It’s not the runes problem when you can’t stay at 100% health most of the time.
And I never said, that warriors deal more damage. I said ele.
Thor.
Skill 1: 9k; 9k; 12k – no cd
FGS.
Skill 3: 25-40k. – 5 sec cd
Skill 4: 100-120k (no joke) – 10 sec cd
Skill 1: 3.5-4k – no cd
Sure?
And for the runes: How do you justify the loss of 10% damage for one divinity rune?
(edited by Molch.2078)
Hi, wolffield, you are playing the thief competly wrong for damage output, becuse thief are actually the proffesion which most (SINGLETARGET) damage in the game, don’t even think that hb warrriors do more damage, d/d thief full dps (5 scholar + 1 dinvity + traited right and fully geared with ascended outdps anything if played correctly. But a rule of thumb you will die 1/5 as fast as you kill if you stand there and let they test. Il rate the damage of diffrent proffesions (only shure about some tough btw direct damage)
1. Thief dual dagger.
2. Warrior greatsword.
3. Rifle/grenade engineer??
4. Elementalist.
5 Guardian GS / Scepter + Mesmer shatter (around same dps)
7. necromancer (axe mainhhand)
8. ranger at the end Greatsword
One word: Buffs. With buffs, Ele is at least on par with thief. If you can push your enemy against a wall, Ele outdps everything by pressing one button every 10 sec.
And without buffs, warriors win. No argument here. The only reason an other class can compete with warrior dps is, bc a warrior buffs them.
And yes, this runesetup is terribad.
I am not sure what you want me to try. You can calculate, that rubyorbs provide more damage. And every field study would go even more in favour of orbs. You can’t remove them and they have no 25 limit.
Btw, I don’t want to say that this build is bad or anything. But I think it’s improvable.
I think you should buff other classes instead of nerfing the warrior. 3-4 Warrior + 1-2 XY is quite fun to run.
Epower: 7121 (24 Might)
Your build, but Rubyorbs + Bowl of Curry Butternut Squash Soup
Epower: 7446 (15 might – thats 24 might without 60% boonduration and the buff food)
And every boonstrip on the enemy team, every buffing warrior/guard on your team is another reason to use Ruby Orbs + Squash Soup.
Tl; dr: You sacrifice too much to get those mightstacks.
I doubt you can maintain 15 stacks of might or get that much without the food and the runes tho, when i played 0 / 30 / 30 / 10 / 0 i averaged at 6-8
This might not be the end of all builds but it is sure fun as hell, and 25 might stacks feel kitten. Maintaining them thru out combat even more :P
If you maintain 24 might with food, 15% from Acrobatics and 60% runes, you can maintain 24 × 1.15 / 1.75 = 15.7 might without runes (but with food)
Simple math.
So, if you remove the food, how much would you lose? 1? 2? Im sure with 14 stacks, the number wont change that much.
I might have just gotten home and been drinking, but Im pretty sure that site cnt account for stacks or duration increases or how much you gain and stuff. Making the EP stat it lists useless. Which is why earlier int eh day before I was drinking I posted a lot of maths I had to do to show whether or not it increased damage and by how much compared to other stuff.
Sorry? Not sure what you want to say. You can calculate your Epower with might on this site.
Shamless self-quote:
@zoran and thor-ele:
In 60 sec, you have 50 hits. With your nubers, every hit deals 10k on average.
50 × 10 / 60 = 8.33k DPS – ooops, warrior is already better.
But wait, there is more. 9 – 12k are crits. But you have just 33% critchanche. + 20% fury. + 5% discipline.
and you go down to ~6k DPS. Cute. With 25 Might and vuln, a warrior outdps you with axe autohits. I’m not very impressed.
Thor is not a bad build. It is – imho – the strongest PvE ele build. But it is not nearly as strong as you claim.

You need a space between “+” and a number.
Isn’t this thread supposed to be about dungeons? There is no need to speak about PvP.
And in PvE, melee is king. The end.
If you play GS/Sword+Warhorn – full zerker ofc -, ranger is okay. Not imba, but no reason to kick. But 99% of the ranges I see use SB/LB. And thats just bad in dungeons. I prefer 4 man melee instead of 4 man melee + 1 range.
I agree. I don’t like the animation. They move to fast.
Finally, some common sense. I love you. +1
Now replace “CoF p1” with “every single Dungeon in the game”
I’m sure there are going to be a few quests where you can earn some of those candies.
Been having kitteny luck with PUGs this past week. I’ll start with my main class, warrior. This is probably the most safest you can get with Lupi.
Trait: Fast Arm
Utility: Endure pain, Balanced stance, Stamina signet and Warbanner
Weapon: Mace/Shield with energy sigil and RifleAfter Lupi transitions to phase 2 and starts his AOE, pop Endure Pain while you finish up the last grub. Then prepare his next soon AOE again with Shield #5. Now you have four dodges at your disposal from energy sigil and stamina signet which is more than enough. For the AOE again, alternate between 1 dodge and Mace #2 – Shield #5 – Endure Pain – 2 dodge. You won’t ever get downed =).
3rd phase, you use Lupi against himself. When you melee right under him, he’ll ignore you but sometimes you can get caught in his melee dome. Once you used up either two of Shield #5, Endure Pain, Balanced Stance you go range and recharge…
Goodluck!
Or you use GS + axe/shield and deal 3x the damage, while having the same survivability.
HS + smokescreen is half the time (boss over 50% hp) a huge dps loss.
Steal is luckbased and the rest has high cd.
The major adept traits in shadowarts are huge. CD reduction on my best utility? Anyday. And even with this build, you want to D/D almost every single boss in the game. Can’t do that without + 2 Ini on stealth.
Not many players know, that you can use more than 2 weaponsets. + 1 for that. All in all, this is a very good guide. I will recomend this.
I run 0/30/15/25/0 – I love to pug, and you need as much stealth as you can get if you want to skip with pugs
Okay, lets see. critique: sorta check; comment: check – is something missing? … ah!
ommg thiefs are bad tehy die allthe time you should rerooll warriorz they deal 50000k 100b and are muhc much beter.
…yes, this should do it.
(edited by Molch.2078)
I think the basic criticism can be summarized as:
You lose too much utility for to little damage.
A “full support” mesmer is still a berserker and traited sth. like 20/20/x/y/z – compared to your build, he does maybe 20% less damage.
Edit: 100% more damage, if he can reflect something
(edited by Molch.2078)
instant debuffs a player with worm debuff (unavoidable?, unblockable?)
He will target the player closest to his position. Unlike the other worms, this can target summons/pets.That closest to his position is wrong. It’s pretty random. He will usually focus his grubs on 2-3 people tops. Or that might be because he’s usually at phase 2 by the time he cast 3 grubs…
Works for me every time. Maybe you got me wrong, I was talking about the last worm, when he enters phase 2.
You reach 50k + on risen berserkers. They take extra damage. Im not full ascendant, but my highest hit on a normal mob was ~42k

casts a melee bubble that deals heavy damage, impossible to walk out of it without stability. Cast is unavoidable, but damage is.
He uses this skill on downed or moving player only. If you don’t move, he won’t use it at all.
the right amount of CD reduction? Phantasmal Haste makes your phantasms attack more often, it does not reduce the cooldown of the skills, that summons them.
But anyway, I will change the “must have” in my initial post. I still think it’s good, but you’ve a point.
[…]don’t want to slow my friends down by dying all the time.
And you link him the most difficult and squishiest thief-build in the game, made by someone who plays thief as his main. Troll much
However, I think 30 points into critical strikes is a must have. For ranged combat, try 25 acrobatics and P/P + SB. Not your higest range dps-build, but you have some HP.
For a more melee-focused build, use equipment with power/vitality/critical damage instead of full zerker and the trait “100% critchanche while invisible” – use D/D, traits 0/30/25/15/0.
Afaik, someone wrote an excelsheet, that calculated Dempsey.8760’s rotation/build as the max-dps-build.
You can’t argue with math
But I like eviscerate. Therefore I use 20 30 00 20. The extra dodge, that burstskills grant, are cool in non cof dungeons and I don’t want to retrait every time.
(edited by Molch.2078)
You already said in your video, that most of the damage comes from your illusions. But you’re skipping Phantasmal Haste (Illusion X). For a phantasm build, this is must have. 7% more damage for iZerker. 22% for iDuelist. If you want damage, try this: PvE Phantasm-Build
10 left points for either inspiration (utility) or domination (if you want to use gs)Phantasmal Haste is a joke ability. The mob is dead too fast or they get killed too fast especially since I doubt this build would be taking much toughness to make them more survivable. Take 15 points out of illusion and put 25 into inspieration for the three best minor traits mesmers have all of which boost phantasms including a 15% damage bonus and constant regen. This also gives you access to glamour recast down and focus reflect if you want.
I already said that focus reflect is a good trait, if you need it you obviously go for it.
I am not sure if you want to say, that the enemy or the phantasm lives not long enought to make phantasmal haste a viable trait. But if the enemys are so fragile, I would prefer a shatter build and if your environment is so hostile for your phantasms, that they die fast, I would prefer a shatter build, too, since 150 vitality won’t make a difference.
Is this build for PvE?
You focusing the mesmer at something he is not good at. This build is as good as a necromancer, who wants to buff fury to his group and therefore stacks fury duration. It’s simple: He cannot.
Mesmers direct damage is pityfull. GS1 damage is a joke. 2-3k damage? Thats nice … but on a 1.5 second activation time. Warrior hits harder with his riffle, and warrior with a riffle is … not good.

The reason you want a mesmer is, as already said, utility. Utility, utility and more utility. Feedback. Nullfield. Reflection on focus. You throw away everything good – and for what? 3 × 4% damage? To improve your already poor damage? Not a good trade.
Sorry, but I have to agree. This build is really really bad. But i hope you still want me for your necro CoF run
(edited by Molch.2078)
I should clarify. For being serious about dungeons straight damage is the only way to go.
Well said.
At topic: If you like the style, roll necromancer. If not, don’t. Easy.
(edited by Molch.2078)
Ranged damage, not ranged combat. An elementalist with staff or scepter/x has utility.
Damage? Not so much.
I don’t know which profession has the best ranged dps, but im sure, warrior has the best ranged burst. ~20k killshot. Just trait and gear everything for damage.
Which content? In PvE, warrior has:
- more DPS
Dunno about PvP/PvDoor…
I fixed that for you. Guardian has 10x the sustainability, and access to most boons in the game.
If you play a self-centered, egoistic sentinels/pvt-guardian, or knights with AH, well, yes. Then guardian has more sustain. But if you want to be usefull for your team, you go sth like 10/25/0/25/10 and full berserker.
Guardian sustain: 100% vigor uptime, one aegis every 40 seconds. +1 dodge every 20 seconds (sigill of energy), uberstronk f2 heal
Warrior sustain: + 2 dodges every 10 Seconds(burts and sigill of energy), GS3, Shield5 or vigor from warhorn.
They are at least on par, if you have no sustain as a warrior in PvE, you’re doing it wrong. Terribly wrong.
And buffs: Warror: + 40% damage for the team? Anyone? No? okay then…
Guardian has more utility with WoR, aoe stabi/aegis on demand and so on. Those are reasons you take a guardian.

I’ve always been a huge fan of life stealing builds in GW1, so I’d like to see a build for GW2 that has a high survivability. I wonder, if you do have to really get in close, to get as many hits in as you can… should you be speccing in crits (for more healing), or in toughness (so you take less damage as well)?
Run knights and cavalier. They both rock precision AND toughness.
knights third stat is power, cavalier being crit damage.
cavalier is toughness>power=crit damage
And for PvE, always go full zerker. Especially in high lvl fotm.
You want to spend 15 points into discipline, so you can use a better GS-Axe-Rotation
gs2-gs3-switch-axe2-axeF1-axe1-switch-gs2-…
How often can I like one post?
+1
Thief 80
Ranger 80
Ele 80
Warrior 80
Guardian 80
Mesmer 80
Necro 80
Your critical Damage multiplier is:
1 + crit chanche x crit damage
45% crit chance and 66% crit damage:
1 + 0.45 × 0.66 = 1.297 (~30% more damage)
50% crit chance and 50%
1 + 0.5 × 0.5 = 1.25 (25% more damage)
In other words, just multiply those stats. The bigger, the better
Try to get realy good at pve. Like, solo Arah p2 good. It is not that hard.
A minionmaster is able to kill the training dummys in LA by himself. Not as fast as an elementalist, but at least he can. Mesmer cannot. Warrior cannot. Minions dps is nice…
…but as others have said, they die. Realy fast.
Or go 25/30/0/15/0 and deal even more P/P damage, because 50 power and + 10% damage > 2 Initiative every 10 sec
Mesmer –This is a squishy class with a whole lot of power, especially with a great sword spec.
Thief is also desired because of their burst damage output, and survivability within dungeons.
In all modes of game play (PVE, WvW, and sPVP) Warriors reign supreme.
rangers rely on heavy damage output from their pets
The Guardian is like a typical Tank
Necromancer […] having the best AOE damage output in game.
Then I stopped reading. What. The. F.
With 15 points in discipline you have a trait that reduces your weaponswitch cooldown by 5 seconds. Use both axe and greatsword.
Axe offhand is not very good. Skill 5 deals lower damage then your autohit and fury from skill 4 is not necessary with signet of rage and for greater justice.
And yes, two axes would grant you 2x the stats.
P/D deals kitten dmg and every player who can’t contribute decent dps to a party is underperforming. Damage is king in PvE, support is second place. This is not an elitist/narrow minded statement but the (sad?) fact about pve balancing.
Btw, this thread is about range, and P/D is a melee weaponset. If you range P/D, your damage goes from low to zero.
Back to Topic: For a pure range build, thief has only one viable option. P/P + SB. Use SB 1 + 2 against multiple mobs, P/P 1 + 3 against single targets. Equipment as much berserker as you can handle, traits sth. like 25/30/0/15/0. I like the extra dodge from Acrobatics 15. Some players don’t. Your choice.
(edited by Molch.2078)
Oh no, not this again…
If you compare one Warrior with one Thief, Warrior will out-DPS the Thief. But when you are part of a group where everyone gets 25 might, and fury, the Thief wins against one target. His “burst” has 4 sec cooldown.
@TsukiNoEi: Nice picture. What has that got to do with the subject?
(edited by Molch.2078)
I think I should phrase this carefully.
Wat teh eff….?
Killing the Crusher first is stupid.
When the Hunter was dead once, he will completely stop using the poison field and rarely imobilizes. Additionally, he dies when the Crusher dies.-> Additional time effort: 0 seconds.
Easier and faster, no longer luring the Crusher out of the field.
This
And is arguably the best damage support profession.
How?
hm… your team was a bunch of idiots?
Or
Every time I hear this it amuses me. Just going to let you know that thief is pretty kitten good in PvE. The reason why people think they are bad is b/c they saw bad players playing thief and spread the word. Now the whole world thinks thief is bad.
Probably both.
