Think of all the casual players, they work all day, have kids and want to enjoy playing in the evening. Clearly unlocking relevant waypoints is asking too much of them. I think all WPs should be unlocked on first character creation.

Maybe not on the first character but for the following ones for WPs you have discovered. Even if it were only a subset (like the ones on either side of a tunnel/gate) it would be handy.

Lots of options for getting around. You only really need them in Orr where the monsters are designed to discourage straight-up running past them.

Thanks, I forgot about stealth and such. I am used to figuring out a clear path and booking it past any monsters (my ele is covered with sigils and runes to grant more speed).

Through either the wiki or a prior character you can know ahead of time where the WPs are at and any gotchas around them (like champ spawn points). I still take the strategy of zipping around a zone when I first enter it and only am concerned with getting the most waypoints unless I can not help it … it makes things so much easier the next time I am in the area, especially if the WP I wanted to use is blocked because of a battle.

I think it is wonderful how anet is going with inclusion. Would I love to see more of pretty much any type? Of course! I do see the problem of having to cater to everyone though and different cultures .. so that affects things somewhat. Still though, it is not like most other games where everyone is a red-blooded white male heterosexual. You can put a tick in practically every marginalized group, even if not in every intersection of groups.

What bugs me is geographical changes. While most things I can buy if they were airlifted (even if some changes are a bit of a stretch) other things are less explainable. A key one being the area around the path to Bloodtide Coast. While you can explain part of it away with ‘oh, they infilled it’ each way I look at it brings problems, like the water level would not have changed.

My mesmer is stuck after doing the level 30 sequence and joining the order of whispers. As much as I would like to see Tybalt again I know each time I did it would be one step closer to his death. Sure, it would not hurt as much as the first time but I prefer to think he lives on somewhere whenever I encounter someone selling apples (the scene between the progeny and skritt stealing apples was priceless).

I am part of a organised Tequatl team. We aren’t one guild but around seven different guilds that meet up on TS and talk about tactics. We let others join our Team speak but find most people don’t bother but we spam map chat with what and how to do its.
I found our best tactic was making sure all the AoE wasn’t on our Melee zerg so we split into two groups (One Melee and one Ranged). The ranged spot would have around 10-15 people who could pierce or use explosions and at 1000-1200 range.
Plus we made sure some of us had reflects so the fingers by the turrets couldn’t hit any of the DPS groups. Then we have a group of 5 roaming around the outside taking out the fingers.
(Edit: Our Ranged group stood directly behind the DPS group and under Tequatls head)
Our best time we did it after the patch and after the Guard trait was above 6 mins remaining without a full map. It can be done but I find the lack of organisation and people saying “OMG GG NOOBS, WE FAILED” isn’t the best way to kill him.

I use my ele most of the time for teq. During the defensive phases I attune to fire for the most damage to the undead spawns. During the offensive phases I am attuned to water most of the time to spread healing to the zerg (why I was so upset that they nerfed the range of healing mist).

Another thing I do during boss fights is switch my chat window to showing damage (nobody will be shouting anything useful as all their hands are over action keys). That way I can gauge if I am close enough to where the current need is to be helping.

Given how teq is split into offensive and defensive stages being able to switch to each really helps.

Awful Female Human Heavy Armor Art Design

My female Charr guardian seems to always have pauldrons designed for male characters. The usual tell-tales between males and females do not exist as much with the Charr but every heavy pauldron skin I have seen has been so overly large I can only imagine what the equivalent on other races would look like.

I am guessing anet uses a mesh that will correspond to things like height. Why not be more fitted to the character shape?

Sorry for the sarcasm. As much as I don’t want a return to the EQ days with everything one could do in PvE taking forever and being tedious as all get out, it seems to me that as developers introduce more and more convenience into games, some players keep demanding more. It’s a trend I’m not fond of.

Yes, You can get most WPs with little trouble. Probably the biggest exceptions are in Orr and the one in Mount Maelstrom.

I would like to see a way to get to at least some of those WPs that did not have a high likelihood of your dying though. Like the Rally Waypoint in the Straits of Devastation. Unless you do it during the event chain you have to swim and try not to put your fist through the screen.

Wait.. wait…

Are people joining Teq maps 5 minutes before and expecting a success?

Ironically, they seem to be the people that think Teq always succeeds too.

Hint: if you have been fighting Teq for 10 minutes, there are bone walls and nearly 100% health, and a few turrets are unmanned you may as well find another event. That is not being fatalistic, that is being realistic.

no, this will not only hit AFKers, but also casual players. I think it shows a very elitistic mindset to add even more difficulty to the game. It is almost unbearably hard as it is in PvE.

Where are you PVEing that you regularly get broken armor? As soon as anything in my armor gets even dented I stop at the next armor repair spot. I think I have had broken armor twice and those were probably fighting bosses and such.

Ugg … AFKers. At least go somewhere safe and out of the way.

Yesterday one person went afk in a place where undead spawn an event frequently. Obviously someone that had been around based on his title so he should have known better. The first time I revived him not realizing he was afk. After that I decided to wear my dorito for a few minutes (even though I was still leveling to 80) so people would not make my mistaken assumption that he was the one there who knew what they were doing.

If you think unlocking the (dragon that gets filtered) WP wait until you have the ‘fun’ of unlocking the less-dangerous WPs in Orr. Unless you happen to be running with a group prepare to be running all the way from zombies until you cry SAFE then do it all over again for the next time. I had to do that yesterday with a new level 80 mesmer and fortunately there was a party relatively nearby when I died before I could unlock the one WP on the far side of cursed shore that would not get me killed.

With the exception of Orr usually the first thing I do with a character when they get to the level for a map is run around getting as many WPs as possible. Then take my time getting the rest of the map and if there is a daily there I have a good chance of having the WP that is called.

There were a few more posts by her, more or less asking the same thing repeatedly. Of course in the end the thread went south and they decided to close it.

The problem is threads like that start very much on-topic to GW2. In this case, thanking a gamemaker for an NPC that exactly fit what a previous thread has asked for. So she would not have thought to put it in an off-topic area.

Unfortunately trolls abound on the net so threads that are on-topic can wind up not being so.

The last Teq run I did I counted around 23 dead player icons near his feet.. they remained there for the entire.. battle waiting to be revived…

I never could figure out why people do that. In regular PVE where not much is going on around you? Sure, actually I get a bit miffed when I run over to revive a downed player and they tp out.

In battle though? Pay a couple silvers (which is what … a 1/10th of a penny) and just WP already then run back. You can get back to the battle faster. Not to mention your being there probably is keeping the boss scaled up.

Just make a really small character with a young looking face.. and pretend you are a young character..

Actually, that is what people do in second life (although now the fashion is using customized meshes). Because of someone doing a mistranslation of feet to meters the average adult is like 8 feet tall. Combine this with a lot of avatar customization options all set to at/near 0, Then add different skins and hairstyles so they do not all look alike.

I agree with the OP. While I appreciate suggestions like the pros and cons of different weapons for a profession (not that I always do exactly what people think is the “best” but take it as a suggestion) I do not care about maxing my DPS and such. I want what fits my playstyle. That is as bad as when I used to play an online war game and had to worry 24/7 about some enemy launching an attack on me when I was sleeping or such, the fun was gone and the stress went up. I really like that random people can show up at something like a boss fight and form an impromptu team.

If large guilds find it fun to be organized and do something, fine (although it feels like farming to me at some point). By random chance, I have shown up at events they were doing and it was refreshing compared to people who were mostly afk actually. It just feels like more and more things are going that way. Since those guilds are organized (for which I applaud them actually) presumably they know each other to one extent or another. I prefer to get the luck of the draw to who has my back,. sometimes random strangers, sometimes one of those guilds, as it just seems more fun that way.

I guess that takes me out of the running as a “hardcore gamer” by some people’s definition. So what? I still enjoy playing it in almost all of my free time. Actually, I would say their definition is warped. The idea of a game is to have fun (and presumably a lot of time/energy devoted to it) rather than to push a predefined series of buttons.

Good. People have gotten too complacent with Teq. This event was designed specifically for people that wanted more challenge and coordination.

It really doesn’t take much either. A couple good defense teams. Players running a proper Teq build and not their usual zerk. Seriously, go PVT with a support build, stack the zerg tight and go overboard on condi-cleanse, healing and stability and you’ll do fine.

And kill those fingers! Mesmers get your feedback up! Walls! South turrets cleanse the zerg please!

Aww, I miss my Teq commanding days.

My fave line from another commander when setting up teq: “I hate zerg duty.”

I usually am on my elementalist. So during the offensive phase I am water most of the time so I can heal people while doing damage then attuning to fire when running back to the defensive phase. The fun ones are when I missed f1 while running back and splash some zombie near a battery.

Because I happened on a map with an organized guild today we did great. Because of changes from the patch (“what the, my range is not that low”) I got distracted and died 3 times. Then was revived, which I never saw ppl do with teq before. To say I was highly embarrassed would be an understatement!

It has become an “organized only, pugs need not apply” kind of event. Just as it was shortly after the Teq Rising change – and those weren’t good times at all.

I had to actually ask someone what pug was tonight as I had never heard it used before now.

I decided to give the new teq a try. Usually when I go it is nowhere close to organized with myself and some other commanders yelling to all the afk’ers that ANYone needs to control the turrets. By a fluke I happened on a map that was being ran by an organized guild and we were done in plenty of time for the maw.

sigh

I’m all for Teq being a challenge – not impossible or a pain. A 50% buff would have been fine.

Look, I understand the want for challenge, I do. I also understand the majority of the player base has the attention span of a skritt. If I have to spend an hour before hand hoping and stressing that I get into a good map, taxi around, hope the other 99 players know what they’re doing, and pray I don’t DC for a spoon and a 1 in 100 chance of something good IF we even succeed, I’m more likely to pass.

And this hurts because Teq is my favorite world boss, I have fought Teq since Tequatl Rising debuted and fighting him is one of the ways I blow off steam and de-stress. I’m not saying “Oh let’s have him be super easy” but geez… I have yet to see him succeed in a map I’m in since the ‘fix’ and this is coming from someone who normally fights him 1-3 times a day and loved it =/

Yes …. although if they increase the buff they should increase the reward. For all of the times I have done it most of it was junk. That much time in the SW would have netted a fair bit better except for the chance of an ascended weapon.

Some of the “organization” though is like herding cats. Which makes hard bosses that much harder. One of my recent pres:

1) [various map chats from commanders that not all turrets were controlled by someone]
2) I map chat the South Hills needed more people.
3) After a few minutes I tag up just to attract people.
4) Nobody arrives so I figure I might as well leave my tag on anyway as maybe someone will decide to run towards me during the defense stages.
5) Now I am yet another commander saying we need someone on turrets a,b, and c or the event will fail.

That is not uncommon. It is like people just want to fill up the map, hope others do the work while they are afk, then collect the loot because they got in a couple shots before dying. It is pretty obvious what is going on when you see a lot of dead player icons on your map.

ARGH!!!!

I used to be able to hop out out of WVW and be able tu run right over to get my armor patched up, grab a couple of salvage kits, but the nicey-nice stuff in the bank, get some stuff from the gem store, and a few other things nearby if I wanted to use them too. Plus there were two other places in LA just as convenient and other merchants littred about.

Now there is NO central area like that. I have only found one merchant in the entire city to buy salvage kits from and they were off near the skritt cave (I asked a guide NPC and the only general merchant he showed me was where armorsmith is). Sure, LA looks nice, but services tend to cluster, especially ones where it is one person with MAYBE a pushcart. Real life cities grow like that. The racial cities are like that. Why is lion’s arch so …. not?

I am hoping this does not stay static and I do not have to go someplace like the black citadel after gating in just to be near everything

That one on the shelf has singlehandedly turned this from mildly entertaining to just wanting to get it over with and never see it again. I have even seen screencaps of where to stand and shoot but replicating that does not work for me. Do different character sizes shoot from different places or something?

From what I can figure out none of my characters aims directly for the bulls-eye of the green circles, they are all a bit off in one direction or another and to different amounts. This has gone from being a fun game of finding them to me the frustration of being able to see it but not being able to get the target just right.

I know some people like this sort of thing, especially since it involves the JP. I wish there was more of a variety of stuff to do.

In addition to that I kept a slot open for contingencies, like if I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to play a character on my main. Since I bought the ultimate there is another free slot. Here comes a third. Yes, I will wind up using all of them.

Menadena.7482

And get this every edition gets a wopping yumongus 3 explorable zones to explore x 3 layers that’s a total of 9 layers. With the first map I have also concluded that at most a full HOT map is equal to 150% of a Guild Wars 2 map so the HOT map surface is equal to 4 and a half maps. Now isn’t that worth a full $30? I think so. Go ahead and enjoy it for the full 1 month it will last you at $50, $75 or $100 smackaroons.

Please don’t remind me what else is in the expansion because those things will not keep you logged in once it’s all been done and explored.
A friend of mine did pay $100 and he even knew it was only 3 zones he told me so himself, I hope he has a lot of fun with it, I’m out not of the game I love it but I am out until it drops below $30 because it isn’t worth a penny more to me.

The question does not seem to be asking if hot is worth it. There are thousands of posts on that, whether it is worth it for non-newbies, and so on. The question I read was asking what the ultimate edition included.

Update the UI!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

If they change the UI in any way I would just have one piece of advice for them. LISTEN to whatever your user beta testers tell you.

A few years back Second Life decided to revamp their interface. The user beta testers hated it … and the company went forward with it anyway.

So what was the result? The rest of the users hated it to when it was released. It was sort of like Windows 8 in needing to release a new version to make it barely tolerable again. The new version still had the stink of the previous one though.

A representative sample is sometimes just that. Representative.
