any investment on the TP will decrease other investments. If they have their own investments, then them investing for you would decrease their own. the only time this would work is if they knew of investment opportunities and didn’t have the funds for it.
then again… one option for this: long term investments. give someone 100g, they buy several different items and hold it in their bank. when you tell them, they sell it and give you 75% of the profit. more like a stock market than investing…

they move around all the time. I would say they get shuffled at the weekly reset, but I feel like it’s more common than that.

I would wager that if everyone played all parts of the game equally, charged lodestones would be as common as all other lodestones. that, and they are probably as numerous in as many recipes as any other lodestone.
the only reason they are scarce is because the locations to farm them are more challenging / less otherwise rewarding than the locations to farm, say, molten lodestones. that, and the things they are used for have prettier pixels than things other lodestones are used for makes more people want them.
all that makes YOU increase the price and scarcity of them.

me neither, but it bugs me whenever I click on someone’s post titled “Mini pet problem!” or “TP is broken” to help them with that, and 10 people have already told them to empty their inbox.
I’m not suggesting no inbox limit. I’m suggesting that just the mails from when you purchase from the gem store are always displayed at the top. a big going for this suggestion is that these mails are already auto-deleted when you retrieve what you paid for.
server resources has little to do with the 10-mail limit. the server still has to store all your unread mail. If server resources were that scarce, it wouldn’t try to send you all 900,000 purchases you’ve made in the last 8 months on the TP when you look at “items I’ve purchased”

I’m someone who’s crafted for 1 hour and made 10g profit how I did it:
place buy orders for skritt-ton of mats
run fractals to pass the time while the buy orders are filled
retrieve crafting materials
start timer
refine crafting materials (read a book while waiting)
craft things you have previously calculated to be 10+% profitable
list things on TP for profit
stop timer
wait ~2 days, collect half of the profits
relist remaining items
wait ~2 days, collect the rest of the profits

it should be noted that this does NOT scale. making more items just results in you having to do this less often, and relist more times before all of them sell.
a more accurate description: “I made 10g profit over a week from 1 hour of work”

I can see the need for encouraging people to clean their mailbox, but if this is such a common recurring problem, maybe the inbox should show mail from the gem store regardless of full inbox.
It is also a way to treat those that have contributed to you, and helped fund this company, with respect. If you buy stuff from a grocery store but there isn’t enough room in a bag for all your stuff, they don’t force you to drop that stuff off in your car then come back for the rest – they give you a second bag and offer to carry it out to your car for you.

I’ve got a daily rare chest from Tequatl, then another from Ulgoth the Modniir. I was under the impression there was only 1 daily rare chest per account, but clearly I got 2 for different types of events. Does anyone know how these are grouped?
Like, can you kill Tequatl, Fire Elemental, Ulgoth, and Eye of Zhaitian and get a daily rare from all of them? which can you kill and still get another daily rare from which others?

I recently complained that drop rates in fractals have tanked. That I used to find 2-3 rares per run but now find 1 every 2 runs.
After reading this, it just occurred to me that back then, I was running with 120% mf and now I have like 20%. doesn’t completely make up the difference, but it does get closer.
then again, I just did a fractal run last night (20% mf) and had 6 rares drop before we even started fractal #2’s boss. rng.

I made a rng equalizer for the game I made. people were complaining that the rng was too random :P and giving streaks of like 10-in-a-row and stuff like that for equal odds. I set it up so that the longer the streak, the less likely it’ll happen again. but that cut both ways, no 10-in-a-row streaks in their favor, either.

personally I like going to Thaumanova Reactor.
1 Vet ice elemental in cold room
1 Vet crab in water room
high chance of 1 Veteran Rotting Oakheart in poison room
especially good when you also get Kill Variety
high chance of Fire Elemental event

ok, makes sense. at first I thought it should be by percent different in results. but even flipping a coin should give you numbers close to 50% within 30 flips.
I like to see it like this:
if you roll it one more time, how much will it change the average if it’s the highest or lowest possible result. say 30 flips gives 15 heads and 15 tails. 16 heads and 15 tails will change the percentage to 51.6% : 48.4%, which is still pretty close.

I got mine by accident while running wisps :P just avoid every trap. I’m not sure is opening spider eggs counts, but that’s my favorite wisp to return.
though I will add that most people get that achievement by mysteriously going afk to some roommate emergency at the start of that fractal :P it only takes 3 players to complete that fractal.

WvW will never make you money unless you’re the extra range ranger that doesn’t take risks. every death is ~1.5s, and every kill gives you something like a 30% chance to get something likely worth 5c to 2s, say 1s on average. so you would have to kill 5 enemies per 1 of your deaths just to break even.

I don’t see it as a convenience until they release the other 2 tools as well. still gotta go run back and buy sickles and axes. might as well buy picks while you’re there.

I buy my ori tools with karma. much cheaper than gold.

other methods of turning karma into gold are around 50,000 karma to 1 gold. that would make 350 karma worth 70c. at 21g for unlimited, that’s equivalent to 3,000 tools. 300,000 uses. 3 seconds per use = 900,000 seconds = 10.4 days of harvesting (not counting running between nodes, this is what teleport bots would observe)
it’s not worth it in terms of long term investment.
but it is worth it in terms of convenience of never not having one in the future.
however, without the other 2 tools as well, this second one doesn’t really count as you still have to go buy stuff and worry about those.
the only way I’ll buy this is if the other 2 are also available.

for those who don’t know: the ori mining pick is purchasable from Lionguard Demolitionist Varrv in Southsun Cove for 60 seconds after completing the “Help Lionguard Demolitionist Varrv plant explosives in karka nests” event. 4 months ago I did this and bought 20 stacks of picks. I currently have 2 stacks left and will need to head back there soon :P

soulbound definitely made it any iffy purchase for me.
but just that wouldn’t of made me not want to buy it. it’s not a convenience in my opinion. sure, you don’t have to worry about ever having mining picks again, but that not worrying will make you not worry about axes or sickles. so you’ll end up not being able to harvest those from time to time. If all 3 tools were released, I’d be much more inclined to buy.
if all 3 tools were released and account bound instead of soulbound, I’d drive home from work right now and buy 2 complete sets.

From what I read of custom playlists: when you enter a city, for example, it will always play the first song on the City playlist first. When that one is done, it will play a random song from the City playlist, then another random, and so on.

An easy way around this is to create a song that is like 0.1 seconds long of no sound, and have that first on every playlist you have.

If you are not interacting with a bounty for a short period of time (de-aggro), they will run away even if time is not up.
It’s happened to us before. We started a fight with only a few guildies present because we were rushed for time, but it killed us kinda quickly, and the nearest WP was far away, so it happened that no one was there for several seconds while the first to die were still running back, and she ran away.

I would expect it to NOT be upgraded to ascended if you transmute it.
however, I also expect that it will be possible to transmute it into the ascended stats you want by getting the ascended weapon with stats that you want.
I’m also not too confident current non-transmuted legendaries will be upgraded to ascended stats…

effectively, the only requirement in my opinion is all masterwork or better gear at your level.
which stat type is totally up to you and should compliment your skills and traits
personally, I have a short bow/long bow ranger with full exotic berserker gear (highest damage)
I also have a greatsword/sword+focus mesmer with full exotic knight’s gear (high toughness, high damage)
it all just depends on what you want :P

Exotic is 165% the stats of Basic, and Masterwork is 135% the stats of Basic, so Masterwork is 81.8% the stats of Exotic. A difference in player skills will easily make up that difference and more.

Sorry, Hickeroar, but I don’t agree that 30 salvages is conclusive. with some things, such as melting points, this is probably enough. But in those cases, the variation is not very much (98 to 102). In salvaging, it’s 0-3.
An example to why this doesn’t always apply: the lottery. take 30 random lottery tickets and tell me with precision the average return for the cost, WITHOUT knowing the chances of each number being drawn. I can tell you I’ve purchased 40 lottery tickets for $40 before, and won $12 from it. with those $12 I purchased more and won $2. with that $2 I purchased more and won $0.

well, it does depend on the buy and sell price of that precursor. looks like Tooth of Frostfang has buy orders at 361g and sell prices of 415g. If you list for 415g and have to relist it later, that’s the same as if you listed it for 394g to begin with. what I’m getting at: the buy orders are 2.6 relistings below the sell price. So even if you relist it twice around 415g, you would still make more profit than selling to buy order.
If the buy price was closer, I would say do buy price.
The other option is to just list it at 400g. not as much profit, but it’s more likely to be purchased if it’s closer to the buy price.

I did CoF last night, path 1 & 2, pug group, no requirements. we kicked bootay. both paths in under 20 min. profession distribution? thief, mesmer, guardian, guardian, warrior.
defending magg has never been so easy. every enemy was dead before the next assassin came out.

I’m able to buy this. I chose not to. I know I don’t want to invest in learning tactics for leading a zerg. Really, I’m helping my server by not getting a commander icon :P now, sometimes it might be helpful. a poor commander is better than no commander. but having no commander in wvw is very unlikely, especially since the game has been out so long.
it was so weird how the commanders were pretty much in charge of where to go next during the karka event. I hadn’t done any reading on what to expect, but good commanders are in the know.

sounds like you like non-complicated direct damage? I’ll recommend warrior or ranger.
any profession, the first several levels includes trying every type of weapon that profession can use. each one will ease you into it (you start with only 1 skill, then after x kills you get a 2nd, then a 3rd, then 4th, then 5th). this lets you find which weapon you enjoy most.
one more thing: leveling is fairly linear. meaning the time it takes to get from 2 to 3 is maybe only half as long as the time from 79 to 80, provided you are fighting enemies at your level.

there is an easy way to get skill points: make a new alt and simply run around getting all the SP on the map (202 of them). You’ll probably need to get to level 60 or so by the end (which just gives you more). it takes maybe 10 hours? iuno. I did it part time over a week. if it does take 10 hours, thats 20 per hour, and if they are worth 20s each, that’s 4g per hour. comparable to most other forms of income. and if you were going to level that alt anyways…

I do like that groups like this usually make it obvious what they expect before you even join the group. look for words like “gear check”, “exp”, “speed”. the longer the post, the more you should stay away.
I would like to add that not all pugs are like this. 99% of the pugs I join are random normal people. they might give up and quit if the party keeps wiping, but they aren’t going to kick you for dying once or not doing what they want you to do. Don’t stay away from pugs just because you hear stories like these. Just be more selective with which pugs you join

I purposely don’t join any speed run because of stories like this. I know everything that would be required of a speed run mesmer, and I do do those in pug cof runs. But if I ever see someone in my party gear checking or booting for being a noob, I’m leaving that party.

I do wonder what the difference in time is between how much they can shave off with a 100% efficient mesmer vs. time to find said mesmer. I’d love to hear that they then spent half an hour interviewing mesmers to find one would make their runs 1 minute shorter… then only do 10 runs with them!

I do know that people are generally much happier to see a mesmer show up in their party than a necromancer. so in that sense, life will be easier
but a lot of people like to excel in non-popular professions just to show others who’s boss.

necro: most people simply don’t recognize the giant contribution these professions make. they are certainly useful in the right hands. but they don’t directly affect other players. I’ll example:
Mesmer can Time Warp, and people can see it and know that they do a lot more damage when in it. also portal to make moving around easier, plus multiple other skills that boost a party. Then with my mesmer, I use Superior Rune of Lyssa, so when I TW, I also get 5s of every boon, which I then give to the rest of the party with Signet of Inspiration. I’m sure everyone notices that just when they can attack much faster, they also get like 10 boon icons.
Necromancer is also useful. I haven’t actually played as one, so I can’t even say how useful, which just goes to show that they are useful in ways others can’t directly see. Things I think I’ve seen: apply fear to nearby enemies is nice, lots of minions to take aggro.

you should do these calculations for the legendary you have in mind.
when I started collecting for Kudzu, I calculated that it would cost ~1200g to buy everything needed to make it, then all the SP and karma and w/e. or could just buy it for 1500g.
of course, it’s cheaper if you find a lot of the things.
I decided to make it because it would give me a better sense of accomplishment.
unless someone looking to sell their legendary makes a horrible mistake, you won’t be able to buy it for cheaper than it costs to make. Only question is how much more expensive is it?

one solution: the daily/monthly leaderboard percentage could be how many they completed and how many were available to them, not how many they completed and how many there have ever been.

So I noticed a recurring bug with regard to Leeks on the TP
in short: merchant price is 7c, but I keep seeing sell orders for less than this, all the way down to 1c.

I can’t place any buy orders for less than 8c.
I know you added the update a while ago that you can’t buy or sell at or less than the merchant price, but this somehow is getting around that.

in dungeons I’ve recently been getting periods of lag (dominating a boss, then everything stops for several seconds, then I’m dead). but when I get it, no one else is getting it. I assumed it was just me. in the ~6 months I’ve been playing, this is one of 2 short time periods I’ve ever seen lag.

I kept thinking of suggestions for how to use portals that I was going to tell you, but Ethics covered all of them :P
oh, one more: after Invaders capture your keep, hide in a corner inside the keep somewhere, then when the zerg leaves, make a portal to let your buddies inside the keep then kill the Lord and recapture the keep without having to destroy any gates. Most zergs know about this threat and will quickly scour the keep looking for mesmers.

quite simply, these are so rare that they are desirable. possibly as investments. (I know I’d like to buy it at 3g and sell it at 10g!)

some core → lodestone does yield a profit even with the TP tax. which ones are profitable change day-to-day, but I do see it.
and, yes, Mystic weapons are pretty guaranteed to give a profit, though the SP : gold ratio is a bit low. that’s what happens when you sell in bulk: cheaper but more reliable.

and obsidian shards.
I made a point to get clovers before gift of might and magic. just because I knew I was going to get T6 mats from it.

so far in my efforts to make my first legendary (I’m taking my sweat time), my most memorable experience was rolling the 10-clover recipe and getting 45 vials of powerful blood. I was definitely ok with that over clovers.

is there any usable difference between the purchased (green) and the found (yellow) skins? like, once you apply that skin to a weapon.

I was under the impression these non-torch illuminating items didn’t work in the EB JP anymore? (such as Mad Memoires)

skill is much more important than level, IMO. So I expect it’s fully possible, though I do recommend a 5th that can show you the ropes.

quickness wasn’t. timewarp was. when I first heard of time warp, I knew it was an elite (so it should be better than most utility skills), so I guessed it would last maybe 4-5 seconds. NOPE. much better than that.
personally, I would prefer twice as long at 1/2 the effect to how it was. instead, they just dropped it to 1/2 the effect :P so now TW is normalized, but all other quickness skills last half as long as they should.

did that booster multipack ever give anything besides just those 3 boosters? my guess would be that it used to be random, but then they changed it to just give those 3 but forgot about the now-useless recipe

When I started, I found that there was no way to find enough materials to craft to make things that keep up with how quickly you level.

most likely they are still discussing it.
and yet that answer would still be preferable to nothing.
if you’re contemplating maybe, possibly, perhaps, potentially someday adding it into the game, we want to know!

I don’t know what happened, but I’m extremely glad I bought enough for my Gift of Might when they were 6.5s each tempting to sell… but I know I’ll soon need them again. 16g → 65g

I like the idea of RL trinkets. I hope they let you do this!
what would be cool is if Anet made something like these, but somewhat personalized to your character, and mailed to you after you complete some huge achievement, like God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals. If they do 3D printing, it could even be an actual figurine of your choice of one of your characters.
