I think that could have worked in GW1. It would have been a bit strange at the time, but the stories were rather linear, aside from a few split and rejoin points. Some zones would have to be released in pairs (like going into the Kurzick/Luxon parts of Cantha), but I think a release system like that could have worked out fine.
I can live with linear, it’s the peace meal I’m not crazy about. I don’t want to be artificially slowed when progressing through a story. It works well enough for the episodic Living Story stuff we’ve had so far (though I think there’s been far too much filler), but for big things like Elder Dragons or expansion into Cantha/Elona, I don’t want to explore new areas one section every two to four weeks.
With GW2, as Kichwas.7152 said, that could end up being way too linear in comparison to the GW2 world we already have. Releasing single zones would severely limit a branching storyline, trying to fit different arcs into a limited area.
Another thing about zones being added one at a time is they’re going to be jammed full of people, and all the other zones are going to be abandoned by all but the tumbleweeds. Too many people isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but…well, imagine trying to enjoy a scenic hike with your friends and while a marathon is being run on your hiking path. But that’s a personal hangup that doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.
Yeah. It’s good that the current maps are full of people.
Silly me, it’s not like all zones are half dead already.
Oh, what’s that, I can already hear replies – servers are always full.
Excuse me again.
I find it more fun that arena net is still ignoring a thread with more than 1000 posts.
How is the game evolving and how is it even a “living world”>?
I didn’t play Lame & Frost, I didn’t play SAB, I didn’t play Molten Facility, I didn’t play Southsun. And guess what? I didn’t miss anything. Nothing changed, nothing stayed.
How did this come to this.
What happened to old Arena Net?
Seriously.
Greed? Money? Fame? What are you talking about? Did you actually read the information?
GW1 was bigger game than GW2 and yet Arena Net managed to sustain it even without micro transactions.
I fail to see how GW2 will gain additional 3 000 000 players to reach the GW1 level without expansions.
I completed the whole pirate thing except for JP in about 3-2 hours (12 Achievements).
So basically, they’re expecting me to log in for 2-3 hours and then be excited about new 2-3 hours content that will come after 2 weeks?
What are you doing to encourage less “zerg” game play and more “smaller team” game play, will WvW ever stop being all about having bigger numbers?
How did this come to this.
What happened to old Arena Net?
Seriously.
Greed? Money? Fame?
Quick! Sue Arena Net for offensive use of Asian elements!
And -
Shouldn’t the core experience been there/integrated since the launch?
Is this still beta?
I’d gladly shell out 40-50 for a whole new continent to explore
But I’d really kill for new skills and weapons.
Quoted for emphasis.
You are complaining that the game is bad, the original GW was better, and so we should hear more from the GW1 since it was the better game.
No. I just want to know whether they’re still working on GW2 or not.
I’d love to hear what the founder of Arena Net thinks of the GW2 future.
Too bad you never hear anything from them.
For example – Mike O’Brien, the founder or Arena Net -“He led the design and content creation teams of the original Guild Wars.”
Is he no longer working on GW2?
What about others? The ones who were responsible for PvP, etc?
Were they all fired or did they leave?
I would much rather wait 3 months for 3 different dungeons than have 12 different Living Stories that are temporary and doesn’t add anything new to the game when they’re gone.
Zones are already dead, been leveling up 2 my alts for the last 2 weeks.
Supposedly high population server.
Buy Arena Net and resell it to EA.
One of those concept art pieces sure looked similar to Cantha (Luxon city)
More than anything else, I’d love to know about their plans on Elona and Cantha.
Seems boring to me.
Everyone, shush for a moment and watch this hilarious troll portal video taken in the JP (video not owned by me)
Hilarious.
Did that once to players in Eternal Battlegrounds.
The players were waiting for a portal and thought I was friendly, so i went to them and used Guardian’s shield 5 skill to KD them of the edge and die.
They were so angry.
Yeah. made my alt Thief just to troll people in WvW.
Is it still possible? If so, could anyone show me the build?
If not, what’s the longest time you can stay in stealth?
Pro Tip – Screw the JP, use Portals.
I wasn’t even in an overflow doing the new JP.
Merchant. /15rngboxes
Easy, finished with the first time.
Can’t wait for the next temporary update, hopefully they’ll name it “The Attack Of Gem RNG Boxes.”
3 000 000 accounts = 3 000 000 players
Good one.
Ok, so assume they add Ascended Gear.
Great, now your stats are +5% better.
And now what? What’s the point?
Where will you use? Obviously in PvP if you’re playing it.
What about PvE? Everything’s facerollable even without those extra 5% (not counting FOTM).
So yeah, people are overreacting.
Fights are easy both with Ascended and Exotic gear, just spam 1 and dodge that red circle.
Yeah. Guessing is pointless, I agree.
But, you must be really blind not to see that people are quitting this game and that this game is NOT as active as it used to be.
I used to play Runescape back when it was quite popular.
I remember it said “More than 2 million players” or something on the front page.
But, when you were selecting servers, there was a number indicating how many people are actually playing the game at this given moment, it was harldy ever bigger than 15 000. So yeah, I have no evidence for GW2, I already said that.
I’m playing on a supposedly high population.
I am yet to see any city being as active as Kamadan district 1 in Elona.
That place was insane with all the spamming and randomness.
~ ~ 3 000 000 bought the game.
~ ~ 60% no longer play it.
~ ~ 15% don’t play it actively/think quitting (less than casual – log in once in a month to see nothing has changed)
~ ~ 20% play it casually.
~ ~ 5% something .
I’d say maybe, 200 000 – 250 00 people still play the game.
~ Maybe 10 000 – 15 000 max at peak hours.
No source, I’m just making an assumption based on what I know and see in game while paying PvE and PvP.
(edited by Nick.6972)
Aetherblade is not hard at all.
What happened to it?
Ok, let´s see if I can put down the list from memory..
- Halloween Event(gets deleted)
- Southsun Cove Karka Invasion(leaves an empty island)
- Winters Day(gets deleted)
- Fractal Dungeons(grind till the cows come home)
- Living story starts (new content comes in, gets deleted and comes in, gets deleted and comes in, gets deleted ..)
- Moto Dungeon(gets deleted)
- Dragon Bash(soon to be deleted)
I think that about sums it up, right?
Good one, +1.
What happened to it?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember back when game was still in development, Arena Net talked how this mini game would be included when the game launched, and it wasn’t.
Now 9 months later – still nothing, only empty polymock arnea near the Rata Sum, and one in Lion’s Arch (I think) and few NPCs in Divinity’s Reach talking about it.
Yeah, I wonder why, maybe I should go complain Dice to make BF4 JRPG.
Play the first game, then compare it to GW2, play “Insert generic MMO here” and compare it to GW2.
Which share more similarities?
Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and throw it out of the window.
My point is – theres absolutely nothing GW2 has common with GW1 except for lore.
GW2 is more of a WoW Clone than GW1 Clone.
The irony.
Why do people think that raiding equals gear grind?
That wasn’t how GW1 worked.
But then again, obviously, GW2 is not trying to be what GW1 was, it’s trying to appeal all the other generic mmo payer needs, not their original fans.
Follow the GW1 formula, 8 Normal Instances, 12 Elite Instances.
Yes, please, for once arena net, do something right, add 8 player raids.
Agree. Decided to do Jormag again yesterday, the fight was around 20 minutes long and at the end guess what I got – 1 crap gold and 3 Blues.
Like, what the hell, the whole dragon fight is already boring, add bad loot and I really have no incentive to come back to that place.
Story was a nice addition to the original game, however, I’m not really a lore player.
I remember first time I finished DoA after weeks of long Sunspear ang Lightbringer rank grinding – it was amazing, I can’t even find the words to describe it.
All the encounters in GW2 feels just … soulless.
Start by increasing the party size and making bigger and more wide open instances so all players don’t just simply stack on one boss and skill effects don’t block your view.
I tried doing the new dungeon yesterday with 2 rangers.
The whole run was pathetically slow.
Today I did the dungeon again, with 3 Warriors and 2 Guardians and we completed the end boss in less than 13 minutes.
Facts speak for themselves.
Personally, I don’t think NCsoft wants Arena Net to release anything major this year – it could make Wildstart lose its potential players and thus lose money.
But, other than that, keep increasing the difficulty, add more different unique skins to the game (not to gem store), add more skills, add more PvP modes, increase the party size, add more instances and dungeons, the list goes on.
Yeah, already saw that place few days ago.
You can hear weird mechanic sounds near the mountain.
10 overpowered, 500 good and 1000 mediocre skills is still better than having close to no skill customization at all.
Was more like 10 overpowered, 500 acceptable and 1000 worthless skills. You could really count the important skills on the fingers of two hands.
- shadow form
- protective spirit
- save yourselves
- hundred blades
- searing flames
- iway
- discord
- pet gimmicksprobably missing a few. Feel free to help.
eventually most popular builds revolved around at least one of those. That goes for pvp and pve alike.

And what happens when you get bored of running the same build all the time?
You change your skills and try something now.
I want to play a new GS Guardian build in GW2, I can’t do that, Traits don’t change my skills.
