I’m sick of birthday crashers putting the world at stake.
It would be nice to see something more “serious” for a change. I left the “evilness” of Skeletor in my childhood. Evil characters needs to have more depth.-
and please… no more items… no more currencies, tokens, collectibles, etc… I’m this close to hire someone to manage my bags and banks (also, already failed at bringing 6 friends back to the game because they got overwhelmed by the amounts of items, marks and stuff around the screen they didn’t understand, also the many things and skins they missed and never get back)

Thank you for the sixth year old “No you!” reply. It adds to the level of amusement reached by this thread.
In a game with SO many items, it would be useful to have it sort it out in the hero panel. Maybe even a consumable bag/list with 4? 6? slots
+1 OP, its a good idea but I’m afraid the thread will be banished to the wastelands (AKA suggestion forums).
*Player Character.9467:
Just because you’re allowed to play how you want doesn’t mean I have to play how you want by letting you be in my party.*
I did not take this as the level restriction set on the LFG message but more on a play stile or build difference (to what the famous post “play how toy want to” refers to). That is why I said nobody owns a party or it is entitled enough to actually dictate how the rest should play, unless it was previously specified on the party description.
If it was related to the topic, about being 80 or not, then I retract my message from that quote (and Player Character as target) but not the idea.
play how you want
Its funny and ironic, you using this as some kind of insult or sarcastic joke for others.
The funny thing is that the joke really is on you if you don’t play like you want to. Funy and sad.
Just because you’re allowed to play how you want doesn’t mean I have to play how you want by letting you be in my party.
you need more straw on your strawman’s head.
Who told you it is YOUR party? is his party for all i care too. I’ve seen entitled kids but man you just broke a record.
The instance owner is the one who’s party it is. Just to answer your question, though I’m sure you intended it to be rhetorical. That’s the funny thing about when people with an overestimated sense of their own cleverness ask a rhetorical question: it’s likely to get answered and make them feel bad and/or get defensive.
So whoever steps in first owns the party? That’s a whole new level of entitlement.
No, it’s not. If you start a party and ask for 80’s only, that’s your right. If a non-80 joins your party, you have every right to kick them. It’s not because he just joined the party, all of a sudden he/she gets the right to debate the merits of your party description.
If you join a party, you live up to their requirements. If I see a party description that says “Arah p3 lf2M Cleric’s gear and ranged weapons only”, I will see that this is not a party for me and not join. I’m not going to jump in, start melee’ing everything in zerker gear, only to get kicked and I’m most certainly not going to come on the forums to whine about it, because it’s my own fault. If I don’t live up to the expectations a party I join puts up, I have to deal with the consequences.
This is not a hard concept.
^ logic
It boggles my mind how many people come to this forum and want everyone to play their way, and people who don’t agree with them get called elitist. You play how you want to play in your party, but stop expecting to join other parties and expecting to tell them how to play. And stop coming to the forum raging that everyone doesn’t play the way you want.
Bright, that makes sense but it is not how the discussion developed in this thread. All out of nowhere someone said: “you can’t play how you want in my party”. What? As far as I know this game has no party leader system and if there was no pre-party agreement like the one you stated, I don’t see why anyone would take ownership and decide how the rest should play.
Using your own build and having a lay back moment of fun is a feature that comes with pugging that many players enjoy. Also, it is good practice for players who are experimenting with builds and don’t have a static 5 man group to do it. So if there is no message specifying what is being looked for in the LFG tool, I don’t see why anyone should kitten about someone’s build or play stile.

I’d hate for them to remove the leap. If they could make dodge over-ride the leap, that would solve the problem while keeping one of our precious few borderline OP attack options.
Indeed, that would be the perfect solution
What locoman said.
guardians are “spirit callers” and Mystic warriors. A “Ghostly” guardian would perfectly fit the description of a death knight.

If there are bots able to run dungeons… and I’m behind a video game developing company. Before I ban these bots I would contact whoever is making them and hire him to improve my AI.
Please, don’t. Never.
We already have enough emos and satan lost childs running around LA.
Wow that way →
Unnecessary imo, the only thing that needs changed for this to be an absurdly useful weapon is just removing the animation lock on AA. It’s suicidal to use due to not being able to dodge mid AA
I put it in another thread. Removing the lock will remove the leap. Sword is unique on rangers because it shortens the gap with its target automatically with #2 and #3.
I don’t care for the leap myself, but we need to agree on what we lose to have a working sword AA.
I love it. I find it original and “more real” since you are kind of beat down before you are totally death.
A tiny bit more mobility would be nice (like a small roll over, a dodge with half distance, if you are downed in a red circle) since not all classes have skills to move from AoE.
Personal note: I HATE warrior down skills. Specially Vengance (I’d rather have something to save myself than be 100% sure I’ll be dead, no i don’t trait for it).
Well there you have it, the game provides an option but you made your choice to not use that option. Several classes also have traits to increase damage when downed and possibly some additional effect. I would never take any of those traits either but that is mainly because I feel that it is much better to take something that will help be avoid ending up in the downed state.
some classes have skills that makes their downed state more useful. In the warrior’s vengance case, you need 20 points into a very narrowed trait line to make #3 useful at all.
In my case, #3 (since I don’t trait 20 points into that trait line) is as good as an empty square. I only have 3 downed skills, not 4. I don’t see Eles, Rangers, Mesmers, Thiefs, Engies, Guardians or Necros needing to spec to use their #3.
Like i said before, when downed, I want something to survive, not something that will guarantee a 100% chance to be totally dead. Vengance is not bad conceptually, but it should put you down to down state again instead of killing you (give it less duration probably). Something like: For the next 5 seconds or 5 attacks the player is back on its feet seeking revenge. Once either of those conditions occur, the warrior goes down again.
I like what you are trying to do looking for synergy with the pet.
I have 2 comments for your suggestions
- One thing it is not exploited on our pets is the attk speed. Instead of granting might or deal more damage, some attacks can also give quickness to the pet. Playing actively with the pet requires many times to call it back and re-send it into combat to keep the pet out of bosses PBAOE, so, why not have some control over the pets atk spd and give it quickness when you need to burst.
- I wouldn’t give so many conditions to our attacks. Remember that some weapons are based on conditions but some others has its damage based entirely on power. If we give an associated condition to every weapon, power builds will loose viability and will make ranger spec building narrower.
my 2c.
Ps. Regarding the sword… there is nothing that annoys me more than how it roots you with attacks 2 and 3 of the chain but that is because both attacks has a small leap to the target. The only way to remove the root is removing the leap and if you think about it, 1 attack cripples while 2 and 3 leaps towards it. It is IMPOSSIBLE to escape from a sword ranger unless you use some extra utility skill to extend the gap.

It is a fun fight, better than almost every other. I’m playing this game to have fun fights; if I don’t do them, why the hell am I even logging in?
There are really fun fights in this game, you just have to look for them.
Indeed there are many, but this one is one of them in my book. I don’t get it when people consider more fun to save, what? 1 min? 2 mins? of a dungeon run and want to skip it.

The fun killing him and seeing the rest of the group die trying is reward enough for me.

OP,
HOM is not for you. It’s for the people that supported NCSoft previously with the original version of Guild Wars. Yes, they have been playing this franchise for longer than you and ANet decided to transfer their achievements there to here (in a way).
You don’t have to do it now, so mentioning how annoying or pointless it is to do it now makes no sense.
instead who will use it, you must first define how would you use it.
Using the warrior as example since he is the “master of arms”
1H
Mace (defensive) – Defensive, very low attk spd, nice dmg, high cc
Sword (offensive) – mobility, high attk spd, medium dmg.
Axe (offensive) – Very high damage, good atk spd, no cc
2H
GS (offensive) – High damage and mobility, no CC
Hammer (defensive) – High CC, very low attk spd, nice damage.
Great Axe – ?
If you can fill the blanks with an idea (not skills, forget about skills and effects that comes way much later…), a concept for the great axe and why it is needed beside its coolness… then a dev may or may not start thinking about it.
Next we will have elementalists who doesn’t like elements and want to play pure arcane magic. Necros not fond with dead magic and Warriors that want to learn magic.
More news at eleven.
Ps. Rangers are archers, like thief are archers and warriors are archers. Choose yours.
Ps. (don’t think I don’t understand your petition,… but honestly; this is not the game for it. ANet showed many times that they are not doing as many changes as we would expect and something as radical as changing the class mechanic will hardly ever occur).
I’m not against it. In fact I’m mostly in favor of it because I’m tired of waiting for ANet to fix a problem that has been holding this class back for a year now. My issue is HOW to remove the pet and not make this class worse than it currently is.
Simply increasing my damage by 25% isn’t going to be enough.
Giving me access to a F1 skill to choose a pet mechanic like AE Fear on a 30 second cooldown wouldn’t be enough.Let me run through a scenario I use often on my Ranger….
I attack the target with any random weapon. Doesn’t even matter which. I send my hound it. First attack it leaps on the target. While the target is still down it howls and roots the target. As soon as they’re rooted I swap to my wolf and it immediately leaps on the target knocking them down again. As soon as it leaps I AE fear the target. That’s a HUGE chunk of time where I can shoot the target with relative ease or melee with only limited oppurtunity for the enemy to respond. And I can do this every 30 seconds.
How do you add this functionality into the Ranger class without making it overpowered? We’re not Warriors afterall! We shouldn’t be allowed to do this, only they can! God forbid I actually did real damage while doing this :/
I’d much rather they just fix pets or scale down their damage so low that they increase our damage and ANet can go back to not caring if F2 works as intended. If I can pull off the above, who cares… the ability is there and fate wouldn’t allow it.
That’s exactly it, though. The pet provides an immense amount of utility. That’s what it’s there for and what the ranger class was designed around when using the pet.
Increasing damage by 25% won’t accomplish anything, as currently, pets deal 40% of ranger/pet combined damage. So for every 100 damage dealt, the ranger itself only does 60.
Therefore a 25% increase in damage would net only an increase by 15, resulting in a total of 25% overall reduction still.
To reach the equivalent level of damage throughput, ANet would need to buff the values by 67%. That said, for the sake of assuming a pet dies, the damage increase would need to be reduced slightly, so a figure around the 40% area (making it thus 84) would be a tad bit more balanced.
Which is thus the tradeoff of the pet: It can do things and lock down targets, but it if it dies, you’re SOL.
Which is the purpose of re-defining the archer and trying to accommodate for multiple build paths while buffing the longbow. It loses out on some utility, and perhaps some performance on an idealogical level, but becomes a more stable and adaptable means of playing.
Of course, this also means that when playing a ranger without a pet, the ranger needs to learn how to properly kite and avoid damage or poor circumstances.
What are the forums for if it is not for giving out personal opinions? If you don’t like reading personal opinions I think you are on the wrong side of the internet.
Besides, if you absolutely despite the pet and made a ranger nonetheless… I seriously recommend you change your medication.
I’m not arguing with people’s right to have an opinion (I have one as well regarding this subject). I have an objection to those who try and simply ignore or argue the validity of other peoples’ opinions by their own.
Great if people like ranger as it is. Not asking for that to be taken away. Preventing others from progressing because they differ in their opinions is simply not constructive to anyone, though.
Using the pet is part of your character. How can I tell you this… If your character is 100%, you are probably around 75% and your pet is the other 25%. You want to be 100% on your own? why? while others struggle to keep their attention on their char and their pet at the same time you want to be as good as them with half the effort? Is not simple to control the pet, swap them, use their F2 properly, choose them properly… not all can be a pokemon master (?).
If you don’t want to use, don’t… choose a bird and put in on passive. Voila! you’re quasi a petless ranger.
Asking for the pet bonus to be granted to your character is like a warrior asking to hit his targets without having to move at them… no man, its the way your class is played. if you don’t want to handle a pet, deal with the consequences of reduced damage and utility.
Exactly, all of that is your personal opinion. Your basis for arguing is that just because you’re enjoying yourself, other people should be as well even if they are not and explicitly know why.
I absolutely despise the pet mechanic, and I did have a warrior main as well. Warrior bow is underwhelming to say the very least – not to mention that it doesn’t even make sense conceptually.
So I must keep iterating: Why is every pet user against the concept of allowing a ranger to not use a pet while SO MANY PEOPLE keep asking for such a change? It doesn’t change anything for those who like pets. All it does is allow options for those who don’t want them.
What are the forums for if it is not for giving out personal opinions? If you don’t like reading personal opinions I think you are on the wrong side of the internet.
Bow warriors make as much sense as a petless ranger. It’s all a matter of opinion… the game designer opinion. Since Rangers have pets and Warriors have bows, we already know his opinion so just deal with it.
Besides, if you absolutely despite the pet and made a ranger nonetheless… Is like hating magic and rolling an elementalist.
(No, the “I want to be an archer, a scout without an animal following me!” does not apply for this game. Rangers in GW has pets since forever. I’m sorry you don’t like it. I’d love to ride gryphons but this is not the game for it so I want demand it here).

No, you are not alone. Several others opened the very same thread many many times.
Working Pet > No Pet.
From your perspective, yes. From others’ no.
You have other classes that can bow people down if bow is what you like.
No, we don’t. I have a feeling you haven’t tried these other classes. It’s not even close.
Many (like me) chooses the ranger exclusively for the pet, and if anytime in the near future ANet make Ranger’s meta without a pet, it will be us who will be crying in the forums.
plastic spiders was a good test devs, now add our pets some dodging AI.
Nobody’s asking for a pet-less meta. People are asking for options. If a style of play is better than another due to numbers, then that’s ANet’s issue to fix. Fact of the matter is that people are upset because there’s no archer style of play in this entire game, which accounts for a huge amount of people.
Pet users would be crying because of power-related issues. Non-pet -wanters are not upset because skirmish/pet ranger is stronger than bow/solo ranger, but because bow/solo (archer) ranger play styles are not accommodated for, nor are builds which focus on archery viable in pretty much anything except trash mob 1v1’s, which all classes can easily do lol.
I have a warrior as main and used bow so much that wasted 250 t6 on the backpiece just fot the quiver look. You can play a soldier(not stats, conceptually)-archer and have fun.
I deleted my thief (no more room for alts) to create a ranger just for the pet, whenever I saw a ranger with the pet i felt something was missing with my shortbow thief…
I have so much fun with my ranger that it’s slowly turning into my main, all I need is 2 more zerk ascended jewelry and I’m done.
Pet > everything while on my ranger. It’s awesome to get so many to choose depending on what you want at the moment. They provide extra skills that even if you don’t notice, they are there and very useful.
no class is perfect, but removing the pet is in my opinion the worst approach for it is what defines the class.

This paragraph made me lol cause just yesterday I came across a 10-15 man group in wvw that consisited of one Ele for water fields and the rest hammer warrior/guards. Maybe the devs haven’t ran in to this to see that maybe Hammer cc needs toned down?
actually if they took the time to gather 15 warriors and 1 ele for heals, keep it tight and play on sync; they deserve to win.
What did you do to counter that? Did you expect your regular zerg strategy to work on something that was probably design to destroy zergs? Do you want ANet to solve your problems? I mean, hammer CC builds are annoying and a pain in the kitten but it is not ANet’s job to resolve it; it’s ours as thinking players.
Wait until they add a few tweaks to the game mechanic. This far, I assume they already acknowledge the flaws of their core design and supplement it with something interesting that will make all builds and specs useful in dungeons. Variety will be once again desired and unicorns will vomit rainbows inside dungeons and… I need to get off this medication.

Well you are about to hear it here. World first game where this will happen
That’s how GW1 was, lol.
In Gw1 players paid lots to get the elite armors just for extra details, same stats.
Hardest armor to get was in fact something to show off and not for the stats.
Here we will have it for the stats and hide for its hideous look. It’s like the worst combo.
How do you get the weapons and the trinket stuff currently?
Will they release better stat weapons with the ascended armor?
Does anyone have links to the stats/looks of the weapons?
search on the wiki. It’s all there.
Ascended weapons already have better stats than exotic. Some look ok, others you have to use your imagination to figure out how that would work as a weapon instead of a wall decoration.
Well personally I hate people showing off. I personally like to dress up my characters and make my own choices there. I want to be outstanding cause I have a special look, not just what everyone else has.
Ascended armor could’ve been part of that special look instead of clown.
Hardest piece of armor to get and then transmute it to a 1K karma looking gear.
I insist… ANet should go back to the designs that filled their servers over an year ago.

Running back is an unavoidable evil. Imagine if you can just WP right next to the enemy garrison you’re trying to siege, the fight would never get anywhere as the two sides just constantly respawn next to each other.
Yes, I understand that if you had so many traveling options it would be people porting right next to the next objective; but you can have some balance. In WvW WPs are as far as they can possibly be (except for the owner of the borderland which is still far from the action). The maps has so many highlands and fallings that even if the map distance is not that far, running to the action takes forever… if only we had warmounts (only for wvw) or something for this maps to fast travel, but we have to run very long distances.
If you don’t believe this is a problem here,… see how many players equip skills for speed in WvW instead of skills to either kill more or die less. Yes logistics at war is important, but we are trying to have fun in our limited time of playing (us, adults) and wasting 10-15 minutes run for 5 seconds of zerg vs zergs is a low.
Zergs being unorganised or organised is completely up to the player (or the commanders of each side). You got good commanders co-ordinates different teams to perform different roles across the map, and bad commanders who does the complete opposite.
Not every single form of mass PvP requires tanks or body-blocking. The’re plenty of other mechanics to use.
(placed this 2 together to answer as the same topic)
Even the best commanders look like a bunch of 5 year old kids playing futbol or football (or soccer for people in US). Ever seen them? they all go after the ball. Since the game has no real roles associated to players (not for class, not for builds…) AND there is no way to organize raids and groups,… even the best commanders lack the tools to really organize armies. The best they can do is keep them close together and use weird things like hidding an army in a thief tent, or using mesmer portals…. those are not really war strategies but clever things used at the moment. Where is the “heavies at front, melee dps flank them, ranged to the top, support in the middle?” There is no such a thing.
Other games had it and it was great.
Also, I don’t know about you, even in UW, one of the worse servers in the silver league, I see armies of people in WvW most of the time.
You will always see people. But tech limitations set the players quota for the maps too low and even when the servers are full there is only room for 1 or 2 zergs. You won’t see many simultaneous combats and most of the time what you see is zergs running in circles avoiding each other until they clash, resolve the battle in secs, and keep avoiding each other taking empty camps.

+1 to this thread
yes, +1
unfortunately, a game adding RP elements after release is more rare than a unicorn
Numbers are fine, it makes our life easier while playing with builds and builds are what traits are for.
If you put icon to skills AND icons to traits it will soon be a mess if new skills AND new traits are implemented. Icons on one place and numbers on the other its easier than icons everywhere.
Don’t compare with GW1. I love its icons on skills and all but if you remember, attributes were numeric as well and there were no traits.
What waste of 80 handy players… that could fil some WvW spots.. :].
The is no point in PVE
There is no point in WvW either… The game is not oriented towards PvP. It’s just a minigame for when you are tired of the same things.
I respectfully disagree – this can be sorted out by having a pet turtle. Turtles sort out everything.
Turtles F2 power = “Sorting Things Out”
When you swap to the turtle the first skill in the chain will be “Gonna think about it.”
You can´t swap turtles. They immediately say “Y U DO DIS” while they keep “moving” closer to the target.
F2 skill: Sort things out. 1 day cooldown. Automatically resolve any conflict in Tyria.
In GW2 we can read our builds without the need of “Yeah, in that line I use the doggy face and the broken ankle” Ô.ô!!! sounds more logical to simply say 30 – 1, 5 and 11.
Roman numbers instead of conventional numbers are used to give some kind of iconic representation already, putting a bear paw won’t make it better.
Hammer is fine. Dodge it.
Their hammer is fully equipped with excessive Permas beyond any class weapons in the game, and to me that is bad design.
what is “Permas”?
I heard some complains about some runes causing excesive ammounts of confusion but other than that… I don’t see any way Hammer can be OP. It has average damage at very slow attack speed and the same cooldown as any other weapons. It doesn’t even have its own +x% plain damage but a +x% damage to incapacitated which is situational and you can only get like a one or two lucky hits with the bonus on it.
I understand Warriors can be thought but aim your complain better. I hardly believe the hammer is the issue.
You think this is sad, wait till they revamp Jormag and Shatterer and they never get done on your server to. Come back then and tell Anet how ya feel.
Trust me, I know, it never gets done anymore on any server I don’t think, it’s just like the Karka Queen, they introduced it, people did it, now it never gets done anymore, cept on very very rare occasions.
They should leave Jornag and Shatterer as it is for the casuals (change the end of the fight and make him fly away instead of dying) and do another revamped fight as guild mission (guilds activate it, summon the dragon and have the real challenge, of course; casuals can join as any other guild challenge).
Sorry but no. They added Guild Content already. Removing content from casual players once, and yet again ?
No, just no. Teq and any open world encounter should be open to all players. If you want “hard mode content” there’s this handy guild challenges thing Anet could use to fulfill that quota while bringing more usefulness to the “Hardcore” crowd.
please read it again… i think you missed the part where I mentioned leave it for the casuals as well 2 times.
guild challenges are started by guilds but happens in the open world. Anyone can join and get a chest at the end.
