I am caught in the middle between the two sides of “Ap shows skill” and “Ap doesn’t matter”. I pretty much do every aspect of the game and that has given me 7k ap since 2013. So when I go to do all the dungeons in the game daily (Been farming for legendary) i obviously hope to get in and out as quick as possible without many screw ups. Now for some dungeons like AC p1-3 and cof p1. Newbies are common and i usually don’t have a problem. But when i am trying to run TA aetherblade (whoever has run it before you know the difficulty) its tough to hold someones hand through the dungeon. I clearly state in my LFG “TA aether 80’s expierenced” But when a 700 ap person joins i know immediately that the person has not run this dungeon yet. I have not been proven wrong yet when it comes to it. Am I a impatient man? No. Do I want to devote a extra 30+ minutes teaching someone the dungeon path? No.

As someone who has gathered over 11k AP since release, I have never done this path, which just goes to show how inaccurate it is at higher amounts. I think it’s pretty safe to say that someone with <1k AP will be relatively new to whatever they’re facing, unless it’s an alt account.

If you log to character select and back in it does fix it for a little while, and I believe it also temp fixes itself if you zone transition.

Yeah enough with the “encouraging”. I don’t want my small female asurans to have to compete with massive norn and charr in the stupid daily events now, let alone having to try and finish a jumping puzzle because of them.

What would tempt me to do a jumping puzzle I’ve already done? Monthlies. That’s what did it. No pressure, and no crowd to compete with.

That and doing it just for fun. I like the challenge with Troll’s Revenge and I do it now just for kicks. I’m getting really good at it – so much so that I’m not even taking a mesmer (Portal) or a necro (Necrotic Traversal) up there.

Also it really should be noted in this thread that jumping puzzles do not count towards map completion.

Loot When Downscaled Should Be Revised

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miss Lana.5276

Miss Lana.5276

After doing a downscaled dungeon run today (TA Exp, no skipping, kill each mob), all my loot is level 80 beside 1 piece of level 75. Not a single piece of level 55 armor or weapon to be found

When you’re downscaled, the gear that drops is appropriate to your level. This is why it’s better to do World Bosses on characters over level 69, as the rare items they get will yield ectos, etc.

As to the crafting materials, what they’re doing with the new map rewards is showing which maps can give what rewards, so if you want something in particular you can pick the map that has it.

The only things that affect the price of, well anything on the tp really, is supply and demand. If it’s better for a newer player to sell now and buy or grind for it later, then that’s up to them. When the supply exceeds the demand, that’s when prices will go down. As far as I see it, there’s no issue there. Newer player just have to work for it, like we all do, but a little harder.

While I understand that AP is not an indication of skill, if they posted that they required you to have 6k AP in the description, then – to be completely blunt – it is your fault for joining when you knew you didn’t have what they asked. The description is there for a reason. If you don’t like the premise that a group has been based on then don’t join it. You can always find casual/newbie groups that run just for kicks. Or heck, even form one yourself.

I disagree with this idea completely. If this is removed people will still find a reason to kick you, whether it be that you’re a Sylvari, or you’re not wearing the right gear, etc.

i really hope they DONT re-add them,
it would totally ruin the prestige, not to mention the market.

i like that there are actually some rare items in this game,
weapons that are supposed to be special like Eternity are all over the place.

tl;dr “kitten you got mine”.

There is no “prestige” in items that were distributed by RNG.

Agreed. As far as I can see so far in-game the only items with “prestige” are the luminescent armor sets, but even that’s stretching it a bit.

As to the OP, yeah I’d like it if they added some of those skins back in. Suggestion: addition of player inspection

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miss Lana.5276

Miss Lana.5276

No to a stat inspector. Keeping elitist mindsets out of the game as much as possible would be fantastic. As mainly a PvE-er I find it horrendous the amount of abuse hurled around in PvP. Keeping that toxicity out of PvE would be fantastic.

With that being said I know why “elitists” run what they run and I do understand it, but a lot of the time things could be handled better on their part. Also people joining the groups specifying “no <profession>” and “more than <x> account points” when they don’t fall under those categories shouldn’t get mad when they are kicked. The description in lfg is there for a reason after all. Respect is needed all around.

Yes to a skin inspector, though as many people have said you can already check skins at the bank under the wardrobe tab or ask the person using them – people generally don’t mind answering. I know I wouldn’t mind

Certain cutscenes crash my game

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Miss Lana.5276

I noticed previously that whenever I went to try and watch the cutscene about living story season 1 in LA that my game crashed. No big deal I guess, so I watch it on youtube.

I just go through the LS season 2 again and finish killing the Shadow of the Dragon for the second time (with much frustration because there’s been bad skill lag since beta started for me), only to have the game crash when the cutscene tries to load.

So I log back in and am informed that I have to start it all over again.

Is there any way that a dev could progress my character in the LS to reflect what I have actually done? This is seriously enfuriating.

Edit: I only had the files downloaded that were necessary to play the game. Maybe this affected my inability to watch the cutscenes, I’m not sure.

As much as you have a right to show it off, we have a right to choose not to see it.

You can just play tetris then, no skins to be seen in there. Unless you want all the blocks to have the same color.

You’re taking this to the extreme. I never said anything about not seeing my own. I dress my characters up for myself, not for others. If others want to hide certain things that I have equipped I have no issue with it, as it wouldn’t affect me seeing what I have made, nor would it to those attention seeking kittens.

This discussion is almost like politics or religion. I have my own opinion which I don’t always show to others because they may not want to see it. Then there are the opinionated kittenhats that want to shove their views down other people’s throats.

Can we get an option to hide...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Miss Lana.5276

What is the point of buying Gem store skins if you can’t show it off?

Players have the option to turn off skins and outfits via the “simple character model” option in the graphics menu. Also, minis are automatically hidden on maps with a high population. Yet, they’re still pumping out new gemstore outfits and minis no problemo… so, I really don’t see any impact on revenue from something like this because it already exists in the game to a certain level…

I buy gemstore armor for my own enjoyment. I couldn’t care less if other players ogle me, or ignore me.

People who purchase cosmetic items do so for themselves not others.

What satisfaction do you get from showing off pixels in a video game?

Note: this isn’t directed at anyone in particular bar the ones saying but muuuum why can’t we show it oooooofffffff?

This is what you fail to understand. No one gives half a rat’s kitten about your aesthetics but you. . I don’t give a kitten if you bought purdy skins from the gemstore and want to show it off, and I’m sure there are hundreds of others who feel the same (including the ones that I have quoted). That’s your problem if you’re seeking acception and attention from other people because of purdy pixels. Do it for yourself. As much as you have a right to show it off, we have a right to choose not to see it.

Weapon swapping [suggestion]

My last comments on this topic are these;

- It’s too late into the game to make a radical change like this
- I feel that it would get way too cluttered
- The classes are this way for a reason

And last, but certainly not least;

- If you want more available skills, play an ele or engy

tl;dr stop trying to make more weapon swaps happen. They’re not going to happen.

Idea for account bound harvesting tools

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miss Lana.5276

Miss Lana.5276

I think account bound was a good compromise.

Did you know if you hop into the PvP lobby there’s a banker there?
And when you leave the game puts you right back where you were (barring instances)?

Hop in, drop of pick
Swap toon, hop in, grab pick, hop out.
Yeah, it’s a few more loading screens but you don’t have to actually take the toon you’re swapping to all the way to a city.

When I need to farm ore in the world I park all – yes all – my characters at that particular node and do this trick, but logging out while in the PvP lobby was much easier than having another loading screen.

Weapon swapping [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Miss Lana.5276

Miss Lana.5276

If other professions get 4 weapons to choose from then eles and engies should get weapon swap too (2 weapon sets) to keep it balanced

But then there’s still things like engies having kits, necros having death shroud, etc. Some professions would still have more available skills than others.

Let’s look at it for a second. The first number is the amount of skills each profession has access to right now in one build. The number in parenthesis is the amount they would have with what you’ve suggested – including profession specific skills, bundles and transformations;

Ele – 48 (68)
Mes – 19 (29)
Necro – 26 (36)
Engy – 40 (45)
Ranger – 22 (32)
Thief – 17 (27)
Guard – 18 (28)
War – 35 (45)

The difference in versatility between being locked to 4 skillsets based on your weapons and choosing which 2 combinations to use is high.

Nope, it’s not. Simply giving each class another weapon set (or two) does not balance the amount of available skills out at all. This game isn’t about making all the classes have the same amount of available skills. That would be hella boring.

The way each class has it’s own flavour is great. I don’t want my necro to feel the same as my warrior or my thief. The distinct differences in each class are what make them unique. Trying to make it “fair” to all classes by giving them the same amount of skills to use on the fly would take away the feel of each individual class. If something like this was implemented it would probably start to feel like ESO.

Also note that each class has a different base health pool, with Ele having the lowest one available, which would possibly be why they have the highest amount of skills.

I think the thing people aren’t realising is that as it is it’s balanced (or as near enough as can be). Giving more skills out doesn’t mean it will balance anything at all.

Leave it as is. It’s fine. You want more variety in your skills? Play an Ele.

Weapon swapping [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Miss Lana.5276

eles have a spectrum of elemental skills which others don’t have.

Well of course. They’re Elementalists. That’s why they can use the elements.

allow weapon swap for ele and engis but when they swap weapons, only half of their F skills can be used for one weapon and the other half for the other weapon. so f1 – f2 would be for one weapon and f3 – f4 would be for the other weapon.

This would still be unfair. There’s a reason why Eles and Engies don’t weapon swap. It has to do with the flavour of the class. If you don’t like the flavour of the class you’re playing, then switch.

Again, if you want that range of skills, then play an Ele or Engy.

I think that’s too big of a change too far into the game.

I still stand by this. There would be no way we’d get this anytime soon, if at all (and I doubt we’d get it at all).

Yeah. I worked mad hard to get that elite armor in GW1 – and I was looking forward to it in GW2 when I saw the data mine. Then I realized it was just another costume. And then I saw how their patches screwed over my guildy, and how they still haven’t fixed it. Plenty of reason for people to be upset.

Me too, and my monk wasn’t my main character, so I had to go through so much of the campaign just for the armor. To see it – to put it bluntly – butchered like this is completely heartbreaking, especially after I took the time to match the dyes on my gw1 character perfectly (no, the default dyes don’t perfectly match the gw1 armor).

Solo Mode for Dungeons

Didn’t they just recently adjust the Arah personal story mission (victory or death?) to be soloable. Personally, I would love to see the same happen to all story dungeons, though I’d prefer some actual scaling depending on the amount of players.

Yeah they did adjust it to be soloable, with quite a few of us experiencing a glitch that completely halted progress. I had to start the mission 4 times on one character because it kept glitching.

I completely agree with the notion of making story paths scale to 1-5 players, with increased difficulty for more players. Arah story is a steamroll with 1 player. Having 3 players run through was just…stupidly easy.

removing craft from character

I don’t really like the idea of deleting all progress on a discipline, but a transfer I could definitely get behind.

I have all crafting maxed out on different characters, but it’s difficult remembering who did what sometimes. The most common ones I get mixed up are Armorsmithing on my War and Weaponsmithing on my Guard.

Gifts of Exploration going forward

I understand the frustration that some people get with world completion, but why should we be able to get the Gift of Exploration for anything other than exploring? If you’re having trouble there’s always the option of asking guildies and/or friends to help you out. Even just asking random people in /map or encountering them and buddying up.

I wouldn’t be completely adverse to being able to buy them as long as one has already completed world completion once, but they would have to be a price high enough that it’d make one think twice about buying it, or going out and actually mapping. I like the idea of the laurels. Say it’s made to be 150 laurels per GoE. We get 55 laurels (on one account) per month, so that’s about 3 months that one would have to save for it. I’m sure that’d make some people think twice about it.

Can a dude get a "Show your name" Option?

Personally I wouldn’t have a use for it, as I know all 40+ of my character’s names, and I’m not really interested in seeing them on the screen with the title I’m displaying.

With that being said I wouldn’t be opposed to having the option put in-game for those who do want it.

Completely forgot about these! I’ll have to submit a request to get it restored. Would be interesting with certain armor combos I have in mind!

What’s odd is that in sPvP lobby you also can’t open certain containers. The ones that you get from the PvP tracks are openable, but certain ones like the spirit shard bags for dailies and treasure bags that you obtain from chopping trees are unopenable there.

I also noticed once that I was completely unable to change wardrobe skins on a certain character. Not sure if that was a once-off bug or if that’s an unintentional player-wide bug.

sPvP lobby is convenient, but odd.

The way you suggest it would be no different to collecting heart vendor skins. With the wardrobe system the way it is all you’d have to do is purchase the skin once and that’s that.

Last I logged in I had 44 characters – 3 of them nameholders for revenants, one a keyfarmer – and I’ve had no issue coming up with names for any of them, and only one has a single accent in their name, and that was only because I felt the name needed it. People’s lack of imagination, inspiration and general creativity is their own fault, and I don’t see why people who are taking a break should be penalised for it.

Quite a number of these names that I have are tied back to gw1 which was my first MMO. Though I know I’ve only been in Tyria for about 6 years, I am certain that there are other people who have had attachments to their names for many, many years longer than I have.

Though as I see it, accounts that are permabanned should have their names released for free pickings. The owner of that account would (obviously) not be logging in, and there’s no real reason to keep those names off the market.

As someone who is currently taking a break from the game, I completely disagree with the notion of having my names taken from me purely because I chose not to log in. No matter what reason one has to not log in for any period of time, the community does not have any right to know why. We take a break because we can.

No excuse is needed as the name is theirs to use when they see fit.

Just because some entitled uncreative person wants my name, is absolutely NO reason that I should HAVE to log in to keep it. If I take a 2.5 year break and come back, that’s my business. I don’t need a “excuse” life happens, deal with it.

As for deceased players I think that stripping the names from their account could be seen as disrespectful. If that happened to one of my close friends – or to me – I would be very upset.

If arena.net did take away names, imagine what a blow it would be to people like the above quoted to randomly run in to some 13 year old punk using a departed friend or loved ones name to spew obscenities in to map chat. I’ve been in guilds that lost members in the past irl, and I can imagine how upset a guild member would be in that scenario, much less a real life friend or family member. So, no, flip blind through a book and stab words at random, use a random name generator, and get over yourself.

To the OP and to this xuse guy – I think you’re acting incredibly selfish and entitled. You have no entitlement to other people’s names, taking a break or not, or even dead or not. It’s first in first served and you weren’t first. I suggest taking a step back and thinking about how you would react if you took a break to come back to stripped names purely because someone wanted what you had. Releasing permabanned account’s names I can get behind, but there is no reason to take someone’s name if they haven’t been banned.

tl;dr
Stop acting like selfish and entitled children. Devs have said this will not happen.

Yeah, dont like that place , however. Ugly and boring.

The functionality is there. If you don’t like the aesthetics then that sounds like a personal problem.

I seriously doubt that after completely redoing LA that they’re going to make any changes to it this side of HoT.
