The crying in the pvp forums about this is going strong, and we all know what that means by now. Rangers aren’t wanted in pvp meta, it’s as simple as that, and the community will stop at nothing to make sure the class gets kicked out.
I’m rather amazed it took the community this long to catch up with the damage potential of the bristleback though…
Make mh axe more viable vs single targets. Either allow #1 to bounce off of allies when there aren’t enough enemies around, and/or change Ricochet damage from 33%-33%-33% to 50%-25%-25%.
I feel like I’m repeating myself, this is something that’s been suggested before, time and time again…
It’s a lost cause indeed.

This is yet another nvidia driver issue. Just google “problem ejecting nvidia”, it is not only affecting gw2.
Crusader have too much synergy with remorseless builds, and therefore either the amulet will be taken away, or our traits reworked.
Don’t worry AivenPrimus, we’ll get nerfed again and thrown out of every meta in the game, since that’s what always have and always will happen with this class.
If I were you, I’d start practicing thief, since apparently you’re one of the “if you can’t beat them, join them”.
We need a Key Ring…We need unified and simplified systems.
Not just for keys.
I think everyone is aware of the current flaws.Sure your suggestion is valid but the problem doesn’t have to exist to begin with.
Bad/Unhealthy systems have to be fixed at their core.
No more band aid tactics.
The “problem” needs to exist so that Anet can make money. Flood players with items, lots and lots of items, and they’ll have to buy more storage space AND convenience stuff.
It’s very much in Anet’s best interest to keep the system more or less like it’s working now.
A few times a month I’ll hear my wife exclaim “kitten!” and I know she hit that button by mistake again.
Its a feature I doubt anyone would miss if it were removed.
I would.
Get lost thief. Go whine in the pvp section, there’s a thread there already.
The auto leap stick isn’t lazy it come at a cost. Lazy is not finding a way for this cost to pay off for you. The suggested change would hurt ranger vs stealth classes.
Sword aa is the man up chain. It is one of the few time when a rangers full damage comes to bear. Stealth wont save your opponent (the proposed changes would do nothing one target stealths).
What do you mean with this? Explain please.
Have you ever watch two brawlers stand toe to toe and trade punches. The man who starts to back up or defend is the man that usually going down. This is what I mean by man up chain.
If you try to run your done if he runs he’s done. Can you dodge sure but normally you have a 10 second window before some bs passive defense trait kicks in again. So every second counts. Those of you who manually click the aa are really hurting yourselves. The attack chain is about 1 1/2 seconds. While this is do-able, it becomes harder when you add quickness. Rather than furiously tap your aa hotkey you can actually watch his animations and buffs.
1h melee is one of the few times that ranger and pet can unload as one . The cripple make escape harder coupled with the leap and ensure your pet land his attacks. This with quickness, stab and what other boons and utilities you have and not even a trazmania devil can rival your onslaught.
While in the current meta this tactic doesn’t work as well not because of the tankiness (for the ranger Knights amulet is doable) of many of the classes and builds, but mainly because slow and chill.
Long answer, but I still don’t understand the connection between sword#1 and an enemy in stealth?
With the balance patch coming up soon, could we please consider changing the Sword […] autoattacks to condition based attacks?
No, not if the direct damage of sword gets nerfed in the process, which you seem to be fine with.
The R9 390. It’s faster, and it got double the amount of vram. On the other hand, the nvidia card uses less power.
The option they are adding is to change that keybinding from a hold to a toggle.
Then all’s good I guess, thanks for the info!
Which of those two gives better fps in game? Which one can give better performance when there is a zerg vs zerg situation?
Neither one, and the reason for that
the game is CPU bound
and
It’s irrelevant what resolution i ’ll use
Isn’t this what Left Ctrl currently does, with the difference that you have to hold the key pressed?
Yes, which is terribly inconvenient, and why they’re introducing this always-on or always-off option. How about something more flexible?
Yeah, I agree with your first post – make it an on/off keybind.

The knockdown. Personally I don’t agree with the long cd of this trap, I don’t find a single knockdown that powerful.
Anyone else feel the cooldown for Search and Rescue should be lowered? Scrappers and their Function Gyro seem almost equal, with the exception it’s on a 20s cooldown with half the range (600) while ours is on a 85s/68s and will now gain the ability of the pet teleporting to a down ally with the 26th update.
I feel as though it could use a CD reduction down to 75s/60s.
I would still never use it with such a long cd, unless the other effect of the skill is very good.
If you look at the major buffs the thief is getting you have to wonder if ANeT loves thieves. Thieves are gonna one shot even more players after Jan 26.
Anet thinks that’s what people want to see, so coming meta have a fair chance of becoming the worst one shotting meta ever.
Did you use F2? The bristleback is capable of oneshotting the heavy golem ( https://goo.gl/eBIaB7 ), so I thought the time seemed a bit off.
I was thinking about putting Sharpening Stine on the list but you can set up some nasty combos with. Splitblade and Poison Volley just to name a few. It’s not the best skill, but definitely not terrible.
The skill itself can only put at most 5 bleeds at once on a target. 5 bleeds then a 45 second cd. Yeah, the skill is terrible.
We need a longbow buff. Not DMG-wise, but it pretty much doesn’t work right now. Revs and Guardians have a shield absorbing ranged attacks while they can attack from range on their own, Eles, of course projectile destruction and reflects, necros can get rid rid of projectiles pretty easily aswell. Mesmers just evade and block everything and sit in stealth, engis block and reflect a lot aswell. Our longbow isn’t feared anymore because he’s neglected so easily. Warriors Rifle hits hard – and sigil of might MAKES it hit. We should be feared at range but we are a joke right now if it’s about this.
The solution isn’t to make longbow (or any other weapon) attacks unblockable, but to heavily tone down on blocks in this game. That said, I don’t have any hopes in either direction with this company anymore.

Yes, noticed it during the dragon event in Frostgorge yesterday. Really crappy fps followed by smooth fps moments later.
This is normal, actually. Happens at all boss events where there are a ton of mini’s present. The smoothness happens about 60seconds after mass combat starts and after the minis are hidden.
has done this to me for years.
What i’m talking about here has nothing to do with that, since the fps drop came while we had already been fightin the dragon for a good while. It struck at the moment when he moved to his new position, lasted for 20-30 seconds, then went back to normal.
Having done this event maybe hundreds of times, i can tell the difference when somethings changed, and yesterday i experienced just that.

Edit: As a suggestion to developer’s question about what could be an effective celestial replacement (That keeps the functionality while being scaled down to the rest of amulets) I would say.
Power: 560
Condition Damage: 560
Precision: 560
Ferocity: 560
Vitality: 280
Toughness: 280
Healing power: 560
No thanks.
As for the rest of your post, don’t bring logic into the discussion in these forums, it flies way above most of the folks around here…
Are the devs aware of the ranger longbow range bug? Range is supposed to be 1500 and that is what the line underneath your skills will show, but longbow shots will hit their targets beyond that point. Looks like 1800 when I tested it with guildies in spvp.
This bug has been around for a while too, figured it would get fixed but it hasn’t been yet. Possibly a bug from when base range was 1200 and the trait added 300. Wouldn’t be surprised if the added 300 range was somehow accidentally left hidden with the grandmaster longbow trait.
Almost all ranged skills have an overage, this is because projectiles like arrows and bullets don’t just “stop”.
Lol, thank you. Took a screenshot of this, because I’m just waiting for the next time a crybaby start complaining about this, calling it a bug.
“In your face, whiners”
How else will they sell more expansions if everything in it isn’t a direct upgrade to vanilla?
This has been a thing with every expansion since Factions, and it’s a natural way for these companies to sell their products, in addition to all the other reasons you may want to get an expansion.
Turning auto attack off is one of the worst things you can do.
I don’t, and for that I suffer during some encounters since I can’t react to what’s happening. Well I react, but my char is locked up in the animation. But everybody already knows all of these things. Would I like to see the devs fix this issue? Hell yes. Will they? Not very likely.
To clarify: I want them to leave sword as it is but with the change to it that dodge/evades would override the animation. It can be done, but it would take a real programmer I guess and not some designer tweaking numbers in a database.
(edited by OGDeadHead.8326)
Funny how some claim that this weapon is so unusable because you cant dodge yet, people use it in condi builds for the evade.
Different playstyles, and you know that, so no need to try and be funny over ppl wanting to change #1, which is what we talk about.
I use sword all the time, but I still hate the fact you can’t dodge when the autoattack chain is running. And no, you don’t have to teach me about turning off autoattack on #1, everybody knows that now.
(edited by OGDeadHead.8326)
what do you think it will happen?
A lot of changes that won’t change anything, specially compared to the huge buffs other classes will get like always.
Examples:
Halve the Predator’s Instinct cd
Increase Light on your Feet condi duration to 20%
Increase Most Dangerous Game might duration to 4secs
Add pet stability to search and rescue
Add pet protection to Protect me
Add Extra condi dmg to sick them
Include off hand axe cd to Honed Axes
etc etc..
Lol, yeah this pretty much. A bunch of number tweaks, and nothing significant, thats what I guess we will see.
A huge +1 to the op – I agree with everything you wrote.
This thread +1 – the logic, or lack thereof, shown in this traitline is pretty remarkable.
The result of this thread will probably be a nerf to the skill in pvp.
All ranger healing skills should heal the pet as well. If they don’t, that would be a bug and should be reported as such.
Why the kitten do you want to nerf the Bristleback for? Stupid kittening thread.
Bristleback vs heavy golem (sorry for crappy quality):
OK Anet, it’s been three years now that colorblind people have been asking for a colorblind mode. You guys have been saying on the forums that you would look into it, that’s been going on for years now, so my question is why in the world haven’t you accommodated us yet? Seriously how hard can it be to simply set the colors differently? I know it’s not that hard to code in and you have had years to do it. So PLEASE help us out here. I know you’d get more players to play, I know I get really frustrated and /rage quit when I die because i thought i was standing in a friendly aoe ring.
Every other big MMO and most other games that aren’t MMOs have colorblind mode, so there’s really no excuse. And as others have stated, it’s nearly impossible to be efficient in raids when you’re colorblind.
Please help us out!
Try posting on reddit instead…
I think the skill is pretty decent as it is. A bit hard to land, so the animation could be a but quicker, and the cooldown a bit shorter. Also, some additional thing to apply to pets when using staff skills (general request).
Anyone care to explain what “Number of Impacts: 7” actually means?
Nice to see! +1
Thank you very much!
I’m wondering if you guys removed the year from forum posts, or if I somehow managed to alter a setting somewhere so that it doesn’t show for me?
Here’s a neat little trick you can try vs stationary targets. Place your bristleback right on top of the target. Once there, press F1 to attack said target. If Rain of spikes is off of cooldown – laugh (especially in a combo with Sic’ em). Feel free to follow up with F2.
(edited by OGDeadHead.8326)
More oneshotting? Yeah that’s fun. Not.
Whenever I put it on Ultra, it looks the same as Low.
Is there any way to fix this, or do I need to wait for a bug fix?
Can confirm this, the setting is broken atm.
Personally, I’d like a really tiny pet. Maybe a bee or something, something that would be very hard to spot!
ehm, it might be a bit off-topic, but I get really confused when people talk about damage numbers. What is 19K, or 44K for that matter? I always though K stands for kilo which would be a prefix meaning thousend. But you can’t be seriously talking about 19000 or even 44000 damage?! If you are, I’m seriously doing something very wrong, because I have never ever ever handed out an attack that comes even a teeny bit close to that. o.O
The 44k I would presume is drake + gs combined opening strike damage with a remorseless build and signets/traits to get some flat +% damage modifiers.
In the example above you got plenty of sources of +% damage:
- Consume plasma grants 9 boons, so that’s +9% damage with BH
- Clarion bond, vigorous training, ZS, that’s +5% damage with BH
- Heal as one traited by itself in combination with BH, another +2%
- Steady Focus +10%
- Remorseless +25% on opening strike
- The spirit pulses might, and also got synergy with BH
- Sigil of force +5%
- +10% while above 90% health
- Signet of the hunt +50%
- Signet of the Wild +25%
It all adds up nicely for that big, opening first strike.
No, what’s the point? A wolf disguised as a hyena? It would be confusing for enemies in pvp/wvw.
People who complain about Wyverns generally do not main Ranger or Druid for pvp…
Glad you’ve found what you think is good use from these pets, but this statement is a bit insulting. Imho, you’re gimping yourself running them.
