What's bad about the Necro? PVE

Not sure if it was mentioned, but our poor access to stability, and no invulnerability skill is also a problem. Lots of bosses in PVE have massive attacks, that can sometimes one-hit KO a character. Almost all of the classes have access to either block, invulnerability, or evade. Necromancers have Death Shroud, which doesn’t scale with the damage taken. If you take a truck load of damage, it spills into your actual healthpool, and you’re dead. This didn’t used to be this way, but they removed the ability to absorb one-hit kills, leaving us as the only class I think that cannot do this.

Why did they do this? Because the devs are insane? I do not know. I really don’t know what the game designers are thinking. Our class is such a mess.

Oh, and our downed skills are rubbish too. A downed necro, is a dead necro. We don’t have skills to teleport away, or revive ourselves, unlike some other classes.

These One Hit Wonder Bosses are just a fantasy. They actually don´t exist. Not even in fotm lvl 50. U can even tank Crushers smash with enough defense stacking.

No active defense and/or no endurance gain except sigil of energy is a problem. Sigil of Energy is usually a “must have” that means necros will lose another 5-10% dmg compared to other classes.

Defensive Support and CC can also help.
HotW or Fractals for example.

Bosses have alot live and do good dmg. But even there Necromancers don´t shine.

They have frost, but they lose alot of dps to bring “permafrost”. They have only 1 bad source of protecion for allies. And Condi/Boon switch is on extremly long cooldowns.

Another problem is the lack of a real waeponchoice. Diffrent weapons can give u (or your party) diffrent advantages for diffrent situations.

For example a guardian.
Hammer>nearly same dps then GS but permaprot for the party, awesome in HotW and fractals.

GS>usually the meta weapon, pull, blind, “aoe burst”.

sword/focus>for blind/blocks and more dps in rotations

mace/focus>only less then 1% lower dps then sw/f but heal+block+reg for allies. This can help for runes of sholar buff or the squishy elementlists in your party. Good for fractals for example.

Scepter>long range and rly high dps vs targets with big hitboxes (best dps guardian weapon if the target is big enough and doesn´t move).

Necromancers have…..

Dagger…..a little bit heal for u but rly low dps on this skill. A singeletarget root.
WH…a little bit more dmg and 1 cc….
Focus…a little bit Vul (not even perma because of – 50% vulduration bosses have)

Yeah..that´s it. Boring to play, and not rly usefull.
I rly like my necromancer. But i can´t play her 1000+hours like my guardian or warrior. Just because it´s to boring to use the same MH weapon 99% of the time in both weaponsets….

Nemesis Hybrid was never rly good and it did never “excellent dmg”. It was only “ok”.

If u rly want to play Hybrid, use Dagger Staff or Dagger/Scepter. But it is still worse then Berserker for dps (but more defensiv stats if u use celestial).
To make hybridbuilds “viable” we will need a better statcombination then rampager, with power or conditiondmg as mainstat.

Necro is not focused on conditions. Every class (except guard) is focused on both. Direct and condition dmg.

Necromancer problems are missing, or not needed support. Or just hard to use (because of high cooldowns).
Controll is ok, CC is pretty strong in dungeons/fractals. Longer CC (in PvE only) could help necros too.

I have never logged off my necromancer and hopped on another class, and I’ve done all the dungeon content in the game. The PvE in this game is way, way too easy for people to be so anal about it.

I think necromancer is underrated in dungeons, to be honest. Yes, we have absolutely no utility. But with dagger auto-attack and Lich Form, we probably have the highest single-target DPS in this game. (At least, once Fiery Greatsword and Lich Form’s scaling are fixed next patch.) In most MMOs I’ve played, that would be reason enough to take someone. I have no idea why in this game it’s assumed that every group slot needs to have some sort of unique utility, especially when most pick-up groups end up failing that standard anyway by taking way too many warriors, which don’t even do impressive DPS in the grand scheme of things.

Necro is not even close to best singel target dps ingame.

Aegis and/or Daze on Shield 4 would be awesome.
Skill 5 should be something likes Braum´s W from Leage of Legends…a jump in front of an allie to protect him/her!
Would fit the guardian class, and makes the shield viable.

I use minions only for Solo Open Wolrd PvE but they suck even there. Because of this problem.
There is a chance of 50% that mobs die before minions start to attack….

After 2 years, basic game mechanics should work!

For PvE just use Spoj´s guide.

Scepter does rly low direct dmg. With staff d/d and the right rotation u have more then 15 bleeds on both weaponssets (average, 20-25 are possibel), and superior direct dmg on both sets.

I just calculated the possible avg stacks on D/D + Staff and it’s theoretically possible with the right cooldown reductions, enough Condi duration and sigil of earth to get to 15 Bleeds. I’m not sure how likely it is, but i stand corrected on this one.

Scepter will (rightfully) never reach dagger lvls of direct damage, but it isn’t that shabby. I tested it for another thread and it wasn’t too much behind the axe in a full power build. However it was far better than the staff in the same situation. now account for the much better and more consistent bleed stacking on it and it massively outdamages a staff in a hybrid build.
I’d try to make a comparison of hybrid dagger vs. scepter on the golems, but imo Hybrid doesn’t work too well in the mists due to being forced into (suboptimal) Stats.

In terms of dps, ele, thief, and mesmer with 3 phantasms up are top damage. Unless you listen to guang, in which case engineer is the only class worth playing.

Mesmer dps is bad. If u don´t need a portaltrick to speed a dungeon up, it´s better to not use a mesmer.

warrior (1)/guard(1)/thief/ele (as much as possibel) are usually used for farmruns.

IMO if you’re not using scepter in a hybrid build you are better off just going for power. scepter/dagger stacks by far the most bleeds. without it any condition damage is wasted and could have been better put into pow/prec/fer. if you just wanna use terror/dhuumfire you should just stick to their base damage and what you get from curses (will probably be less effective than power traits).

In your opinion, what Necro build (P or H) is better with each of the following:
(Feel free to answer each individual category or give a rundown as a whole)

Short fight single target dps (standard mobs): Power

Short fight AoE dps: Power

Long fight single target dps: Power

Long fight AoE dps: doesn´t exist in this game

Higher survivability: power (celestial is not used for dps), but DS on cd (weakening shroud, dark path and skill 5) is more important for hybrid dps then for a powernecro
And both are melee (staff + d/d) hybrid. Axe/scepter is not rly a viable build.

Generally more useful in dungeons: Power

Generally more useful in fractals: Power

More accepted for group play (relates to last 2): Power

More respected by community: People who rly know the game and necros don´t want necros at all (or at least a powernec) . Others don´t want necros anyway.

WvW roaming and skirmishing: both viable, but hybrids will use other gear here.

Generally easier to play: hard > staff d/d hybrid > power d/f d/wh > axe/scepter hybrid

(Complete opinion) More fun to play: power > staff d/d hybrid, i don´t play axe/scepter


I am well aware that many of these are slightly unanswerable and some of them sound like the same question reworded. I apologize for these mistakes as I was somewhat unsure of what I was missing.

So I watched the swamp fractal and:

1. On bloomhunger you didn’t reflect anything despite being a mesmer
2. On Mossman you again didn’t reflect anything despite being a mesmer
3. You used null field and blink on your bar for no reason
4. You did not have a single mantra on your bar – so no damage modifiers from empowering mantras.

They used a mesmer………..who founds the mistake?

Let´s facetank everything! Because clever use of skills must be an exploit!

Pls Anet don´t try to balance it, just remove it.

Aegis, Blocks, Blind, Weakness and Chill Vigor an Endurance, remove it all!
Because it´s not challenging it´s an exploit. We have to stack healpower and thoughness, that´s the only way to make funny and challenging content!

If your burning does 600 dmg (per tick) u did something wrong.

In PvE guardians need only about ~ 15% UC/Aegis uptime to deal more dps then warriors (with only 7 ww and 1 binding blade hits).
Scepter on big target does always more.

In WvW guards can play more offensive then warriors thanks to AH, and deal more dmg aswell.

If the elementalists are holding theirs staff up in the air. U can dogde to evade the 1hit lavafont/meteors.
Usually they are all casting it at the same time. So it´s not that hard to do the fractal even at lvl 49 without a wipe, and without the npcs.

It´s just annoying and not rly funny at the beginning battle field. A change here would be welcome.

Hammerstun (Yeah, i mean Warrior F1)/Protection/Blindspam/Weakness are helping too.

Prenerf (daily chests) it was not soo bad to farm this path. But at all…doing arah/other dungeons fast for the daily rewards is much more rewarding. But probably to difficult for this kind of people.

U don´t even need fullsoldiers.

Half soldier/berserker is pretty defensive for a frontline necromancer.
Full sentinels is being completly useless.

Not only enemys can rally, your mates too. And todo this, they need your (or everyones) maximum possibel (from a raid vs raid PoV, i don´t mean glasscanonbuilds) dmg/support.
This is how to min/max wvw builds. Sentinels has no place in this game.

Celestial is not the best.

Celestial direct dmg dps<soldier direct dps

min/maxing D/D (for a wvw guildraid vs blop) point of view means.

Full celestial vs Pvt armor, Pvt/zealot´s trinkets = ab bit more dmg for Pvt+zealot´s, but more healpower for a celestial build.

If i don´t need more defense>Pvt/zealot´s is better. If i need more dmg Pvt+berserker is better.
If i rly need the HEALpower + “nearly” the same defensive, celestial is better.

If we are fair……celestial is in 90% of all situations, not needed. Not better. Or even worse.
In about 10% of all situations it can (does not mean “it is”) better or equal.

Btw. celestial condidmg is included, when im writing about celestial vs soldier/mixed dps-

Just play Berserker, stack in a corner and push the 1.

Most people are saying that it work´s, so it must be true. Because stacking/melee/zerker is an exploit!
Dungeons can´t be hard this way!

Well. Ok without a joke.

For me, the open world is nothing.
It doesn´t matter how u play… how anyone plays. U can just stay at range and use skill 1 and u will finish the event.
Everyone is just trying to tag as much mobs as possibel. This is not teamplay. It is pvp.
Rly aweful design in my eyes.
Three headed wurm/tequatl are the only ecxeptions at the moment.

It´s better to play offensive traits with defensive gear. The problem is, this build does not have support.
Spoj´s build can support the party (from a necromancers point of view^^) very well.

Stealing/converting more boons, more weakness/chill. Longer Vulnerability duration. Free Utilityskills (blind/condiremove/boonremove/weakness), or even protection/stun breakers and so on.

If my party is rly bad, and if im lazy. I would use a more heal support based build like x/x/x/2(x)/6, with a little bit defensive gear. My soldiers WvsW amor for example (and berserker trinkets).

Really IMO the issue with GW2 PvE is that the content is too easy. Most enemies are giant meatbags which one or two shot players (making Zerker so attractive) .

That´s simply not true. There is not even one boss in the game who can 1 or 2 shot a realy tanky party.
That means right build, gear and partysetup. U can facetank everything. Probably except fotm 40+.

LoS is used because u can´t tank in this game.
U need something to controll the mobs, and stack boons/other support.

Even a “tanky” gruop, with the goal to do a dungeon as easy as possibel will use LoS to share they´re defensive support (like protection from a guardians hammer for example).

They have to change all bosses/mobs. Mobs shouldn´t get pushed back while attacking them (Subject Alpha as example, i use LoS because it sucks when alpha is pushed like hell). And bosses need a fix place(movement area). Special attacks, some versus ranged players, other against melees.

But not the same 1-2 attacks which can both hit melees and nothing vs ranged like most bosses in this game.
Players shouldn´t push a boss, the boss should push the players^^.

Before they don´t do this, PvE will never be more then now.

Axe is extremely useful for me in gvgs. Best single target burst we have outside of lifeblast. Get a good build, you’ll love your axe.

LoL, the only reason why axe is used in gvg is. Skill 3, AoE and retalation, because the necromancer has nothing else beside this. (Cause melee is to risky)

Singeltarget burst in focus 4/dagger 1. Axe 2 is NOT a “burstskill”, it´s a channeld medium/low dps skill.

Most bosses have only 1-2attacks, usually all can hit melees (stacking players) and 0-1 can hit ranged guys.

Before u can fix stacking. U should make real encounters.

Fractals are the only content in the game which reqiures asc items (especially if they will inrease max lvl in future again), but u get only the stupid ascended fragments.

The easiest and most brain AFK content in the game (open world bosses, stay at range and press 11111111) and u will get tons of dragonit ore……

gw2esp is more than a dps meter. I can usually tell what an ele is running based on how they do on the burrows.

If they cast bow4 and just walk away zerkers. they hang around- not zerkers.

less dmg multiplier build + fullzerk = slow burrows. (and low dps, even vs critable enemys)

So it won´t help u.

I wanted some fancy insulting, but i have a serious question instead.
Why you favour your own build instead of the accepted meta builds? Including berserker gear ofc.

Because the game is fun when we have several builds, and we actually PLAY the game, not fast-run towards all content and then complain this game do not have enough content. O.o

There are diffrent playstiles. Tanky builds work well with other tanky builds.
But a tanky build will not help a zerker gruop.
A “dead” zerker will not help a tanky party.

The only logical solution is to look out for people who enjoy the same playstile like u.

Elitism is not a problem, the problem is that people can´t even unterstand a single sentence posted in the lfg tool.

It´s the same like a zerker is joining a “chilled run, heal/tanky people welcome” party.
Probably they will kick him/her, just because they want to use another playstile.

Nothing special. I don´t like these kind of build. They do low dmg, and u don´t have a huge spike. And that´s what necros are used for.

You can´t help others just be being ultra tanky. Selfish builds re the reason why good 25guild raids can easily wipe out 40+ rnd zergs.

Try something like this. It can help others, and it will do more dmg.

Still a bad trait. A power (dps) traitline should increase dps. 5 or 10% more dmg vs foes without a boon would be awesome.
Way better then this. A DPS Traitline Minor shouldn´t trigger if u are close to death. And it will not give u any benefit while fullbuffed.
Or if u don´t have any hardhitters (because the fight is nearly over and most skills are on cooldowns, that´s why u dropped such low).

Even heal if u get struck would be better.

How would you feel if ANet specifically and intentionally nerfed zerk builds in PvE so that more armor, health, defense, healing, CC, etc. was required? Would it make the game better or worse in your view?

It will change nothing, because u don´t understand basic gameplay mechanics in this trinity less (that means special reqiured roles less) game.

Make an own lfg “chilled run, tanky people welcome” and be happy.

Without aftercast DWA would be a 10% dps increase.
The reason why it is only a ~ 8,x% increase is simple.

All the people here are not excluding aftercast, they included it. So they don´t missed the most important point.

Your whole argumentation (warlord) is completly nonsense.

If things die 8.x% faster, they die 8,x% faster. Aftercast or not, the dead don´t care.

Aetherpath is pretty easy can be done in under 20 minutes. My dailyruns take about 20-30 minutes and we don´t hurry up or min/maxing our setups.

Nice done anyway. But it´s still possibel to do it a little bit faster.

That was an exploit, so Anet silently removed it. They don’t like to inform people about these kind of stuff.

But they don´t fix the underwater/diving glitches….

Have you actually ran the build you listed ?

Because, the exotic cavalier ring seems out of place and I didn’t think it was possible to have two beserker earrings with the same WvW infusion in them. One would have to have a defensive infusion slot.

U can run Cavaliers too, but Power is a strong Mainstat. Probably u should switch the runes, wurm were better pre patch (without additional vitality).
I run cavaliers, but the min/maxed Pvt/Zerk builds is saw, looked a bit better (prepatch!).

Try the same with a real build. Forget the Conditionguardian. It will never be strong.

Are there any AOE heavy WvW builds ?

This is a Wellspike build. Usually much stronger then these selfish Blood/Deathmagic Tankybuilds with Zero dmg output.

Unskippable videos (like TA etherblade for example) are rly an issue.
They should fix it!
I don´t want to watch the same boring video 1000 of times. Especially if i don´t get any useful loot for it!
