All I’m looking for is consistency. Everything else in the game is capped at 5 targets. Most AOE’s are capped. Most abilities are capped. Most heals are capped. Stability is now capped on max charges. I’ve yet to read a single reason why having these GTAOE CC’s that can affect an unlimited number of targets would be a bad thing or inconsistent with the rest of the game.

Not “everything else.” There is a lot of inconsistency with target caps. Reflect abilities have as much potential for their effectiveness, for example. It makes those skills more powerful against larger groups. It makes me wonder if that Revenant skill that grants Stability they showed on Points of Interest will be like Veil.

Why didn’t you ask this before you decided to kick him out? If you actually were remorseful, then why didn’t you reinvite him?

And selling dungeons is not “dodgy.”

Just posting to inform you all that selling dungeon runs its NOT against the rules. People are free to do so. Please, exercise extreme caution to avoid getting scammed.

The only thing “dodgy” is you claiming both innocence and ignorance for kicking someone from a party for no reason.

I was just doing Tequatl and everything was going just fine. We go to finish up the first battery phase and as the timer is almost done, it went back UP and caused north to get destroyed, costing us the entire event. I submitted a bug report but…what the hell

Just to clarify, what do you mean by “it went back UP”? Do you mean the timer was almost done with battery defense, and shortly before Tequatl was supposed to be shot down the battery event restarted?

Any business that has customers telling it exactly what they want from a product and it ignores them, is doomed to failure.

It’s a given that you only like what you know. You would never really know you’d like a first-person portal-based puzzle game (Portal) until Valve created it. Lots of people thought destructible terrain would be fun, and then when it was implemented in Edge of the Mists opinions became more divided. Sometimes even a “good idea” can turn out bad.

This happens when I have it set to Disable Events and Personal Story in my Content Guide options.

Who cares about PvP though. This is WvW and as it stansd WvW is much bigger than PvP. GvG guilds are plenty common but they are spread out through many servers and don’t have access to fight each other, hence the community tends to feel small.

WvW might be bigger than the PvP community, but the PvP community is definitely much larger than the “GvG” community.

The EoTM map that was introduced was, in my opinion, a disaster turned Ktrain that no self respecting WvW player enjoyed. Even now, it remains a Ktain map that guilds only go to when regular WvW is quiet to farm linen from players.

It makes me sad that this is the direction WvW is going in. I know that many of the current WvW players of the game feel as i do and WvW testers would not allow this mode to go through alpha without major changes or objections so my question remains, Where were the WvW testers when this mode was in development?

You do realize that EotM was publicly beta tested, right? Maybe you should do some more fact-checking before you make assertions or complaints.

A non-player character being associated with an objective does not make it PvE. In most PvP game modes, they aren’t all death-match. In fact, death-match is usually the least entertaining. Counter Strike has the bomb to arm or disarm; DoTA has creeps and towers; but these games are undeniably PvP games.

For example: There are complaints about the oasis event. “OMG YOU KILL DINOSAURS AND TURN IT IN!” It sounds like the creatures that carry these objectives are simply there for the initial spawn of the power cores. Players have to risk carrying it and bring it to the objectives themselves, which is just like what you do with a flag in capture the flag – or the Orb of Power we once had in WvW.

Of course, if there are no enemies to fight, then yes it will just be a boring PvE event. However, if there’s no one to fight, then no lack of PvE events will turn an empty map into a thriving PvP one.

The organized death-matches that this community schedules are not WvW, so I’m not really sure why you think that it falls upon the responsibility of the WvW developers to build content for it. What you should really be asking for is for ANet to provide more tools for your community-run events in a much broader sense.

They found more enemies to fight while being on JQ. This might come as a surprise to you, but other guilds aren’t there to please you – especially enemy ones.

What you need to do is destack every of those servers higher than t3.

If you think people go to Tier 1 because they want to win or to “stack”, you’re sorely mistaken. People in Tier 1 for the most part don’t care about winning.

They go there because they want to play WvW – which means enemies need to populate the other two servers as well. It’s very rare that queues even exist in Tier 1 except for reset night and a few hours during the weekend.

If we took the population of all of WvW and spread them evenly among the servers, we’d have a very, very empty WvW. Not enough participate in it anymore, and haven’t for a while. I’m sure you’d know that if you actually played though.

If you find yourself the target of this kind of behavior, the best advice I can give is to not get angry because it just makes you lose sympathy from the other party members. Kicking requires 3/5 of the players to agree, so you just have to have two people disagree with the decision.

I'm Sorry About Copper

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nokaru.7831

Nokaru.7831

No No No. Do not tell people its ok to AoE at copper. If you tell people its ok to AoE, people are going to AoE at copper. While I am happy to hear there is a better way to do it, and I will certainly change what I do going forward. To tell people its ok to AoE as long as its on bubbles is not the right answer. AoE is not a finely tuned, tight area of burst focus damage.

If the bubble is near Copper, then it’s going to heal him anyways.

Maybe you should learn how the boss works before you tell people what to do.

The most important thing to tell people isn’t “NO AOE” but actually tell them to keep Poison on him the whole time.

I never saw copper fail in the early days before people “knew better”

Exactly this. Before everyone was yelling “NO AOE!!!! ELEMENTALISTS SPAM EARTH 1!!!”, Copper would always die and it was Gold and Silver that failed constantly. After players “got better” at the Silverwastes, it was Copper that kept failing.

We have all the “NO AOE”-know-it-alls to thank for that.

Bottom Line of Vinewrath isn't opening

Time: 7:30 AM Server
Map IP: 64.25.38.201:0

  • At the start of the Vinewrath encounter, the Southern Lane’s final Vine Wall had the [Reinforced Shield] buff on it. As you can see in the screenshot, this occurred in the lane scheduled to go in. (As indicated by the icon on the mini-map) This blocked our progress and forced us to let all the carriers die and fail.

Next Attempt:

  • I don’t know if this helps, but the next time Vinewrath spawned on this map (64.25.38.201:0), the bug did not occur.

Possible Causes?

  • Does the previous Vine Wrath state affect the next one?
    • Which lane was active when they defeated the Vine Wrath?
    • Which lane was active when they were defeated by the Vine Wrath?
      • Which boss were they fighting?

Guild Wars 2 issues with combat mechanics

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nokaru.7831

Nokaru.7831

So… I jumped to FF14 for a while. Hopefully I can someday find that GW2 has changed to become a real strategy game that doesn’t involve exploiting enemy AI and defining the correct way to play as ZERKER only. Until then, I can only do my dailies…

There’s plenty of “AI Abuse” or unintended ways of playing in Final Fantasy XIV. Either you’re ignorant of them, or you’re hoping others are.

Why is there no ANet presence in this forum?

in WvW

Posted by: Nokaru.7831

Nokaru.7831

When the map was released (with the changes made due to feedback) people raged like mad about how that was not what they wanted at all and that it was the worst thing ever and that ArenaNet are useless and can’t do anything at all right. Despite them doing exactly what people in the beta said.

Maybe you should hide your obvious and glaring bias against WvW a little bit better if you want to pretend that you have anything useful to say. People raged more about the New Player Experience and the Trait changes (and they still do) than anything about EotM.

Yes, people “raged” about EotM, but it was constructive things like fixing the unbalanced nature of how Green had an advantage for months after the launch of EotM, or fixing glaring balance issues of the asymmetrical nature of the map. None of which have been addressed, by the way.

Any ETA on Fractal Leaderboards?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nokaru.7831

Nokaru.7831

Fractals were advertised as an unlimited dungeon.

You know, technically speaking you could go beyond level 81 in Fractals… Your progress just wasn’t saved. I don’t know of anyone who stayed logged in long enough to see past 84 though.

Also, you still are ignoring the point that people bypassed agony legitimately without using revive orbs.

Well, the methods to bypass Agony were:

  • The rock.
  • Ranger pet. (“Search and Rescue!”)
  • The 99% strategy.
  • Revive Orbs.

There was no other way, and none of them were really legitimate. However, it was fair game since the agony ticked for 1172% of your health per second in a deliberate attempt to halt progress. They could have gradually increased the Agony damage instead and have the dungeon naturally block players due to gear, but.. Nah! Whatever! Just slam two 1’s in front of 72%!

Also, many competitive guilds refrain from using exploits such as stacking and using fiery greatswords.

Fiery Rush was nerfed over four months ago. Link

Fiery Rush no longer generates fire fields if the character’s position does not change significantly (for example, running against a wall).
The number of fire fields created by this skill has been reduced by 50%.
Reduced damage of fire fields by 70%.
This skill now ignores the movement penalties from chilled and crippled conditions.
Increased damage of the leap attack by 140%.

Retaliation is not up 24/7 like people insist except in the most organized of groups. Otherwise, there are always people without. Find them, target them, kill them. Don’t want to take the time to find those that don’t have Retaliation, but want to spam AoE anyway? Your fault.

Things don’t really work that way in Tier 1.

Forum specialists

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nokaru.7831

Making the “Forum Specialists” have something unique to make them stand out on the forums is just going to cause a conflict of interest. On Battle.Net, the MVPs there (essentially Forum Specialists) have their post text in green instead of blue, making them stand out. Thus, some players want to become MVPs just to get the green text; not to actually be helpful.

It also makes them very big targets.

Wave of wrath and retaliation.

in WvW

Yes, coordinated Null Fields and Necromancer Wells might remove Retaliation. Briefly. Good thing an uncoordinated blob of Guardians can just spam “Stand Your Ground!” while auto-attacking with Wave of Wrath and be just fine 99.9% of the time.

I’m sure you’ll have some impressive justifications for how Retaliation also makes it beneficial for zergs to just mindlessly attack through Feedback and other projectile reflection fields since it usually downs the player who cast it; instead of, you know, the players mindlessly attacking through the reflect field.

A Data Driven Approach to Dungeon Rewards

Nokaru.7831

They didn’t even bother adding new daily dungeon rewards. I doubt they’ll do anything with them.

Negativity aside, I think the best system would simply be one that worked like ArcheAge’s trade routes. Trade routes provided a bonus reward, ranging between 70% to 130%. The more a route is run, the more that bonus is decreased which naturally would lead to riskier and more time-consuming paths providing the biggest gain.

Wave of wrath and retaliation.

You can Condition remove Confusion. Also, you can see when you have Confusion on you.

“But wait! Retaliation is a Boon! You can remove it that way, right?” Good luck identifying who has Retaliation in a blob and who doesn’t in order to do just that.

This means you have to not attack while using weapons (or builds) that punish Retaliation, because you have to assume it’s always there against a blob. And that is stupid.
