Dumbfire Necros….because they’re just incredibly overpowered.
Engineers are always a Wildcard. Some are easy, some are demi-gods.
Black Powder has significantly reduces my fear of Warriors. In fact I even hunt them down now. But without Black Powder I wouldn’t want to face a Warrior either.
Some Mesmer builds can be really tough too but not in an unfair way.
Good luck with your black powder! After a warrior makes you blow your stun break he will use berserker stance, skull crack you, and hb your face. All while you are standing in a black powder field thinking you are safe :p
except how can he make you blow your stunbreak if he’s blind?
It’s really just a L2P issue, wait for the berserk pop, stunbreak, stealth, and wait 8 seconds to kill him during the huge cd it has.
Phantasm mesmers are my hardest match-up.
How can u call it “reward” ? I can’t even open it!
You can open them?!?!?!?! for me the only option was “Destroy” so I thought we just got them to destroy them….
jkjk
I’m just doing my best to hold out and see what the revamped reward system will look like. Honestly losing motivation to continue playing since most of the good players have left. This new reward system could be the saving grace of pvp or it could just be another insult to a dedicated player-base.
Trick or Treat bags are a temporary reward during the Mad King festivities. We agree that it would have been better to give both Trick or Treat bags and reward chests but the system involved can, at this time, only reward one type of item at a time. We therefore made the decision to allow PvP players to participate in the game wide festivities because it is only a couple of weeks. There is an achievement that you can earn by opening Trick or Treat bags and if you take a look at this page:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-guide-to-blood-and-madness/
You will see that the contents of trick or treat bags can be used to work towards bigger rewards. Rather than give PvP players no option to work towards these rewards we decided to temporarily give out trick or treat bags.
This is by no means the final reward update to PvP. There are many things in the works regarding PvP rewards that will be rolled out over the course of several months.
I do however understand your complaints and concerns. So I’d like to offer this to you guys, if you accept Trick or Treat bags until the Mad King festivities are over, would you be happy to have double PvP reward chests for the two weeks after the festivities are over? This way those players who would like to spend their time in PvP to earn their holiday rewards can continue to spend their time in PvP and those of you who don’t want the holiday rewards can sell them on the trading post and then collect double PvP reward chests for a couple of weeks to make up for it.
Does this sound like a reasonable solution?
This definitely seems like an acceptable action (double chests for two weeks). Speaking for myself: while I realize chests are worthless since I have stacks of them I’ll never open right now, it’s a refreshing reminder of my ardent participation in competitive pvp. Some part inside of me is just hoping that one day maybe something good will be put inside, but those hopes aren’t high.
Yes, this for me would be a suitable response-action to the trick-or-treat items.
In all honesty, it’s offensive. I’m not sure if the devs did this as a passive aggressive thing against pvpers because this forum is full of complaints.
All pvpers ask for is rewards that are even remotely on par with PVErs. Is that really so hard to ask? There are still pvpers who’ve been strictly pvping since Beta, and have invested arguably even more time into the game than a lot of PVErs with top achievement points.
We all know that it is insanely hard to rank up in pvp, and the ones that are legitamitely lvl 50+ without rank farming/exploiting, have spent A LOT of time into the game.
While PVErs are fed new weapon/armor skins ever 2 weeks (not even mentioning all the already existing cool armor/weapons in PVE that are exclusive to PVE), PVPers have been fed the same items via tourney chests for almost a year now.
I would love for a dev to explain how that’s remotely fair to PVPers? Would you guys offend PVErs by giving them 100 glory every time they completed a dungeon or a event while taking their loot away?
We know that you guys are working on a new reward system which won’t hit until next year…but at least have the decency to try to put SOME incentive into the current reward system knowing that it won’t change for another few months…a small chance to get the new weapon skins and such would be amazing! Something as simple as that would make PVPers very happy already…or is that just too much to ask for?
I can’t give this post enough +1’s. I wish every dev was required to read this and thoroughly discuss it as part of their job and communicate their responses to it directly with the community.
I’m sure they’re going to come out with some BS excuse “well, if we gave pvp’ers rewards for their past efforts it will flood the economy with too much gold and cause inflation blah blah blah”
I have an idea guys, to make this fair they need to remove all rewards for PvE players and they’re only allowed to get halloween candy for everything.
When they complete a dungeon path they get 5 trick-or-treat bags. When they take a keep or tower in wvw they get 3 candy corn.
Hosting an all-thief 1v1 tournament. More details can be found here
In this thread you can discuss what would make for an interesting tournament rule-set. What particular rules do you think would be conducive to a fun tournament.
For this one I am planning on banning shadow arts and possibly shadow refuge. I just don’t want to see 2 perma stealth thieves kiting indefinitely. What do you guys think for other rules?
Thanks!
Why not the weapon skins? Why do we get jipped with pve mats we don’t want. Give us skins instead of forcing us to pve or buy gems.
Reply hazy, ask again later…
I realize it’s a complicated design choice for the dev team, but I (and a lot of the others in the pvp community) would really appreciate it if you guys would re-consider your decision not to implement Weapon Skins in chests this year. We loved that we had that chance last year so it would really mean a lot if PvP’ers had access to these skins outside of being forced to pve or pay real money. PvE’ers can at least transfer gold to gems to buy BLC keys whereas the pvp community cannot turn our currency into gems.
I do really appreciate you communicating with us though. Not so easy when we are pretty toxic in here.
what exactly can we get FROM these bags?
It’s now what we can get from these bag, it’s what we can earn by selling them.
That doesn’t answer my question. I wasn’t asking if what we get from them matters, I want to know what’s actually inside.

I’m a warrior, Whirl is a mother effer. Didn’t have to stand in it.
Yeah…times are tough for warrior right now… with things like berserker’s stance and perma stun and 1k health per second regen

After reading the title I can hear a witty dev thinking “Players, REMOVE immobilize”
..
…
….
Since you can just use 1 condi removal to get rid of an infinite stack of immobilize.
My poor humor at 5am
In a team spec it becomes exponentially more valuable than for solo play, especially the fact that you can stack immob duration.
The first spec that comes to mind would be a P/P Venom Share spec for team-fights. I’m predicting this will become extremely common in the near future.
What class would be OK to play with high latency?
At the moment bunker warrior and Guardian are the most forgiving.
I can see spirit ranger and necro being pretty solid in high latency too. Basically spam evades on CD for spirit ranger.
Hmmm, the point is to evade important abilities, with high latency by the time you dodge in reaction to what you see on screen it is too late. I think ranged classes in general might be a bit more forgiving though because with melee you might be hitting on screen but the enemy is not actually in range (makes C&D hard to land).
Well with the ranger you have perma-vigor, and if you’re running the meta spirit build with sb, s/d, you’ll have access to about 5(?) skill evades, as well as 3 immediate dodge-rolls (with energy sigil that is meta), and perma vigor. All of your evades are on an 8-16 second cd, so they’re almost always available when you swap sets. That being said, if you’re not spamming ‘most’ of your evades then you’re wasting them and taking unnecessary damage. Of course you’d be better to save some clutch dodges for combos and big skills.
Custom arenas are really only used for specialty rooms (which are now pretty inactive), and tournaments.
The leaderboards are working, but no one takes the Solo Q leaderboards seriously due to a flawed rating mechanic which predominantly puts the top 5 players in Q against the lower 5 in Q, thus creating a big mis-match in fights.
I do like both features, and hopefully the meta changes with tomorrows ‘huge’ skill balance update. ATM the meta is extremely stale.

The general consensus in the forums about match-making is that it’s pretty awful, especially in Solo Q.
The devs have vaguely openly recognized that there is a problem and have stated on several occasions that they’re working on modifying the existing system.
What do you expect from solo queue? It’s where people kitten and play whatever they want to. Demise plays his thief. AK plays his thief (Biebs). Toker probably plays his Ranger (no, just kidding, he only plays thief).
My point is… it’s not competitive and no one really cares about playing to be super competitive in solo queue. That can be due to lack of reward from ArenaNet which I’m sure they’re in the process of fixing.
Also, why do people refer to themselves as “Top 200 solo queue rank” or “Top 50 solo queue rank”? It’s solo queue, it shows nothing because of the lack of reward due to people playing alt classes, thus not 100% trying to win.
Yes, When I face Cmc/Ostrich Eggs/Toker/Ak on his engi/Bunker warrior I know for a fact these guys are just trolling and not trying to win. [Sarcasm]
It’s just as competitive south of 200 as any other gamemode, Build wars and Ts3 Servers all of that.
Although south of 200 it’s not a problem, since those bunkers still lose 1v1 to my thief (and other players DPS). In this meta, even as full DPS zerk, I can’t take down a good bunker with the assistance of another bunker on my team. So if I had gone mid to 2v1 it would have still been a stale mate. Regen from banner and signet means there’s nothing worthwhile to interrupt… except the other warriors interrupts…
That was definitely the most boring game of the night. I don’t know if the video showed it but it ended with 14 seconds left.
Oh, also, not to mention, but whenever ANYONE was downed on their team warbanners kept dropping from the sky. It doesn’t help that I can predict them because they auto-proc stability via trait on interrupt… or, you know, they’re not dumb and pre-cast stability to avoid the headshot.
For solo play it’s amazing since you have the best mobility in the game, can perma-blind all foes not immune to it (basically you’ll be in a group for the monsters that are immune/resistant to blind).
The cons being that you will die fast if you don’t know how to avoid damage.
The only thing i would fear is people running only bunkers to troll
Sure, then set a time limit and the team with the highest Damage Output wins. That’s my 5second solution to this problem. I’m sure there are tons of other great solutions.
And some kind of stealth reveal if gameplay is stalled for too long.
IMO you wouldn’t even need it. For one you could limit classes to 1 per type, and if they try to stealth the whole fight (arena should be small), you can aoe damage them. If they attack you they reveal themselves for 4 seconds , so you can immob/spike/cleave where he is. Regardless, if they’re stealth they’re not doing much damage, so you’d win for most damage as the match ends.
But definitely yes, a countermeasure to gimmick kitten like that should be in place.

Kultas lost and went to rank 1 on the EU lb
I don’t know of any names off the top of my head but I would check with the guild Unreal Aussies [uA], from my experience they are all very solid Australian players.
You want to encourage pve’ers to come pvp? Put 100g in every tourney chest. There would be 500,00 people pvping within the next 5 minutes.
Put 10g in each tourney reward chest and there will be 100,000 people flooding pvp within the next 5 minutes.
PvE’ers are not going to come for rank or glory, they’ll come for rewards that directly benefit them and their desire for shiny items.
lol
no thanks, not interested in giving pve’ers 10k rank per day. This is pve content and I have 0 interest in this whatsoever.
I think this quote alone will give me enough drive to continue PvPing in hopes that this revamp is going to be truly something special.
Honestly, I can’t wait to hear what we should be looking forward to (although I realize it is too early for that).
It’s to early? Players r begging for this since year and it’s still to early? They should have given some accurate details by now. Atm, I don’t know what actually I am waiting for. If I did, at least some, I would know that it’s worth my time spent. The most exciting thing to come for me r legendaries, coz I’d love to use Sunrise or Twillight on my mesm and Incinerator’s od thief (y, I’m still oldschool d/d bacstabber). I really would like to know if I can make it right away – to reward my over 1year time spent in pvp – or not. There’s little hope in me that I will be able to but we will see.
Rewards r important, playing for example 3-4h, some winning some loosing, doing this daily/few times a week since months is not so much fun anymore. It’s a bit boring already, although more FPS like active combat system is great. I feel unrewarded for my time spent (while my friend in pve, who left pvp in december got already 5 legends, and he started from nothing, true from 0 to hero) while I got my skills, few armors and bear finisher (earned hard in tpvp not kittenin’ skyhammer farm).
If the new reward system will fail, I’m out, not going to wait more months for improvements… Not to mention there should be much hot-fixes to some skills/traits, added template system etc, but nvm, this is about rewards.
Of course it’s too early, otherwise they would have told us info.
Does that mean I think it SHOULD be too early? Absolutely not, I wish as much as anyone else here that we could have ANY info on it outside of what they’ve already told us. Am I not allowed to express my gratitude that they’re even talking to us about this? If you check my post history I’ve been an extremely strong advocate of an updated and completely revamped reward system.
In working on rewards, we decided we wanted to do something that’s very work intensive and much cooler for PvP players

Seriously, your feedback to the community on these issues has an extraordinary impact on players like me. Especially in the absence of notable changes, it is good to know where the pvp dev-team’s intentions are.
Thank you for at least communicating with us about this.
How hard is it to make rewards for pvp? Just add few exclusive skins we can buy with glory since thats good for nothing right now why do we have to wait a months for rewards when pve gets it every 2 weeks…. You are not going to have any pvp players left by then. Just saying…..
We want to totally revamp the way rewards and PvP interact with the entire game, what you’re suggesting is relatively easy, but in the long run not what we think fundamentally will solve the core issue with PvP. We’re working on comprehensive fixes to help bring PvP and the sense of more reward more in with the rest of the game, rather than apply band-aids on a system we don’t really like anyway.
As for the skins, absolutely that’s one of things we’re discussing.
I completely understand where you’re coming from with this.
However, I truly believe pvp REALLY needs a bandaid ASAP. Even if it’s just something small by putting 1g in tournament chests, I think we’re at the point where we need some small glimmer of hope outside of “when it’s ready”.
I just like the screenshot, with our student thief crouched over in action and Lux standing there with weapons away explaining as they stare down the warrior about how cool it is to steal from that guy.
I want to find random PvE guys and stand outside of aggro range now and tell them what cool things the mobs have in their pockets.
Ahahaha this made my night.
Active? Caed for NA and Lady Nag Nag EU
I still think Jumper is the best even though he hasn’t been playing the past month. His technical finesse and awareness is phenomenal.
There are definitely about 10 other thieves off the top of my head just fractions of a point in skill levels below them (in my mental book of top thieves).

Make Heroes’ Ascent please
This and traditional GvG is all the pvp population truly wants.
So what would you like to see?
A “ready” button that appears before the match is created, and if someone doesn’t hit it within some time-window the match is aborted and both teams are returned to the queue? Perhaps the non-responding players kick out of the team, or kicked out of the entire queue?
One way would be to check your heartbeat every so often with a “are you still here” button, but that would be kind of annoying. It also doesn’t address the players who leave because they don’t like the team they are paired with.
We could just ramp up the dishonor system.
I know the team has their own thoughts on this, but I’d really like to see if someone here can come up with something awesome.
The main problem is not people leaving because their team is getting crushed. The huge problem is when someone enters Q, then the 2 min pre-match timer starts and then that person CLOSES the game and doesn’t get back on for whatever reason.
In this case I think if the player completely closes the game then the entire Q should be aborted for all 10 players involved. However, if the other player goes to character select to pick a different spec for that map/comp then it should not abort the match. I would MUCH rather deal with a few aborted games here and there as opposed to the 4v5 which is neither fun for the winning nor losing team.
We’re working on this right now. Hopefully it will be available in the next PvP drop.
One thing to keep in mind is we perform matching based on a Glicko v2 rating, not player rank. So even though higher ranked players also tend to have a higher rating, it isn’t always the case.
@Cheri Wolf
I wrote a simulator to test several different ways of solving the problem, one of which is the way you suggested, so I’m glad we’re on the same page. While that method improved things it also tends to weigh the match in favor of the first team. The current iteration we’re working on now is very similar, but greatly reduces the bias.
I agree that rank =! rating, although in this instance all of us on blue were in the 150-300 range. While I don’t know the rating of the enemy team, I seriously have my doubts it was anywhere reasonably close.
I attribute this to what the OP said, Oceanic times with 15 minute Q’s.
I really do appreciate the dev feedback on this issue though. Glad you are considering alternative methods!
You actually shoot higher than your previous standing if you’re gone for a long period of time, even if you lose your returning match.
500 matches…. 85 gold… 1 gold per match?
85/500 = 0.17
17 silver per match. Also I find this to be anecdotal evidence at best.
I know one guy who spent 500k glory on buying chests and salvaging them that guy now has carpal tunnel syndrome.
This.
Plus I have a hard time believing that you can make 400 dyes from 500 chests. Since you don’t even get 1 sliver or enough to craft one sliver from 2 chests most of the time.
Has anyone heard any updates on the upcoming reward system revamp?
The devs stated it was something we should expect to see implemented in the second half of this year, but the year is almost up.
The announcement said we would receive more information as the development for the new reward system made significant progress…
What do you guys think? Does anyone here know anything I missed? Or is this something we’re going to have to wait indefinitely for like crafting precursors?
I hate when you guys steal from me. =[
Also.. can I learn some thieving? Just started my sPvP practice with Thief yesterday and not too sure who to hit up about tips/info. Running with Arganthium’s Condition-Meta Countering Build to learn the ropes and I’ve been having so much freakin’ fun!
Arganthium is a very good S/D thief who can explain a lot. His build is a bit different than the meta S/D so it’s a good perspective to see from. Top thieves that come to mind are:
D/P: Jumper X (inactive), Caed (active but probably busy), Cruuk, reikou, Nettle, Kinjax (he mains S/D now though), Silent Sol. There are more but this is off the top of my head.
S/D: Jumper X, Caed (his main is D/P though), Magic Toker, Kinjax, Arganthium. I honestly don’t know/recall many S/D active anymore on the NA side. For lessons/training Kinjax and Arganthium are your best bets.
What is this business of “a top thief”? This is quite kitteny to come into a forum and post “a top thief” as if everyone knows anything about this shadow. The ones that advertise themselves get torn down the fastest.
I bet I could nail down this “top thief” >:) What say you good sir? A duel, or multiple?
if you don’t know ningyou you have never played guild wars 2 pvp
thanks for the comment.
I’ve played GW2 PvP, and I don’t know him.
Odd because I looked you up and you’ve never done Solo Q or Team Q… so you exclusively hotjoin?
Glad you found a lot of what I showed you helpful. I’m sure some of the other really good thieves could give you a completely different perspective on how the class can be used to it’s max potential, like Reikou. I just appreciate that you were so eager to improve your thief gameplay and learned so quickly.
Also the warrior steal is slightly out of context. While it’s an amazing steal in group fights you have to be wary of retal etc, but I was talking about 1v1 match-ups at the time. Wars have little access to retal in small scale fights and the stolen skill can reflect projectiles, which, if timed appropriately, can hard-counter longbow if they’re using it.
Other than that it’s also good for using in blindfields for AOE blinds at considerable range if you use it in a smoke field for the whirl finisher.
Personally I think the necro 3s steal is the best for what I do. Not only does it set you up perfectly for steal-BP-Fear-HS-BS, but if they’re low you can save it for the second they get downed: BP-Fear-Stomp, to prevent the team res.
gimmie 50s for all my tourney games plx.
I would have 1,500 Gold now if that was true for all the tourney wins and be as rich as a PVE player =]
And the sad part is you probably deserve more… most pve’ers who played as much as us have made 5k+++ in gold
I love ALL of these suggestions. Never even considered some of them (like selling tickets to spectate matches).
This is somewhat of an oddball topic… but it’s been on my mind the past week since I started streaming.
I realize the devs are completely revamping the current reward system and that’s fantastic, but one thing I would really like to see would be desirable, and transferable currency.
I want to be able to give away valued things to host tournaments and give-aways on my stream. If I were a pvp’er and invested my 3k hours into pve to make gold I’d have a tonnn of gold to give-away and many people would flock to my contests. I’d love to have some sort of valued currency to reward players in my tournaments or to bring more people to my twitch.
I realize many people don’t respect glory with the skyhammer ordeal, but ANY method would be fantastic. I don’t even care about those skyhammer farmers, I just want to have my hardwork transferable so I can host contests and give-aways.
As it stands right now, I have 2g to my name and would love to host tournaments with desirable prizes WITHOUT having to go to pve to farm gold, or shell out RL cash.
What do you guys think?
This is retribution for:
XXXX has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes! Europe maintains favor of the gods!
18 kills, 0 deaths
Why does K/D ratio matter in sPvP? almost instant respawn anyways. remember this is conquest mode, not deathmatch where K/D ratio obviously actually matters.
Because if I had died once, our team would have probably lost?
18 kills = 90 points worth of the winning score to victory. Count the lives I saved in team fights+ the points I gained through capping points and not letting the enemy get those points. From kills alone I gave my team 18% of the points to victory and gave the enemy 0 points. That’s not even considering the points I got from winning those fights to cap the points.
Do you understand how conquest works? Or should I really explain how 18 kills with 15sec respawn matters?
Edit: My apologies. I didn’t realize you haven’t ever pvp’d competitively in gw2. I’ll gladly explain how it’s useful via pm’s if you want.
