This elitist mentality is what bothers me most about this game. Seriously, if you have fun playing a certain class, with a certain weapon, then go for it. If synergy is soooo important to you elitist dungeon runners, whey the hell are you running with pugs in the first place. I paid just as much for this game as anyone else, and I’ll be sure to bring whatever the hell weapon I want.

Synergy is important because we want to avoid wipes while running. We don’t hate all pugs, we just hate the stupid ones who can’t read LFG descriptions and come in anyway expecting to be carried through the whole run. Sometimes they can get away with it, but with things like fractals the whole team can suffer because that useless bearbow was pew pew-ing at 1200 range while you’re stacked up, or that PVT tank guardian that does next to no damage is griefing you with his light fields.

Everyone else has told you – pugs can play however the hell they want, and we have the right to write our LFG posts the way we do, and force people to respect them by kicking. We pug because sometimes we need to, but don’t expect us to compromise on quality just to get a slot filled.

Since the Fractured patch, fractal tiers now work this way:
1-10 = reward tier 1
11-20 = reward tier 2
41-50 = reward tier 5
Agony tiers however remain the same:
1-9 = no agony
10-19 = 10 AR
20-29 = 25 AR
30-39 = 40 AR
and so on…

I think that clears it up.

All dungeons can be run in any gear, but the difference is in speed and efficiency. These two things can come together, berserkers are squishy but if they’re handled by skilled players, they can become (nearly) untouchable forces of destruction. Skill, gear choice, traits and the ability to synergise with your team are important factors in determining the speed of the run and how often you go down. Personally I’d advise you to go with berserker gear, but if you find that uncomfortable, knights is a valid option until you learn to handle your class properly.

Oh, and if you need someone to teach you dungeons, I highly recommend looking in this thread.

Dungeoneering Guilds?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lindbur.2537

Lindbur.2537

What I found was that there are a great many pugs who run zerk gear and something close to a meta spec, but who aren’t in dungeon guilds. Instead, they’re in PvP or WvW or RP or casual PvX guilds. Some of them liked their current guilds and just wanted to be part of a group with other zerk meta players for dungeons, then go back to PvP/WvW with their current guilds.

Sounds like me, I like my guildies, but they’re more laid back when it comes to dungeon runs whereas I prefer efficiency. I have plans for where I want to go in the long run, but the lack of any stable dungeon team means I cannot put those plans into action. I don’t like to pug, and consequently I tend to wait for people I know to ask me for daily tours… which doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. What I want is a team that I can synergise and coordinate with, I cannot easily achieve synergy with pug groups, and I find that unless I command a certain level of respect I am unable to coordinate the entire team.

Sorry that came out longer than it should, but I think I could sign up for this. :D

If speedclearing is your thing, or you just enjoy faster dungeon runs, I strongly recommend the guide I linked for you. It’s written by Nike of DnT, and although old, it’s still relevant to this day. I’ll sum it up quickly for you.

Traits: 30/25/0/0/15
Strength V, IX and XI
Arms V and X
Discipline VI

Gear setup:
Full berserker armor slotted with scholar runes, or ruby orbs if you’re hard up
Ideally ascended berserker trinkets, but exotics will make a good substitute
At least an axe, mace and greatsword, all berserker (I recommend you carry an entire kitten nal so you can use the weapon most suited for the situation)

Skill bar:
Healing Signet (allows you to resist condition damage) / Healing Surge (impressive heal at max adrenaline, close to 10k)
“For Great Justice!” (self-explanatory)
Banner of Strength (can swap out for Signet of Might if soloing)
Banner of Discipline (can swap out for Signet of Fury if soloing)
Signet of Rage / Battle Standard (both provide the same boons, but Battle Standard lasts for a full minute and has 3x the recharge of untraited signet in exchange for pulsing its boons to your allies, also revives when first summoned)

Did I miss anything? Hope not. With regards to surviving, you will be relying on your ability to read attack “tells” and dodging the attacks. As a warrior, you have a large health pool, but given this setup you are unable to clear conditions from yourself unless you take Mending as your heal or slot Signet of Stamina. Contrast this with the guardian, who has the lowest health pool but has access to a great number of blocks and blinds, along with vigor on crits. Suffice to say that a warrior is more forgiving if you take a hit from bosses as long as you immediately act to mitigate the consequences, whereas with a guardian you are at high risk of getting downed if you time a block/evade/blind wrongly.

If you’re interested in playing a guardian as well, I may be able to assist you.

It would be fine if there was a properly specced LH ele, but the chance of getting one outside CoE is rather low.

Stun beams are too high tech, let’s go with old fashioned collapsing ceilings where you need to skip trash!

On a more serious note, this would make a good boss fractal, but as it is right now it relies far too heavily on zerg mechanics and less on individual skill. This would require a heavy rework to make it actually playable in 5 man instances. You could keep the champions, and keep the gimmicks, but just lower their health, damage and armor so we have a fighting chance. I haven’t even counted fractal level scaling. As for opening the portals, uh… I’ll have to think about that one.

Warrior Axe/Warhorn Solo build

Lindbur.2537

Before I forget, I recommend you acquire a mace for your offhand slot – it’s definitely more practical if you want to beat up something, warhorn in fights promotes a more defensive playstyle. Offhand mace grants you Crushing Blow, which applies 4 stacks of vulnerability, and Tremor, which causes you to slam the ground and create a shockwave that knocks down enemies along its path. The slam and shockwave are separate hits, so if your target is in melee range, Tremor will hit twice.

For exploration I used GS and sword+wh for mobility, with SoR also you can nearly perma swiftness. When fighting mobs though, plan to switch out to another wep set like axe mainhand or bow for a ranged weapon. Also, axe offhand is terrible and you should never have reason to use it. By chaining FGJ and elite u achieve perma fury anyway.

Torch isn’t terribad, but it isn’t optimal either, and Virtue of Justice spam can easily keep burning up without a torch anyway. A focus is better because it gives you a bouncing blind that also clears a condition from allies it hits, and a shield that activates instantly and thus doesn’t interrupt your routines that blocks 3 hits. If the Shield of Wrath fails to block 3 hits it explodes for a huge burst, higher than what Zealot’s Flame can do.

I’ll just answer your questions quickly:
1. Yes, anything held in the account vault and wallet will go with you regardless of server.
2. Don’t leave Blackgate. If you regret your decision, it’ll be very difficult to get back in (and it’ll cost you 1800 gems if you have any characters).
3. Group play wise, necros don’t fare as well as other classes because they bring very little support to the team. They can however hold their own with ease in any solo situation, and even if outnumbered they can easily withstand several hits.
4 and 5. Warriors are practically ArenaNet’s pet class, so you won’t go wrong with one. They can easily take on groups and veterans (or even both at once), but anything champion and up and you’ll have to begin playing off your own skill (though this is the case for the other classes too)
6. I can’t say for PvP, I don’t do it.

So if you want to play a warrior, go ahead! There’s no barrier to entry at all.

[WvW&PvE] Magi Guard - Meditations DPS/Heal

in Guardian

Posted by: Lindbur.2537

Lindbur.2537

Meditations are inherently selfish, because they only benefit yourself (with the exception of Merciful Intervention, and even there the recharge is too long to justify the subpar heal, coupled with the fact that you can’t choose who you teleport to) and even when traited, do not provide any form of support to your team. In this game, support is not all about healing. Building to heal is probably the worst possible thing you could do, since the shorter the encounters are, the less likely you are to die, and because healing builds sacrifice so much offensive power (Magi is the absolute worst choice, even Clerics’ does better by a long shot) for a stat that scales so poorly, you will inevitably lose out. By dropping offense you are increasing the time your team takes to kill stuff, which as I noted increases your chances of making a mistake and wiping as a result. A guardian is all about taking the fight to a foe and beating up anything that threatens your allies, not about standing back and healing people – those are healers, not guardians.

When playing in a group, I absolutely urge you to drop the meditations and run consecrations, because those actually do something for your teammates and have longer lasting effects. In situations where you don’t need Wall of Reflection you should always carry Purging Flames – that’s easily the consecration that works almost anywhere unlike the others because it clears 3 conditions from allies in its radius, generates a fire field and reduces incoming condition duration by 33% while in the field, and with the Master of Consecrations trait it lasts 6 seconds amd recharges in 28. What’s not to like?

If you want to play PvE in that gear, you can, but I absolutely guarantee you that you will struggle to handle mobs, and in the time it takes you to kill 1, a berserker will have already killed 7 or more. You’re running absolutely subpar gear, and I’d rather take a healway guard running AH over that anytime.

TL;DR: Magi gear with meditations sucks, go berserker with shouts and consecrations.

Also, I’d guess that you can only fight against guilds in servers that don’t share the same colour as your server, but being able to fight against a server not in your matchup is already a big bonus. As for small servers, I don’t know, I guess that boils down to whether you can end up in the same map as the guild you want to fight.
