So, yet another thief complaining, who would have guessed?
Tip for Anet:
Hover over S&R icon with mousepointer on the skillbar, show range on minimap.

Because of this games sometimes quite rough (or non existant) visual feedback, weird mechanics and other things, you’ll often wonder if a skill is bugged, while the real reason is you didn’t use it right, and the reason for that is either lacking description and/or some of the things mentioned above. Things could improve a lot when it comes to this.
I’ll say it again – remove all amulets, balance the game from that point.
At this point they might as will just remove all the amulets and just leave Marauder and Viper.
Actually, I agree. Remove them all and find out the true profession balance in this game. I would think lots of people are in for a major surprise if that were to happen.
Hey, can any of you offer me any insights on how to target the right players in obvious clusterkittenes with minions, clones pets and whatnot running around? I have no problem killing people but when I try to point and click the right person I often have problems getting it done. The characters in pvp can blend over one another often making targeting a drag. I bet others have the same problem, how do you deal with it?
This will never get better in this game, especially since at least two classes can more or less add the crappy targeting system as part of their profession mechanic; mesmers and thieves.
Q: Are you heading towards more of a oneshotting game, to make it look more interesting to all twitch kiddies out there? Live fast die young?
I get a feeling thieves are in for a real treat the next few months.
Beastly Warden
Current:
“Your pet taunts foes near them when executing a command [F2] ability.” (2 seconds)
Suggestion:
“Your pet shadowsteps to your target and taunts your target and foes near them when executing a command [F2] ability.” (1 – 2 second(s))
(Optional: With no target selected, your pet shadowsteps to your location and taunts foes near you when executing a command [F2] ability (question: for pets with F2 abilities that targets a foe – what will happen?) )
*
Reason: Would help many of our pets to actually land their attacks, at least their F2. A few F2 abilities activation times should get a reduction in time to execute (that should happen anyway).
Drawbacks: Wouldn’t be the best option for some of our pets perhaps, depending on how you use them.
Discuss please!
Aids.
Yeah, this thread gave me cancer too. Dipkitten suggestions from thieves.
+1
Considering that arenanet wants pet dmg to be a major part of ranger dmg this is too much in my opinion.
What is too much? The damage increase from the BM traitline? So you want to give that as a baseline I guess, right? Fine by me.
If you on the other hand simply want to nerf pet damage yet again with no compensation, then I’m done discussing this with you. Rangers/druids aren’t at the top of the food chain in any game mode.
Some clean testing would have to be done but I estimate the dmg difference between traited and untraited pets around 30-40%.
On critical hits possibly, but not because of the stat increase, but because of Pet’s Prowess (20% more damage on critical hits only) and Loud Whistle (flat 10% damage increase).
Not counting critical hits, the traitline is nowhere near a 30-40% damage increase, not even close.
I would prefer something else rather than simply copying the rune effect. Brainstorm! Personally, I like when skills have some cool and useful synergy with our pets, maybe think about the skill from that pov?
Why do you guys think healing power would fill AF faster and this would promote going berserker? It is the opposite. Currently healing power does nothign to fill AF faster because the whole thing is tick based. The current (!) system promotes berserker.
And seriously how do you think a more or less 10 second cd (and yes people do just toggle for druidic clarity) is okay for a stunbreak and full condi cleanse. Even 20 seconds would be questionable here.
Thing is, you can’t be sure it’s always available to you every 10 seconds. 20 seconds icd and you can throw the trait in the trash. An increase to the cd is not the solution to this problem, if there even IS a problem there to begin with.
First, druid is not “top of the meta”. With that said:
- Druid clarity could be changed to break stun when entering CA, then pulse condition cleanse, 1 condition/second while i then form. I would love for this trait to also cleanse conditions from our pets somehow.
- I don’t think the change you want to make in regards to AF is the way to go. It would yet again promote zerkers more than anything, if we talk about gain from dealing damage.
- Do you really take BM traitline for the pet stat increase? I hardly notice the difference. I grab it for the traits.
I like the idea, but not the blind spam. Think some more about #1, and I’m sure you would be able to come up with something a bit more balanced, while still useful. Maybe put a debuff on affected target, that which will allow #1 to deal increasingly higher damage for each following hit from #1 or something.
Wisps on you and your pet that heals allies and hurt foes, balance accordingly.
Warhorn 4: Hunter’s Call
Cooldown goes down from 25 to 15 seconds (40%) as opposed to 20 seconds (20%).
Weird, never even given that a tought. Expect this one, out of all of the things you brought up, to be fixed first.
Elite on a 10 sec CD, insane damage output through pets while also having insane sustain, (very) good mobility. Druid gets it all.
I wonder what leas Anet to that design choice while also denying thief any sustain because it does damage.
Thieves, the biggest whiners of all in this game. Go play some other game.
Where’s the -1 button? Enough downvotes = perma ban from the forums.
If they somewhere in the future would allow full control, I truly hope they would also allow to toggle these skills for autocast as well – all of them.
Even today I must confess I sometimes struggle with using some pet skills as they are ready, mostly hawks and tiger (short cd F2 skills), especially while at the same time keeping track of myself and my surroundings.
It would be good in theory, but I can bet that even the most hardcore rangers out there would miss out on a few good rotations keeping track of 3 additional skills on the pet.
All good in theory, but give options for autocast like they work now (I wouldn’t mind being able to autocast F2 right now for some pets tbh).
If they would allow this, they would also have to implement some way of disabling skills you wouldnt want to cast…
Like what? This is exactly why they SHOULD implement this. I would pick the kittening bird swiftness cast as f2 so that it would no longer suddenly occur when my bird is one attack close to killing a target. Enemy almost dead? Nope. Let’s cast kittening swiftness.
If you want to control Wolfs knockdown, maybe you don’t want it to autocast fear, for example. Same with smokescale, I don’t want to have it autocast smokefield whenever it feels like it like it was before. Surely you can see the potential issues with this?
Either they open up the whole ai for allowing us to disable skills and/or allow us to control every skill (or at least two of them), or they leave the current system as it is.
If they would allow this, they would also have to implement some way of disabling skills you wouldnt want to cast…
I borrow this thread to ask – the range of S&R, is that counted from the ranger or the pet? During some open world events (mainly The Shatterer), I’ve noticed many times that the skill doesn’t seem to do anything, even though I’m standing fairly close to downed players (my pet may be off somewhere though). Is S&R buggy, or is it simply me not using it right?
Pulsing fury every third second for rangers in combination with remorseless would be totally broken. That 25% damage increase would have almost permanent uptime for ranger + pet, especially if you factor in other sources of fury as well (teammates, pets, two handed training, runes).
But the most interesting thing I found is:
- Entangling Roots count as an individual instance, this means even in a 1v1 situation you can generate a ton of burn stacks
This is pretty nice indeed, but I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t a bug? But hey, I’m not complaining!
Healing Spring is a bug! It was awesome before everyone begged it be turned into a trap. I really think it’s been trashy ever since, won’t touch it with a 10ft pole.
WHO asked for it to be turned into a trap? For sure not me. It was good before, now it’s just awkward and buggy. I don’t think ANYONE wanted the current version of it.
I DO know however, that some wanted the throwing trap mechanic for healing spring, which is completly different from what we have today. And of course, in true Anet style, they managed to pull the worst of all suggestions and make it into the mess we have today, since they robbed us of our throwing trap ability. Classy, but something to be expected from a company not in sync with their customers. Oh, the stupidity…
great for revealing thieves/mesmers/engis, why? a single dmg on you, even 1damage will count as attacking you, not sure about skills that doesnt have dmg like pulls but still, it will force the enemy to swap target to your pet and REVEAL them when they are about to stealth such as D/P thieves and maybe also wasting important skills on it because the enemy didnt swap back to you.
This is a good point, and another great use of this skill that many may not even think about, +1!
Nice!
Did you pick glyph of empowerment mainly for it’s short cd or the small damage boost?
I’m in love with glyph of equality myself for obvious reasons (even though you get 8 seconds longer cd), it’s superb imho – damage, daze, blind, stunbreaker, healing, condiclear. I would consider that glyph our best utility skill of all.
Two changes:
Crossfire – increase rate of fire by x% (25%?)
Concussion Shot – increase range to 1200 (double velocity)
Hm, isnt there already a way to bind a key to this?
Light On Your Feet
After successfully Dodging gain 5 seconds of quickness. ICD 8 secs
Wow, now that would be soo op, lol!

I’d like to see Invigorating Bond merged with Natural Healing in BM traitline, and put a new GM into NM.
I would dare say that 75% of GW2 players do not understand break bars or know how they are supposed to break it.
Agree… That’s why I always call out in Map Chat what CC means and what effects are CC. But yes, a lot of people don’t understand. Can’t deny is not very well explained if you just got into the game and see that bar, I bet most new players assume its like a energy or mana bar Lol
Pretty much. There are lots of players out there that doesn’t know and frankly doesn’t even care about mechanics like this. And, as you said, it’s not very well explained ingame. I would also argue that players using the wiki (or any other source) to get information are very, very few compared to the population as a whole.
Changing a trait, and not the weapon, is not a way to make a weapon viable.
This.
Think about what you’re suggesting and talking about, ppl.
I never used it before. Now I use it a lot. AOE stunbreak+taunt+protection – what’s not to like?
When I started out playing with my ranger at launch, I used shortbow more or less all the time. Now, it’s a weapon that’s collecting dust in my backpack. I can’t seem to find a playstyle for it anymore that I like. Imho, this weapon needs lots of love compared to our other options.
And no Anet, the way to make shortbow more attractive is not to nerf our other weapons…
I’m assuming he means that the first ally to die within range, in excess of the ICD time, would instantly be teleported to the nearest Ranger, and then the pet would attempt to revive. This would be either completely automatic, or possibly tied to the Ranger healing skill.
Interesting, but is that something you would always want to happen?
Just change the trait to work whenever an ally is downed within 600 radius.
I don’t follow… how do you mean?
Used it during a shatterer event where some ppl tend to drop like flies. The skill was used off cd during the whole event.
Topic.
I’d like some sort of visual feedback from this skill, applied to the allies it affects.
Thoughts?
I love it. Getting to places previously inaccessible in Tyria thanks to gliding is so much fun! Don’t put up a bunch of invisible walls and stuff, unless it’s something that REALLY breaks part of the game.
I agree, I like it very much.
I think they really should leave things like this in game, and try to prevent abuse some other way. It’s fun finding out about these things, and its fun using ’em.
Anyone here remember rocket/grenade jumping in Quake by id? Strafe jumping?
All of those were things the developer didn’t think of, that the players found out and made an absolute artform of using. In that game, they did leave the mechanics in, even though it was something that wasn’t intended to work that way from the beginning, and if you were skilled enough of course you gained an advantage – the way it should be.
It’s just cool, so leave it be thank you. Now let this thread die.
The fact that Anet can’t stop this from happening is… mindboggling.
Where are the mods now? Lock this thread now please, I’m sick of the stupidity here.
You can’t easily kill a druid or ranger pet, and they can just swap pets without impunity. So your only strategy in defeating rangers is to ignore the pet.
This is the whole problem. A fix would be any damage, condition, cc a ranger takes always effects the pet.
If a ranger is feared so is the pet and I am talking about baseline.
Omg. I’m lost for words.
Ok, so it is I that don’t know what dps stands for? Oookay…
Every single weapon that deals ANY damage is by definition a “dps weapon”, since they deal more or less DPS. Just fyi.
So by your definition, clerics armor is DPS armor?
I didn’t know armor deals damage? And you do know what dps stands for, right?
