What about 20 skill points for characters beyond level 20?
This is my Sylvari Mesmer, Maharet Masika (Maharet was a name I liked from the Anne Rice novels and I found out that it means “daughter of the Earth” and Masika, a name I found earlier, means “born in the rain”).
I went for a more earthen, green, forest type look. Cultural tier 2 is the only set that shows my skin pattern (with the hands and feet going darker). The Mask is the Queen’s Mask from the gem store transmuted onto the TA head (now all I need to do is finish the TA set).
All your Sylvari look great, hope you like mine
Edit: I chose blue for her eyes for the impression that water is running through her veins

Norn do seem to have by far the best options in terms of armor. At least they seem to have the most options in terms of variety. Men and women can be fully covered or showing their tattoos
And the art on them is just amazing. I dunno… I love Norn armor in general. I just wish there were even more of it :P
Thanks a lot for the great ideas!
@Nike That set looks great on your warrior! It works really well with her face tattoos.
@Brienson, That’s one of the neater mixed armor combinations I’ve seen! I definitely would not have thought of that. The boots work really well with the legs. So I think it’s basically set that I’ll use T1 boots and T3 legs now…
I might still stick with the T3 chest piece though like colesy. I’ll have to compare the T2 and T3 chest pieces though with boots and probably some gloves/shoulders
Though the gloves and shoulders don’t matter too much since I can hide them.
To be fair, you do have awhile to choose order facility. And race.. well… that’s too ingrained into the personal story to change. At least now if you make a new char (even if you delete an old one) if you’ve been around for a year or gotten to 5k achievement points you can level it straight to 20.
You can’t spawn them outside of combat so…. you couldn’t scout with them.
Also, that would be way too confusing. Plus, you couldn’t keep track of your other clones while in that mode well either. And your own character useless. The only thing it could do is confuse others on which is the “real mesmer” as it would behave weirdly for a clone so long as the “real mesmer” acts like a clone…. But I’m too dependent on a clone, shatter type skill set for that to be of any real use to me.
In short, it would be neat, but… too many complications. I’d really like to see clones with off-hand weapons!!!
I like it. If I were to suggest an improvement, I’d say make the “wings” have slightly more of a green tint. But that’s just me.
How about earthen? Or go for an icy sort of look? Or combine the two for a “frosted” look?
Hmm… it is a very similar set. I’m not too into the skulls ‘n bonesy look of the head/shoulders/gloves though. And I’m just not sold on the torn look of the set. The boots are worth looking into matching with another set though. HotW does look great and “Norny” but I won’t be able see the tattoos (probably something I’ll end up getting for her)… I like CT2’s chest plate.
I have a Norn Warrior with red tribal-style tattoos (the linear ones). Her hair is deep, dark, red in a pony-tail. She also has the scuffed up face and the middle muscular build (though I’m thinking about changing her to the bigger build later).
I really like the T3 cultural outfit. But I don’t want to pay 100g+ for. But I would be willing to pay for a couple of the pieces. I’d like to show off her tattoos in a Norn, NOT roman way. It’s so hard to find a good armor set that’s both revealing and not romanesque for warriors. T2’s a bit too romanesque for me. T3 actually looks “norny.” T1 is “norny” but 100% covered. Yes, I’m a female, who wants to show off my character’s awesome, intimidating physique and tattoos!! (but I want my human 100% covered ’cause they look awful)
Maybe the Vigil armor with different legs, gloves, hat, and boots or would that look funny? Maybe boots, gloves, legs, and hat could come from Norn cultural? Though the hat is less of an issue as she has an awesome ponytail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
If you don’t mind, post pictures of your suggestions! My armor preview is quirky, so it would be appreciated

I’m less than 50 points away from 5k achievement points and I haven’t felt motivated to go into the game to actually play it for about a week now because I know I’ll have to spend minimally an hour in the game to get 1/13th of an achievement and school has started. The reward is the best ever IMO, but I just can’t bring myself to spend that much time in-game for just 1/17th of the meta-achievement. Yes, I could do one event a day, that would be one hour a day, but that’s even necessarily not even all that feasible on some days, particularly weekdays. Even so, I could get disconnected! And then spending that hour in-game would have been pointless, unfun, and demotivating with no progress made.
A couple guildies were eager to try out the new content… until the Queen’s Gauntlet came around. Then they (and I) got tired of GW2. It was way too much kill x and y and way too fast-paced. Can’t we go back to the monthly system where I can spend time in-game doing the Living Story content for a couple of weeks and doing the other stuff in the game I want to for the other two weeks? My guildies and I haven’t gone back to personal stories ever since the Living Story pace picked up. Because LS is temporary and personal story is permanent. It discourages doing permanent content and encourages doing transient content all the time.
I want a break from the Living Story! I want to go back to fighting dragons! I haven’t finished one character’s personal story and I have 2 level 80s and one level 40 and have been playing the game since beta. I’d like to do dungeons. But I feel like I don’t have the time because I want to experience the new content but it takes me the whole two weeks to finish it, then there’s newer content. Yes, I know you can finish the achievements in about a month, as you can still do the old achievements, but it just bogs you down more. And right now you can’t do the old achievements until you do the new ones. Which is a really really bad move, IMO. What if someone wants to finish the old content before doing the new content and they just didn’t have the time to do so in two weeks?
And please, be more creative with achievements! The Bazaar was by far the best in terms of variety! If more LS had that kind of variety, that would be awesome!
It being classified as either work or play is irrelevant. The key detail is that it seems that people aren’t having fun in a game. And games are supposed to be fun!
Edit: I realize I don’t have to do the living story… but it’s transient! I have to at least try it out! And the LS ideas are generally just good enough or the reward good enough that I’d like to get the reward or play them. And if I’m “burned out” of Living Story, then that means I’m burnt out of Guild Wars 2, which means less playtime from me.
(edited by Lorelei.7809)
1. People can and will get disconnected in them. I know someone who keeps getting disconnected during these events and can’t get the achievements.
1a. This causes a problem if they want achievements as you have to do multiple
2. Doing multiples of these events takes way too long.
3. You’re already killing so many of x and y that spending time in 45 minute long events is a drag. Particularly, as I hear, they don’t have a meaningful impact on the world (haven’t done them, but know someone who has – I don’t have the time to do them but I got the meta achievement for the past few living stories).
4. You have to wait for them to appear and you have to be there within the first 10 minutes and stay until the very end so in-game time may need to be considerably longer than an hour.
If we have 45 minute events can’t we just have them in one location and only have to complete one of them for achievements? Now that the school year’s starting for many, it’s an awkward time to be asking for even more time dedicated to the game. Before you could go in for just 10 minutes here and there and eventually get the achievements. Now, you’re expected to stay in the game for a full 45 minutes just for one thing. In the end, however, you end up spending the same amount of time in-game. So why not let it be a bit more flexible? I thought part of the style of Guild Wars was to let people hop in and out so that they’d actually dedicate more time than they normally would to a game because they could go into it for ten to thirty minutes and make some progress. Everyone has a few minutes they can spare in a day.
Can we have a system like the one for dungeons for other instances? For example, personal story and Living Story instances? Also… it would be nice if it could be worked out for these 45 minute long events. This way, people who get disconnected can return to the content without having to worry about not finishing said content.
why not have multiple events in multiple maps? This way even though you get zergs in each map, people are spread out across the game world and the zergs aren’t as bad. And then that would draw people into multiple maps at the same time, with the game having less of an empty feeling if you’re out in a map without a Living Story event going on or whatever.
That would be fantastic. It would also draw you into your home, and be able to show off to your friends what you accomplished in Living Stories. Kind of a “hall of monuments” type instance from GW.
I’d love Living Story content that drew people a) into their home instance like Belcher’s Bluff and the quartz node and b) just drew people into racial capitals in general (and hopefully more permanently than is seeming to be with the Queen’s Jubilee). The racial capitals are so empty…. And the Grove has absolutely nothing to it to draw people in (other than the story, cultural weapons/armor for Sylvari), nor hints of future stuff (ie Polymock for the Asura).
IMO, the stories of GW1 were not that well written out until Nightfall and Eye of the North. Betrayal is good in a story… once. But not Betrayal, then Betrayal, then Betrayal, then more Betrayal! It was hard to keep up with prophecies due to the betrayals and felt jumpy due to that. Just because they were dark… doesn’t mean they were well-written. I’m hoping GW2’s story improves over time like it did in GW1. In GW2 the best-written parts of the story are the beginning stories that we could test in beta. It seems to drag on towards the end. Also, I feel that perhaps Sylvari should have had Trahearne as a fellow Wyld Hunt Valiant and that other races should have had different buddies performing different functions (maybe Trahearne cleans up Orr still, but the Asura buddy started building up Orr again, etc). As a Sylvari, I liked having Trahearne on my team. It felt like he was my peer and it just made sense for us to team up as we were doing two Wyld Hunts that fit well together.
Quite obviously since the last two LS villains are Sylvari and since the Nightmare Court exists, Sylvari aren’t “pure and innocent and goody-two-shoes.” And please, can’t we have a villain that’s not a Sylvari or a Mesmer?! Unfortunately it seems that they like to reuse plotlines and similar villains.
I’d like to see some darker stories involving the human politics and human/Charr relations. I really liked the Ghosts of Ascalon book exploring that side. I also would’ve thought it would’ve been more likely for a Charr to plan an assassination attempt since the queen showed the Charr as “one of the enemies” of the human people in the opening ceremony with logan. And since Anise made it Rytlock. Also, the tension between the humans and the Charr goes all the way back to GW1 and can potentially make some great Living Stories, either overcoming it or showing the darker side thereof.
In the end, I don’t think it’s the farming that actually miffs people. I think it’s the sheer lack of other things to do with the update. It seems to be tailor made for people with multiple level 80s who are going for a legendary (and you need at least 1 level 50+ just to get the balloon) with gaming rigs (it’s a slide-show in the pavilion for me and my graphics aren’t up to snuff for the arena). Basically, it alienates a lot of people.
IMO, the Bazaar was by far the best designed update as it had content for anyone who wanted to play to enjoy. People who like mini-games (Belcher’s Bluff, Southsun Survival), people who like racing mini-games (Sanctum Sprint), people who like team-based mini games (Aspect Arena), people who like high-level content (the candidate trials), people who like jumping puzzles (sky crystal gathering and the diving goggles), people who like doing events (the sheer number of events in there was crazy), etc.
I don’t think we need to go further than champion skins…. and I think the dungeon skins at a vendor are much nicer than the system in GW1.
Major things missing for me:
Guild Halls
Wardrobe
Search in TP by armor type, for back pieces, and for skins
More NPC armor options for our characters (ie Norn Shaman armor, more leafy armor for Sylvari)
And please, please, let us be able to use Gem Store skins on more than one character! I would consider buying a lot more from the Gem Store if that were the case. Though TBH the only thing I’ve liked (and it’s the only thing I’ve bought) has been the Queen’s Masque. The masques were neat.
<snip>
1) Dragon Ball Arena: <snip>Each mini-game should have its own achievements to complete, separately, unrelated to any living story.
Thankfully, they’ve started doing that.
2) Open the chests near 30 “UNIQUE” (you forgot to mention that, didn’t you?) balloons. This means that a new player should rush their way to level 60-70 to have access in all the maps, since there are only two balloons in each map. So technically you say to the new players this way, level up within 2 weeks or you will never complete the achievement.
At least they should let the balloons reset each day. You can get 10 from beginning areas. It would take 3 days for newbies to get them for the balloon. Which isn’t that bad at all as opposed to being forced to level quickly. TBH their content this time focused much much more on the experienced and active player than it did the majority of their playerbase: the casuals (just look at achievement point leaderboards to see that).
3) Kill 300 holographic monsters. <snip>
can generally be avoided though (if I recall correctly I either avoided that achievement or didn’t need it or just got it by roaming through the world – obviously it wasn’t impressionable on me). I also hope they slow down on the Kill x number of y soon. That’s the biggest problem with the Queen’s Jubilee. All it is is kill x 100 times representing y! Plus the balloons.
4) The part when we needed to kill 250 Aetherblade enemies <snip>.
Who even are these Aetherblades? Why are they even here? I apparently missed the memo. Either way…. again… be more creative, like the Bazaar achievements and the balloons (and the balloons could use some updating too, as I mentioned before)!
5) Adding Living Story content within the maps of World Vs. World. Not much to say, highly counter-productive and a huge mistake to mix PvE content with WvW.
I see what they’re trying to do… get more people into WvW… but it just ends up being a bad experience for the PvE person trying to get an LS achievement and for the WvW person going about the fight. You don’t want people drawn in just to chase down map points or LS achievements – they end up having a bad experience and they often hurt, not help, their team. I’m just not sure what could help in that sense. To draw people into it that normally wouldn’t be drawn into it and then potentially decide they like it. If you aren’t a WvW person… you’re just not going to be one very likely.
6) Similarly to the above mentioned issue of the extreme time-consumption of some living story achievements, the “Launch 100 fireworks”, “Pummel 150 pinatas”, “Light 50 effigies”, were just too much. Such achievements should require less time to be completed, and not be annoyingly repetitive like those older ones were.
I wasn’t there for Dragon Bash so I can’t really comment, but yeah, that seems really really annoying.
My biggest miff about the Gauntlet is that it really alienates and discourages trying it if you only have one level 80 and like alts (and it really alienates people without a level 80!). It really should’ve been a PvP instance where it’s not a gold sink to repair armor AND waypoint after every single loss. Plus you’ll want to retrait(which is free in PvP)! And you could go on alts and go into spectator mode in a PvP instance. Plus, the graphics wouldn’t kill a lot of computers as it would be an instance. It also alienates people without gaming rigs (which is a whole LOT of your populace). Everyone would have an even playing field and obviously even people with level 80s and full exotic gear are having trouble with the final boss so just imagine the trouble for sidekicked up characters. Either way, it would still be difficult (they could in fact push up the difficulty), and everyone would have a fair chance. Plus, that would get people into the Mists. And attract them in a fun, positive manner unlike how they’ve been trying to with WvW.

Personally…. I’d like to see one with a good Sylvari and a good Mesmer (the Queen doesn’t count – half the people blame her for Logan’s failure with the dragon, splitting up Destiny’s Edge – I don’t blame her, but nonetheless, she’s to an extent debatable). I’m getting annoyed with every bad guy being a Mesmer and/or Sylvari (Canach) – and don’t say that Trahearne’s good because most people are annoyed with him for stealing their thunder.
If you look at aligning, Trahearne is a ‘good character’. This doesn’t change if people dislike him. (Or his accent.)
I do agree on the mesmer-thing. A lot of bad guys are mesmers. Of course it is easy to write mesmer-magic as bad-guy magic but it’s a bit one-dimensional to me.
I mainly mean that Trahearne actually hurt Sylvari rep though he was good (WHY did ArenaNet not learn from Kormir in GW1?! Hopefully they learn this time…). We need someone who will give us some positive rep. And the LS Sylvari are bad guys. And how come all good Sylvari are necromancers? Killeen, Trahearne?
But yeah, it felt like during the last 30 storylines all foes were Mesmers. As a Sylvari Mesmer main, I’m feeling a bit… villainized. It annoys me a bit.

I think they said they didn’t want specific profession quests as they wanted everyone to be able to participate in all the content. Perhaps it would be neat to have “profession training” though.
Basically, though… my problem with this LS is that there isn’t enough variety in things to do – as it is, for the most part, “kill things!”. Perhaps the Bazaar set my bar up too high as there were so many options for all kinds of players’ likes and dislikes. The Bazaar was absolutely amazing in terms of content options though. I hope that future Living Stories/content go along the lines of the Bazaar. The Bazaar even had great recipes and meta award that let you get the material for said recipes when the Bazaar isn’t going on! Normally I really really dislike the recipes given out during Living Stories as the mats aren’t permanently available so you only have so many after the event’s finished with no way to gain them again until the next year when the event comes back. And I hope that future permanent content is more like the wallet (Jubilee), achievement point rewards(again, from the Bazaar), champ/dungeon rewards (Jubilee). Hopefully we will get Guild Halls and a skin management type system more like the achievement skins for Gem Store skins and others.
Yes! They also already have the models for the shaman armor… They also have town clothes that aren’t available for other races, too….
Also, there really should be something for that character creation aspect that doesn’t get discussed period in game. Like the animal spirit, the cycle for sylvari, human deities, college, and the charr… (I’m not sure what doesn’t get discussed with them in story?)
Oh… and Countess Anise’s outfit… would be a fantastic one to add!
(edited by Lorelei.7809)
TBH, I just find this Living Story content bland bland bland. All you do is kill, kill, kill, farm, farm, farm, fight, fight fight (with potentially characters that are underleveled for the area/fights). The only thing remotely interesting to me are the random champions you fight to get balloons, along with the balloon events and the balloon you get. Which, is interesting enough, but by far not half as cool as anything in the Bazaar. And you’re forced to do dailies to get the meta achievement and most of them are kill, kill, kill. Who really wants to kill 600+ things just to get achievements? Over half the LS achievements require killing x number of x things representing y. Not fun. And the other achievements tend to be fairly bland (besides the balloons, which you can’t get the achievement for if you don’t have a level 30+ character). Can’t there be more interesting achievement points like there were in the Bazaar? Plus, they’re not exactly easy kills, particularly due to performance issues. But their new permanent stuff like champ rewards, dungeon rewards, and the wallet are fantastic!
Another problem: The achievements. I think that representing the different groups is cool and awesome. And the balloon one was kind of neat. But the majority of achievements for the Jubilee are kill 100 x while representing y. 8/13 under the living world category are that and now the latest two dailies are kill 50 x while representing y. What gives? The reason this is annoying: Killing 50 things isn’t that bad, but killing 50 veterans in an overcrowded area with poor computer performance is bad – and also really really boring. Also, one of the achievements is doing events in that area. Which are boring as they’re just zergs with poor computer performance and armor breaking. And the Gauntlet well…. it’s just frustrating for me so I’ve just relegated myself to the Jubilee achievement. It’s feeling like a grind to get this achievement.
With the Bazaar I got the meta achievement with hardly even noticing (I was just having fun with all the content) and the Belcher’s Bluff achievements with some tries and enjoyed it all. It was an amazing event. I also loved Aspect Arena. And, I liked that I got something for my home instance… to draw me into my home instance each day (the quartz). Along with the Belcher’s Bluff bosses to be in there. There needs to be more stuff in the home instance.
The Bazaar was the best living story yet and this one, IMO is the worst designed yet. It’s just… so bland. So far the only thing interesting about it is the awesomely cool building and Braham and Rox coming back in the story instance which you can only see once at the very beginning of the event.
Why not make it a PvP instance? That way, people could actually play on their low-level alts and use appropriate alts for appropriate bosses. It’s still difficult with a level 80 char with full exotic gear. And some professions are better than others. Also, you can’t freely re-trait your character in PvE, as you can in PvP, which would also help to beat these bosses. And, it being an instance wouldn’t kill graphics cards as much, which is important as it’s a timed thing. Plus, they soulbind tickets to your low-level alts so, obviously alts were intended to be used, but giving them to level 2s, as-is, is a waste.
The problem with this is they don’t level you up to 80 with all skills and good gear in there ie PvP. Otherwise it would be fine being soulbound to your alts. And I only have three characters with elites. Poor gear is punished, also. You’ll just die on your low-level alts.
No. They’re casters and they should only “dabble” in the pistol category. Also, then there would be three professions with 2 pistols which would mean there would be more professions with dual pistols than there would be with a shortbow, longbow, and rifle. The Mesmer’s Magic Bullet already overlaps too much with the thief’s IMO (it was even called Trick Shot at first). But I’m not sure what new weapons would be good if they were to add weapons >_>
I wish T1 didn’t have the skulls on it or else I’d suggest that. But I suppose you could not get the shoulder piece which is the skull? You don’t need to get shoulders since you can turn them off… TBH I’d suggest the Raven NPC set that they don’t let us use >_> Out of HoTW, though it looks great, I’d vote for Priory to go with T3 (I like priory armor too).
I am indeed aware of Cider/Cedega. And yes, it isn’t a great client, but at least they have official support, even if hardly anything can be done. I was thinking they could work with/officially support Codeweavers/Crossover as an option if they wanted to do something similar to the Mac client – unless I misunderstand. This way, though, there would be official support (though not a native port, better than the nothing they give us now).
I’d be up for a Linux guild. Though, I suppose it still would be a bit awkward with guesting, but everyone would still be on the roster.
As far as noise goes, I think particularly in an MMO, Linux gamers would be an asset as, if given official support, would be much more willing to log in consistently and consistently buy from the Gem Store and advertise the game to our friends. Linux fans – are a very passionate bunch, and having that passion on your side is a very good thing indeed.
I actually 100% agree about a Cedega port. When running the game on WINE, the FPS is bad, but I expected that. The textures don’t update, but I also expected that from playing years of GW1 on WINE. I did, however, expect the gem store to load. I also expected my camera to be able to rotate freely. Honestly, those two bugs are almost game-breaking for me. Because the gem store / trading post does not load under a new version of WINE (and I keep making the mistake of pulling WINE from my official repos), I cannot sell all the rare items I will not use but are in my inventory anyway. Because my camera catches at a random angle every time I right click, I cannot do most jumping puzzles (easily). I am sure if we had a cedega port, those issues would be addressed and fixed—along with the texture bug (hopefully). Also, if we could increase the FPS only a little, I might be able to actually enjoy the latest content rather than read the reviews from other individuals.
The only issue I have is armor preview not working fully – I can only preview one piece of armor at a time (texture issue) and I’m running it under PlayOnLinux with their patched wine version specifically for GW2. My FPS is either the same or faster than was on my Windows partition. The Gem Store loads, it runs smoothly for jumping puzzles, etc. The only problem I’ve had is it crashing every once in awhile (particularly on my older-spec’d computer).
As far as the guild is concerned, I don’t think it would be that big of a deal. Because this game allows players to be a part of more than one guild at a time, we would really only be asking that one of their characters joins the guild, which isn’t too much to ask. With guesting, we can probably make it work well enough.
A few points I cannot help but reiterate:
-Linux gamers would definitely support Anet if they supported linux. I believe Guild Wars 2 would be one of the first AAA MMO’s to support linux, if they chose to do so.
-Anet must be proactive about this. The switch to linux will not be as big of a deal if another company has already done it first.
-The reason linux gaming is not a big deal is because companies continue to ignore linux gamers. If a handful of important companies were to support the OS, there would definitely be an increase in the number of linux players out there. This is why linux gamers amount to ~2% of steam gamers. Our only real AAA game to play is DOTA2 and that game is quite frankly difficult to get into (for me, anyway).
Anyway, those were my two cents. If you add them all together, I’ve probably donated a full dollar to this thread, alone.
-Leios
Agreed.

You don’t get half as much of the new currencies as the standard ones, though (so there is less of a reason to include them). But yes, they are a problem.
I don’t know, I usually end up with stacks and stacks of event currency, but never with stacks and stacks of laurels or dungeon tokens…?
Interesting. I intend on getting stacks of dungeon currency for armor/weapons (already halfway to a stack in three currencies and barely started dungeons), but I can hardly get 10 of some event currencies (kite fortunes and those other fortune thingies that I only ever got one of). And I hardly ever reach a stack of event currencies. But that’s just a difference in the way you and I play
Maybe there can be something done with them.
It’s probably a fair bit complicated for them to fit into the game as it’s already been running for awhile. I’m hoping that the wallet and the achievement skins are good signs though.
1. Since I use a lot of alts, this feature is actually useful for me. But maybe they should let you deposit a portion of it in your bank and have universal character access for the rest.
2. If you can buy something with them, then yeah, they should be included, so I agree.
3. Eh, redundancy’s no big deal. The wallet is FAR better than the prior system so that’s a very minor issue to me.
4. It is a tab below the inventory. And it’s in the Hero window. I like options, so I’d like to keep them. You don’t need to go to the Hero tab if you don’t want to. I also like how it effectively shows what level you need to be for the dungeons on lower-level characters in currencies that you don’t have yet in the Hero panel.
You don’t get half as much of the new currencies as the standard ones, though (so there is less of a reason to include them). But yes, they are a problem.
Please no. The original is bad and was a huge let down .. but that purple monstrosity is even worse ..
(it’s all just a matter of opinion)
The OP’s just talking about using the same smoky effect from purple thing for the Fellblade. NOT making it purple.
I’m just considering getting “the purple monstrosity” for my Mesmer.
btw: you’re getting off-topic by talking about scanning.
(edited by Lorelei.7809)
Agreed. Seeing a reskin of a HoM supposedly unique design being introduced to the game is bad enough. Seeing that this reskin is actually done way better than the original is adding insult to the injury.
I 100% agree! With both you and the OP
How do you get the purple sword anyway? It would look good for my Mesmer.
Maybe let a few crystals (of the level 80 kind) be an achievement chest reward? That way, people won’t be forced to buy them – they’ll just have fewer. They are, though, giving us 400 gems at 5000 point increments and makeover kits (from what I can tell), so… we can spend some of those gems on them if we want.
I am all for dailies that encourage people into high level zones, but thats because I have a host of level 80s to choose from.
I think this would be a bit unfair on new players though who would not even have the option to complete these dailies if they chose to.
That’s why I said “your level or above”. This would mean that if you only have a level 1, you can do level 1 or above events. On the other hand, if your lowest level is 20, you’ll need to do a level 20+ event. TBH, event mentor discriminates more than this idea. You need to have at least a level 3 character to qualify for “event mentor” as the lowest-level possible events in the level 1-15 areas are level 2 (and there are very few level 2 events – there are only 3 in Wayfarer Foothills, which is fewer than required for Event Mentor). Basically, your options are limited when you just start the game to get event mentor, but this idea would not limit you; instead it would reward you for going to appropriate-level areas.
It would also encourage gathering in awkward-level places that there tend to be more of a shortage of mats (T2-T4 mats seem to be the most scarce, particularly T2-T3) as you’d be there for events. And, there would be more people in such areas to help out with those said events/group events.
Wouldn’t that go completely against the whole idea of the underleveling system?… One of the big things advertised from the game from the beggining was that as you leveled up, the world opened op to you instead of closing down like in other games, where once you reach level cap, for example, you either play in one or two level capped areas or you overpower the area and all loot and rewards are useless for you.
That’s why Event Mentor exists. But there is a problem with getting people into level 20-60 areas, particularly 20-40. There are tons of events in Orr and tons of them in level 1-15 areas, but not as many in the levels/areas in between.
The idea was just to have one which encouraged your level or higher areas, and the other encouraged lower level. For Balance! But I’m doubting it would still solve the “awkward-level” areas, though it would certainly help.
I have a bad habit of sticking around the lower-level areas because they’re less expensive to travel to and they get me my dailies the most easily. Even on my level 80 chars. I’m also slower to level up because I barely venture out of the level 1-15 areas because they get me so much experience with all the events.
Definitely. Particularly if I’m spending 119g on a T3 set or buying a set from the Gem Store, I’d like to be able to store it and bring it out (which, is another reason T3 should perhaps be skins). IMO it was a basic functionality that GW1 had that GW2 doesn’t have. I’m hoping that the amazing achievement skin system, the wallet, and permanent finishers are positive indicators that we’ll get something like it for Gem Store skins etc.

Unfortunately, the Mac port is not very well maintained (from my understanding). In addition, they used a Transgaming program called Cider to do it. You may or may not recognize Cider’s older brother, Cedega, which specializes in making linux ports of Windows games. It’s the same deal. Anet had/has very little actual control over the port, itself.
Outside of that, though, I agree. It would certainly be profitable for Anet to at least consider porting to linux.
Honestly, though, I don’t know what the linux community expects. There are still very few of us and no matter how much noise we make, that fact won’t change until AAA developers start developing for us. However, because there are so few of us, AAA developers do not think it is economically viable to port to linux in the first place.
I really think our best bet at getting Anet to recognize linux is to create a linux guild for linux users and linux supporters. Because you are allowed to join more than one guild, this shouldn’t be that big of a deal. If we become important or become known in the community, maybe players will start turning their heads.
Thanks for reading,
Leios
I’d be up for a Linux guild. Though, I suppose it still would be a bit awkward with guesting, but everyone would still be on the roster.
As far as noise goes, I think particularly in an MMO, Linux gamers would be an asset as, if given official support, would be much more willing to log in consistently and consistently buy from the Gem Store and advertise the game to our friends. Linux fans – are a very passionate bunch, and having that passion on your side is a very good thing indeed.
Event mentor encourages going in low-level areas – so maybe there should be one that says to play events your level or above?
Yes! I like looking on TP to preview armor skins and it annoys me as it’s hard for me to sort through the different armor types. If you search by name (like chest, for heavy), that name isn’t used for all heavy armor chest pieces so you’ll have some that you missed. Plus, it would just tidy up the TP when searching for armor.
It would only have positive effects for people who already bought it also. Particularly if it just became skins (as some will have already transmuted their rares to exotics) – though people who have already transmuted should probably get Tstones in return. But honestly, if people had already transmuted their T3 with crystals and they were upgraded to exotic, rather than skins, then maybe if someone has T3 pieces they should get as many transmutation crystals as they have pieces of T3 (as I would assume that most have already used the crystals for the stats). That way, they could make them exotic without problems, either. It would be a win for everyone, either way. And I’d be much more willing to get up 119 gold for it (I love two T3 sets but can’t bring myself to go for them since they don’t give me any real benefit besides looks and I’d need to buy tstones).
Actually once per week is a good compromise. As, only on the weekends I’d want to do dungeons. And only on particular days would I want to do stories. And so on. It is rare that they coincide with the dailies, which annoys me a bit. Either give us all the options for dailies every day of the week (and require you to do 5 of them, as is the case now) or 7 “dailies” that need to be finished by the end of the week in any order. And honestly, just add more variety to dailies. I’ve gotten annoyed with PvE dailies so I’ve started doing PvP dailies. I used to do PvE ones a lot, and even monthlies, but PvP ones are so much less annoying and you don’t have to do the same content over and over again.
It shouldn’t matter what people do that day, it should just matter that they logged in and played.
Well, there are vast expanses of Tyria gone untouched – the Maguuma Wastes, the Crystal Desert, etc. But I suppose that depends on what the expansions are going to be.
My deal with this is that as they have a Mac “Client” (I use quotes as it is not a native port, but an emulation) and “support” (as it’s being done by another company, they cannot directly affect issues with it), why not do the same for Linux?
My mentality is that if someone can do something for Mac, they can do it for Linux very easily. If it’s Windows-only, it’s one thing. But since Mac and Linux are so similar, it’s silly to be Windows/Mac only these days (particularly since the Mac “port” isn’t native).
It actually runs better on Linux for me (through wine!) than it does in Windows and I don’t have the specs to run the Mac “client” to even test it out.
So… either a native port or at least do what was done for the Mac community for the Linux community. Plus, you’ll probably get a lot more money out of Linux users if you support them. They’ll buy more from the Gem Store as soon as there’s word of official support. I know I’d be more willing.
If you look at humble bundle’s pie charts, every single time the Linux users donate more money on average. Even if it’s a Windows-only game for the idea of ports. But, when there is a game with a linux version, they become both a higher percentage and the highest donating group on average. From what I’ve seen, projects seem to get a burst of money once Linux support is mentioned – and then the Linux community will be long-term fans/advertisers/buyers so long as support is kept up.
I would rather have a slower pace of new content (I could hardly keep up with monthly releases, but now two weeks?! either way…), but have Guild Halls/Alliances come with it (and a skin management system like the festival hat and costume NPCs in GW!).
Exotic or skins, I 100% – agree at least for T3 (perhaps keep T1 and T2 as they are).
Also, T3 is just as hard, if not arguably harder, to obtain than dungeon armor. Either way, it’s on par in terms of earning, but it’s rare and requires Transmutation Crystals to get good stats on it – and you need to buy those transmutation crystals with real $ or in game gold to get the gems to get the crystals (which is A LOT of in-game gold). So if you take that into account, the cost is much higher for T3 armor than it is for dungeon sets, with an on-par workload to obtain it and it’s not even exotic (or a skin), which seems absurd.
On the other hand, why can’t we have less skimpy light armor?
Why can’t we have more majestic wizard-robes that don’t feel the need to always expose legs or chest?I think this post really points out the issues there. The variety is lacking.
For me personally, skimpy isn’t inherently bad. However, skimpy + lame = tacky, which is terrible.
I entirely agree. I really don’t like the Masquerade set. It looks like a stylish mesmer set from GW1 was mauled by a bear and now she’s showing her undergarments. Please, can we let back in GW1-Mesmer-style armor sets?
And yes, I’m looking at those silly robes that are like buttcapes and focus on exposing tons of chest and legs for no reason other than to show skin. When you draw attention like that, it serves no other reason than to demean. It’s the kind of stuff that no sane character should be caught wearing, dead or alive even if it gave 1000% magic find. Might as well fight in their underwear. :/
Again, I’d love to see GW1-Mesmer-style caster gear in GW2. It’s stylish, yet not skimpy. It’s pretty, but not silly or too frilly. I’d also like tasteful showing of skin like the Raven Shaman set (that you can’t get
) or some Sylvari NPC sets or the T2 Sylvari caster set. I’d like a medium Sylvari-esque set to show off my character’s pattern that I worked awhile on and based my character’s name off of. She has a “frosted” look that you can’t see at all in the cultural or nightmare sets except for perhaps the T1 set, but I’m not terribly fond of that set. I’d like some options. And I’m not terribly fond of the placement of showing of skin in the T1 set (I think it’s T1) and I’m not terribly fond of the “skin tight leaves” look. I like seeing the back of my characters (particularly with the two different back “spine” options for Sylvari), my characters’ arms (to show the frosted-ness of her skin below her head), maybe some leg, maybe not, maaaybe some midriff if done tastefully. I LOVE that you can see my Sylvari’s feet in T2 caster gear. I am SO glad I made my sylvari with that skin pattern a caster or I would have been annoyed as people would not have been able to see her pattern at all with a leafy set or even a regular set (no other set is “barefoot”).
On the opposite side, we have heavy armor that covers one’s character up so badly that it’s hard to even distinguish them apart (and thus making most of character customization worthless) and makes you look really stupid looking in town or underwater. I pretty much despise all the helms. Or you can have some chainmail underwear. :/
tl;dr I want my characters to look good, and not have to look like a underwear model to accomplish it.
I entirely agree. I made a Norn Warrior and I’d like to show off her tattoos. But it’s hard to find good armor to look good and “Norny” while showing off her tattoos besides the 119g T3 set (and I don’t think I want to spend that on an armor set – I haven’t had more than 22g at a time). On the helms thing… can we have helms like the icelord diadem and baroque masque from the HoM that don’t obscure ponytails/hair? Of course, for my Warrior I’d like something more mask-like but less “girly”. I always have my helm unchecked for a reason and I would really like to have it checked sometimes as I’d have worked to earn the armor set. The only helm I find really awesome is the T3 Sylvari heavy “helm” and it makes sense lore-wise as they’re plants and can “grow” in different ways.
Yes. More eye-candy for the ladies. Like the Norn medium armor. I do agree also with options for less frilly armor. Can we at least get the option for NPC armor somehow? I love some of those sets and would consider buying them if I had to get them from the Gem Store… Which include more pants for ladies, more leaves for Sylvari, etc. I believe some NPC armor also has more “sexy male armor” that isn’t an option currently. And so far I haven’t found one set of Gem Store Armor that I like.
