What prestige? Nobody looks at another player who obtained an LS item and thinks “oh wow, that guy was there at the event, how awesome” At best, you’ll have people think “oh that’s a nice skin” and that’s it. lol prestige, please.

Ehm… I do.

I used to think, “Karka Shell – awesome, he’s been at that event!” or “Fervid Censer – cool, so jelly, I wish they gave us a chance to reacquire it!” and so on; and now that I simply exchanged hoarded mats for tokens and got those skins which people were receiving for achieving things (even if those things were trivial) during a special event, and I can actually receive all of them if I simply spend more gold, I feel like those skins lost their charm.

Human psychology… a weird beast.

So I think it says a lot about the quality of a certain part of content if even the people that are there doing it are telling me how terrible it is and what a waste of time it’s become.

Well, unlike world boss event changes, they’re still farming achievements there at the moment, but generally, yes.

On the bright side, the Gauntlet people should have far less lag than in the previous year.

I think you should avoid speaking for the majority of players based on forum comments. If you go read Reddit, for example, the response is overwhelmingly positive.

My experience about Reddit based on my sarcastic post about Megaservers was “Hail zergs, ANet is always right, blindly downvote blasphemers without providing arguments!” So… I’m not really surprised that something on Reddit got an “overwhelmingly positive” response; I think it doesn’t matter what it was, what mattered was that ANet did it, so it’s goooood.

As for MMO thing… I always wondered why people insisted on the fact that playing solo in a MMO is wrooong; why can’t you play next to all these people and interact with them when you feel like it, instead of always playing in a gigantic group where you can as well not exist at all?

You want to get a correct idea of what’s going on? Go in game and see how players feel about it and how empty and deserted it is compared to last year.

Asking players in the game about a change is not a great idea either; people who do not like the change simply move on from the area and won’t answer you, just like in case of megaservered world bosses.

So, paying 50s-1g to get back 50s-1g after 30 minutes of frustrating fighting with zerg-minded people who cannot read boss description is fun?

Okay…

Only 30 minutes? Consider yourself very lucky. I was in an instance last night that took over 90 minutes to finish a blitz, and it wasn’t due to people simply not understanding the mechanics.

The other one today didn’t finish at all. Killed 3, failed to DPS healing turret and people gave up. Tried to encourage people to split instead of tagging up… Unsuccessfully, obviously, as the chat was persistent in “it never worked”.

Could’ve as well trashed them… but well, they took up space in large bags bought for alts and in extended bag tabs, so probably working as intended.

Yes, because it is precisely why people play video games instead of communicating with real people: they need either ultimate fun, or usable reward, or documented achievements.

And as you can clearly see but refuse to accept is that things which fail to provide substantial amounts of fun and/or rewards in the game are upsetting players.

I would’ve actually preferred if these bosses were simply taken out of this event and put as world bosses in open world – they have nice mechanics for it apart from defiance.

I’ve always felt like the Multiple Dynamic Events in Zone Lead Players To Naturally Group Together and Eventually Challenge World Boss mechanic (as seen best in Ulgoth prior to timers) was always a good way to do this.

The problem is that you need reasons for people to be in the zones in the first place.

I agree, though, I think the fights are fun until the zerg shows up and you have 60 people wailing away on a near-infinite pool of HP.

Ulgoth event chain shows that being farmable is a good reason for people to zone in in the first place. If these encounters receive interesting farmable (like the Ulgoth one) or alternatively short and not boring (unlike Taidha barrels) pre-events and are even put on timers along with the other bosses (possibly with 2 world bosses on the same clock), than PvE in GW2 might become (back) a better place.

Stop eating the part of the loaf of bread which is too salty. You have already eaten the part which was not salty! And when the cook put a price tag on the whole loaf of bread, he definitely meant that you payed for the non-salty half of it and had to throw away the salty half so that he can feed his chickens with it, then bake them and sell to someone else!

Makes just as much sense, IMO.

Had a whole thread about zergs, AFKers and so on at the end of the first LS and another one on improving average player skills.

So I mostly agree with you. However… I would’ve understood the idea:

  • if that event actually awarded something valuable for the whole frustrating experience,
  • if it wasn’t designed to ignore crowd control skills and often whole subsets of skills (like reflects),
  • if it wasn’t the same DPS race as most events are, combined with crowds of suboptimal clueless (and most likely low-level) players,
  • if you as one of the mini-zerg actually mattered (as you mattered in Escape from LA events),
  • if it didn’t require from players more money to start it than it gives.

But as it is, it’s a poorly and greedily designed encounter which could’ve worked in a new game (well, it is a new game in China) but causes nothing but frustration in EU/NA GW2. The citizens event in LA was fun, even despite griefing and zerging; this event is not, and I can’t call people who refuse to admit these issues anything other than white knights, sorry.

I would’ve actually preferred if these bosses were simply taken out of this event and put as world bosses in open world – they have nice mechanics for it apart from defiance.

Good you have enough extra in-game money to start the Pavillion donation event (required for receiving achievements) which returns you a couple of greens.

Bold part is the key-word here.
OP seemed to imply that there were stuff that required real-life money.
And to be fair it is extremely unlikely that you are alone in starting an event, so you wouldn’t really need that much money anyway.

Re-bolded the really important part of it for you.

But I’ll be happy not to pay a silver for that event anymore and let White Knights enjoy the gold sink till the moment their funds are drained and they take out their credit cards to convert gems to gold or are unable to get gems from gold.

Lishtenbird.2814

My mesmer is currently bugged. I’ve noticed this change since the megaserver rollout.

When I try to cast certain skills (generally illusion/phantasm), my character goes through the animation, then experiences a phantom interrupt right before the skill is cast. I have to press my phantasm/illusion skills twice most of the time. This is really frustrating vs difficult opponents.

When I am downed, my stealth and teleport skill has the same problem. And when it does work, the stealth part is broken now.

Has been happening to me since long ago, but since the advent of Megaservers, almost all instances are fully crowded thus lag is getting longer. For a long time now I’ve been holding buttons to activate skills instead of pushing.

Changed the title.

But I really doubt it changes anything. They have this thread, they have the links, they have separate threads in Game Bugs section for new bugs – they have those listed but just do not fix them. nice summary, thats how i feel atm. with distortion being bugged(or intentionally nerfed) another survival in zergs is gone. it is already really tough to survive on mes in a zerg and now its even worse.

Do not forget about the post factum nerf of Triumphant Distortion which received a 10 second cooldown despite clearly being advertised as having no cooldown and leading to conclusion of this trait being viable in zerg.

anet please delete and start from scratch if u are unable to understand the class mechanics and fix the terrible bugs. just redesign the whole class.

Ah now I see what your talking about. You’re worried about rewards. Like I said in my OP, I agree that rewards for crown pavilion might not be good enough, but if you read my OP you would see that I don’t care about rewards.

Not rewards per se, but invest – return ratio. I’ve stopped doing Taidha because it’s terribly boring, Jormag has a nice design but I think he’s too tedious for the loot which is worse than Maw’s, Evolved Wurm is too dependent on getting into the right instance, and so on. If I invest time, I expect to get something in return – which is either fun or gold, but it’s ok even if it’s mostly useless karma in case of Teq; if I invest time and gold, and I do not even get fun because of several design decisions… I see no point in doing this content after getting “achievements”. On the other hand, I spent a lot of time in Kite City yesterday looking for crystals because a) I considered it fun and b) that thing measured my own skills, and not the other 14-19 guys around me attacking hawks.

Apparently, you consider Boss Blitz fun as it is, so you’re fine with their design decisions already.

So playing in zerg where you just spam #1 skill is fun?

Okay….

2-5-manning Inquest Golem, Svanir Shaman, Caledon Wurm was a lot of fun. 5-8-manning Fire Elemental was also fun, because it combined challenge, risk and guaranteed reward.

Mechanics of the new bosses are more or less interesting, despite a lot of things still being the zerker meta – immune to crowd control, unreflectable projectiles and so on – and still requiring mini-zergs because of HP amounts.

But the time-reward ratio is so awful that I think it is actually worth boycotting the events after achievements are done.

Mobs in Pavillion Drop (Almost) No Loot

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

As the title says.

  • Triggering the event requires money from players.
  • Mobs drop loot very, very rarely – 3 lockpicks and 1 bag of booty from a round of several bosses. (Tokens and tickets are not “loot”.)
  • Bosses do not drop loot despite being huge HP sponges.
  • The chest reward for completing the event is abysmal despite requiring a lot of organisation.
  • Mobs dropped loot last year.

With all that in mind, I can only conclude that “this is most blatantly a bug” © as I do not see anyone in one’s right mind doing the events again after the achievements are done.

Lishtenbird.2814

Hurray…they fixed tooltips.

But hey, the list is so long! One can’t say they aren’t working on our bugs, right, right? Ah, who am I kidding…

Incredible, another survivability key ability is gone: Mesmer was practically unplayable in zerg, now it is.

  • One broken blink which “teleports” you to current position in zerg = death, which happens, I think… 30% of time? 50% of time?
  • Getting stuck after survivability skills like phase retreat or blink bug out = death.
  • Not being able to distort through lines after broken blinks anymore = death.
  • Failed iLeap = high increase in chance of death.
  • Nerfed vigor = high increase in chance of death.
  • Phantasms not attacking gates = useless.
  • Constant “Obstructed!” = useless.
  • Targets constantly running away to “Out of range!” = useless.
  • One AoE weapon skill = poor tagging.
  • Illusions failing on invulnerable.
  • Temporal curtain not stacking swiftness – buy Traveler’s or go home. Chasing fleeing prey? Forget it.
  • Temporal curtain so low that its reflect is nearly useless.
  • Warden not attacking.
  • Warden reflecting damage to single target.

Hey, we still got veil and portal (without a range indicator)… which we can use if we do not need to slot in blink, condi removal and stability to survive, which obviously we do not as we wear heavy armour and have largest health pool and highest mobility.

Or maybe simply that they weren’t playing when this patch was live and now they can try it for the first time? I’ve always wondered why everyone thinks that the same amount of players since release has been constant through all this years…

Where exactly did you read that I was opposing the return of Liadri (and the mini)? I wasn’t playing at that time and I’m looking forward to beating that (finally a solo, not zerg one!!!) boss very much as I heard a lot about her. And yes, I expect the same difficulty (maybe with some fixing of camera issues and instancing).

I simply commented that most of those “out of hand” factors are excuses from players who have “laggy mouse not working on the sofa”, “slow notebook with bad wi-fi”, “zomg boss too hard to solo I need train oh my donut slipped and I spilled my coffee and hey I got a new tweet!” problems which are clearly not a valid excuse for failing a challenge. And I should note, that back in January there were comments about two large projects being in the works that’d be announced after Season 1 ended – projects untold about, and such other than the feature pack and China release.

Are these two related and the “announcement date” just got pushed back? Or… what?

I found a bug I havne’t seen reference to before. Compounding Power actually increases your damage numbers exponentially with Spatial Surge when you keep auto-casting. Gets up to 180k and then resets. The important thing to note is that it doesn’t actually do that damage; it’s just a UI bug :P So nothing as fun as the old Descent Into Madness bug. But here’s the proof!

That’s just a multiple times reported display bug which happens with many channelled skills, not mesmer’s only. Trait is irrelevant.

I know I mentioned that before but haven’t shown proof of it happening. There are times where the circles to the left of F1-F4 are filled showing I have illusions out yet in reality they are not. It has happened many times before but now I finally have it on tape.

Yeap, noticed that happening too, at least 2 times, and shattering did nothing (the usual “zero illusions” shatter CD only):

At least we may finally have the things going now, as 2 years after release Chris Whiteside, ArenaNet Studio Design Director, the guy who advices everyone on how X and Y things should be done in the game,

Chris: I only ever use car analogies. Basically I’m essentially the customer for the group that is building the car. We work together to spec out what the car is. Then the team builds it and I give them my support and tell them how I think it’s doing from a design standpoint. Then we iterate on it and iterate on it so it handles really well and we win races. How about that?

has finally rolled a mesmer!

Chris: At the moment I am learning to play a mesmer, but my main is a Warrior, and he is a shout heal spec. 34,000 hit points, and all the good heals, and he is my favorite at the moment.

Chris: Yeah on Guild Wars 2 China, I have a level 11 Mesmer which is fresh today, and I’ve been learning to play her. This is the first time I have actually played with a female avatar in an MMO so I’m still getting used to that. It’s a little bit weird.

Chris: That’s right. I really wanted to pick a class that I know isn’t the easiest. It’s a cool class but it requires skill. Obviously I’ve had a lot of practice with a Warrior so I really wanted to go in with a class that I could at least to a certain extent be at the same level as other players in the world so I could get a feeling of how they were going through the content.

I’m really fine with any way of content delivery as long as that content is permanent.

Personally, I think that content every 3-4 weeks is a nice pace, like

  • QoL features, bug fixing, small gradual balancing updates every 2 weeks and
  • thoroughly tested, balanced, not rushed permanent (or at least semi-permanent content) content updates every next 2 weeks.

“Content every 2 weeks” is a nice selling point, but “content which is totally bug-ridden for 1 week of 2 weeks of its existence” and “content being released for the sake of being released and postponing all fixing and balancing” is not a nice practice.

We need all NPC converstaions audio

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Hm… I always prefer reading to listening.

  • Reading is far, far faster way of receiving information.
  • You can skip the things you, hm, already know easily.
  • You can come back and re-read places you need if something is not making sense.

These are also the reasons why I always ignore Youtube tutorials and go for written ones. The only case when I prefer audio to reading is audiobooks which I can listen to during specific types of work when that channel of information is not used by the brain. I also skip most spoken cutscenes because there are subtitles, and actually reading subtitles while someone’s slowly speaking is irritating.

I agree that in movies and animation (well, I’m a “veteran” fan of Japanese animation) voice-overs contribute very, very much to the overall impression; however, in video games, especially with 3D models with default animations on a semi-static background… nah, I personally think those can (and should) be not voiced in 90% of cases.

OP, judging by previous threads on the subject, there are people like you and me who would enjoy leveling an alt with their main and jump into the “fun” straight away at 80, and there are people who’re opposed to the idea because they think that the way they want to play is the only way to play and who think that you can’t “learn to play a class” by reading guides for your specific task (like dungeon ele for example) and mastering it in a short time.

There’s been a suggestion not so long ago to sell in Gem Store an “exp accumulator” which could then get activated on an alt; I liked the idea but it got buried after some time.

Apart from that, LS brings up ways of trading some currencies for Tomes of Knowledge every now and then (Bazaar would be likely to have those); you can also get Tomes through PvP on a regular basis now by playing your main if you feel like it.

Upscaled champs in world boss events (Jormag, Fire Elemental, Shadow Behemoth, Evolved Wurm) do not drop champ boxes. Constant champs which spawn during pre-events (Caledon Wurm, Ulgoth) cannot be killed “instead” of the boss because they, well, appear before the boss.

That said, the sadist in me enjoys how oblivious greedy players get punished for being greedily oblivious at world events.

When you see identical twins and just assume it’s a mesmer.

Huh, reminded me of the one I forgot:

…when you see a girl in everything purple and want to click her to check if she’s a mesmer.

An easy solution is to craft or buy an invisible slot bag that hides items in it from being able to be sold or you could of course try paying attention when selling items to a merchant.

When you have two 1-handers and switch to one 2-hander, one of the 1-handers jumps to a usual bag regardless.

I said, that if someone disagrees with you, like me, then there are personal attacks. You have proved my point without me lifting a finger.

Okay, I won’t be pointing at where exactly you’re accusing people of what you’re doing yourself. And heaving read your posts over the forums, I’ll just say I see no point in arguing with you anymore. GL, HF; keep paying ANet when they’re making mistakes, and they’ll give you even more mistakes to defend.

The only reason I am defending is because the majority of players just complain without really thinking about what they are complaining about. This forum and most other game forums seem to be full of whiners and complainers with the ‘I am entitled’ attitude (not saying you are, mind you).

Alas, works both ways: the majority of players just defends without really thinking about what they are defending.

I am thinking about it, are you? It is easy to demonize A.Net and jump on the bandwagon of "they don’t test, look at all the bugs!‘. I am surprised many of you haven’t asked for a public lynching of A.Net due to ‘all the bugs’ in the game. Again it is the ‘entitled’ attitude coming out.

If GW2 is SO BUGGY, why are you playing it? Ask yourself that question…..

Well of course I am a stupid forum whiner and never think about anything, how did you guess?

Of course I never had to think when listing mesmer bugs and providing solutions, and didn’t have to think when coming up with 150+ QoL features (duels, mounts, player housing, guild halls, GvG excluded). I didn’t have to think when stumbling upon bugs in the game, analyzing them, finding 100% repro scenarios and reporting them.

And why didn’t I have to think? Because I do it naturally as it’s a part of my daily life and daily work – just like writing any-case-proof code for my web-projects and testing it under different circumstances is.

Because if I programmed a boss with several stages, I would’ve made sure that even in an unlikely case that the stages get skipped or overlapped, proper functions trigger and the system still works. Unfortunately, according to one of ANet dev’s articles, making fail-proof code is costly, and we all know how cost reduction is important in B2P games. Furthermore, I’m pretty sure that the current team is working with a sledgehammer on the old proprietary system developed by the devs of the release stage, and that’s the reason why we get undocumented dailies counted, contestable waypoints uncontested, town clothes converted to tonics, dailies not resetting, and weapons being removed from traders to save up on tab space.

As for playing… ANet doesn’t care if I play or not; ANet cares if i play or not. And from release to release and from one silence to another, I’ve lost faith in the dev team and stopped paying; and since you were interested, I’ve started playing less and less since the 15 April patch in my favourite part of the game and I’m starting to play less overall because I’m fed up with constant bugs and QoL issues here and there, and I also pretty much know that I will be getting a great amount of frustration for the first several days of each 2-week update as numerous silly bugs will pop out.

Why should they view it from the players perspective if players don’t try to do the same. It is not a one way street. Communication is two way – right now I see the forum posters not even trying to understand or listen.

Wow… You know, devs are not your grandma, and GW2 is not a free webcomic run by a single author, and it’s not even some student’s college project; it’s a BUSINESS: they SELL us their products, and we are their CLIENTS who PAY for it (or do not pay if we’re unhappy, simple as that).
