It would be GREAT if you could use the armor skins on any profession. There are already outfits that do it so why not allow skins to as well?
Thanks but that is not what I am looking for. I would need to go into the pages for each vendor and look at what items they offer.
I usually did not go back to the vendors after a heart because I was usually doing them to work towards completions later. Now I want to unlock the weapon/armor skins they have but I seem to have two choices: compile a list of zones->hearts and hearts->items or manually go to each heart.
Does such a list exist? Or is going to each heart better because what individual merchants sell sometimes changes?
What’s the special title and… who cares!
No really, who’s gonna wear it anyway.
I plan on wearing it with my character that is out there helping newbies. Since almost all for the near future will have access to that title (and no others) they will probably wear it anyway once they figure out titles so it would make me seem more sympathetic.
The funny thing is I normally tag up while doing so and send a map chat to look for the (color) icon on their map if they need help. So combining a tag I got for WVW (and 300 G) with a non-achieve title looks a bit …. strange.
As to the betas I am doing a ‘wait and see’ approach. We do not know when they are or if we can be online at those times.
Quick question: I am in a guild of one – is getting a guild hall therefore going to be out of reach for me?
From how I understand it it looks like non-guild people can help you. Or at least they can temporarily rep your guild.
Which means you can form an alliance of several small guilds. They take one hall then move on to the next.
I don’t see how they can change it now after so many people have purchased the packages as they are. All those people would have to be compensated somehow.
Pretty easy as we do not know much about HOT. They could go ‘surprise!’ and the shipped version has an unannounced feature. What would be hard is taking away something.
I hope they’ll add skritts as a playable race someday :P

I beginning to wonder: if Publix or Payless had a forum, they would receive this many amount of flamers. Would customers complain every time they had a bogo or summer sale. “I just bought those shoes or chicken last year and now they’re free/half off! I demand a refund!” or would people even complain to Walmart when the movie they bought at $26 ends up in the $5 bin a year or so later?
I can understand that people don’t want to pay the $50 now cause of lack of information. That’s cool. I see pre-purchase for people who are DEFINITELY going to buy it regardless of content (or lack thereof). I don’t understand the people who downright won’t buy it cause they think $10 more is too much for an expansion that will support GW2 till the next expansion release.
For the add on of the base game: It’s business. Keeping the old while trying to snag new blood. Makes good sense. The other option would be selling base game for $10 and $50 for expansion.
Question: we all know there are 75% sales often. In fact one came out the next week after I bought the game.
How much complaining do you hear about the 75% sales? IT IS NOT ABOUT THE PRICE!!!!!!!

They could have done a MUCH better job with their PR. There are plenty of ways they could cook the numbers (especially since the HOT price was not released yet) to get the same results but not upset their current base.
I think you will find a lot of us bought HOT but basically because we had to in order to keep up with what will most likely be where the content will be. That does not change our feelings about it though.
Remember, the objection is not to the $50 (although it is debatable if it is worth it). The objection is new players got a better deal than older players, ESPECIALLY when recent players were told they needed to buy GW2 to play HOT.

I think that no one has been kittened, insulted yes, devalued maybe but there is no indication tat Veteran players cannot just open a new account thus allowing them to get the same benefits as others.
So, all I need to do to get value is pay for a 3rd account? Even my alt account is at 80.
Also there should be apology from the community as well there has been alot of distasteful reactions.
Thanks, I needed a huge laugh to start my day.

“Stay calm and just pay up”
Pretty much. Instead of giving valid reasons as to why this small expansion is worth $50, they just convey how great a game it is, so we just need to blindly support them.
What I love are the ones who said we more than got the value we paid. I am guessing those people do not regularly use the gem store.

I would love to see it as a hot slot! The bit about making it only usable once you hit 80 is nice as well: it satisfies experienced players while telling new players that they can have it too after a few months of active game play.

Lets not forget the network effect of having new players. There is value in a large player base that benefits players.
Like more overflow servers and lag?

When they first decided on HoT the price was Estimated at the exact price it is now, there was no increase in price after they decided to give the base game free, the expansion was Designed to be sold at the price it is now. MMO/Games Charge the same Price for every release of their games, its a Common design among ALL MMOs today.
People Arguing this is Unfair.
Is it unfair really?…. think of it this way u invested in entertainment, for ur inital price, u have gained 3 years of Entertainment, they have delievered exactly what u paid for, so no it isnt a Rip off, but in comparison to a new player it does LOOK like they get more due to the wording and timing of this decision.
No, I have paid FAR more than the initial price. While I shudder to work out the number I would be willing to bet a subscription game would have been cheaper.
Why? Unlike you obviously some of us frequent the gem store.
All you need to remember is which 4 characters have their 2 crafting disciplines maxed. Well, which crafts, but you can make some mnemonics like ‘my heavy armor character is the armorer’.
I do agree recipes should be account-wide though. I think of your characters as a family of sorts, and while you might not share the secret sauce outside the family members within it would have access.
Excited for some changes. Kind of bummed about what is going to happen to Guardians, which is really nothing much compared to other classes. I am usually very very positive about the game (fanboy status) but I’m worried about the guardian changes. Guess I’ll find out on Tuesday though.
It will be awesome to have the bow in the specialization though. Right now my choices are to use a slow-and-underpowered scepter or to melee. Neither is a great choice when fighting a boss who you can not approach without dying.
I’m kind of bummed that all my work to get skill scrolls and buy skills for my low level characters will go to the trash bin.
Not just low-levels. When I heard there would be a change it sounded like it would affect unused skill points only (some traits would remain, others go, and all skills would stay). So I concentrated on skills but bought some traits I thought would come in handy at some point while I was at it.
Most of those traits I have not used yet. Now I am losing them before I got a chance to.
There are also traits I got for doing various things and I am wondering what THAT means. How can you complete a zone twice? Or maybe they will have different unlocks?
Every level 80 will get 400 hero points and the number of skill points done in map, up to a max number. Those Hero points will be used to unlock your skills and traits. Any skill points you have above that max will be converted to spirit shards, usable to buy items from the mystic forge NPC. Any skill point scrolls in your inventory/bank will become a consumable that becomes the spirit shards.
I thought scrolls would still give skill points if used on <80 characters? It is all the confusion over skill points lately that have had me skipping skill challenges when going for map completions.
Hopefully the spirit shards will go into the wallet rather than becoming the new mystic forge stones and cluttering up my inventories.
Except they they’ve been selling that game for $10 multiple times already, so OP, how did you feel that thousands of people (probably more) bought it for $10?
And guess how much a character slot is?
What kittenes me off the most is people who haven’t spent a dime on the gem store calling veterans who have spent hundreds/thousands of dollars “entitled” and saying they shouldn’t complain because the game is free.
Yes, it infuriates me when people say how much I spent on the game purchase originally as what I have paid since them. In subscription MMOs you are still buying the original product. Gems are pretty much the subscription fee.
Looking at the numbers, I would have paid less per month if I was subscribing to another game. I still prefer GW2 though.
It does not hit for me until Tuesday at 8 pm anyway. I did say I could not make it to evening volunteering on Wednesday though.
GW1 for Windows Phone (and maybe Android and iOS, too) please.
Windows has a phone now?
I am looking forward to Tuesday! I already am counting down by minutes until the update.
Humans, bah. Raze DR or give it to the Charr.
Anet was able to pull off wintersday. A lot of people all in one place and a highly detailed large environment. My graphics card kept crashing me during some of the events but that is what I get for running with too high settings during something that was crowded and was easily fixable.
Hmm, I just read above it is cpu-bound rather than gpu-bound. That is interesting as I an running a 3.5 GHz i7 with 24 GB of memory to play with and the OS on kitten.
I would LOVE to see it. Right now I am just deleting it as 1,000 of it and the ability to get more fast is plenty.
The thing that eats it would not even have to give me back anything other than the satisfaction that I did something with it other than destroy it. If it did give something back it could be something that does not cost anet, like a title/achievement after x amount is eaten.
sigh I wish the ‘you are all entitled’ people could stop being fanboys and look at it logically. It is not about cost or anything (I already bought ultimate for my main). It is because they used a back door to the ‘you need the base game to play hot’ by giving it away to new purchasers.
The argument ’it was a fixed price" fails. I use the gem store so I pay more than I would pay in a subscription fee elsewhere.
The argument “you got to experience X” also fails. I joined the game the game in October and the LA battle and such took place before that. It is even worse for the people who believed they would need base so bought it recently to be ready for HOT: they did not even get the content I was here for, like wintersday, most of season 2, and april fool’s.
Existing users can not use the included base game. So it only makes sense to make up for it and the prevailing ask is for a character slot to actually play with the new profession.
I am certain my larger guilds can pull it off although hopefully the halls will be cross-server so they do not need to win a hall on every NA server one at a time. I am not sure about the one I am in with a few friends. My personal one is probably a no-go.
During the chat yesterday while POI interest there was certainly a pickup of the ‘take my money’ attitude beyond what we have seen lately. I still would like to see the address the misstep but at least now I am more sure about getting my money’s worth.
Isnt the expansion 1 map split into 3 biomes though?
Although from the pics I have seen each biome is about the size of the SW.
When is it supposed to be restored on Tuesday? At the midnight GMT clock reset (ie, Tuesday evening for NA) when they usually do patches I assume?
Yes, I am guessing people overlooked it in all the other changes that will take place. Having a big range on it though is invaluable when fighting over a large area unless you expect most of the elementalists there will be attuned to water 100% of the time.
This was brought up before and I would love to see it or some variation! I have different weapons and so on I want for different situations. Right now I have to go to half a dozen places and hope I got everything right.
I can’t wait to see the new LA. I’m sad I couldn’t see the original one before it was destroyed, but at least I’ll see the new one.
I was always a bit saddened that there was this whole destroyed place. Let’s hope it will bring LA to its former glory.
Yes, I joined soon after it was destroyed and was a bit down. Especially when I saw the pictures of how it used to be. Now it is just another place to park my characters before logging out where I know they will not be killed when logging in.
They said on the next content update and it was coming soon. There are a LOT of updates this Tuesday.
Does everyone know if we can do the same stuff for skill points/traits that we did before or are they locked off now?
Looks like I will have something new to do other than dailies that day.
This means that people what already have the core game should have been getting this expansion at a reduced price. Why is this so hard to grasp???
Newer players wont be able to eploit the lack of DR to maximizse their rewards in specific maps (like human starting area) :P
(or the ghost pepper exploit :PP)New ppl wont benefit for the lower gold>gem cost , like we do from the start of the game) :P
Newer players wont be able to see the Marriornete fight or the Tower or the LA fight (and if they see it it will be in a personal istances with 5 other npcs (or protect one lane) :P
I wish people would stop saying stuff like this. Anyone, new or old, that joined after the September patch missed at least half of the things people reference to say are stuff the new folks never were here for but vets were.
I have no problems with the devs or even the people who came up with the price. I am sure a lot of people feel the same way and you can tell they are working their lions off recently just by their web services having so much trouble right after prepurchases began. What the complaint is is about whoever made the decision to favour new customers over existing ones, especially since most of us were relying on (and assumed) a character slot so we could play the new class.
I use it all the time when fighting teq. Usually the people that need it the most are not near me as people are all spread out.
Our small guilds may want to form alliances and team up. After the mission to get one hall they could all use it (I am guessing you could do that if they all add each others guilds) or go on to get another one for the next guild. Hopefully we will learn more this afternoon.

New players buying HOT will have 5 slots so will not need that extra one. They probably will see everything else as gimmicks and will not plan on using gems (vets know better). Some will buy the $75 one, but most will stick with the $50 one.
Vets buying HOT will make another calculation. The extra slot is needed. Since we use gems (albeit at different rates from each other) the 2 things make up $60 plus whatever value you personally assign to the other things (which could be $0).
So this comes back to ‘who is the $75 version for’. New players who know what a finisher is and what ones are available?
And yet, WoodenPotatoes encourages his viewers to NOT pre-purchase. That’s some bias toward ArenaNet.
He said there’s room for improvement and repeated some suggestion that have already been made. His final thoughts were that for him, the expansion is worth the price tag.
While I do agree that the $100 package makes more sense if you are getting the $50 one (and use gems) the $50 one does not make a lot of sense to begin with. Most of what was announced (traits and such) will be in the core game anyway. Taken in total between PVE, PVP, WVW, and fractals you have a bunch of things but how many people regularly play ALL of those modes equally (which he glossed over)? The only way $50 makes sense is if some of that cost is for the core game.
Thanks, I was worried I would have to use one of my dwindling supply of transmutation charges. I did not need the character restored, just when I realized it was not what I thought I deleted it before I could waste more effort. So I guess in the betas we have to use part of the amount of time in just creating the character?
Ten charges? The daily rewards only give 3.
I made a new character to play around with then deleted her as usual when I saw I had selected the wrong class. For some reason my extras got sent there, not to the character that was logged in. As to the extras…
title, char slot, and beta access – I expect them to stay no matter what
mini … added to wardrobe, assume it will stay
finisher … added, also assume it will stay
decoration … I put this in my bank for later
My glider skin is the big worry. I should have banked this but stupidly clicked on it instead to use it as I thought I was creating my beta character (I had clicked on ‘beta’ before creating a char but got a normal guardian not in the beta slot instead) . Will it be there when gliders are real as using it now did nothing? Can I get the original applicator back without having to use a transmutation charge?
The stuff I am seeing says ‘look! we get new fractals and such, you should not just be focusing on the new PVE content’. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I thought the whole point was we decide how to play. I play mostly PVE so to me there is not much content.
Defending the $100 vs the $50 is easy. You get $50 of gems that you would buy anyway if you use the gem store and a free character slot.
It is defending the first $50 where it gets interesting. Based on datamining each of the 3 levels is slightly larger than the SW … and correct me if I am wrong but SW and DT were free. So those 3 are presumably worth the same unless they have some RADICALLY different mechanics.
So, if you take out those 3 maps what are the 3 major changes? Revenant, professions, and Guild Halls. To make things work everyone would need access to the first two items, HOT or not.
So that leaves just one thing. Can anyone justify the guild halls for $50?
