Mystic’s Gold Profiting Guide

It appears my winged wit hath overflown thy head.
lol. I’d like to be able to right-click something, and have an option “add to list of junk items”. I’d like to add all blue and green items, plus tonics and minor runes/sigils, to this list as well.
5% & 10% is A way to do it. it helps with inflation. not the only way, but it works pretty well. stop thinking you need to undercut everyone who undercuts you, and list your things for what they are worth, not what the current sell prices are, and you won’t have to relist at all.
an item that takes 1 month to sell at 100% profit is a worse investment than one that gives 50% profit after 1 week. (3.33%/day vs. 7.14%/day) not to mention the profits after that week can then be re-invested and multiply
due to botting, I agree it should be limited. but instead of 10/minute, how about something like 500/day or 1/second? either of those are much harder to reach.
they could could even add a queue to your client that you sell hundreds of things, and it only sends 10 every minute to the server for actual listings. seems like a stupid way to do it, but it would perfectly match what they currently restrict us to, which is also stupid.
I made a suggestion about this exact thing. any feedback on it will help them see that this is a problem.
I grab the +200%, so I have 220% mf, and when I go around killing karkas I’ve gotten an average of 0 crates from 10 total hours of killing.
maybe mf increases the chance of them dropping, but the +200% mf is bugged?
it was Tolmos that got 21D/51U, not Geo.
upload is usually 1/10 of download, unless you have some sort of business-class connection (such as T1/T3), in which case upload is usually as fast as download. I bet his 21/51 was most likely a fluke (maybe roommate downloading something, so it showed 21 instead of 150? or his computer chached the speed test data?)
the interesting ones are hella expensive. check out culture gear, order gear, dungeon gear. there are some truly unique things in there
karka shells are also used to make 5stat/5AR infusions.
Mac Pro 2010
6×3.33GHz (Xeon W3680 “Westmere”)
ATI Radeon HD 5870
16GB RAM
PCIe SSD (800 MB/s, 100k IOPS)
20 Mb/s internet connection. I am so jealous of non-US countries (and Kansas City) over this.
highest settings, no issues, lowest fps ever achieved is 14. takes about 5 seconds to load new areas.
it is not very expensive to run servers for a MMO (comparatively speaking). But that’s not their entire cost. I’ll take a guess at what are the top few things that cost them money:
1) advertising
2) everyone’s salaries
3) their office’s rent and utilities
4) servers to run the game
or teleport gun
that’s my standard I-can-get-there-by-going-the-intended-path-and-take-5-minutes,-but-I’m-lazy-right-now.
I believe it’s the same chance at all possible exotics. now, not all exotics are possible (I’m pretty sure things like Arachnophobia are not)
what you describe is rarely profitable unless you include the very valuable items. it might cost you 2g per exotic you get, and 50% of the exotics you get will be worth less than 1g, 40% will be worth 1-2g, 9% will be worth 2-10g, 1% will be worth 10-600g. (totally made up numbers)
if you’re only relying on the less than 10g items, you would expect about 1.3g return for that 2g investment. with the precursors, this jumps to 2.3g return on average. again, totally made-up numbers, but they illustrate the point.
well… single-use TP and crafting stations COULD be a good thing to drop, IF them dropping gave you like 50-250 of them.
I have the same problem with things like bank access express and merchant express. with only 5 of them out of hundreds of chests opened, I’m never going to use them because there’s rarely a situation that might need them. If I had 500 of them, I’d be more willing to use them for smaller things, getting me hooked, then buying more.
I’ll be bold:
I believe “working to resolve it” is not accurate.
“aware of” is a necessary first step, and it’s a good thing to be. This is often the hardest part. But this does nothing to help the situation.
I would of prefered fixing every minor bug you are “aware of and working on” in the game to the last 6 months’ worth of temporary content.
list 10 things on the Trading Post, then get “Error attempting to sell”, and you can’t list anything else for 1 minute. presumably, this is to prevent bots from listing thousands of things in a short time.
I have to question the effectiveness of this combat.
especially since the last update to this: where it doesn’t go away after that minute is up if you keep trying to sell.
Think about it:
You decide you don’t need any of their chef ingredients and decide to sell all of them. you have like 50 things to sell.
If you’re a human, you would sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, hit limit, swear, exit gw2, watch an episode of big bang theory, come back, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, hit limit, swear, etc. maybe 480 listings per day.
If you’re a bot, you would be programed to sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, wait 60 seconds, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, wait 60 seconds, sell, sell, etc. while your owner is watching a movie. so that gives you 14,400 listings per day.
This does not combat botting. It’s similar to a button on a website that says “click here to confirm you’re human.” = stupid easy for a bot programmer to account for, effectively only hindering humans.
really, this is a pro-botting, anti-player device.
If I had to guess why this is there, I would bet something along the lines of someone who didn’t put much thought into it thought it would be a good idea. much like the idea to require the entire chinese alphabet in your password.
a better solution? limit everyone to posting 500 things every day, and maybe also 1 thing every second. this would limit bots to 500 things a day and no human would ever notice (we’re already indirectly limited to this anyways).
And for science’s sake, have the message say that they reached their max listing potential for that time period!

I have no idea why they think this would combat botting. that brings up a point: where have they said this is anti-bot stuff? it just occurred to me I’ve never seen them actually say this, just people saying that was their reason.
bandwidth can’t be an issue either. I expect it uses the same bandwidth to sell 1 item as displaying one player on the screen once. think how many players are displayed every 1/30th of a second in wvw.

also, I think it’s closer to 10 listings per minute.

I’ve never heard anything about any limit.
except for after you gather all the nodes on the island, then you have to wait for them to respawn.
what are the respawn rates for passiflora and blooming passiflora?
transmuted items are actually account bound, not soulbound. account bound items can not be sold on the TP
I’d pay gems for that flame whip. but what weapon type would that be? 1H sword? it’d be a rough choice, but I’d definitely replace my Jormag’s Breath with a flame whip.
So he’s talking about all the 1c buy orders for everything? I’m not so sure: “People that put in an order and price it one copper over the store price”.
Anyways, if he is: those are from before an update that made the minimum price of all items 1c above it’s merchant price. Anet just doesn’t think it necessary to remove those from the TP, even though they can never be filled.
Lol! Mystic that is brilliant O.o
I shall one day be hailed as either a genius or a fool!
I did the same with each of the rare back pieces (in case they one day made them salvageable for ecto). (I store what my alts and guilds can’t hold on the TP) strangely, the soldier spineguards are currently worth far above what I could of hoped, and I have no idea why. I made about 40g off those alone, which paid off the cost of buying all the others

I’m not sure who got it first… I picked up the crab from the ground, ran away. when I turned to keep running, I noticed this guy also had one… it seemed everyone was chasing him and not me. I think only he actually got points. screenshot attached
example: Leeks have a merchant price of 7c, you’re talking about people placing buy orders at 8c? yes, the person filling that order loses money compared to if they sold to a vendor. why do they do it? so they don’t have to consider the option of selling to a merchant, which saves them time. or their bag is full and in the middle of a dungeon. or they don’t know any better.
it sounds more like you’re asking: why do people place these orders to buy the things at 1c above merchant value? well, they don’t plan on selling it to the merchant. most things are usable, like leeks are used to craft stuff. others can be salvaged and the mats are worth more. or maybe speculation.
personally, I’ve bought like 10 stacks (2500) of superior sigils at 1c above the merchant value. if Anet updates the game to allow these to be forged into random sigils, then they will be worth maybe 40s each (a 1160% profit after TP tax = 787g profit) If they never do, I can always sell them to a merchant for a total loss of 25s. If I don’t need the gold in the meantime, it’s almost no risk and possible huge payout.
I’d like to point out that it is only possible to tip when the person does NOT ask for it. If they ask for it, that would be called something like moral blackmail.
This is the first I’ve ever heard of someone giving tips for shortcuts, and I’ve been giving people portals to places for months. a good idea, but the mesmer should NEVER expect or ask for tips.
When I did this JP to get the sample, another mesmer happened to be near me at the same time. I’d say we helped each other during different parts of it.
how do you survive the fall? is it possible to do a normal jump into the water? I considered using a teleport gun to get far enough, but that can’t be the answer. only tried to give portal rides once, and went splat instead. there was land under that water X(
Titan: not to mention I often get an extra rare or 2 from the boss’s chest and not just daily rare chest. also, do you know there are like 20 events that give a guaranteed rare daily chest?

well, good thing I didn’t go out of my way to buy boat loads. after reading the patch notes, it looks like they did nothing to increase ecto price.
them charging you? I noticed that too
didn’t know when that was added, but it makes them easier to avoid now. kinda like a bull – you dodge once and it’s 100 feet behind you before it can stop.
it’s good to have different mobs have different skill sets.
I had some different issues, except 3. I got 3 as well.
I would lag from time to time. usually in dungeons but not always. not even always during action, but usually it was. it would usually go: lags for 2 seconds, play for 5 seconds, lags for 3 seconds, play for 20 seconds, lags for 10 seconds, play for 5 seconds, disconnected.
I would get a message about network connections when selling stuff on the TP. Like I would sell 5 things just fine, then when I select the 6th, the TP would stop working altogether with that message.
saturday, I deleted GW2, then re-downloaded it entirely new. played a couple hours on sunday, and there may of been one bit of lag for a half-second, then gone. Hopefully that fixed it…
if your level is above the level you play, all rewards are related to the level you played, and you do NOT go up a level upon completion. They mentioned something about extra karma in this case, but I’m not even sure where you get karma from in fractals, so iuno.
if your level is below the level you play, you DO go up a level upon completion, and I’m not sure what level rewards you get. AriaSilverfyre is probably right that you would get rewards that your level would give.
to answer your strike-out texted: it’s usually cheaper to make them, especially if SP are relatively unlimited for you. use your equation to figure out the costs, it does vary time-to-time and dust price plays a big role.
if there is no inventory limit, then players don’t limit themselves.
once you add a limit, players will actually think twice about what they keep.
it’s a design choice, not a space-saving issue.
so I can’t help but wonder if Anet is going to decrease ecto drop rates to increase their price. It just seems like they like to keep them around 30s (they tend to go above 30, then below, then above, then below, etc.). maybe this patch, maybe the next…
no, I do not have 20 stacks of ecto I’m looking to unload.
and, no, it’s not 19 stacks either.
it’s closer to 20 ectos (0.08 stacks), and I’m saving them for a legendary. I’m just thinking that right NOW might be the best time to buy more… I’d hate to regret it in a couple days.
If you get the chest, your chance of getting rare/exotic are the same as everyone else’s.
There was a bug I reported a while ago about events and chests in dungeons, and how if you died anywhere before 10 seconds before the event succeeded, you would get zero credit for that event and no chest for you. I haven’t checked if this is still the case as I haven’t died in a dungeon event in a while, and I’m nearly positive this is not the case in open world events, but I thought I’d bring it up because it was sorta relevant.
I find it very, extremely, hilariously, outrageously funny that people call things like ranger traps into chat. guess it’s just my keyboard layout – not much chance of pressing return when the nearest combat key to it is G
when someone posts what they found, it’s because they are excited about it, because they don’t usually find it. on top of that, half the time they are trolling you. I guarantee you: if you start trolling other people with what you find, you’ll start feeling MUCH better about what you find.
but not all conditions tick by the second: cripple, stun, confusion, chilled. you do make a good point, though.
I’m having a really hard time seeing how a food is OP while the only thing it works against is also OP… then again, maybe both should be nerfed for that reason: you shouldn’t be forced to use something just to survive.
it used to be something special that only the most dedicated obtained. not all commanders were great, but no unskilled had one either. now, I frequently see 10 commanders wandering around LA. they kinda lose their meaning at that point. still useful, but too many commanders in wvw means each one leads smaller groups.
AR from fractals is mostly gotten from getting infused rings (also from the AR infusion for 75 relics). ascended rings have a low chance to drop above fractal level 10’s daily chest after completing the maw fractal. these can be forged into +5 AR infused versions in the mystic forge (ring + 5 vial + 3 glob + 1 shard of essence). infused rings have a low chance to drop above fractal level 20’s daily chest. either of these infused ring can then be upgraded with AR infusion for a total of 10 AR. there are also recipes to make infusions with +5 AR and +5 stats, though these quite expensive (around 15-40g each)

the TP? it’s their clever way to tell you you’re selling too quickly. you’re only allowed like 10 sales per minute. if you go above that: error.
fun bug: if you keep trying to sell waiting for the error to go away, it won’t. with the last update, you have to do nothing and stop playing gw2 for a minute before you can sell again. I guess it’s Anet’s way of telling us to stop playing so much.
there are also trainers in all of the cities. might even be some in towns, but I’m not sure.
always check the TP while leveling your alts. I was able to get master and grandmaster manuals for 90s and 1.7s, respectively. buy prices get filled… I think Meluna is right that sometimes people buy one when they don’t need it or accidentally buy 2, etc. Just place the order when you start the alt, update the listing each day or so, and it should be filled quickly (both of mine were filled within an hour).
Harathi Hinterlands / Seraph Assault on Centaur Camps?
it ends with “[Group Event] Defeat Ulgoth the Modniir and his minions (43)”, and you DO get a daily rare chest from it.
it’s one of my favorites, especially for leveling and completing dailies like “kill 50 enemies” and “do 5 events in Kryta”.
What I take from that quote is that they might do something similar to utility infusions. maybe add then to all exotics? if laurels remain time-gated, that’s one way to build up magic find over time: you can only buy so many utility infusions per month. then you have the choice between +5 stats or 20% mf. a choice for min/max’ers, but hardly anything even they would complain about when someone joins their party.
they won’t make it useless. too much revolves around it.
some players would argue it’s currently useless. :P it’s mostly a matter of what people want out of the game: fastest kills or make the most out of each kill.
I wish all the bots would go to one server, all the cof farmers would go to another, all the other dungeon farmers would go to another, all the RPers go to another, all the inactive people go to another. that would leave all the other servers for people who do varieties of stuffs.
the university I went to had that. 10 colleges within the university, and each one is for different personality typed people. each college even told prospective students who tended to go there (classes were attended by all, this is primarily for housing).
-kill stuff in Orr
-gather from every node in the game and repeat!
-meta events
personally, I think it should be fine to use an auto-clicker for the sole purpose of saving yourself from carpel tunnel. As long as you’re not having it do stuff while you do other stuff, it should be allowed.
now, what should be and what is are possibly two different things. use at your own risk.
another thought: how about Anet adds something to the drop-down menu for things like chests, karma potions, bags, salvage kits: “use all”. for chests, this would open all 250 in the stack instead of 1.
then there would be no need of auto-clickers and they could outlaw them to their hearts’ content
lol at Orangensaft. what works better than ascalon fractal: molten foundry.
hmmm, estimates:
ascalon fractal level 30: ~10 mobs outside the gate, 5 groups of 8 mobs in the gate, 5 groups of 3 mobs in the courtyard, 3 kills of squire = 68 vets
molten foundry: 5 groups of 4 vets in the tunnel, 3 groups of 5 vets in the chilled rooms, 10 groups of 3 vets near prisoners, 5 groups of 3 vets between these = 80 vets
I know I’m off, but one thing is for sure: 2 runs of either of those will do you for monthly (as happened to me this month :P)
I still don’t know what ‘gliding’ means in this context.
the camera works great 98% of the time for me. I couldn’t imagine a better implementation.
that 2% of the time: objects are in the way and the camera has to move around them, including cramped areas where your character’s head fills 40% of the screen.
I do wish I could zoom further out (like how it is during some boss battles, like the maw fractal)
maybe your computer is just slow and/or you need to up the rotation speed in your settings?
what makes the camera “gliding”?
mesmers are one of the slower classes. offset by being good elsewhere.
