I bought WoD yesterday, even pugging arah doesn´t make fun anymore. People are using this exploit way to often on EU servers.
Arah/fractals/hotw, are they only dungeons i do often at the moment.

Use the berserker metabuilds but! Pvt amor (trinkets/weapon berserker).
And cheap runes or orbs, ruby orbs, or valkyrie doesn´t rly matter whatever u want as defensive stats.

U will get dmg (because u don´t get heal all the time from things like AH). U can surive but u can learn how, or when u have to avoid dmg instead of just tanking it.

Playing AH with knights gear will not help u. U can facetank most bosses and u will never get better. Just because u will heal yourself soo much.

I recommand 5 points in honor for the beginning.

It´s ok to learn how to play in pve. Try to keep your aegis up and u will learn how to survive.

Sword has alot of utility. GS is only dmg/defensive. No reflection, no pull, no firefield, no partybuffs etc.
U can´t make a weapon viable just by boosting own! defensive stats and low dmg.
U need something partywide.

For example remove the dogde from AA3 but let Maul buff 2sec protection on allies within 300 range. Would be awesome for pve/pvp because u can buff your pet with protection.

Things like this need to happen. Otherwise the GS will never be a real option if u trie to min/max.

Same dps, but other advantages or utlity. This is the way to balance weapons. And then people have the choice to pick up the weapon they want, or the one who better fits the situation.

Patches never changed it (rly). People where just missleaded. Ele DPS was always so strong, but people never tried it. Or did not know the builds. Same like thief/ranger.

Pick up 5 warriors and they buff themselfs, and people think the dps is strong. Just because they didn´t know how to use firefields to stack might.

Because Anet is focusind on LS Singelplayer storyinstances, not on balance. There are alot weapon/traits/utility corpes in the game since release.

Yes, but he wants a build for mindless open world. OK open world is most times mindless, but more lifesteal makes it even easier.
That´s the reason for bloodmagic. And it´s doing a good job here. To make is easier, not faster or “better”.

He even said he would never use it in dungeons. Just for solo open world.

The dmg diffrence between sword and greatsword is even higher in pvp. So yes, it needs a buff there.
Nonberserker trinket GS build hit like wet noodles. They don´t do enough pressure to take alot of cele/tankbuilds down.

Yes u can play them, but i won´t call them viable. Sword does it dmg just by using autoattacks. That´s a big advantage in pvp.

Because our sword is something…special as u all know. Rangers should have a real choice.

You see this is why I never pug with rangers… This is why the class’ reputation is so low.

Instead of having people in the forum asking to fix things that need fixing, we have the majority asking to buff a GS because we can’t learn to evade with sword and we are too lazy to practice.

I can use the sword, im one of the few ranger who can even solo lupicus with sword/gs sword used often especially in phase3.

I just can´t see a point having a subpar weapon. And not a real choice.

Sometimes i just don´t like the sword. It´s not always fun to play. Vs Ingvar the Butcher for example.

Low reward for rly high risk. Even if u can play the sword well, it´s still one of the most difficult things to manage in pve.

In PvP GS needs a buff too.
U can´t pressure with GS. Dogde 2 and laugh about a ranger trying todo some dmg.
Yes alot people playing it, but i can´t see a rly high ranked ranger using GS.

Look at guardian GS for example it is viable. Not only because if it´s skills. It is viable because it does alot of dps just by using AA. It makes alot pressure over time.

Ranger with GS in pvp feels like attacking with a wet noodle. The kit is nice, but the AA does not enough dmg.

@Solandri Axe might was an interessting step. But i miss something like a bonus if u can only hit 1 target. More dmg or higher attackspeed (or a bounce between u and the target).
Axe is only weak in pve, in pvp it can work quite well.

OK, you promised to be friendly, so here goes! I personally use that skill to demolish opponents in PvP. If they make it stronger, it won’t be fair to other classes. It’s lethality comes in the form of high precision condition builds. It hits harder than rapid fire (Ok slight exaggeration—but you get the idea) and most peeps don’t know it’s going to kill them. It can stack bleed so fast that opponents will die before the last bird hits if they don’t pull off a cleanse or dodge.

Let’s imagine a ranger, 2 points in expertise, 6 in wilderness survival, rabid gear, rune of the krait, and sigil of agony (+20% bleed duration to reach a 3 seconds bleeding with sharpened edges).
You have a 40% crit chance, 60% with fury.
The skill hits 16 times.
If it crits, it makes the foe bleeds for 3 seconds, for a 339 total damage, on a 66% chance to activate.

-> The skill will crit in average 9.6 times.
-> Sharpened edges will activate in average 6.4 times.
-> The total bleed damage for the skill will be 2169.6. Add more or less 800 damage for the physical damage of the skill, and it goes a bit under 3k, for a 25 seconds cooldown.

Honestly, it’s weak. And it seems even weaker when compared to other off-hand weapons. Dagger has an evade, poison, and cripple, all on a relatively short CD. Torch has a 40% burn uptime with only the 4th skill. Sure, it’s a dps increase compared to the auto-attack, but it’s not strong, and if a ranger is using warhorn, it’s probably for the 5th skill.

I would also want something else added to the skill. Cripple/blind/whatever defensive condition to make warhorn a bit more usuable.

If you take a sigil of earth and use it with sharpened edges when opponent is around 80-75% hp (to proc keen edges), its gonna stack 12-13 bleeds or so. Even if you are zerker, so many bleeds hurt:)

But yeah a 1 or 2-second pulse blind would be awesome

Sigil of earth has a 2 sec cd. So i will proc on cd just by using autoatack. It´s not an argument for wh4.
The skills definitly needs a reword.
Lower cd/castime, more dmg and/or any conditions, boon remove whatever.

If they do this, i think they should lower wh5 cd aswell. Like warrior wh5, lower cd with lower boon duration is better. Because it´s a blast finisher.

GS is not decent it needs the same dps then sword to be so.
Think not only about evades and dps, u will get more utility with the sword.

Axe: CC (to rip defiant), pull or reflexion
Warhorn: a nice looking but terribel skill 4, and might/fury/swiftness (is a good second set, not to use it infight
Torch: additional firefield (sometimes useful, in fractals for example)
Dagger: a third evadeskill with low cooldown.

GS AA Evade is….often not rdy if u have to dogde, most evades from GS are wasted.

I don´t understand the points here. U have a weapon with great skills. But “lower” dps. Then a weapon with nearly same evades and more utility.
Why not buff GS to give rangers a real choice?

A ranger using GS is never be as good or better then an engi or additional ele for your dungeonparty. And that´s just sad.

Or, just deal with it. Most good “non pug” speedrungroups don´t stack much anyway.

Using Maul on CD interupts AA Chain, bad timed interrupts cost dps.
Vulstacks…Bosses have – 50% vul duration. And it can be ignored in some partys (because other classes are stacking it to 20+).
Sword AA gives to your Pet, pets might is not for 20 sec like yours (blastfinishers) only for 10sec.
So need the sword AA to keep might on your pet.

Sword has got 2 dogdeskills, both are very potent. U should include them too.

I don´t think your calculations favor the sword.

Overall the GS is much weaker. Use it when u need max meleerange (Melandru Arah p4 Melee, or Grawlboss in volcano fractal). Or for trashmobs.
On most bosses the sword clearly outshines our GS.

Anet should buff it to make it a real and viable choice.

And the sword will still be a good and often used weapon…

If u rly want to play GS, just use the metabuilds. GS builds are not rly diffrent for PvE.

U can play GS only builds (x/x/4/4/x) or something else. But they will do subpar dps and support.

Well….i can see a giant "bugfix"hammer over Lupi….probably destroying this games only funny boss with uniqe animations and phases.

@Topic, gear/build and all doesn´t rly matter (zerker/assasines, perfect runes/sigils), wall on wall kills the boss. Even if u´re soloing it…

Some of the people posting here are some of the best necromancer players around. And usually they did all math, and they understand game mechanics.

Max condition dmg is much lower then max directdmg. Nothing new, and u can´t change it.

I think guardian have enough possibility to block/absorb projectiles.

And i think the knockback does not synergize well with meleeweapons (and allies). It only works in PvP. And only because there is only 1 gamemode. Point holding…

I would rly like to see shield 5 changed.
No knockback but a blastfinisher. And it could reduce all dmg taken from allies (up to 5) inside by a flat % of dmg. 20% for example.
And the guardian should be able to move (and probably to attack).

Shield 4 could heal allies (what 5 now does) in addition to protection or aegis.
A bigger cone or better small pbaoe would be nice.

The shield would have it´s own niche, in all gamemodes. It could be useful even in PvE where dmg reduction is usually not needed. But sometimes nice to have (fotm 50 for example).

I would NOT buy an additional set with speedrunes.
Just use your normal gear and a 2/6/2/2/2 build, not because it does most dps (it does not), because u are fast.
GS + sword + jugde intervention and swiftness ist perfect. Dmg is high enough most maps are under lvl 80 where mobs are 2hits anyway.

Staff and Epidemic in a condi or hybrid build is more and faster damage than dagger/warhorn when you need aoe tagging.
Unless it’s in a situation like the (meanwhile nerfed) Svanir champion farm event in Frostgorge Sound, in which case even necro power builds fall far behind the high bursts you needed to get any loot at all.

Once all 30seconds? ah….well good argument. Epedemic is a slow and weak AoE with a huge CD. Nothing for tagging mobs frequently.

I think u guys play too much necromancer, u don´t even an idea how “fast and save” tagging works. And i don´t talk about staffguards, even guards have better options to tagg alot mobs.

The problem on staff is. Mark of Blood is ok…but then u´re stuck for 10 seconds on a useless weapon with rly bad AoE, low dps and slow attack speed.

Even with the use of DS the staff is still slow and not AoE heavy.
Better u use your small Bone minions and 2 wells. Necromancer is the worst AoE, and the worst range (600+) class ingame.

A tipp at last.
Buy a dagger with sigil of fire and geomany (a yellow 1 is enough) this helps alot.

U can rotate both daggersets always if a mobgroup spawns to trigger geomancy.
This is the same effect as mark of blood (it´s enough to tagg, yes).

And u have the cleave + fast attack speed (important if mobs die fast).

Hello, thanks for this CDI topic.

just a few words.

- environtal weapons can be fun, but a raid should be beaten by class specific skills. It is (or should be) still a MMO"Roleplaying"Game.

- if it is a re RPG like raid, not all builds will be viable always, teamplay is what is needed.

-U can´t make a good raid which can be done with all “play how u want” builds. Play how u want includes everything. Even sentinel´s gear with condition weapons and heal traits/runes/sigils and utilityskills!

- don´t make to many puzzles. And don´t make too much timegates (like TA Aetherpath, i run it often, i run it fast. But there are too many “useless” timegates in this path).

- use a fix number of players to balance the content. U don´t have the expierence like (for example) blizzard to create nice scaleable content. This is not your fault! But u have to care for it.

- More players won´t make it more epic. 10 or 20 players are good numbers.

Dagger+WH is much much better to tagg mobs in events. Same like thief, dagger is better then SB, if u move fast enough the fast atk speed tags more.

The dmg diffrence between a 15p pvt meleetrain and a 15p half pvt half zerk meleetrain is huge.
U don´t need more defensive stats as other players. Eles can surive full celestial in meleetrains (D/D), necros in cavalier/knights.
Guards with shelter/renewed focus/heal on dogderolls and AH don´t even need full Pvt amor.
Warriors for example should use full pvt amor and zerk trinkets, because they need more toghness/vita then guards. The “worker” warrior does not have any additional active migtation (like endure pain which is not used).

It´s important to finish downed players fast, and u need dmg for it. Even clerics is better then full pvt. A full clerics train will dominate a full pvt train.

Even if u are alive longer then others, u aren´t more usefull. Probably they can´t rally because your dmg was to low? probably they did already more dmg in a shorter period of time?

~18-19k hp and ~2,4k amor, more is not needed as a guard. Less is possibel.

Necros do fine enough damage IMO, the problem is utility. We have good utility in theory but most dungeons don’t really require the type of utility we offer (aka, offensive utility and reflects) The only decent offensive utility is decent vuln stacking. Also, it’s kinda tough to notice the defensive utility, in general.

Necromancer dps is bottom tier. Only mesmers are usually worse (because phantasms die too fast).
Ingi/ranger both do much more dps (especially in short fights) and both bring much more support and utility.

Necro needs a dps and support/utilitybuff to become usefull in dungeons (and upcoming raids).
And this…will not happen this year. Probably not even next year.

And u´re still pushing sword 1 97% of the time. Torch FF is usually not needed. Horn can be used.
Axe 4 works only if u don´t fight on a wall, guard reflects do more dmg (so he/she should do it).
RaR is most times not needed too.
LB5 cd is long, most fights are over before it is rdy again.

Old build was more fun, no need to open inventory to swap LB/WH and/or possibel rotation with dagger/axe.

Open inventory to switch weapons before combat is not hard, not challenging, just annoying. And annoying things don´t make fun.

The rotation in the guide is. LB 2 while walking to the boss, LB5, then switch to S/A and stay on it. Never rotate back to LB infight.

In terms of world bosses and pve “armor” really doesn’t matter. While Vitality can help with condition damage and overall health pool. Toughness is usually negated just because the hits they make are so big overall.

That´s completly wrong.
With enough thoughness/protection/traits and healing power u can facetank every singel encounter in this game.
Vitality is what is not needed. Vita and heal power fill the same role. Vita is for short fights, to absorb some burst, healpower is for longer fights.

U´re leeching rewards, not more.

Even if u play in a clerics group with people who want to facetank everything. A clerics bloodmagic/DS Healbuild (x/x/x/4/6 core) will help them more then a MM does.

Sometimes i play 6/4/0/4/0 Lifeleech MM for Solopve (and only solo pve, map completition).

Control and defensive support is viable/helpful too. If it does not cost too much dps. And that´s the problem.
Only offensive support will not solve our problems. Look at rangers.

It will usually never happen that u can hit both, allie and enemy. Your DPS will drop hard, and the condiremove is slow and bad.

In PvP people have (or should have) enough condiclease, and it does not even remove your own conditions.
Focus gives u 3 blocks, bouncing blind, regeneration and good dmg/spike too. Much better then the torch.

Unsing a Torch=using only 4 weaponskills. Skill 5 is garbage and the Focus will always outshine the torch.
The little bit extradps from skill 4 is rarely worth it. Especially in pvp where control/utility is better then burst.

Krait Runes are good too, if u get might from others. U can easiliy get the 100% bonus bleed duration.
With Sigils 15+ Bleeds are possibel. And it´s cheap, important for a “funbuild” in my eyes xD.

If u use Scepter u have a weaponset with nearly no direct dmg. Thats bad for a hybrid.

And the reason why i use Staff+Dagger, but probably spoj build is better because of the easier rotation even if there are less bleeds.

With staff+dagger u have both on both sets. Direct dmg and conditiondmg. Staff 2/3>DS1, and Dagger AA on the other weaponset.

8-12k over 2 1/2 seconds is not that much. U can´t call it “burst” Dagger aa is nearly the same dps. And is dagger aa burst? Not rly or?

I don’t have any math. But based on some testing on golems, the auto-attack DPS is still really, really bad. What’s worse, it’s actually hard to keep at 20 or more vulnerability stacks because you obviously still have to use the No. 2 attack for DPS, and it doesn’t stack vulnerability for a considerable time.

A single shot on Focus 4 will pump the vulnerability to max for several seconds. Vulnerability stacking on a single target is something necros do actually manage better than any other profession. Sure, others can get to 25 stacks briefly, but necros can actually maintain it.

That said, it’s kind of a not-very-helpful claim to fame, as a group will stack a fair bit of vuln anyway. My point was that you can actually take breaks for DPS without losing much in the way of vulnerability stacking, and easily make up for the lower stacks with higher damage.

Most PvE Bosses have “unshakeable” that means – 50% Vulnerability duration.
So Focus 4 or axe 1 can never maintain 20+ stacks. An Engineer is much better here, and Engis have better useage of + 40% condidurationfood in PvE. Because they add more Bleeds with granades and Frost of course.
