Because when you are fighting fixed opponents (some dungeon bosses) You’re better off staying closer to the target where you can both give and recieve boons with your team?
Than why are we discussing long bow damage?
Because most of us aren’t fighting things (AI or player) stupid enough to let us stay at max range for more than 2-3 shots?
I don’t need more than 2-3 or 4 top shots to kill regular mobs at 80.
Players are a different thing, I’m talking about PVE.
id say yes, warrior is better at long bow than “Ranger” gg.
Why is people keep lying about this? They are not, I have both characters fully geared on zerk and Warrior on Longbow doesnt even get close to Rangers sustained damage with LB.
1) the range, Ranger has so much range than warriors… 1200 vs 1500 what translates into 1350-1500 for warriors (if spaming 1 in red) and near 1750-2K for rangers.
2) Warriors LB auto attacks hits like wet noodles… whenever you see a warrior crit for about 4K with his #1 give me a call or call guiness records directly.
3) What do you care the most? who kills a Moa first or who can sustain more damage on a boss? Rangers have way much more damage than warriors on a sustained fight. And its damage does not depend on conditions (LB wise) thing that is a plus in this game.
Warriors are not horrible at longbow but they are not rangers. They are different but not better.
Delete or not based on what did you expect to find as a Ranger and not comparing things with other classes.
Ps. We don’t have thieves stealth capability and warriors don’t have our damage with bows. Don’t be like that.
Are you kidding? Traited Warrior longbow is devastating. And plain old more interesting, as the individual attacks actually synergize with each other (both starting and completing combos just with weapons skills) and you have actual potential to spike. With greater armor and a massive hit point pool, they are also far more forgiving of the slightest mistake or missed dodge. And a sizeable chunk of their damage potential never stands in an AoE until dead.
I enjoy my ranger for light duty and zerging, but my warrior is a more effective presentation of the “archer” archetype and gameplay I thought I’d be getting from the ranger.
I wont argue about the massive HP difference. Armor’s are about the same if you dont trait and gear for it. The difference between heavy and light if both are zerk is minimal. Now, talking about bow damage… you are delussional. Warriors may have a nice burst if they burn their cooldowns but warrior LB sustained damage sucks, they will never crit as hard as a Ranger LB at max range. I tried my warrior with bow many many times (even wasted 250 t6 on the carcass cause thats how much I like using the bow and the reason I rolled a ranger later) and it doesnt come close to bow rangers.
5% is reasonable.
25% is the end of pets
Just to add one more thought. I think all this grindy content burns goodwill.
My non-scientific anecdotal evidence suggests that when people quit the game because the goodwill is gone they really end up hating the game. The amount of venom I’ve heard from friends who left the game is unbelievable.
Yes, this is true. Specially when players expected something from the game and get “betrayed” by a 180° turn around in the devs vision of the game.
what scares me most is the bad decisions they are making artistically. Yes, it does sound stupid but a bad event or a bad change can be reverted… bad looks will stay here forever.
They actually do… people do dungeons every day with the idea of getting out as soon as possible… so yes, they do play content they don’t enjoy.
1) Anet want you to have a pet. Not to be a thief with long bow.
But its ok to be a Ranger with Stealth – Thief
But its ok to a Ranger with Heavy Armor – Warrior
Damage increase with pet dead or stowed isn’t OP. Period.
Of course, just because you say so. Your authority on the matter allows you not to provide arguments to your point. Perfect.
Ps. We don’t have thieves stealth capability and warriors don’t have our damage with bows. Don’t be like that.

Replace the 5 point Skirmishing minor trait with~
Lone Wolf: You gain +25% damage while your companion is stowed.
Fix the stow companion command so that when we stow a companion it stays stowed until we click the button again.
This would be ridiculously OP… if ANet ever decides to give you something without pet, expect around the 3%-5% increased damage without pet. They will always favor people using it.
Um, why do you say so? We’ve been told that the class has a -30% to -40% DPS modifier applied to it to offset the damage provided by the companion.
No companion, no penalty. Seem like a fairly equitable exchange. You can’t stow pets in combat, so it’s not like you can fight ‘til your pet dies then swap to this (and easy enough to set the fix “Pet Stow” command to not allow you to summon them in combat either). You’ be locking out a whole slew of (annoyingly) unavoidable pet effects, like giving up the pet’s first strike if you are invested in the Marksmanship line.
It creates a recognizable archetype and playstyle with pretty minimal changes.
I base my conclusion on 2 things:
1) Anet want you to have a pet. Not to be a thief with long bow.
2) Ranger damage is not that low if that it’s what you are seeking. Get a sword, horn, full zerk and you can kill things as fast as a warrior. I have both characters, a warrior and a ranger, both have full zerk dps builds and I can’t tell a difference. Warriors numbers are much bigger but ranger attk speed with sword is amazing. Both takes around the same (if not the same) time to kill something. +25% damage would be to much, waaaay to much.
Clearly you’re not as skilled at pushing 1 with your Warrior as you are with your Ranger. Damage isn’t comparable. The gap is made up for by the pet. The loss of the pet is why he’s asking for 25% more damage. 25% more damage isn’t going to compensate for the 1000dps difference between a sword ranger and a dagger thief.
lol I know, I need to push 1 better… but srsly; my warrior can kill a lvl 80 mob in a few axe hits (I use 30 0 0 10 30) build or just 1 100b. That is ~2 seconds (counting zero). My ranger melts things with the sword/horn (30 30 10 0 0 0). 25% would be too much.
And talking about thieves… to be honest… even though I have a ranger and not a thief; I would feel bad if we can do the same damage at melee. I don’t think a sword ranger and a dagger thief should be equal in dps. It just doesn’t feel right, as it wouldn’t feel right if a warrior can do the same damage with a LB than we do.
My plea to ANet would be to increase Rangers, Eles, Engies, Necros and Mesmer range damage to be as close as possible to other classes melee. If you think about it there is absolutely none range damage in this game meta and I think it hurts its design. Even though I love the concept that melee hits harder than range because its more risky, the damage difference is too high for certain classes and creates gaps like the ones we are discussing here. I mean, I’m sure something can be done to return the flavor of playing a ranged class.
Nah man I’m not hating,.. I know it is kitten chat or forums because you can’t hear the tone of how someone is telling you something but I’m not hating or trolling. I honestly don’t understand the “dressing codes” of some players.
When I think of Norns, the picture in my head is much more similar to the concept art, and I find this picture in particular closer to what I imagine of a Norn in medium armor (even the hooded norn in the middle).
I mean, CoF armor may suit a Charr wanting to be Flame Legion or maybe some parts like the legs for a Necro since they look ragged,.. but when I see a human ranger, full cof armor… it just puzzles me what’s on his head while dressing him. Maybe he doesn’t have transmute or the player is on the “gearing” phase and not dedicated to the look… but if you are working on a character look, concept behind the look always comes first in my book.

Players: Ranger is borked
Devs: Ok, u can haz reveal
Players: We are still borked
Devs: Ok, u can haz beginner guide u nub
Isn’t ‘^’ it a bit ironic to call a guide, a beginners guide? I mean… you start out being a beginner, you don’t need a guide to be one.
Wouldn’t it be better to make a more advanced guide? Like what can you know that everyone here don’t and that is why people complain so much about this class?
^ added this because the forums recognize the female breasts in isn’t_it.

I remember one release where the champs in Orr were instagibing for 20k+.
They hit like a little kitten.
Keep lords in WvW can hit 2200+ toughness builds for 50K damage.
and you think that’s ok?
It doesn’t sound very smart….
Can you imagine a meeting between this guys?
- Hey, I think the keeplord should hit for 65K damage…
- No, thats to much, make it 45K
- Ok, lets agree on 50K damage… sounds about right.
(?)
If they want to insta kill you,… its easier, saves code and processing.
Its not only i don’t like them.. it makes me not like the game as a whole. Before new wings, I’d like a button to hide all currently existing wings.
the fire usually goes on top of the logs to get warm, not on your arms…
now tell me… how good does it work being a living torch while trying to hide in the shadows?
I’m sorry I can’t say anything good of incinerator… it is as nice as the legendary bubble gun or the pony bow. It’s not a weapon.. its a Disney toy.
but that would cost them money, and the lack of attention to important things while placing it on gemstore toys indicate they are after a different goal.
No, I have a PS3 for that.
Besides, with lag… there is not a single mini-game that looks polished enough to be playable.
Is this level 80 content? Honest question, I didn’t played newest content.
No, its lvl ~20.
1300 dmg would be around ~10K in a lvl 80 content.
but that’s how you make a game harder! one shots!
/sarcasm
I got hit by 8.5K two consecutive times within a millisecond by a mob the size a small human concealed in a thousand fire effects. It happens.
Inflation goes faster than your capability to accrue gold.
My best drop so far has been like 5g, probably bit less since most exotics are much cheaper.
I was about to type the exactly same thing… my best drop so far was a 5g “rare” skin drop from a champion. That in 1.5K hours on my warrior, totally worth it.
The problem is people might farm the start of dungeons repeatedly with that kind of incentive.
and what is the problem with that? is still better than farming champions in huge zerg trains… at least they will have to do “something” being only 5 and not 50.
Do you seriously not see?
I don’t like it either, but I prefer to have those kind of players inside an instance than lagging a whole map with their stupid cho cho zerg-train way of playing.
For players like me far from the servers some maps are impossible to play because of the zergs.
for the love of good taste and immersion in the game please REMOVE ALL EXISTING WINGS!
kthxbye!
my thief (wich looks pretty awsome if you ask me)
it looks good for an elite killer (colors could be more real though), but you need to do something about your boots and gloves… you have a problem… ehmmm how to tell you this.. YOU ARE ON FIRE! GET WATER OR SOMETHING BEFORE YOU GET HURT!
(I never get the “I’m on fire” look… what crossed the armor designer’s head still puzzles me).
GW1: “oh noes! the enemy built a clever strategy! lets counter it with something else!”
GW2: “oh noes! the enemy built a clever strategy! lets drown them in rivers of tears!”
I’m sorry zerging is all you know, but if there is a strategy anti zerg, think something else. Don’t expect ANet to solve your own problems.

lol at achievement “armor”… I think they missed all the critics blizzard received when going that way, guess we still have many power rangers around
First of all, we have to think about pet types. Remember all pets follow species and groups.
If you say griffons, you have to think about adding the whole set of griffons (eagle, owl, etc). Griffons is a good choice because it adds a whole new species.
If we have to say 1 pet to add, it has to be one of the species we currently have. Like adding Rock Dogs as Canines. (This would be my choice).
(edited by Mesket.5728)
It would be cool a Quaggan pet
dude, that’s racist…
(wtf is video games doing to my head!)
they can’t gemstore you for fixing issues.
Why don’t we have Risen Dredge by the way?
you just spoiled the secret plot twist (?)
there aren’t corrupted dredge either or branded dredge
Dredges are inmune to Elder Dragon possesion! They will inherit the planet and be the new gods.
Though viper does sound awesome, and I was already planning on buying it. It looks like a copy and paste of durman armor to me. Why do we always get the coat ANet? Can’t we get something fitted and actually mature looking armor for medium?
Reality: medium

http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/files/costumes/292/65315/CI_65315_1341608356.jpgGood job on Heavy sets though, yes including female set.
Just to clear up some future debates, that is the Nightingale armor from Skyrim.
And the Nightingale armor would look amazing in GW2… they seriously need to come up with some new armor concepts instead of recycling the same coats and pants crap.
Skyrim got their kitten right while designing armors.
No kidding, I could sit for 5 hours straight just looking at the armor in Skyrim because of how detailed they are.
Are you serious, I can sit for hours looking at Skyrim’s armor without finding anyone looks good. Just needed to browse armor mod to have all pieces of armor modded. I love elder scroll series but seriously every game have to download player made armor skin. LOL
please, link an armor of your taste so we can understand what you mean… maybe you like flashy wow armors (AKA Neon power rangers) or anime naked godlike looking armors?
well.. my Sherlock instinct (¡?) tells me there will be something added regarding elite killing to give an incentive to actually fight them instead of skipping (perhaps something achievement wise). Then reality hits me like a train and I’m back to reality,… its ANet, looking back and forward again, if anything new is added it will be in the “kill 10K for a bubble gum and a pat on the back” line.
Incorrect guess. Silver mobs never existed in open world before. Now they will. This is a “challenging” mob that doesn’t drop a champ bag. Now anet can make their open world stuff harder without introducing a champ mob that could be potentially farmed over and over.
cough cough,… scarlet, cough.
Or kick 10.000 pugs.
this one is tricky cause while pugging, you are also a pug so its kinda of a western duel… when the clock’s bell tolls every starts kicking
God, all the armors look the same . . . eye patch and coats-skirts looks.
What happen with this designers!!
its funny how mid lvl armor (the ones you get for ~500 karma) are still better looking than most things added later.

The skins are boring… and lol at cliping while standing still
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/gw2-phalanx-heavy-armor-skin-male-2.jpg
You can also get most of the pieces on this set ingame already (with a tiny TINY variation) without wasting gems. Looks like a regular armor IMO without taste.
Lame designs in general.
The only 1 I liked was the first one (http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/gw2-tricksters-light-armor-skin-42.jpg). It is the only one I found original.
I better call all my friends that quit the game and tell them it is fixed now!
Ugh… more recycled glowing stuff instead of a real new weapon model…
I wonder if they are going to sell sun glasses with all the wowish glowing and particle fx implemented in the last 6-7 months.
This is Anti-GW1 model
I wouldn’t even care to rate her… the game was simply better without her. The whole world concept art and GW2 style as a whole decreased when all this robotic crap was introduced. I mean, someone inside is extremely fond with steam punk and this was forced so hard into the world that the whole plot sounds ridiculous. Like everyone just gave away their milenia crafting secrets to this spoiled Silvary?
I wasnt able to even start the tower… I’m climbing the initial stairs and BOOM ported back like if I’m dead…
happens everytime. I think is lag related (and missplacement in the world)
I have #4 in auto attack (?)
Engi, Ele and Necro. All have very unique mechanics and pretty well designed.
I love how engies gets double benefit for choosing a skill and it kinda fit in the concept as well (like having the flamethrower gives you flame bullets, or the shot and jump back with the pistol gives you the rapid fire with 2 guns on the belt).
Eles switching elements like Avatars in the Avatar airbender cartoon is also great. Each element giving buffs towards a certain aspect of the character (defense, offense, mobility, healing) is very well done.
Necro’s death shroud is algo great though it could be better. Switching planes with the death could have more benefits rather than another HP bar and some generic skills. Instead of those 5, you could have a whole skill set to choose and bring back some skills from GW1 like Necrotic Transversomething (cant remember the skill that let you teleport through death mobs), just an example anyway.
Out of these 3, I’ll go with Elementalist.
(Warriors adrenaline and Guardians virtues are to copy/paste from WoW and other games IMO, so does Ranger’s pet. Mesmer’s clones are OK but I expected much more than destroying them, another thing is that Mesmers in GW2 are nothing like Mesmers in GW1… they need more phantasmal and less butterflies).
(edited by Mesket.5728)
Just a quick question. is this the only topic for collaborative discussion or are we getting other ones for the other hot topics (e.g ascended gear, guild systems etc)?
No, this is what we got. I hardly believe living story beat class balance (and the many way players have to call it) but oh wel… class balance doesn’t sell on the gemstore. Living story does, so lets try at least to get this one right.
