Condition Duration: A Re-examination

I’d say higher condition dmg vs higher condition duration

1 short fights/ regular condition removal: condition dmg
2 long fights allowing for long durations (few or no cleanse): condition duration…

Mastery System = Fail

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I think Thee mastery system is mostly fine,

The rewards for having unlocks are -ACCOUNT- wide so after unlockig gliding on 1 character ALL your characters can glide, same for the rest. As most experience tends to come with the normal “hunt” for mastery points I had little probelms maxing most of them. I must admit I was at 58/49 mastery points for tyria (I still have 9 to spare after max levvelling those) and I CoF-ed my tyria levels….~10-12 hours of pure boredom and dropping flame legions by bushels later I finished my Tyria track. Had good fun though with ppl some on TS as well with music bot, bad jokes and a good drink.

As for HoT masteries I farmed points and did some spider mayhem, then went on to do events and Meta’s while trying to get the remaining 40 points or so i was still missing… With regards of slow experience gains:

-Use Food/Utility/Fireworks/Banner/guild booster for ~50%
-Use celebration boosters (or birthday boosters) for 100%
-Use heroic boosters/ experience boosters (old and new) for 50-100%

And make good time…. having + 200 – 250 % XP tends to help..

Well AC is -very- easily duo-able…

some small hints:

  • Asc WEAPON…( stats and values rest will be scaled back to 35…)
    With night dungeon set:
  • Sigil of Night (+10% in AC) 2gold30s (also useable in CoF/TA/SE/CoE)
    and
  • Sigil of Ghost Slaying (+10% dmg vs everything in AC) 2s50c or
  • Sigil of Force (+5% ANYWHERE) 11gold 50s

(If you’re artificer:)

  • Extended Potions of Ghost Slaying… (+10% dmg vs everything in AC , -10% dmg. received..) (Recipe 400 tokens) -CHARACTER BOUND!!!!

FOR 33.1% 26.5 % added DMG…

Ghost slaying isn’t that useful in AC explorable. Only “ghost” you encounter are: Kholer, Graveling Hatchling[s], Spider Hatchling and P2 end trap ghosts.
Rest are Gravelings, humans, oozes, trolls

I corrected it it’s now 11 gold more expensive though and Kohler is my main problem, rst is doable pretty easy , then again you can skip Kohler while solo..

What are best weapons in game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

The question is: “what are the best weapons in the game”? Best is defined as maximum kill— not style, not skins. Maximum damage weapons. Uber kill weapons.

Say why you think they are the best. Staff/scepter/sword/projectile.

Ascneded weapons (or legendaries) mostly because they have top stats, most other weapons have some form of skillbalance, If you see huge numbers you’ll likely also face a long recharge if you see lower numbers attack speed might be (and likely is) higher.

Of course there are low DPS weapons. But they’ll give your enemy conditions to work with…

But for biggest numbers in DPS:
Zerk build, Ascended gear, food utility, banners, Might and vulnerability stacks and fury… this tends to leave you with warrior greatsword… The F1 Burst skill while in berzerker mode tends to hit for 12-15k… which is okay for a single hit. Of course you can get up to 60k+ with hundred blades but it’s 8+1 strikes…

Of course you could try the same with a full zerk/sin ascended thief doing a perfect backstab (dagger) with all possible modifiers…

whats the best heavy armor class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Well in PvE a

Warrior

  1. PS/EA warrior(/berserker) is still mandatory for the 1000+ power boost and the 900 condition dmg it provides… I really, really, hate parties without a PS/EA warrior(/berserker)…
  2. S/T & LB Burnzerk Berzerker or S/S & LB Condition warrior has uses, but both really never were Meta.
  3. Shout Heal warrior still exists in the history book… it is a way to have warrior support, but it’s mostly harmless…

Guardian

  1. Guardian can do good DPS as a ZERK build, S/F and GS
  2. Dragonhunter can do good traps and has a decent ranged option…. Wells and LB
  3. Guardian can do good DPS as a Condi (BURN) build,
  4. Guardian excels at healing and buffing if you want.

Revenant

  1. Revenant seems mostky is a buffer in PvE using herald’s options for +50% boon duration, and often Fury (and occasionally regen) AOE spam with traits this will also give some might. and ferocity.
  2. It has options to be a healer as well.
  3. As a condi build it suffers having no ranged option.

In WvW warriors are not that abundant, and guardian pawns a lot, revenant seems to have found a place…

Why no condi reduction stat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

  • DPS (Hack n ’Slash)
Based on Power, Precision and Ferocity

  • The highest armor (= armor values + toughness and toughness food/buffs) ingame (~3200-3600) will reduce dmg by 40%… you’ll lose the option to do DPS dmg or DOT dmg in any serious amount…
  • You have protetction for an added 33% reduction of dmg
  • Food for -10% dmg…
  • You also have invulnerability and reflects for projectiles, you can also dodge or block, interupt, aegis, blind…

You have power precision and ferocity to raise DPS and weapon strength of course.

  • when buffed can have over 4000 power, raising the power 4 times above base
  • when buffed can have the crit of 85%-100% (spotter, precision banner, foods)
  • when buffed can have a ferocity up to 250% (thief with revenant giving bonus)
(Thief with ranger, warrior and revenant doing buffs, missing engi (vulnerability) and chrono for quickness/alacrity)
  • when using ascneded weapons you have 175% of base dmg (which is based upon whites) There are weapons specialized fo the use of DPS-builds, allowing for maximum use of the power modifier so DPS is raised way higher then other weapons more meant for support, CC’s or condition use.
  • when adding sigils you can add 5-20% dmg from sigils and +10% dmg from food vs certain enmies or while moving… and 10% from utility in soime cases
  • using the CONDITION vulnerability you can stack 25% additional dmg…

DPS is applied instantly, this means If I cxast my meteor shower on my fully buffed elemetalist I do 24 hits of 8000-12000 dmg… for up to 288 000 dmg if I can get them all on the hitbox….

  • Conditions (Debuffers, Corruptors, Inhibiters, Interupters) and DOT
Based upon Condition Dmg, Expertise and -TIME-

  • Condition dmg can be buffed to 3200, A condi Warrior is needed (banners) and a vulnerability source (condi-engi?), a condi ele (Fury), condi necro (Epidemic) and condi mesmer (quickness/alacrity), together they can make 25 might np…
  • Condition duration can be buffed till 100% (capped) (only usefull if ppl do not cleanse, not bringing any form of cleansing is you own fault, conditions are capped at 1 minute duration. (see blood is power bleed with full condi duration) This requires runes, sigils, food, certain armor and traiot selections and wepons only suitable for conditions with low DPS modifiers.
  • Some proffesions have +20-33% dmg on some conditions or some mods on duration. these are by no means universal.
  • some proffessions can corrupt boons
  • some proffessions can spread conditions…
  • and using the CONDITION vulnerability you can stack 25% additional dmg…

Conditions can be cleaned by

  • runes (trooper on shouts) for AOE cleanse
  • traits (pure of voice guardian on shouts, or warhorn cleanse from warriors)
  • sigil of purity (cleanse on hit)
  • sigil of generosity (send a condition to enemy on crit)

You also have

  • condition invulnerability (obsidian flesh (ele),revenant in mallyx)
  • invulnerability (will have conditions continue to tick, but will add no new for duration) AND
  • resistance (invulnerability to condition dmg.)
  • can be send back (revenant/necro)
  • can be blocked, blinded, aegis, dodged, interupted
  • reflected as projectile,

There is

  • condition reduction food,
  • condition reduction runes,
  • condition reduction traits

And then there’s the normal condition removal….. if you failed to use on of the above options. If you clean a condiution you remove the WHOLE stack… most skills apply 1-3 conditions at a time a few do 3+, 1 gives 6 (scepter 3 on mesmer gives 6 confusion on a 12 or 15 second timer…)

Damage is applied over time, Stacks need to be build up. in the end amount of stack ticks give a good idea of dmg. this is still not related to Condition DMG. Max duration boost is 200% (2) Base duration is 1 , base max stack is 10 stacks, max reduction is 40% (-0.,4) as this is all independent of condition dmg it sows a comparison for dmg taken…

  1. Without stack -> No Dmg, irrelevant duration -> DOT 0 * 0 = 0
  2. When ramping up with duration reduction -> DOT 5 * 0.6 = 3
  3. When ramping up without duration modifiers -> DOT 5 * 1 = 5
  4. When ramping up with duration boost and reduction -> good DOT 5 * 1.6 = 8 (viper’s vs any build with acces to decent cleanses, and reduction runes and food)
  5. When ramping up with duration boost -> DOT 5 * 2 =10
  6. Properly stacked with duration reduction -> Dmg over little time 10*0.6 =6
  7. Properly stacked without duration modifiers -> DMG over base time 10 * 1 =10
  8. Properly stacked with duration boost and reduction -> good DOT 10 * 1.6 =16
  9. Properly stacked with duration boost -> DOT 10 * 2 =20 (Viper Condi build v.s. non cleansing zerk build)
  10. When cleansed -> No Dmg (move back to 1)

1 &10 are situations with no dmg: start and reset
2,3,4,5 are 4 possible situations: you are in ramp up and you should decide when to clean & heal; add 4 to the most relevant number to get to the stage you would be in when you’d fail to cleanse.
6,7,8,9 are possible situations where you are eating max dmg and you will likely have no other options then hoping for a cleanse or kill. You shouldn’t be in this situation. To be in this situation means you didn’t invest enough in survivability vs condi builds as in the end you will only survive with cleans….

Stacking costs time…. Ramp up time should dictate the damage taken from conditions.. Showing half of MAX DOT if you cleanse conditions at the point where DOT maxes.

TO get an idea: this number of Stack ticks * Condition dmg is you final dmg from the stack to lower dmg you could boonstrip might from your condiution user lowering his max Condition dmg by 750 points when fully buffed whcih could be a 15-25% drop in DOT if you do not have a condi clean , buying you valuable time.

2-3 ppl with shout heals can completely nullify all dmg from conditions from this group of 5 ppl when they want to, If they w anted they could heal up the group as well so the 5 would need to start over… (guard shout heal, warrior shout heal, druid healer w shout clean)

Most conditions are limited to 125-500/ tick… Only 2 exceptions are Terror and Chill (both necro, both applying seious dmg on a condition build) Terror will do ~2000 dmg for 2 maybe 3 ticks and chill will do 800-1200 tick , but they cannot stack with more Terror or Chill… All reapers’s revolve around chill….

Conditions are more then DOT ( pure DOT is only: bleeding, burning)….
Conditions are extremely important also to DPS builds.

Conditions are

  • damage enhancers (vulnerability)
  • slows (slow, cripple, chill)
  • inhibitors causing dmg with actions
    - torment on move,
    - confusion on skill use,
    - poison on heal (well inhibits actual healing)
  • interupts (fear, stun, daze) =/= CC’s (knockback, knockdown, Push,Pull, Sink,Float)

I feel there is no need to get a condition duration reduction on armors. If It would be added we would need an additional reduction VS DPS as well to keep it comparable.

Yes Conditions ignore Armor. Most conditions are 125-500 / stack and the amounts you allow tyo stack is your own choice.
If you cannot handle the stacks, get more options to remove stacks.
You’ll need to drop traits sigils or runes (read DPS) to achieve this.
If you want Maximum DPS you pay for it in vulnerability to conditions and DPS.
If you want Maximum Bunker you pay for it in DPS or DOT output.
If you want Maximum DOT you pay for it in less DPS and more vulnerability to conditions
If you want all: you will be Celestial/Traveler which seems to have dominated PvP for quite some time up to a point where A-Net said, we’ll remove this stat from PvP cause it is OP…, BUT it isn’t OP, ity’s just versatile vs all and any builds, provided you are creative. So it can counter any build with decent play, which isn’t true for the “Maximum builds”.

Should be most things I can deep up from my memory regarding the systems in GW2, please feel free to add stuff I forgot.

Well I levelled on and found another player became chat friends added each others accounts, and after a while we became close friends.

We joined each others home instances for some good events and we started our own small community, we created 2 small new accounts and we are helping them level… It seems the right way to continue our game

My friend is epic: had a higher level home instance and a car mount…

Unfortunately the 2 small accounts we’re babysitting cost us a lot of time… It’s also one of the reasons I am less in minigames the last period of play….

But I hope we will reap the benefits in the future…

Pointless…. Well playing the game itself is pointless, like any and all games…

Games are a waste of time, and were created for this specific purpose. So in effect all time spend here is pointless and exactly the point as well….

Doubt skins, titles and builds really matter. The only reason you are here because you are trying to have fun. If not…. Well…. Just go and find another time sink.

The 3 "Damage Types"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I’d like to know why Conditions completely ignore Toughness.

That’s the advantage of Conditions, to counterbalance the fact that they do their damage more slowly.

Eh, that doesn’t fly in WvW Condi Bombs, lol. And don’t bring up Condi clearing either when it can immediately be reapplied.

Shout guardian (5 shouts) with pure of voice… runes of the trooper
Shout warrior (4 shouts) warhorn with condition removal… runes of the trooper…

Both builds can deal with some conditions… AOE…

Then there is plague signet necro…
you could rebuild ranger to use shouts (RaO, Sic’m HAO….(well mopre could work but I’d use 2 other skills)

And I have a couple of dmg types…

  • DPS (yes…)
  • DOT (my trailblazer/rabid necro feels honored…)
  • Tank (bunker) well nomads isn’t my thing tbh…

There’s also;

  • DPS/DOT Hybrids (war, necro, guard, ranger, mesmer, thief, engi, ele, and so on) They are way more then just DOT builds with some power…
  • CC builds
  • Interrupt builds (mesmer, Thief) interuptions to do dmg, proc skills, proc runes…
  • Healing/Boon builds (either with some power or some condi dmg to the side, Keeping all others of the group 90 % + health tends to be beneficial.. (guardian, elementalist, revenant, and some)

Best Greatsword class without HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Warrior
Warriors’ GS is mostly usefull in PvE, and as GS wielding brute, you either are a buffer (PS/EA Warrior) or just plain DPS. Both have limited roles outside PvE for example in dungeons or RAIDS.
With swords Warriors turn into condition builds, mostly build arount bleeding. It is a build whcih has been extremely niche. but I ran it with rampagers, and later sinister for my personal delight. It is not however -meta- in any gametype..
For WvW you would be looking to a Axe/Warhorn and ? shout heal build… Which is a passed station in the meta. most people considr any class other then warrior more usefull and the onlu real use of a warriors is the Warbanner.
For PS/EA other set is Axe/Mace, for S/S offhand is Longbow, for a shout heal it’s either Hammer (obsolete in present meta) or Rifle (or longbow))

Guardian GS and S/F was a powerfull dungeon build, but has no use in WVW. Alternately for PvE there is the Sinister Burn Guard whcih is a condition build solely focussing of burning.
In WvW you want Booners/Healers if we do not consider HoT
In WvW Scepter is a good ranged solution or the lootstick (staff), Hammer used to be an important weapon, but is less viable atm.

Ranger
Ranger can use Greatsword and it is a decent replacement for the normal (slightly superior, but way more useful and versatile) Sword/axe or sword/warhorn setups in places where a sudden big movement can kill you. (think of EotM) alternate weapons is normally Longbow.

Mesmer
GS is the mesmers DPS ranged solution. Staff is a condition/utility weapon and more viable short range tbh. Normally mesmers use sword/focus as main set and GS as alternate set. DPS memser is still used, though less most meta has shifted from S/F and GS to newer sets…

only if the maps get bigger and the way points are more Spread apart aka the Desert can’t realy have the Elona desert on Multipul levels maybe ground and a first floor but apart from that in the games current state with the small areas on Multipul levels gliders+waypoints are enough.

A dye whiter than celestial

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Well. That’s propably cause if you step out of direct light, there is gonna be some shadow, so it gets darker.

Yes that is true but this is the problem. Armor dyed Shadow Abyss does not look gray in light areas, it stays black. Whereas celestial changes color because it’s not actually white, it’s just the sunshine that gives it that white glow when you stand in sunlight.

as 0,0,0 doesn’t reflect anything, no differences in color

well 255,255,255 does reflect all.

I doubt your or my eyes for that matter would enjoy a 255,255,255 dye… It would make your whole character whiter then the radiant armor pieces white…

also having a white light source helps.. chaos torch?

You would be a walking lightsource… Sewems nice but not usable unless you dimm your screen, and lose the background.

Is Ascended Gear too Hard to Get?

Well I do expect ppl to be honest… If people are using DPS meters and/or stat checkers, either legal or most likely not, you could be blacklisted or kicked from your raid group, and or guild / comunity…, and it will be a bad move longterm…. it’s difficult enough to convince ppl you should be part of groups…

If something like this would sing around…. I am quite open minded I like buildvariety… I do not use checkers and consider ’m offensive tbh. but I have been kicked before for using water in traits on my zerk ele. and had flames for zealot armor on some characters as well… Luckily I noticed most ppl not minding a difference in play style… But I never did Raids anyways….

Just farming the mats seems slow and problematic, but tbh I have 6 armors now, and 9 pieces on 4 other characters, and close to 80 ascneded weapons… 79 I think, I still need to unlock the Ascendeds from the specialisations, I still need ~27 pieces for all characters i would like to give ascnededs…. but it has become a low priority long term goal…

1 hour a day of SW and 1 or 2 hours of CF a week….and daily fractals should provide ample income…

5 small remarks:

  • yes it’s pricey, but if you craft materials when availabel, and just take your time theend is less gains from mat sales and in the end all the ascnededs you need.
  • biggest hurdle is actually levelling your profession to 500 as this part reall y doesn’t seem to pay off (seem worthwhile) a whole lot… Then again this will allow you a lot of options later.
  • You used to have induvidual recipe’s for all armor stats but, with the introduction of the anthology of heroes at Miyani, Stat swap is possible so you should only focus and learn the cheapers way to craft armors you can then jut switch all. (Old 3 stats is definately cheaper to craft compared to the newer 4 stat options.)
I prefer Sinister. But there is no real problem crafting something else.
  • You do not NEED ascneded armor unles doing fractals 50+, RAIDS or being a WvW only player, having ascended Weapons however is preferable on power (and Power/ Condi) hybrid builds… condi really doesn’t matter that much..
  • Having and ascneded armor will raise your ARMOR rating (not your toughness) in some intances and it an cause you to get aggro when running with 4 other ppl in full exotics. (also potentially causing your to get killed before they do). so consider the reasons to aquire your armor.

Anyone else miss doing daily dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

yes I miss them,

It was a interesting and variable way to get your cash/gear/tokens in a “not allways relaxed, somtimes leetist environment ,with people having all the same idea how to completely and utterly abuse the last possible way of completion and thus corrupting any ideas developers had, and doing so very effectively, against the wishes and expectations of the former , now disbanded group of developers of the dungeon team”

There were also some problems with dungeons:

  • Full inventories due to crappy drops and other useless stuff e.g. all other things aside from gold…
  • True Noobies, allways enjoying ppl running the wrong way or getting completely lost as they are upacking their bags at the first small boss…
  • PPL not able to read LFG….
  • A-Net thinking the game would be better without dungeons being interesting content for the majority of the PvE group.

So ArenaNe decided to open up this easy instanced content:

  • they nerfed fractals to baby, toddler and infantile mode, firmly gated of course.
  • and destroyed the dungeon mode while introducing RAIDs.

RAIDS can be done in exotics, but only by ppl who did it daily since launch in ascnededs or Raids can be 5 or 10 manned without using any mechanics, which seems awfully familiar : a “not allways relaxed, somtimes leetist environment ,with people having all the same idea how to completely and utterly abuse the last possible way of completion and thus corrupting any ideas developers had, and doing so very effectively, against the wishes and expectations of the former , now -soon to be- disbanded group of developers of the the RAID team”

Thank you. Please do not feel offended by the truth.

Why did they call this game "casual "

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Well… Casual…

you can get gear while leveling for no cost until you reach lvl 80

@ lvl 80 you can aquire gear (armor, weapons, trinkets, basic upgrade components) though:

  • crafting
(relatively expensive due to costs of raising crafting level, but in the long run best choice)
  • dungeons
(you’ll need 23 runs in an explorable dungeon (preferably 1 for same stats) total for 1380 tokens for an armor if I’m right, you can also get weapons for 180/210/300 tokens)
  • drops
(Luck, or map clearing… both could give you high level exotic gear, whcih could contain valuable uipgrade components, or can be prfect to use yourself, all armors not being zerk tend to be reasonably priced.)
  • WvW
(with a couple of hundred WvW tokens you can buy an armro cheap)
  • karma
(with 252000 karma you can buy a lvl 80 armor.)

But then what could we do…

  • Log in for laurels for an Ascneded Amulet 1 month should provide you with 25-30 laurels enough to buy and amulet, it will be cheaper in laurels in WvW
  • Casual fractals (1-20) for Ascneded Rings 10 completed paths is 1 free ring of choice, Laurels could be used, but price is high and fractals will give other revenue, repeatabel as often as you want. Fractals will give acces to an easy (mystic forge (quiver/tome/fractal backpack) and a hard (lvl 500 crafting (unbound)) ascneded back as well.
  • Guild missions will give you acces to Guild commendations, You’ll need to join a guild or start one yourself… depensing on your expertise and the size and level of the guild you can harvest 1-12 comendations a week (if I’m right) with some gold and these will be exchangeable for ascneded accesoires,

With these items you can do about all things including mid level fractals (lvl 21-50)

Leaving only :

  • High level fractals (50+) (infusions, and HoT needed )
  • High end WvW (infused WVW sets) (infusions, a lot of badges of honor needed)
  • RAIDS (high end “elite” content) (Ascended trinekts and weapons mostly mandatory, armor preferred..
    as “impossible goals” .

These will require investments in Ascneded weapons, and armor.

As for legendaries, it’s a choice, legendaries will not give any stat or damage advantage over ascnededs. just an easy way to swap stats for no added cost.
In the future this will hold true as well for legendary armor , legendary backs.

But I have 2 Legendaries and I have changes stats on them maybe 2 or 3 times in the 2+ years I have ‘m… this because the stats will change, but not the sigils… and sigils tend to be expensive and the character you are playing on will likely have 1 set of gear only at the time you’re playing for ascneded and legendaries….

As for masteries, I used to level once / 1-1.5 hours (254k XP) making the 161 points of masteries take about 322-485 hours to level….

Provided you have the mastery points to invest and not playing with XP boosters as

  • birthday (+ 100 % XP, 24hr) or celebration booster( + 100 % XP,1hr) (don’t stack)
    but will stack with:
  • XP boosters + 50% (old 1hr) and/or new + 50 % (2hr)),
  • food ( + 10-15 % , 30m/1hr),
  • utility ( + 10 % , 30m/1hr),
  • banners ( + 5 ,10, 15 %, 1hr / 2hrs if you refresh ),
  • fireworks ( +10 % stackable duration (max 2 hour stack)

These when stacked give 250% added XP lowering the duration to
322 / 3.5 = 92 hours
482 / 3.5 = 132 hours

Providing you play the game and are not into XP farming… I did 10 hours of XP farm at HoT launch with full boosters and levelled tyria mastery (49 points) -fully- leaving me just to do the HoT part… in HoT I noticed I got most of my XP by just exploring, getting my masteries and doing map-events…

small question… you get 5% added dmg and 5% added stats and 5% added armor

  • so speccing for power: 1.05*1.05 times added dmg
  • so speccing for toughness 1.05+1.05 times added defence
  • so speccing for healing 1.05 times added healing….
  • so speccing for conditions…. well look into formulae before answering this… ot will never be 1.05 mostly because to forumla is a base value and a modifier is used before actual condition dmg reducing the effect of condition dmg BUT we got condition duration whcih did make a huge difference for DOT… problem though: the foods were nerfed and in the end there actually was 0 difference, actualy on 4 stat armors the condition dmg total actually went down, lowering the damage / tick… so you gained a huge amount of DOT without using food through introduced DURATION… but with food the dmg was just a hoax… and in the end values were lower, luckily we use Sinister/Viper’s (or Rampager or Carrion) to offset this in PvE, but tbh these builds also depend quite heaily on DOT not DPS (auto attacks tend to scale -very- bad)

You’re right….. and tooltips are still quite bad…

What will save this game in next expansion:

- New weapon types
- New races
- New continent (at least 12 maps)
- Events similar to SW (no HoT events)
- Better rewards (not just blue items)
- Mounts as cosmetics do not waste effort.
- Capes (no more wings)
- at least 36 new armor skins (12 for each class) only 2 armors/class?
- better wvw well if they wait till next expansion it will be a waste of effort as well, this needs to be here yesterday at the latest
- 2v2, 5v5 10v10 arena system Guild hall? Or maybe an event type like the Luxon/Kurzick clashes in gw1
- pvp armors and rewards pls do not make seperate armors place them in new dungeon tracks and also oblige the rewards for your next suggestion:
- 6 new dungeons with 3 path each
- 2 new raids only with Normal / Expert settings, don’t care for the present dungeons as I have ~1-2 hours of playing time an evening and ppl take 1 hour to group, so in the end I do 0-60 minutes of raiding (if lucky) and it’s no fun
- new and better crafting (fishing, treasure hunting, archeology or something…) Well what would you drag out of the water, dig up or something?
- rare monsters with rare drops Yes pls
- new fractals Yes pls….
- new elite specs yes pls
- no gating and no “we will nerf this so you must play that attitude” wrong, reinstate dungeons first
… and that my friends is worth 60$ and ppl who were mad enough to buy HoT in Ore should get 20,- reduction, repay me for my trust, which A-Net’s staff broke by lying: “No grind?, no gating, no more levels, easy accesible content, you choose what to play BUT NO DUNGEONS. Everybody should be playing everywhere BUT WE MAKE RAIDS ELITE CONTENT”

added a bit and gave small comments in bold

Also use older content but do not dare mentioning it as part of the expansion:

- Marionette
- Perma SAB (still hate it but it’s a shame to see it wasted)
- Dungeons v1.1 (buff bosses a bit to compenssate for ~20% added dps from ascneded gear) and return the rewards.
- Toxic Tower
- Bazaar of the four winds, The survivers should have build something new by now?
- Return to the molten dungeon path (add it to SE)
- Queen’s Gift a permanent rentree of the Queen’s Jubilee

- UP ALL REWARDS 1 LEVEL (junk is only for the completely numbed out farmer, instead give us 1 level higher then what we receive now. )

Get working!

Healing options: any class with healing stats…. even the ones I do not use, viability and succes depends a lot on your allies, as your DPS tends to be lower and most healing is focussed towards allies.

Consumables:

  1. Delicious riceballs: +100 healing +10% healing to allies
  2. Furious tuning crystals: +100 healing +5% of healing converted into ferocity or
  3. Bountiful sharpening stones: +100 power, +10% boon duration

Gear suggestions:

  1. Clerics
  2. Zealot
  3. Apothecary
  4. Shaman
  5. Magi
  6. Minstrel
  7. Nomad

Upgrade components

  1. Sigil of transference: + 10 % outgoing healing
  2. (Sigil of benevolence) + 0.5 % outgoing healing per kill, max 25 stacks (stacking no use in instanced content)
  3. (Sigil of life) + 10 healing per kill, max 25 stacks (stacking no use in instanced content)
  4. Runes of the monk: + 175 healing + 15 % boon duration, + 10 % outgoing healing

If possible:
Banner of Tactics: + 170 healing, + 10 % boon duration

Healers

  • Tempest (Elementalist) – Water/arcane/tempest healing build (staff or ?/wh)
  • Guardian – Valor/honor/virtues Mace/focus&hammer(or staff)
  • Druid – e.g. marksmanship/nature’s magic/druid, S/A & LB or Staff(s)

Support classes

  • Necromancer – bloodmagic/deathmagic/? D/F & Staff Transfusion/Vamp aura.
  • Warrior – Defence/Tactics/Discipline (hammer & mace/warhorn) Shout heal/banner
  • Herald (Revenant) Glint/Ventari healer, Staff & Sword/shield

I myself never used healers on mesmer (phantsasm regen, heal on shatter and so on), thief (heal when in stealth… venom share) and have little experience on engineer, but med kit and supply drop will provide some healing

You do not have a clue what loot he got unless they ping it. And he likely didn’t ping it as ppl seldom do so.

So you get a blue bag… I get blues and whites as well fighting champs in low(er) levels…
(mostly glass builds, viper/zerk/sinister/zealot)

They removed champs from 1-15 area’s mostly and in 15-25 I never seem to get exotic champ bags… at least nowadays,..

You should understand now most ppl are saying “well 2 blues and 1 green again” isn’t an exception, it’s a rule, Exotics are scarce, rare’s a bit less… same for champ bags. high level bosses give higher chance of high level bag. chance, not guarantee.

Is there a point to crafting I'm missing?

all those resources around the world and yet [people] buy the mats instead. for small quantity needs I can see it, but why are you buying mass quantities needed for the leveling process. You’ll cut your cost in half if you just take the time to gather.

Well, 400-500 huntsman takes like 318 ancient wood logs that you can collect 3-4 per node with nodes averaging like 3-4 per map.

So even in the best case scenario where you got 16 logs per map, you would would be looking at running over 20 different instances of Silverwastes back to back to get them all.

That doesn’t sound very fun to me even if cuts my costs in half, because I value my time.

The game is designed to have like a 100 different crafting materials that you accumulate very fast in very small batches. As a result, it’s more efficient to do content and salvage and then sell 40 of the crafting materials you receive to get more of the 10 then you need, rather than farm just the 10 you need. Anet has designed the game to make it hard to target the individual materials and gather a huge number of them in a short amount of time. It’s gone to war on farming in general, destroying anyway players find to farm an item.

This is so you use gold as the vessel to acquire the materials, which you can conveniently purchase at their Gold to Gem Exchange Market if you are missing any needed to buy the 19,410 elder wood logs needed to craft The Legend precursor.

Well… I crafted 80 ascneded weapons, and 40+ peieces of armor… Most of which was farmed.

Farming is not a “Oh now I need a weapon, let’s make it”-deal… at least not for ascneded and legendaries. I worked 3 months for my 1st legendary and 4 months for my second ingame getting mats and trading and such. (long before silverwastes)

Exotics are there to insta equip a character and maintain some form of basic gear. It allows for everything except for infusing… If you’ve been playing for a while and/or have more then 1 character at 80, you’ll likely have aquired options to get a second set of ascneded trinkets somewhere… allowing you to get basic infusions.

I have salvaged 743*200 item according to agent of entropy so a little short of 150000 salvages, I sold a lot of gear as well… ;and harvested a lot in the 3,5 years I’ve been playing, still I have no full stacks of anything… exceptr maybe the drops from the fractal chests, t5 fine materials are wothless…

Oh and if you wantr any of the new stats relaiible in exotic or asnceded you’d better craft them.

Many questions have been asked regarding build saving, and while it was integrated in gw1 it has been a request from players since gw2 Prerelease Beta…. and after 3.5 years no obvious steps have been taken, leaving our wish unfullfilled.

What did change: PvE, and WvW builds are saved in different files….. and your build (traits and skills) will autoconvert when moving from PvE to WvW (or back).
I don’t think there’s an auto gear swap tough…

Rangers with 2 pets out at once?

Outside the obvious mechanics allowing you to select 2 land pets and 2 water pets:

There is an actual way to get 2 pets at the same time!!

You can have 2 pets as a ranger, at the same time, or have 1 pet as a non ranger, temporarily: It requires the use of a consumble…

Ogre Pet Whistle: create an ogre pet to help you for 5 minutes (30m CD)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ogre_Pet_Whistle
Your ranger mechanics will not affect it as far as I know…

You could also get an Ember (Fire Elemental)

Fire Elemental Powder: summon a pet Fire Elemental for 5 minutes (30m CD)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fire_Elemental_Powder
No added synergies with elementalist skills and options AFAIK.

Especially the fire elemental adds a small dps boost, casting 3 lava fonts at the same time.

Is Guild wars worth returning to?

I think if you are looking at this game with the pure oldschool healer in mind you are doing yourself no favors and you undervalue this game…

Support/Heal builds aren’t and will never be -Meta-, but are not useless either.
While true healers are never NEEDED, they are VALUED by a considerable group ingame, but some part of the community will use any opinion to nag about playstyle.
Healers and supporthealers DO have a place in the Map Meta chains in HoT maps, WvW and to a lesser extent in Silverwastes for group(-event) fights.

This game in it’s old (non-HoT) format had healers, but these were not extremely popular due to to the “DPS” only views radiating from dungeons and the small acces to craftable healing armor with limited stats

  1. Clerics (Healing (*) ,power and toughness) and limited acces to
  2. Magi (Healing(*), Precision and vitality) and
  3. Shaman (Vitality(),Healing and condition dmg)).
    (
    ) = main stat

Introduction of new stat combo’s made healers more usable in instances and more viable, though healers remained mostly outside meta.

  1. Apothecary (Healing(*), Condition dmg and Toughness) and notably
  2. Zealot stats (power(*)/precision/healing) and more notorious
  3. Nomads (Toughness(*), healing , vitality)
  4. Celestial (All stats (pwr,pre,fer,cnd,vit,tgh,hlg))

HoT Introduced an improved version of Nomads but lacked any other improvements

  1. Minstrel (Toughness( * ),Healing( * ), vitality, concentration (boon duration))

Builds like

  • Fire/Water/Arcane ele,
  • Shout/warhorn ranger,
  • Hammer/Mace Guardian,
  • Hammer/ A + W Shout Heal Warrior
  • D/F & Staff Transfusion Vampiric Necro

all had uses but many have since been lost and/or replaced by

  • (Staff?) Zealot Druid DPS Support/Healer
  • Ventari/Glint revenant Support Healer
  • Dagger/Warhorn(or focus) Water/Arcane/Tempest Aurashare Rebound Tempest
  • Hammer/Staff Minstrel/Clerics Guardian Boon Support/Heal tank

I sometimes play some of these builds, and opinions vary, but facetanking 50+ fractals can be worthwhile change to all stress.

Still you’ll find ppl unable to cope with things outside the supposed highest DPS builds.
They cannot seem to understand rotations cannot be met in high level content without support, and actually taking a mitigator/healer will sometimes speed up DPS though the MAX attainable DPS for the group is lower. (Old rule: Dead zerks still do no damage)

(My full zerk DPS Staff tempet was kiced form party recently due to someone notcing I had a build being Staff Fire/Water/Tempest instead of Dagger/Warhorn or Fire/Lightning/Tempest? His opinion of me saying a additional cleans on swap had it’s uses while running through the swamp didn’t change and resulted in an insta kick due to not being 100% meta while it was an open LFG Fractals(56/67/77)… Yes this still happens, wonder what would have happened if I’d had joined with my Zealot/Clerics water/ arcane/ tempest aurashare build….)

I personally do not care for such amounts of elitism and shortsightedness and finished my Even Higher Fractals 67/77/83 30 minutes later with a different group without any problems.

Some positives:

The game is nice, most content is still repeatabe and ineresting and since the 1st release of fractals a lot changed in game, most for the better.

I think You will need to figure out for yourself if you want to play GW2 again. Healers have a new option with zealot armor and healing & concentration builds (which will likely and hopefully be expanded and buffed further from HoT’s minstrel stat combination alone)

If you do restart, get the 64 Bit version it’s way more stable, provided you have 6-8Gb of memory minimum.

Only parts of content which iere really dead are

  1. dungeons, after A-Net destroyed the cash reward and
  2. WvW due to the failing introduction of Desert(ed) borderlands

Well with your wings folded around you will, when wielding any bladed weapon, likely clip your wings, you’ll try to escape combat, jump of the mountain and …… fall to your death as you have damaged all your Feathers either in combat or when you drew your weapon….

What is the purpose of the game pre-end-game?

low levels are for learning: lore, basic mechanics and levelling crafting professisons and IMHO gaining mats for the (near)future… Also learning to navigate the reaches of tyria is one of it….

when reaching lvl 80, farming and all othe content is opened up (fractals, WVW, and Meta Maps (think hirathi hinterlands only bigger scale), gearing and customizing, world completion, HoT, and much more…)
