[Constructive] Whole-map event vs. Zerg & AFK

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I like this. I personally would like to add that we need a whole map event tracking system for the current maps especially in places like Orr because people who aren’t within 5 feet don’t know that a temple run has begun and thus don’t port there because there’s nothing on the main map about it. Same goes for all maps.

Typically it’s the FPS games that have used open world events systems and they’ve learned that it’s absolutely necessary to track these things on the main map across the whole map so that players can at least plan, this is true now for RPGs that use the same system. We need a main map event tracking system for the entire map so long as players are on the same map.

I had a large post on how to make low-level maps better (including map-wide and game-wide event tracking), but it got merged into the megaserver megathread by mistake. Maybe I should rework it and repost it.

Its taken some element of skill (timed swirling winds to destroy eggs) and replaced it with the need for more numbers and higher dps on mob killing teams.

I always thought it was a nice mechanic on ANet’s part to encourage teamwork, just like condi team on husks, but harder. Seeing it removed is just… wrong, just as wrong as was “fixing” power block to hit through Defiance.

A note to game developers: fix your bugs after release if you have the opportunity to do so. But beware that players enjoy the feeling of wielding “unfair” tactics, and taking that away from them can be a mistake if the “unfair” tactic isn’t powerful enough to single-handedly win tournaments.

GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]

in Living World

Yay, new permanent content.

But but, now lets all hope that this new permanent content is high quality permanent content.

Yeah all the high quality content from previous living stories were all large scale. In fact, all releases were pretty much large scale…I can’t envision how that works with these journals.

My guess is that each episode creates an instance of that map for everyone who’s replaying this episode. Pretty much like starting instances for new characters (which are shared by several people, just in case anyone appeared in an empty one), but on a large scale.

It’s not really different from zoning into megaservered Brisban Wildlands from megaservered Caledon Forest, except that it’s zoning into megaservered Brisban Wildlands (Corrupted by Dragon) from megaservered Brisban Wildlands (Pre-corruption).

Simply anet is giving credit to the wrong people.

And the credit apparently should go to the Queensdale farmers and the 111-spamfest at worldbosses and cleric staff guards and bearbow rangers for whom it takes ages to complete a dungeon because they refuse to think at all about how part A or part B in the game works?

Yeaaah, right. Next we should give credit to people who deliberately click on mines in minesweeper, because it’s “challenge!” and “fun!”, while thinking about most efficient ways to succeed is definitely not “fun”. I think I’ll leave this quote here:

The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win.

[Constructive] Whole-map event vs. Zerg & AFK

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Time to resurrect the thread.

Boss Blitz. Different open-world whole-map event, same problems:

  • AFKers who stand at waypoint or (worse) at bosses taking up the useful capacity of the map while people who are useful are unable to get in.
  • Leechers who autoattack a boss a bit several times and then just stand there, upscaling the boss and making it hard to kill and the event easier to fail.
  • Farmers who still need to “farm ogres” and “farm centaurs” for achievements right in the middle of a gold run. (Thread about counter-productive achievements in Boss Blitz.)
  • Taggers who go from boss to boss pulling tons of mobs to tag every boss for easy XP and randomly upscaling them. Those are usually upscaled (and now traitless thanks to the new trait unlock system) low-levels who hurt more then help.
  • Blind and deaf puppies who can play a video game but obviously cannot read at all (even whispers) and kill bosses too early, leading to a chain reaction of early kills and an eventual fail, or go “help” other bosses just to upscale them to enormous levels. Taggers can do it as well since all they need is to do damage to get credit. The same “blind and deaf” thing happens with donations which start event sooner than groups are formed.

New problems came with megaservers:

  • Blind and deaf puppies can now be people who a) don’t speak your language (usually even English), b) have their chat language filter on (which is on by default).
  • It’s next to impossible to find a fairly empty map to which all players from the guild/alliance can fit in (since there is no more option for guesting to a low-pop server). Taxiing people in is a frustrating waste of time, as well as spamming “join in world”. Trying to organise a run, then rage-switching an instance, rinse-repeat-quit Crown Pavillion is not a rare scenario. Having Gauntlet in the same map with random amount of people there doesn’t make it any better.
  • Any disconnect or crash (which happen a lot with megazergers) now results in loss of your place in a full map and effectively ends your game session. If you were a commander, that’s twice a problem. It also leads to being always forced to play on lowest graphical setting as otherwise a chance of client crash is very high.

The worse fact is that after several rounds of gold runs you are forced to resort to dirty tricks to shake off the freeloaders who gradually make it harder to do proper and efficient runs. So, what can ANet do about it?

  • Think hard, very hard and come up with a balanced system of limits similar to colour calibration buffs at Assault Knights and platform fight debuffs at Marionette which would discourage selfish behaviour, as well as fail-proof systems which make sure that 1 “play-how-I-want” puppy does not spoil the game of the other 79 players.
  • For Dwayna’s sake, just make instanced raids! That doesn’t even require hard thinking. With megaservers, it is now really easy to a) spawn a new instance – can be done as a guild, and b) taxi people who know what to do from your guild/alliance, and then taxi in everyone who wants to help via “Open World Content” LFG.

Ok, I may have run across a bug that’s not easy to reproduce but I know for a fact that it’s there. Managed to observe it 4 times yesterday (tested 4 times, 1 time w/out sigil 1 time with and then again 1 w/out and 1 with the sigil, to be absolutely sure I’m not just seeing things). I’m not sure what exactly causes it, still trying to figure that out. The bug is that under certain conditions (pvp gear/traits & pve gear) equipping Sigil of Force actually LOWERS your phantasm dps by 5%.

Direct bonuses (like +5% damage) do not transfer to illusions, that’s why Bloodlust is better for illusion-oriented (lol) mesmers than Force, and Ruby orbs are better than Scholar runes.

You know what I find interesting as an Engineer?

We’ve been discriminated the most the entire time in this game. It’s a CC/Condition focused class. Everything once could be affected by those two things but they’ve been nerfed to oblivion. No one said a word in our defense from any of the other classes in fact we were denied access to activities because we were told we were not Zerker enough.

So now the shoe is on the other foot while similtaneously they destroy the 1 thing that made turrets a tiny bit useful. The reflect shields. But this time it’s happening to other people not just us, and we’re hearing a great wailing from the deep about it now.

Where were you guys when CC/condi were nerfed hmm? What happened? Now because it’s affecting you it’s important huh?

I don’t get really get it why my post (or all mesmers?) becomes a target of aggression (instead of ANet’s design decisions). I main a mesmer and I feel that it matters, so I post it; you main an engineer – so go and post and cry enough to be heard. When you were nerfed, I haven’t been playing that game, and if I was, I wouldn’t have been maining an engineer anyway, so where’s my fault? As far as conditions are concerned, those are regularly discussed on forums and regularly ignored by devs as presumably too resource-heavy and game breaking.

As a mesmer, I can tell you that our class is being continuously bugged each patch and they even go as far as to put “buff!” and “class balancing!” labels onto bug fixes, or listing the same bug fix three times in three consecutive balance patches differently worded. We cry hard but are not heard… You cry hard and are not heard… And you know what – not being heard is neither mine no yours fault, so why hate each other?

Lol. Um. The Jungle Wurm was changed because it could be insta-killed with Feedback.

Would you have preferred letting mesmers who like trolling to ruin the boss every time for everyone else? I wouldn’t, and I main a mesmer. I’m guessing that if they flat-out nerfed the damage instead, it would have been a nerf to the skill itself – and that would affect us with every mob or boss with reflectable attacks. I much prefer the change they implemented.

Do people read?

Feedback insta-killing Jungle Wurm? Make attacks unreflectable instead of tweaking damage.

As a person dealing with code as well I find it rather amusing how people think that you can either nerf a class skill globally, or make a boss skill entirely unreflectable, with no solutions in between.

As a person dealing with code as well I find it extremely sad that ANet coders also think that you can either nerf a class skill globally, or make a boss skill entirely unreflectable, with no solutions in between.

your experience is that the rangers, engis and thieves you have played with suck, therefore you don’t think they’re capable of doing damage.

My posts today must’ve traited for Prismatic Understanding if people still fail to see what I’m telling them. All I said was that my experience tells me that an average casual warrior does more damage while surviving longer than an average casual [non-heavy class here] because if you smash buttons on a warrior you deal good DPS but if you smash buttons on a “difficult” class you deal low DPS.

And next thing I said is that “casual” gameplay is a dominant mindset in this game. If, say, in a random event you have 10% damage done by ultra-DPS non-warriors, 70% damage done by average warriors and 20% done by bad non-warriors, while you have 30% warriors and 70% non-warriors, guess which class’s average DPS is more efficient and which class is OP? Simple as that.

I count 18 skills that can reflect and 5/18 are mesmer skills. In addition, some of those skills require special conditions or traits in order to reflect. Granted a trait is needed for mesmer, but mesmer is the only one on that page which can chain it’s reflects for permanent uptime. The only ones that come close to that are turret engineers with the bubble trait, and guardians with a specific setup. I’d wager Mesmer still comes out on top in DPS. Well, at least it used to until these changes were made. Sucks.

Traited Warden’s reflect is broken, it reflects inconsistently and only damages the target on which it was cast (broken some time ago) – plus it often doesn’t spin at all, thus not reflecting; traited temporal curtain is very low and often inefficient; traited reflect on distortion only works with F4 IIRC. So not sure about “permanent reflect uptime”, but if traited and built for reflects, a mesmer can outlast bosses like Subject 7 fairly easily. (Sorry but at this point I can’t help but remember a healing signet warrior with a rifle simply kiting Subject 7 for the achievement until it died.)

Also .. has anyone else noticed that the rocks of the worms now often pull you towards you instead of push you away ?
Was totally puzzled when i first time used reflection with my Mesmer on a worm and was pulled. Just thought it was a strange bug at that time, but i think that has been happend quite some more times more.

Maybe they have a circular knockdown wave, like a real dropped stone has?

Are you really surprised? Or are you comparing the now well-known dps builds of warrior with a subpar condi build of necro?

I’m not comparing any specific build. I’d love to know how a necro does more dps and bring more group utility than a warrior.

I’m also confused as to why the topic so quickly flew off on a tangent discussion about warriors. AFAIK mesmers have the most reflects and would be the most impacted by this issue. Why aren’t we talking about them?

Warriors are sacred cows and scapegoats at the same time. Funny

This Wiki page tells us that reflects are not limited to mesmers. However, this also affects skills which destroy projectiles (like Swirling Winds or untraited Phantasmal Warden), but I do not have a list in the Wiki to link to as far as those are concerned.

Boom boom turret does take condition damage…

So it can be confused, burned, poisoned, tormented, chilled, feared? Okay…

what are you talking about more bosses being designed for zerk warriors? you do realise they only have middle tier dps right?

Hmm middle tier dps? Thieves do NOT produce more dps than warriors, elementalists without fgs neither. And there are banners, fgj, and a lot of damage increase traits with warrior. QQ

We and other dungeon guilds have either been using one warrior or zero warriors for world records. Guess why? The DPS isn’t good – you just want them for banners and empower allies. Thieves, non-fgs eles and triple phantasm mesmers surpass the DPS of warriors. Necromancers and guardians are on-par or maybe even slightly higher.

A zerk warrior has best DPS-survivability-skill ratio in an unorganised group, which is IMO 90% of GW2 gameplay. A good glass-canon might-stacking ele with a lightning hammer will bring more to a group stacked in a corner and will survive with proper dodges, interrupts and aegis from party members; a bad warrior will provide more DPS by smashing buttons and for longer than a bad ele who got downed by a grenade barrage while casting meteor shower (and a good ele who popped swirling winds to reflect grenades as well, by the way).

If we take Crown Pavillion for instance, my experience at Boom-Boom tells me that a group consisting of 4-5 warriors plus 1-2 eles with ice bows usually deals very good DPS and 5:00 on timer left with Boom-Boom ready at 5% is possible, while a mix of rangers, necros, thieves, engies and what not generally cannot reach it.

With respect to the OP and Jungle Wurm. No sympathy there. You should not get to one shot a world boss, whether it’s one that has to be killed by the Lambda Lambda Lambda frat house or an easy PUG one.

See here:

Feedback insta-killing Jungle Wurm? Make attacks unreflectable instead of tweaking damage.

Obviously no attack should one-shot a boss. But making these attacks unreflectable instead of making them do little (but proportionate to weapon skills) damage is a lazy fix (just as many others we often see in the game).

First we had 25 stacks condition cap.

Then we got [Defiant].

Then we got [Condition Reflect].

Now we get [Indomitable] and

  • “Some projectiles at Jungle Wurm no longer reflectable.” edit: apparently it happens with eggs at Evolved Wurm as well
  • Most bosses’ projectiles in Crown Pavillion not reflectable (except for some at Pyroxis).
  • Stealth fixes to bosses like Malrona whose projectiles are no longer reflectable.
  • Stones and spits from generic Wurms no longer reflectable (it used to be that way in Twilight Arbour, but not so long ago all wurms behave that way as well); who did the self-knockdown hurt anyway? It was fun and good for skipping wurms!
  • And let’s not forget healing turret at Boom-Boom and power regulators at Marionette – structures which do not accept conditions but are a core part of boss mechanics. edit: apparently the turret is a mob and accepts some conditions

I feel like every other thing except for direct damage is gradually rendered useless in PvE.

As far as I remember, the initial idea was that it shouldn’t matter what class you bring to the battle, it is still useful; however in practice, more and more bosses are being designed for [low skill-demanding but survivable enough] zerk warriors, with everyone else being left behind as too difficult to balance around. Feedback insta-killing Jungle Wurm? Make attacks unreflectable instead of tweaking damage. Mesmer’s Power Block shooting through Defiant and making mesmers useful in dungeons? Nerf it. Crowd-control skills cancelling one-shot mechanics? Remove CC instead of redesigning AI to allow all classes provide their own group utilities. Honestly, I’m already waiting for a patch which fixes the grub prevention “exploit” at Evolved Jungle Wurm.

So why should we be surprised by posts like “…but it doesn’t matter since we already replaced mesmer with a guardian…” and LFGs of “heavies only”? And you don’t even need reflects against generic boss ads in the first place if you can DPS those down.

Again, ANet: why design classes around utility skills and not direct damage, and then render those skills useless for anything other than brain-dead mobs which can be facerolled anyway (while also not bugfixing the core mechanics of classes)?

Please rethink your boss design philosophy. You’re making good steps in anti-zerg content, but class and build diversity in PvE still needs a lot, a lot of love.

All map resources, including collisions, affect performance.

I remember while making maps for UTIII (shameless plug here) that using simplified collisions on meshes was preferred and using per-polygon collision was very resource-heavy. And using blocking volumes was preferred for things like rows of buildings marking an edge of the map.

So though I agree it’s a pity we have to get rid of things piles in LA and crow’s nest in Cliffs, I will be willing to sacrifice those if it lowers the chances of out-of-memory crashes and disconnects in overcrowded megaservered maps even by 1%.

I also noticed that something was terribly wrong with “Pick Up [F]” but couldn’t remember what it was.

why are these all on the same key anyway?

why can I not bind revive player, talk to npc, and pick up item to different buttons?

The interact [F] problem has been discussed a lot because re-binding auto-loot key works but is not the ultimate solution to all annoyances of that [F]unction (including it not working on chests). I have several suggestion just on it gathered in this list:

48. Option to AoE auto-loot everything automatically (AoE-loot-on-kill) instead of AoE-loot-on-constantly-spamming-interact-key-and-ressing-or-talking-to-NPCs-instead. I know it is possible to bind interact and loot onto different keys, but having 1 key for both seems more user-friendly. Still, hilarious things happen when you pick up a banner instead, press 4 and rush into certain death because you didn’t notice it wasn’t a loot [F] but a banner [F].

49. Dedicated colour for looting [F] only (blue?).

50. Option to disable talking to NPCs in combat (there’s nothing worse than having an NPC dialogue pop up over mobs and target info while trying to spot a Subjugator in the middle of a zerg).

51. Ability to display a list of [F] actions and/or cycle through them instead of clicking to select a target which fails 95% of time (just try to click and pick up a Fiery Greatsword next to a Frostbow next to warrior Banner next to a dead player next to a dead NPC next to a NPC with a popping dialogue box); and/or a “Select next object” key. Also makes it easier to choose between crafting station/trader/merchant/NPCs and similar interact-heavy environments.

52. Do not display “Use [F]” for siege when it is already used by another player.

53. Option to relocate the interact [F] pop-up.

I was more talking about a condition parameter, don’t take the healing turret too literal.

One is about conditions met withing the fight, the other is basically in this example a timed kill.

I don’t know how to better explain this.

I don’t really see much difference between a timer condition and a, ehm, happening condition as long as both are tied to more efficient fights. If, say, bosses had their abilities changed during timer phases, that would even bring those closer to each other (and well, bronze tier now does it already).

To me there is a slight difference, let’s say I would have translated that into achievements like “kill boom-boom while his healing turret is operating” or without killing his healing turret at all. Something to that effect.

I don’t really think such an achievement even makes sense. It is completely counter-productive.

“Get Gold”, “Get Silver”, “Get Bronze” are like battery defence phases at Teq – you get the best loot if you do it right, but you still get something if you didn’t manage to. Flawless Defence and That Had to Burn achievements for Teq are actually quite productive as they outline the correct gameplay model.

Similar achievements for Boss Blitz could be something like “Destroy Boom Boom’s turret before it heals her for +3% HP” or something like that. On the other hand, “Reflect 10 projectiles from Pyro” is unequal in terms of classes achievability, and “Do not get knocked by stampedes” and “Avoid all AoE at Pirate” may be abused; and overall, forcing people to move from boss to boss to get achis is bad practice as it leads to people making decisions based heavily on their own needs (achi) instead of global map success (gold reward). That is why choosing the overall goal as the ultimate achievement (while leaving the meta achievable without it!) and letting people determine best tactics in such an encounter looks like a better solution to me.

No I understand that, but that is different because we are now looking at an additional condition.

Condition 1: Complete the Event
Condition 2: Complete the Event and achieve Rank X

I guess the closest would be the sanctum sprint, was there not 1st place and within the first 6 or something like that?

Not sure about Sanctum Sprint, not a pro in it, but there are variations of “ranks” in achievements like:

  • killing Assault Knights in 6 minutes instead of full timer,
  • saving each tier of citizens until the 1200 one (Group Effort),
  • escorting all X mobs from LA alive,
  • killing all 3 miasma deployments before timer runs out,
  • killing Warden while dodging all Mario’s attacks,
  • killing Holo while hitting small holos only while attuned,
  • killing Holo while not getting hit by scorches,
  • stomping Scarlet before she activates her shield,
  • killing Teq while firing megalaser at full strength,
  • killing Teq while having all turrets flawlessly defended.

Some of those may not be counted as “additional” conditions though.

They really do auto-complete just by playing without having to be good at theses events. But since they require next to no coordination and rewards rarely differ much, winning (=doing it properly) doesn’t really matter there, unlike in Blitz.

In this thread: OP asks for feedback on thoughts, then vehemently argues against anyone who disagrees.

In this thread: OP asks to tie achievements to what the main goal of this release is, people oppose because achieving the main goal of this release is hard and they are entitled to achieve everything regardless of their efforts.

By the way, you wanted to be snarky, but you actually outlined the classics of a discussion process:

  • Thesis and arguments from topic starter.
  • Counter-arguments from opponent.
  • More arguments as counter-counter-arguments from topic starter.
  • Rinse, repeat.

For the sake of relevance, I’ll throw in my 2 cents. Getting Gold in Boss Blitz is a frustrating enough experience without an achievement attached to it. Surely it would only get worse if it did have one.

Proof?

I have a diametrically opposite point of view: if people have a motivation to reach gold Blitz (an urge to get the achi), they will be more eager to listen to people who are trying to help them in it.

Arcane Thievery: Fixed a bug that would reset the cooldown for this skill when Far-Reaching Manipulations was equipped.

May 20:

Far-Reaching Manipulations: Fixed a bug that caused this trait to reduce the cooldown of Arcane Thievery by 5 seconds.

June 03:

Arcane Thievery: Fixed a bug that caused the Far-Reaching Manipulations trait to reduce the cooldown of this skill.

I wonder if there are enough Arcane Thievery cooldown bugs and tooltip fixes which could bloat the mesmer’s bug fix section in patch notes for the rest of the GW2 life span.

But hey, at least we got some minor rarely used skill bug fixed for underwater scenarios.

OP, no… just no. Do you remember the fiasco of 6 minutes for knighfall?

No, I do not remember any “fiasco” with “6 minutes to knightfall”. I only remember not having that achievement and several completely negligible APs because people in my map weren’t good enough and I had no easy means of guesting to another instance to work with like-minded people.

I also remember having AFKers and people doing counter-productive achievements which were put there by ANet – and I had a whole thread on it. (Un)surprisingly, we have them again.

Still, that achievement made me keep trying to explain what has to be done and command my knight group each evening.

Achievments need to be personally achieved, and not dependent on other 40 ppl.

No, meta achievements should be able to be personally achieved (which is usually done by a] putting in daily achievements which count towards meta and/or b] giving excessive amount of options for different playstyles). Everything above it should be achieved by harder work than usual and should encourage people to master their skills and get pleasure from the feeling of accomplishment.

…and ironically, what we see is people who are not achieving it personally, and are instead looking for a zerg (regardless of whether it hurts the organised Blitz run for the rest 95% of the map or not). A part of the fault for which is the high amount of mobs to kill, which is totally achievable solo but utterly boring.

Nobody cares about Boss Blitz!!!

(Well, I don’t know about others truth to be told, but I don’t care about Boss Blitz. Weee!)

Fine with me, as long as I can keep on participating in gold Blitzes on a daily basis and you don’t upscale our bosses by farming mobs near them

Though I wouldn’t exactly enjoy seeing a bunch of Cyrillic in my allchat.

Don’t worry, cyrillic is not supported in mapchat and displays spaces. (I know ’cause my main keyboard layout is Cyrillic and I tried it…)

Russian is a rare guest in mapchat from my experience. You will however face a lot of Spanish, German, French and whatnot if you like doing things like world bosses, as maps are now always full of people and it’s a hot melting pot of different nationalities who can or cannot hear each other because of the lame lang filter chat hotfix.

Other games I’ve played have made it where you earn best in slot gear through completing raids or dungeons and not randomly farming gold to then buy stuff off the TP.

That is a perception problem and the other side of the “play how you want” medal.

Just imagine if all exotics could be received only from dungeons and were not available on TP (and path selling was forbidden)… Don’t you already see the amount of ragequit threads from Queensdale train casuals claiming that their “play-how-I-wants” are now gated into difficult content which requires getting proper builds and coordinating with other people’s “play-how-I-wants”?

That’s a casual game, so farming something else and buying is a good option. It’s actually freedom of choice which replaces depending on other people and grinding unenjoyable content for being on par with everyone else, and that’s good.

Remove defending temples from the game.

The problem is the rewards. The biggest reason why people want the defense to fail is because the defense event doesn’t give a daily chest. The capture event does.

So, simple solution: give the defense event a chest, and give it the same daily flag the capture event does. That way, you can get your daily chest regardless of the status of the event.

I rarely cared about the chest at these events actually, I did those events primarily for T5-T6 mats from bags dropped by spawning mobs.

Another bug, don’t remember if it was reported already.

Sometimes illusions (phantasms only afaik, but could be clones too) will freeze for few seconds before shattering.

Funny. A bugged core mechanic of the class. Though I won’t be surprised if the problem in your video would be the same as with iWarden – pathing on slopes.

Hardly a priority compared to some of the class-breaking bugs we have to contend with on a daily basis, but it still really annoys me that after all this time characters still glide across the ground when Blinking while running.

Yes, hardly a priority, but yes, very annoying.

I just made a quick search through all the pages (this thread), none mentioning the combat tonic bug

So another fantastic bug that have been forgotten

Which combat tonic? The only “combat tonic” is AFAIK the watchknight one, and that does work with clones (unlike outfits).

Been requested many, many times (forum search doesn’t work though, so no wonder).

Official answer:

… store far less data inside templates when those happen.

THIS excites me Are we going to be able to store templates? That would really be a big big step!

No ETA on templates. However, the new build tech brings us muuuuch closer than before.

God, imagine the complaints if you had to use a light or medium armor piece in the crafting of heavy armor.

Hm… I actually like that idea Especially after having to craft light ascended with tons of damask and leveling leatherworking just for the backpiece. After all, metal can be bot-harvested to bring it to market, while cloth mats cannot.

Well, you’re searches are simply returning the armor itself. The armor itself is basically all metal, if you disregard the leather used to facilitate joints (like the fingers) and closure straps. Wearing it, however, does require cloth, though such use of the cloth is not for armor itself.

That’s pretty much the perception problem here, I think. While it’s obvious one has to wear some clothes underneath the metal parts (unless you’re a charr maybe), the cloth parts are not perceived as “armour” as I believe those are to a large extent independent from the other parts, and in a video game it feels like you’re crafting the metal look itself and the cloth parts come for free just as underwear or town clothes.

TL;DR: I agree that having cloth in a full “armor set” is required IRL, but when crafting it in a video game, it feels like the cloth is not part of it but a free universal asset.

Even if it is heavy armor, cloth is still used in it’s production, as well as actually wearing it. Not only is it padding due to the weight, it also hampers heat transfer (you’ve seen how hot a car’s interior gets in the summer sun), and acts as an additional layer of protection when thick enough if the metal itself is punctured (no need to give yourself lacerations every time you move).

That being said, leather would make more sense than cloth for the production of it.

Yes, having some cloth (or rather leather) for padding and such made sense for me, but it didn’t go beyond 10% (ok, 20% max). The things I have in mind when speaking about heavy armour are usually the stereotype empty metal shells from movies with castles, and googling “knight armour” didn’t make it any better.

List of 150+ QoL Features

Might want to rename thread if that list keeps going up.

At a concrete point in time my belief in value of my non-positive feedback plummeted, and I stopped wasting my time keeping the lists of bugs and features systematised and updated. If anyone feels like it can make a difference and wants to keep the list going and sorted by categories, feel free to grab the initial list and tidy it up in a new “175+ features” post.

Dual spec is the ability to name and switch between two trait/equipment setups that we setup ahead of time in a separate set of equipment/skillbar/trait screens that allow for the instantaneous out of combat switching of roles ( for the few of us who do actually attempt to use the so called half broken roles in the game outside of Zerker in the open world, but that’s for another post ) complete with Wardrobe interface.

I used to think that it’s “too much automation”, but after having to switch again and again between “General PvE spec”, “Crown Pavillion PVT/zerk spec”, “Gauntlet zerk spec”, “WvW tournament spec”, “EoTM achievement train spec” and “PvP weapons set”, I agree at this point that we need spec presets…

Seems someone isn’t so informed. They most certainly do if they want ascended armor.

My mistake here, I acknowledge it. I really believed in metal armor requiring, ugh, 90-100% metal and not 60% cloth.

There’s a patch tomorrow?

Edit: they don’t need to patch to add gem store stuff generally…

They need to patch in a WvW rewards NPC.

Though I’d hope for some Dragon Bash activity or at least new skins to unlock for tokens. And we also have SAB not recycled yet (not that I oppose to it since I missed it).

thats why invisible bags exist….not saying r lock clicking aint easier…but with these bags, clicking lock will not happen.

Items from invisible bags appear in Mystic Forge though, and AFAIK people who gamble for precursors have already forged their own precursors because of that “feature”.

And why not? Invisible bags aren’t gemstore items, they’re common. Bags are “auto-lock” for everything placed into them (up to 20 items), manual clicking = “manual lock”.
