I noticed quite a few complaints about Braham’s reply to whether they were curious or not about why she did it.

Well…

1: Wasn’t that the point of the Origins of Madness patch? We got into her secret lab under the Priory to find some indication of what her goal was, and while it never stated exactly what she was trying to do, we at least got an idea on her next step and an inkling of things to come.

2: Whatever her reason for it was, it was not going to be good enough to justify what she did to get to this point. Forming alliances that make little to no sense when you consider the lore/personalities behind the factions involved, antagonizing most of Tyria in the process of doing so, and taking up time and effort better spent on new zones, better stories, and tying up some loose ends from the first Guild Wars.

3: She’s a slippery one who like to just teleport away when things aren’t going her way. Surprisingly she didn’t do it this time, perhaps because she didn’t expect to lose this time. Or she couldn’t.

Still, her asking them about being curious about was clearly a ploy to buy time for the drill to finish, regardless of whether she would’ve told us the truth or spun up some elaborate story. (Given how she tricked all the alliances into being her puppets, it would’ve probably been the latter anyway.)

4: Braham was right anyway. Doesn’t matter now with her dead. Would’ve been funnier if he had just cut her off mid sentence and smashed hr face in with his mace.

Why roll a thief? It’s the perfect thing for trolls and griefers to play with in WvW, second only to groups of 3-5 killing roamers and Moa Morph. They play it just to frustrate anyone they think they can kill.

They weren’t that overpowered, they die if a boss so much as looks in their direction with an AoE. Fire Elemental Powder was arguably the only really good one, with extra burning, while the Whistle is random and the Seed Turret is stationary (and only the healing one was useful)

A 30 second cooldown all but kills their usefulness, only really handy now in an entire zerg using them—-which seems to be what incited this irritating change to begin with.

On topic, so the huge meta-guild killed them in 3 minutes. So?…was this before the patch that made them even more annoying?

Knowing what we know now (and most have us have known all along), the Pale Tree is a wayward Champion of Modremoth, much akin to Glint. The Pale Tree has been shaping its Sylvari to resist Mordremoth’s call. We can assume now the Nightmare Court are Sylvari who remain loyal to Mordremoth.

1: First off, where’s your source for this “known” information?

2: You do know that Glint was freed by a spell used by the Forgotten, right? How would the Pale Tree have broken free to begin with? All Ronan did was take it from where it was and plant it, and Ventari lived around where it grew and left his tablet. Not quite sufficient to break the link between a dragon and its minions. Also, the Pale Tree and the Sylvari have free will, something dragon minions lack. (While some possess sentience, it basically is summed up as “serve/hail the dragon!”)

3: The Nightmare Court are composed of sylvari that chose willingly to reject Ventari’s Tablet and it’s teachings. While their method of corrupting people does seem quite similar to dragon corruption, (Nightmare possibly being connected to Mordremoth), this is still not enough to say “Sylvari = Dragon minions and Pale Tree = Dragon Champion”.

I think Scarlet was playing the long game and was planning on destroying Mordremoth, but our heroes came running in and killed her before she could finish her plan. I think it was a great victory that will ultimately be revealed to be the biggest mistake. In short, I think that, by killing Scarlet, we made everything worse.

Well, she did a rather bang up job of it, recruiting armies that antagonized the rest of Tyria, interrupting a jubilee on a whim, and blowing up Lion Arch as a big distraction.

Also one of her lines just before her death seems to imply otherwise: “Tyria will bow before a new master.”

If killing the dragon was her goal, she could’ve just as easily warned the Pact or helped them prepare for the dragon’s awakening, instead of basically forming an Anti-Pact whose sole purpose was to kill and die senselessly to cover up her trying to wake the dragon to begin with.

Seriously…where do they get all their numbers from? Maybe the Inquest cloning tech is for real in Tyria…

If her reason was really good enough, she’d have already stated it instead of egging us on to wonder about it. Besides, given that she has a knack for teleporting away and using voice commands in her monologing, it was better to just end her right there than giving her another chance to get away.

Admittedly though, the ending really did leave more questions than answers. What was the point of gathering all those armies if she was just going to drill a hole in the ground to force some energy elsewhere to wake up a dragon?

Even so, nothing specifically points to Sylvari being intended dragon minions from the start. If anything, it would make more sense for the Nightmare corruption to be related to Mordremoth, since it behaves similarly to dragon corruption. But the Sylvari themselves? Still too far of a stretch without more conclusive info.

Remember, Glint needed to be given free will by the Forgotten’s magic. Just being planted somewhere by a human and a centaur who left a tablet would be insufficient to give the Pale Tree and it’s offspring free will from Mordremoth if they were in fact created/corrupted by him/it.

I’m just glad that invasive weed is finally dead.

Admittedly, Kas and Jory’s story isn’t really that great, but still glad they didn’t die, nor did Rox and Braham even. After all the killing in the late Personal Story, it’s nice for the only one to die to be the one I wanted to die.

That being said…the ending scenario/cutscene, while pretty, was still kinda meh. Part of me already figured ahead of time that whatever she was trying to summon would wake up at the end even after killing her.

It was also supremely annoying that the main way to get in wouldn’t work because the blue knight kept healing. Even then, the boss fights just felt tedious and drawn out thanks to the cheap mechanics designed seemingly just to do that.

While they were nice enough to have an alternate way in, it’s way off past a small mob of Aetherblades (including a Veteran and an Elite) and you need the Spinal Blades on to use it. Oh, and the death lasers target you while you’re over there and when you’re trying to talk to Turma. Yeah…annoying.

Right…well, at least now we can get to something better…right?

Well, you can sneak over to the three center reactors and kill the veterans there to get those spots, which gives a Mist chest with Badges of Honor inside.

You can also kill the sentries on bridges and in the lower middle section for some quick karma/exp/coin.

There’s a nice variety of nodes around, especially in the middle section to get as well.

Unfortunately, gankers running in groups of 3 to 5 and zergs will still probably mess that up, like they always do. Best bet is to just avoid the EotM (and WvW in general) unless you really want the WvW Badges for something.

Utility Suggestions:

- In another thread, someone mentioned the idea of a “trap kit” for all of the ranger’s trap utilities. I think that’d be great so you could play a trap ranger and still have two slots open for other abilities as well.

- Lightning Reflexes should remove crippled, chilled, and immobilize when used, and give one or two seconds of stability along with the vigor.

- Signet of Renewal….really needs to clear conditions more often, as rangers really lack active condition cleanse. Maybe change it to cleansing a condition every 3 seconds as opposed to every ten seconds? The way it is now, we need that and Emphatic Bond to keep conditions off…and even that doesn’t work so well.

Starting with my thought on the weapons.

Axe (main hand): As neat as it is to throw an endless supply of axes at enemies..it really isn’t that great compared to the axe skills for other professions, besides the Winter’s Bite giving chill and weakness. Splitblade only works well if the target’s right in front of you, which clashes with the ranged nature of the other skills. I think it might be better to give rangers the ability to use main-hand daggers, then put the current main hand axe skills on the main hand dagger while giving new abilities to the main hand axe (Although..I’m still not sure what would be good replacement skills at this time.)

Axe (off hand): Path of Scars is fine as is. I think that Whirling Defense should also give a few seconds of stability along with the retaliation, so that enemies don’t just CC you since you’re rooted in place while performing it.

Sword: Perhaps have Hornet’s Sting inflict torment? Or make your pet’s next attack inflict torment? Eh..the sword skills are fine mostly, despite the rooting animations for the sword chain taking some getting used to at first. Oh, and maybe make the leap on the last part of the chain count as a leap finisher?

Dagger: (off hand) If giving the main hand sword torment isn’t a great idea, maybe it could be applied to Crippling Talon instead.

Greatsword: Main combo chain needs to hit harder. Also, Maul should inflict 5 stacks of bleeding with the 5 stacks of vulnerability. It’s a little disappointing that the one hand sword hits harder most of the time.

Short Bow: I think that the range of the Short Bow needs to be increased to 1000 at least. With only 900 range, you might as well use a main hand axe instead. Crossfire could get a 50% chance of inflicting bleed on hits instead of just flanking/rear hits (Only a 50% chance on hits to make up for the rapid fire. If it inflicted bleeding on each hit…that could get crazy.)

Poison Volley….needs to hit harder. Doesn’t seem to hit that hard, although I guess the poison’s supposed to make up for it.

Quick Shot could inflict torment when it hits, or grant that to your pet’s next attack as well.

That’s it for the weapons. Next post will be on suggestions to improve the utilities.

Yeah, except that Evon also apparently guessed the attack would come and did nothing to help prepare for it, not even secretly or on his own. He’s also not wasting any time badmouthing her and Magnus in particular over it while they’re trying to at least do something about the refugees.

Still…the Council’s to blame for not preparing more adequately in the end.

As of right now, I’m trying to reach the last heart on Bloodtide Coast, the one in Rhiann’s Respite. However, these things lingering around the area north of it, and near the entrance, have thwarted my attempts so far.

What’s worse is they seem to linger even when the event isn’t ongoing, so I can’t just wait for them to despawn. Why is that?

1) They also linger at Bogside Camp’s Waypoint. Beware.

2) A group of them near the entrance to the oasis. It didn’t end well.

3) For each husk you see, there are 2-4 stacked together. Really?

Tequatl was annoying too, but at least it didn’t interfere/prevent someone from completing the map.

Hm…that post seems like a similar thread to this one (obviously) but nothing that a) a dev commented on to dissuade the theory or b) that actually picked out a specific piece of lore that said the theory isn’t possible. Unless I’m misreading, it seems like a group of people hashing out a theory just like they are here but not really disproving the idea that the Pale Tree is tied to Mordremoth. If anything, reading that thread made me think that the idea is even more plausible.

Unfortunately, the “Pale Tree = Dragon Minion” theory has been torn to shreds by the Lore forum. At any given time, you can probably find five or six threads there taking turns digging up its corpse to kick it again.

Which is probably why you chose to post it here, where people were less likely to know.

Can you please link a relevant thread? I don’t frequent the lore forums too much, and the reason that I posted this here is because it ties heavily into lore, the living story, and the game mechanics that would be needed to support it. With that said, I have seen one or two topics of this nature float by, and I don’t think I’ve seen a convincing argument for why this couldn’t be the case.

This is not a joke , it is the sad truth of pvp . AI based builds destroy pvp . I want to Q up for some player versus player matches but I end up fighting mobs instead. Not only its not fun but it is also incredibly overpowered.

I still suspect a troll, but I’ll feed you, this time.

I’ve played a Minion Master Necromancer in PvP for a little while, and they’ve got their weaknesses:

1: Lack of stun-breaks/stability. All they’ve got is Flesh Wurm’s Necrotic Traversal, which is easily countered by killing it first. Conversely, their only crowd control comes from the Flesh Golem itself, which can mess up if timed badly. If a hammer warrior or any other control heavy profession manages to get close enough to stack them on a minionmancer, they’ve either got to tank through it with Death Shroud or use their Necrotic Traversal to get out of there.

2: Kiting the minions and focusing the necromancer themselves. Simply kill any ranged ones or ones with cripple attacks and you’re fine.

3: Attack and kite the minions away from the necromancer, then burst them down with AoEs or multi-hit melee attacks. Minions can’t be recalled actively like ranger pets can, and with all their minions dead, they’ve got between 30 seconds to a minute of being more vulnerable until they can re-summon them.

4: Polymorph Moa/Moa Morph. This utterly destroys all their minions if it connects, forcing them to retreat or die. Although (as far as I’m concerned) that’s an utterly skill-less way to deal with one, and using it makes you even lower than a minionmancer yourself.

And that’s without just ganging up on them like people in SPvP do anyways. So, this thread is silly.

Seriously its just pathetic , they dont even use their weapon skills. Just run around in circles like a headless chicken and let your minions do the work…

Sadly , the only way to counter this is to jump in the aoe spam bandwagon. There is no other way around , no matter how good you are , nothing can be done against this broken build. The minions deal insane damage, they have CC, they throw condis on you… And the saddest part is that 0 skill is required to play this build.

I’ve had maybe 6 or 7 from drops over the entire time I’ve played this game (the last one being last night), and the rest from the personal story/map completion. They seem to be just below a precursor’s level of rarity, though I’ve never gotten a precursor, so maybe not.

Not really worth buying them, even from converting gold, since the Black Lion chests usually have junk.

So… You want a gift of exploration for completing four maps, while everyone else completes (vague calculation) 25 much larger maps?

I don’t. Others might.

WvW is the easiest, you can just wait until your server is the color you need, then run in and complete the map. This would not be fair in the slightest.

That only works, provided..

1: The random rotation give you each of the three different colors and doesn’t stick your server on one color for weeks on end, or excludes one color from them. That still happens for some, even now.

2: The other servers don’t just swarm your server’s borderland/Eternal Battlegrounds territory and take them before you can get the POIs/vistas and/or if they’re nice enough to let you get those map points (which almost never happens).

Between those factors, it can take about as long, maybe even longer to get the whole WvW map, compared to PvE which is longer due to more maps but can be mostly done at your own pace (except for some spot around certain god statues in Orr).

And it’s not like this would make legendary weapons that much easier to get, and the gift of exploration only has one thing it’s used for (besides selling to a vendor for 12.8 silver…)

It would help both PvEers and WvWers. What’s so bad?

This thread is in the Suggestions forum, but since it does invlve WvW, I thought I’d bring attention to it here as well.

I had the idea of giving WvW map its own completion bar separate from the map of Tyria(PvE), and having completion of each giving you a Gift of Exploration, so you could get one from completing the WvW map, and/or one from completing Tyria’s map.

I think it would help both sides. PvE players who want a legendary weapon could do so without having to clog up WvW, and WvW players could get one from completing that map, thus saving them the long trouble of filling Tyria’s map if they don’t care about that. And those who just want to fill up one or the other don’t have to see an incomplete bar for that map, constantly taunting them, just like that empty chest thing on the login screen used to do.

So…thoughts? Feedback? I’d really like some. You should probably post it in the thread linked at the top there, or they’ll just merge it and it’ll be messy!

Map completion separation (PvE/WvW)

WvW map completion can be done in a few hours on a low population server – with a few friends. No real challenge there compared to PvE Map completion/exploration which is much harder.

Unfortunately I don’t agree with this change.
I do however understand the difficulty of completing WvW Maps to 100% in busy T1 servers – the only workaround here is to wait a week till you change position (colour) and go explore a bit at a time.

What about those who are not on low population servers with no friends? Pretty much the only way if no one helps them out is to wait for the rotation, and even then, there’s a potential chance that there will be certain areas they can still never reach.

PvE map completion (with the exception of possibly the corrupted god temples/statues in Orr) to me isn’t harder, just much longer to finish.

Also, considering all the other things you have to get for a legendary weapon anyway, (some of which being a dungeon gift and obsidian shards which can only be obtained in PvE anyway besides the laurel vendors) it’s not like this change would completely remove the necessity of PvEing—just one long tedious bit.

And unless all the servers in a tier get together and cooperate on this, I don’t think that it could be used to exploit for multiple gifts of exploration quickly anyhow. And the gift itself has no other uses that I know of.

(Besides selling to a vendor for 12.8 silver apiece, but there are much better ways to make in-game money, so who’d do that?)

I think this change would make things better. People who want to complete the map of Tyria just to see it nice and full can do so, and not be looking at a 98% bar, that last bit in WvW mocking them. And WvWers who want a legendary weapon (or just to see the WvW map nice and complete) have a slightly better time about it. I don’t see a downside to it.

1: WvW map completion and PvE map completion separated, with each giving a Gift of Exploration upon completion (as well as a separate completion star for WvW), so that way PvE-er’s don’t have to WvW for map completion (sorta) and WvW-er’s can’t complain that they have to PvE for map completion for the Gift of Exploration.

2: For zergs to go away, along with those jerks who just chase you all around the map when you try to leave a fight when it’s stacked horribly against you. (Never happening, I know.)

3: To be able to get away better from a fight when the odds are stacked against me.

4: Badges of Honor dropping more from those supervisors, more of them from the jumping puzzle chests, and for them to be renamed WvW badges, because you never get them for being honorable anyway.

5: For WvW to be fun. (Oh wait, that’s never happening either.)

Those are my 5 (maybe 6?) things. Although, only 1 and 4 could happen, but they probably won’t.

Map completion separation (PvE/WvW)

An idea I had is to separate WvW maps into their own map completion bar apart from PvE map completion. There could be another icon for showing WvW map completion as well. (A star with the castle icon for WvW, maybe? Eh, might be better ideas)

Completion of either map bar could give a Gift of Exploration for each one. (thus, you could still get a Gift of Exploration even if you don’t do PvE at all, and vice versa for those who don’t WvW.)

Any thoughts?

Yes. Please get rid of that skill. It has almost no use in PvE whatsoever, and in PvP, for reasons already stated, it’s just a ridiculously cheap way to kill an opponent, especially if they’re getting swarmed already. Even as a mesmer, I abhor that trashy skill and never use it. Need a better elite skill anyways…
