Sigh. The recipe for Wizard armor is apparently shared/overriden with Armageddon armor, since now I always get that when I try to make Wizard Armor.

PvP crafting is the one thing I really like about the mode, and they managed to mess it up with RNG.

PvP craft recipes changed/bugged?

Okay, I just tried to make the heavy Koda helm and chest pieces.

According to the wiki, they each require:

- 1 Paid Tornament Token

-1 Arcane Crystal

-5 Arcane Powders

-The respective item token.

Instead, I got a Guild Helmet and Inquest Brestplate, which are supposed to only happen when you use Arcane Slivers, not Crystals. So have the recipes been changed, or is this another bug?

Nilkemia.8507

….Why?

What have Destiny’s Edge, as a group, EVER done of value since the start of GW2?

Nothing.

They nearly get themselves killed in the dungeons, and you go save their kitten and complete whatever goal they had.

Logan nearly dies to cut one kittening rope. Thanks man, it’s not like the airship was loaded with people with large quantities of swords, axes, arrows, magic… just about anything that could be used to cut a rope from the ship… Real important “sacrifice” there.

And then they’re all reunited at the end! Where they sit in the airship like manikins and do kittening nothing at all!

So what have they accomplished in GW2? Whining like 12 year old girls, kittening, whinging, and being generally useless.

So why in the world would we want them back….?

This, basically. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to notice how silly Logan having to stay behind was. “Can’t we just shoot the rope instead?” Plus, it’s pointless since he’s back seemingly unscathed on the second airship we board.

Ultimately though, the real issue is in the availability of the voice actors. The actors that play Logan, Eir, Rytlock, and Caithe seem to be easy to get, but Zojja? It’s pretty clear that Felicia Dey isn’t going to be easy to get a hold of on the off chance that they’ll need her again, at least not for anything short of an expansion.

This too. Even the others might be hard to get since they do voicework for a lot of things already.

Nilkemia.8507

Do we really need them back? Ever since the loss of Snaff and Glint, have they really done anything significant? (Dungeons don’t count, we did all that!)

Logan’s stuck being an ineffective Seraph captain.

Rytlock’s still busy…doing something in his office. I guess.

Eir’s busy trying to forever carve a statue, lamenting on how she’s done nothing worthwhile lately, and wondering why the Living Story writers decided to drop a son on her out of nowhere. (Did I mention Braham being Eir’s son was a stupid idea?)

Zojja’s nowhere to be found, unless you’re playing as an asura character early into their personal story. Likely she decided to have none of this Invasive Weed nonsense and is taking a vacation on the Tarnished Coast until that’s over with.

Caithe’s still being ineffective, sadly. She’s the only one left that doesn’t have something I dislike about her….although that “secret” Ms. Invasive Weed was rambling about might try to change that. Thankfully the writers completely forgot about it…for now.

We need better loot

in The Nightmare Within

Nilkemia.8507

The only part of it that’s good is the Nightmare chambers and maybe the last instance. The rest looks good at first/in concept…but isn’t fun.

-Annoying, constantly respawning enemies, including quite a few veterans/elites usually within the same aggro radius. And a few of them (Assassins, Nimross, and Knights) can just keep layering poison after torment after confusion after cripple upon you..oh, and the elite husks that no one ever fights at the start of Twilight Arbor? They moved here as well. Not fun.

-Roadblock events gating off the levels. If it’s a champion, you can’t do it yourself.

-Mines that take off half your HP when they explode, requiring dodges or constant swiftness to avoid effectively. And sometimes that won’t work with enemies around, so stunbreaks are essential, otherwise one hit with these can just juggle you into another, than another, then..oh wait, you’re dead.

-And on the third floor, a debuff that slowly kills you and can randomly fear you and seemingly remove boons. And all the other bad stuff on top of that.

-No travel golem to the final staircase. No waypoints either. And the golems charge you even more than waypoints to use! Is the Priory really low on funding right now? Why charge me more than a waypoint just to go up? I guess they really don’t want me to stop the tower from spreading evil pollen or whatever.

Sooo…yeah. The Tower looks neat, and the Nightmare chambers are nice fun instances to go into. The rest of the Tower…not really.

Missing Gairwen in Dreamer's Terrace

in Personal Story

Posted by: Nilkemia.8507

Nilkemia.8507

Seems to be either inaccurate wiki data and/or bugs.

-No Gairwen, despite completing the “Where Life Goes” path which is supposed to put her in there, according to the wiki.

-Scholar Octavian Inkblood is there (southeast top “floor”) despite this character running the Vigil invasion path, not the Whisper invasion path which is supposed to spawn him there.

-Carys is in there as well (southern top floor), the wiki doesn’t mention her being there. She was in the Vigil invasion path, so maybe she’s spawned by that?

Everything else seems to fit with the paths I chose according to the wiki data.

Marjory's weapons.

in Lore

Posted by: Nilkemia.8507

Nilkemia.8507

Warning: Wall of text. T.l.d.r. version below.

From what we heard about Mendel in the last couple weeks, I am 90% sure that Marjory found a way to get back in touch with his ghost after the short story we read.

That would work, although it’s never said or implied anywhere that she managed to get back in touch with his spirit. (Whatever spell that "magic-for-hire guy used seemed to be meant to kill ghosts or banish them to the Mists permanently. If she could just contact him again, why didn’t he just kill her too?)

I think you’re being a bit too critical. The weapons may have been passed down to him from someone else, someone who was far more skillful and warranted having legendary/like weapons.

Secondly, who is to say that the ghost boy actually handed the weapons to Marjory? Perhaps he led her to a grave where they were buried, or a tome, or a chest?

The third point relates to the bolded third point that you made. Marjory is not a mesmer; she is a necromancer. The part that you conveniently look over is the fact that necromancers specialize in death magic, communing with the dead, and raising the dead. It does not seem like a leap of faith that Marjory would have some skill with communicating with ghosts. That’s just my take on it though.

The weapons being passed down to Mendel beforehand would make sense..too bad they didn’t bother to say that when making up the short story/weapon story.

Again, them being buried somewhere and having him lead her to them also is a good point…if she managed to get back in contact with him as Aaron Ansari implied.

So far, no source that I know of(in-game or not) has implied such. And if she did get back in contact with him, he’d tell her who killed him, then she could tell us so we could help her….right?

And finally….as I pointed out, she somehow knows his name without him telling her at all. So…she can know the names of the dead she raises without them telling her? Seems more like mind-reading to me there. Something that mesmers do.

Regardless, thanks for the feedback. Those are still good ideas that they could’ve used to flesh out this story. It feels like this should’ve had it’s own Living Story, instead of all that Invasive Weed garbage, or Tequatl becoming less fun.

T.L.D.R? version.

Good ideas, but the story’s still inconsistent as of now. Thanks for feedback though. This should’ve had it’s own Living Story instead of that annoying weed.

Marjory's "Mendel" weapons...

I posted it in the lore forum, but it might also be suited here too. Still, to not repeat myself and to get some feedback (or at least ask if anyone else noticed), I’ll post this here instead.

So…thoughts? Does it bother anyone else? Maybe I’m just being nitpicky…

Marjory's weapons.

in Lore

Posted by: Nilkemia.8507

Nilkemia.8507

So, these were apparently given to Marjory by that ghost boy (entrusted to her, whatever) in her short story…

Except they weren’t. I went back and read that story again. Their conversation was barely such: he had only described what he saw and was about to say who had him killed before being cut off and sent to the Mists.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/marjorys-story-the-last-straw-part-2/

There you can see for yourself…unless they edited it by now or something.

And anyway, saying that these weapons supposedly belonged to “Mendel” just raises more questions instead of answers.

1) So this random dead kid who Marjory’s never met just happens to have a axe and dagger that not only fit Marjory quite well, but also have a design and visual effects almost on par with Ascended/Legendary weapons? Pardon me if my suspension of disbelief is a bit malfunctioning right now. I guess he could’ve been a necromancer as well, but it’s never specified, so…(shrugs)

2) How did he give/entrust the weapons to her? He was dead already! Did he just get them from the Bank in between the Mists and teleport them back to reality where Marjory was?

3) How did Marjory know his name? She’s a necromancer, not a mesmer. Can she read the minds of the dead? If she could figure out his name without being told by him first, then she could just look into his soul or whatever to figure out what he saw and who killed him.

Sigh. Maybe I’m just too critical right now. But these things don’t really make much sense and it bothers me a little.

It also makes me wonder how well the Living Story teams are actually communicating with each other when I’m seeing inconsistencies in the new lore they’re putting in.

And having this “Marjory got these cool weapons from a ghost boy she saw killed” just feels pointlessly tacked on. They could’ve been ancestral weapons like Kasmeer’s staff was, and it would’ve made more sense. Eh..oh well.

The +10% Condition Duration is nice, but I’m not sure if the +100 Power/Precision/Condition Damage is actually better than the percentage increases from the normal consumables. I guess it depends on how your armor is built, so it could go either way..

This year Halloween was a Let Down?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Nilkemia.8507

Nilkemia.8507

Answer: Yes, considering what I read about Halloween last year, it can easily be said that this Halloween was a near complete letdown.

The Bloody Prince was interesting…too bad he gets only two story instances, some dialogue with the Mad King in the Labyrinth, and a short story hidden away on this site. He could’ve also done without the emo-mohawk and face paint(or was it blood?).

While there were some new skins, they were all stuck with the Black Lion Ticket vendor, meaning getting RNG keys to open RNG chests which might have scraps that you need to make tickets to actually get the skin. Or just buy it right off the Trading Post, which might be cheaper in the long run.

Some of the old skins (Greatsaw Chainsword, Grinning Shield, Mad Memories, etc.) didn’t return, and the ones that did (Arachnophobia, Mad Moon, The Crossing) had the amount of Halloween materials need to make them increased, while the drop rate for everything needed was not good enough to make up for the difference.

You now had to either grind the entire event, and/or buy what you needed off the Trading Post, instead of just being able to enjoy the content.

And the Labyrinth is painful without a zerg rush going through, especially if the Horror is running about in there as well.

The only upside was that the Invasive Weed was nowhere to be seen, heard, or mentioned…until the Tower.

Now this will soon be mostly forgotten.

How would it be more interesting? And what’s your problem?

This is the voice I hear when I read your two comments to me:

Well…pardon my implied aggression in those posts. Still, with that dialogue, it seems like they’re quite close. More than friends, but not quite lovers at least. Besides, if they were male, nearly everyone would say “oh yeah, they’re totally gay”.

I shouldn’t get my hopes up though. I suspect the writers will either:

A) Kill one of them off. Probably Kasmeer, since she’s the one trying to be close to Marjory. And if the Invasive Weed (you know the one) has half the intelligence she pretends to have, she’ll have already put Kasmeer on a “to kill” list for breaking the veil.

Which will be bad, as it will just tell me not to care about any of the LS characters, since they might just kill them off just as they get interesting.

B) Pull a bait and switch on us, revealing new male characters that will turn out to be their actual love interests. I’m not sure whether I dislike this or one of them being killed off more.

“Oh, these two characters that seemed to be really close? Sorry, they’re not that close. But now that we got your attention, we’ll just sweep that subtext right under the rug for something else.”

c) Leave it purposefully vague, for people to forever speculate. Meh.

Still, just have to wait and see.

Why does Ventari need to have this magic? The good Sylvari came from the Pale Tree which was nurtured by Ventari. They follow the doctrines of the tablet. How can someone be born to be naturally evil? Even if the Pale Tree was evil Ventari did not need such magic which the Forgotten posses to break it from its will.

So by that logic, I could take some branded eggs away from a nest, incubate them, make a tablet of rules for them, and when they hatch, they would be totally nice and not try to kill me.

The whole “Sylvari are dragon minions” thing has more evidence against it than for it.

A lion will totally betray a human who nurtured it since it was a cub. Yup, gotcha. Well, I guess my pets will betray my family and eat us alive even though we take care of them. I’m probably dead if you are reading this.

If your pet became (or was) a dragon minion, it WOULD betray your family to its master and eat you alive unless specifically commanded to do otherwise by its dragon.

The defining feature of dragon minions is that they are fanatically loyal to their dragon, first, last, and only, and unless their master desires them to be more subtle (and even then the long-term plan is generally destruction), they will by default destroy anything they don’t recognise as being a fellow servant of their master.

We see this in Edge of Destiny. We see a group of dragon minions swarming over and destroying the champion that they had been taking orders from just moments before – because Destiny’s Edge cut off the psychic signal it was projecting identifying it as a dragon minion. We have moments seen from the POV of a recently converted dragon minion, and how all that individuals previous goals and desires have been entirely subsumed by “serve the dragon”.

Being a dragon minion isn’t like being a cat or a lion that can be wild or (semi-)domesticated. if you’re a dragon minion, serving the dragon and destroying all who do not is hard-baked into your very nature. You don’t care how inspiring a philosophy may be – if it doesn’t come from the dragon, it’s just not worth paying attention to.

Freeing a dragon minion from this state requires powerful magic, magic which there is no evidence Ventari had access to.

^ Thanks for explaining it better than I could. I’m tired of that “Sylvari are dragon minions” theory constantly coming back even when there’s enough evidence to suggest otherwise.

A Searing Cauldron would obliterate all of Kessex Hills… and Queensdale, Gendarran, most of Caledon and Brisban, and kill much of the Tengu in the Dominion of the Winds before we get a chance to play as them. Remember the last time it was used it destroyed pretty much the entire country of Ascalon.

Dont think you’d get a clear shot with a Mega Laser either… its in the middle of the zone. Tequatl was shot over the open ocean.

Personally, I say we storm the kitten with a legion of Alpha Seige Golems.

Slight spoilers: When we get to use the cauldron, we manage to keep the collateral damage to just the area we were targeting anyway, implying that either our people using it were far better at controlling it, or didn’t charge the spell enough to blow up an entire continent. Done right, it could just blow up the lake…and since the place is pretty messed up already…

Targeting the Tower with a Megalaser would be even easier, since said tower is a stationary target with no known anti-siege weaponry.

Also, the asuran Vigil Warmasters utilize Alpha Siege Golems and even they say the golems can’t damage the tower. We’d probably need Omega Siege Golems.

Still, the theory of it being defended against such an attack (or capable of reflecting such attacks, because of Ms. Invasive Weed) makes sense, and the concern of it just spreading the spores further.

I just wish they’d actually allow us to ask the NPCs that and have them tell us “We found that it’s protected by a powerful anti-siege field” or something, since it seems the only thing keeping us out is the heavy poison at the base of the tower.

Should I feel bad for not caring? It’s five days away still, when it arguably should’ve been part of the Tower of Nightmares release itself (after finishing the 50 Toxic Spore task, you could then enter the tower or do an extra task/set of tasks to gain entry).

I mean, why not just get a Searing Cauldron (we found one in Orr, and there’s one in Ascalon as a commune point, I think) or build a huge Megalaser to just take out the tower with minimal risk? With any luck, we could take out that invasive weed too while we’re at it.
