We complain because we care.

Once we stop, the game’s either World’s First Perfect MMO, or dead. The latter being far more probable.

There’s a massive difference between complaining and providing feedback from a negatively affected point of view. Take the following for example:

“OMG, this megaserver and boss schedule means my guild cant do bosses anymore whenever we want to, we dont care about the consumable because it doesnt help us run bosses RITE NAO.”

VS.

“This update impacts the ability of the guild I’m in to run the raid level bosses for all of our members, especially considering there are over 3000 members among our ‘conglomerate’ guild. Additionally, the guild consumable is not a valid, or effective, solution due to our guild members being on all 24 NA servers across 6 different guilds, and Anet’s decided lack of fixing the guild chapter problem. Furthermore, it will take close to 2 months and 5k gold to get the influence necessary on a single server for each guild, and this does not touch on the necessity of merits in the consumable. Finally, the guild I am a member of runs this raid bosses a total of 42 times a week. The cost of the consumable severely limits running the world bosses as they only spawn the boss on a single instance.”

Which one do you think the devs prefer working from, and players prefer reading?

Check out the threads in my signature and you’ll get an answer.

Again, after seeing what many communities are like, I can still say that the amount of sensible and constructive posts on this game’s forum amazes me; the game is casual enough to attract not only people who’re hardcore children gamers but also intelligent adults who can provide constructive feedback. And you know, I really doubt that a 40-year-old middle-manager will go write a “I’m sick of those [kitten] forum complainers, go play the game!” post, but instead a list of issues he managed to see with his job-trained brain, as well as possible solutions, pros and cons; a child blindly protecting his precious world, on the other hand…

Posting constructive criticism on the forums is a great idea, but in practice it’s a lot like trying to whisper in a room full of people who are shouting as loud as they can. It doesn’t matter what you’re saying if no one can hear you.

I can prove you wrong by at least the engineer’s buglist thread and the mesmer’s buglist thread, with other features massively discussed by the community making it to the game as well.

On the other hand, I agree that threads loudly complaining on how others are complaining provide a great deal of white noise to mask real concerns and make it worse.

Maybe more people would post positive feedback if they weren’t insulted and chased off the forums. ‘Cuz it’s not cool to say anything nice here, ya know. Lol.

Posting nice things about things considered nice by most doesn’t get you insulted; posting nice things about things by which most are negatively affected will most likely provoke a flame – and that’s what we have here.

Hey, we have a positive GW2 Jokes thread, a You’ve played GW2 too much if… thread and a nice amount of fanart in community corner. I posted “nice things” in all of these places – because I generally still like the game, you know! – and didn’t get chased off.

But I and a lot of so called “forum complainers” see objective issues in the direction the game is heading to – exactly because we’ve been here for long enough – and try to provide the feedback in the ways we are able to – some really constructive, some not very (and I’m still positively surprised at the amount of the first on an MMO forums). These “complain” posts serve a meaningful purpose – to make the game better by adding QoL features and fixing several years worth of bugs, to make playing experience more pleasant by getting rid off over-under-population and multi-language insults, to let people stay in the game longer than the initial 100% map and PS completion by adding more permanent content; all that posts from [ADT] ANet Defence Team do, on the other hand, is provoke meaningless forum flamings.

If you farm crafting mats, it’s cause for celebration.

Nothing changed. The demand is close to constant. The supply got down, the price got up – no one gets more profit.

Hate to break it to you but before they even touched the trains t5 and 6 mats were already up in price. Also charged cores going up to 1g again is not new. They’ve gone all the way up to 1.5g before they crashed back down.

I see a clear +30s increase in lodestones post April 15: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24305

I’ll just quote myself from another thread:

I’m amazed at how short-sighted many people are: they’re happy at making other players suffer without understanding that those people were the ones who made their life easier by repeating monotonous task which the first players wouldn’t have to do. It’s like being happy at a limit of those dirty lousy yardmen – before seeing that they’ll have to pick up all the trash themselves now.

Fasalina, Nerelith and others who admit they haven’t studied economics, here’s a Wiki image.

The image shows an increase in supply – the price drops. When supply decreases, the price increases.

  • Let’s say we had 100 players who needed 1 charged lodestone per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week.
  • We had 10 farmers who farmed 10 lodestones per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week.
  • Let’s say the price got an equilibrium at around 2g.
  • After patch, we still have 100 players who need 1 charged lodestone per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week – nothing changed.
  • After patch, the 10 farmers can only farm 5 lodestones per week.
  • When the first 50 lodestones at 2g are sold, the other 50 players still need 50 more lodestones.
  • Because they need these lodestones but can’t get them, they offer more for these lodestones – let’s say up to 4g per lodestone.
  • 10 other non-farmers see that the offers for lodestones got higher and decide to go farming.
  • Now we have 20 people farming instead of 10 people to provide enough supply of 100 lodestones per week, while players pay more for the exact same lodestones because otherwise the farmers will stop farming.

Result of the train-nerf which you’re so happy about? More people have to grind, more casual players suffer from an increase in prices. Both sides become unhappy (and eventually leave the game).

…and let’s not forget that world boss trains for ecto and Orr event farming for T6 also got nerfed.

Why would I?

I’m serious… if you’re not satisfied with the game, coming here and posting “this game sucks!” is the least effective way of providing feedback, while choosing not to spend money on the game is the most effective.

Just was not sure if it was sarcasm. I do not think that money should be the only feedback in today’s world; the best I can do as a player is summarise my concerns and present them in a constructive way for developers to hear and for community to discuss; well, if that fails… I’ll have to resort to wallet, hoping that the company understands that keeping a happy buying customer may be a lot easier than making (a totally finite number of) new players buy the game at 50% discount and then have them leave because of bugs, toxicity and lack of permanent content.

ANet is a game company. It is not cost effective for a company to devote resources to fixing bugs. This is because the majority of players only respond to constant new content (even if temporary) and to have something to do, a fancy carrot to chase, and only a small number of people will care that bugs got fixed.

FYI: I’m a part of the “minority” who have by this moment multiple times used gold instead of available cash because I was feeling dissatisfied with the company’s attitude towards “old” players and fixing bugs.

Following this thread, added:

37. Phantasms and Gates.

  • May not attack gates (both in PvE and WvW) – just spawn and do nothing.
  • May spawn on the other side of the gate.
  • As a result, may switch targets and attack enemy players/NPCs since they’re already inside.
  • As a result, may get killed instead of staying on the right side of the gate and attacking it.

Not sure if I’ve seen this behaviour prior to the patch, but I believe yes.

I noticed that my phantasms get spawned on the other side of the door and are not attacking it; I also noticed some suspicious activity on the other side of the door (red and white damage indicators), which I assumed was phantasms fighting NPCs or players.

Not sure where and how it is reproducible, but that definitely looks abnormal. Will list it in this thread.

They didn’t mention all of them that were reported. That’s my concern.

If you’re talking about Tyler’s post, then some bugs simply got listed after it.

As for feature patch notes… Yes, a lot of us were expecting far more fixes, especially among the ones “promised”, especially the Warden one, Portal one and Illusionary Elasticity (which would’ve improved my PvP build – yeah, a fix treated as a buff!). So the problem is not in being unaware, the problem is that the priority on those is low enough to stay untouched for that long of a time. And at the moment we have numerous game-breaking bugs from the megaserver system, which would in turn be overridden with new Living Story Season 2 bugs, and so on and so on until we get another feature patch in half a year.

I was originally very opposed to such an amount of dailies, but seeing the trend in the mix now, I can say that it feels really natural now – just play and most likely you’ll be at 4/5 or 5/5 before you even check the list. Heck, even Daily Feast now is a realistic 5 foods.

For once – thanks for the change! I never thought of dailies as a “challenge” but a “chore” instead, so having them naturally achieved now is a big plus for me and not “dumbing down” at all because IMO they should’ve been like this from the start.

But what if there were 4-5 more that were a ‘chore’ to do (I’d call them fun things to seek out and do, but I digress) like we had before?

You’d get your 5 done just by doing whatever else you do, and you can ignore the 4-5 more that are a ‘chore’.

Those of us who enjoy seeking out and doing the ones that are a ‘chore’ can.

Win/win?

How does having more impact you in that scenario?

No, I’m always ok with more options, as I would usually complete extra dailies if I found them fun. Just saying that it’s not as restrictive as I expected it to be.

Though it might be too good in ANet’s eyes if statistically too much dailies got completed, so that might’ve been a countermeasure. And there’re also achievement grinders who can’t control themselves… Again, just saying, as I’m always trying to see the full picture and not only things which affect me.

It reminds me of going to Disneyland. I see other people (mostly young) enjoying the costumed characters, the whimsical buildings and music, the overpriced junk food, the rides through fake environments filled with animatronic robots… and I’m just not entertained like they are. At some point in my life I just got too serious or too jaded or whatever to enjoy that kind of amusement. The few big roller coaster type thrill rides are all that interests me anymore, but the rest is just blah. That seems to be the same way some people experience the game. Maybe if you play enough games and see enough virtual worlds they lose their novelty after a while.

I’m the same with comedy shows – I know too much to even be amused in most cases.

Still, following your analogy… I like exploring the world and seeing wonders; but I want to do it when not ill, not hungry, not thirsty, not sleepy, in neat tidy clothes, with a decent camera and not in a hurry. And some people also feel like it. That’s all the difference

I’ve been wondering if that is a direct reaction to this thread or others like it. Unless the first few days were just a totally random coincidence, it appears Anet made a hasty change to the daily rotation and made semi-permanent the ones that are almost impossible to play and not get. The only reason I can think of for that is as a temporary fix until they add more variety and start the rotations again.

I was originally very opposed to such an amount of dailies, but seeing the trend in the mix now, I can say that it feels really natural now – just play and most likely you’ll be at 4/5 or 5/5 before you even check the list. Heck, even Daily Feast now is a realistic 5 foods.

if you aren’t having fun at that point in the game, how are you ever going to enjoy it?

Speaking from my experience: at level 80, once I have everything unlocked. At this point I’m looking on how to combine all traits and weapon skills to make it a fun and efficient playstyle instead of “I swung a sword, I swung a sword, hey, I swung a sword again!”. Everything before it feels like an obligatory waste of time before the real fun begins.

Say no to welfare 80s.

They didn’t go far enough with making players earn their toon, as far as I’m concerned.

Wait, GW2 was a job? Skritt, I thought it was a game…

Yes, even games must contain a degree of challenge. However, instead of a paycheck, you get to wear a smile on your face and be consumed by a warm fuzzy feeling all over.

When I finished crafting full ascended, I got a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling.

When I forged my last illusionary weapons and completed the look, I got a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling.

When I dragged my alt ele to level 80, I got a sigh of relief and a “Finally!” exclamation.

So, there are things I enjoy “grinding” for and things I don’t; crafting to 20 with boosters, 60 tomes of knowledge, 260 skill points and extra 26 gold for core and even not all traits are definitely among the latter.

Which is why Anet listened to the playerbase, added extra gear and then got raged upon.

Yeah, it’s outrageous to completely block all character builds behi… Oh wait, I love it because those +4.7% are optional while giving a sense of progression.

A car may be an effective way to get from Point A to Point B, but not a fun way.

A horse gallops and canters, a horse will jump over obstacles, a horse will also be a second set of eyes alert for danger. A Horse is a companion…. a car is a tool.

I’ve got enough of unreliable annoying “companions” in real life. I want a reliable tool which entertains me in exchange for money, and not decides to disallow me to use a part of it unless I buy it more hay, or leaves me without race rewards because doctors gave it something bad (when others asked them to be careful) and then left on their spring holidays.

The impression is, " the game really sucks Look at all the complainers." or…" everyone feels as I do, because Not many people are disagreeing with me."

Chances are…MOST of the people that feel like Marche are not On the forums posting, but on the game playing.

I’ll just leave this quote here:

Players who are satisfied rarely post about how satisfied they are. Forums generally represent a vocal minority.

Actually…. that’s a myth.

The people who post on the forums are the most passionate about the game. Good companies understand how customer feedback works and pay attention. Bad companies believe the myth and wonder why their customer base is shrinking.

I have to agree. I remember loving EverQuest. Anyone that hates ’ the grind" on Gw2…would literally fling EverQuest out the window. I think that there are some players that see play= grind. Unless what they are doing is " what I want to do."

Exactly, you got it! People are playing GW2 because it’s not some hardcore EverQuest; people have a job and a life and get a casual MMO to spend their evenings in a fun way doing what they like when they like without any subscription fee – and that’s what made the game popular. Introducing this change at this stage is wrong, because people who bought Game A now have to play Game B, or pay more money to convert to gold and unlock the ability to play their character.

Does it promote gold sink? Yes.

Does it encourage gem purchases? Yes.

Does it make more people play old content which has already been paid for instead of paying to design new content? Yes.

Is it a win-win? For the developer – yes. For a new player – no difference. For an old loyal customer – more of a post-buy rip-off.

Riding Horses IS more fun!

If you consider ever form of playing grinding then you shouldn’t play MMOs cause that’s how they are.

Playing any content I want to play with a character and leveling it is not grind.

Playing content that I do not want to be able to unlock traits for my characters is a grind.

Playing content that I do not want to be able to buy traits for my character is a grind.

Hey, did you notice we were talking not even about ascended mats locked behind specific content types and non-exchangeable for optional gear, but about basic character abilities known as traits?

There must be a line in “grinding”. For me, even gathering mats for full ascended was fun and not grind, because those +4.7% stats were optional, similar to how optional were the looks of illusionary forged weapons for me.

Are traits optional? No, they’re core features of any class, and having an 80-level Personal Story to unlock a Master trait is ridiculous, as ridiculous it is to pay 43 gold + 360 skill points for unlocking all traits.

People are saying that there’s no endgame; ANet’ve failed to deliver new persistent content, and now they’re trying to tell us that leveling is the new endgame – not by adding something new to leveling, but by making us play content which has been largely ignored. Can I agree with such a concept? No.

Maybe if we put our experiences of pre-patch gw2 aside, and try to see the game with new eyes, you may find it’s more fun? Just a thought.

If we forget how driving cars felt, maybe we may find riding horses is more fun?

So, many people use such things or rebind mousewheel/keys to mouseclicks, and I have never seen anyone being banned for it, but ANet clearly wants to avoid clarity here at any cost.

  • III: Complete level 59 Personal Story
  • IV: 100% completion in Dredgehaunt Cliffs (level 40-50)
  • V: 100% completion in Sparkfly Fen (level 55-65)
  • VI: 100% completion in Frostgorge Sound (level 70-80)

Only Trait II is in a level 30s zone.

Look at Trait VI: If you’re level 30-40, I’m not sure you can even do damage to mobs in Frostgorge Sound.

Mesmer doesn’t do enough damage at 80? squishy?
If the mesmer does know how to play, they would win a warrior quite easily.

Yesterday in EoTM me (a mes with Traveler’s +25% speed bonus and Blink) and a couple of other players chased a warrior for about a minute just to catch it, dent it and finally kill it when it just stood in a corner and didn’t try to run anymore.

I got my last not killed profession achievement yesterday, after a Deer and a half ranks, in 1v1 on a capped point after a decent fight; that profession was a warrior.

No, warriors are not a slightest bit overpowered.

Instead of grind you can grind WvW, grind Pvp, grind and craft, grind dungeons etc etc etc.

FTFY.

It is the players who are can’t accept a game where you can do different stuff, focusing on a specific kind of content to call it grind later on, blaming the company for it. If you want to grind, that’s your personal choice.

Current leveling is exactly a system which takes a player by the hand and makes it do what they wouldn’t have done otherwise because they didn’t find it fun.

And why didn’t they find it fun? Because in unlocking traits for an alt there’s nothing new. You’re opposed to these players, yet approving of the system which promotes it.

And there are people thinking that leveling is the best its been.

Probably those people who have to be officially forced to do the content to enjoy it because if they’re left with options, they seem to be forced to do everything in an easier way aka “efficiently” and cannot enjoy it if they can.

I remember leveling a mesmer (my main) pre-patch – hard and slow, but doable; the sylvari racial skills helped to survive a lot, as well as traits. I feel that my mesmer at 80 still either doesn’t do enough damage or is squishy even if it tries to squeeze a bit more of DPS.

I remember leveling an ele – I had to kite and kite and kite not to get killed by same level mobs, while skelks were virtually unkillable; getting some traits early on really helped. I just accepted it, grinded Tomes of Knowledge on my main and leveled it to start playing it. Now, equipped in primarily zerker gear, I still do not see a lvl 80 ele as a good DPS source (as generally regarded) despite it being extremely squishy.

I remember trying a war – and facerolling most mobs of 3-4 levels above me and dropping it because it’s boring. I also see warriors who melt their targets at 80, and I ask myself a serious question: WTF?!

So yes, since the only important class in this game doesn’t really need traits to be viable in PvE till level 30, having the game balanced around it doesn’t surprise me.

Will I be leveling my other alts? No thanks; I still can’t make myself finish map completion on my main, and actually spending time on the same content or grinded gold on acquiring traits is not my definition of fun.

i agree power block was op in bugged state..

By “OP” did you mean “worth taking at all and not totally useless against 1 extremely viable PvP class”?

Edited the first posts to include dev comments. Crossed out fixed bugs and skills which I as a player agree can be working as intended.

Added:

  • New info on 13. Warden’s Feedback trait.
  • 35. Outfits.
  • 36. GS1 damage indicator.

And here’s another 2 images of useful phantasms: me and a warden playing a staring game, and 3 phantasms not attacking the gate (no damage indicators from them at all).

Staff in PvE?

in Mesmer

I tried condi build with staff in PvE when I started the game because I really liked the idea.

Trust me – I suffered a lot with it: it took ages to kill anything, I couldn’t tag anyone in zergs and I contributed next to nothing in dungeons. Finally I gave up, rerolled a GS/Sw+F phantasm build and my life suddenly changed to better.

Our Community

I would speculate that the “Our Community is a Disappointment” to “Our Development is a Disappointment” thread ratio shows that at this moment we have more problems with Development than Community.

People have predicted the problems without even trying them out simply because those were predictable to anyone who played the game long enough. People got exactly these problems, plus more.

People have been promised good things and bugfixes. People got useless and post-PR-nerfed traits and next to no bugfixes, plus more bugs.

And when the patch hits, the feedback gets merged into megathreads with no dev in the main forum to answer any.

Why would people be happy? Why should they be happy?

You’ll need to talk to a Black Lion Armorsmith to get them back in their updated forms; those’re usually standing next to Black Lion Weapon Traders, but at the moment Black Lion Armorsmiths are claimed to be bugged so they’re temporarily disabled. Wait some time until they come back and you’ll receive your skins and toys again.

Sorry, but I think that your desire to see “mounts” at any cost cannot justify the lameness of 95% of Tyrian population always riding steam-powered skateboards.

That was just an example but it seems you don’t use imagination very often and like to be in the state of negativity “at any cost”

Sure, I’m running two webcomics of completely different styles and a photoblog written by a 15-cm robot, but I don’t use imagination very often.

No, it’s because I use imagination I can say that this will turn the game into more visual (and lore) mess than it currently is – with disco balls, confetti legendaries, bows shooting rainbows and unicorns, pink quaggan and llama finishers etc. etc. Brooms and sonic tunneling devices are toys – and they should stay as such instead of turning GW2 into a Pokemon-themed Hello Kitty online.

Dual spec
Outfitter style armor switching (where you can program sets in the ui and switch between them)

So basically it’s options

  • 41. Ability to tie several 1-handed weapon sets together for 1-click switching (e.g. sword+focus <→ staff), as well as having them in inventory always next to each other.
  • 43. Ability to tie armor sets together for 1-click switching.
  • 67. Trait templates.

combined. I’m not sure if it should be implemented though – it’s too much of automation IMO.

Cultural and Order armor and weapon vendors that only sell rare versions should have a separate tab that only sells the skin unlock for the items into the wardrobe. Costs of these should be balanced around the fact that you need transmutation charges to actually use them, as well as the actual gold cost that others have spent on the skins before.

Sorry, I do not think it’s a “feature”, I think it’s more of a “make everything cheaper” request. Selling skins in-game makes no sense – they’re selling armour to heroes of their order, and if you’re not satisfied with its quality, you should speak to the head tailor/weaponsmith of your order and advice them on grinding for ascended instead of doing their job in the order;)

Listed as 48. Option to AoE auto-loot everything automatically (AoE-loot-on-kill) instead of AoE-loot-on-constantly-spamming-interact-key-and-ressing-or-talking-to-NPCs-instead. in this feature list.

Tried another timer today – http://gw2.limitlessfx.com/ – that one is less visually appealing but has a “killed today” button. Most people won’t likely have a timespan for 2 same bosses anymore, but still a nice feature for weekend when you can hop in several times.

Being able to save trait builds

… store far less data inside templates when those happen.

THIS excites me Are we going to be able to store templates? That would really be a big big step!

No ETA on templates. However, the new build tech brings us muuuuch closer than before.

The background images are a nice addition.

Yeah it doesn’t use military time, perhaps I could add an option to toggle that on off as well. Thanks for the suggestions, I could easily add a clock as well :-)

In my country, we use 24 hour time instead of AM/PM system. So when I see 1:00 without AM/PM and not 13:00, it makes me wonder whether it’s a correct time or a -12 hours wrong timezone

Thanks! Exactly what I wanted someone to write until we finally get an event fairy

The best feature I can suggest is adding a selectable timezone which can be stored in cookies. EDIT: on the other hand, you mentioned it’s in “local time” already… Mine is showing as 8 o’clock though, not 20, so that was a bit confusing.

And current time displayed above the events, probably even as a scrolling timetables for better visualizing.

[Suggestion] More Language Filtering Options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Hi

I agree with OP : the new option, while reducing the issue in a nice quick fix, it not the best solution.
For example I speak both French and English, have my client set to French, and often reply to questions in map chat. My answers in English are going to be filtered, while they will be seen by French players who checked the option.

But I don’t think the OP solution is ideal either. Would have to change the “I usually speak in” option every time I write something.
Districts idea is completely wrong, won’t write a wall of text to explain why.

I understand that my solution will not fully solve the problem, but it will make a lot more sense. Using language dictionaries is really nice, but a) it requires resources and we all know that megaservers contribute a lot to cost-efficiency, b) there’s lots of players who make mistakes or use 1337. Using separate map channels does not look like an elegant solution to me either… So yes, the best option is to group each language on their own instances in the first place.

List of Mesmer Bugs (Older Thread)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

  • Fixed a bug that caused Mesmer clones to receive rune bonuses from their master.
  • Power Block: Fixed an issue that caused this trait to set skills with zero recharge on 10 second recharge; namely auto-attacks from creatures and players, as well as thief initiative abilities. This trait will no longer trigger through stun immunity effects such as Stability and Defiance.

Glad we have our priorities right.

And here’s a couple of attached pictures with yesterday’s useful Wardens standing on nearly flat terrain. I suggest we add a new skill to them when they’re not whirling – Stare to Death, which permanently stuns the target and slowly drains their health.

A new bug I started seeing after the patch on 15th. There are times where the circles above the weapon skills are filled signifying that there are illusions out but I know for a fact that they are not. Have seen this happen both in HotM and Arah. It’s the worst on lupi where I simply can’t tell if I have 3 illusions out or need to quickly generate more to optimize my reflect damage.

Now I can’t even trust my UI while playing which is crucial to mesmers. I’m not an ANet developer so the best solution I can recommend is to hire a real Q/A team. The amount of bugs I’m seeing is beyond my belief.

We’ll need a video or screenshot for that, I think… Will try to take an eye on it.

Didn’t notice anyone mention it yet, but I have experienced my original clones not attacking since last patch, eg GS #2 clone not attacking, same goes if I use mirror images

From what I know this is happening when you are attacking an summoned enemy and the “owner” of that summon is out of your range.
But if the “owner” is in range and are following and attacking you, the clones will attack the summoned enemy if I directly target the summon.

Could also add that the clones don’t play any animations in this state and using a shatter skill will only make them go boom, making me waist skills

Hopefully the attached image will tell a bit more what I mean

Sounds very similar to #10. Phantasms and enemy pets/mobs, but in more details.
