So Disappointed After The First Beta

in Revenant

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

People are forgetting something about this beta… this whole event wasn’t in their original plans. It is a “bonus” event for extra feedback on the Revenant, as we have seen, because the short CBT they had didn’t give them enough feedback.

Colin said this himself, they don’t consider this a fully fledged Beta Weekend Event. Part of the reason this test exists is because the gear in the CBT was the same used for the convention demo and they basically said that while they had reasons for having that gear set for the demo in hindsight they should have changed it for the CBT event.

Source: first segment of the PoI stream today.

Thank you for mentioning all this, Crise. It’s correct!

Everyone should please remember: There will be Beta Weekend Events, and a lot of testing and adjustments in between. Consider this an “early peek,” and by all means share any of all feedback you have! We have an actual Revent forum set up for your feedback, and it was created specifically at the request of several Development Team members, so you can be assured it will be given a very high priority for review. This weekend’s testing is not at all a “marketing event.” Marketing events are good, too, but this weekend consists of a real, honest-to-Dwayna test, with feedback invited from all who participate!

Unfortunately people tend to confuse a test of the entire thing with a peek at everything related that is being shown. I fall into that trap myself so am not blaming anet! I have let users look at something to give me feedback but specifically told them function xyz was not ready yet. Then got flooded with emails about xyz not working as intended.

I am not sure what is the best solution. Users want to see things as soon as possible when they are not done yet. While at the same time looking at it as the finished product. All I can say is I hope more is going into it than relatively minor tweaks.

What are people even complaining about? Do hero challenges or gain a few levels.

Right now the system is you have EVERYTHING unlocked by 80. Compared to the old one wgere you would have some things locked and some things unlocked based on if you ground through a bunch of preset things and/or spent gold.

I find it interesting that many of the folks here apparently siding with the OP are condoning and encouraging the very same behavior they claim to be reporting.

Not at all. If someone asks me to do something because it is interfering with what they want to play I do not mind. If I have a problem with the request I can discuss it with them.

If they insist on being a mountaincat over it I figure they have declared the gloves are off. At which point I will do everything possible to teach them not to do that to someone again.

I would link weapons to legends. While some legends may work better with some weapons than others let me choose the setup for each legen (which it looks like you can do with skills?) and if I want another weapon hop to a different legend.

So Disappointed After The First Beta

in Revenant

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

It is a beta so I did not have unrealistic expectations but I would have hoped that any heavy armour profession could be easily tanked. Nope. Yes, a real beta is to identify bug and balance abilities, but by making it broad-based like this it was more of a showcase. One that had an almost united reaction by Friday evening.

I want to play a revenant. Now though I will probably wait to hear reviews on the final version before I use up my tomes to do so.

Verbal abuse is never okay but some events throughout the world actually reward failure of the event. For example, I have been told there is a hidden achievement if teq fails and you use the pads to jump over the wave (suppose I need to look that one up someday). The problem is exasperated when not everyone is ‘in the know’ that it is being purposefully failed this time.

Guilds who run 100% rep

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

Bad guilds ask for 100% rep so it is a great way to identify them. They do it because they get more influence that way. In actuality it means they get fewer people joining because most have has figured out the scam.

You should want to rep a guild, not have to. I do not mind a guild asking people to rep them (but no problem if you do not). I do not mind a guild having it a requirement to do their events (do not like it, do not do the event). I do mind any other rep requirement, especially 100%.

First, I know I’m not one to easily get new stuff and thus the getting thrown into an 80 char fully geared was mostly overwhelming for me.
I’d like to had at least the choice to start normally in the tutorial instance instead of getting thrown into LA. If there was any warning that the character would be fully leveled I probably missed it.

All of the betas are like that. The weekend would not make much sense if we were just grinding to 80 so everything was unlocked to test.

Odd but it is a test character that will be deleted in a few days after all. Unless they are giving us something different than the usual heavy skins I am unclear why their would be a restriction to only one race as there is no difference with other professions. If you play, say, an asura most of the time playing another race for a test would not give you a good feel for how the character compared to what you are used to.

Menadena, Stephane starts the YouTube uploading and rendering process literally the minute the show ends, so the answer is “as soon as is humanly possible” because he’s awesome like that. It’s just that with a long show like that there’s a lot of time where we can’t do anything but wait while YouTube does its thing for hours.

It’s usually not ready for us to put the finishing touches on it until well after our workday ends, so Stephane does that and gets it out the door from home on Saturday mornings.

Donari, that’s exactly it: People with Twitch access who won’t be able to play until tonight or this weekend for whatever reason. My personal suggestion? Do whatever is the most fun for you. Or use dual monitors if you’ve got ‘em. I know that I’m going to be running for my desktop as soon as humanly possible when I get home from work tonight.

Thanks a lot! The amusing thing is I am typically logging off at work and running home at 12:30 your time so skip the pre-show and am trying to watch the main bit on the train on my phone with sporadic signals!

Somehow I think if I did ‘cough cough I need to leave early’ every other Friday afternoon someone might wise up that maybe I was not sick every time.

Kodan in LA? were they there before?

Tour guides? okay …

All medium characters, male and female, have that problem. About the only option at the moment is outfits.

Some good ideas about Tomes of knowledge

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

Well i think thats a good ideia in my opinion:

If players reach 2 or more of those requirements:

  • 1 Level 80 character;
  • World completion with 1 character;
  • WvW Rank of 1100+;
  • PvP Rank of 80

they will unlock a NPC that sells Tomes of Knowledge on your home instance, for 2g each Tome.
How about that?

I like the current way. I do not play PVP at all and WVW very little. I do have several characters that are at 80. So you would have me do a grind through 100% of the world AND then pay 160g to level to 80?

No thanks. I like it the way it is now. Those that want them get a couple once a week and those that do not can just delete them.

No trait reset is bogus.

Menadena.7482

Yes, but unlike real life, you can have an ‘undo’ button, it’s a simple QoL improvement for the game.

Umm … I develop code in multiple languages. An undo button is NOT always trivial to include.

Just look how long we have been asking for ‘character select’ when you hit f12. While I am unsure what language they coded in it is usually just an extra parameter to the button function call in the API.

No trait reset is bogus.

You can unlock everything by simply being lv80 Menadena, they did change that actually. All skill challenges only serve to speed up your unlocks, at least until HoT comes around.

Thanks, I missed that in the notes. On my most recent character I just did a bunch of challenges anyway while leveling out of habit so did not really notice if it was them or because of a change.

No trait reset is bogus.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

Do you have all (or most) of the low level challenges? Several are simply communing with something with no or minimal monsters around. Say you get your wish though. What are you going to do when the second trait line opens up? Complain all of your points are in one line with nothing unlocked in a second one?

Technically you will be 65 HPs shy of unlocking everything (unless they changed it) at level 80. If you leveled using only tomes and nothing else you can get those 65 from low level challenges easy. I forgot where I saw it but someone plotted a course for the 23rd to get those 65 points in low level areas and it was mostly running around. Even if a challenge is hard for one person it is usually easy most of the time because several nearby bystanders will join in for the free xp.

My main issue with not doing dailies this weekend is I will be too “gamed out” by playing the revenant so much. Not getting a few points for a couple days will not kill me.

I would like to know definitively what exactly will happen with the login rewards though. If I am logged in on my revenant at the clock rollover will the chest appear both then and the next time (in the same 24 hour cycle) that one of my non-beta characters logs on? Or do I lose 3 days of login rewards because I already claimed those 3? Not speculation, I am talking something from anet.

I have gone though the NPE on several characters like most. I used tomes when I had them but most of the time it was grinding.

Now that I know the game mechanics? All I need to know are the mechanics of a profession …. and for that I do not need to spend a few months going through the same hearts I have done several times already.

I would suggest doing the first few levels as normal since they go fast early on anyway. Then when you get a good grasp on things tome to 80 and start playing with the new stuff like multiple trait lines.

Have they answered certain questions about what happens if you are playing your beta Rev and you get daily rewards? Can they be put in the bank or are they going to be lost. What if you get the chest for the 20 laurels while playing on your rev because you didn’t notice the time? Those daily chests are character bound and they did say all progression would be lost. Can you even get daily/PvP/dungeon rewards while playing on the beta char?

Whatever you do on revenant, it wont matter. Progress from beta slot inst saved on your account. You can burn all you trasmuted stones if you wish on rev and when you log in to your “live” chars you will still have them.

I don’t care about the transmutation charges here. What I’m caring about is if I’m on my Rev and the daily reset time ticks over and I wasn’t paying attention, what happens to my daily log in reward chest? It’s char bound so I can’t transfer it to another char and if I open it, do I lose the item inside, including up to 20 laurels. Or does it appear again on a regular char if I switch after I got the daily login reward on my Rev, since no progression is kept.

No players will know of course. If it turns out to be the worse case scenario, that login rewards are given to the Rev then irreversibly lost, I’m sure some unfortunate soul will post about it.

That is my concern as well. I probably will not do my dailies the next few days to avoid losing that progress after working for it but would like to know what will happen to my login rewards.

If you read it carefully it states “Weekends” but as we are usually left in the dark about Beta’s and stress tests I wasn’t expecting to find that I’ve spent my money on a “chance” to be included in these tests.

A chance? I never saw something that any prepurchasers would not have access to the beta weekends? Do you not have a character slot that says beta?

What’s funny about that is that people were complaining that it wasn’t as user friendly when when we got the new, destroyed version.

#truth

Fact is, there’s always at least one person complaining about every update and change made. Literally, all of them.

It’s unfortunate, because this makes it hard to distinguish reasonable grievances from trolling and pettiness.

This one I think is reasonable, though, Logistically it is pretty clear that the destroyed LA offered significantly more convenience than it does now.

Yes, I realize there are other cities that are designed better with their services clustering. I just find it odd that the ruined LA was better than the new one in services migrating to each other.

In both the real world and the racial cities related services cluster. Not so it what is supposed to be the main city of the known world.

(I was at the Caledon wurm recently and there were more commander tags standing in one spot than colors …. how was that at all helpful).

I sincerely invite you to a Chaos Tequatl raid followed by a Chaos Wurm raid done by TTS. If you think a handful of tags at a baby boss is strange……. wait til you see what ours look like.

My usual MO when I arrive at Teq is to see what defensive area needs help, run there and tag up (to attract people). It does not hurt that if a random person says “we need to do x” in /map it can be ignored but people put more weight to someone with a commander tag saying the same exact thing. The first Teq I did after the difficulty increased was with an organized guild … and I got asked to turn it off because they had everything worked out (fine with me, I was more than happy to have someone else herd those cats).

I am not too sure what would be the best way of handling the explosion of commander tags on the map. While it seems a huge investment, in real world terms it is around 30 USD and a short time in WVW. I would not argue for making it harder to get though as you do not want to exclude good commanders-to-be just because it is too expensive. I would lean towards something like a time-out that gets reset when someone new joins your squad. If you have not convinced people it is a good idea to follow you after, oh, an hour since the last person joined you are probably not doing much and it would be a minor nuisance to tag up again if you need it.

A lot of people treat the dorito as a status symbol. I tend to use it as an organizational tool. I turn it on and off as needed (or if asked either way by other commanders). I use it to say “hey, I know what is going on in this event and people are needed or the entire event chain will fail” or “come over here and do the pre so we can draw the boss out”.

In starter areas I often turn it on and send a /map message that if anyone wants help to look for the (color) arrow on their map. I then try to catch as many fast spawning events as possible.

I do NOT use it in WvW unless it was on by accident when I took the mists shortcut. I would not feel qualified and would be causing confusion for the actual commanders. There is also no reason for half a dozen people to be tagged up in a boss fight unless they are to draw people to pres or organize (I was at the Caledon wurm recently and there were more commander tags standing in one spot than colors …. how was that at all helpful).

I would like to see more variation to somehow indicate why the person is tagged up (acting as help in PVE is not acting as a team lead in WvW). Another option would be a timer which would automatically turn the tag off after a certain period of time so you would need to manually turn it on again.
