Remove energy cost from weapon skills

Out of all current meta rotations, condi rev is the worst and most boring. And they only reason why, are the energy costs of the weapon skills.
We have so many cool and strong utilitys, but the only 2 we use are mallyx elite and vengful hammers…..because we have to spend all energy for our weapon skills.

In my opinion the bleeding should get replaced by torment, and it needs some chill or at least poison.

No..no..no…we need the bleeds from a pve standpoint to be more viable as torment is crap in raids really but on your other points, yea, ditto.

Doesn´t matter, cause u will use M/A i raids, the bow dps is lower. So we have a new weapon, but no synergys with our old weapon and traits.

And thats the biggest rev problem.

1 Legend+1 Weapon+1 Gear, but we can use 2 Legends and 2 weapons and we like to swap both.

Out from all other new specs i like kalla the most, by far. Coolest design and idea behind it in my opinion. (Even if i don´t understand why she gets a bow and not a greatsword.)

Guards got mantras and a horribel boring new weapon what does nothing new.

Necromancers got only an offhand an still us the same condi MH which they are using since release.

Thief is lol, funny but thats all, look incridible boring to me.

Engi is op but rly, an engineer with a sword? It looks abit like star trek i don´t get the point out of it.

Ranger without a pet…..it´s famous theses days all “mmos” are bringing this out…..but well no comment.

I like Kalla the most, but the energy costs destroy it. 2 Skills and u are out of energy even it would be balanced, it does not make any fun to use only 3 skills in 10 seconds.

I miss synergie between Mallys and Kalla, i want to switch as often as possibel between them and i want to use the utilitys for dps aswell (cause thats revs special thing).

And the shortbow looks abit weak to me, low dps and zero synergie with mallys traitline. But the skills itself are looking great and are fun to play, but again. The energy costs are to high.
In my opinion the bleeding should get replaced by torment, and it needs some chill or at least poison.

Rev should be more like a thief low/now cd and balanced around energy.

Rev is OK for solo pve.
But if u play in any party that can provide most of the important buffs (not all, most is enough) then rev is the worst class in pve.

The dps is rly low (both, power and condi) and other classes can provide more/easier buffs while doing more dps aswell.

Condirev is worse then every other class in pve. And power is not much better.

I was so hyped with HoT and played 300hours on my rev in 2 month without playing any other class in that time.
But today? I complete the map with her cause she is close to 100%, for everything else the other classes are so much better….Power dps? I play engi, condi? ranger. Easy fractals? Guard….and so on.

I don´t think its newbie friendly, because its very special.
Newbies wont learn to dogde neither to spend energy for defensive abilitys like sword 3.

Better they should get the cheapest “semi-meta” gear like knights, or even soldier amor (and zerkers trinkets), and learn to play the class.
Dogde, destroy breakbars, learn to time avoidence abilitys.

By using all skills, not just sword 1 and impossibel odds.

So i would say, it´s a more a funbuild for open world when u want to try something new, and enjoy open world with chilled (easier/less actiongameplay) playstyle.

Vul is never a problem on champions. So it´s no support.

And the thing is, if u are only exploring. U spend most of the time running from enemy to enemy.
If u are doing this your boons will expire, And after u attacked the next victim, u need time to stack your might up.
Might that will expire again….

So what u want is to say spend a few hundred gold into gear thats only useful for one thing.
Mediocore dps, brain afk solo pve.? Is a good idea?

I don´t think so.

It´s much easier and cheaper to use a Zerkersbuild (probably with and exotic knights armor and cheap runes) an just use some more defensive traits (that Shiro LL GM trait for example, works extremly well with Sword 3). And use Lifeleech food (which is cheap, what´s good for exploring).

Knights armor is easy to get, and offers by far enough thoughness.

Fact is, it´s completly impossibel to deal high dps while being tanky.
U can use whatever u want for your build, but each point in vita/thoughness/boon duration/healpower reduces your dmg.

U can´t compensate it in no way, cause everything u use for that compensation can be used by zerkers/sinisters/vipers to increase their already higher dps even more.

U can be tanky, or do high dps. But u can never do both at the same time!

Your build can´t compare to zerkers dps. Its not even close. The dmg output is low.
U can´t use power as a single stat to compare the dps of builds.

U are losing so much dmg…alot critical dmg, runes, sigils and more. Using all your energy for impossible odds means that u lose dps aswell.
Skill 2 is important for dps, not using it (u can´t because of the energy problem) is dps loss.

Your builds is doing lower dps then a heal druid.

Oh and your food….it´s expensive, and u lose even more dps (power/prec/critdmg).

I agree with the first 2 posts, and disagree with all who think that staff doesn´t need equal dmg to sword.

Without same dmg it will never be an viable (non niche) weapon.

Watching WP’s recent video about new races really made me crystallize some thoughts that I’ve had for a long time.

The game is struggling with the production of cosmetic items and one of the main reasons is the fact that it has too many races.
The main culprits here are the Charr – but every race’s particularities have some part in slowing down the process of creating new armor.
This is a problem because armor and cosmetics are the primary driving force that keeps people going in GW2. It’s not gear grild – it’s skin grind – and we’ve got very very little skins.

The game released with a good abundance of skins – but ever since we’ve had too little come into the game either through the gem store or other means.

That aside I also feel the story could have been much more interesting, focused and well written if they didn’t have to write a neutral 5-race story and by doing so distanced themselves quite a lot from the franchise’s original lore and setting.

I don’t hate the non-human races – In fact they could have had just as much story and lore expanding their stories in the game but the only playable race should have been limited to humans – for practical reasons.
Humans are already the most popular race in-game and were so even close after launch.

I’m actually curious how others feel. Do you like the fact that we have 4 other races even if it means we get armor very very very rarely? Do you think it was worth it?

The main reason why i bought GW2 were the charr and norn. Without them i had never bought the game.

You can design feminine armor without breasts which I am sure you are aware. Anet just does not have the ability or skill to do so, so they just take the easy route and give asura male versions alot of the time.

Anet certainly has the skill, I’m confident in that. I just wish they would spend more effort on charr and asura females.

Adapt the armor to still look feminine on charr and asura. Perhaps substitute the top for a chest wrap or something.

I know they can. They just don’t, and it’s a real shame. It was Anet’s design to make the charr and asura a playable race, they should at least make the effort to better adapt feminine armor for them without going the “let’s just give them the male version” route.

Yeah, they spend all the ressources to create new Gemshop sets every 2weeks.

It´s a shame that the LEGENDARY armor is not culturally adapted. Sylvari suffer from this aswell. I not the only one who think that sylvari look silly in cloth/leather or platearmor.
Real sylvari fans have only 4 or 5 armorsets to chose from.

At least this, most expensive, most time soaking, and most prestige armor in the whole game should be changed.

Thanks for voting and commenting. We’ve read through everything you’ve posted here.

Among people who expressed a clear preference for one of the options, about 230 people prefer to make the change, versus about 40 who prefer to leave it as is. We’ll make the change.

We’re also going to work on cleaning up the Charr tail clipping. And then our focus has to be on shipping the full legendary set.

Sad to see how uncharr or how unnorn these armors look.

Is there any chance that we can see cultural based legendary amors? I don´t play humans, so i have no reason to build that amor. Because both versions look silly on Norn and Charr.

But u rly wanted this or? Now u can go the easiest way, and when people in future will ask for more adapted armors u can point on this thread…….

I think the most important fixes to guardian right now should be decided upon based on both how many players the changes will affect as well as the simplicity of implementing said changes. As such, reworks of entire skills and traitlines should come later on when more of the dev team is free.

Considering the above points, the first thing that should be addressed is our weapon movesets. Many weapon skills seem to lag behind weapons of other classes and feel old/outdated. In particular:

Sword: too much counter play for this weapon. The 3rd sword auto should NOT be a projectile, and sword 3 should either not root us, or give some additional benefit. The projectile speed should be increased heavily. Sword also needs a symbol.

Mace: 3rd auto attack should cleave, mace 2 is far too slow for such a weak effect. The regen should apply 3sec of boon like symbol of energy or swiftness. Mace 2 should also apply damage for landing the strike like the 3rd hammer auto. Mace 3 is probably the worst block-then-effect skill in the game at the moment. It only blocks a single attack before activating, can be activated off a ranged attack, can’t be activated by pressing 3 again, provides very little duration of protection and its damage to cooldown ratio is mediocre.

Scepter: needs a little love. Gives very little protection, control or otherwise helpful skills and is pretty much just a medium-low damage mid-ranged weapon.Also, scepter 2 should be a symbol even if this means nerfing the cooldown.

Hammer: speed up hammer auto chain but take a tick off of the symbol. This would keep dps the same but make the chain more reliable in pvp. Hammer 3, 4 and 5 should all have their cooldown reduced. Hammer 3’s projectile speed should be increased as it’s already a huge telegraph. Hammer 4 should be quicker and be able to hit 3 targets. Hammer 5 should not root the guardian.

Staff: alright weapon. Staff 2 needs a lot of love though. As it is now, it is a very unreliable way of either dealing damage or healing allies. Buff the effect of detonating the orb such as adding a boon, blinding foes or increasing healing done to allies.

Greatsword: fair weapon. Might duration on 3rd GS auto should be increased a bit. The retaliation on symbol 4 should be a 3 second application like symbol of swiftness’ or energy’s boons are. The projectile speed on GS 5 should be increased.

Focus: very solid offhand. Buffing the projectile speed on 4 should be done though considering how much more projectile hate was introduced into the game.

Shield: i actually think it’s in a pretty good spot now. Shield 4 could use a small damage buff. My biggest problem is actually the trait. It should do something else in my opinion. Literally anything else; adding toughness is redundant.

Torch: needs love for both skills. Torch 5 especially, it’s a poor skill. It should offer more benefit to the guardian since it is essentially a low-damage channel. Torch 5 could also do well to have some burning attached to it. Torch 4 is alright, but the projectile could really use piercing attached to it as most torch burning skills on other classes are capable of hitting multiple targets. Ours technically can, (if you stand next to them) but this is a poor way to apply aoe burn.

Longbow: great ranged weapon, but needs a tad bit of love. LB 2 should either not root or should offer some additional benefit. LB 5’s wards should affect all targets, not just the one that got hit by the final attack. It’s already bad enough that the wards can be avoided by simply dodging the final impact.

I think some or all of these changes are quite easy to implement and would positively impact the largest amount of players. This would be a first great step towards revitalizing guardian and increasing build diversity.

I like most of your ideas.
But just 3 points.

1. Staff, i don´t think that staff is a good, fun or a viable weapon. To be honest u have only 3 uses for it.
Swiftness and Empower in wvw zergs, the line of warden in wvw and pve farmtrains.

But it is never usefull in combat itself, that´s rly bad design in my opinion. So i think the guardianstaff needs the biggest rework of all weapons ingame.

2. Shield u´re right but i´d like to see a small change to shield 5 aswell, probably to make it like DH F3. Or a nice dmgburst because the cd is rly high and it should be a awesome feeling ability.

3, Longbow i think they should buff its dmg in pve(only pve) again, do bring it back as a viable weapon for rotations.

I like the scepter. I like that I can keep 18-22 stacks of might up at all times w/o runes and sigils.

Also, Orb does home slightly. I agree that more would be nice.

But, you’re talking PvP, and I’m PvE, so most of my points are inapplicable to your concerns.

Fractal Tonic Realistically Unobtainable

99.9% of the ‘value’ of the tonic is that it’s “unrealistically unobtainable” — if it dropped often enough for most fractal regulars to get it, it would mostly sit in people’s banks/storage toons, like any other tonic. Sure, the animations seem cool today, but then so did the forms of a lot of other (now common) tonics.

tl;dr be careful what you wish for — “somewhat reasonable” drop rates are for things that have their own inherent value.

I agree with that. But i got one at the first lvl 50 fotm i made after the fractal patch…..that was 2 years ago.

And how often do i use it? Once in a month?

Pls never change base HP. Guardian´s don´t need it, they avoid dmg with their magic abilitys, that must be improved. And that´s they key gameplay of this class.

I don´t want to play a stupid “blue shining” warrior(tank) who is facetanking everything because he got too much hits on head as a child.

We protect others (and ourselfs) with our powers, that´s why we are guardians.
Guardian=/=facetank

If u improve base HP, there would be no space to fix any other of the many issues, because we would be too strong then. Especially in pvp.

Never think about changing base HP! We do not need it, and it does not fit the gameplay of this class.

But i have 10 other points that should be improved.

1. make it so that passiv F1-F3 effects aren´t disabled after them. And make them stronger, DH simply outclasses basic guardian in all ways, even if u don´t want to use the bow and traps.

2. Rework staff to a usefull weapon for combat outside of farming, probably support/condi hybrid midrange weapon.

3. Rework Torch 5 (very important), probably to a conditiondmg based ability. Its the worst weapon skill ingame, the only one which is NEVER useful. Change torch 4 buff to not be removed when u throw the torch.

4. Add some dmg to sword 3 (to make it a usefull dps ability, aa spamming weapons are boring).

5. Rework Scepter into anything more useful, probably to a conditiondmg based MH(cause we need it for condibuilds).

6. Switch some dmg from Hammer aa3 to hammer 2 (same reason as point 4)

7. Rework/buff some of the weaker trait/lines (radiance should be a viable condition based traitline for example)

8. Shouts seem to be a bit to weak for their very high cds. Besides wvw condicleansebuilds via runes they aren´t useful. (Utiliys should not need a specific rune to make them viable!)

9. Alot of guardians utilitys have extremly long cds, that makes the class feel more passive then it should be.

10. Rework Spirit Weapons, they where one of the main reasony why i decided to play guardian at launch. But i could never use them in a viable (useful) build.

1. I don´t care about pvp. dps=damage per second, and its useful in pve, not pvp.
2. I play Hammer in pvp, and prefer it over s/f or gs.

For pve balance, there are alot of other things to do.
Viable condibuilds, useful torch or mh dps sword.

And most important, split pvp/pve balance.
Trueshotnerf in pve……………………………..why?!!!!

Yeah Norjena,we can do that on the guardian’s subforum….here we beg for Anet to make PT back at 20 energy and remove the Unblockable buff from it to make it worthwhile.

It doesn´t matter, cause its arenanet.

U have to wait half a year, for a balancing patch that u can get all two weeks if u play blizzard´s moba hereos of the storm.

What Anet does for balancing (especially in pve) ist not even worth to comment. It´s beyond kitten.

Playing MMOs since 2004, and never seen a worse balance focused in pve. I thought raids could change it, but nothing changed so far.

Still the same cluesless people are working on class balance, trying to force a pve game to be a well known e-sports title.

That will never happen.

Next Balance patch in 4 Month, 5-9 lines changes per class…..gg Anet, GG!!!!

I think collections aren´t funny (and we have way too much of them). So i hate it to wait month over month just to get a stupid abd boring journey.

RNG is probably not the best thing, but still better then waiting for new collections.

I´d like to see the new sword/mace, longbow, the focus or the torch.

But with the current speed we have to wait 4 years or more, and there will still be other weapons missing.

So kitten the collections! Add the precursors to loottables or at least to the mystic forge.

It would be still worse then mace in most situations.

Mace have higher dps, better sustain (healing), a usefull block (it even works for allies)and regenaration for up to 5 players.

Btw, Torch and Langbow have condition applieing abilitys, so i think they could rework staff/sword or scepter to be a main handed condition based weapon.
That would help guardians more then just fixing the sword.

More useful builds=more situations where the class itself is useful.

It´s time to change the class.

Let our enemys BURN, let them SUFFER!

They should rework sword to be a hybrid weapon.

We have enough power based weapons.
Mace=power based high dps
Hammer=power based high dps
Greatsword=power based high dps
Scepter and Longbow=powerbased and focused on dps
Staff=Lootstick focused on triggering lootable mobs, no other uses
sword=? what? It has no role/niche to fill.

It´s a stupid glitch. I have over 1500hours played on my Norn guard, so i will never reroll, but it mades me sad.

Ventari as a concept is my favorite stance but it’s very impractical because of how bad it scales with healing power…but there are some things you can try out with it…besides that dumb combo for stackig regen and might for no upkeep cost. With Momentary pacification and Diabolic Inferno you can turn that Ventari Tablet into an awesome trap.

Ventari doesn’t scale badly on healing power it scales as well as a druid and better than tempest.
The problem is the that the total healing output is subpar.

The problem are the dpsbuffs druids give to their partys.

1 Druid is 20% raiddps increase, 2 druids are 40% raid dps increase. Revs better personal dps can never match this

My fix;

Shacking wave – raise damage by 120% and make it actually hit hard. It doing less than auto, i wont bother.

Grasping shadow – An pull in melee makes no freaking sense.

At least make it a shadowstep to the target and pull your target to your position where you casted graps from. A range increase to 900 wouldnt hurt either.

Thats all sword oh needs to be viable. Anything else is a waste of time unless they plan to make new skills – and we know devs are too lazy to do that.

I like those ideas. Hopefuly any dev read them.

Condirev in pve is always inferior to zerkrev sadly.

I like to play it, but its not worth in pve. The support is not better, and the dps worse.
Condirev dps is about the same as a condidruid does, and now compare druid support (grace of the land LoL) to mallyx support…..

Sure u can do all content wich such a build, but a zepter/torch full nomad guard with zero healingtraits or utilitys can do this aswell.

I think that the tablet heal is not counted as heal from the revenant him/herself.

So u can heal as much u want, the game does not give u any loot because the heal comes from the tablet, not from u.

Some Raidgroups are already testing a rev-less meta.

2 condidruids for grace of the land buff, 2 ps warriors 2 thiefs 2 mesmers and 2 eles. It seems to do even higher dps then raids with revs.

DPS was nerfed, not utility.

Hammer 3 and 5 are big dps loses.

Hammer dps was already far behind other range classes like staffele, and now its broken. Especialy with anets easystyle fix “can only be hit once per 0,5sec” Nerfhammer.

The dps more crap then before, it needs a buff.
