Umh. The crafting part is minor compared to aquiring the prerequisites. I am looking forward to the hunt.

That’s just it. You need to acquire (read: grind) the prerequisites so you can craft it. They’re eliminating the luck-based component of the game and replacing it with token-based (sure, but slow) component. Boring, repetitive, often time-gated and no jump-for-joy effect after you get the lucky drop.

So, with the release of the expansion, we’ll be able to craft precursors, too! Wheeeeee!
Really, that’s so utterly boooooooooring. Everything of importance is craftable. I think GW has more recipes than minecraft now.

Regarding the precursors, they should’ve just removed the option of getting a precursor from the Mystic Toilet and increase drop rates from world bosses to, say, 1%.

I wonder what new recipes are waiting for us behind the corner!! Can’t wait for the expansion!

Magic Find Affecting Chests Clarification

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Hi,

this was bothering me for a while, so I just wanted to share my findings. Then again, maybe I’m just stating the obvious. Let me know if I’m wrong.

What does Magic Find affect? Wiki says that MF affects only loot from killed enemies. It does not affect containers (champion bags, heavy moldy bags…) and chests.

This “chests” thing was confusing to me, because many champs leave a chest behind them. But these chests weren’t classic world or environmental chests. These chests were just an indicator that the champ left behind an exotic item. So how come when I looted that chest I didn’t get an exotic item? That’s because I looted a champ bag, which is an exotic item in itself, but its contents are often not.

Next, MF does kick in when killing a champ and it does affect the loot its corpse leaves behind, because you loot the champ, not its chest (because in many cases champs don’t have a classic fixed chest they guard). Remember that the chest the champ leaves behind is just an indicator of at least one dropped exotic item.

So, world bosses chests and other placed “environmental” chests aren’t affected by MF, and those champ chests are only an indicator of an already generated and ready-to-be-looted exotic item.

Hope I helped someone.

Loot-Generating Trigger

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Hi,

when is loot generated, on a monster kill or on a monster loot?

So, if I kill a monster, does its corpse already contain pregenerated items or do these items generate on loot action?

My guess is immediately on monster death, because those chests that appear when there is a rare or exotic item appear over its corpse immediately, as if the loot is already defined.

Hi,

it happens sometimes that a chat message isn’t shown while the chat window is transparent. If I make the chat window opaque (so that the scroll bar is displayed) then the message is shown. If I make it transparent again, it is hidden. Don’t know why does it occur, it seems at random.

It only affects some chat messages, not all.

I Like GW2 Business Model

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Hi,

I just wanted to say that I’m starting to like GW2’s business model more and more. Since I have limited playing time (about an hour a day) this model suits me just fine. Pay for the game once, no monthly subscription, gem store with only cosmetic and convenience items, trading gems for gold… It’s really a good business model, imho. Basically, there are two groups of people, those with plenty of time, and those with very limited free time. Those with plenty of free time can farm gold/gems for free, while others can pay for gold. It’s a win-win, actually. ANet gets money, I get gold for money (instantly), others farm gold/gems for free. Actually, ANet even gets more than $10 a month from me this way. I spend about $20 a month. There was also this one time I even spent $100 on gems (char bags, bank slots, char slots, infinite gathering tools…).

Just a compliment.

WvW Exploration Progress Reset

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Hi,

I’ve logged into the game after about three months of inactivity. What I noticed when I entered the WvW is that all exploration progress was reset for me! All three server battlegrounds/realms, along with Eternal Battlegrounds was reset! I had 100% exploration on all four maps three months ago.

How come?

I’ve submitted a support ticket, but even after about 10 days I’m still waiting for a response.

Anyone else experienced the same issue?

Thanks

Progress on two maps was set back to 100% about three weeks ago, but still not on the other two. I sent another support ticket about two weeks ago, but nothing yet.

What If Luck Affected Chests, MF, Everything!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Currently, luck supposedly affects only loot from killed monsters. Well, what if luck started to affect loot gotten from boss chests, mystic forge, etc.?

Picture this: you start the game with 0 luck and with the standard poor drop rates. As you play the game more and more, you slowly, but surely build up your luck. In about a year or two, you max out your luck (it could be made time-gated), and if you were really unlucky with drops in the beginning, you will start to notice an increase in quality loot drops. Luck Essence source should be changed to some soulbound source or such, so that it doesn’t happen some rich ppl buy out all blues and greens off TP.

The effect is that the more and longer you play, you have better odds of getting quality items (those really rare ones, such as precursors). Maybe it could be designed in a way that luck affects all sources, but only soulbound items, so that you cannot sell them on TP. Maybe one consequence would be to make some items soulbound (precursors and such)…

What are your thoughts?

Thx

Edit: Luck maybe even shouldn’t have upper limit, but, to compensate that, it should increase more slowly. Roughly, maybe double the chance per year played (if it is made time-gated).

[Suggestion] Regular Fractal Bags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Currently, there exist green, yellow and orange fractal bags (obtainable via fractal relics). What’s annoying about them is that “Compact” feature in inventory doesn’t compact items in them. Personally, I own 7 green fractal bags, but because of Compact not working as I hoped to, I’d trade them for regular “white” bags. So, my suggestion is to add white fractal bags or to somehow “fix” Compact so that when all of my bags are the same, items compact.

Cost of Crafting 1H vs 2H = Not Fair

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

I just want to say that it is not fair for a one-handed ascended weapon to cost 500 dragonite ore, 3 deldrimor steel and 3 spiritwood planks, the same as a two-handed ascended weapon. Even if I craft an one-hander, I don’t do near the dmg, and lack two skills. But, two axes would cost twice as much, as opposed to a greatsword.

It seems fair for single-handed weapons to cost half the cost of a two-handed weapons, since you can’t do much with only one weapon, escpecially a warhorn, for ex.

Breaking FoTM Party - Remove it pls

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Right now when you create a party for FoTM you have a host player that opens the fractals. The problem is that if that player leaves the party the other 4 players are kicked out of the fractals and all progres is lost. I think that this is flawed mechanics.

Today we had a random party gathered using the ingame LFG and we went trough all 3 fractals and on the bonus fractal the host left and we did not get to fight for the daily chest. So if we wanted to get the daily we had to start all over.

Remove this host player thing so if anyone leaves the party we can just invite a new player to fill in the spot and continue playing instead of starting over.

Yeah, this happened to me several times, and it’s extremely annoying :@. Can’t believe they still didn’t fix it.

I once started a post where I strongly disagreed to change the way you get a precursor. I still disagree, because farming for mats and having a certain way for obtaining everything is boring as hell. It also takes so long. This, at least, keeps you on your toes, AND you have that “jump-to-the-roof” effect if you get lucky enough. If you think gambling is not your style, then save the gold, and buy a precursor. End of story.

Meehael.8240

Hi,

The moment came when I am finally able to craft an ascended weapon. What I’ve just noticed is that a greatsword costs the same as a sword! I believe it isn’t fair that a char with a greatsword as a primary weapon gets to spend half materials as opposed to a char that uses two axes or two swords as primary weapons, because the greatsword provides double the attributes and sigil slots over a single-handed weapon.

Edit: that’s what the wiki says about costs. I don’t have the opportunity to check it out in-game.

[Suggestion] Trait/Skill/Equipment Templates

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Meehael.8240

Meehael.8240

Hi,

I would like to suggest a template system for Traits, Skill Bar and Equipment. This is nothing new, all of these already existed in the original Guild Wars.

For those unfamiliar with it, you would be able to select traits and save them as a template. Later, you could quickly change your traits by selecting previously saved template, so there would be no need to remember which traits you used for which role. Same thing for skills and equipment. This is only natural since traits are now free to reset.

I would suggest server-side storage of templates (cloud), not locally, so that I have access to all templates, no matter what computer I use. This is different from GW.

Thank you

  • Essences of Luck are account bound.
  • They count for every character.

I like that luck is now account bound other than having to equip it like we had to at some point, that was a nice change.

I stumbled across the celestial prefix (“of the sky” suffix) today. I play a DPS (zerk) warrior with berserker/rage gear. With having the upcoming critical damage nerf in mind, should I make an ascended weapon with celestial or berserker prefix? Celestial gives a total of 252 attribute bonus (I’m talking about ascended mace), while berserker only 161 (crit dmg excluded). Sure, full berserker gear gives double power bonus, but celestial gives vitality, toughness, condition dmg, healing power which comes in handy.

ANet, please give us, the old players, another chance of obtaining the Gift of Battle the old way for at least a day or two. Give us a decent notification in advance.

It is only fair.

Hi,

what’s the best way of obtaining them? Farming, promoting T5 mats into T6 or something else (besides TP)?

Thx

Subscription-based Guild Wars 2

So, would you pay $10 a month for the game if the Gem Store ceases to exist, no need to buy bag and bank slots, expand this, expand that. Pay for boosters of various kind. Buy unlimited mining picks. What not…
That would probably also include less time gating, maybe a bit higher drop rates… You name it!

In short, you get a full service for $10 a month. I’d say if the game’s good, I’d pay that money.

I’m going to go a little off topic here. Rant incoming.

I don’t understand. Every subscription based MMO I’ve played had a cash shop in it too.

Aion was pay to play, and it had a cash shop. You could only buy black and white dye for your armor with real cash. There were a couple of weapon/armor skins too in their cash shop that you had to buy with real life money if you wanted them. There was no money conversion either. So even if you had a ton of “kinah” (in game money), you couldn’t buy things out of the cash shop. Cash shop was credit card only.

Tera was pay to play, and it had a cash shop. Want a cool mount that moves faster than the in game mounts? $25.00. Twenty-five real life dollars. There also was no conversion system in that game either, so even if you had tons of in game money, you couldn’t convert it to real life money to buy things out of the cash shop. The only thing you could do was use game money to pay off your monthly subscription.

Let’s look at a few other popular MMOs-

WoW is still pay to play and has a cash shop.
Lord of the Rings Online, when it was subscription based, had a cash shop – still does.
Eve Online, which is subscription based, has a cash shop.
Oh look, Rift was subscription based, and had a cash shop – still does.
Star Wars, The Old Republic was sub based and had a cash shop. Still has a cash shop.

Oh, hate to burst this bubble even more, but The Elder Scrolls online will be subscription based, and have a cash shop.

Why do people think that if an MMO is subscription based, they won’t have cash shops? I think Anets cash shop is very fair. Most everything in it is cosmetic and unnecessary. If you can’t buy it with real $, you can always convert gold to gems. Best cash shop in a game I’ve seen so far. Now, if we could only get rid of the BLTC RNG boxes in it, then it would be perfect.

Aion? Tera? Rift? Lotro? Those games aren’t actually a positive example, if you get my meaning. I’m not sure if cash shop was the culprit of their downfall, but it could be one of the factors. Regarding EVE, I played that game for a long time and stuff in there is exclusively cosmetic. But even all that cosmetic thing is only to be seen on your profile pic, because there is no walking around and showing off your new clothes (at the time I played the game).

It’s going to be very interesting to see how ESO will fare among competition.

LOL I don’t get the point of this thread, you can still “earn” your gift of battle without ever setting foot in WvW, all you need is laurels and badges which you can “earn” just doing achievements while PvE’ing, only problem (which is really not a problem) is its a bit more on the time gated side if you lack laurels, so sadly you can’t have it right now, but chin up! 40 days and 2 monthlys should be more than enough time to get you your 60 laurels and enough AP to get everything you need, and you never have to step foot in WvW!

Why didn’t you say that earlier! Geee!

WHAT!? I have 479 badges of honor! If I knew what was about to happen, I’d play for a bit longer and buy it before the disappointing nerf. I didn’t read anywhere about this until after the release of the patch. Typical. Talk about a stab in the back. That should be front page news weeks prior the patch!
