it seems like they touch you twice and your health vanishes in 5 seconds.
plus it doesn’t rely on any cooldowns so its spammable,
we only have so many condi removal skills!
Buffs
warrior is pretty good across the board, i know people have been asking for an axe #5 buff for awhile now though, but i dont think it needs one.
also making traited warhorn convert 2 conditions instead of 1 would be a massive help to an underused weapon
thief could do with some changes, make Death Blossom a power attack (the rest of the skills are power attacks) and fix the weird “sometimes it does, some times it doesn’t” evade.
buff Invigorating Precision from 5% to 7 or 8%
retcon the nerf to C’n’D’s damage
a weird final suggestion, but “offhand light” dual skills could be made better than 2 weapon dual skills, this would give thieves an extra option of sacrificing the utility of something like blackpowder or C’n’d in exchange for more raw dakka.
hammer nerfs to stop it from being a viable zerker weapon in pvp.
i should not be able to spec into a defensive tree and use a CC weapon to spam people with huge crits!
people should be choosing to either use a CC weapon or a damage weapon,
not a CC weapon that can 3 shot an ele.
thats my only gripe with warrior.
as for thief, the pistol/dagger condi build is getting rather annoying now that more and more people are using it!
Hotjoin is going to be chaotic no matter what we do since people are free to leave at any time. For people who are wanting a more structured experience, why not play solo or team arena? I’m not asking this to sidestep your concerns, but rather to find out why there is a desire to force structure upon hotjoin when there is already a more structured game mode.
there is a huge difference between loose structure and the ability to switch to/join the winning team.
the suggestions i made further up the page would still keep the freedom of people joining and leaving but it would restrict the cause of these aweful one-sided landslide matches, which is team select and spectator allowing you to switch teams.
they did give you something like 3 months notice before hand, they even added vendors with better loot to spend your remaining glory on (which in my opinion was far more rewarding than the “reward” tracks)
they were very clear that glory was going!
while i did prefer the old glory system and think they should have made a “glory shop” as the new reward system they didn’t.
glory is gone, but you were given plenty of time and plenty of warning!
Lol cause 10 stacks of might when you are close to death with no defensive mechanics is really strong. I dont even understand why anet create traits which encourage playing badly. Doesnt make sense.
close to death?
with a full bar of deathshroud and spamming 6k life blasts,
we’ll see who is close to death
initial things to change
remove team select, upon joining the game sorts teams out as evenly as possible using rank.
change spectator to allow the person 20 seconds to rejoin the team they left before not letting them rejoin and the game treats it as if they’ve left the match (auto balance, allowing people to join etc).
joining while the match is underway
if teams are even and someone joins, that person gets put on the team with the lesser score.
if teams are uneven and someone joins, that person gets put on the team with the least players.
if both team and score are even (i.e a 4v4 before any points are capped near the start) the game puts them on the team with the least total rank.
i’m fairly confident that this would make games far more balanced and enjoyable!
one last suggestion for auto balance, if noone offers to switch then the game could switch the highest ranking person from the winning team, as they are most likely to be the one who can bring the losing team back in to the competition (and also were probably carrying the winning team).
You say siphoned power is useless now but that skill will be a bane for any engineer that is about to switch over to flamethrower.
this^
10 stacks of might in 2,5 seconds
plus mesmer clones trigger it alot, especially greatsword clones which will hit for pitiful amounts but grant you 3 stacks of might.
there are far worse traits!
As well-intentioned as this post is, it’ll probably just draw a lot of QQ’ers to whine about how GW2 has the worst possible PvP that any game could ever witness, without any explanation how or why.
or people could explain how and why.
such as only 1 game mode on 6 maps.
one of these maps has such negative feedback but the devs still wont remove it.
lack of balance, lack of reward, lack of dev support and communication,
suggestions go ignored, lack of hope for future content.
but for me the worst thing is that the combat system is so good,
there is so much potential and its being squandered.
it makes it impossible to migrate to a game with devs who care for pvp.
so until an MMO comes out with a combat system as good/better than this one we are stuck with the decision between an amazing and fluid combat system but aweful pvp, or clunky out-dated combat systems with devs that actually care.
also note i’ve been a pvper in pretty much every MMO this century.
WAR, AoC , WoW since vanilla (quit just before panda-lameness), CO, SWTOR, GW1, Aion, Tera
some were great, some were ok, some were pretty bad, but none of them feel so neglected and so pointless as GW2, with all of its potential.
the tragic thing is, of all the MMOs i’ve played GW1 was probably the best pvp,
what happened to anet?!
(edited by Liewec.2896)
that depends, does this tutorial contain how to never get failhammer in our queue again?
if so SIGN ME UP!
this is not about rewards, this is about the ability to join the winning team.
creating pointless landslide games every single match.
this is a serious issue and any respectable company would solve this by next patch,
(which we speculate is in a month or 2, giving them plenty of time.)
if it is not resolved, then i will consider Anet utterly incompetent and look for a better MMO.
though honestly i hope this is not the case,
because i really want to enjoy spvp like it was before they ruined it…
(back when it was 8v8 and auto balanced with no spectator)
honestly if there aren’t changes to spvp team select and spectator team select i will be extremely disappointed Anet,
this has been an issue since last year when you decided it’d be fun to add it (or one of your pets jumped on the keyboard? i can’t think of a reason why you would actually add this besides trolling/ accident…)
this better change in the very next patch, if not i will lose all faith in you…
suggestions:
automatically arrange the teams based on rank,
if someone enters spectator they can only join the team they were on, and only for a 20 second window before a replacement is bought in.
NO MORE TEAM SELECT!
NO MORE SPECTATOR CAMPING!
Honestly hotjoin feels way more fun and competetive than soloq these days. You enter soloq you can expect the majority of players to follow meta. It becomes really boring with time. In hotjoin however I’ve seen people using all kind of builds.
this is one of the main reasons i prefer hotjoin to tournaments, there will always be afew meta clones, but people can get far more creative.
i play stoneheart conjure ele (which i dub the melee-ele)
i play axezerker/greatsword zerker wars
i play sniper ranger, or traps+longbow hybrid which works surprisingly well!
i play bombzerker engineer
i even play a frosty themed hammer guardian from time to time XD
its so much more fun than waiting in a 10 minute queue to be just another meta clone in a 5v5 of clones.
i was looking at the air filtration device on my norn today and realized that you could make a pretty awesome TDKR Bane
also i’ve made Eir Stegalkin :-3
and this lovely little lady called “Booker C A T C H”
guardian healing? cute.
i play a warrior shout bunker in pvp,
we enjoy 409 hp every second, plus 167 hps from adrenal healing when you don’t need the condi removal of cleansing ire. (which honestly isn’t very often with a shout warrior, due to shouts removing conditions.)
thats 576 hps without needing to click or activate anything.
thats 34k passive regen a minute without even mentioning the shouts…
now the shouts,
upon using all of my shouts i heal all allies within 600 of me for 9,316 and remove 6 conditions.
used back to back my shouts grant 446.35 HPS (26,781 health a minute)
and remove 17 conditions per minute.
yes…17 condi removals and 27k health to all allies within 600, every minute.
so my personal healing is 1022.35 HPS (61,341 health per minute.)
it takes a bizarre amount of poison spam to take me down,
i even run both generosity and purity runes, since poison is the only danger.
without poison just save your time and go elsewhere
edit: i also should have mentioned that i use Settler’s Amulet giving me 3,5k toughness,
and plenty of condi damage, i primarily use s/s for both the block and damage,
i usually deal around 2k-2.5k dps, which eats through most people fairly quickly.
(edited by Liewec.2896)
delete ranger
add warden and marksman!
marksman is what you’d expect, the most similar to the current ranger focusing on damage with their pet and traps, they’d get the more physical skills of the ranger.
i won’t really go into marksman, because you probably get the idea
the warden gets the spirits and nature based skills of the ranger and would use scepter/focus staff type weapons with a very “natury” vibe.
they’d summon up healing springs and protective vine walls to aid their allies
and explosive seed pods and rooting vines to hinder the enemy.
they’d play very much like a shaman/witch doctor/druid role,
mostly support but with viable condi damage builds.
also note that originally ranger was going to be split into several professions,
with warden and marksman being 2 of them and a 3rd being beastmaster
you pretty much summed up warrior
no skill requirement, practically plays it’s self.
i dunno, as a power necro specced for turning Life Blast into a nuke in deathshroud it can be really strong.
lets say you get hit every second, you will cap out at 5 stacks, thats an extra 175 power while under 25%, against 2 people that would be 350 power and against 3 that’s 525.
its basically a last ditch effort trait.
if it didn’t work with deathshround then i agree, it’d be aweful, but i can last just as long or longer than my actual health in deathshroud and utilize the large damage boost.
note i didn’t even take strength/pirate runes in to account which would make the might last 7.25.
(i usually use scholar/pack runes)
As for the rewards, I think they’re decent. You get your rank points, your achievement points, your chests, exotic weapons and armor that you can pick, exp tomes and transmutations.
I can play 5 soloq games, that takes, say, hour to an hour and a half depending on queues and whatever, and get a CoE(or whatever) weapon, or I can run 3 CoE paths to get 180 tokens, which I can only buy offhands with, in around the same time in a PUG. Plus you get tokens from the reward track as well.
rank points, these only have value until you hit 80,
achievement points, far easier to get in pve for kills, recycling and more like veteran kills and gathering.
chests, the chests usually contain useless junk, a blue or green and a junk item, you could get these “rewards” from killing a mob in 5 seconds in pve.
choice of exotic weapon/armour, the stat combos are usually horrible, it’d be better to run afew dungeons to get the gold you need to buy exotics with useful stat combos off the trading post.
but this is all my preference, any char i want to use in pve is already 80 with an exotic set, and i unlocked all of the skins i wanted back when we could easily get skins in pvp. i’m not far from hitting rank 80 so the only real reward to aim for would be ascended/legendary gear (the goal of everyone in pve), but trying to get ascended/legendary gear in pvp is borderline insanity.
now if they added more pvp unique skins, or reward tracks that have some purpose (a long ascended track for example) we’d have something to aim for,
right now its just chests filled with junk and a single exotic with bad stats at the end.
