Suggestion: Unlocking Runes/Sigils

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miku.6297

Miku.6297

1. The price of runes/sigils is based on the demand. The demand would go up thus the prices would go up. Problem solved.

I’m confused, why would this make demand go up? I understand you would need to buy the rune ONCE to try something new, then you could switch back for free… Wouldn’t that make the demand on the rune you already have go down?

Anyone who understand the system isn’t buying runes until 80, even though they’re level 60 and could be applied much earlier. The reason being that the current system punishes you for doing that by forcing you to either recover the runes or buy new ones. People aren’t doing that when it’s easily to simply not use runes until you can put them into something worth having.

Can’t people still use BL salvage kits to get their runes back (as long as it’s not karma or wvwvw gear)?

I don’t really see this “Stimulating” the economy, most people want to use the best rune set for their class/build. Those that do like trying different things pay a bit more to experiment and play around. With this idea, many that currently don’t try new runes still won’t, and many that do, will continue they just won’t have to re-buy runes they already have. Which would reduce demand.

Who are you talking about? ^^; I play a mesmer I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing something that looks like that. Now if it was that new Anisse outfit coming out….

I just don’t think it’s right for someone to be using a bug/exploit to gain early access to something. I will admit my reaction to this specific case may see ma bit more harsh, but when a player asks the person using this how he got it, and the response is “I have this armor because I’m the best”, I lean more towards reporting.

Not being able to get a decent name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miku.6297

Miku.6297

From what I recall GW2 never let you have the same character names, head start till now. So there could be only one Siela Riviere (using one of my name as an example).

I believe that is how Champions Online does it. Pick any name you like and people can use your global name to keep track of which Darkgloom Puppykicker you are.
Only issue there is the possibility of people impersonating others.

champions online use to use your account name so xxxxxxx@xxxxx. There was also no way to hide that info.. every chat message you sent would be charactername@accountname: “hi there how are you today”

so you could have multiple people with the same name, however many people didn’t like having their account name attached directly to literally everything they said.

As for solving the mmo problem with names, I still don’t see how adding numbers to something really fixes it… I wouldn’t mind using my acct tag in game.. Miku, however I would certainly not be a fan of being Miku.6297 in game.

LFG tool: Add class filter

There is really little difference between classes.

I agree with the idea everyone should be able to play what ever class they like in a dungeon, however this line is blatantly untrue… There is definitely a power balance issue for some classes in dungeons

How did you all play this for 3 years without complaining about this? you just bend over and take it?

There are some people who click skills, I’m not really sure how they are doing with the current speed…

Though for the last 3 years I have been useing hot keys 12345qwerf for my skills… so I can move and hit them just fine.

Nothing against people who like to click to use skills, most people feel they play FAR better when useing hotkeys to activate.

This was originally why Anet added numbers to our account names so we could all have the in-game names we wanted. Why they stayed with the same old mmo problem I don’t know.

If adding numbers or extra characters was what he wanted, I really don’t think he would have any trouble getting a name. Adding numbers does not solve that same old mmo problem at all xD

I agree! If I don’t like my character name odds are good I won’t be playing the character long.

With the current name limitations: Spaces, many special characters, and a 21ish limit, I’ve never really had any trouble coming up with a name I liked though

Maybe ask around and I’m sure you will get TONS of suggestions. Just let people know what type of name are you looking for, what type of character it is, and any other details and I’m sure people would be happy to suggest things as well.

LFG tool: Add class filter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Miku.6297

I normally would be 100% against something that adds exclusivity to play, but there is one positive arguement for a lfg filter like this. As it currently stands groups sometimes will put if they are looking for specific classes in their LFG message; many times they don’t. If a class joins they don’t like two people vote kick and the cycle continues. Over all what I’m saying is: People that want to use this type of thing for exclusive play ALREADY do use the current tools to play that way.

The one big hole I see in the whole LFG filter idea is. Group A lists for a warrior only, player b joins as a warrior then instantly switches characters.

What I would support: A LFG filter that lets you flag classes you would prefer or not prefer to join, anyone can still join but it would let players that are concerned about speed or performance help find like minded players.

I’d say report and move on, it’s a known bug from the beta.

If anything, whisper the player and tell them they are intentionally using a bug, and maybe they want to take the armour off because it’s not fair to players who don’t have it yet.

OP did say the armor user was whispered, I highly doubt someone kittenponds with "I have this armor because i’m the best” is going to take it off because he got access to it through a bug/exploit.

So you don’t know what weapon they are holding but you do know how many might stacks they have running? ^^;

A necro with a crit build + death shroud life blasts might be able to pull that off. But if hes useing the dagger 1 for instance; he is NOT doing 4k per hit with that attack.

Hmm I haven’t checked the latest builds for the two, but I’m going to guess Ele. On top of having great DPS they also have alot of group strengths from buffs (fields + finishers)

I know the 1 is usually the auto, but what skill in particular (mainhand weapon + class) is hitting that hard… Keep in mind alot of the floating numbers actually add up they are not actually hitting for 4k per hit. A great example of this is Rangers LB 2 skill each time an arrow hits the number goes up because it is adding each hit to the previous number.

The scaling of strength

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miku.6297

Miku.6297

Indirectly stronger, slightly better stats and more options is far better than absolutely stronger.

The idea is to keep the game entertaining for players at all levels in all areas. If you come in to something with 2x the stats of a player at the appropriate level and gear for the area either: A) You will easily crush any enemies in your path or… The person at the appropriate level is going to have one hell of a hard time fighting there. Either option is not good. So by downleveling and scaling all stats as a whole, it keeps things closer to even for a more enjoyable experience.

^^ Early release, anyone remember being an exotic zerker thief with the d/d 4, I mean it was funny for a few mins, then extremely boring… Not to mention if you were playing with other people good luck on them doing anything.

The scaling of strength

Exotics are scaled down, but it definitely DOES matter. An 80 in full zerker will easily kill faster then a 20 in masterworks. Scaleing does take place, but the stat layout and value of higher level items even after scaleing is a bit higher.

The scaling of strength

Thunder, the NPE really hasn’t helped the feeling of progression, however as you level up and get new traits some classes definitely start to feel better, others not so much.

What might help is if you tried viewing “stronger” from a different angle. Instead of being able to kill lower level things faster, you can now fight higher level things, you have more options and tools at your disposal, and you can tailor your stats a little more to fit the role you wish to play.

If the only way you will feel “stronger” is if you can go back to lower level areas and rofl stomp everything in sight because you out gear/stat it, GW2 is probably not the game for you.

Yes if they put the item up for sale permanently it will net some sales right away, and a few later on; that’s a given. Keep in mind, alot of the SAB gem shop items were offered the initial release and the back to school release… Many of the players asking for SAB are people that played during the SAB events… If they didn’t buy the items then, why would they now?

Have you noticed a trend in the gem shop item/sales… There has been TONS of temporary content release and removed, do you think there is a reason behind that?

You are dodging my question…

Do you think people don’t buy more/faster if they are told, buy it now befor it’s gone.

Also remember one posable reason for temp gem store content is… Permanent stuff is easier to buy with in game gold, you have how ever long you want to think about it, and how ever long it takes to earn the gold and buy the gems. Temporary items on the other hand have a limited time frame, you decide you want it, then you better grind the gold out or pull out your wallet befor it leaves.

I am 100% serious in asking the question.

I’m sure A-net/NC-soft has people that look at potential profit margin; gain and loss. To help make decisions on what is permanent and what is not. As well as others that look at overall game health; player spread/division between content etc.

Do you honestly think people don’t buy more/faster if they are told, buy it now befor it’s gone.

Are you sure a happy customer spends more money then customers who enjoy/think somethings cool, and buy it because it’s listed as “limited time”?

Do you have any proof that permanent = more income? Many minitures are not permanent additions to the gem store, many items are also not permanent… I have a feeling there is financial reason backing this decision. Which leads one to believe, impulse/I don’t want to miss it buys sell very very well.

mtpelion I agree completely, knowing if/when it would be back would be awesome. At least it has a chance to come back, unlike some of the other mentioned content. All we can do is wait and hope for a return.

I love the idea of underwater content, I just hate the balancing. Alot of the skills are cool, and fun to use, just not with the amount of HP and slow fighting that tends to come with underwater.

Honestly I was becoming afraid it was getting phased out entirely… Underwater removed from the S-PVP rotation in unranked/ranked, no new underwater content since… Uhh has there ever been any new underwater content released? All in all it things look bleak for underwater.

I’d say the best shot we have at getting more is when and if A-net ever decides to have us take care of the ominous threat known only as BUBBLES.

Remember to keep in mind, just because it’s fully completed content doesn’t mean it will ever be fully brought back. There is tons of content that’s fully complete that we don’t get to keep year around… Wintersday events, haloween events, Molten facility, Tower of night mares, queens jubilee… The list goes on and on. Yes, some of the content I mentioned does come back seasonally but not all of it has made a return.

I’m 90% sure the point of temp content is to draw people back in and keep them playing, giving players the “I don’t want to miss it” feeling.

I’ve actually been reading through most of the SAB posts, and I’m curious what is the justification besides “we want it” for SAB to be made permanent? Player base splitting, reward influx, temp draw are all reasons to keep it temporary. What are the reasons for it to be permanent?

Just to clarify once again I would also love to see it be made permanent, I enjoyed playing it while it was around ~I’ve even kept my coin and baubles~. I’m just interested in seeing what other reasons beyond “we want it”. The OP is asking for a logical response from the devs as to why it’s not open permanently, yet offers no concrete reasoning other then “more players like me want to play it”. Lets get some solid logical reasons out here, and maybe we would get a solid logical answer

The skin prices were never MEANT to be what they are now. They sold for a couple of gold each during both the events, because anyone could go and unlock their own anytime they wanted, in an hour or two.

The reward system was one of the best things about SAB, they can’t go kittening that up when they bring it back. The blue skins are supposed to be cheap and easy to acquire, it’s only the green, yellow, red and purple skins that are supposed to be prestige weapons.

It’s kinda silly that my characters are running around with the complete blue set at a higher value than a legendary right now. Even having them all myself, I am completely opposed to them staying at such an insane value. They should be just as easy to get as before.

That’s like saying any of the event or BL chest skins were never meant to go up in value. If it can’t be obtained it WILL go up in value: Low/no supply due to time limited = higher value due to demand. Do you think the ghastly shield/scythe staff skin were suppose to be in the 2-3k range or was that also “never MEANT” to happen?

If the reason people want the SAB back is because they enjoy playing in it that’s one thing but, I don’t think rewards should be the main reason… Yes it would be nice to get the skins without having to buy them; However, if that is the main reason for wanting the SAB back, that’s a little more financialy motivated then saying “I just like playing in it”

Like I said befor I’m 100% in support of bringing the SAB back, it really hurts no one. Those who don’t like it, don’t play it. The only concern I would have is the impact on the economy/bltp, as well as other things like obbies etc… (actually obbies would be nice).

Obviously the skin prices will tank if/when it comes back, if it’s permanent… even more so.

The only other hang up could possably be obbies… I’m far from against having another way to get them. Simply stating that it would increase the income rate

This idea might make it even worse though, I guess, as ATM they have to assume and ask, rather than just looking.

It would definitely make the situation worse, with one quick click the players gear and build gets “quality” checked. This just enables elitism, with very few other benefits.

As far as builds being “wrong” or right, in GW2 PVE dungeoning isn’t what I would consider challenging. Most dungeons can be beat in most set ups. Just DPS DPS DPS makes it faster. Keep in mind comparing GW2 and WoWs dungeoning is far from an even basis (unless wow has changed a TON) GW 2 has no trinity so it’s mostly personal survival and DPS, meaning damage stats = faster clears 95% of the time.

I’ve done lots of dungeons, out of all my runs, I’ve only encountered a few pushy people giving people “advice”; as long as no wipes happen.

I totaly agree with removing the stacking strat, most dungeons could be broken down into character sized areas everyone stands to hit 1 and kill a boss.

the arguement that it’s not unless you want to doesn’t really work. Exe: Player A does not want to use it as a gear check, player B does… Player A joins player B’s group, player B checks his armory to make sure hes up to his “standards” = the system just got used as a gear check, even on someone who does not want it use it that way.

The armory in Diablo has provided me with more help than any bullying, I dont think anyone ever said well thats a crap bow, you cannot come.

It’s not really about if you care or you don’t care what other people think of your chars. It’s about the overall impact something like this would have on the community and the game.

It’s basicly a gear checker; so the normal use is to allow players to be more exclusive vs inclusive. Someone joins, you don’t like his gear so… kick. (The only advantage would be the ability to stop someone from joining a group requesting zerker and lieing. allthough the fact that people would even feel the need to lie is more proof of the reason this tool would be abused)

I don’t really think the comparing GW2 to D3 is an even field, the games are reasonably different.

I really don’t see how people can say “i don’t want people to know what i’m wearing”

Why? I think people highly overestimate how many people would actually use this feature to see what you’re wearing.

They would have to Minimize the game, go to the guild wars 2 website, go to the armory, search your name, browse your armory and then guess whether the information the server has gathered is up to date or not.

Minimizing the game or using an alternate monitor would be a trivial time expenditure. I don’t really care if people know what I’m wearing or not, but I would prefer to avoid the inclusion of a tool that’s primary use would be to bully or force people to play certain ways.

Just a skin viewer I’m 100% fine with (though it makes more sense to just ask or use the wardrobe to look for yourself)

As far as showing what people have achieved, we already have cheevo points, how would being able to view someones armor/stats help you see what they have achieved?

Because the skins in game are also connected to collections and those collections’ rewards can in some cases provide an advantage to the player in terms of farming and therefore increase their abilities beyond other players in the economy, then yes, that would be an exploit and therfore Anet would be completely justified in punishing the account/account holder.

So then if with the skins as I said all you got were the skins (no collections nothing trade/sellable) All they get is the skins (many skins are not part of collections) In GW2 the graphic/look is what has value. Im not saying a ban is justified, I’m simply trying to understand why people are saying look/apperance is in no way a benefit. If apperance/looks are worth nothing then why do people pay the amounts of gold they do for them.

In point of fact, due to the shear volume of whispers the player says they experienced, it was a distinct disadvantage to game play.

Now that’s not something I hear every day… Someone getting attention for having something that looks cool is a distinct disadvantage… Most people show that type of stuff off for a reason.

Once again not saying it’s ban worth, I just disagree with the fact that graphic/apperence = 0 benefit.

Did the person gain an advantage in the game that you didn’t have? No.
Does it warrant a ban? No.

Let me get you a ladder, so you can get off your high horse.

Been asking this to people saying this and not getting a response. Does being able to use a skin/armor graphic in a game where graphic is the end game goal not count as an advantage?

Example: If there were some way to unlock every single weapon/armor skin without having to earn them, would people consider using it an exploit? They couldn’t sell or trade any of them and all they are is graphics (same as this).

So according to you, sit jumping back in the day was an exploit? When I get bored and spin around as a tree using a tonic, I’m exploiting? Exploit implies some sort of unintended benefit, not “a bug was involved”.

This post has actually made me curious… So many people claiming using the armor skin is of no benefit there for not an exploit… So that means being able to parade around in said armor skin isn’t a benefit?

.. Following that logic, if there were some way to unlock every single weapon/armor skin without having to earn them, would people consider using it an exploit? They couldn’t sell or trade any of them and all they are is graphics (same as this)

You can use the alt account for the daily login rewards and laurels i guess,

Can you use those laurels or other rewards to make gold some how?

Yes you can, buy t6 crafting bags and open them, then mail the mats or sell and mail the gold.

An advice for new people!

This happens every once in a while, and when it does it is frustrating. Honestly A-net should do something to prevent or punish exploiting the current system.

However that being said, the problem is not as large scale as the OP makes it sound, I’ve done countless dungeons, and I have never encountered this problem. I’ve been in complete random groups, groups with two guild memebers, even done some as the odd man out 4 guild members + me and we did just fine.

Keep in mind when coming to the forums and reading things like this, the only posts you will find are usually about negative experiences. It would be interesting to see how big a thread we could get going if people posted for every successful clear complete with groups from the LFG tool.

How it can be. Player with high AP (i,e, high game activity) but don’t know game?
I expect that player with +5k AP (maybe less) know everything about game.
Noobies with +10k AP very disappointing.

I actually enjoyed reading this~~ Calling out people for “Not knowing the game”, when hes using AP as a guide to how skilled/knowledgeable someone is. Most people who “Know the game” know that AP is an unreliable measurement of player skill.

AP is easy to get… you can get a total of 15k from dailies alone. 10 each day from EXTREMLY easy and fast tasks. Also LW/LS provides very fast and easy points, most of which are all easily gotten without ever setting foot in a dungeon.

I’ve been playing since head start, have over 15kAP and I don’t know “everything” about the game.
