HOLD. Wait for a character/bank/bag slot sale!
Definitely!!! Many of us are sitting on thousands of gems right now because we know prices will drop soon. I do not want to buy several more character slots at 800 gems then have them drop to 600 a few days later.
An outfit is a great thing to have, even on an 80. I use different builds for different situations, from weapons to skills, and looking the same destroys the image of doing so. Not just transmutation charges but I can change what I am wearing FAST without having to lug around an extra set of armor.
Bank storage is a MUST. Maybe not at first, but after a few months you will need it. Buy it from the bank tab though, as the gem store will not warn you if you can not buy any more.
Mat storage is good for some things. Buy at least one extra so you can have piles of 500.
I bought a couple of the armor sets to have something different looks than normal.
You can also get it as a random drop. On Shatterer I once got a Charzooka, which is an ascended rifle with a huge skin.
What are people seeing for their numbers though, not the deltas? I am debating whether to trust it to a virtual machine and what I should see. For comparison to win10, my mac gets down into as low as the mid 50s during things like teq.
I account unlocked it the moment I got it to get the skin however it is essentially an ascended rifle if you look at the stats. I want it to go where it will do the most good and my engineer already has a crafted ascended one.
True, I do not want to go soulbinding my charzooka to my fighter if one of the specializations can use the rifle better. It is sitting in limbo until I know what will happen. Please more info anet!
I would love one for <f12><click on character select>. When RL stuff happens (phone, spouse coming home, etc) I want to be able to throw my attention away from the game on a moment’s notice without having to worry that I will die.
I am not sure of the best way technically track it (maybe combo actions since they measure them already with some other metric) but somehow record doing things in teams. With perhaps some sort of recognition. As simple as a title would work as an encouragement.
Scribe, you must be in law or studying law
The post you linked can certainly be interpreted this way. Although the ‘portal’ in question was not quite the same. But an event taxi can be considered as a form of portal. I do have to admit that I’m guilty of the ‘join & leave’ practice in SW.
One could argue that large scale events do require a certain level of participation and thus a taxi for that ‘legitimate’ need could be a grey area of acceptable! But would it warrant support from Anet in the form of my original request?
One way I have seen taxis used is getting ready for a temple assault in Orr. Unless you have something like the Rally waypoint you had better hope you caught the event train there as annoyingly there is only one viable path from Ft Trinity (well, swimming, but I count that as a last resort) to getting there in a hurry and it involves a door that is not always open.
If your purchase of HoT is predicated on a new Mac client, I do think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. You are fortunate if you can run the game on half the graphics. Many of us run it on the absolute lowest graphics settings to keep the client from crashing because of a bug introduced back in 2013.
Yes, I can run the full graphics on my machine but can not avoid crashing when I do that. I have learned to use minimal settings to keep things stable … and even then get random crashes now and then.
BTW, what bug from 2013? While support was extremely helpful I never once heard there was a known major issue like that.
PC people are all ‘macs suck at games’. Yes, that is because we get bad clients. They would have the same problems if they had to use a bad emulation layer to a mac to do something. I guarantee my mac blows away what most casual GW2 PC players are using.
No, sorry. Unlike individual skins, outfits are all or nothing.
You can hide the same items as you can with normal equipment (although I have only tried it for the headpiece). Frustrating though, it means a worn headpiece as a normal skin will not appear.
Not that outfits do not have their uses. I like skins for mix and match but enjoy some outfits too. Kinda fun to have my staff ele switch to a d/d pirate character pretty fast.
Currently there is no real benefit to staying to the end of a SW event as you get the same reward. No chests on the ground when whatever is dead. No loot drops. It is in your best interest to tag as many events as possible.
It has gotten to the point where I have to constantly look over my shoulder at SW events. I do not want to be the last one there and everyone else just assumed I will keep it from dying. Then I have to keep it going because the time I invested in it will be lost if it fails, even though soloing an event in the SW is not always a great idea.
This could be fixed easily, just have monsters in the SW do drops. An added plus would be a chest for veteran-level and above but the drops would be the easiest resolution.
Does someone have a vested interest in encouraging bad playstyles when the rest of the map encourages cooperative events?
Unless you are into WvW servers are meaningless. The game will dump players from all servers (in a region, NA or EU) onto a single map, or multiple instances of that map.
It does seem to bias the placement in favor of putting people from the same home server together, especially in town.
You can get around that using parties to “taxi” people. Just takes a bit more work.
So not being on TC or Piken isn’t going to screw you out of RP opportunities entirely, it just might make a certain kind of spontaneous play slightly more annoying.
These folks should be able to tell you more: http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/
True, it does try to assign based on server and guild as well but party is pretty much guaranteed to be together when they move to another map.
Sort of. It depends how full a map is although it will do its best to keep a party together.
Now if we could just form parties greater than 5 people it would make things a whole lot easier.
As long as we get the choice to turn it off, I wouldn’t mind it if it happened. Though, I wouldn’t say it’s a top class priority to have either, I’m afraid.
It’s not a top priority, but it’s something that bugs me every single time I log on and the request has been there pretty much forever, at some point they certainly must have had the resources to do so but decided not to.
The option exists in second life. Whether people prefer it on or off seems to have no set pattern though.
Hmm … a suggestion, although it may sound facetious at first.
If you play full-screen and are not changing the camera controls constantly you will always be pretty much at the same place on the screen, right? Or am I missing something?
I am sure you can find something that will put text at a fixed location on your screen. Just type in your name, title, and whatever else you want to display.
Hero tab has that info already and more.

kitten. Unless Anet has decided that HoT will increase the maximum, I think you are screwed =\
I thought they already increased it to 66 to cover both the extra slot versions and, later, the one for vets?
Above the screen refresh rate (which is what, 60) and what your eyes can see the client FPS means nothing. It is just another bragging right. It is only useful if it is really low or you know the server FPS.
Sure, it is interesting to know what one setup sees as an average over another at the same scene at the same time but it does not tell the whole story when there is nothing to compare as it is apples to oranges. You will see your FPS go down the less things there are to render, which is why boss fights cause most FPSs to plummet (for example, I only see most at 50).
Actually, there is a much simpler was to get the latency, look on whois for anet’s IP block using whois (either the command line or the website). Get a list of your connections (different OSs have different ways). and look for addresses in that range that are not going to a webserver. Do a ping.
In second life there is a developer/advanced option to see the stats like client FPS, , network traffic, buffered traffic, latency, server FPS, requested data to send to the client, ktris, and enough stats to fill your entire RHS of the screen. I doubt most people think about those numbers more than ‘high client FPS= good’ though.
I never chased achievemts yet somehow they happened.
Out of the 3 legendaries I have found in the SW I do not even remember fighting the first (although obviously it was in the area), the second it was almost dead when I randomly walked into the area, the third was just a matter of right place at the right time. Now I can not find the 4th, no matter how much I actively look for it.
At TT I wound up getting wurm’s bane after I died. My first Teq I wound up getting several on my first run there (including a few some people have trouble with, ironically I had trouble with ones most others find easy).
A few I have specifically gone after because I was approaching it anyway. A good example of that was fashion collector … which involved more spending rather than just finding things over the course of time.
Aside from that, I have no real issues with them beyond the ludicrous requirements for Hellfire and Radiant armor sets (which I think ANet could easily fix if they choose to).
+1
Getting carapace armor is not bad though, except for the fact that oddly one item you need to do a chapter of the PS that I never completed. After watching the youtube of it it seemed as ‘fun’ as a jumping puzzle to someone that was not the best at coordination. The most recent time I was at the vendor there were only 4 (rather than 5) items listed though for some reason: hopefully the 5th was the coat which you usually get after a few VW runs.
I heard the lumi actually looked worse than carapace after all of that work. Oh well, it looks like I will not kill myself trying to get lumi then.
Pikes or polearms are a frontline weapon for heavy plate fighters.
Crossbows fit in well though. As a by the by …. have you seen the #2 skill for longbow warriors?
Hi all
I’d much like to buy the expansion early on, but I can’t since I have neither Visa nor paypal. I can buy every game I want through Steam using SOFORT banking with my regular card.
Why does Arenanet not support something like SOFORT?
And is there any other way to buy this game with a regular card?
Thx in advance
I linked a discover card to a paypal account.
Post a pic of a mini you would like in HoT :)

mini sb … just so I can finally see what it actually looks like beyond a face and a couple hands
They also have crap GPU for an outrageous cost. Pretty much certain this is why they have a bad reputation when it’s come to gaming.
They use laptop GPUs, yes. Then again, many PC gamers game on laptops anyway. I always buy the best one apple sells whenever I buy a new mac (actually, I tend to max out almost every spec then get some 3rd party goodies).
Not that it matters to GW2. It is CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound. Currently I use a 3.5 Ghz i7. Between GW2, firefox with plenty of tabs, itunes, various other stuff … all told more than half of the CPU is idle.
In real life terms, look at your clost/garage/whatever. If you fill it up it does not matter if it somehow gets bigger. You will fill it up again. What you need to do is get better at organization … “do I really need to carry xyz around with me all the time”.
Sure, there are plenty of things you MIGHT need once in a blue moon. Put them in your bank and use the ‘b’ or ‘y’ key when it looks like that situation is imminent.
I think you would find that the vast majority of players believe that the bag upgrade is hardly a luxury purchase and in addition that the price of it is exorbitant compared to other gem purchases as it is one of the most mundane purchases you could make in the game and it is essentially a quality of life (in game) purchase (ie. its not cosmetic or fun).
Is it expensive? Yes.
Is it needed? No. (at least going by the replies here)
Sounds like a luxury item to me.
No matter how you look at it the game has aged and the price of buying something that is considered essential Utility (even more so now that so many new items have been introduced thus taking up even more space) has risen “Overall” when you take into account all of the methods of obtaining gems.
The extra bag slots are not an essential utility, though. People can and do play the game without adding any extra bag slots to any characters. The extra slots are simply an optional luxury item. So, I honestly don’t consider the price to be out of line or exorbitant, even if the game is three years old.
quoted for truth. I have ‘a few’ characters, and of those characters two of them has recieved a single bag slot upgrade each. I haven’t really found a need to expand them fully, or give the expansions to any other character, despite carrying around copious amounts of fun items (tonics, balloon, etc) wherever I go (even into dungeons and on world boss runs) on whoever I’m playing.
I can’t imagine how much junk you must carry around with you OP if you think upgrading bag slots is a needed thing…
Currently I have 6 characters (holding another slot for a revenant) and will expand to 9 slots the next time they go on sale. I run allmost all of them with 20-slot bags and have never paid for extra bag slots.
About the only time I worry about filling things up is when I am doing several bosses right in a row without having time to clean out things or unpacking after such. Banks. Use them. The stuff you actually need between times you can stop at a bank is pretty low, even carrying every type of weapon you might need. Are you really going to change your runes while fighting mobs or something?
If anything changes on bag slots I would want to see the option to pay a bit more and have it unlock across all of your characters. If you fill up one character with stuff you probably have that same problem on others. Plus, you may be using one character heavily one month then migrate to another the next.
Afkers make things fun. At least for tequatl. Its not a fun teq until you have 3 champs running around at shills with only 4 people trying not to die.
i kid of course
I was doing shills defense today. My party was constantly fighting champs and yelling about afkers.
Really people? Scaling so there will be better loot for everyone is one thing. Scaling so the people WORKING so you can get your loot is just being a …. kitty-cat.
No. Macs have bad hardware at premium price. That’s why they have bad rep in gaming community. Even Alienware does better at the same price tag.
Actually, when you look at cost over time macs are cheaper. Not only are they more durable but they last longer, generally you replace them when you want to upgrade. I have only had one mac die on me over the decades.
Even then, I was able to trace symptoms of the problem back a couple years but assumed it was normal for that model and that was where the heat sink was. It turns out the fan there had gone kaput but it had no problems without it for a long time. Since that machine was well past its EOL anyway I figured I would just upgrade it to the latest model.
One of my macs was in use for more than a decade. My chief complaint? Having to replace the clock battery every 5 years or so.
As to gaming reps … look no further than ‘clients’ like what we have on the mac for guild wars 2. It is running on an emulation layer for windows. I guarantee you if your windows box did the same to run mac programs you would have the same problems.
Which is why many of us hope this person is a sign of a real mac client coming. Looking at the numbers my mac would blow away all but the most customized PCs designed for extreme gaming and would have no problem being superior to what 99% of people use for games.
The TP server constantly has woes. Annoying to be doing a bunch of transactions and things fail right in the middle.
There is either a server issue or a network one. I am a bit shocked that it still exists though as that is where anet makes their money.
I would wait until at least the third birthday, since it’s so close now.
Do character slots ever go on sale? (hopefully so as I want at least one for each profession)
I LOVE the transmutation charge idea. I have nearly 1,000 skins in my wardrobe and would like to vary the looks of my characters now and then (especially when I start to hate something they are wearing day after day) but I can not do so without ponying up $$ to do so. Sure, we get 3 charges/month …. which is a pittance when you have half a dozen or more characters.
I got a strange one waiting for teq last night. My screen just suddenly went black and I could not bring it back, even though I could hear things the entire time. I finally just disconnected and fortunately was able to get back to the same map again.
Kasmeer and Marjory are just shoehorned lesbians that constantly flaunt the fact that they are together in our face
Remember that the next time you see a heterosexual couple kissing in public, wearing rings, holding hands, referring to each other, and so on. For some reason it is only when non-straight couples make it obvious they are a couple that it is “flaunting it in your face”.
Login my new character, play a bit to keep her gaining in experience.
Log in other people to get a couple skins from somewhere.
About an hour before reset go have dinner, when I come back log on my ele to get ready for teq (help defenses set up, go on champ trains if any). Then fight teq.
Do dailies. Ho hum.
Log out. Log in my alt account to get the login reward. Log out. Login and out of my main account so it is ready to go again the next day.
Even though I still play a bit I have fallen into a rut. The now-boring dailies (and Teq) both hitting at 8 pm in my time zone does not help either as I want the nag to do them gone ASAP (so feel I have to do them right after the Teq fight).
I’ve had about 4 or 5 whispers in the silverwastes
What is the point of doing it in the SW? To even get there you need to be level 80 (either on a main or an insta-80 alt) and by then people would know about the scam. Low level areas give the most bang for their buck as people barely have any silvers and are new to the game and what is going on with those whispers.
You don’t actually have to be level 80 to get there, you can enter any map at any level, the problem is that you wouldn’t survive long on a low level character. But if all they want to do is stand in the Pact camp and spam people as they come through they’d only need to be able to survive the run across Brisban Wildlands which is a level 20ish map.
As for why they do it SW is one of the major farming spots so my guess is they’re hoping to catch people who have been grinding gold for something or other and feeling desperate enough to consider an alternative, even if they know it’s a fantastically stupid one that opens them up to having their account stolen. (Or if they’re lucky just banned.)
Actually, unless they changed it you do need to be 80 to get into the wastes. The gate does not show until then.
In order to farm the SW you need to enter it unless you are lucky enough to catch the part of a train on the way through the fort. Being with the train group in the wastes itself helps your survivability but it is not a guarantee.
I almost never see them, but when I do, it’s a swift block & report. Every time.
It does mean I have to periodically clean up my block list, but what we have in GW2 is way, way better than how FF14 handles these kittenes.
I usually do not bother with a block as I have never heard from them again after a report (and would rather not fill my block list). Two reports actually, one for spamming and the other for gold selling. If I am feeling particularly grumpy I will send them a whisper that they have been reported, not that it makes a difference either way.
Some have gotten wise and technically are not offering to sell gold in the message but instead offer to sell valuable items for cheap. The url they list usually tells you their main interest is to sell gold though.
I’ve had about 4 or 5 whispers in the silverwastes

The only reason you are seeing a lot right now is because they are so easy to get and different from most minis. Give it a month or two and they will not be as ubiquitous.
I love them as-is and hope anet does not change them. Perfectly the size of other minis, just longer.
dragonsnakes everywhere
So it looks like I am not the only one mulling over a sylvari … including the HOT lore issues and the armor class ones. The reason I do ‘a race can not be in an armor class twice’ is to make it easier for the achievement where you bind racial armor.
I am thinking Sylvari as it fits my pattern of who gets what profession (a race can only be used once per armor class following my self-imposed rules). Asura would be my second choice but it has a few complications with who else gets the remaining professions. Although the longer we have to wait for HOT the more likely I will need to buy another slot or two for my revenant.
Aw, was hoping this would be serious.
I would LOVE to see thief get a rifle. Anyone, really (hopefully one of the classes I have already). It is the most underused weapon in the game. Finally I would have a use for that charzooka in my bank.
I hope it will be back too! I got here in late October so by the time I had everything sorted out it was gone.
Thanks. I probably will just toss them in the forge after unlocking the skin as that would make it account bound.
Hmm, I looked on the wiki and none of the forge recopies listed the shards.
I am not even sure what to do with them. I do not forge legendaries and I think the only time I have talked to whasername at the mystic forge was to see if there was anything good in the offered stuff.
You could make some of the mystic forge exotics with their custom skins. You might even win some money out of the trade allowing you to get gold for your spirit shards.
Skins?
At 900+ I figure I may as well go for the 1,000. While there are still some to get they are all several gold (annoying for something I will just toss in the mystic toilet and some I can not even do that with).
What if racial skills were cosmetic rather than granting special abilities? Or if they granted anything make it something that was the same across all races just with different expressions (the abilities of a bear on norn could be matched by a wildcat on charr and a berserker on humans for example).
