From all the soloq and teamq matches I have played after the patch only 2 were with nubs. A good indicator is actually a legendary skin – true beacon of pve grinder. All the other matches were usually the same quality as before the patch: usually a one-sided match with a couple 4×5 and about 30%-40% skyham.
That word gets overused within gw2 forum. Britney spears toxic lyrics should be post whenever someone uses that word… so here you go.
Baby, can’t you see
I’m calling
A guy like you
Should wear a warning
It’s dangerous
I’m fallin’There’s no escape
I can’t wait
I need a hit
Baby, give me it
You’re dangerous
I’m lovin’ itToo high
Can’t come down
Losing my head
Spinning ‘round and ‘round
Do you feel me nowWith a taste of your lips
I’m on a ride
You’re toxic I’m slipping under
With a taste of a poison paradise
I’m addicted to you
Don’t you know that you’re toxic
And I love what you do
Don’t you know that you’re toxic
…
You need to just: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc . Actually every "oh noes someone called my nub, whay so toxic qq :’( " threads kind of reminds me of this blond thing in youtube.
I am just waiting for a necromancer trait: You are immune to direct damage while you are up X amount of health. Hey if it works for conditions why cant it work for direct?
- Capping points doesn’t go faster with multiple people, so avoid capping empty points with other teammates.
- Learn what other classes can do, that it will not take you by surprise. This can be done best by playing with them yourself.
- Choose wisely when to finish an opponent, when to leave him in downstate (at hotjoin just finish as fast as you can, but at solo or team queue there are time that leaving him in downstate is more useful).
- Google best builds for ranger, do not know if this patch changed anything, but previously it was spirit ranger. If you want to play as you like test different builds, but do not be surprised if they are less viable option and other ranger can just #111111 you down.
- Communicate in solo / team q tell people what you are best at doing, for example bunkering close, how many people are incoming to close, etc.
- If you are outnumbering enemy team at a fight, and it is already won don’t stand at that side of map for long, there is a great chance that your team is being outnumbered on some other point.
- Don’t expect to be good at first, it takes time to learn pvp, not like bashing mobs to level up in pve.
When this map is played 2×2 or 3×3 it is truly a great new “mode”. When it is played 5×5 8×8 or 10×10 it is only missing some door banging and npc guards, then it would be pure wvw aoe spam.
Removed from pvp since the first year:
- Glory

- Transmutation stones
- PvE (!!!!) rewards
So you decide did anet decision benefit pvp?
I could me mistaken, but I thought I got 40 charges because I was rank 40 the first time I logged in?
I was rank 48 before patch and became rank 61 after. I received 56 charges, so still can’t figure out the math
Don’t worry, soon most people will leave pvp and we can enjoy empty servers again for dueling.
Prior to the patch, rewards were random armor and weapon skins you may or may not want, and all you could do was salvage them to make fewer armor and weapon skins you still may not want. Now you can actually sell things you don’t want. How is that not an improvement?
I am not saying that previous rewards were better. But in my opinion getting semi-random armor and weapon skins you may or may not want is better than getting items you do not have any use at all. And previously I could craft dyes from unwanted gear (even though it was very tedious), now I could sell the junk I get and buy dyes, too bad all the items are few silvers and the price of dyes is in gold.
About the missing piece – it does not count towards stats, but since the only pvp reward that carried over to the new system was the looks it is a huge drawback to any player that only pvps and has a bunch of lvl 2 characters.
I do however agree that this update may attract some people to try pvp.
(edited by Lukin.4061)
You have that crummy TDM map for zerging now. Also
Nobody cares. If you want big 8v8s make a custom arena or go WvW
+1 to OP, its ridiculous how they keep forgetting the “equal playing field in pvp” part. Also You forgot to mention amulets and sigils that are sold for gold.
In my opinion it was a mediocre patch aimed towards PvE. For example:
- Your pve gear automatically transfers on your character, I wonder if it was the opposite was made would the mob grinders be bothered by it.
- You need to have full gear equipped when most of pvp players have a lvl 2 character with 2 or 3 parts missing.
- Entire reward system is for pve – almost every single reward is some material, crappy weapon/armor or just junk that I need to sell in auction house or destroy.
Most importantly:
- YOU NEED TO USE GOLD TO BUY TRAITS AND NEW EQUIPMENT IN THE MISTS! Where did the “Everyone is equal in pvp” “No grind pvp” vision go?
What I liked:
- Dye return via email, even if the price dropped immediately by 50% still a fair decision.
- Removal of 8×8 hotjoin
- New trait system that saves me mouse clicks and new rune equipment for the same reason.
To sum up, the patch did not live to all the hype that was created.
Perplexity is going be a kitten to handle.
There will NOT be perplexity runes in pvp
~300 boosters, a few stacks of mats and all the finishers, since I do not use any of them : I
All skyhammer threads should go here, then it will be all goooooood…
Because EEEEESSSSSPPPOOOOOOORRRRRRTSSSSSSS!!!!
Why did you buy gems in the first place? : D Do you truly think that this kind of development should be supported?
The “against duels” arguments are weak at best:
1. I don’t want effect spam somewhere where I can see it, because it frays my nerves : (
2. I don’t want people to challenge me, because pressing decline is hard.
3. Dueling creates toxic players, don’t let this game become toxic, because toxic, toxic…
4. There already is a possibility to duel, all you need is to spend actual money, buy a custom arena, go to arena, wait for someone to come, offer him a duel, find him on the map, hope no one else joins your server while you are dueling and interrupts it. If this system is perfect, I suggest doing something similar to lets say dungeons, or just mob grinding in general. Rent a mob with gems, find him on a map, hope noone steals the kill, kill him, get XP, rent it again in a couple of weeks, since he expired.
It would be unfair if, the month before the patch hits, pvers were to flood pvp just for the sake of easy skin/ dye farming, and end up with as many – or almost as many – skins and dyes unlocked as we have gathered over the year and a half playing pvp.
If it took you a year and a half to amass your dye and skin collection, why would it take pvers less than one month?
There were no skyham farm that are still left unpunished a year and a half ago : )
There is literally no experienced PvP player who will agree 1v1 dueling is a form of PvP.
You can’t be serious. Of course dueling is a form of PvP. What do you think “PvP” stands for? Push vs Pull?
You watch one person, and react to their actions. That takes literally 0 skill, whatsoever.
I think you just defined the meaning of skill.
Sure, it’s PvP in the sense that it’s a player versus a player… It’s NOT PvP in the sense of what Guild Wars has always considered PvP.
Neither is wvw (or zvz or zvd), but it is still here, so what is the argument again? I start to think that this is a trolling attempt…
I keep hearing ‘dueling is something to do while waiting on an event’…well, I guess pleasant, polite conversation is a lost art now? It’s not my fault you’re socially inept, unable to understand and see the value in different view points so you have to resort to bannin-erm, I mean calling other people names and insulting them for the heinous act of thinking differently (‘carebears’…really do you think that makes you sound cool? Couldn’t be more embarrassed for you).
Aside from the lunacy of wanting 1v1 in a game that isn’t balanced around 1v1, I’m in the camp that if you want pvp head to the pvp zones. You can add your duelling option for the kids there (hurrah for condescending name-calling). The funny thing is when they add it (‘not high on the list’ isn’t a ‘no’ afterall) you can bet you’ll see a flood of ‘ZOMG THIEF OP-I CAN’T WINS DUELS!’ and demanding various changes based on that. Of course people will say the game wasn’t balanced around duels and so it doesn’t matter to which the most logical argument would be ‘well why bother adding a mode to the game if you’re not going to balance it’. Yeah…can’t wait till that happens.
When they add dueling I’ll just preemptively disable whispers…and I hope they added an auto ‘turn down duel request’ button simultaneously. Also expect to see a crapton of particle effects all over the major cities/hub if/when one resurfaces…who needs a stable framerate in towns anyway? Ah…I can just imagine what map chat will now look like as well…yup, looking forward to this degradation.
“why do you guys want to fight i just want to talk”
Yeah that is probably the most carebear thing i’ve ever heard.
Carebears look like fight club in comparison to this post.
On topic: Duels are common in mmorpgs for many reasons, but most important its because they are fun. No mmorpg is perfectly balanced around 1×1, it can be as bad as rpc model, yet people will still duel. Nothing prevents you from NOT dueling so how is this a problem? Framerate drop because of effects as an argument? Just lol…
P.S. Did not want to insult anyone, that was just an expression of my different point of view.

Teamfortress 2
Don’t bother explaining to pve people why rewards for tournaments can be legendary items – they still think killing mobs/doors (in wvw case) are harder in comparison to actual people.
Warrior is getting these traits:
Strength: Burst Precision – Burst skills have an increased chance to critically hit ( Chance: 100%)
Arms: Dual Wield Agility- Your attack speed is increased by 10% when wielding a sword, axe or mace in your offhand.
Defense: Rousing Resilience – Gain toughness when you break out of a stun. The amount of toughness gained is up to 1000, based on your level and lasts for 4 seconds.
Tactics: Phalanx Strength – When you grant yourself might, grant it to nearby allies as well. 6s of might is granted each time this trait triggers. (It works with blast finishers)
Discipline: Brawler’s Recovery – Remove blindness when you swap weapons.
Warrior is getting these balance nerfs:
8% reduction of HS (In comparison to signet buff in 2013 its laughable "nerf)
Increased LB #5 from 1/4 sec cast to 3/4
So how is this considered a relevant nerf?
Why is it bad?
You can 1 shot people with CC spam
Unblockable cannon
Not every class has the same amount of CC and stability
What is good?
Nothing
How do you prevent 4×5? How about copy a system from any other competitive game, for example cs: go. If 10 people do not press ready match does not start. In gw2 as it seems if you do not press ready you are still thrown into the game, so you either get an afk member, or he actually left and there is noone to put it ingame.
Today I had 1 4×5 from the start.
I have no problem with unlockable traits – and if they introduced new skills or runes or sigils and they decided to make them too unlockable for gold (or any other currency), I wouldn’t have any problem for that either. As long as a beginner has access to enough variety to make a competitive build, unlocks will give them a sense of progression and something to aim for and feel a sense of achievement about. It worked absolutely fine in GW1, people couldn’t wait to run to the Priest of Balthazar and spend their faction on unlocks, and it works absolutely fine on the SCORES of f2p pvp games out there.
Anyway, the new healing skills they introduced a few months back also had to be unlocked, and nobody complained! Why is that? Could it be because everyone had hundreds of skill points saved since launch and didn’t mind, whereas now because they’re saying they’ll also be unlockable for gold you’re all feeling their evil hands in your pockets? I don’t remember seeing any posts that went “I’ve been doing nothing but pvp since launch so I have neither skill points to buy these nor gold to buy scrolls of knowledge with!” Face it, even the most hardcore of us still do a little bit of pvp, so we all have more than enough gold saved up to unlock these skills if you cba to go into pve to unlock them. And if there are one or two people who don’t, and end up buying some gems to trade for gold so they can unlock them right away, do you really begrudge ANet making a few bucks?? I for one though, even though I barely step into pve since I got my main to 80, will be unlocking them to pve, not because I don’t want them to have my money but because I find the extra time and effort will make the feeling of achievement greater, and maybe bring back memories of some of the epic elite capping expeditions I undertook in GW1.
In the long term I think it’s better for the health of pvp to have even more unlocks, and eventually I’d actually like to see the pvp portion of the game to be made f2p and funded entirely through unlocks.
1. If this kind of progression works fine in scores of f2p games is most likely because
they are free to play and it is a way for a company to make money. And the model they advertised was not everyone can join pvp and be on the same playing field as veteran players, since grinding does not give you any advantage.
2. Why there was no complaining about healing skills? First of all there was a little bit of complaining, but not as vocal. The reason was that new heals were all crappy – almost no use in pvp. Also I’ve been doing nothing but pvp since launch so I had neither skill points nor gold to buy new heals – that is not an exaggeration, now I do since buying tomes is the only sink of glory I had.
3. Buying gems to become equal level with everyone else who can grind some pve mobs? This is truly a good strategy for an MMORPG that at launch marketed itself as an esport mmorpg. I would’t give anet few bucks (actually euros in my case) if they were dying out of starvation. And that is not because I do not support development, I supported PoE developers, but they actually make the game better instead of worse.
4. Unlocking traits via slaying pve mobs IS NOT a reward, thus it should not feel like an achievement. It is just a time gate/money grabbing gate implemented by game developers.
5. If the game actually became free to play and unlock system that funds anet will be implemented, then they should prepare to refund the game for anyone who bought it to have an “everyone equal, no grind required pvp”.
Problem with AI builds in gw2 is that they are almost 100% passive, for example: spirit ranger – summon a clump of AI, spam 1 = done, mesmer – summon phantasms, roll around, let them do all the work = done, mm necro has the most active AI control, yet still lacking.
There aren’t that many “spam AI for pvp” mmorpgs that you could call countless, larger part is only 1 AI per class. Also answer me this – how many AI spamming classes do you see in currently most popular pvp games of different genres? Passive play should never be better than active play.
(edited by Moderator)
DoTs or conditions as they are called in this game need to be applied, so you can LoS that. Also conditions can be removed, negating all the dmg that would be potentially dealt. Power dmg doesn’t have the same thing, so not really a problem.
AI builds should not be viable in the game, but so should be all the passive crap – that and spamming is the bane of pvp.
Signed, in before topic lock…
No you will get chests with pve crap.
sory but wtf. wvw season, servers that won, did not get nearly as 1% of this pvp tournament winning. wtf is this crap. by your logic. everyone should just get a legendary. because best wvw server right?
Bashing doors still doesn’t count as pvp, nor should it be rewarded as one.
(edited by Lukin.4061)
Now thats some goooooood pvp reward, worth it.
Soloqs are all about luck. Thats pretty much it.
The biggest problem is the way that MMR works. New players can win a few lucky ones in a row and get their MMR and ranks up higher than they should be. Direct result of that are really weird and uneven matchups. So the direct opposite of what an MMR system should be doing.
A good example is a (friendly) guy i met in soloq the other day called Jace Norsd. He currently has a 21-32 record overall, while being a former top 22 (currently 900). And he was about as good as any random new player you meet if you ever do hotjoin games.
Wrong solo q is all about who runs the kitten kitten builds, bunker engi, condi wars spirit rangers. kitten game play at it’s finest
Since some people still refuse to run these builds its still luck – in this case it is if you get a bigger amount of people running said builds, or will the enemy team have the luck in numbers.
You really think if a new player is able to select from a pool of traits he is fine but if he gets 1 new trait per line he is lost? Come on.
Again, this system is forward looking. If we just unlocked the 40 new traits now, what about next time? It will always just be X more. We have to draw a line somewhere, and here is probably the best place to start.
Thanks for being so vocal in this thread, but that is just a strange strategy – Guildwars2 marketing message/manifesto actually mentioned where you draw the line in this instance:
You do not draw any artificial barriers/“lines”, since in pvp everyone should be equal, everyone should be able to use all the gear, every single sigil, each and every trait, all the utilities just by joining the pvp lobby.
I think every pvper made a huge mistake by ignoring the implementation of new healing skills, yes I know they were all crappy, but that gave anet a precedent – no one cared that they went against the whole idea of spvp in gw2, thus they can do it again, and again, and again. Where do you draw a line then? Will there be only trait unlocks? How about some new utilities? Maybe an elite or two for couple hundred gems? Or some pack new sigils that can be unlock just for 9.99€? I hope that this is not the road anet is following, but the whole situation looks grim.
Saying no rewards anymore is hyperbole. That suggests we are not adding a system to replace the old one, which is not true.
And yes, per Colin’s blog post, we’ve now released that the Feature build will be on April 15!
One last thing that really bugs me, and probably 90% of the PvP society as well, is that when we recieved Win Reward Chest from tPvP, we got the specific amount of Rank Points. How ever, these did not add to your Rank Point Titles (Gladiator, Mercenary, Avenger, Ransacker, Marauder, Ravager etc.). It’s been a known bug, for months, but no fixes has been made. And with the new update where we get Rank Points at the end of the game, we could not wish for more than that you had fixed this known bug, and finally let us advance in those Titles without being stuck in HotJoin.
Unfortunately, that has not been fixed, yet, and I’m afraid it might not even come in the feature patch. Do you have any answers to this?I’ll try again. Do you have any answers for this?
I think you already got your answer.
Have you noticed that no one from ANET besides the thread locker guy has bothered to respond in these forums?
At least he is the only one that can show actual results of his work.
Standard Logic
Yo…let’s release a new reward system to give our players better gaming experience! Develop the new system, then update the game and replace the older system. Everything will be amazing!Anet Logic
Yo…let’s release a new reward system SOON, but today remove the current one!!1!!eleven!! Everything will be amazing (when it’s ready)! All is vain.
Fixed that for you, because you truly were too optimistic..
Because soon. Now wait for this thread to be deleted.
Writing a report on what are the most effective actions you can take to help clinically depressed patients as a psychologist working in a team with psychiatrist. Actually quite ironic topic when I think about it, since the development of gw2 pvp may actually cause depression in some cases.
Also playing counter-strike for pvp, stopped playing gw2.
(edited by Lukin.4061)
I also never understood this lack of communication – there is probably a 20% chance that 1 person talks at start, never had 4 or 5 people in team that actually all talk about what they are going to do, what is happening in their field of view.
If you like trolls you should love the GW2 developers. Best I’ve seen.
Today showed how true this statement is…
lol this thread made me think of this
That is the original gw2 pvp manifesto…
Hello,
I have a question regarding ~70k of glory left – where to “invest” it? I already have all the looks I need for 5 characters, so do not need to buy any new expensive armor from an npc (besides do not have any gold for it).
Also I am not willing to buy a new mouse, so spending it all on 200 glory chests is not an option. Just thinking about the amount of clicks I would need: 70k/200=350 350*2=700 (confirmation of purchase) 700+350(opening chest)=1050. I am afraid of even calculating scavanging clicks…
So is there anything I missed that can still be useful with this reward?
Also I have a stack of win chest – will they vanish or can I keep that stack and hope for anything new from it along the way?
Thanks for any suggestion
