We are rather helpful to newcomers and are rather laid back. We PvX, so ask us about anything!
PM here or in-game.
Hello!
My guild is [MaSF] Masquerading Synesthetic Feux. We’re a small guild on Gate of Madness from GW1, and I’d like to get more actives in it. We don’t have a thief or guardian level 80 at this point and the only Mesmer in it is me currently.
Currently our members mainly PvE, but we are a PvX guild meaning we hop into WvW some and PvP some (just don’t have many members interested in those two).
Also, at this point, we currently have 4 that can hop on and do a dungeon, so a fifth would be nice. Then perhaps we could grow our guild from there (and you, as a(n hopefully active) member will have a lot of input!). We also now have a Deep Cave and an armorer, and are working towards a guild weaponsmith currently.
PM me here or in-game if you’re interested (you’ll have to mind the lack of active guild chat currently). I try and get on each evening, but am rather flexible (you could always PM me here, and if you wanted, you could suggest a time to chat in-game).
Future intent: Our guild is for people who don’t have the time to dedicate their lives to the game, but would like a group to consistently be on at least in the weekends if not in the evenings of the weekdays (for whatever they like, whether it be PvP, dungeons, WvW, or just mucking about). I intend to have a small group of actives, with a larger group of people who can just hop in when they feel like it.
No rifles for rangers or mesmers >_< They don’t fit the lore of the professions. I’d like additional utility/elite skills not weapons/weapon skills. We already have a pistol, dual pistols would be too much! No pistols for Rangers, either. Rangers are attuned to nature. Mesmers are magic users.
Order skills sound like a neat idea. Along skills to go along with the Personal Story item that is useless (cycle for Sylvari, Norn totems, etc).
However, I think that “sub classes” would need to be a choice of say, 3 sub-classes specific to the main class.
Why specific to the “parent class”?
- Because the traits of the “parent class” affect those skills in such a dramatic way. Therefore, the traits should be affecting the sub-class of the “parent.”
- Balancing the effect of the other class skills along with the main-class skills could be an utter pain.
- If you just let current classes have a sub-class of a universal pool of professions, then certain professions will be better at certain sub-classes (like Ranger/Rit was a really good combo, Warrior/Monks well… we all know them, and there were some plain awful combos), which will become contrary to the point of sub-classes in terms of adding whatever personalization you like. With a smaller pool of class-specific sub-classes, this problem doesn’t occur and you get to personalize your profession in comparison to others.
I’m…. really really hesitant about a universal pool of sub-classes. It… didn’t work out that well, IMO in GW1 and I am not sure it would work out better in GW2. I partly like GW2 because it doesn’t have secondary professions. But a class-specific sub-class could be really cool! Or at least an order- or race-specific (I know we kinda do, but I mean like the choice we made at the beginning of the game that doesn’t really apply to much of anything like Sylvari cycles) one. Still, traits might be an issue, but maybe you could have race- or order specific traits.
My beef is where are all the Mesmer-like armors (besides HoM and I don’t count Masquerade because it looks like it was a dress mauled by a bear or cut by someone as a prank to make a fool of the wearer)? And those Mesmery armors they showed to us before the game was released and aren’t able to be obtained…
I have a few questions about them. It seems that just about everyone has an NPC armor set they love (ex: Countess Anise and Norn Raven)… therefore it makes the most sense to just release those armor sets out to the players. They’d get a lot more money than armor sets like the silly flame ones (I literally LOL’d when I saw them).
1. Why haven’t we seen them?
2. Are there any technical reasons why they haven’t been available?
3. Are there any other reasons why they haven’t been made available?
I’d consider buying some NPC sets, for sure. But otherwise? I haven’t found any that I really liked. Also, I’d consider buying armor sets (NPC ones!) if we had a skin management system for gem store sets.
What confuses me, is that it is known what sets people like so there would be instant popularity of those sets once released and potentially a good amount of money could come from them (whether or not they were gem store sets as I might consider buying gems to sell for gold to get the sets if they were cultural armor or what not). People have been wanting some NPC armor sets ever since beta. I know I have.
Edit: They’re also sets that already have been modeled at least to an extent. So it seems to me they’d be easier to make available to players.
I think everyone has been wanting Shaman armor and Countess Anise armor for ages. Why didn’t they release those instead of silly flame armors (I cracked up laughing when I first saw them)?
“underboob” could be argued as indecent exposure in the US. The rest of the armors would be considered bikinis. That is a rather large portion of their market. I do think they went a little too far with this one. I like a lot of their skimpy armors, but I dislike that one.
Bikinis are normal. Underboob isn’t.
Plus… how could you actually fight with an armor suit like that? It is not in any way, shape, or fashion, practical. It’s also very imbalanced.
Definitely. Normally, once a third Living Story comes around the first one cuts off. In this case, it did not (which is a good thing! keep doing it!). The problem with this, though is it caused me to rush (and not enjoy it!) to get the skill point obelisk shard. I’m not doing the next two living stories because of the bad experience with this one. A timer would’ve saved us a lot of trouble and we could have enjoyed gradually finishing the content (we didn’t have time until lately).
Also, it would help newcomers who see this content and don’t know when it was released so then they’d know what is reasonable or not for them to go after. At minimum, when it is released, have an official end date such that people can at least reference there. Though an in-game timer would be much preferable as people should not be expected to look at guildwars2.com to see when something in-game is ending.
I know it’s an old post, but I found the best answer I could.
Looks like it has to be done by the game developers, so if you wanted it, you would want to put a request in the Suggestions forum.
For those of you googling compatibility, this is an official list of games that support AlienFX (and currently GW2 isn’t supported):

1) Kasmeer’s
2) Nightmare
3) Final Rest
possibly 4) Zodiac. I don’t get the tickets to obtain them, though
I main a Sylvari Mesmer and Final Rest is just epic.
What is the best Staff for an Asuran Elementalist?
Gem Store skins should be stored like achievement skins. I have only bought 2 skins (a weapon and a mask) from the Gem Store because I felt there would only be one character who would ever use them.
I still feel miffed that I can’t use the skins in PvP. I refuse to buy a second skin just to be able to use them in PvP.
I haven’t once bought an armor set or town clothes because they are way too expensive to just use on one character. I simply refuse to with their current policy. No matter how attractive the set is.
I would have bought probably at least 3 other skins if they were able to be stored and used multiple times. Rox’s Quiver maybe, maybe Braham’s gear, maybe Pheonix armor, maybe Viper armor, maybe other Mesmer masques, maybe the riding gear, maybe the pirate outfit…. but I just cannot justify it. Admittedly part of it is that I am not that attracted to the outfits. But I definitely would have considered them (and perhaps I am not that attracted to them because they’re one-time-use and I further justify things in my head by saying well, they don’t look that good). As it stands, I will not buy a set that looks awesome just for this reason.
I would probably buy a town clothes set (that is better looking than pirate/etc to me) IF it could be used on all my 9 characters with adjustments for race. I really don’t like my current town clothes.
I know two other people who simply cannot justify buying skins because they are not able to be used multiple times – and probably would have bought skins already if they had been able to access them multiple times. I think the Gem Store would make loads more money if they would just let these Gem Store skins be used multiple times. They’d at least make more money off of me. I am hoping that the increasing amount of account bound items and things like account fractal rating are a good sign that they will do this.
Wow, to me your Sylvari looks beautifully autumnal
I think the armor set and colors you have on her look amazing. What exact colors are those?
I do note that in the preview the glow looks more yellow than white, and when she’s in the game, it appears to be more white. I really like the yellow glow look in the preview.
Suggestions for leveling up a Mesmer: While leveling up keep your clones/phantasms around longer! Don’t shatter them too much at first. They distract the foe from you and help you get out of bad situations. But once you reach the later levels, start shattering more. They can deal a lot of damage at least once they’re leveled up.
Mesmers might get a lot of hate but that’s because they’re so awesome ;P It was the same way in GW1. Not too many around, but good Mesmers are a foe to be reckoned with (and that’s pretty much a level 80 Mesmer here as many don’t stick with them until 80).
Also, get a crafting profession! My friend leveled his ele to 30 just by cooking! Of course, it was an alt, so he was able to get a lot of high level materials to keep the chef going up higher, but the point stands: crafting professions help dramatically in terms of leveling a character up. Also do your story. That helps too.
Keep with the ele! It’s rough to level, but by 80 you will be a killing machine!
I’d suggest Ranger for you, personally. Definitely best at range. The engineer is definitively not ranged (it will make you want to at least hop into the fight, then back out sorta like a thief), nor is it good with DPS at range. Rangers can go DPS, control, whatever you want them to, really.
Mesmers and Staff Elementalists are good ranged magic users. But they’re hard to level up.
Engineers are also hard to level, for that matter since you won’t feel like one until at least level 30. Rangers and Warriors are easy.
Warriors you will also want to hop in the midst of stuff due to adrenaline.
That would be amazing. I loved the storm bow in GW.
Personal trading systems are not flawed due to their code, they are flawed due to the users. Particularly because part of the point of personal trade systems is the ability to undercut the trading post. GW1 had a personal trading system and many people got scammed in it. Why? Because no matter how good of a system you have, someone can always price hike and/or a buyer can buy something for nearly nothing.
The only way a personal trading system could work without those issues is if it price checked the items in the TP, and made sure the buyer sent back that much in gold. Which defeats the entire purpose. So yeah, you might be able to code that, and the system wouldn’t get abused, but then the functionality of being able to go under market value with someone sometimes wouldn’t be there. Programming doesn’t magically change human nature.
If you want to personally trade something, trade it to someone you trust. Send it via unsecure mail, and expect payment in return. I have actually asked for nothing (with people I don’t know) and got paid a couple of times via unsecure mail. Also, since I have traded with people I trust, I have never once not gotten paid for an item I sent via unsecure mail.
A personal trading system is already in place! Mail. You just have to use it with people you trust.
Yes! Pleaseeee!
@Run Away PLZ: That is my concern. Particularly because the latest content will have only been up for a week :/ Which goes against the 2 week schedule. Which means he wouldn’t be able to do the content, likely :/
@Ngeluz: The problem is that he would like to do the content over break, if possible, rather than now. But if he has to do it now, he has to schedule it in with his class studies. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know if it is possible :/ The content isn’t too bad to get and he’d do it on his max level character probably in about 5 days. But again, the problem is ability to schedule it in :/ He hasn’t had time until now, but he really wants to communing place in his home instance (he has the crystal node).
This latest LS he could care less about, it doesn’t give something beyond aesthetics.

I love it. The old animation really bugged me and I didn’t like playing my human partly for it :/ Way too dainty for my taste. So glad they changed it. An adventurer’s run should be tomboyish, not dainty. Looks more like a heroine to me.
Even if a girl is running in a dress doesn’t mean should should run dainty (and I believe it was impossible for human women IRL to run the way they did because it was so awkward). You don’t run efficiently when you do that. This current run is more efficient.
Well, to me they always seemed to run strangely. I didn’t like the running animation before. It had bugged me since release. So I like the new animation. She isn’t running awkwardly anymore.
Hopefully they can change the staff animation to fit better. Or place it better on the back so it doesn’t do that.
I would rather have the awkward staff than the old running animation. I partly didn’t play my human necromancer much because of that animation :/
YES!!!! The running animation has been fixed!!! It has been bugging me from release!!! Thank you ArenaNet! Now I can play my human female and not feel awkward!!
I LOVE the new running animation.
Heroines need to run sans chicken wings and to a less feminine/dainty run!
Likely want to place it in the looking for guild section of the forums.
Either way, my guild is very laid back. (Masquerading Synesthetic Feux)
We don’t care about how good you are or how often you’re on, etc. We just want to be helpful.
Our guild is over 20, we have a few females (including myself), and we have a life outside the game (I’m doubting this will much change with more members). Unfortunately, at this point, we are small, so if you log in you won’t be guaranteed to run into a guild member, but I am trying to fix that
We PVX, but we are up for anything you want to do.
GW1 Mesmer armor styles for Casters! From Elite Kurzick to Vabbian to Rogue Armor. Any and all of them! But with better mix ’n match capabilities.
See every one thought I was crazy when I made my post of the poor cant compete.
Wasn’t aware that cosmetic skins was a competition.
kitten , you mean to tell me I’m being SCORED on this?
There is a fashion achievement category. Which benefits if you buy gems, then sell them to buy armor. Cultural armor is so expensive.
Edit: I buy most with real dollars. But yeah, the in-game gold cost is really expensive.
I would love to see Cantha and Elona again! Pesky dragons….
Yes! I like her outfit, too. I don’t think the top is available, is it?
Maybe they can give you tips in the living story? Not just vague references as to what is going on.
But then your personal story is boring because you’re over-leveled for a lot of it. And your name could be awkward for your race, cultural gear, etc. Might as well just make a new character.
I will take a run on my sylvari and see if it does it on her. If it really bugs you, you might want to invest in the Kasmeer staff. It shouldn’t do that.
Edit: It rocks a little on my Sylvari, but not that much. Maybe it’s your character’s build? Or human female builds in general? I wonder if it has something to do with the shoulders or hips.
(edited by Lorelei.7809)
ArenaNet put hair under a few hats in GW1, so maybe they will do it soon!
I keep getting asked: “When does this content end?” such that the person can plan how/when he is going to achieve the meta event. I cannot ever give a definitive answer. I would love a timer like the Daily and Monthly timers for Living Story content.
Ex: I do not know if the next content November 19th will take away the Nightmare content that gives the communing shard or not. I told him it probably would not but that I have honestly no idea. He is able to do the content, he just needs to plan for it. To figure out if he should do something else like personal story, or living world before it disappears.
Oh… you do realize that if you change race you likely won’t be able to keep your same equipment right? Particularly if you used cultural armor.
@Dezaq Do you really dislike your current race so much after all that time you spent on him?! You obviously liked him well enough to grind a legendary for him!
Edit: If gear could work when changing races, it may look terrible on your new char considering you got the gear for a different race.
My issue is basically this: They have a “Mac client” aka effectively a wine-wrapper, so why can’t they do that for Linux? I don’t really care if they offer technical support, but at least acknowledge us like they do Mac people. And if they worked with a group like they did with Mac, then it should run better on Linux.
Why do you want to change your race? And why isn’t re-rolling an option?
But being able to change race would add so many complications to input that I think your only option may be to re-roll. You’d have to change your personal storyline and get to re-answer the questions at character creation. Then you’d have to entirely re-do your storyline.
human men get dredlocks… the ladies only get one style with tight braids (not sure I’d call, a mohawk type thing, and the rest of the hair going long. Asura get an Afro option…
I hope they add more ethnic type hairstyles/faces, definitely. Maybe at least when we get access to Cantha or Elona they’ll add them.
I like the idea of an unkempt afro option
Hm, I will take a look at my characters with staves and see what I find. Unfortunately my Norn doesn’t carry a staff and I don’t use my human a lot. Have you tried to see the effect on other races?
I particularly love the idea of an ability to port there. Like you go to PvP to then get to Lion’s Arch. If we can do that, then maybe we can go home, to our racial capital, then to Lion’s Arch. At least after our personal story is over on that character. I know some instances are located there.
I would like a personal story historian there.
I’d also like the ability to have a bank and merchant in there.
What is the difference, if you don’t mind me asking? As in, a point of comparison?
I think they added braids to a similar ponytail, also. That one might work better for you if you like the shorter look.
9/10
Where is he?! xD Which, I think was your goal, was it not? I like the eyes, too
My Sylvari Mesmer
I’m going to get Kasmeer’s Staff for her, keep that in mind. I just figured I would spice up this thread. Perhaps I will update once I get Kasmeer’s Staff for her (need to craft a staff to put it on!).
You could go with the biological genera that contain the mushrooms also. Example Mycena Psilo I would take a look at genus species names and also the genera. I’d also play with the spelling. Y’s for i’s, etc.
It doesn’t seem as if mine are on two of my characters. One seems fine, one seems really bad, and one just seems dark.
I like it! It gives more reason to either level up in PvP for a better finisher and gives more worth to permanent bought finishers. Also, I like how it adds another dimension to PvE. You have to pay attention to which enemies need finished and which don’t. It adds another strategic dimension. I attack the ones I need to finish first as the others are easier to kill and I will be stuck if I need to rally if I don’t kill the ones that need finishing first.
You can also rally off a foe that needs finishing I believe IF you can kill it in its downed state, which normally doesn’t work out, but I believe does happen.
Dye.
Stuff you buy from the Gem Store. I am particularly talking about armor and weapon skins. Why can’t I use my Queen’s Masque in PvP and PvE? I would like an item that I pay for to be replicatable to be used on multiple characters or at least on the same character in PvP and PvE! It seems silly that I can’t even use it in all instances on one character.
I am hoping the account bound permanent harvesting stuff is a sign of a trend toward account-bound stuff.
It’s a fantasy game! No taxes please!
Then you’d get all sorts of weird stuff.
You’d get tax haven guilds and you’d get guilds that tax you insanely, etc and so forth. There would be alliances of larger guilds trying to bully and steal members of the tax haven guilds and…. no. no. no. xD
<snip>To summarize my post:
<snip>
1. No Flying mounts
2. Mounts shouldn’t offer unfair advantages over players
3. Mounts should have a bonus movement speed of 25%, the same as many classes utility passives, and Runes that can be bought.
4. Mounts Should Have Bag Slots that players can buy for them.
5. Mounts should not be implemented in WvW and sPvP.
Points 3 and 4 contradict point 2.
Letting them have bag slots is definitely an unfair advantage. That lets people who have mounts have more bag slots than other players. IF that was the case, the only way to make that fair would be to make sure that everyone got a mount at character creation.
Also, only half of the professions have utility passives that give a bonus movement speed of 25%.
And honestly, without points 3 and 4, what’s the use of having them?
I think any and all mounts should be like the broom (or tunneler?). Maybe we should have different mounts like them. I would love a horse. But I know that is super-unlikely.
A siege devourer for a mission would be quite awesome, though.
I entirely agree! The only two activities I like out of the bunch are sanctum sprint (and I don’t like to hop in that one as much as I would have much preferred Sanctum Arena… Ellen won after all! Why didn’t we get Arena instead of Survival?!) and Keg Brawl. I would love to hone my keg brawling skills whenever I wanted to >:D
