Thanks everyone who came out it was a lot of fun. Let me know if there is anything I could do improve it next time.

No clicking. Play a decent setup that can take on larger numbers. Frankly watching you guys play was painful and I doubt it encourages people to rush out and try it. Do more then point out the obvious. Talk about improvements that are coming to the game to encourage this type of play. Those would be my suggestions.

I’m pretty excited, because the only reason that I can think of why Rawbrah left JQ and brought a lot of EMP BEST commanders/ and players with him is because he got tired of living in FOO’s shadow.

EMP must have really been bad if RE represents the best of what they were. Just another zerg guild. Agg and TG significantly better and more impacting then RE.

I think the stream was very useful in showing players more playstyle options. Everyone is whining about zerg balls and complaining they have no way to get in more small scale fights. Well, really the only way to have more small scale and less zergs is to have more groups doing it and now after watching an ANET team trying to do a little bit of roaming while on a live stream all you haters can get out there and show us how it is done better.

I think the issue is do you think anyone is going to rush out and try it after watching that stream? It was ill conceived and poorly delivered by someone that should stick to zerging.

Dear god man get over yourself. Just because there isn’t a hack category in the report tool doesn’t mean they don’t investigate them. I filed a ticket with screenshots when I saw an AC exploit and got an answer back within 3 hours.

If I was a company with the intent on actually policing the game, what would be the best way for my staff to get an accurate assessment in the quickest time possible?

A reporting tool that lets you pick an appropriate category, records character doing reporting, character being reported and thus all of their related information like server. It also records exact position in the game for both characters, exact server time stamp, and anything else that is needed, all wrapped up in a nice summary.

Or

An email address where I have no control over what information that is sent, no hard information on position, character IDs, time, etc.

I think the answer is pretty clear and since they already have a reporting tool which likely gets most of the information needed already, how hard is it to expand to include more categories? This is something that should have been added months ago and I do not think anyone should be making excuses for why it hasn’t.

WvW Abilities - Points Reset

I personally hope they do not add the ability to reset points.

The AC changes are destroying the game as it is, imagine if everyone was allowed to reset their points and go full AC mastery immediately? At least this way ANET gets some time to fix the change before it gets even worse.

I might view it differently if WXP was a challenge or effort to get, but when you can just go faceroll tagging in a giant zerg of people, its not really that big of a deal to earn more points.

For my guild I would say nothing in the game has impacted their desire to play and log on as much as the WXP system did.

It is not so much that it is bad, its impact on the game is marginal, rather the fact that it showed clearly that the amount of effort ANET is willing to put into WvW is marginal. The entire WXP system to me screams ‘easiest and fastest way to implement’ with little vision as to how the system could have been used to make WvW better. Squandered opportunity that shows a complete lack of vision, imo.

The reason WvW is boring is because the meta is boring. Large balls of people running around stacking when told, using abilities when told, and then charging when told. I personally think there are more tactics employed in the use of siege then there is in fighting each other, something that the latest patch increased. Why are we increasing the use of siege?

I think siege is for bashing down doors and walls, and destroying the siege that allows folks to bash down doors and walls. The only reason arrow carts need to be in the game is because the design of keeps/towers/aoe is so bad that it is impossible to defend using your own skills. I would honestly rather see them fix that problem, and remove AC’s all together.

The implementation of WvW in GW2 does not promote skill, advanced tactics or group synergy. What it does promote is zerging and an overuse of siege.

In my opinion the overall issue with thieves, and why we continue to see these kinds of threads, is that they are extremely good at killing bad players as the skill cap for fighting a thief is higher then that of playing the basic thief.

Nothing about WvW encourages people to play better. No incentive to learn their class or to learn other classes. The vast majority of the players in WvW spend most of their night following a taco, stacking when told, blasting and dropping combo fields when told, running gear and abilities they were told to run.

Their play is dismal and it creates an environment where even bad thieves can be successful.

You’ll be in for a surprise in the near future.

Suprises aren’t surprises if they don’t surprise me. It doesn’t surprise me that in ‘the near future’ Dragonbrand will be on top.

Dragonbrand wins Arrowcart wars.

Though, you do fail to realize that FA does not care about the score – they do, however – care about it just enough to stay in T2 and get good fights, but really – 3rd place in Tier 2 is still a good week for us.

So go right ahead and brag about ‘winning’ and ‘ppt’ and this and that…

You also fail to realize that at one point, both FA – AND – TC both flatlined DB for weeks straight (before they stacked their server).

Don’t you worry – both FA and TC will adapt just fine! <3

This guy is hilarious. DB made it to tier 2 BEFORE arrow carts were buffed. DB got to the score they currently have BEFORE the arrow cart buffs.

DB wins matches. DB isn’t the old DB, so don’t compare old with new.

Uhh 1st Eve is a lady, and she would know about DB as she was on DB.

Edited the original post to correctly represent her majesty. She knows about the OLD Dragonbrand. Not the current one… We are different now (hence destroying the opposition in tier 3 and 2).

Lots of good folks on DB, good players, what they lacked was just a few more folks, which they got. The tough folks to fight are the OLD DB, not the new ones.

We’re NA prime time focused. I can vouch for my guild, we’re not focused on off hours. We’re trying to set up a come home from work and fight more skillful players. Less people equals less Zerg. If you enjoy running on a map with 80 mans around, power to you. We have the opposite mindset.

And what time is that? There is 6.5 time zones in North America, your come home from work and fight time could be 5 hours earlier or later then someone else in NA’s coming home from work and fight time. There is always off hours.

Riot is fairly close with Rezz and the guys from Invi. We won’t be moving, but we will see how it goes for them. If it is as amazing as you guys say it will be, we will revisit the idea of transferring.

I don’t get why you wouldn’t want to transfer. I put up with T1 for 6 months and couldn’t be happier since I moved. Yesterday you mentioned in the meeting “You think people in lower tiers aren’t as skilled or as geared” Obviously this ridiculous. If you are coming here to fight small man groups then what does it matter? Or were you saying we (The small mans) aren’t as skilled or geared, I sure hope not because I faced RIOT on T1.

It almost seems to me you are missing the point here.

I have opted, for myself personally, to also not make a move to a lower tier.

I played in the lower tiers and it is not really about the level of available skill, it is the quantity. When I left T8 originally I did so out of boredom. During prime time it was fine, but at any point in off hours it was mostly just running around and occasionally finding a fight. More people means more people at off hours, more skilled players in the pool, more decent groups, etc.

The DAoC 8 man days were great, but most of the time you were still fighting zergs as you waited for competition to come online, doing that on a T8 server in my opinion makes no sense. T3-T4 would have been a more reasonable approach, in my opinion and I felt the push to lower tiers was driven more out of desire of organizers and not nearly about what made the most sense.

That said I wish everyone making the move the best of luck and I hope it becomes everything everyone hoped it would.

Ascended Gear... none again?

I think Anet has made a good call by NOT making a WvW-specific way to get ascended gear. I enjoy WvW and usually roam solo or with 1-2 others. If, one patch, I suddenly discover I could have farmed enough badges/wxp/whatever for a few sets of ascended gear if I had just chosen to zerg instead, I would feel a little disappointed.

In other words, people are already upset that zerging is too popular. What would happen if zerging became the fastest path to ascended gear?

So ignore an entire play style because zerging is too profitable?

Besides those zergers are more likely to be doing other things to earn their ascended anyways, its the small group folks that only wvw that need the assistance more. At the end of the day there is only so many pieces you can wear/use at once, the currency just impacts how fast you get the pieces, which in the end means nothing.

Devon, please do not destroy WvW by listening to the very vocal minority. WvW is the only place siege exist. I love using siege and it’s THE ONLY place we can. WvW is NOT the place for small GvG fighting. That is the main problem here. Specific guilds trying to change every aspect of the game to suit themselves. And, these individuals that believe they have skill because they press a number for a skill.

Make the population on sPvP maps larger to suit them. This way they can do their thing without spoiling WvW, please??

I really wish we could stomp this stupid suggestion once and for all. Every discussion about GvG always ends in someone telling folks to take it to sPvP environment. If you spent any time at all in sPvP or farther then 10 feet from a zerg you would know that the two are not the same and sPvP is not conducive to what people are looking for.

WvW is about being inclusive of all play styles, be it solo, small group, 20 man squad, giant 70+ zerg. There is a role for each of those play styles within WvW. If WvW is only about siege and objectives, then why not just make DAoC style battlegrounds with one keep in the middle and we just all fight over it? Why have space to roam? Supply camps to defend? Sentries and dolyaks for solo’s to kill? Why make scouting important? WvW would be greatly diminished without all of these things, yet you want all of WvW to be ONLY focused on sieging an objective? Seems extremely short sighted to me.

You want a legendary but don’t want to go through too much hassle in obtaining it? :/

Please note that all those hardcore WvW players need to get into PvE to get their map completion, and there are quite a bit more vista’s, POI’s and waypoints to find in the PvE map than in WvW..

Dont forget about the 340+ kitten heart quests you have to do. If it was just the vista’s poi and waypoints I would do it, but the heart quests is a deal breaker for me.

Our goal is to provide a complex combat space that rewards skill, tactics, and ingenuity and while we haven’t fully achieved that goal yet, I like to think we are getting there.

I really need to ask how do you think you are getting there? In my opinion, game wise, we have moved backwards since release, not forwards. Right now nothing in WvW rewards skill. Kill tagging system for WXP is not reflective of skill at all. Zerging objectives down with 70+ people is not skill. Tactics used by even the more advanced zergs are still pretty basic as far as individual play goes, and outside of the occasional ‘flank’ there is nothing tactical about it at all. Stack, combo fields, blast, go go go.

While I appreciate that the trail blazers of siege placement were pretty ingenious, most commanders/players just use google to find where to place things and that will not change regardless of how you change the combat space.

Of all the games I have played GW2 requires the least amount of skill on the part of an individual player. Since you feel you are getting there, I would love to hear what your view of skill and tactics actually is.

Retaliation nerf was undone?

Get smart, stop being a baddy, things will change. Stop requesting nerfs.

This. AoE doesn’t mean you get to beat 5 people by yourself for free. Retaliation is a boon, smart players will do the following.

- Wait for it to run out before using AoE.
- Have a necro use Corrupt Boon/Spinal Shivers/Well of Corruption
- Have a mesmer use Mind Stab/Null Field/Arcane Thievery
- Equip a Nullification weapon

The rangers one shotting themselves on retaliation are the glass cannon I just want to hit everything for big numbers without thinking builds, and frankly they deserve to die.

While I am not complaining about retaliation, your list of items applies how to big zerg balls, which is the current norm? The only one in your list even remotely applicable is null field.

Personally I think rather then reduce it by 33% damage, they should have linked damage to how much you take back, it would solve a lot of the ‘many small hit’ issues.

Official T2 Matchup: DB|TC|FA

1. We took Briar and built a treb to kill the arrow carts on the gate.
2. We built 2 rams to kill the gate.
3. A bazillion arrow carts were behind the gate and killed the rams.
4. We ranged the gates down with our ossum staves.
5. Gate goes down and we are greeted to so many red circle on the ground, I thought the Bay contracted an aggressive form of the herpres simplex virus.
6. We get through the herpes after applying some Valtrex (which was a push through the gate).
7. We built 5 trebs in the vale to hit the inner. I can only imagine a lot of TC pugs were using this as a good opportunity to get WXP by repairing the gates/walls.
8. After a long bore fest of this. The walls and gates were finally down. We then put two trebs on the south outer gate of Bay to treb down siege on the walls.
9. We built another treb over looking the dock to kill more siege on the inner.
10. We made a push to the south inner gate and found out that Valtrex does not work because there was an outbreak of an even more nasty herpes strain.
11. We slowly built our own counter arrow carts and proceeded at a snails pace to take down what we could.
12. After taking down all the siege that we could while pushing with our own arrow carts, we pushed in and took the bay.

And you preferred something like..
1. Build Golems.
2. Take Bay.
… do you?

What you described sounds like what a siege should be, to be honest.

Minus the important aspect of the game, fighting, players using skills, moving, etc.

Now usually keep takes are fun and epic, this was nothing but boring and tasteless. Siege Wars 2, Treb Wars 2, Arrow Cart Wars 2, whatever you call it, it ain’t GW2.

Today AoN broke down and built a treb, it was a guild first. It fulfilled Convenant’s childhood dream of building a treb, but otherwise it was not as momentous as we might have hoped.

Unfortunately a zerg wouldn’t come out from behind the milegate to fight and then set up AC’s to prevent us from coming through the milegate to play Treb took out the AC’s and a ballista, but it took way to long. So much effort to counter a few arrow carts

My expectation has been that each ‘play type’ is getting some ascended gear.

This would be totally antithetical to much of their design philosophy from the beginning. Which is play the way you want, and still get equal rewards in any game mode, not being forced to do parts of the game you do not like in order to progress maximally.

Make all items available in all avenues, the only thing that needs to be balanced is the amount of effort to get them should be fairly even relative to each mode.

It is how it is set up now, they break down the play as you want barrier by having the fall back laurel currency. You never have to do fractals or guild missions, all you ever have to do is the daily/monthly. As long as everything they add has laurels as their currency it is still within their design philosophy.

We are not planning on adding a new currency to handle Ascended items in WvW.

Well there goes my theory. Sadly this won’t be the last time I’ll be wrong about something, but I’m man enough to admit it!

Thanks for the clarification Devon and probably killing pages worth of speculation.

I think badges are fine. You are right in he short term, but say 6 months down the road we will all have an over flow of laurels in the same way as we now have an overflow of badges.

My expectation has been that each ‘play type’ is getting some ascended gear.

We have Fractals with backpacks/rings
Dailies provide Amulets/rings/accessories
Guild Missions provide accessories

I kinda figured WvW would provide say weapons, with them also being bought by laurels from dailies so those that do not want to do wvw have another option, just like us WvW folks can get the other stuff from dailies.

Then maybe have the ascended armor from dungeon token combinations, and of course laurels.

Random speculation of course.

I jumped on an arrow cart with my lowbie today, I was hitting on average for about 1900, highest I think I saw was 2500, with a superior arrow cart. It was fun picking up all he bags beside me and seeing those big numbers, but seemed like way to much damage, imo.

I like to think of changes based on how I think it will impact the meta. To me the likely hood of turtling is much greater as is the aspect of not bothering with defended objectives and do everything you can to take undefended objectives, specially with the 30 sec delay on swords.

Granted both of those are successful if your just looking at PPT, but the whole point of us all coming out to play, is to fight each other. Epic three way battles happen because there is a point in being there, if we all avoid the situation because the hills lord room has 15 unreachable arrow carts…. no more epic three way battles.

Give it a rest man… Every server here, if not every one in gw2 period, has tried to recruit at some point… No need be bent that some answer the call, whether for a week, a month, or a year…. Sensitive Sally’s are half the reason people end up leaving eventually… Maybe you should start saving, and find yourself a new home?

What does any of what you said have to do with my comment? I never mentioned server recruitment at all and why would I need to find a new home?

I think your definition of “making it into a big deal” merits reconsideration.

What do you think mentioning it is costing the equiv of $10k USD should be rated at?

You want zergs busted, defense instead of karma training promoted, they give you options for it, you whine anyway.

So what about everyone that wants to fight with their weapons and skills and not use siege? What about changes to the walls so that defending a wall is possible without being slaughtered by AoE’s all while every time you shoot you get ‘obstructed’ message?

Guaranteed this change means larger zergs at objectives, not smaller ones, because the solution to everything in this game is to just throw more people at it, or take it so fast that there is no chance of it to be defended.

Despawning Blueprints

The timer works like this: When you deploy a siege site, if you don’t put supply into it for 2 minutes, it will despawn. Every time you put supply in, it will get a new timer of 5 minutes. Once siege is fully built, it has the 30 minute timer. That timer resets every time someone uses the weapon.

30 minutes? That’s it?

This patch seems to have put a lot of focus on making defending even harder than it has been, is that deliberate? Sure, arrow carts hurt more, but if you get there and they’ve all despawned, ouch.

The 30 minute timer is actually longer than it used to be. It also is visible now, which it did not used to be.

This shows how little you know about WvW, the area you are supposed to be our key contact on.

Rough life of a bandwagoner, keep working at it though, you will prevail.

The term bandwagoner is thrown out to every guild that doesn’t transfer to a T3 or lower server. CO had to move because we were losing players due to the toxic atmosphere that is on Kaineng. The constant negativity gets old after 2-3 months. Kaineng’s NA teams were under a lot of stress. Anyone that argues against that is a kitten The 3 NA guilds that could influence the change in PPT by a lot had to cover from 1pm EST – 2am EST everyday. We had no EU guilds and a very fair weathered server. I do wish Kaineng the best however, if anyone thinks I was going to let my guild die on that server just because of server pride you are wrong.

That would be a poor definition of bandwagoner since it was still bandwagoning when you transferred to KN be in T8 or T5 or whatever it was. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is negative folks, kittens, and fairweather players on all servers, there is no special place that is void of this type of thing, as the KN experiment has proven. Everyone that plays at weak points in coverage has a tough time, you are not a special snowflake.

I do not care you are transferring, I care that you are making it into a big deal like we should all feel bad that you are off to greener pastures, again. Save yourself some stress, as soon as you get everyone over to DB, start saving for your next move.

Outmanned buff = green light

Make it so the enemy factions cannot see outmanned buff It is a green light to rush as much as you can as fast as you can.

No info should ne displayed as boon/foods/ upscaled lvl, etc etc.

only guild and server should be observable.

I am all for removing outmanned and the uparrow from the enemy seeing it, but asking for no info would just dumb down play. How do you intelligently strip someone of their boons, or know when to add conditions, if you cannot see what the enemy has? The game has enough zerging button mashing meta’s, we really do not need to encourage more blind pressing of buttons.

Given that T1-T2 is the only tiers with enough population at your play times to keep your guild active, you transferred to T8, spent weeks ruining matchups with an unbalanced server to get all the way to T2, and then you transfer to T1 because of boring battles when your tier advancement stopped?

Given how boring you play, your boring meta, and the fact that you transferred to T8 to be bored for a couple months, I am calling kitten on the whole ‘boring battle’ excuse.

Why do transfer costs have to be such a kitten lol. It’s costing my guild 14-20k gold to xfer our WvW core which is equivalent to around $10,000 USD. That’s if we really cut it down and trim ~200 semi-active players =\

If gem prices go up May 1 I think it will take CO until the end of May to fully transfer over and to be able to be in full force again. Until then we can only run 20-30 man teams a night during the weekdays and unfortunately prolly max 40-50 people this reset. Also, unfortunately until we can get situated we won’t bee too much help for DB since our #1 priority is to farm the gold to get our team here.

Rough life of a bandwagoner, keep working at it though, you will prevail.

Also, there is some delusion (with an underhanded insult attached) that DB is pure like FA, in that, they don’t care about PPT. That’s also nonsense. T1 is all about PPT and DB’s renewed strength can be traced to its new imports.

I do not really care about your blathering, but giving all of DB’s current success credit to a few T1 guilds that transferred down is pretty much insulting to the rest of the server that got them to T2 in the first place. TG isn’t from T1 and in my opinion is still the best DB has to offer.

So…we just transferred onto Dragonbrand and it will most likely take 3 weeks to get our guild out in full force b/c of the 24,000 gold cost. However, I can’t help but to feel like Goku as he’s ascending to Super Saiyan 1. Just wait TC and FA, we couldn’t stay away from you, but push us around….you might unlock our hidden power.

Is that the hidden power of knowing the next bandwagon server?

PVT toughness in my opinion is extremely valid for specific builds and setups, and maybe necessary for specific roles within a group.

The zerg’s blanket use of PVT is the same as the over use of stacking before every fight, it is a way for unskilled players to organize around simple to understand instructions. Can’t rely on your zerglings to know what gear is best for them, just tell them all run PVT.

What everyone should do is evaluate their role and thus stat needs, determine what would be ideal. Then find a happy medium between that and enough survivability so you are not dying, well before anyone else does, you always die

Personally I think it is funny to stack weakness on a PVT zerg, so I hope they all keep running PVT.

I would guess for the same reasons we never have coverage at this time of the day, ie sleeping, RL, etc.

Not ranks, we don`t want that crap reset, just the option for the points.

Speak for yourself. I would love to see a meaningful WXP system put in place where you didnt faceroll for points and then reset everyone back to 0 rank.

I personally did not think damage was the issue, rather the number of stacks. Rather have seen the damage left alone and just cap the number of stacks so that a person has a chance to react to suddenly being hit with stacks and not one shot themselves on an already triggered attack.

ANET is all about the easy, quick and lazy approaches to fixes though, so not surprising this is what they did.

Though you guys may not have your entire force in BG yet, i enjoyed fighting alot of RISE last night! You guys are super bad, good luck and hope you’ll be able to RISE after the 20th time, cause you didn’t RISE at all last night. Welcome to T1. Please give us competition in open field.

Small man/Havoc Crew Tier Consolidation?

How about an entirely different proposal?
Bundle all those guilds and groups in the weakest of all servers and once this server reaches the top tier with guerilla tactics, the entire meta will have shifted.

Then you aren’t thinking it through enough. Other servers will want to win, too. It will take at most 2 weeks and they will realize, they can’t win with one big zergball, no matter what. There will always be 5 guys sitting in whatever they try to take, stalling with arrowcarts, while 10 havoc squads swarm the map, causing mayhem left and right. Their big zerg will still be able to take objectives but it will cost them lots of time to do so.
They will be forced to split up, if you just keep up with the small group tactics. At least in the lower tiers, dunno how it will turn out in t2 and especially t1.Let them have SMC, let them have their garrison and their EB keep, the rest will belong to the ones who can be at the most places at the same time.
If you guys don’t act like the PAXA guys and show at least a LITTLE bit thirst for ppt, you will force them to fight you on your terms or move up a tier easily, where you can hopefully force your opponents to split up.
I’m not saying you should play ONLY with groups of 5, I’m saying, the perfect server would probably be like 20-30 groups of 10 to 5 and one “siege buster” zerg(note, not one per map, one zerg of 40-50 for the entire server) which is just actively hunting down zergs.

The problem is, it’s easier to coordinate like 7 zergs than coordinating 30+ groups, that’s why everyone is zerging anyway, cause gamers are lazy. Without coordination between groups, such a system will fall apart.

This system we are talking about has ZERO POINTS at the forefront of our decision. Most of the guilds in line for this PVP tier aren’t interested in a single point.

Simply put for minds that are finding it difficult to understand: we are USING Anets platform of wvw to create a NEW player vs player open world platform. That means when a small man team leaves their spawn, number 1 priority is finding another 5 man to fight in open field combat. No one is going for points.

I agree with naphack, I think there is a lot of value it breaking the zergball meta, showing potential for tactical approach to WvW. Down the road guilds could play on any server and any tier because there will be more tactical groups to fight.

Not to say ‘fight’ isnt top priority, but PPT and success of your server should not be ignored, if for no other reason to ensure your tier stays stable.
