Feedback: World bosses these days

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

World Bosses have been my favourite pastime before megaservers – they were challenging and fun when not many people were in, and you could track them and jump from one to another and feel like a small hero routinely saving the world.

Currently, I rarely do them at all – maybe sometimes Svanir Shaman, Ulgoth, or Caledon Wurm; everything else upscales to a boring lagging annoying experience I don’t want to see. Tequatl is another story, though – but my guild likes doing it on a daily basis.

Anyone else missing LS1 ?

I never really liked Personal Story (and still don’t have it finished), but I find the Story Journal instances okayish (for a single run, though – not more).

I miss the epic feeling a lot of events from LS1 brought. Escape from LA was really immersive for me, the Marionette was a boss to remember, and the final Holo fight along with the Battle on the Breachmaker music was just what I wanted from grand finale.

What I do not miss, though, is mindless zerging, counter-productive gameplay design (heirloom runs vs. saved citizens), and upleveled 111-spammers who obviously couldn’t read a thing at Marionette – so, those things which made my personal progress rely on “play-how-I-wants”.

According to the announcements, we’ll be getting some nice upgrades to the crafting system. Doesn’t look like we’re getting “favourites” list in crafting, though, so here’re another small suggestions:

  • [x] button in the search field to clear current search. Very often I focus on using mouse while crafting, and switching to keyboard to remove the search query which persists there is a bit annoying.
  • Clearing search field on leaving crafting stations, including switching to other crafting stations and switching characters.

to reiterate

what they should do:

  • Item hunter type (select your drop type)
    • mesmer
    • guardian
    • warrior
    • theif
    • necromancer
    • ranger
    • engineer
    • elementalist
    • your current crafting discipline

default would be your current class.
having the option would basically allow people to have a greater effect on supply, which would itself help balance many out of balance markets, with a more adaptive supply. WITHOUT making people play or not play certain classes.

its an all around win

A crafted amulet/infusion which magically redefines your loot drops would make sense.

Alright so the new meta class is Mesmer

That way you get the two most valuable items (greatswords and cloths)

anyone know a mesmer farming guide? ;3

I switched from my mesmer to a guardian not so long ago and never regretted, and your farming guide was of good help

Sarcasm aside, the new AoE mantras may help with getting more loot a bit, but I doubt that it would make mesmer farming less painful and more profitable as untargeted staff spam will still generate more valuable loot.

I have large concerns regarding not crafting mats, but rare items themselves.

I am afraid that may lead to large imbalances of supply of specific items in the long run, as well as to discrimination across classes, both real and psychological – which would lead to a lot of frustration while playing and knowing that you’re playing the wrong class.

For example, how should necromancers, thieves, engineers and elementalists feel about never getting the expensive Dusk or Dawn and getting some trash precursor instead? Or how should I feel if, say, I’m using my guardian to farm for a dagger precursor for my ele?

Simple (or not) Dungeon Owner fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

What are you talking about? On more than one occasion I’ve spent time creating a party only to have someone ELSE walk into the dungeon – thereby him being the dungeon owner, NOT ME. You don’t even know what you’re complaining about from forum post to forum post.

Then walk into the dungeon before LFGing. FTFY.

And no, lol, just because you started a party doesn’t mean you get supreme control over everything. That’s not how life works. I’m just glad you aren’t in charge of any decision making at ArenaNet.

This is not for you to decide. It is up to ANet, and we have yet to see the real implementation of the feature once it has been life-tested and proven abusable.

u dont come into my house and tell me how to do things, you dont come into my party and tell me how to do things! if i lead the party you play by my rules

I have zero sympathy for this attitude. PuGging is a convenience, not a right. If you want to ensure that your group experience is to your tastes, start cultivating a friend’s list of like-minded players and group only with them.

And I have zero sympathy to PUGs which don’t read party descriptions, join, want us to carry them and then kick us and get the reward simply because they can. I have a right to make a party, and if I make it, I have a right to gather people I want in it and to stay in it. Likewise, they have a right to make their party and gather their players instead of kicking me once I’ve done my work.

All I can see happening if nothing is changed in the decision is soloers who’ve seen challenge in using their skill leaving the game, guild people ignoring them when a full guild party cannot be formed, guildless people leaving dungeons, and dungeon PUGs becoming a swarm of barking dogs which rarely finishes dungeons and rages on forums regularly.

There are a lot of permissions I’d like to see split. for example:

Activate Build Items: I want all my members to be able to activate Banners (as they are a throw away item anyway), but I don’t really like the fact that they can also activate “Guild Karma Boost” for example.
Create a split for these things so we can better organise what Our members can do without being trolled by someone.

Agreed. Makes perfect sense.

Geeze a lot of these QoLs can be solved by either in-game UI customization just like in GW1 or UI Customization through AddOn. ArenaNet obviously needs help in this department and I’m surprise why they have not made this available as an AddOn.

I doubt Add-ons is something ANet wants to see in this game, both from monetary and gameplay points of view.

+1 More.
Remove that bug that sometimes causes people to get stuck in giant chests like the Karka/Tequatl chest, amongst others (Especially humiliating when playing an Asura).

Why “especially humiliating”? Still, it’s more of a bug than a feature. Have you reported it in the Bugs section?

Dungeon Instance Owner change FTW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

A supposedly easy band-aid fix:

  • Dungeon owner cannot be kicked. I.e. has an “instance owner” buff icon or has no “Kick from party” option or that option shows an error alert. “Instance owner” will exist in the database anyway because you need someone to show in the cutscenes.
  • If the dungeon owner leaves, instance is preserved as the patch suggests. Whether the new “person for cutscenes” is kickable or not is another matter and can be addressed later on.

Meanwhile I will be cautious of doing any dungeons with PUGs after this change goes live, even though this is a good change per se.

The easiest way is to present the ‘cutscene owner’ regardless of whether the cutscene owner is in the instance or not. All the game needs to retain is the character model and the name of the player after all.

So while the instance owner cannot be kicked, if he leaves on his own accord his face persists in the instance until the dungeon is completed. Frankly, it’s not like anyone cares whose face is in the cutscene for most of these runs, and it’s a hell lot easier than dynamically changing it based on who is still in the party.

This is not the “easiest” fix – it would require caching the character in some place on ANet’s servers. A “link” can’t be used because anything can happen to that character meanwhile – like switching armour, using restyle kit, or even deleting the character; and even with a link, extra information has to be stored online for no particular reason. All this requires extra coding instead of loading a model which already exists in the instance.

Plus, it makes zero sense from the logical point of view.

On the other hand, the “vote kick” function already exists in the game; stitching in an “if-else” statement which would check a variable and either execute the code or throw an error looks far more plausible.

Transferable ‘Party Leader’ status

  • Player who opened dungeon has a ‘Party Leader’ icon next to their names in party list.
  • If Party Leader is vote kicked instance will close.
  • If Party Leader uses /leave, switches character or goes offline, the Leader status is transferred to another member.

I disagree. Instance owner, the one who opened the dungeon and gathered a group of individuals according to his preferences, should be protected from kicking at all, instead of being punished by grievers, trolls and same-guild noobs. This is especially important for dungeon soloers, which is officially legal if no exploits were used.

I have no problems skipping mobs as both mesmer and guardian (don’t really play other classes at the moment). I don’t even use stealth on my mesmer in open world, really. As for guardian, I can successfully skip all the way from Vine Bridge waypoint to Skritt Queen in lvl 80 Dry Top even past the Legendary Sand Giant with his large AoE and all the AoE-attack mites without getting in combat by using appropriate weapon and utility skills and dodging.

So, I don’t know… L2Skip issue?

This is absolutely not true for those of us who make lots of legendaries (I’ve made 6) and make lots of ascended gear (3 full sets of armor, about 12-14 weapons) and spend all of our time in dungeons and very little to none in wvw/EoTM/open world events . The only regular karma I make is that little piddly amount you get from your daily chest.

Every little drop of karma matters then quite a bit.

I doubt that 24/7 dungeon grinding for 6+ legendaries and full ascended is what describes a generic player asking about MF infusions.

I am sorry but you’re wrong, Try spending all your karma then go after a legendary and see how long it takes you “just playing the game” to get you the needed 525k karma. You will have to farm it like crazy.

If your company gives you 40 lunch vouchers per month but you sell them to a friend for some quick cash, that’s not your company’s fault that you start starving at work.

There’s next to no reason to spend karma apart from some skins and obsi shards, especially since the removal of transmutation stones. The “try spending all your karma” was where you’ve done it wrong

with karma you can make most profit in this game^^

You can make most profit in this game by playing the TP.

You can farm most gold by farming gold. 20 minutes of farming sandstorm events give you tons of T6, T5 and lodestones (charged included), plus geodes for clay pots.

Skillpoints are 2g each when converted properly.

Why do some people even conform to what he says?

Being connected to a famous name feels good.

Personally, even as a (former) mesmer main, I couldn’t vote for him in the recent polls because of the “I’m so cool, I carry everyone” attitude. In my view, such attitude instantly puts a person’s strong point of view under question – whether it is a real thoughtful analysis or a method of drawing attention, regardless of the actual experience.

As for the video, can’t watch because the channel says “This channel had been closed. The community has closed this channel due to terms of service violations.” I’d say that says something, too.

Its to hard.. they cant fix Rush for warrior also (like most terrain skills, they also dont remake it like they do for mesmers now)

It just waaay to hard for them to fix the skill so better give it an instant in your face type of skill so it always works..

Its funny that people think 1v1’s don’t occur often in competitive pvp.

1v1s occur often in competitive soccer. Does it mean everything should be balanced around 1v1 in soccer?

game may not be balanced around 1v1 but they didn’t buff it effectively for anything other then 1v1.

They buffed a specific weapon which fits a specific playstyle. That’s more of increasing build diversity within a specific playstyle rather than buffing a specific playstyle. As for increasing playstyle diversity, I agree more things could’ve been done; but at least AoE mantras and phantasm distortion did something for WvW zerging, as well as Mind Stab buff that added just a bit more of AoE which we lack and which could be used to solve our tagging problems.

They should buff things that make the game more enjoyable.

Like what? Healing signet? Cleansing ire? Larger distance finishers for warriors?

Ironically, all the buffs mesmer got were things that would make mesmer’s life a bit more enjoyable. We suffered from lack of AoE, from iLeap pathing issues, from lackluster Scepter, from iWarden bugs, from illusions (our class mechanic) dying instantly in zergs, from Elasticity not applying to illusions. These things will are planned to be partially fixed.

Because ANet has statistics that say it isn’t OP.

  • PU has the highest impact on inexperienced players who do not know the class. For these players, there are several options:
    • Learn how to counter it. PU mesmers fail against high skill play.
    • Learn to run away. There’s a reason why so many classes have speed buffs and superior mobility, while mesmer has one failing blink, one failing swiftness, and no speed signet. On “But I can’t run away from a point!”, see further.
  • PU is counterproductive in serious Conquest PvP. You can’t cap points and make your team win; all you can do is annoy people in Hotjoin – which is the most vocal source of QQ, as it is the part of the community which has a strong psychological urge to pwn others and derive enjoyment from it, but no maturity to evolve into real e-sportsmen who focus on teamwork and efficiency.
  • ANet informed us that they felt Scepter was underperforming. It means they dug up their statistics on weapon weapon/skill usage and saw it was underperforming.
    • “Torment on auto-attack is too much!”. It’s like all we do is sit on one auto-attack and never swap weapons. Right? Previously, Scepter AA felt like “sigh, I wish I could swap to another weapon already…”.
    • “Torment on clones is too much!”. It’s like clones are phantasms, have infinite health, and aren’t disposed off after they do an auto-attack or two by being killed or overwritten. Right?
    • In WvW roaming, you have enough space to kite away from clones and their projectiles.
    • In PvP, as stated above, PU has very little synergy with it. If you do set up your tormenting clones (and nothing more) on a point and go stealth , you’re losing your point. It doesn’t matter much if you kill someone in the process, apart from annoying that guy.
    • Captain Obvious reminds you: you can’t use more than two weapon sets. It means that people have to sacrifice other functionality to slot in the Oh-so-OP! scepter.
  • 1v1 is not an official game mode, and as such, the game should not be balanced around it.
    • In any game, some classes will inevitably be better at dueling and suck at team fights. Mesmers have enough roles removed from them already and their class-defining features passed to others (Perplexity rune anyone?) or removed (GW1), limiting them to being a Portal/Veil bot.
    • If you want to duel and kill people (or not be killed) in a team game mode, that’s your own problem, not ANet’s; it’s like playing Tetris and saying “I want to build the highest tower, but the game ends too soon!”. A game mode such as Conquest is based on tactics and class synergy; if you replace it with “I don’t want this PU mesmer to kill me!”, you’re doing it wrong.
    • If you don’t want to see roaming mesmers in WvW, than you can as well say “I don’t want to see mesmers in this game at all!”. There should be some roles for a mesmer apart from being a veil bot, right? I doubt that recent AoE mantra changes and Triumphant Distortion change will do much of a difference. As for PvE, there’s little point in bringing your mesmer there anyway. So?..

Honestly, despite the fact that changes are positive, I’m rather disappointed that mesmer is still treated like a dueling profession. I mean, the whole dev’s profession balance SWOT analysis thread showed us that we’re supposed to be playing vs. people, but I hoped for some adjustments in the direction of class equality idea.

Yes, WvW/PvP got a bit of love (and part of this love will get overnerfed because of the QQ). But even with the Mind Stab and mantra AoE changes, I don’t see much reason to bring mesmer to the largest part of the game – PvE – on a daily basis over guardian or ele.

Mesmer was strong enough in 1v1 already.

1v1 is not an official game type.

As for the official 5v5, mesmer is not the most desired class in top tier.

  • TD applies Distortion to Phantasms, not clones.
  • For Mimic, it looks like previous functionality got removed.

All of us! Abandoned! You aren’t real. You can’t be here.

Nice to see a red post here. I’ve unmained my mesmer already until all the annoying bugs get fixed and iLeap, iWarden and Temporal Curtain get some love; really hope to see things move.

Yes that is what I thought. You are somehow thinking that games should be the same as real world is, a chore, or a job, having to do something you do not like just to be able to enjoy the rewards afterwards.

Games should not work like that. Same rules do not have to apply to games. Those old sayings are nice, but they are ment for the real world.

There are different games in this world.

  • Some work like pure enjoyment machines. You push a button, it shows you a cool picture, you enjoy it. You push another button… and another… and close your browser tab because you feel no commitment and are no longer interested. You switch to another game, which is absolutely identical to the first one, but shows you different pictures. And again. And again.
  • Some games work like real life. You push a lot of buttons, and if you pushed all of them right, you get a large printed picture which you wanted to get when you saw it in the preview. If you push wrong buttons, you do not get it, or get a different one. If you want to get the picture, you have to push these buttons; and when you’re done after many tries, you become happy because you’ve overcome the difficulty. You look at other people, admire their well earned pictures; you show yours – they admire yours. You find one more picture you like and do it again. And again. And again.

I don’t like the first type of games because I think they’re a waste of time. I don’t play them, but I believe you like that kind of stuff. That’s your right and your choice.

I like the second type of games. Only overcoming difficulties with my skills make me enjoy my reward, because then they have value for me. Apparently, that’s not you definition of enjoyment; that’s your right and your choice. However, ANet designed GW2 this way and keeps designing it that way – so you either accept it or leave the reward (or the whole game).

And there’s a reason why ANet did it: games which require zero effort can only have a very short lifetime because of lack of commitment and long-term goals. For a Buy To Play game like GW2, no loyal veterans means death.

In a game that sledge ride is the reward. Sledge is always magically up there, just waiting for you to ride it. You have to only get yourself up there to enjoy the ride.

-South side of the hill can be a tricky way designed for a small group to do.
-West side of the mountain can be filled with huge masses of obstacles ment for the blobs.
-North side of the hill can be full of enemy players.
-Inside the mountain can be a tunnel that is insanely tricky jumping puzzle.

All routes lead to the top and to the sledge ride. All require you to do something, but you can choose which one to take.

Such casual games can exist, but they have several limitations:

  • Many players leave because they get bored too fast after riding all the slopes several times. When the game runs out of new players, it dies and is replaced by the same product in a different wrapping.
  • The game cannot grow by altering game modes and giving rewards for more difficult content, like a special sledge which you get for climbing the mountain yourself and not by magic. Because as soon as it does, it stops being casual and threads exactly like this one appear on the forum.

Furthermore, even in your game you cannot get an “Enemy Killer” special sledge for riding the three sledges without enemies because you despise the sledge with enemies. And if you want to get it nonetheless, I should ask you what is the logic of getting an “Enemy Killer” reward for killing 0 enemies… and we get right here where we are.
