The difference is staff users did need those buffs. Dagger skills are already strong on both main and offhand. There was no need to improve this weapon when there is clearly a need for the other ones. The way it would help all eles is by adjusting traits and utilities and not buffing dagger that is already balanced. I don’t give a kitten about what anyone think about me or against anyone that complaints about these changes directed to dagger users. When you criticize someone you haven’t even met in person you only are criticizing yourself..

I wasn’t directly referencing you. I said it isn’t respectable for anybody to criticize this change period when the official notes aren’t even out. Call me naive, but I want to think something else is coming.

I am also saying as a whole, dagger dagger has INHERENT issues fighting any class which can kite it. This will be incredibly useful in helping its sustainability. I think it wasn’t balanced if it dies to every condi engineer or terrormancer necro it faces. With zero range, D/D needed real help in this Meta. I’m stating that as a fact.

Furthermore, although this will be used to run a little, it will mainly be a gap closer. Why? In close proximity, I won’t risk this skill for getting stuck in combat when running away. The burning tail is a fair trade off.

I think we’re all a little disappointed in this patch. regardless of what our playstyle is and what weapons we choose to use.

I definitely have some checkpoints I want to see hit. And I realize there’s disappointment, but it shouldn’t be taken out in this way. I’m happy to see any buff to elementalist.

Appreciate your responses, but so as to not get into an argument or drawn out discussion, I’m going to again say I disagree with a majority of your changes, and I hope the Devs don’t take a majority of them.

P.S. I didn’t realize you aimed to make DT an aim skill, that would be an acceptable reason.

People keep saying that. Truth be told, the only things that are truly game-changing are the scepter changes and maybe the updraft change.

Operate within the confines with which we have now, and you’ll receive better comments, and your ideas won’t seem so whacky.

I heard Phantaram put it rather well a little while ago with regards to “the elementalist confines” (I’ll paraphrase): the Elementalist is in a dangerous spot in which certain buffs or nerfs to anything would completely throw off the entire class.

At that, you’re giving a boat load of our skills cast times, ect. where they don’t need them. Mist form doesn’t need a damaging attack at the end..

You don’t damage someone with a chill-inflicting skill with a 61 base damage attack and a 0.2 damage coefficient; you make escapes with it. The [Mist Form] change is about giving the Elementalist more survivability by giving it some more in-combat mobility.

The change to cleansing fire is poor at best. Easily interruptible, and it’ll go unused just like ether renewal does for any D/D ele with a brain (in WvW).

Sure, but ether renewal doesn’t cure conditions on allies or knock back enemies. Having a knock-back and AoE condition removal that requires investment opens up the door to really neat plays for the Elementalist.

Lastly, I’ll end on the thing everybody is criticizing. The burning speed evasion. It is necessary, the skill already should have had it (continuity with burning retreat) and it gives D/D ele (such a fragile thing) a bit of an opener that can’t be stopped by a randomly swinging hammer warrior.

I’ll refer you back to what I’ve said below my [Burning Speed] comment. Truth be told, giving an offensive attack evasion frames is a DANGEROUS slope. It’s the reason why Thief is so stupid. ANet quickly realized that the Thief was a worthless profession because it couldn’t do anything without dying repeatedly, so, instead of actually designing a worthwhile profession that has a unique function or flavor on the battlefield, they just gave it huge damage, blind spam and evasion frames everywhere to make sure that it hit everything without instantly dying. It’s not a good paradigm. Giving [Burning Speed] evasion frames is step 1 on the way to making Elementalist into Thief 2.0 (as if scepter/arcane burst isn’t already that).

Being able to aim [Dragon’s Tooth] would be an enormous game-changer, the magnitude of which I don’t think that anyone truly comprehends. Because of that factor, having a targeted, 4-6k, 180-radius AoE damage bomb appear on the field once every 6—or even 4 3/4—seconds that also inflicts a hefty duration of burning is a scary thought from a balance perspective.

I like how you say “needing” instead of “getting”, Atherakhia. No wonder condi builds are as weak as they are. On top of a prohibitive stack limit and that’s just in 5mans, there’s just no scalability behind it beyond the (frankly overpowered) food.

If it were a food problem PvP wouldn’t be in month 10 of the worst condi meta any mmo has ever seen.

PvE is an entirely different problem and not worth discussing.

These are 32 words I agree with, Atherakhia. Conditions are absurd right now.

The only thing I saw here that I actually liked was a change to updraft. I think both updraft and churning earth deserve to be charge skills… They can be instantly used if you use them as such, but if you charge them they increase in power. Nice idea.

D/D eles didn’t complain about the buffs and fixes staff eles received when they received them.. We never said “This patch is a fail, why give them this!”

How can people be so petulant about this topic.

You can put it into terms as “Well that’s great for D/D users, but I feel this patch could be better if not only mainhand dagger was buffed, but also X.”

Nobody has done that. All I’ve seen are people who I thought were respectable complain about this.

Did MH dagger need a buff as bad as focus did? No. Should ANYBODY complain about MG dagger’s buff? NO.

It helps all eles overall in the long run.

Vick, I completely agree with the unprofessional stream. I was going bananas.. They laughed about dire gear’s overpowered status, laughed about destroying classes.. And it doesn’t help that they don’t know their own skills. I’ve memorized each of my classes skills, traits, and I don’t even work for the company. If I were in charge of balancing, I’d know all the classes by heart, and I’d play each class daily..

I have to say that twitch stream had me furious. I hope the final balance patch notes make sense, because patience is wearing thin.

It didn’t help that the entire stream was done in an incredibly unprofessional way, and the stream as a whole made it seem like ANet thinks balancing their game is one huge joke.

What is this ignorance? Warriors do not have 20 weapon skills. They have exactly twelve weapon skills available at all times, including the burst skills. Learn to Warrior.

On topic: RTL does not need a reversal of the nerf.

The skill is not really comparable to Rush. Sure, both have 1200 range, but rush does not track it’s target as RTL does. RTL is effected by knockdowns, but not by other movement imparing effects (such as cripple). Rush, on the other hand, is effected by all movement-impairing effects. RTL can be used to negate fall damage, and to even attack a foe from off of an elevation ( a cliffside) without taking the falling damage that would normally result, or to cross gaps that are too far to jump. Rush can do none of that. RTL has an AOE attack at the end of it, Rush has a single player attack, which does not even cleave. Both skills are buggy, but that is a bug issue and not a balance issue. Comparing RTL and Rush also ignores other factors related to balance between both professions.

RTL needs to be bug-fixed, as does Rush, but does not need a reversal of the previous nerf.

- Both RTL and Rush don’t track targets.
- Both Rush and RTL doesn’t give you ANY damage immunity.
- RTL is not affected by cripple/chill but not buffed by swiftness while Rush is affected by cripple/chill but buffed by swiftness. Compare how much time you’d be crippled/chilled to how much time you have swiftness.
- RTL does not negate falling damage.
- Both skills are buggy and is hard to hit but RTL rubberbands, Rush doesn’t.

This response is accurate. RTL SHOULD be compared to Rush. They’re a very similar skill, and Rush is on a super low cool down.

It does need a revert. It just doesn’t need a revert on distance. 1200 (unaffected by swiftness) is perfect.

I will note, 1v1 terrormancer necros can be nearly impossible to beat. You are right there. But they’re easy to escape.. You have to attack their circles of death. So that’s on the user of D/D.

Thanks Boonprot and Letoll. Dueling is most of what I do in this game; it sucks in spvp, so I’m glad you realize that too.

I don’t care how much it is, this non subscription game leaves me with a little extra cash, and maybe they’d pay more attention to WvW if they had a higher revenue from it.

Why dont you buy a ticked to have your own sPvP room? I dont know how it works but I know it exists and you can setup the rules of the match so you create a 1v1 arena…

And yes this exists, but it’s boring. Spvp isn’t the closet you can shove your duelers/roamers in.

Here’s an idea. I’d buy a permanent one of these for over $100..

Personal dueling scroll.

If you want to duel anybody, your server or another server, merely double click it while clicking their name. This cannot be used in combat.

If they accept, a portal spawns beneath you, and you are moved to a smaller obsidian sanctum instance. When you’re done, you can click leave instance, and go back to your spot in WvW.

If this also worked in PvE, I’d pay $200. Lol.

Wrong. Every good ele especially in pvp will at least run 10-20 arcane. And If you’re going 20 might as well go 30 for evasive arcana.

I’m not wrong, and don’t so quickly jump to saying so without reading the source on which I’m commenting. Leafy said “most eles are only using 10-20 in arcana.” I prescribe to the thought that those quoted words are false.

It seems as if you do as well, so perhaps you should amend what you’re saying.

Flame me all you like, but this is a goofy idea that I think they should have implemented at release, and is likely impossible now.

I wish you picked your race, your home area (not server) and each home area is very like each other one in that you have the range of maps inside it from 1-10 to 80.

I’ll use Maguuma Wastes as an example. If all players who selected Mag started there, it would create a sense of a ‘Nationality’ and a purpose for WvW.

If other areas could field their armies against Maguuma’s territory, and open field combat was a reality, it would be extremely unique and fun. Opposing armies would have to travel from their own ‘nation’ as would Mag’s forces. Havoc groups could sneak through enemy lines and wreak havoc on those small quest outpost areas (could be easily rezzed).

I just think it could have been a good option, especially since the servers were all named after an area in the game.

(World exploration and griefing could be fixed by giving every player a button only available when in their territory, toggling them from peaceful to aggressive. So aggressive people couldn’t attack the peaceful ones, and the peaceful ones couldn’t attack back.)

WvW - Three Likes & Three Hates

Prefaced by — I’m a 100% WvW roamer.

My likes are:

1.) The ability to have random encounters where you aren’t placed on a deadline or necessity to capture points. So variability in encounters. This isn’t possible in SPvP.

2.) The variations in builds you see because you can choose each armor piece. This isn’t possible in SPvP.

3.) The fact that no matter who is winning, who is losing, you now have Obsidian Sanctum to duel in. THANK YOU.

My dislikes:

1.) The prevalence of conditions. This includes the ridiculousness that is immobilize stacking, the irony that is +40% condi duration food and the ease with which condi builds can be executed — that is due to only one stat which modifies their damage, so they can put to use three stats: condi damage, toughness and vitality. No other build can do this. It is FAR too easy.

2.) Zergs. What more needs said? They need a debuff for traveling in such unorganized and filthy blobs. This zerg point includes the AoE cap.. A five man team should more than be able to hold off a 40 man unorganized zerg at a choke point. Think of the Seals and how they have fought outnumbered in numerous occasions. If you want the game to survive, you have two options. Dismantle zergs or promote ways to BUST zergs. And no, siege isn’t the answer; its the cowards way out.

3.) The grind which WvWers have to do in order to keep the latest gear, or achieve legendary gear. Each time I’m in Obsidian Sanctum, I’m slaying people with legendaries. They aren’t skilled, they just have money from PvEing. Why isn’t there WvW ascended, and PvE ascended gear. And why aren’t there WvW legendaries? I’ve killed thousands upon thousands of players without a zerg blob to shield me. I’d like to look good while doing it, but I don’t get enjoyment out of PvE. Why log on to a game and do unpleasant work?

At that, I want to thank you Grouch for extending your hand and asking for these lists. I hope they’re taken seriously. Some people here really do know this game, and I consider myself one who does know the small man side of WvW super well. There are those of us who are super concerned about the future. Let our worries subside.. Hire more people to work on WvW — PLEASE!

No one duels in OS anymore ?

I think mag is pretty well known for its roamers/duelers, so many people go there to seek us out.

I’m not sure about every other server. Since they released OS, we’ve only fought like 4 unique servers I believe. Each has fielded a force against us but one.. And in our current matchup against FA and YB, we’ve got lots of action there.

Polls are great, but they can get muddled with order bias. How about this – create a thread that asks for players to list their three favorite things about WvW, along with their three least favorite things. “Hey ArenaNet, do more of this, less of that.”

My 2c is if someone does this, keep tabs in the main thread every 10 or so posts, and list the top desired things from top to bottom. I’d be happy to do it, but I’d need someone to let me know if its already been done.

I have not much to add here. I can’t tell if I’m biased or not…

D/D is my weapon set of choice, as everybody knows. The weapon set isn’t as well rounded as some may think. This buff will be a good one, and I think every ele should b happy for the change.

My opinion is every attune should have defensive and offensive skills. Until now, I hardly could have said burning speed was defensive. I’m sorry but too many classes can easily catch us in combat, and burning speed puts you into combat more often than not; your fire tail is unfortunate.

I can say now fire will have a defensive skill, and water will have a new use offensively and defensively with its blast finisher.

There’s no doubt that these are good buffs, but why do people keep calling them overpowered? They aren’t even here yet. The evade frame isn’t going to be that long, and it will protect you more when attacking, just so you can land your attack for once. Yes, I’ve figured out how to land BS on more than one good opponent, but it hits infrequently enough that a buff was merited.

I’ll also say.. This skill just looks like it should have an evade on it. That it didn’t baffled me. When I was learning the class, I thought it did.

So yes, perhaps I’m a little biased, which is why you can take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I just don’t think eles as a whole should ever complain about the paradigm shift from nerfing to some buffs.

We are supposed to work together, and it’s unfortunate to see some of my favorite eles on the forum bickering.

Nex sorry i missed your posts in all this bickering like you said. Just like I told ozi, even if we are biased, there is nothing wrong with that in a game. It is perfectly understandable that dagger users feel glad to get this buff and I’m glad ele are getting buffed overall instead of more nerf. I just would prefer the buffs to start with traits/utilities and specially to the weapon skills that are weak instead of improving the ones that are already stable/powerful.

Oh no problem. I just dislike to see friends bicker, even if they have differing opinions.

Perhaps instead of calling for a premature nerf, you suggest other skills are looked at as well? I don’t think any other MH Dagger skills need a buff (other than earth 1), so perhaps if you spent your energy petitioning other weps also receive buffs, everybody would be peachy. Also, you don’t have to rationale any farther than “If you were willing to buff one weapon, why not buff others?”

oZii is right in the fact that D/D ele’s aren’t strong enough to merit nerfs, and I’m quite good at them. I know my limitations, and I know that this will certainly help me, but not as much as people give it credit for.

For example. If I used this defensively, I’d have to sit in fire, and wait for an attack, then press three to dodge it. The other form of defense is running away, and that is going to make it decent there, but it will STILL be putting you into combat.

So it makes more sense to use it offensively, where several frames of evade aren’t going to bring D/D ele over the top.

Look at thieves that can spam evade.. And they still can be brought down.

I think a lot of us are concerned about the future of the game with the lack of communication, large amount of inaction and the huge shifts in play style which are led by the patches which make people grind.

I have not much to add here. I can’t tell if I’m biased or not…

D/D is my weapon set of choice, as everybody knows. The weapon set isn’t as well rounded as some may think. This buff will be a good one, and I think every ele should b happy for the change.

My opinion is every attune should have defensive and offensive skills. Until now, I hardly could have said burning speed was defensive. I’m sorry but too many classes can easily catch us in combat, and burning speed puts you into combat more often than not; your fire tail is unfortunate.

I can say now fire will have a defensive skill, and water will have a new use offensively and defensively with its blast finisher.

There’s no doubt that these are good buffs, but why do people keep calling them overpowered? They aren’t even here yet. The evade frame isn’t going to be that long, and it will protect you more when attacking, just so you can land your attack for once. Yes, I’ve figured out how to land BS on more than one good opponent, but it hits infrequently enough that a buff was merited.

I’ll also say.. This skill just looks like it should have an evade on it. That it didn’t baffled me. When I was learning the class, I thought it did.

So yes, perhaps I’m a little biased, which is why you can take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I just don’t think eles as a whole should ever complain about the paradigm shift from nerfing to some buffs.

We are supposed to work together, and it’s unfortunate to see some of my favorite eles on the forum bickering.

Yeah, they should at least revert Bountiful Power (10% max damage) and Cleansing Water. Using a trait you need a stopwatch or luck to use isn’t good. If Cleansing Water removed 1 condition every 5 secs, I could approve of it. Or 2 every 10 secs. Guardians have purity (adept, 1 condi/10 secs) and rangers empathic bond (grandmaster, 3 condis/10 secs w. living pet). That way you wouldn’t have to worry about an invisible timer.

This so much. The only thing that ever made cleansing water worthy of a grandmaster trait was that you could time a few regen abilities at the same time to remove more than 1 condition instantly. Now that it only removes 1 condition at the same time, and you have to internally count 5 seconds cooldown to time the next regen ability, it’s not worthy of a gm trait anymore (especially with elemental attunement getting moved to master tier).

Mind you this is only SPvP. It works wonders in wvw.

There’s a chance for that. Thanks for responding. oZii predicted they’d change rune of water to give the full 45% now, and they’d compensate that way.

This patch could screw up my build, or it could buff it. I won’t take high night duration if it means sacrificing toughness or regeneration. I love perma regen.

I also rely on fury from attunement swaps

So we will see. I am trying to have confidence they’ll do this in a way which is positive for eles. As they seemed excited to buff them.

The two things concerning me at this point are: the eles who made celestial gear could see heavy handed nerfs in it and the potential jump in condition tanks.

It always will influenced by PvE because Anet considers WvW as part of the PvE environment. The subject has be gone over quiet a bit since launch and Anet have always re-iterated its stance that this is the case.

I’m suggesting this changes…. If people asked for this half as much as they asked healing signet to be nerfed in WvW, we’d have a separate game balance.

WvW and PvP should be considered the mists, and their balance should be lumped together, allowing PvE changes to only harm/change PvE.

I think all PvP changes which separate it from WvW should be rolled back, and the game modes should be balanced together. That’s just my personal opinion, but balancing for the mists together, you could also go the other way and keep some separation.

As it is now though, I believe WvW is suffering from PvE changes. They won’t nerf conditions because they’re already UP in PvE, but news flash, they’re super OP in WvW, and nerfing crit damage will only serve to strengthen them.

I said this idea in another thread and it never picked up steam. Hopefully people will show their support for this.

Well I think runes and boon duration will be interesting I’ll be taking a look at all the runes. I predicted that the 4 pieces bonuses would become more reliable. So that is good have to see what else comes.

Using the example from stream we would be looking at something like

Rune of Strength:
1) +25 power
2) 10% might duration
3) 50 power
4) 15% might duration and 25% might proc on hit
5) 100 power
6) 20% might duration, +5% damage under might.

So 45% duration from one set.

So we could be looking at the new go to rune for boon duration
Speculation on Rune of Water Change

Rune of Water
(1): +25 Healing Power
(2): +10% Boon Duration
(3): +50 Healing Power
(4): 15% boon duration and 25% chance to remove a condition when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +90 Healing Power
(6): 20% boon duration and When you use a healing skill, you and your allies are healed for a small amount. (Cooldown: 10s)

I think Water and Monk will become the go to boon duration Runes if you want the +45% boon duration you have to take the full set though. This is just my own speculation.

Ozii if you’re right on this, I owe you a duel or two lol. I love my +45% boon duration. Everything else is superfluous.

Based on the recent ready up, here are some of my thoughts on the upcoming buffs and nerfs to Ele.

I’ve got to say, I’m happy to hear them merging the bridge between WvW and PvP a little. I hate the massive gap between the two. Its kept me out of PvP in some situations, so cheers.

They are removing our SoR nerf in PvP, which is great. They are changing sigils, which will buff all classes, but energy and battle will be great together on Ele.

They’re buffing Armor of Earth. Its still got far too long of a cooldown IMO. But this is positive.

They’re making Burning speed an evade. This needed to happen, but I’m impressed to see them add this.

They are adding regen on water’s scepter (Three skill I believe), which is good (But not as positive as they made it out to be).

Nerfs I see coming on the side of eles:

Crit dmg nerf. That’s not good for my style of play.

Boon Duration nerf on runes. You’ll only be able to go 10/10/10.

Largest problem.. They’re not nerfing conditions.

This passive is part of what allows eles to be so great. I love it.

When they un-nerf it, I predict they’ll un-nerf our grandmaster water trait. That’s what really makes this heal shine.

If you say it isn’t good, you haven’t tried it out.
