I actually seen a red post regarding similar suggestion. If I remember correctly, and I am paraphrasing, “Then people who like skyhammer will have to wait in very long queues and that is unacceptable”.

Every time when I see posts like this I like to imagine this kind of map being made and forcefully put in other competitive game map rotation. For example counter-strike: you have your de_dust2, de_nuke, de_inferno and then fy_narrowledgesoversomepit that was made by an 8 year old in 2 hours. Or teamfortress2: you have cp_badlands, cp_granary, and cp_alotofpitsandcornersforpyropushing. Even wow does not have an arena map that allows you to cc opponent to some pit.

The only way to fix skyhammer is to delete it, you cant salvage it as a competitive map, developers failed. Its just too bad they will not admit it.

I wouldn’t want to lock anyone from playing their favorite race (if that is the reason they picked Asura in the first place).. Not to mention grief that would surely come in solo/teamq after players learned that Asuras were straight up banned from a legit tournament.

So how about an option in custom arenas to enlarge the Asuran model to Sylvari size whenever a match starts?

EDIT: just realized that Chaotic basically said the same thing…

Make an option to view all enemies as humans – that is it, problem solved.

Courtyard.

Nobody likes 2v2 or 3v3, hence nobody plays courtyard, hence theres rarely a server running courtyard because its a 2v2 3v3 deathmatch style map, which nobody likes deathmatch either.

Truth be told, you could deathmatch in conquest and it would be totally fine, if your winning all your 1v1 and you took that guy out of the game, your not hurting your team, your racking points killing a guy and taking him out of the game. But thing is, nobody does that because again, nobody likes deathmatch.

If 2v2 became competitive it would be 2 guys, one of them turret engy both of them waiting behind the turrets.

Courtyard is only in private servers, mostly owned by people with strange zerg fetish making it a 8×8. 2×2 and 3×3 is almost never seen, so you can’t say if it is popular or not.

Turret engies or any other AI reliant build should not exist in pvp.

Have no idea what bis is, but in spvp every gear stat is equal, thus if you have the crappiest armor you are equal with someone who has all the exotic ones.

You cant be serious, can you? There is no way a person is so oblivious that to call “Feature patch” a spvp patch.
Anet removed everything that was given as a reward from pvp players and instead gave pve junk that has no use.
Anet removed free skin swaps and gave nothing in return.
Anet removed the core idea of “everyone is equal in pvp” by adding new traits.
Anet removed 1 map, gave 1 map that can only be played for $
Anet gave a reward system that is as crappy as previous one.

How is that a pvp patch, and not a patch aimed towards pve crowd that also wants the crumbs of uniqueness that pvp players had?

This is why B2P for a MMO is a broken model – once you spend the $$$ to buy the game, they have little incentive to keep players happy – they want you to spend regularly in the gem store or stop playing completely to keep their network costs down.

The best way to bleed players is to focus virtually all development resources on producing stuff that can be bought through the gem store, so non-buyers get bored and leave.

And this is exactly what they do.

both team fortress 2 and dota 2 are free to play games, yet they make lots of monies.
why is that?

Because they were developed as a good games with an aim to be entertaining for the most casual and most competitive player only then there was a cash shop added. Alas gw2 was not.

So you were serious. My counter-arguments:

1. The traits that were added are mostly aimed towards pve – you barely see anyone using something new. But new traits did something that goes against “everyone is equal at start” theme that was in anets pvp manifesto: you NEED gold to get new traits, they are not unlocked automatically when you enter the mists. This warps the balance even more, now if new traits are powerful, new players cannot obtain them.
2. They added a reward system that rewards you pve items, no its not a good baseline, because most likely they wont develop any unique pvp items in such amount as they are making new pve junk. Also why would I care about pve items if I am pvping? Previously I could at least craft dyes at the forge from items, now I salvage them or just delete it.
3. I was only pvper and since I did not farm rank had ~48 rank. After the patch I obtained 60 transmutation stones. So I have 6 characters that can wield 4 one handed weapons: 6×6=36 (armor set) 4×6=24 (weapons), so I used up all the transmutation stones to get the look I had previous to the patch – hurray! We did loose our pvp look – armor could be used as an indicator of how well did the player perform, especially ones rewarded for paid tournament or teamq, they were unique in our plain of the game. Now every pve farmer has everything without trying in pvp.
4. Legendaries in pvp that can only be obtained in pve – truly a good addition for pvp players, more farmers with more effect spam.
5. 1 Unique back skin that was sold in trading post (so not really unique) and is obtained ridiculously easy – another good addition. How many backpacks were developed to be obtained uniquely in pve?
6. Gold as a reward is nice for people that have use in it, so it is aimed towards mixed pve-pvp player as an additional source of $. Yet I have to mention that gold is farmed a lot easier just zerging mobs and you can’t really buy something good for pvp.
7. I already mentioned the new map which you can play for $$$.

Sure 1 patch cant solve all the major problems that were here from the start, too bad 95% of patches are aimed for pve that does not have problems. They just add more content for mob zergers. PvP lacks almost all the major things you’d expect a game to be launched with.

And about your:

  1. Custom Arenas (And with it, the advent of 1v1 servers, private tournaments, private practicing and gambling arenas)
  2. Newer builds (There are way more useful skills and traits than there use to be)
  3. The Tournament of Legends
  4. Soloqueue/Teamqueue
  5. Shoutcasting support
  6. Three maps (Skyhammer, Temple, Spirit)

3 maps in 2 years. How many maps did pve get, that were larger with more things to develop in comparison to pvp? And they even failed at that, because 2 out of 3 maps added are such kitten that some people actually go solo in team queue just to avoid it. Truly good call.

Newer builds are because of balance patches, so basically changing number values in some things (like healing signet doubling).

There are FREE games that develop more in 1 quarter then anet developed in 2 years. But if you are truly satisfied with these petty “additions” I envy you – either you just started playing or have nerves of steel : )

P.S. Or maybe you are trolling because you cant say “put all this other amazing stuff in.” with a straight face while talking about pvp development.

Wildstar is made also by ncsoft, thus noone cares, if they still keep bringing the moneyz to company. Also about the “hinting” thing:

They have been hinting things they will develop for almost 2 years now. Look at how many things they gave us and then thing about the value of these “hints”.

I don’t use a finisher.

Since finishers were the only prestige reward you could get that others see in pvp it actually should matter. But its time for everyone to understand, that this game was never aimed towards pvp, all the development is for pve crowd.

P.S. I always use the rabbit finisher.

Dude…the feature patch. How was that not a massive PvP update?

Not sure if serious, or sarcasm. Feature patch was not aimed towards pvp, it was aimed towards pve crowd, because we lost more than we gained.

We lost:
- Ranks
- Free skin swaps
- 1 crappy map, but still a map
- 1 crappy hotjoin mode (8×8), but still a mode
- PvP only look
- Hope for any decent reward system aimed towards pvp (well at least I did)
- Ability to get bags cheap
- All previous system rewards (glory, crafting parts, etc.).
- The fundamental rule, that everyone is equal in pvp, only skill matters. Since they added traits for $ which pvp people can hardly get.
- Ability to wear all the armor just by entering mists.

We gained:
- More pve pplz in pvp (too bad most of them are so addicted to brainlessly farm, they usually either afk, or better that they would afk in any comp. mode, but still more people are better they just need to learn )
- 1 map only available for $$$
- The ability to retrait less tediously (still could make templates though)
- New reward system that is even more crappy then the previous one, which is quite a difficult thing to say. New reward system gives you things you don’t need in pvp to salvage or sell, to get gold that you don’t use in pvp. Well you didn’t use it, but now gold can buy new traits, wonder if they will make some “slightly” more powerful traits and sell them for gems in the future…

What we should have received:
- WORKING match system preventing 4×5 at start
- Leaderboards that actually is something to reach for
- WORKING mmr system preventing top100 vs less than1000 fights
- More modes that would make pvp fun
- Rewards worth trying for
- A map voting system before comp. match – you know the thing that 90% of pvp games currently have?
- Templates

Gw2 pvp is not being developed, just don’t fool yourself…

I definitely vote for a human option for clients – anyone watching has to see player-race models, but there’s a checkbox in the settings for “see all enemies in PvP as human”.

Almost all content is pve oriented, and that’s not just a coincidence. Those pve people everyone loves to bash…….they pay for your game. Maybe say thanks next time around eh?

I love pvp here, hell thats all i do anymore. I would gladly pay monthly if that meant the pvp community would get some good, solid dev love as their only job.

Not sure if trolling or just… But in “not trolling” case: they pay for my game? Really? Because somehow I lost 70 euros when I obtained this game, probably got a glitch in the whole “pve pplz pay for my game” system.

You do comprehend that profits from gemstore can go directly to ncsoft skipping the whole anet development team? And guess the amount of people who would “gladly pay monthly” when not everyone can force themselves to play it for free. I would estimate not a lot.

Solid dev job should be a given, since gw2 was advertised as a “First AAA pvp mmorpg”, “ESPOOOOORTZZZZ!!1” and other marketing slogans used to trick people into buying this game for actual player versus player. Currently pvp is at beta – gw2 has almost nothing that you would think an average (not even good) competitive pvp game suppose to have at lounch. They even can’t integrate the ladder system in the game – you have to go to the syte to check it, they can’t even COPY a common ready system to prevent matches 4×5 from starting.

Its not the lack of resources, its the lack of interest – they failed at pvp at start and failed at developing it later. So they just cut their losses and stopped giving a crap, thus we have nothing worth paying for a single time, not to mention a monthly.

You cant facetank damage as a thief, thus you have plenty of evades, stealths and best mobility ingame. Also you can take a pistolwhip build and just 333333333333 people in hotjoin.

If you are green at any game, you need to research it a bit first – google builds, learn enemy weaknesses, etc.

There was a poll like this before, it got ~400 responses to remove skyhammer, so mods removed the thread. And then some red post got the balls of saying that skyham is around 50/50 by their more accurate internal metrics. Even if it was 50/50 it would be considered a fail map in most other games, but this is gw2 – everything goes.

I imagine if in lets say counter-strike map rotation you would have de_dust2 de_nuke de_inferno and some fy_wardayzL33Tmap that a nine year old child developed in a day, how would people react? Guess which map is an analogy to skyham in gw2.

If its account bound I delete it usually, if it can be sold I will sell it at auction house. You can achieve everything a lot faster in pve, so if your goal is crafting stuff the more useful way is there.
