I believe that GRR Martin is writing the plot for it. So it should be done any time now or in 20 years.

Would that mean that LS3 is a Bleach style filler arc?

If you had to design a new LW Character

in Living World

Palador.2170

What we need/lack:

  • A strong male character (current contenders for that role are off on their own).
  • A warrior (Rytlock is a Rev, now).
  • An older character (Rytlock’s not that old).
  • A builder/craftsman.

What I’d like to see is an older male norn, one that’s lead a full life and done things. Raised a family, built a homestead, passed it on to his son. Someone that can forge a sword or axe, and build a table. Someone that can swing a hammer in the forge or to drive a nail, but also swing a mace or fire a rifle.

And most importantly, I’d like them to start taking on a role of “parental figure” to some of the guild as well. Let’s face it, the group is young. Not just Taimi, almost everyone in DW is young. The guild needs someone stable, someone they can talk to or lean on in times of trouble. Someone that can go with them to help them with their personal missions and issues when the Commander can’t. Maybe they won’t be going on every mission with us, but that just means that we’ll have someone making sure we’ve got a place to come back to.

That’s what I want for the group’s next member.

I’ll echo what others are saying about playing it at least once normally.

I would say that while most of the classes are fine for a first character, I would avoid Mesmer, Engineer, and Revenant. They’re great classes by and large, but tend to rely more on understanding how the game works to make them function. Not the best choice for learning the game from the beginning.

Lore-wise, you’ll find that you eventually want to play through the first three arcs of all races’ personal stories. (They merge into fewer storylines after that.) To better understand the overall story, you might want to try Sylvari first, as they’ve been front and center to a lot of the plot up until recently. (Plus, they can glow a bit in the dark, which is neat.)

If you have a level 80 and HoT, then I too suggest going to Lake Doric and getting the shrinking tonic. Then play a human. Asura are normally smaller, but they tend to bounce and flail a lot as they move. Human animations and proportions will feel more natural to you.

Of the standard classes, you have some choices. Engineer has the best standard jump skill, with Rifle 5. Thief has a better elite spec jump skill, with Staff 5. Elementalists have a couple of tricks, like Mist Form, that can be oddly helpful in a few JPs. And, of course, Mesmers have portals.

All classes have a falling damage reduction trait, if you care to take one.

I think you have forgotten that he gave the oath out of blind stupid love on first sight. Some fairy tale bs. And then he lets Snaff and Glint die because his Queen oh so needed his help (No she didn’t, she is far stronger than Logan and we see this again in ep 4).

I’m pretty sure he had no idea she could do that when he went rushing off to her rescue. Also, I seem to recall that HE was the one that released the charr prisoners in Ebonhawke to help defend the city during that final fight. That’s the really impressive thing he did right there, he convinced a bunch of prisoner charr to take up arms and fight alongside their lifelong enemies against a greater threat, and it did it quickly.

Logan is very much a heroic character. When that fails, he seems lame. When it’s the right moment for a hero to step forth, he shines. I think the announced role change for him in LS3 is just what was needed.

I’d hate to see mounts in this game.
But I think it’d be OK to ride Aurene in some big story related fight once.

They’d have to use some size altering magic to explain it. Otherwise, you’d need her to be the right size for both the smallest of asura, and the largest of norn/charr.

That just isn’t going to happen.

Speaking as a Mesmer...

Palador.2170

Not only is everyone a mesmer, they all make me (the player) feel like an incompetent twit when it comes to abilities! Multi-Mind Stab? Portalling at a distance wherever you want? Endless invisibility? Being able to make your illusion fight for you all the way through its health and then you appear elsewhere? PERMANENT CITY SHIELDING?

I think we can forgive the Queen her tricks, because she actually states that they’ve prepared defensive wards in case of an attack, they just need to activate them. As for her other little trick: I think that was actually the Countess with a sniper rifle picking off targets as Jennah pointed to them, with a bit of illusion to make it seem as if the Queen was doing it.

The others, though? Yeah, it’s really bad. They need to tone down the skills on the White Mantle so they’re more in line with ours. Does that make them underpowered? Well, yes. But when the main character, the Commander, walks into a crowd of them, they should really feel fear. The MC by this point should be one of the nastiest combatants in Tyria. If you need to boost the Mantle some more, you need to add numbers. They should be calling for a zerg to take us on, not the other way around.

Flax Seed Harvesting node Question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Palador.2170

Palador.2170

The Flax node was one of two home instance nodes that were not in the Black Lion chests for very long before they changed how they load the chests. This has made the Flax and Iron nodes much more limited in supply than any other node.

Add to that that you need a ton of flax, and iron is used in two tiers of crafting, and the prices won’t be coming down any time soon. However, they’re only really worth it if you’re planning to hit your home instance for other stuff already. If you plan to fill yours with nodes, then you might want to keep it. (Though, selling it might get you multiple others.) If you’re not doing that, then sell it.

First story part was good, I liked it. All the other parts until the end need work. Go to new zone. Tour new zone (which is likely to get you doing hearts and events as you go). Now, go back and do/redo a specific heart. Now, go back and do more events to fill a bar. And finally, back to actual plot movement.

That’s awful. The story flows better if you run past everything on the “tour mission”, and it’s counter-intuitive.

Episode 4 release time?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Palador.2170

You guys hit the nail on the head: A power failure has a reverberating effect on things. It takes some time to power everything up after a outage, and the time lost in inaccessibility to the servers and the build can roll out to cause delays longer than the simple period of the outage. By that, I mean, if the power goes out for 10 minutes, recovery takes longer than that 10 minutes.

The team is continuing to work on this and thanks for your patience. (And your chocolate )

but what’s the specific status?

They’ve been unable to get the coffee machines to reboot. Caffeine withdrawal has set in, and tempers are running high. Interns were sent for emergency supplies, but contact was lost over an hour ago. There’s the disturbing smell of burning plastics in the air, and rumor has it that the art team has gone feral.

And aside from it being a typical patch day, they’re still a bit behind from that power outage yesterday.

Things That Need Sinks

Instead of making new sinks, they just need to bring back the Festival of the Four Winds. During that, you can trade in excess amounts of all sorts of things for rewards. If a vendor took it, and it was cheap enough, you could turn a profit by buying all of the cheap ones on the market and trading them in. They just need to make sure to add in a few more vendors to cover anything they need to that’s not already accounted for.

Yes, I know the Zepherites were blown out of the sky, but they’re not all dead. It would be nice to see the survivors trying to rebuild during the festival.

I believe the devs have said they’re not the same.

However, I think we’re seeing similarities for a reason. Magic in Tyria naturally falls into different types, such as “Death” and “Fire”. This holds true for both the dragons and the gods, it’s just natural that they’d fall into these types.

Which may also mean that the anti-dragon weapons may be god killers as well. If we figure out how to kill off all of the Elder Dragons, the gods might want to be VERY careful what they say when they return.

Thoughts on the next Expansion

Palador.2170

I think Primordus and Jormag are beyond saving. We’re going to fight them “normally”.

If they want to change things up, Kralkatorrik is where the story can get interesting. Once Primordus and Jormag are down, he’ll have a vast array of powers to draw upon. More importantly, the deaths of Glint and Snaff may have altered his mind, awakened it. Add Mordremoth’s influence as well, and Kralkatorrik may be the first fully aware and thinking Elder Dragon we get to face.

Imagine Kralkatorrik calling some people to him, and converting them into followers. They go out, and using the powers given to them, start to convert barren lands into fields of green. They quell the fires and melt the ice. They erect towers of vines and crystal, and welcome all who seek shelter. Their message? “Let the dragon’s influence spread, and he can rebalance the world once more. He is awake now, and means you no harm.”

What would we, the hero, do? Help? Fight? Either choice has us going up against something other than the normal dragon minions. Either choice will likely turn us against some of our friends. And even if the dragon turns out to be evil in the end and needs to be put down, what misdeeds will have been done before then? And how do you take down an Elder Dragon that’s able to out think you?

Things that need to NOT be on next exp.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Palador.2170

Palador.2170

I’m sure some of what I’m about to list is already mentioned, but if I read the whole thread and try to keep track of what is and isn’t mentioned, I’m going to wind up making too much of a mess of my own post. So, apologies for any repeating I’m about to do.

One kind of map.
Some people like the more open maps of the main world, some like the more vertical maps of HoT. Some like normal events, some like the zone-wide metas. You can’t please everyone entirely, but if you put in only one kind of map, you’re sure to disappoint some of us entirely. Yes, a mix means that everyone will have at least one map they don’t enjoy, but nobody will have to face an entire expansion like that.

A new currency for every map.
I wish I could say ANet has learned their lesson on this one, but it’s pretty clear that they really haven’t. Most maps in HoT and LS3 have their own currency. Stop it. (Yes, I’m counting Bloodstone Shards, Petrified Wood, ect. as a currency, because that’s one way to use them.)

A new type/level of Hero Points.
I’m sure ANet has already realized that some of us have characters that have gained plenty of hero points, but not spent them. The idea is that when the next expansion comes out, we’ll be done or nearly done with getting any elite specs that come with it. Don’t try to counter this by making them require special Expansion 2 Hero Points, or 800 Points (earned 20 at a time in expansion HP challenges). And don’t make the new elite require filling out the old elite, either. It’s not fun, don’t do it.

Overly confusing maps.
There’s a difference between complex and confusing. Complex can be good. Confusing is not. Better marked main paths, elevation changes, and well placed reliable waypoints are important.

Group Hero Point Challenges
Group challenges are fine, in fact I love the idea. Making them Hero Challenges is bad, though. Hero Challenges should be solo activities, so we can advance ourselves at our own speed. Put in the triggered group challenges as their own thing. And make them Points of Interest, so people trying to gather others for the event can call out the location on the map. (People that don’t know where “Bat” or “Spider” is will not go to help you when you call.)

One Shot Masteries.
If we go through the trouble of earning a mastery, it should be useful throughout the expansion and maybe beyond. Gliding is an example of a good mastery line. Exalted Lore is an example of a terrible mastery line because it’s of real use in one zone only. (Parts of it also make no sense for the story, but I can grudgingly forgive that.)

Raids.
Yes, I think raids were a bad idea, but I accept that more are coming. But they should NOT come as part of the next expansion. You’re still a long way from delivering on what was promised as the end reward for the HoT raids. Let’s not do that again. Raids need to be their own thing, separated from the timing of the expansion.

Lack of Dungeons.
Seems funny after what I just said about raids, I know, but there it is. The expansion should have a couple of them. Maybe not Story +3 Exploration paths, but there should be some. I would prefer if they could be soloed and adjust up for groups, but be more friendly for groups. Think of them as side stories contained within a large instance, that people can revisit as they wish. Just don’t go nuts on the rewards, nobody should feel “forced” to do them.

And…. that’s it for now, I guess.

Care to explain why the norn didn’t interfere in the Charr/Human war then?

As I understand it, there’s two reasons.

First is the fact that the Human/Charr war has always been just that, a war. It has never been anything else. Open and direct conflict, no political backstabbing or anything like that. (Yes, on each side there might be some of that, but not in the actual conflict between the two races.)

Second is that they’ve long considered both humans and charr to be allies. They can get along well with both, and usually do. So, which side should they take?

Palador.2170

As norn don’t believe in the formal Hierarchy that humans have, it’s reasonable for norn to assume that if Queen Jenna can’t maintain her rule, then she doesn’t deserve to rule. The only outside race that may have a stake in this would be the charr. If they value the peace treaty, the might be compelled to step in.

While you have a point about the norn views, I think that’s only for a fair contest to her ability to rule. Otherwise, it would be fair to say that the norn deserved to lose to Jormag, or to be driven from their homes by the Molten Alliance. They clearly don’t agree.

If Caudecus was to take over through political means, they would likely feel it’s her fight alone. But he’s not planning to “play fair” and meet her on the grounds of who’s the best leader, he’s planning on attacking her. The norn have no problems with defending an ally that’s under attack.

Now, as to the other races? Well, don’t forget that the White Mantle (posing as bandits) have strong ties to both the Nightmare Court and the Inquest, and there’s clear signs that they support the Separatists as well. If the White Mantle rises to power, threats to the sylvari, asura, and charr all grow.

Oh, and Lion’s Arch would be in trouble as well. That city used to be part of Kryta, and I don’t think anyone assumes that Caudecus would allow it to remain separate and free from his control. The Lion Guard would have to pull back to defend the city, so there goes all the guards on the trade routes. I’m sure the Sons of Svanir would appreciate that.

In short, if Caudecus and the White Mantle following him win, all the major races are going to have a harder time of it.

That’s actually an interesting idea. I don’t think it could be a personal instance because an entire city sized instance per person is a bit much, but I could see it as an ongoing instance that you need that item to get into. And I know some people would pay to have the option to revisit old LA when they want to.

Flames of Kryta cast no light.

Today in the Weyandt’s Revenge JP I discovered that the Flames of Kryta item, when used, no longer creates any light to see by. As this was the sole use of the item, I’m pretty sure this is a bug.

Also, checked with a different character that has Cobalt (burning greatsword that casts light), and a white quality torch I picked up. Light worked fine from both, so it is not a graphics issue.

Would you fight to reclaim Ascalon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Palador.2170

Before the charr, humans ruled Ascalon.
But before that, the charr ruled.
And before that, it was the Grawl.
And before them, it was the Forgotten, right?
And of course, before them all it was the Elder Dragons. Not the forefathers of the current Elder Dragons, THESE Elder Dragons.

For any human to claim rightful rule over Ascalon is laughable at best, and an act of utter idiocy. It is insulting to the lives lost in the Foefire to forget that it was humans that killed the most humans in that war. No single charr comes close to the body count of Adelbern, who not only slaughtered his own people, but doomed their very spirits to an endless war.

If you wish to honor old Ascalon, turn your gaze away in shame and learn from that mistake. Do not charge forward to repeat it.

when will we see changes to mastery system?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Palador.2170

Perhaps I didn’t make my point clear enough, basically I’m saying that Core masteries, and the mastery points that can be obtained to expand those masteries, is basically a legacy system, they most likely aren’t going to add to it or change it.

I think the failure to communicate was more on my end.

The OP mentions the Core Tyria masteries as example of a problem, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the only place people can run into it. And when the next expansion comes and adds in new masteries, the problem will get even bigger.

Any fix to the overall problem, such as removing mastery points or giving us a way to earn them with a repeatable mastery bar (like how one earns Spirit Shards if they’re done with masteries), may fix the problem of getting more points for Central Tyria as well.

when will we see changes to mastery system?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Palador.2170

When will we see changes to the mastery system. Because I’m still unable to max out my Tyria masteries because I’m not doing personal story, or any old living story achievements. It’s been about a year and there has been plenty of feedback on this system. Will there by any changes made to allow for alternativeways to get core Tyria mastery points?

I believe that they said that they had no intentions of adding on to the core mastery system. Core masteries is best to think of like a legacy system, even tho it’s only just over a year old.

I think you misunderstand the question. They’re not asking for more to be added to the core masteries, but for changes on how you get to them. Either new ways to get the points needed for the unlocks, or a reworking of the point system itself. Both of which might affect the entire mastery system.

Sadly, I really don’t think they care. It’s nowhere as big of a mess as the “events for traits” system was, and they took far too long to fix that. I suspect they’re going to just leave it as it is and convince themselves that it’s fine.

I love GW2, but dislike HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Palador.2170

Well, you got your wish. All 3 of the newest HoT maps related to LS3 are relatively easy to navigate and have metas that require little organization beyond simply showing up. One more and you’ll have an even spread.

@Healix, I also wish things were more accessible. However, as this thread makes clear there are vastly different tastes in this game. How do you reconcile players like myself who love the vertical, maze-like maps, higher enemy difficulty/density, and organized meta events with players who prefer Queensdale? It’s a tall order!

It’s a pity that the new LS3 maps don’t do anything to help you earn your elite spec. If you want that, you still need to trudge through HoT.

As for your second point? You make separate areas for them, and make sure that the path to the “casual” stuff doesn’t require passing through the other stuff. The more difficult areas should always be optional. Rewarding, maybe, but optional.

That doesn’t always mean seperate maps, either. Let’s consider a JP set in a mine, with a 10 HP point set at the end. There are two paths to the end. One is fairly short and straight forward, a couple of jumps and maybe one normal fight, and you’re there. The other path is longer, much more complex, and has multiple difficult fights. But it also has a couple of chests, and maybe a rich Ori node along the way. It’s more difficult to set up than a normal JP, but it allows for both styles of play.

It is possible for Tyrians to write and speak. /shrug lol

Yes, but none of the people that know about her would go telling everyone, right?

Personally, I’m going to guess that he has an agent in Rata Novus that has managed to beat Taimi’s security, and placed taps on all of her equipment. What she sees, he sees.

Predictions for Episode 4

In other threads, I’ve expressed my ideas on what’s been up with Rytlock (He’s blind, and can no longer perform his official duties, but was trying to hide that for pride’s sake.) I expect that we’ll get to see at least part of his “trial”, and it will be trial by combat. They want to know how powerful he is, after all.

I think next Episode will take us after the White Mantle again. We might visit Hoelbrak to start, but that’s going to be given time to get worse before we get to address it.

Kill Braham, Marjory off in story

in Living World

Palador.2170

Personally, I would prefer that the Commander continue to be depicted as a mature individual who leads by providing a good example. I would prefer that the Commander show restraint when a friend acts out in a temporary display of pique. I would prefer that the Commander try to repair relationships diplomatically instead of instantly writing them off. Because these are the things that mature people do instead of screaming abuse and knocking people around whenever things don’t go exactly as they wish.

I agree, and right now we could mend things with Braham. In fact, the Commander was trying to be nice. Braham wasn’t having any of it.

The real problem is that we see where Braham is headed, and it’s going to get a lot of people hurt or killed. At what point do you give up on diplomacy and employ more drastic measures (not necessarily violence) to stop an oncoming tragedy? Instead, we’ll have to stand there and watch it happen, and then accept Braham back with open arms no matter who he’s killed. We don’t want that. (Or, at least I don’t.) We’re speaking out now to let ANet know that’s crap storytelling and we want better.

Suggestion: Mythic Rarity Equipment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Palador.2170

I still don’t understand how this makes the game better for most of us: swapping gear is already relatively cheap:

  • Exotic gear: an exotic inscription/insignia plus a few T6 mats.
  • Ascended: the same exotic inscription/exotic plus 5 ecto

Wouldn’t it be better for ANet to spend the time on build templates to make it more convenient rather than inventing and balancing a new tier?

The improvement would be that you don’t need to pay those “cheap” costs, it’s already paid for. Nor would you need to go to the Mystic Forge to do it, just get out of combat for a moment and you can adjust as needed. Nor would you need new inscriptions.

As for inventing and balancing a new tier? Well, the balancing part is already done. It’s the same stats as Exotic. The inventing part would be the stat swapping, I guess? But that too is already in the game, for Legendary gear. It’s in for weapons, and if it’s not in for armor and trinkets, it will still need to be developed for them anyway as they’re introducing Legendary armor (and I’m sure the trinkets are right behind).

If the idea doesn’t fly, it doesn’t fly. I can live with that. This is just an attempt to take things we already have and mix them up to make a possibly better option for some people. Do we need it? Nah.

Palador.2170

So why would gear that’s better than Ascended be cheaper than Ascended? And for armor, isn’t that equivalent to Legendary? Other than appearances, of course.

But it wouldn’t be better than Ascended. It would have Exotic stats, but be more flexible because you can change the stats around whenever you’re out of combat.

Legendary armor will (should) have Ascended stats as well as the stat swapping ability. So, again, Mythic would be weaker.

New racial holidays

If every day is a holiday, there isn’t much special, that means A-net won’t make us as excited anymore and therefore won’t make as much sales during the holidays…

But you cann always celebrate meatoberfest with the charr – always!

Most countries celebrate more holidays than what we’re talking about. The important trick is to make them feel different from each other. If they all blend together, then yeah, that’s a problem. If they feel different, with different activities an things for sale, then it should be okay.
