Every time I point that thing someone’s got to mention gore. Seriosuly, what’s wrong with you guys? Do you even know what “gore” is? Not every little cut on your finger when making a dinner is classified as “gore”.

I started my anime “career” with Elfen Lied. I know what gore is.

If you refer to Transformers, I’m afraid you’re already lost or don’t get it.
If you can’t see the difference between Pulp Fiction and Transformers, it’s even worse.

Well, it was you who mentioned Michael Bay. And it’s 2014 today.

I loved Tybalt because he was funny and not so serious.

Exactly what I suggest.

That has little with the concept you outlined as I saw it. Braham fits the bad-kitten (yes, I typed “kitten”) hero type more or less, while snarky remarks are reserved for asuras (god, I want to finish their personal story more than the one on my main), so it works already. Brutality is reserved to charr, blood-like animations are reserved to warriors. Concentrating everything in a single character in GW2 would make him an annoying bad taste joke placed in random places, a cheap comedy character, which is worse then Scarlet (even though I like her character).

Just give less “son” feeling to Braham, make him lose Rox or break him in another way, and let him be reborn as a real Hero – and we’re done.

Guild Wars 2 is quite… too polite. Compared to other MMOs with same PEGI rating it lacks some serious “oomph”, more “dirty” jokes (Hell, why we love Tybalt and his “apples” ?), visible brutality – in one word, more “Big&Bad”.

No, it doesn’t.

I’m playing GW2 because it’s different from “other MMOs”. It’s pretty, it’s fun, it’s fantasy and has very little of the actual violence and suffering of the real world’s wars.

You may not like Dress Up Wars 2, but I prefer it to Gore Wars 2. Add more violence, gore, dirtiness and Transformer’s idiocy level heroism – and it’s the straight way to lose me as a player.

I’m still wondering how you’re seeing nerds oggling at video game characters when looking at your GW2 screen, and not 3D women and 3D men wearing 3D clothes of various skimpiness. If you really do, that’s definitely neither the game’s nor the nerds’ fault, but simply you prejudging people you can’t even see.

Would be nice if they made it so that people can change their standard underwear to bikinis / change to some colors – meaning they would not have any armor value / stats just like underwear now.

Or make it some kind of only underwater use armor.

Would just look weird with bikini / speedo combat otherwise.

That would solve the problem of using it in combat, yes, and it will lead to far less people using it to “annoy” others.

But on the other hand… I’m really afraid that “underwear wardrobe” would unfortunately cause far more RAGE posts from purists and concerned mommas than a simple swimsuit outfit, even though it actually leads to less overall density of displayed swimsuits in the game.

Lishtenbird.2814

Quoting myself from the post I made earlier:

Hey there, Anet.

At the moment, we already have enough problems with community coordination due to

  • always full and never empty maps in megaserver system,
  • people with language chat filters turned on and unaware of its existence,
  • lackluster Commander system,
  • absence of in-game voice communication (not happening for understandable reasons),
  • message suppression.

All other things aside, the last issue is getting more of a problem since you’re delivering us more content which requires coordination, but you’re suppressing us while we’re trying to actually coordinate – thus playing it the way you intended!

This has happened before at Tequatl and Wurm, but you most likely had people on Teamspeak there… now it’s Living Story full of random people from different servers. We need to communicate there if you want us to play it your way, and calling out thing like “Conditions now!” or “Stop conditions, DPS!” or “Turret here!” or “Throw seeds!” or “Do not throw seeds under the boss, #;&!:!!” is part of it.

I tried being a turret caller yesterday at Boom-Boom… and I got suppressed really fast. I then had to spend crucial time to misspell the “trurrat” word each time instead of DPSing… And still got suppressed eventually.

So, what I suggest doing regarding message suppression:

  • Raise substantially or lift suppression threshold for areas which require coordination: Teq, Wurm, Marionette, Assault Knights, Hologram, Pavillion etc.
  • Raise substantially or lift suppression threshold for players who have a Commander tag acquired regardless of it being active or not, because detagging is often crucial to avoid the lemming effect.

To further facilitate communication you also can:

  • Turn off language filter by default. People will tell each other you can turn it on eventually.
  • Provide Commanders with more abilities, like assigning sub-commanders (would help in events which require either zero or 5-6 tags – see Mario, Pavillion) for a limited time even being detagged themselves,
  • like different colors for commander tag icons,
  • like pre-set commander chat commands (“Turret!”, “DPS!”, “Repair!”, “Build!”, “Stack on me!”, “Fire fields! No light fields!”, “Blast water fields!” etc.) which could be assigned to buttons (numpad?) and rapidly delivered to players without having to type them each time, especially if Latin is not your main keyboard layout.
  • Think of a system to temporarily demote people who tag up when they shouldn’t (and thus drive away the lemming part of players from correct objectives); it may be a kind of very transparent or bad-colored tag as a semi-measure.
  • Think of reworking the squad system.
  • Introduce a user-side right-click anti-spam report system which would activate a message suppression algorithm (no, not just suppress everything) to deal with real chat abusing (preferably usable on emotes as well).
  • Lift mail restrictions on things like potions in parties and message restrictions in non-local and non-map channels.

Unfortunately, I do not see the situation changing, as there are enough people in the community who at the same are a) used to be carried, to go AFK, to pull mobs while tagging all bosses, to leech and b) aggressively jealous of people who’re spending their in-game money and time to herd cats organise things so that these very players get their Gold runs and Teq chests.

The only real “fix” to the system is guild-spawned instances where everyone knows what to do and is on TS (and is kicked if found leeching or griefing), so you don’t have to type anything in the chat in the first place.

Well not complete. Underwater breaze is still ignored by the clones and if your outfit has an hat and you turn it off at your charakter the clones still wearing the hat, even if turned off at costumes. If there is something similar with the shoulders if you turn them off, I not tested.

I noticed today in pvp my clones wearing a hat but my chars has none. So the bugfix is just done about 95%. And don’t forget aqua helms still not work !!

It’s good someone tested it. I saw clones wearing outfits (the one and only Ancestral) and had no idea they overlooked the rest of the problems.

Lishtenbird.2814

I used to think about an anti-zerg Bottleneck Trap. When triggered, it creates a block with a passway which lets only X number of players pass. Several options on how it is shut down:

  • After the limit is hit, the passway closes and starts a timer for N seconds, after which the gate self-destroys.
  • After the limit is hit, the people inside have to destroy the power regulator to shut down the trap.
  • After the limit is hit, the people inside have to solve a small puzzle – maybe something as simple as activating X (or X-N for noobproofability) levers simultaneously, similar to panels in Harpy fractal.
  • After the limit is hit, the timer starts, and when it runs out, it lets X more people to pass. After N cycles, the trap runs out of power and self-destroys.

Ah, ok. The post makes more sense now.

While I agree that being able to pass outdated exotics to alts (like those left after moving to an ascended set) would be nice, I also understand that economic reasons are important here – it’s a pretty large gold sink.

In a perfect world – yes, I would prefer to have all gear account-bound on use, maybe except for those items which can be purchased only from renown hearts. In a less perfect world, having at least exotics account-bound would be nice, but again, they are (relatively) cheap anyway except for ultra-rare stats while they still serve as a minor gold sink and as a bank space hogger.

Dreamthistle Weapons + Guardian Effects = ?

in Guardian

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I’m thinking of making a Dreamthistle-themed sylvari guardian, but I wonder if guardian effects (whirls, shield, symbols etc.) would fit these weapons.

The problem is, I already have character slots full, and already got a half-leveled human guardian with crafting done and traits unlocked. New character slot for a duplicate class, trait unlocks and so on are quite an investment considering the cost of these weapon skins.

So I wonder, have anyone used Dreamthistle weapons on guardians? Do they work together? Aesthetics are an important part of the game for me, so your feedback is appreciated:)

I suggest “Adrenaline Overdose” debuff. Having your adrenaline maxed debuffs you in an exponential manner by stat decreases and/or conditions, eventually leading to a Heart Attack where you reset adrenaline and enter a recovering-like state.

Ready Up: Balance Philosophy - 6/13 @ Noon PDT

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

First, a quote on class roles and balance philosophies:

We want to get all classes on the same playing field, and we want to avoid “whack-a-mole” style balance.

1. Mesmers – our kryptonite is our broken skills – mesmers are presented with “tricks” to compensate for “low armour”, and then their tricks are rendered useless by long-lasting bugs, thus leaving them with just “low armour”.

  • Broken iLeap, non-attacking non-reflecting iWarden, broken Blink, stuck in place or in object after Phase Retreat or Blink, Illusionary Elasticity, illusions not attacking gates and so on. I just can’t stress it enough as how frustrating it is to regularly die or fail because of a broken skill.
  • Non-stacking swiftness on Temporal Curtain, often fatal downed skill 2, Portal missing range indicator, being unable to hit siege in WvW are examples of skills which still need work because many skills feel very “broken” in general gameplay.
  • Stealth feels broken as well. Stealth should be a timed defensive “trick”, yet there is nothing defensive in being tracked and knocked by a skill while in stealth. Stealth should break channels and make projectiles miss. Otherwise, again, it’s a trick designed to compensate for low defense which defies its purpose. I’ve never used a torch in PvE for anything other then a light source, and trying it for “Blobs, Schmobs” achi reminded me how useless it was again.
  • Please stop advertising bug fixes as buffs and class balancing/polishing. Tooltips are also not class balancing. These things are independent of each other, and seeing them presented as the same is – sorry – infuriating.

2. Please stop balancing mesmers solely around PvP.

  • We may be good for annoying newbies with PU and clones, but…
  • We are veilbots in zergs in WvW (thus 1-2 mesmers is enough), even though we want to tag for bags.
  • Our illusions die before they can tag anything in facerolling and AoE-spam PvE – we lack AoE damage. We also cannot cast illusions fast enough on “Invulnerable!” mobs before they melt.
  • We are generally locked into Traveler’s runes because we lack speed signet/OoC trait and our blink/focus swiftness are broken, even though you say that “They share some of the stealth and mobility that the Thief enjoys, but suffer from a low health pool if you get past all their tricks.”
  • Traits are made lackluster on purpose or rapidly nerfed not to allow even a slightest advantage (which, incidentally, is a purpose of a trait!) in PvP. Grandmaster traits such as Power Block are useless in PvE/WvW – as well as most grandmaster traits anyway, including new ones. The notorious glamour nerf. “Vigor on crit” nerfed because of PvP (“too much clone spam, cheesy mesmers, no more dodge for you!”), leaving PvE/WvW mesmers with even less defence tricks. Power Block “bugs” which made them at least viable against thieves and bosses in dungeons got hotfixed nerfed. Triumphants distortion got ninja-nerfed with an internal cooldown, even though advertised as without one.

3. Pure-DPS classes vs. “utility” classes.

And remember, no single profession should be the best at everything!

  • If we want “to get all classes on the same playing field”, we need to balance classes across conditions and usable utilities as well as DPS. Otherwise, we have “zerk warriors only!” in LFG and warriors melting down graveling burrows and mobs before any mesmer can even build up their phantasms or stack conditions.
  • That also means that combining high mobility, high sustain and high DPS in a single class might be a class balance mistake. Example: Healing Signet, Warrior’s Sprint and multiple immunities without any extra requirements compared to Signet of Ether (needs illusions), Compounding Celerity (needs illusions) and requirements to build (and keep) up phantasms to do decent damage.

4. Balance updates should be made more often and in small steps.

HUGH increases and HUGE decreases lead to meta instability, and thusly, we try to make multiple small tweaks rather than putting in massive changes that we have to later correct.

  • Instead, we see looong stages of people investing a lot into ascended Celestial just to have its crit nerfed,
  • or investing a lot in overpriced Runes of Strength before those get nerfed as well, and so on.

TL;DR: “no single profession should be the best at everything” is not “one profession should be best at one thing and skritt at everything else while another one can be good at everything” – that’s my view of the balancing problems at hand.

If you give engis and eles an OoC weapon swap (thus e.g. giving an ele 8 weapon sets instead of 4 without opening inventory), then please add a weapon set swap function to other classes so that we can have 4 instead of 2.

Because I do not think it’s fair that an ele would have 8 open weapon sets in sPvP during the match and my class would have 2, or that an ele can change those in WvW in a brief moment of OoC with one button while my class would have to search for those in inventory.

However, whether a fix is small in terms of resource allocation is not something we can discern and it’s pointless to pretend otherwise.

Likewise, we cannot assume that only marginal hotfixes are available, and there are no proper solutions ready for a mechanic existing since release. Whatever your resource allocations may be, but having to hotfix a mechanic existing for 2 years is, as you said, “laughable”.

We as users think it’s an easy change but obviously it’s not since it has been 2 years and they still have not changed it.

That’s not a problem with easiness. That’s a problem with priority.

It took them a couple of days to fix slaying potions when Scarlet’s Slaying potion came out, while those have been bugged for ages.

It took them a couple of days to fix transparency issue on phantasms with Zodiac gemstore armour. Because those had priority, and these things do not.

Still, it took them more than a year to fix Liadri exploit (which it was as the thread got removed with a “discussing exploits” reasoning) and WvW chests not being awarded, even though they had plenty of time to fix a known issue.

The game is a mess of quick-and-dirty fixes, because ANet has a nasty habit of fixing “something” they broke in a couple of patches after a major release, and then moving to “more important” things. That way, invisible Tequatl, stalled Megadestroyer pre and Taidha not coming to Grenth are still bugged, waypoints are still randomly contested, and it was possible to get undocumented achievements in the first part of April because something was coded there over something else. It totally looks like the game was designed by a certain team at the initial stage, and everything else is being bandaided over that code by new people who know very little of how that monster works in the first place.

Just look at mesmer bugs – there are fixes over fixes over fixes. Blink and iLeap bugging out are “skills following general shadowstep scenarios”. They’ve bugged iWarden, and then they’ve fixed it, and fixed it, and it’s still and even more broken – just like other phantasms whose AI fails a lot because of the underlying issues which were not addressed at a proper point. At some point Temporal Curtain has been hotfixed not to give “too much” swiftness, and no one cares anymore about fixing it properly because the class is not popular anyway.

There should be a reasonal limit to hotfixing. Making Liadri regenerate is a viable hotfix (though a terribly late one), but Jade Maw was not fixed for the same tactics – because it’s been a local hotfix and not a proper fix to lifesteal vs. invulnerable mobs issue. Similarly, hotfixing one projectile at a single bosses will only result in a bugged new boss (or a new bug at a different but similar old boss – like eggs at 3H Wurm), and in total time for hotfixing at some point exceeding time to come up with one proper global solution to the mechanic.

Why?

in Living World

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Because people are aware of systems established long ago which can function in an efficient manner, and care enough about the game to prefer having those systems back over innovative yet lacking systems which often lead to discontent among veteran players.

That said, I generally like the overall concept of this game and agree that some systems are requested inertially, and while they do not belong to this game, something still has to be done to unleash the full potential of the now stagnant “innovative” system.

Living Story= Community Event not solo farm

in Living World

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

My belief is that LS as solo instances is a large misconception based on lack of information. We’ve had megaservers for a reason:

Yeah all the high quality content from previous living stories were all large scale. In fact, all releases were pretty much large scale…I can’t envision how that works with these journals.

My guess is that each episode creates an instance of that map for everyone who’s replaying this episode. Pretty much like starting instances for new characters (which are shared by several people, just in case anyone appeared in an empty one), but on a large scale.

It’s not really different from zoning into megaservered Brisban Wildlands from megaservered Caledon Forest, except that it’s zoning into megaservered Brisban Wildlands (Corrupted by Dragon) from megaservered Brisban Wildlands (Pre-corruption).

Same thing with “Join in [map]”: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/279bpk/i_think_the_guy_who_put_join_in_server_next_to/

I believe guild functionality should only belong to the guild panel.

LS season 2 will be bad ?!

  • That was an announcement. As an announcement, it gave a good whole picture of the new system: each episode of the new LS will be replayable on demand.
  • More info will come later in a FAQ format.
  • If you were unable to understand the “go to yellow star”, “spam weapon skills”, “collect rewards” mechanics of the LS1 without speaking to other players, that is not a problem with LS. Maybe you should move to an easier game with less text (or text in your native language).

so we mesmers are less useful now because one of our best utility (reflects) are useless now.. nice job…

you guys are still loved in wvw X)

Except that we hate being veilbots and portalbots and want to tag for loot as everyone else.

We have (actually 2) threads on this subject, but they’re both in Profession Balance subforum now:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Please-Stop-The-Reflect-Discrimination/
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/On-Reflects/

We also have one about eggs at Wurm at General Discussions:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Make-eggs-reflectable-at-Wurm/

…and one in Game Bugs:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Ancient-Jungle-Wurm-Eggs-Unblockable/

And another on Malrona in Game Bugs:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bug-Malrona-projectile-attack/

I wonder if consolidating those would make sense.

On Reflects...

  • Stop playing
  • Consult a chart of what can and cannot be reflected
  • Use reflections when the chart designates that they are useful
  • Bypass the above by learning the freakin’ “Projectiles that may be Reflected” chart

Funny thing, I was going to gather a list of non-projectile projectiles some time ago…

Afk Plague in the Pavillon

Yes, happens a lot. People just tag the boss and then go AFK autoattack (or do other counterproductive things).

It’s bad that in organised runs we have to resort to dirty tricks to shake off the growing mass of freeloaders every now and then and to get people who know what to do into the map instead.

We Needed Silver And Gold Blitz Achievements!

in Festival of the Four Winds

Lishtenbird.2814

Ah, I guess I wasn’t necessarily thinking “most efficient” but I rather looked at this from the other side.

Getting to gold, or if you will learning and coordinating the event will, or so I would think, automatically lead to bronze, silver to gold in most cases.

Now here I think it might be more fun to add achievements – like not getting hit from the stampede or leaving the healing turret alone (preferrably a mix of solo and group efforts).

Would there not be a higher replay value? Of course I would not have both since some people would try to get those achievements and – considering it might not be most “efficient” – that could collide with getting gold.

1) If I have to choose between efficiency and replayability in a group event, I will choose efficiency. If I have to choose between efficiency and replayability in a solo event, I will choose replayability. That’s why “Kill Doobroosh with 10 stacks” is totally fine, but “Dodge 10 rolling fires at Pyro” is bad and will affect organised runs heavily.

2) In a group event, I believe that efficiency like gold runs provide more freedom in replayability than per-boss achievements. You can play any boss you like instead of being locked into a single one you’re bad at but have to do achievements regardless.

I would really like some "sexy" gear skins

Just saying, the vast majority of the attire that’s available on this game is what I’d expect to see on strippers. I really am baffled how you think otherwise. :P

Just saying, except it isn’t if your math is ok:

I like skimpy but I think we should have more non-skimpy now. We got enough of one, let’s bring the other up to par.

We have 15 Skimpy vs 27 Non-skimpy female light armors. We have ~5 skimpy vs 37 Non-skimpy female Medium armors(But a lot more low-cut tops). We have 9 skimpy vs 33 non-skimpy female heavy armors (Unfortunately, all faction armors are skimpy).

We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male light armors. We have 0(!) skimpy vs 42 non-skimpy male medium armors. We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male heavy armors.

I considered any armor that exposes any part of the torso (Other than neckline) or legs to be ‘skimpy’ for the purpose of this examination, which means a lot of armors that are ‘skimpy’ still cover a significant amount of the body.

Yes, there’s an imbalance and one side needs to be brought up to par with the other. It’s not the non-skimpy side, though.

[Suggestion] Crafting Profession Back Items

I hope those make way to us in the new LS. It doesn’t really make sense to get rid of items for one part of the game if they’re willing to keep it consistent (apart from local censoring purposes, of course).
