CDI- Process Evolution 2

1)I like this a lot- we can start with a broad topic like Horizontal Development was and as soon as it becomes more focused split it into separate CDI threads.

How will a poster know when a topic they want to participate in is coming up? They wont unless they participate in a 30+ page topic conglomeration.

The issues with thread length mostly have to do with organization and you’re proposing making the CDI process more unorganized.

(btw, sorry if that comes across very pointed. I’m not trying to poke at you)

Suggestion: Why not have a CDI topic poll every 4 months and tally up which topics get the most requested. Do them in order from most requested to least requested and at the end of 4 months have another poll for more subjects. If topics ever eventually dry up than you can reduce the frequency of CDI’s.

You are quoting something I said not Chris- I think the quotes got mixed up

My intention was not to make the threads more disorganized and I totally agree that the problem currently is thread length.

What we did see in several topics though is that they made very clear branches- what I propose is that those separate branches get discussed separately- one at a time.

Not as a bunch of threads running at the same time

This way we have a focused discussion one one thing at a time.
hope that clarifies

1) There shouldn’t be a limit, but instead an earlier splitting off of “Hot Topics”.
When you see, that out of the CDI is crystallizing itself a new discussion specificly around 1 made idea/proposal and that discussion raises in its size very quickly to the point, that it draws all the attention out of the original thread’s topic, then open up a new official CDI thread for this Hot Topic.

Example: The Horizontal Progression Thread had basically 2 very big Hot Topics.
Housing and Sub Classes. 8howeve,r the last one already will get later its own topic, so much is already sure)

The original thread would have been much clearer and smaller, if the Devs would have reacted earlier on this way, how the discussion is flowing.
Would they have made for Housing and Sub Classes their own CDI Threads, two very large parts of the discussion would have been shifted over into their own places where people could have discussed further specificly only about these topics.

This would have made the whole discussion for everybody easier to read, without having tons of completely different suggestions and discussions over X other things being mixed together followed later by tons of summary postings so larger the thread became…

2) ANet should choose absolutely. They know best, what of our ideas are even feasible and which not. You can’t say, that we get ignored, if they choose out a topic from a gargantuan list of topics, that we have discussed together

And even if they would choose as next CDI the topic about Mounts, then you would have to accept that! Completely regardless of what you personally think about that topic, if you like it or not. Especially if a topic like this would come out of a Player Voting, this would show even more that behind this topic stat alot of people, which like this feature, when a feature like Mounts would win a Voting (not to mention the constant creation of threads about them would be already more than enough to show anet, that there are already alot of people, who do like them)

1)I like this a lot- we can start with a broad topic like Horizontal Development was and as soon as it becomes more focused split it into separate CDI threads.

They can even be sticked at the top of the main thread

A TL;DR would also be helpful- more so than limiting the word count

2) I like Vol’s idea here were we alternate between player chosen concerns and things the Anet team would like to discuss
Alternatively Anet should just decide what they would like player input on

Regarding:

1)I like this a lot- we can start with a broad topic like Horizontal Development was and as soon as it becomes more focused split it into separate CDI threads.

Would the expectation be that the split topics are parked and then tackled in order or that they are running together. Because if it is the latter then I can say without question that I personally wouldn’t have time to engage appropriately on more than one thread at a time.

Chris

I would be fine with them being handled in order , one after the other.
it does not seem reasonable to expect you to spend all your time reading the forums.

Actually that might make it easier to digest and participate in for everyone concerned

Tengu is most likely
I won’t be playing a Tengu myself- but I am dying to get behind their wall

My personal choice is Largos- I am extremely curious about their culture.
I would love an underwater city.

I don’t think their fins/wings would be any more of a problem than the winged backpieces we already have and soooo many people are wearing those.

As for it being weird having Largos running around on land- same can be said for non aquatic races swimming around under water.
We do see them on land now
I never got the impression that they were purely aquatic anyway, more amphibian – despite them being from the deep ocean

oh just give me Largos :p

Don’t have a third choice.

It is also a lot more intuitive for someone who is not used to WASD in the first place

Added bonus is that she won’t have to unlearn being a keyboard turner.

Let her play any class she wants- it is more important that she has fun- you can go along for the ride if she gets into sticky spots- and she will in the beginning

Largos as a playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shame they are only one dimensional hunters for sake of hunting challenging opponants… and nothing else. That is not intriguing, its shallow and sufficient for their role as event antagonists or ally vs badder boss (like zhaitan minion). Their very narrow lore and narrow fields of interest make them poor as a potential player race. There are far more races that have greater lore and greater potential to intergrate as a player race with same goals as established playable races.

that is simply not true- only one faction of the Great Houses focuses on track, kill and bring proof.
Those happen to be the only Faction we meet as NPC’s.

Nothing suggests that it is the focus of the entire race

Better idea, give ANet a chance to apologize for an obvious PTW item slipping into the gem store so they can remove it and move on.

If not, then I don’t see it ending well, as the original idea was to give players the convenience of not having to buy gathering tools perpetually. Nowhere in the game is there a pick that can harvest sprockets, hence this in not convenient, it is however giving an advantage.

this.
It is not about the sprockets- it is about the fact that it provides anything at all beyond convenience and extra character customization.

CDI- Process Evolution Phase 2- Update

Morrigan.2809

mmm I think I can see at least some ways that the Living Story CDI has impacted this release.

the main complaints- except for Scarlet- has been that the LS releases are somewhat repetitive, zerg and farmfestst with no story and just basically an AP/gold farm.

So what did we get this release?

A real effort to break up the zerg and to introduce interesting mechanics (Marionette)
No direct farm because of the delayed loot system.

The delayed loot also serves as a mechanic to lead the player to Scarlet’s Lair- which is full of really interesting things,.
It gives a lot of fuel for player speculation and is awesome.

We also got a rather interesting story scene in LA – that gives a lot of insight into the NPC’s

All in all it is a great start I think- and it is what people asked for in the CDI

The commanders/ overflows and mapchat should really have been a heads up

While I agree with you, I personally often ignore map chat when I’m solo-ing areas.

I am convinced these people are doing it on purpose, it is not like anyone ever leveled in Longass Pass before this event- that zone has mostly been empty for more than a year, only people who go there are Priory and they go to the Priory and leave

They do not hang around because the map is not fun, too big and a pain to navigate with nothing going on.
I see more people in Fireheart Rise than Lornar’s Pass.

Not true. Lornar’s Pass is a fairly easy and linear map to gather in. You go up/down one side of the valley and return the other direction on the other side. It’s one of my personal favourite areas to gather a mixture of soft/seasoned wood and iron, silver and gold ore. And if there are more people like me, there goes your claim.

There’s also a CoF in Fireheart Rise, so your counter example is flawed.

That said, I agree with the general sentiment that players should know by now that the area is a deathtrap for these two weeks. “Play as you want” should therefore have at least the repair bill penalty if you were there and were being a little selfish/self-absorbed.

hehe I never knew that- the gathering that is- next to Brisban Wildlands, Lornar’s Pass has to be my least favorite map in the game.
I never go there if I can help it.
I do love Fireheart Rise though and since I do not do dungeons I completely forgot COF was there

Sorry if I came over a bit harsh- I just did a couple of events who failed because we were not enough people and then got told afterwards that there were people running around on the map “leveling”

We only know this because of the “I was killed and I wasn’t there” and the" I can play were I want/ why should I help you", “I don’t do LS” comments.

Ironically the people who were the most angry were the on level players who were in the map and came over to check it out and to help

Largos as a playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morrigan.2809

Morrigan.2809

Better not. The Largos that appear in game are great and very mysterious – and that is their whole point. Turning them into a player race will totally “uncoolify” them into one of the guys.

Sylvari are very mysterious and totally awesome- having them as a playable race only made them cooler and gives them depth.

I don’t think the Largos- cool factor would diminish- if anything knowing how they actually operate would make them less cliche " killler/vampire/fairy /drow/assasin"

The Largos that appear are only one faction among the houses- those that belong to the Tethyos Compact- so they follow the same principles.
That strongly implies that there is more to their society than just “track it; kill it; and bring proof.”

It is very much worth to log in because the marionette fight itself is very fun and once you have done it once ( you do not have to succeed)
you get a pretty cool story instance in LA that gives a lot of back story for the LS characters.
you can also search and unlock Scarlet’s secret Liar and that in itself is a fascinating place.

once you have done the fight once the LS pointer on the right of your screen will update- it works much like the personal stories and dailies now and is much more useful

there are many other maps to level in- it is not like you are forced to level there right now, during this LS

I am convinced these people are doing it on purpose, it is not like anyone ever leveled in Longass Pass before this event- that zone has mostly been empty for more than a year, only people who go there are Priory and they go to the Priory and leave

Sorry… I will always prefer any one of the other 7 professions over ranger when doing anything as a group. Usually the people defending pve ranger have yet to play the other classes up to 80, or are generally terrible at the game and are using terrible builds on all their characters.

There is nothing a ranger can do that another class cannot do better.

I have 2 Mesmers, a Ranger, a Necro and an Engi at 80.
I have done Mari on all but my Engi
I much prefer my Ranger for platform fights and my wells Necro for lane defense.
Mesmer is the most balanced- so I take her most of the time

I did Gauntlet on my Ranger.
I have done Teq on both my Ranger and Mesmer

I would like to disagree with you.

I can still do things on my Ranger that I cannot do on any of the others- just as on each of those I can do some things the others can’t do.

Each class has it’s own strengths and weaknesses- It is up to the player to use the class effectively.

this
I have called people on being abusive in chat- not just this event.
I have never called someone out for failing, being new or not knowing an encounter.

We just had an amazing Marionette- not because we succeed – we failed on the last 2 chains.
It was amazing because we were grossly undermanned and we had mostly under leveled people and people who have never done the event before.

What made it amazing was that one player asked 10 minutes before hand if anyone was new- and when it turned out that almost everyone was- explained everything very clearly.

Those of us who had done the Marionette before pooled all their knowledge for the new ones and kept up the encouragement and tips throughout the whole fight.

Reminding before each champ the particular strategy- reinforcing lanes etc.

Morale was amazing and it was awesome to see new and under leveled people sever their chains and go whoop- the advice was really helpful.

It was one of the nicest Marionette fights I have been at- in the end they all could not wait to go again.

So yeah
don’t be mean to others.

It would probably help if there was some way (in-game) to figure out what the hell we’re supposed to do in each lane. New players would therefore be fully equipped with the information they need to succeed before trying it.

sure that would be great.
however Anet did state somewhere that they want players to self educate or some such- so that means that someone has to figure out the mechanics through trial and error and spread the word.

This has happened mostly and by this point all a brand new player to the fight has to do is show up before hand and read map chat- all will be explained.

I have never been at a Marionette where the mechanics are not explained- last couple of times on overflow I did it myself because we had one mute commander- that was either afk or meditating on the Eternal alchemy

Morrigan.2809

Most players don’t understand that others will perform better when you treat them with respect and patience and don’t lose your skritt as soon as something fails.

Just stay happy and explain how it works in clear terms, and the next fight will be better.

hooray this!
the fails I have been on have solely been because
1 some kitten was unhappy in overflow and riled everyone up before the fight
2 when lane 2 failed same kitten said omfg blah blah blah lets just farm champs
3 bar fills up because lane defense fails.
4 some bright spark starts sprouting insults at other people
5 people fail to defend right at the portal but camp the bottom of the lane to get drops

Every time so far when people take time to explain, are courteous and encouraging and don’t start raging at every fail but keep the morale up and refocus the group- either to defense, keep siege, re-enforce lanes, reminder of champ mechanics or just a few words like- good attempt better luck next time- gogo gogo.

This is a fight designed in open-world in a mid level zone- to exclude players because they are not 80 is ridiculous.
They have as much right to be there as you do

All that is needed to win is a bit of organisation before hand to explain, to read map chat and to follow the objectives.

I find this irresponsible and I will NOT be allowing my children to play this game until its fixed.

In a game with Norn, Asura, Sylvari and Charr as well as Humans- your statement makes no sense.

I play mostly Sylvari’s and I have a connection with my characters even though I am clearly not a plant in real life.
I am also a bit confused because even though I have 4 Sylvari’s none of the have six packs- I didn’t even realize there is such a body type for Sylvari

What exactly do you mean by real people? Are some people more real than others?

Lack of Sylvari Armor

I dislike human armors on Sylvari so much that I dress mine in cultural armor as soon as they come out of the tutorial- yes I burn through trans stones since I have 4 Sylvari :P.

I understand that they need to make armor sets that appeal to everyone but why not a more planty one like the TA one that can be worn by everyone?
like the Aether/Magitech/Braham sets etc

That way at least we can have something that is more natural for Sylvari

Failing that just release versions of the npc clothes for all races that people have been asking for in any case and make it wearable in combat. It is already in the game

So let me get this straight.

I cant speak for the Wurm encounter but Ive had no problem getting involved with the Marronette and with decent numbers (second time was on an overflow). Obviously neither time was a successful kill but most there were learning how the fight went and we still did pretty well over all.

The fights aren’t all there are. Just doing the Marronette allows you to proceed with the story part of the LS weither you fail or not. The instance in LA was well done and developed the characters there nicely. The rest is a scavenger hunt Im still working on that unlocks details on Scarlets story.

Over all personally Ive been pretty satisfied and I haven’t even done the Wurm.

this
I have had fun with the patch so far-
I had a great time on the kill bot fight even in overflow and the vibe was great,

So far I am hunting the story- which I find very intriguing this patch

I am finding this patch interesting- I like that it contains a lot of story and I am very interested to see what happens next.

The space bot fight was fun too- even with a fail in overflow.

haven’t done the wurm yet because of a bugged escort quest in my overflow last night

My only complaint is that the 2 bosses run on timers and not pre-events

I am confused, I play 7 different characters and I have never had to change my set up-
I do have my F keys bound to my mouse but I only really use that for my ele.

I play Ele, Mesmer, Necromancer and Engineer they ALL have different keybindings. Ele and Engineer are the worst as you need to use all F special skills. Mesmer i use 2 at most and even that is rare as i dont play Shatter and Necromancer is 1 button.

Having to change them to the way i like them which is different for all of the characters i play each time i log into that character is VERY annoying. It is the most simple of things and i just don’t understand why they didn’t even implement it in this game.

I use a Naga 2012 mouse so i rarely need to touch the numbers/F buttons on my keyboard as i have it set up just how i like but having to redo that EVERY time i log into a different character is SO annoying.

I play a mesmer, necro, ele, engi, ranger, guardian.
I have a g600 mouse and it allows profiles.
That said I only ever use one profile that I made for my ele
I really can’t say that this is something that has ever bothered me at all

+1 for more Sylvari armors

there are amazing looking NPC’s in the game- just giving us access to what they are wearing would be awesome.

I always dress my Sylvari’s in sylvari armor but the options are extremely limited and a Sylvari in human clothes just look sad to me
