Forums for months :
“we hate RNG”
“remove RNG”
“ANET, wtf are you thinking with all the RNG?”

On anniversary:
“ANET, wtf GW1 had RNG presents, why wasnt this one RNG?”
“Birthday present was fail because it wasn’t RNG”
“my god, I gave you $50 a year ago and expect a well thought out present that is tailored not only to me, but also to the hundreds of others who will also complain about not being rewarded in a fashion thats emotionally validating for spending $50 a year ago”

Its a wonder the turnaround of employees at MMO developers isnt much much higher.

Clarification on ascended weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MrRuin.9740

So for you changing stats on a weapon is the same as having a free dodge on swap (energy) or stacking 250 extra power/prec/cond/heal (bloodlust/perception/corruption/life) or triggering might/fire burst/lighting strike/condition removal on crit (strength/fire/air/generosity) or getting 1k hp back for enemy killed (restoration)?
In exchange for +5 power and little bump on stats?

Reread my post. It’s a bad idea.

(and those are just first examples that cross my mind)

You could still have those if you stayed with exotic gear. This would mix things up. You have the choice to have the higher ascended stats, or stay exotic and have the benefits of on-proc sigils. It would be your choice. Maxed stats and raw power or procs and sigil benefits?
The problem I see with that is with the current Legendary owners in not being given the choice.

When did players became so selfish? me me me me me…and some more ME

Are you kidding? have you not seen the birthday ‘present’ threads?

Anyways, GW2 is the first MASSIVE multiplayer game in a long long time, and i hope they keep it that way instead of dungeon play. Yes, massive=zerg.

I enjoy invasions and www a lot. Hadnt have that kinda of game in 10 years. Good job ANet, you brought massive to MMOs again.

I dont think anyone can argue that. These events do bring massive amounts of people together. That’s not the problem. The problem is these massive amounts of people don’t interact. They dont socialize, theres no reason for them to coordinate, no reason to help each other out, no strategy, no reason to learn anything at all.
If there ware different mechanics involved, it would likely be a different story, where the masses had to coordinate and use strategy, bring people together to work for a common goal.
Zerging has none of this. Zerging promotes anti-social behavior, where the goal is just make sure you press 1 quick enough to get auto-attacking on the mob to get credit before it dies.
I don’t think anyone argues it brings the massive back to MMO……but it does so in a way thats contradictory to the social and teamwork aspect of an MMORPG.

For the amount of flak they’ve been getting over RNG items I can see why they’d avoid RNG in this instance.

It’s lose/lose for a developer to try to please the masses. They cry for months about RNg and to take it out of the game………then cry when they don’t get RNG presents and say how RNG would have been better. Is it any wonder games end up a mess? :P

In real life, I don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a person / somebody to entertain me like I expect GW2 to do. You use a bad analogy there that doesn’t apply.

I havent spent a dime on GW2 since I bought it. That being said, I think their cashshop is fine compared to many MMO’s and offers some good luxury items, even though the RNG aspect is debatable.
So…..if you spent hundred of dollars on it, you want a better present? What if I got that same better present having spent nothing?
Point is, we’d all get the same thing anyway, regardless of money spent, or you want to be rewarded better for spending more on it? Nowhere does it say you will receive any better treatment or ‘gifts’ due to spending more.
So, if you took your friend out to dinner often, picked up the tab for things over the year and/or treated them to things out of your own pocket….you would expect them to give you more than a card and would throw it back in their face and remind them of everything you spent on them over the last year? Do you rate all gifts from people based on what you’ve spent or ‘invested’ in them between birthdays?

How do I get back into the game?

Well it was more the achievements and limited time items and such I was upset to miss out on, in other games I’m a bit of a completionist. So are fractals the main chunk of gameplay right now?

No. The main chunk of gameplay is mindless zerging champion mobs for the new champion loot boxes. Think Cof path1 on the main map with dozens of people.

Other dungeons are a bit more viable to run now for the champions in them. Otherwise, fractals and other content remains pretty well the same, aside from the achievements you missed in the living story.

It’s not contradictory. You may disagree with my view but it’s not a contradiction. What I am saying is that they had something that worked in GW1 and they did something different here that gets a lot of negativity. Doesn’t sound like a smart move. If it ain’t broke why fix it? That’s all I’m saying. And let’s be honest, Anet is starting to bring out gear based in GW1 gear (Zodiac anyone). So it’s not so strange to think they might have done this in a similar way.

It is when you want it one way and others don’t and then say those people are wrong for wanting their way and not yours.

I know it’s now GW1, but it’s the same company making one mistake after another, while they did it better in their previous game. Seems silly to upset people by doing something that clearly isn’t as cool as what they did in GW1. They couldve done something entirely different than this for all I care. But they gave a mini, like in GW1 but didn’t make them collectible. Why bring something in they clearly did in GW1 but make a lesser version of it? That just boggles the mind.

Because its not GW1? Because it’s likely different people involved? Because no matter what they did people would moan and go on about it?

Perception is reality. People invest in a lot of things that aren’t real in a physical sense. However, what you fail to see, is that the emotions people have and the connections to game characters, or books or movies or anything like that are real.

If people spend 30+ hours a week on something, surely you should be able to grasp the inevitable attachment people can have to what they do. The game isn’t real but their playing it and being involved in it is real emotion.

If you don’t feel that at all, that’s fine. But to basically ridicule it because you don’t look at it the same way is rather, well, ignorant really.

Whats ignorant is expecting tailored free gifts from a faceless company that doesnt even know who you are, or even one thats going to even please the majority of the population. Had they done the same thing as GW1, altaholics would be claimed to be having an unfair ‘advantage’ due to receiving so many more RNG minis. I would bet anything the forums would be full of people raging about this. How they got slapped in the face for having fewer characters. It’s lose/lose for Anet any way they go when all it is, is a gesture.
Its ignorant to claim the gimmick gesture they do make is a ‘slap in the face’ or ‘crap’ or ‘garbage’ and go on about it like people are. If someone gave you a birthday card you didnt like, do you throw back in their face, call them names and demand something better? No, you graciously accept they did anything at all. And thats real life. A virtual life is not even close to being as serious as that.
Do you write any other software developer and demand a gift because you’ve been playing their games? Should I write Nintendo and demand a present on the Anniversary I bought their SNES? Should I write any other software developer that has online service other than MMO and demand a ‘present’ for the time invested playing and honing skills? No….because MMO’s have a unique sense of self-entitlement in their playerbases.

oney they should come out with an expansion. Its not like Anet is a huge corporation that has thousands of employees.

Then if you paid $6 and played game for a month, you got your monies worth. A year and you have gotten your monies many times over. You paid for one game. You should have no expectations for anything else.
Micro-transactions are the constant flow of income that fund fixes, work, changes, these mini-expansions called the Living Story. Without that source of income and expecting the game to forever free after the initial transaction also leads to the point if you (or anyone in the playerbase0 pays nothing else ever again, then you should expect nothing ever again.

First of all, you don’t get to decide for other people what’s fun to them. A lot of GW1 players had fun collecting and trading mini’s. It worked just fine. It’s beyond me why they didn’t use the same good idea and had to do something else that isn’t as good.

Secondly, Anet started this tradition themselves in the first GW1. I am pretty sure there would be an even bigger kittenstorm if they hadn’t done anyhting as you suggest.

Lastly, people do care about their characters especially when they spend a lot of time on them. If you don’t get that, that’s ok, but just realise characters do mean something to a lot of people as we can see. Ignoring that doesn’t make your comment any less ridiculous.

Your ‘first of all’ is contradictory. You enjoyed GW1 and want this game to be like GW1. This is what you want and want others to want what you do. Its your opinon it isnt as good. Its your opinion that they should have done the same thing. So that means everyone should want that?
Secondly, doing something in one game doesnt mean its a tradition. It doesnt mean anything except its a mechanic of that one game. Especially when its been pointed out incessantly on these forums for the last year that GW2 is NOT GW1. They have done little to carry over things from GW1 or make GW2 seem like GW1 for the people who have wanted that. Why would anyone ever expect this to be different?
Lastly, yes I do understand putting a lot of time into a character and caring about the time put into it. Still doesnt make it real. People seem to be putting the same kind of relevance on a virtual avatar as they would a real person. Like Anet should know each person and what they would want. Or that they should pull some magical amazing present that would overjoy the entire playerbase. An avatars ‘birthday’ is a celebration of a user clicking a few buttons a year ago. Its a gimmicky thing they do to add to the game and people are taking it far too seriously.

This happens in many MMOs that have a similar system. Company does some gimmick thing that mimics real life and the playerbase swells up in greed and complaints. Its not just here, but it still just as ridiculous to see.

Maybe they shouldn’t have loot in games at all, because characters are not real. In fact why make games at all….none of it’s real.

Real nice. Because playing a game for fun is the same as people treating a virtual birthday as a real birthday and wanting to feel “special” from a faceless gaming company. It’s not real, ANet does not know who you are, will not tailor a present to your liking. The birthday system is an automated system that sends out little trinket gifts on a virtual birthday. That’s it.

My opinion is that they should not give out anything at all. These are characters, not real people, they dont have birthdays.
Though its neat Anet would treat the creation day as a birthday, some people are attaching far too much to it. Wanting to feel ‘special’ out of a playerbase of who knows how many, saying how much it all sucks.
Its a virtual birthday for pixelated people that means absolutely nothing. It always irks me when a company does some little thing like this for a “special day” and people crap all over them for it. Personally, I’d prefer it if they didn’t “celebrate” these meaningless dates at all. If you don’t like the present, destroy it and move on.

I find it hypocritical for them to change and take away CoF farming (which I never did) and put this in instead.
When they announced ridding the spamming of COF, I had high hopes. All they did was take COF and put it on the main map. It’s like they just said “Don’t spam that dungeon, we don’t like it. Spam and zerg here on this map, instead”

So then you have no problem.

But it comes to a point when one simply… has nothing else to do. And acquiring a Legendary becomes the hurdle to being able to say to oneself “I’ve completed this game. I can move on.”

Legendary is hardly a hurdle. Anyone who knows how to TP flip or wants to spend hours in a zerg can do it. It’s not the end of the game and never was for me. There was no “end”.
The point was playing for fun and interacting with people doing the same things.

Money is pointless in this game as it is, I have 200 gold sitting in my wallet I have no use for atm :P

Of course you have no use for 200 gold.

99.99% of the game requires 50 gold or less.

0.01%, which is a Legendary, requires at least 800 gold.

Your gold is sitting in the middle.

TBH if he wanted to invest that gold he could use it to make more gold to get him to that legendary area. That would involve knowledge and contains risk though. It’s far easier to make more gold once you have extra gold that you don’t need for the day to day stuffs.

I have no interest in legendaries. I find them uglier than other skins.
Commenting a remark on invoking knowledge and risk is irrelevant. I know how to do it, there’s no point for that gold in this game was what I was saying. I was playing this game because the activities were actually fun to partake in, gold or rewards aside. I don’t need a carrot dangled in front of me. I play for fun. This zerg farming isn’t.

Yeah…..I’ve been a fan of gw2 since I started playing and had enjoyed the living story content get better and better. Sanctum was great, with a new map, challenges, mini-games.
This is just bleh now. I have no interest in zerging the same mobs for hours. When they said some form of raiding content was coming, I had the unrealistic hope of something that took more effort or organization and cooperation. This zerging is stupid. How much coordination does it take to have 50 ppl "press1’ a mob to death then swarm to the next one? If people want to do this for hours on end for coin, power to them. Money is pointless in this game as it is, I have 200 gold sitting in my wallet I have no use for atm :P
Anyway, like Aberrant said, you can’t change the way people play or if they enjoy it or not. Let them be. And you can’t change the world with a little topic here. There’s too many people for it and the numbers of people doing it speak for itself. If you don’t like it, you have to either play the aspects of the game you do like or don’t play at all. Personally, this trends not for me. I’ll login and do my dailies and something fun if it arises….but if they keep going with this zerg-everything trend, might be time to see whats on the horizon for new MMO’s. Just gonna wait and see if they keep this trend going or not.

Ascended items would be arguably the easiest to deal with as the common currency is set in stone. Remove the gear and refund appropriate amount of laurels/fractal relics to allow the player to choose something else.

What stat will replace MF in celestial gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrRuin.9740

MrRuin.9740

Most obvious is not replacing the stat at all. They haven’t said they would, just that they would compensate for the loss of the items. This could mean they throw you 10 gold, or add the MF to your account, or just hand you something else.

“In the near future, we’ll detail the system we’ll use to replace the existing magic find items. "
Personally, I’m taking this to mean that 3-stat items with MF are being removed entirely. Celestials will have the MF stat removed and be compensated, as will ascended infusions (added to account would be obvious choice here)
Only time will tell, but I’m expecting the worst case scenario.

The hold up is that I need the green borderland map completion. Waiting 3 months for us to be green just once so I can complete it. My server does not WvW (we are last, I believe, or very close to it) and I still even managed to get Stonemist and all of EB.
We’re beating the odds at not being green in a 1 in 3 chance every week for 3 months. By far the most frustrating thing in this game thus far is checking every friday and seeing us blue or red -_-

Its a nice gesture and kind of neat that they even treat character creation date as a ‘birthday’. Leave it to some to treat it like a real date that means something and express sickening greed over it.
Don’t like what they give you? Destroy it and move on. These topics are literally making a huge issue out what is a trivial non-issue that affects the game in no way whatsoever, except in showing some peoples true colors.

My problem with guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrRuin.9740

MrRuin.9740

  • It costs a mere 1 silver (which means any level 2 person can start a guild in a matter of a minute)
  • There is no charter requirement (a love it or hate it feature – for those who don’t know what it is, it was a requirement to have 5 or so people confirm their support of the guild before it could be created)
  • You can join up to 5 guilds at one time.

-this first point is fine with me as it goes with my view on your second point
-there is no charter and there is no start-up fee. There is however room for your guild to grow. You need active people feeding merit into the guild to unlock certain things. With people doing these things, the guild will fade and die. An inclusion of reards that also require monetary input might be a welcome additon (guild base/housing, etc) I don’t find the guild start-up lack of fees or charter a problem as you must have ctive people to advance the guild.
- as for your third point, the idea is that you can join different guilds with different purposes. PvE, WvW and PvP. This way you are not limited to joining a guild that’s only into WvW and have noone to do PvE content with, and so forth. The guild loyalty you speak of still exists, as each guild serves its own purpose, people to do those activities with. Though, I agree that 5 is a bit excessive. A limit of 3 to accommodate the games 3 main gameplay standards would suffice.

not all content is for everyone, end of story. no amount of liadri QQ will make ANet look away from the praise it got from the people that actually bothered trying to beat her instead of blaming it on luck or profession of choice.

This, exactly.
I know I will never beat her, and never get the rewards for it and thats fine. This content is not for me, but I know it is for other people and they love it, so good for them. The Gauntlet was obviously designed for people looking for a steep challenge, and rightfully so. This update was more in line towards an attempt to appeal to more people. You had the Jubilee that was easy to do, just took a bit of time and then you had the Gauntlet which provided a much steeper challenge for those looking for one.

QQing about it does nothing. Even if Anet nerfed the Gauntlet so it as easy so any average joe could go win it, all the people who like it and earned the rewards for actually doing it aren’t going to be happy. But, I guess that wouldn’t matter to anyone who QQ’d about it as long as they were happy, who cares about the people enjoying it as is, right?

Why waste all that coin gambling when you can just buy it off some someone else who got lucky? I don’t understand why anyone would have the coin to do this, choose to gamble it away, then nerdrage when the gamble doesnt pay off, when the item could’ve been straight out purchased.

You can’t hold them to this because it means different things to different people. As evidenced by this thread and others, grind means different things to different people. To some, the almighty manifesto is holding true, to others it is not.
Nevermind the fact that things change. It’ll be 5 years from now and Anet will change something else and someone will whip out this manifesto as some kind of ‘evidence’ they’re doing it wrong.

I won’t deny that there’s a minor bit of grind in gw2 (yes, very minor compared to some MMO’s), but you’re not being forced to do it. You don’t fall behind in gear, you don’t lose the ability to compete with other players in anything. Its all optional for pretty skins and AP’s and little toys (balloon? :P)

Couldn’t we say everything in this game is just a show of how much time you have?

Would it be fair to say that a change to how long it takes to complete dailies would in no way affect your gaming? That if there was a change to make those who do care a little happier, this would not be a problem for you?

Basically, if this is not an area of the game you care about, why would you care if those who do care were to request a change?

Yes, you could say that easily. I’m just saying I’m not one who follows the AP numbers for that. /age does that better :P Anything in the game could be a testament to this, like legendaries.

Change to dailys would not affect me. I only do the ones I want to do or the ones that get done through normal gameplay means anyway.

And finally, I don’t care if you request a change or if people want one in regards to this. As I said, I dont care about the leaderboards or who’s ‘winning’ there and don’t even check them ankitten ot opposed to change in the dailys. I posted because you asked opinion, if people care, are for or against or unaffected. Mine falls under the ones who wouldn’t be affected. I don’t care.
I do look to gain AP’s where I can to move toward the reward chests, but otherwise its just a number. I’ve never even checked the boards tbh, because I don’t need to compare my number to anyone elses to see if I’m “winning”.
IMO, once you start farming them whether you like the activity or not just to maintain some kind of status on the boards, it becomes less a game for fun and more a job to keep up with AP’s that don’t mean much beyond showing the time you have.

Farm keys? I’ve only had like 1 drop in the past few months.

You can farm them from the personal story. Most common is the human commoner story, i believe.

I just laugh at the title. The OP has no idea how bad “Asia-Grind” can be.

I know, I laughed too lol

Kiel won because she gave a bit lower wp cost for a month. Its about the equivalent of voting in a President because he’s going to lower taxi fares for a month.
I dont even notice wp costs, what is the % reduction anyway?

Going to be level 80 soon...

What you ‘should’ be doing is enjoying yourself. You already have some goals laid out and thats a good start. Too many people want Anet or other players to tell them what they need to be doing or strive for.
Go dabble in everything and find out what you like to do and enjoy yourself

For me it is a nightmare because i relied on the bank to keep the money out of my inventory so i didnt spend it all the time. Now I just see ‘hrmmm…. I /can/ afford that thing i dont really need…’

How is it ANets problem and that the rest us should have to go back to the more inconvenient system because you have a problem with self-control?

Laurel refund for "Gilded Infusion"?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It isn’t an exploit, it functioned exactly as advertised. Now however the main reason for using the Gilded Infusion is being removed. You’re statement referencing “exploits” sounds more like sour grapes than anything.

Why does this “it isn’t an exploit” argument stop with that? It still works exactly as advertised, so why does anyone need a refund? They did not remove coin drops from game. The infusion still functions. Nowhere on the infusion description does it say “maximizes dungeon coin drops” or “spam Cof with this infusion”. A refund implies the infusion does not work. If a refund is wanted on an item that still does work exactly as described, then any bonus gained during the course of its usage should also be retrospectively taken away as part of the refund.

CoF farmers had your fun, made your coin, spammed it enough that it got changed and noone can do it anymore, and are left with infusions that still work anywhere else. Refund of infusions would be ridiculous.
Nothing against those of you who did it, but it comes off as extreme greed to ask for a refund back for an item you used to your advantage that still functions today as it did when you first bought it.

Everyone who did not vote earned cash

I didnt get what I wanted. I voted for Evon.

You knew that was a possible outcome. You still got to partake in the event to vote that you obviously cared about who won.

Fair? It is fair.
Those who voted and took part in the election system got what they wanted. They were able to take part in something and vote for a candidate they wanted. You want to vote and get paid for it too?
Those who didnt care about a virtual election of some NPC got nothing for this except token for an event they didnt care about. This is what those people get out of it. I saw many people asking if there was anything else they could do with their tokens since they didnt care one bit about this ‘election’.

Should Guild Wars 2 go free to play?

No.
B2P acts like a filter for a lot of trolls and idiots who float from one f2p MMO to another.
Not having any box sales at all also means more cashshop, which in a fully f2p game is becoming more common to be able to buy end gears/items at which point the game becomes pay-to-win. Then its a quick downward spiral from there. In that case, count me out. The model Anet is using now is great. The filter that the box sale represents is more than worth the price.

I’m wondering if this wallet will simply replace the bank for the achievement. Some of us don’t have the golden title yet (getting close)

Why world boss spawn windows should go

1. Download gw2stuff.com overlay and come to boss just in time.

This. I dunno why anyone would waste time sitting around in an area waiting on a timer window when gw2stuff.com (site or overlay) will tell you exactly when to go.

"We know the Abaddon story" - no we don't

Wasn’t there a game called nightfall that was all about abaddon, it doesn’t matter how he fell. We know he did end of story. We know nothing about the reactor. The gods are long gone, why does it matter about them.

This is such a lame argument.
It doesn’t matter how the reactor blew up. We know it exploded and its rubble now. Rooba vacuums it once in a while. End of story. Why does it matter? Bulldoze it over and be done with it.
Seems to go both ways. Both events are in the past.
