Which is irrelevant to this discussion as they are not the Sylvari civilization/race we have in the game…? They don’t seem to collaborate as one big civilization, but rather is every “tree” for itself. I don’t think they’d come running to the aid of the in-game Sylvari. And definitely not join them in taking over the world!

EDIT: To put a torch to something doesn’t necessary mean burning it. To torch a city could just mean razing it to the ground, regardless of preferred choice of mass destruction.

I’ve only been a Ranger for about a week now (just hit level 70) but it seems to me that there is one glaring problem with Ranger pets in dungeons: they die when a mob as much as farts in their direction!

They are too squishy for how dumb they are. By which I mean they need a lot more tankiness because the only thing they know how to do is essentially facetank all the damage. Even if they aren’t being targeted directly they are too stupid to move out of AoE or melee cleave.

Pets should get like 66% damage reduction whenever they’re inside a dungeon. Or something.

The problem is that you assumed the Pale Tree cannot fight. Just because it sits around and have an avatar that talks friendly it doesn’t mean it cannot hold its own in a fight. You are talking about a tree that size of a city. Think of the Nightmare Tree, 10,000 times bigger. Even an elder dragon would turn tail and flee.

It is essentially a city.

Cities can be besieged.

If the Grove and the Pale Tree falls, it is curtains down for the veggie people. The loss of their “capital” would be more devastating to them than to any other of the races.

What do you guys think is the best civilization/race, based on culture and economy rather than skills and questlines?
I think the Asura are the current winners, but will be triumphed by the sylvari at some point.

Sylvari are potent to become the master race in Tyria. They’ve only been around for 25, yet they have a capitol and are present all over the world. The dream is a better alternative to our genes, instead of giving characteristics to future generations, the dream provides the entire knowledge the race has gathered and also gives them direction and purpose in life. Imagine what greatness they would achieve in another 25 years. The only problem is that we don’t know yet how the nightmare court and the 6th dragon are linked.

The Charr have a great industrial economy, but their entire civilization is based on war. Our history has shown us cultures like that tend to collapse rather fast…
Humans fail on all fronts, they’ve lost every recent battle they had and even their own religion has abandoned them.
Norns are awesome, but they are just a bunch of drunk vikings.

Sylvari potential to dominate Tyria in the future? HAHAHAHAHA. Yeah… no, they are vegetables. As soon as the dragon threat is delt with, either the Charr or the Asura will nuke the Pale Tree and it will be glorious.

It’s either Charr or Asura who will conquer Tyria in the future, to put it simply, the one who manages to pay more Norn to on their side (but it will probably the Charr, as the have a mutual respect for each other, while no one is willing to work with the arrogant Asura for long).

There is also Palawa Joko and his undead minions, they seem to be doing pretty good, fighting of dragon minions and ruling Elona with an iron (yet mummified) fist.

And one should not forget Cantha, maybe weakened by the isolation, but who knows, maybe they are stronger than ever, ready to retake all of Tyria in the name of humanity?

Don’t you even think about nuking the pale tree. By doing so, you would be destroying Tyria’s ecosystem. Therefor, you would be killing yourselves.

Anyway, the Sylvari are probably the strategically weakest race due to their reliance on The Pale Tree to replenish their numbers.

Take out Hoelbrak… pfft. That is just one (albeit big) homestead. There are countless other Norn settlements.

Take out Black Citadel… the Charr have military outposts scattered throughout their territory.

Take out Divinity’s Reach… Humanity have other fortress cities á la Ebonhawke.

Take out Rata Sum… Granted, you’ll take out the Council, but they were corrupt either way.

Yeah, screw this crap. Even if you do lay down accept it and try to change your password it does not work – the fields will just turn blank again without any confirmation of rejection of your password change.

What really grinds my gears is that this locks me out of the game as I can not bypass the stupid screen that forces me to change passsword!

Precisely! It does make me ever so jelly when a Son turns into “berserker ice mode” and throws his Corrupted Skeggox complete with an icy axe projectile.

Really? I find the daytime skins to be some of the more well-designed in the game(look at the Greatsword). The cool glow during nighttime is a sweet bonus.

The worst part is that the way the Legendaries do it isn’t “legendary” in any way; that is how it should work by default.

Saying that Frostfang’s special effect is that you actually throw the axe you’re holding rather than a cheap generic skin cheapens the Legendary feeling immensely!

That’s beside the point though; all axes should be like Frostfang when thrown, with Frostfang being even awesomer yet. It isn’t “legendary” it is just something that should happen regardless of which axe you throw.

Frostfang’s “legendary effect” should be default for Rangers is what I am trying to say.

No thrown weapon in the game uses a modified projectile graphic except legendaries, far as I can tell. No matter what weapon you’re using, you always get the default basic axe when using Ranger mainhand axe, you always get the default shield when using the Engineer Throw Shield skill, the default dagger when using Crippling Talon, ect.

I know, it is the same for Warrior when using 3 with mainhand Axe. However, that’s just one ability. I can forgive them for that.

For Rangers, however, it is all about throwing your Axe so naturally I assumed they had put some extra effort into the Ranger Axe skills….

What a downer. I made a Ranger solely for chucking Axes, I don’t care about the Bows. Now I don’t feel like continuing to leveling her because I’ll get shafted in the end. As you said, the devil is indeed in the details and this is bugging me a lot.

You gotta ask yourself one question:

Do you use a banner?

If the answer is yes, then you must pick Longbow. The ability to stack Might for everyone around you far outweighs any pros of the Rifle to me.

Tactics? Contrary to popular belief, Norns are not stupid.

Technology? This is a sword: this end is for holding, the other for stabbing.

Strength in numbers? Lore-wise, a single Norn might very well best an entire Charr warband in combat.

That may be so, but I’d like to see any of the wimpier races beat them in a fight.

A lot of mobs have special aggro rules, especially bosses. A good example are the Riflemen in CM; their priority is reversed in that they like to snipe those with the least Toughness/Armor.

Dual-wielding anything but a weapon and shield is highly impractical in any real-life scenario for that matter. They used to use small daggers in fencing etc. but even then it was just to block/parry incoming blows moreso than to have twice the stabbing power.

Not to mention that Elementalists are hardly a subtle Profession, with all the firey infernos and whatnot.

The Asura advantage is minimal at best.

It depends on the axes, really. Some are just so different (like the Corrupted Skeggox I mentioned) than the default model that it is really such an eye-sore as well as a letdown after spending gold or time/resourced on getting them.

It isn’t fair to Axe Rangers to be shafted like this. To add insult to injury, Sons of Svanir that do use Corrupted Skeggox do get an alternative projectile :C

Currently, only the Legendary Frostfang makes your projectiles different. This is a huge bummer for me. There is no point in getting any fancy skins if the axe you throw is still the level 1 generic skin you started out with!

So I suggest that all axes adapt from Frostfang and alter the projectiles to the model of the axe you’re using.

Yes it does actually. I’m not spending 80g on skins when you still throw the same dull generic axe projectile. It is fine for bows because bow skin has no impact on the arrows you fire, but you are throwing your axes here; the projectile should adapt when you’re using the fancier skins…

Elementalist is one of the top three PvP/WvW Professions already.

They do not need more goddies.

After some YouTubing I found it to be the case of Frostfang. However, as many Legendaries change projectiles and stuff I am not still convinced it is worth getting two Corrupted Skeggoxes (Skeggoxii?) on my Ranger…

If you get an axe with a lot of effects, like the Corrupted Skeggox, does that change the axe you’re throwing? Or are just stuck with a dull generic skin for the actual projectile?

You can’t interact with them to charm them, but you can attack them like any other mob. These are in Velin Vale, in Brisban Wildlands. Right next to the Juvenile Siamoth.

It is nice that you went ahead and added more waypoints in TA Explorable, but you forgot to add them in TA Story. There’s still just a single waypoint at the very start in there…

Norns are far stronger than their apparent size would suggest. They are not just large humans, they are giants of mythological strength. Lore-wise a Norn is far stronger than any of the other races.

Also, close proximity and damage are factors in aggro; both of which fit a berserker warrior.

True. But without Toughness you don’t start out as the initial aggro target. You have to earn it through DPS which hopefully means the mob is dead before you go down.

The first one is player-crafted. I recognize the coat. It is called Scoundrel I believe. The second is Karma from Orr.

That’s not how it plays out in reality where most of us live and game. Health pool means nothing without the means to mitigate damage and replenish your health.

Lore-wise, any Norn would beat any other member of the other races in a test of strength. For balance reasons, our player characters, or PCs, are nerfed through the ground in this regard.
