After two years, THIS is what to expect from GW2 dungeons. It’s obvious there won’t be multiple difficulty tiers for a long time, if at all. Complaining is complaining though and we should all know by know how to give feedback; this isn’kitten If we are disappointed in dungeon concept, then just write it off because for it to change would be a monumental effort.
Before you get discouraged … consider making lodestones from cores. In terms of gold, it’s cheaper but it requires skill points to buy some of the forging materials.
Radiant Retal is a rather stupid trait to be honest. The whole idea to make a secondary effect reliant on ANOTHER secondary effect … to give average, situational performance is an insult to the playerbase. This trait is a massive Anet fail and shows devs don’t really get all the facets of the profession. They just nerfed retal damage/duration a year ago … now they try to boost it? Dear Anet Devs, please nail the elements on your Guardian class concept before trying to ‘fix’ the design.
Rant over. I tend to agree that a completely focused burning build is pretty hard to play and not better than a typical Zerker/meditation thing. What I find it does exceptionally well that zerker/medi does poorly is bunker melting, even if they do have condition cleansing. I still tend to go hybrid because there really isn’t a good response to high damage burst conditions.

hey guys i’m trying to know everything about farming because i was told that it gives u a good amount of gold everytime ! also i’m a new player u can add me if u can help me ^^
The key to farming in GW2 now we have megaserver and champ train nerfs is maximizing your number of kills per hour.
The more kills per hour, the more drops you get and the more drops, the more likely a few will be rares. I recommend if you farm this way, you do it in high level zones so your rares and mats are more likely high level as well.
If you decide to farm this way, here are some tips:
1. Make sure you pick a class with speed boost signet. If not, get a full set of traveler’s runes. Consider that most of your time is spent simply running around so minimize your running time with speed.
2. It’s ideal to have a way to negate the first hits. Those are the ones that tend to slow you down, like knockbacks, etc… Anything that slows you down decreases your kills per hour.
3. Stacking damage effects. Lots of people will blow smoke up your but about how maximizing damage is the best way to optimizing your killing rate. That’s only partially true. What is as important is how many damage effects you can stack. It’s not relevant to increase your damage 5% on a mob that only takes 5-6 hits to kill . Effects that REDUCE the number of hits to kill a mob are most effective.
4. Ensure you have a way to finish the fight ‘clean’. The last thing you want is a condition on you AFTER the fight is over … Again, this slows you down.
5. Have a planned path through the zone and gather everything. Don’t farm the same area. Diminished Returns is active ingame.

Just for fun … I would pay for:
1. Free WP’s forever
2. Levels
3. BL Tickets
I will pay for convenience. If someone deems that P2W, so be it. I consider farming my sprockets with a pick convenience to simply farming to make gold to buy them.

Lol wut, guardian is best for farming, infinite swiftness and OP 1 with staff, also leap with GS too gud.
Seriously, every member of my guild farm with guardian in Orr, just a lot of AoE to tag mob and mobility.
Just a few things:
1. That infinite swiftness you get from staff is not optimal for farming because you have to swap from it for non-crap damage and it’s an active effect that costs you time to stop, cast and wait for full ticks to gain time back. You might not even have enough swiftness duration to get to your next target. It’s optimal to use traveler’s runes on Guardian to get your speed for farming because it’s a passive effect and it’s 100% uptime, regardless of weapon for a minimum of damage loss.
2. Tagging isn’t really great in all but a few events, so it’s not optimal to carry a weapon that’s optimized to do that while farming. I recommend GS/Scepter+Focus. It’s much more likely that you will encounter more events where range + blocks are going to be more useful than tagging. If you need a staff for those few tagging events, swap out before you commit.
3. Guardian is quite good, in fact I rank it second for farming just below Theif (note that I have not completed my assessment of openworld farming with Warrior, Engineer or Ele, so I can’t say how they rank). In comparison, Guardian has gear requirements for speed (Theif does not), has better closers and only more varied and limited (but still awesome) openers.
No one seriously interested in optimizing their general openworld farming experience with a Guardian should be using a staff ever.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Thief is one of the best openworld farming characters ingame- They excel in almost every requirement for optimized farming:
1. Speed – Most of your time farming is spent running around, not killing things. Thief have Signet of Shadows
2. Opener – Using D/P, #3 is the best opener EVER. It closes huge ranges, it prevents time-wasting knockbacks. You can spam it on longer veteran kills and champs.
3. Middle – A 6/6/2 build. Lots of multipliers. You already opened with #3, lay in with #1. If your target is a spaz and running all over, #2 or #3 again.
4. Closer – Their only weak area. Using Blinding Powder + Shadow Arts IV can be used to cleanse conditions that keep you in combat (and slow) after you killed your target.
I tend to use Signet of Malice, Theives Guild to round out the build.

The main argument is the fact that one pickaxe is favored over the other two, they all cost the same, shouldn’t they all function the same? To me, I got ripped off.
I think you did. I did as well. But Anet sort of screwed themselves a bit here as well …
They set a higher expectation for infinite harvesting tools with people that buy them. I desire more of these infinite tools but I won’t commit to buying them because I believe extra mat versions of the sickle and axe are on the horizon.
@Obtena, I transcribed exactly what Colin said. Verbatim.
Good … because it just proves what I said … Colin never said prices were broken.
I’m not talking about the flat % increase in stats but the POTENTIAL damage increase. BEST case with Zerker (pre-Ferocity) was calculated out to give a possible 14.6% damage increase with Ascended weapons. I think after the Ferocity change, this is down to 10-12% MAX damage increase (for FULL ascended Zerker sets).
I don’t think that’s possible but I would love to see where someone figured this out.
You get the base damage increase (which can be determined as a DIRECT % increase) and you get a very SMALL increase in stats. If the direct % increase from base damage is 5%, then the stats increase would have to be another 5% to bring that to a 10% increase overall. IIRC, the stats increase in no way can make up that extra 5%. THey just aren’t big enough.
Crafting precursor? In 2013 price of precursor is broken and Colin Johnsson said to: No problem, crafting precusor or others is coming for 2013 because the price is totally broken must be other solutions to obtain a precursor. And where is crafting precursor in 2013? Nowhere. Now we are in 2014 the game is extremely broken. It’s time to repair and keep is word.
He didn’t say price was broken IIRC. If he did, I would love to see it. Frankly, I think they take a different strategy. Instead of making precursors craftable, they introduced Ascended weapons.
Ok… so 5 accounts including bank slots and inventory isn’t enough., you have to prevent people from using trading post as a bank?
Don’t be daft … the fee isn’t ONLY there to prevent people from using the TP as a bank, though that is a very good reason for it from what I can tell (unless you don’t mind paying a 10% holder fee on your goods).
If you didn’t get anything for your fee, that should show you right their what one of it’s purposes are. It’s barrier to prevent you from making a mistake and not thinking about what you’re doing.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
I think your suggestion is too conditional and not an improvement over the current form of Glacial.
Why do i have to pay for something I am wanting to sell, but then decide to take it back and never receive my gold back?
In my opinion, this is a bad design.
Thank you.
It’s called ‘risk’ and it’s reasonable because of the risk/reward balance of making money on the TP. It ensures that people ‘behave’ and use the TP as intended as well.
I don’t have a problem with people making threads about mounts …. none of them have demonstrated what purpose they would serve the game or a problem they would solve. Therefore, haven’t given a reason why Anet should waste their time coding them in.
Show us the benefits vs. the costs, then we can have a real discussion.
For thouse of you (and there are many!) that think that zerker build is the only good dmg build.
You are so freaking wrong!!!
i hit twice as much with my condition ranger then i do with my zerker chars.
Those that are making squads and only accepting zerker builds aren’t very smart ….
As much as i would like to believe it, you don’t support that with any data. In addition, it conflicts with the work that has been done showing where the best damage configurations for each class come from … condition damage isn’t it for any of them.
Perhaps you can qualify where you experienced this ‘doubling’ of your damage using condi ranger vs. …. whatever else. Then we can have a real conversation.
Sigh … Anet isn’t more likely to answer you in French, considering that they are in USA and all.
I don’t understand why Anet doesn’t simply make them available always (I’m not a marketing expert) but as long as everyone has access to purchase when the tools are made available, that’s a good balance between fairness and … whatever else Anet wants to happen by making them available for limited times.
Basically, it’s a marketing trick. People are more likely to buy when the item is labelled “limited time only”, even if the company fully intends on bringing the item back at some point in the future. I find it somewhat distasteful, as it preys on customers who either don’t realise the trick or who are more impulsive in nature.
It’s what I thought to but the reality is that it’s what people do and Anet is a business. It’s exactly the market they want to target “the average joe” and that’s how the average joe spends money; on impulse. I’m not so bothered by it because if they didn’t, they would have to raise prices.
The designation isn’t relevant anyways. It’s a pedantic argument.
Why bother? Don’t, not worth it.
You can reach the third highest single target damage, IIRC (although I have heard some people question that), but you bring very low support, and the little you do bring others will do better.
I have no idea where you heard a silly number like 3rd highest, it’s more like 2nd worst. I suppose there could be some room for debate whether they’re worse than rangers but either way it’s either worst or second worst.
How’s about this … instead of arguing about it, support your claims with whatever data you have. I would love to see why there is such a big difference between opinions here. Just an idea.
Opportunity has to be available at all times for it to be fair.
I will have to think on that but my initial feeling is that there is an element of timing involved with opportunity and yes, Anet is bringing these things back because they haven’t reached saturation in the market with the offerings. I don’t think we have any worry that we won’t ever see them again.
I don’t understand why Anet doesn’t simply make them available always (I’m not a marketing expert) but as long as everyone has access to purchase when the tools are made available, that’s a good balance between fairness and … whatever else Anet wants to happen by making them available for limited times.
If someone can’t purchase the gems needed to buy because they are between paycheques, they have bigger problems than missing out on an MMO.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Given everything that’s happened, I wouldn’t rule out more power creep for future gathering tools, even though I think that would be a mistake. It would create a community of the “haves” and “have-nots”, where a rich player who’s willing to pump extra money into his characters upon starting would have an undeniable advantage over a poor player starting from scratch. Is it “winning”? No, but does it create the perception of an unfair playing field? I’d say so.
Perceptions are based on observations but people don’t always come to the correct conclusions. Being unfair implies someone didn’t get the opportunity to get the tool that someone else had. This is not the case … the tool was available to everyone and we even have two methods to get one!
If you didn’t have the gold, you could simply buy gems. If you couldn’t buy gems, hopefully you had the gold. If you had neither, that’s STILL not a fairness issue.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
I think the effect of more information would simply to arm the more savvy marketeers and enable them to make even more gold. True that it would likely drive prices of materials in certain directions faster but for the average guy, they are not more likely to be able to gain wealth any easier on the TP with more info than is already available.
the TP savy people are already doing that stuff.
Yes, and they are going to do it BETTER with more info while the noobs with no clue will be drowning in info they have no clue what to do with … because they already AREN’T using the currently available information. Let’s be really honest here .. there is ALREADY enough information available for people to play the market, it’s simply not in the game. Still, nothing prevents people from finding that information unless they don’t know about ‘the google’.
By all means, I support more ingame info but let’s not pretend it’s going to equalize earning between knowledgeable TP barons and noobs. It’s simply going to make those market savvy players more enabled. There will definitely be more information if people want to use it but people that have ‘bad’ buy/sell behaviour won’t be a benefited as I think we would like to see.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
If someone is running Celestial, I can’t see why they wouldn’t consider running Divinity runes as well; they both improve your baseline stats. Of course, I would question the use of celestial in the first place.
I think the effect of more information would simply to arm the more savvy marketeers and enable them to make even more gold. True that it would likely drive prices of materials in certain directions faster but for the average guy, they are not more likely to be able to gain wealth any easier on the TP with more info than is already available.
This is just of the love going around … people who insist on certain standards of play have applied these kick tactics to those that don’t meet their standards. This in turn has trained others to act accordingly for their own reasons. Now it’s being applied to very experience players. Too bad people can’t just accept others that play how they want in their groups in the first place; now we have little cliques to deal with when PUGing and we have to accommodate every version of ‘meta’ being encountered to avoid kicks.
There is some irony here. I’m sure I don’t need to say what it is.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Is this another one of those threads where people compare Guardians to Warriors because the both have heavy armor, so logically, Guardians should be as good as warriors in every aspect of the game?
Why, yes it is.
OH my bad. Good to know thought.
I am sure it will come back sooner or later, you know when they need a boost for the fiscal quarter or something. I personally will not buy the watchwork pick, nor any other item from the gemstore because of the watchwork pick since I feel that the pick is vertical progression/p2w.
You know, you undermine your legitimate concerns about convenience item vertical progression when you throw the laughably inaccurate “p2w” in there.
I swear, p2w is becoming the “Godwin’s Law” term for this forum…
Agreed. As much as I have no issue with some restricted vertical progression being sold to maintain the game’s development, the idea it’s P2W is nonsense. If someone wants to P2W with the gemstore, they would have to be an idiot to do anything but exchange those gems for gold.
Oh well … someone’s got an axe to grind. At least Anet is predictable … a few posts won’t deter them from their approach to the game for now at least.
Here is the kicker … even if the data suggested flipping is actually bad for the game … Anet would know that better than anyone and they STILL have decided it’s not going to get changed!
Resume QQ.
OP doesn’t really specify what he wasn’t to do but camping sword in PVE … is poop. Guardians get big damage increases with GS/SW swap because of WW and symbol. Sw is just the down time on recharge because of it’s big auto damage coefficient. Otherwise, it’s not that good in of itself.
Yes, it’s part of that max DPS combo with GS but unless he’s running meta in specific content, swapping sword/GS to max damage is rather pointless anyways.
Frankly, without more specifics on how these weapons are to be used in what content, being versatile with GS and Scepter+Focus is my advice. OP doesn’t sound like he’s ready to rush in and OD us all with Meta full DPS build in dungeons.
As an interesting side note; what is the damage decrease swapping between GS/Mace instead of GS/Sword? I can’t imagine it’s that substantial. Mace would lay down the symbol and auto of course in that rotation, otherwise the answer is: alot.

A topic from a guy with very narcisstic traits not willing to embrace the facts. Unfortunately, those poor beings are mostly not well educated.
… or acknowledge they lack the facility to be and/or not willing to be educated. Seeing that alot.
OP just wants to hear someone agree with him and make him feel like his ackwards-bassed thinking isn’t a singular point in the universe. Unfortunately, the approach taken is so unorganized and nonsensical, even the people that agree would have problems saying so.
Are you serious?
You’re whole argument is flawed. “An exotic should be sold for an exotic.” It’s more than an exotic, as has been said multiple times now. “It should be sold for the price of a crafting material” a precursor is a crafting material, so yes it is being sold for the price of a crafting material.
You are being ignorant of peoples answers and expecting a dev to respond to someone making “demands.”
1>so you are saying that 1000g is a fair price of a crafting material?
2>last time i cheked it is an exotic
3>it is not an argument it is a topicpeace
There is nothing that defines a ‘fair’ price for anything in this game (and consequently, the process of making a precursor does in fact dictate that 1000g is a fair price). The fact it’s an exotic is irrelevant to it’s price and finally, people are free to inform you why you’re wrong, so the next time (god forbid) you decide to complain, it’s more coherent and fact-based, as unlikely as that is appearing right now.

condi guards are also glass, so burst them.
Somewhat true. It’s hard to make a successful burning guardian without using 6/4/x/x/x or 6/x/x/x/4 as a base now. Not much place to put those last 4 trait points. Burn PVP Guardian will need 2 offensive stats and one should be Condi obviously. Reliance on condition damage doesn’t make a Guardian more enabled to outlast.
On the other hand, there are many stat combos on amulets suitable for condi and combined with the right sigils/runes, it’s a pretty wide spread of options to make good burning. Burning PVP Guardian builds are definitely not predictable but you can probably be assured if you are getting VERY short and frequent blasts of burning for around 1K damage, they have a 6/x/x/x/4. Cripple/Immobilize them and go ranged ASAP.

The answer to why Dawn went from 20 to 1000 is: Inflation.
The answer to exotic costing more than ascended is: Exotic designation doesn’t determine price of weapon
The answer to your other question about fairness is: YES, it’s fair
I’m pretty sure the answer to the question if Anet is serious is: YES, they are.
You can’t really blame people for focusing on these points; to most people the answers are obvious and reasonable. Anyone asking them is instantly assumed to be a massive troll/QQ.
i didn’t ask you unless you work for anet …i asked anet..
answers from anet and openion( agree or disagree ) from playersgot it? if you don’t ill pray for you
peace
Well, you made a post on an open forum established for the players by Anet where players make posts to communicate to each other … you should expect players to answer you, especially if the answers are obvious. Ignoring them doesn’t make those answers less relevant.
I mean, you’re actually expecting Anet to tell you why Dawn has increased from 20g to 1000g and their answer is going to be different than the one provided? What exactly are you expecting? A detailed thesis complete with some economics textbook theory … from Anet devs no less? You would still continue to QQ about the price even if provided the most through explanation by the most authoritative individual, so why would they even bother? Your no different than anyone else that has ever complained about this.
You’re obviously new here … I can save you some aggravation if you would like.

I’ve farmed long enough to know that there are areas where T6 nodes will most likely be found. For example, there is a pretty good probability that there is an Ori node in the tunnel to the shipwreck in the south area of Cursed Shores.
Unfortunately, there are enough of these zones to make it most efficient to plan a minimum path through the zone, hitting as many of the probable zones to find the mats your after.
TLDR: there isn’t a fast way to get these things anymore. Exploration is the best approach to maximizing your gathering.

You likely didn’t find info because the answer is something people don’t expect:
Whatever you want to do.
There isn’t any ‘endgame’ content so to speak; there is no content that ‘unlocks’ for you at level 80 IIRC. Most of what you know and have been exposed to as you level will be what you do at level 80. As a list of things that could help you out:
1. Openworld farming – likely everyone does some of this. Not the most exciting
2. WvW – A mix of PVP/Open world activities
3. team PvP – This happens in Heart of the Mists. It’s small team on a small map. Constant PVP action.
4. Edge of the Mists – Another mix of PVP/PVE stuff. I don’t really get the purpose of it.
5. Dungeons running – Gear up and farm those dungeons
6. Fractals – It’s a series of random dungeon-like encounters that increases in difficulty as you continually complete them.
6. Living story
Dude, All is not lost. AFAIK, Anet can roll your account back if you contact them and tell them your situation. You will lose everything from now to the date of the rollback BUT … you will likely be able to get your org back. Anet is pretty responsive to this kind of thing from my experience.
Oh yeah, another winner quote:
i am not going to buy a legendary from TP its a scandle and its just for lazy ppl
Yes, Legendaries are now just for lazy people … because only the laziest people can earn what is necessary to get one. ROFL.
i still don’t understand why you ppl focused on the 20g part…but that’s just how your mind works i can’t blame you
People are focused on it because it’s one (of many) nonsensical statements you are using to claim something is ‘wrong’ when it’s simply your lack of understanding. If a precursor was ever 20g, whenever that was, I can guarantee that it was as difficult to get 20g at that time as 1000g is now. The pricing of everything is more or less relative to the mats that get used to make it, within variation of course but I won’t bother explaining what that means because it’s too far over your head or your just not willing to listen.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
There isn’t anything obvious or simple about the current prices for precursors. You oversimplifying the problem. The precursors were NEVER cheap because the prices you are comparing are RELATIVE to other materials in the game. When precursors were 20g, 20g was ALOT of gold and that that point in time, no one would have described a 20g item as cheap. It’s no different than saying a car 30 years ago was ‘cheap’ because it was only $8K. Back then, $8K was not cheap.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
i did not say it was close to the price of the legendary i am saying it is probably will …
Probably doesn’t matter though … think about how that sounds … it sounds silly. Please change this because it MIGHT happen … RIGHT. IN fact, it probably wont … the difference in the legendary/precursor price will always be related to the sum of the price for the mats needed to craft the legendary, not including the precursor. That’s what has always been the case, there is no reason to believe otherwise.
ask your self one question>what about ppl that are passioned about legendaries and want more than one what about ppl that want all of them for example ? >is it fair to buy eatch “precurcor” with 1000g if not more…
What about them? I don’t see your point. Are you suggesting we make it EASIER because people might want ALL the legendaries? Why should it be easier to get if you want MORE of them? What kind of logic is that? Are YOU serious? I’ve come to the conclusion you can’t be. That’s just ridiculous.
please open your mind read and think outside the box and please don’t let me repeat what i said because i won’t
Don’t confuse being open-minded with ranting, illogical statements and poorly thought out suggestions.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
i didn’t say that the price should go down to 20g …all im saying is that 1000g is not a price of an an axotic weapon or a crafting matierial
so the real question is …is legendary even worth crafting it since its price getting closer and closer to the legendary it self?
peace
Obviously you haven’t grasped the idea that the designation of the weapon doesn’t determine it’s price. It’s not a logical connection to make. Prices for ‘stuff’ is really determined by a few things, but never what it’s called or some defining label attached to it.
There is no legendary that is ‘close’ in price to it’s corresponding precursor. There never was.
Not the OP’s point.
To be fair, the OP at best made an incoherent rant but what is clear .. he’s after cheaper.easier to get/more frequent precursors. Whatever it takes to allow him to get one because he’s unwilling to get one at the current price.
I don’t see the issue … precursors rise in price inline with the general increases of other materials price increases. That’s what any reasonable person would expect to happen. It’s all relative.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
The topical point is just more of the typical nonsense we see on a daily basis here … Set a fixed price on items based on it’s rarity? We all know that’s not how GW2 works now or can it ever work that way. (BTW, even if precursors were a fixed price … do you REALLY think it would be priced like a ‘typical’ exotic, whatever price that is?)
Why even suggest such a thing … unless someone is clueless or simply venting frustration … Thread is close-worthy.
If people actually made threads structured in a way that wasn’t just a bunch of QQ, then the forums would fix themselves.
Perhaps the real fix is for Anet to provide a template people need to follow if they want to provide ‘feedback’. If they don’t use it or abuse it, it’s dealt with swiftly. Perhaps limited access (read-only, limited posts per thread) is also a tool they should use.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Maybe you need to be clearer as well on who you consider to be customers?
Why, so you can just argue some more?
I don’t know what your post has to do with the fact that Anet funds development with gemstore sales. They do. The content is also meaningful to people that play the game because they want it, they get it and they use it … and they also complain about how some of it is obtained. People disliking gemstore sales, TP, gem:gold ratios, etc … is not a general indicator of overall customer satisfaction.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
i said that an exotic weapon/item should have a price for an exotic weapon/item
This makes no sense. Nothing has a set price … Price is completely determined by the market. It’s designation is of no consequence.
They use that argument because using a shield with the knockback function allows a player to choose a main hand weapon … using a hammer with that function does not.
