Condi necro isnt dead, not at all. nor is it broken.
25/40% of power to condi damage and 10% condi duration? So if you go power (say 2,2k power) you get 550-880 condi damage? Do you even pvp bro ?

A quick list of the utility changes that I think necros should get.

Well of Power: pulse a stack of stab to all allies, Make it a light field
Spectral Armor: 3 stacks of stab.
Spectral Wall: Reflects projectiles or grants 3 stacks of stab.
Minions: reduce all cast times to 3/4 second.
Flesh Wurm: either 2400 range on the port or make it instant cast
Spectral Walk: make character immune to movement impair for the duration.
Well of Darkness: Half the cd, or replace with a chilling well.
Corrosive Poison Cloud: Destroys projectiles
Spectral Grasp: Grants 5 seconds of retal.

Give us a few of these, fix corruptions, fix our heals, and fix up the poor weapon skills and necros would be in a good spot.

These are all very very good suggestions, they would go a long way . I think the devs have in their mind that necros shouldn’t reflect/dodge/block anything, they should absorb everything with their deathshroud, thats why we don’t see anything for projectile defense but we have good access to the protection boon.

Necros are tanky and as such, even if they lack mobility, will always be below the squishies in combat.

No this is absolutely not true unless you trait for tankiness through deathshroud. The tankiness outside of ds is super low, ask thieves or evisc warriors

Rampage breaks down most things, only counters are Plague and anything mobile enough to escape
i get why the defender runes though, it will either block the incoming interrupt on consume conditions and heal you a bit, or if an attack hits first that breaks the aegis and then the interrupt comes you still get some heal. And the mischief sigils to reduce the need for evades. Cool build, playing proactively:D

Terror, SoS, and CB do insignificant dps and do not deserve to be called a condition build. It is a CC build. Each of those skills have low up-time. It is the CC that allows the Necromancer to hit the opponent freely and the resulting direct damage does the work.

A bleed build supplemented by Terror, Dhuumfire, and runes/sigils is Necromancer’s only condition damage build and it does poor dps compared to other professions. Dps ramp-up is slow, too.

Do you read what you write? Especially the first 2 phrases?

Necro is considered as condi bomber at least the 2 years ive been playing, we were never too good at the attrition style playstyle because we had poor health sustain and we couldn’t drag out a fight. (before someone mentions DS regen, life force regen in condi builds was never too good if you wanted to pick up SoS and Corrupt Boon.)

I got a 1,4k terror tick today…and dhuumfire has no ICD…although id prefer 2-3 stacks with ICD…so condi necro is abit weird now but he isnt bad, at least the build i play^^

Pretty exciting day, tried all classes. It seems to me we can be vulnerability/might monsters, Death Magic looks pretty strong, Blood Magic got some nice new stuff->healing in DS is awesome. But the Corruptions thing, the 1burning stack Dhuumfire and especially the fact that we have to decide between 50% fear duration and spectral mastery (no more spectral terromancer) made me sad.

Also after playing ranger, warrior and guardian who all got extremely buffed, i still don’t understand what makes so OP and we can’t have nice things.

Axe 2 is flat out bad, objectively, compared to every other similar skill.
Ghastly Claws takes 2.25 seconds to deliver 2.88 coefficients of damage, with the utility of 12% LF.
Whirling Wrath does the same damage on up to 5 targets, while also being a whirl finisher
Volley deals more damage at double the range and while being a projectile finisher
Rapid Fire deals significantly more damage, almost a full 1.0 coefficient more, at again double the range, while stacking vuln, and being a projectile finisher
Blurred Frenzy while being the only one to deal less damage, it gives Blur for the full effect
Hundred Blades good ol’ 100b of course roots you for the effect, while dealing almost double the damage of Ghastly Claws cleaving.

Every similar ability except for Blurred Frenzy deals more damage, most of them at similar or higher ranges, with better utility. And these aren’t necessarily on weapons that are considered good either, a lot of these weapons have problems of their own, and are still stronger than Axe. Ghastly Claws is absolutely in need of help, it just flat out doesn’t do enough.

To play devils advocate, Ghastly Claws traited produces no projectiles and that can be seen as an advantage, since projectile defense starts to get popular among other classes (we can’t have nice things of course). And the damage always seemed ok, although i wouldn’t mind vuln on it.

Rym’s idea for a good siphon on auto attack seems nice.

Fix the underlying problem: conditions and boons are too cheap.

What I do not understand is why builds of any profession can inflict conditions with little or no investment into condition stat’s.

So the underlying problem are 2 basic mechanics of the game? And you dont understand why there are skills that have a secondary function next to direct damage? Seriously?>

-Master of Corruption: Corruption skills now apply Confusion (3 stacks, 7 seconds) on cast to all affected targets and reduce cooldown of Tainted Shackles by their cooldown value.
While i would like confusion, this suggestion and some others are a little weird and way too complicated. I’d suggest that master of corruption gives additionally to 20% cd reduction removal of corruption effect or makes the skills more effective(12 stacks of might instead of 10, corrupt 7boons, cpc applies cripple/destroys projectiles, skills spread from epidemic last 2-3second more)
The rest of the suggestions again way too complicated. I liked Clamor of souls, sacrificing life force for distortion. Maybe we get this as next specialization, the theme of gaining-sacrificing life force.

Looks pretty good, i guess its for fun in wvw/pve. If your spider lands its f2 you can maul the enemy twice easily:P

Just a suggestion, maybe take 2 points off of nature magic and pick Two Handed Training and Commanding Voice (recharge on f2). For even more immob uptime!
These types of builds are also alot of fun in pvp coupled with shortbow. Dance around and pew pew to death:)

I disagree about the warhorn and the golem…you didnt mention nightmare rune for terrormancer, reapers protection and spectral wall…and necros can corrupt stability…the last 2 i dont really consider situational…
Necros are good at CC, if you disagree i dont think i can convince you.
I’d also like a frost field or fire field, neither are coming soon imo. Lifesteal can be effective, blindness and weakness from the respective fields too. In pvp.
Also we can stack vuln and might as well, we just keep the might to ourselves. I don’t even mention conditions in pve//
Half the cooldown on lich…do you even pvp…balance is for tpvp not dungeons…
I think they’ve mentioned they have hired new personell for AI, as well as improving AI of enemies/minions/pets/npcs for the coming expansion

They offer lots of debuffs, and from the upcoming changes they will pump out lots of vuln. In the current pve the debuff style isnt too useful, especially in a party where vuln/other debuffs are applied from everyone. We need group utility in form of buffing.
-Why are two out of three of its elites awful?
Hahahahha what. All elites are great (maybe except golem when he picks tulips)
-Why does it have so little access to control effects?
All my whats, the guy writing this has never played necro. Golem Knockback, Unblockable Daze Warhorn, and SO MANY FEARS.
-Why does it have so little access to powerful combo fields?
They have dark fields and we have poison fields, which fit necro theme. The correct question is why do we have such unreliable blast finishers and no whirl/fast projectile finisher to use life steal in the dark fields.
-Why is the Blood Magic trait line so poor?
It’s not as poor as it is underwhelming. (Drarnor Kunoram.5180 made the calculations for a full vamp necro, iirc better spam regen on staff 2 than life steal.)
-Why is Life Force so fragile when the profession has no reliable means of escape or defence?
Life Force is hard to balance. Too much and necros are too tanky in 1v1, too less and they cant handle a teamfight. I guess the silver lining isnt found yet.
-Why are minions, their role and AI still terrible?
Minions aren’t bad. Damage is good, they siphon hp, they take conditions/boons, are good meat shields, every minion has its role. AI will be fixed in HoT or earlier.

All in all the article has some fair points. Necro needs improving. But some things aren’t as dramatic as people think, and remember the game is mostly balanced around tpvp, not pve.

Also who wants balance, if everyone cries about how OP/UP something is, the more attention the game is getting

Axe #3 fits the blast finisher theme. If they do it combined with the new Grandmaster its gonna be fun.
Warhorn 4 seems weird to me as finisher. Same with dagger #5.
And honestly if we could get the minions to explode where we want, they would totally win a space on the utility bar

Just change CPC if you want SoS or Flesh Wurm or Corrupt Boon. I’ve had incredible fun with this build, it’s different than the standard terromancer.
It supports in fights with CPC and Spectral Wall, puts out tons of CC with fears.
Keep in mind the terrormancer doesnt support as much with damage, he supports with weakness/poison and interrupting at the right time. Don’t go melee, stay around the point and be alert to use your fear chains at the right moment. Don’t be afraid to run a bit if the other team tries to focus you, its better to survive and help later than die. That means you should have your exit figured out→Blocking Line of Sight works wonders.
Don’t spam your marks, dont spam staff auto. Use scepter auto attack until you find the right moment to unleash:P Keep your condi transfers for the right moment.

You shouldnt lose duels with this build either.

Did you think of using Healing Spring? Since you mentioned that you intend to imitate turret engie, you should be of use for your team as well …

Also, the healing spring provides you with 3 leap finishers. Or 4 if you utilize the sword cooldown on Monarch’s Leap. That’s a lot of healing, and bonus condi removal.

In teamfights the heal blasts are quite powerful (if your team knows about it)

I play almost the same exact build with zerk stuff, most fun I have in pvp:D

Just remember in order to get the Lingering Curse trait you have to give up Terror, and without Terror the condition Necromancer is outclassed by the likes of condition Engineer (and condition Ranger, honestly).

That has been true currently, but there are very significant changes coming. We’ll be able to have Dhuumfire, Lingering Curse (which effectively doubles all condition effectiveness including our CC), and way stronger defenses if we go into Death Magic.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe Poison and Burning are being changed into stacking conditions. So the decrease in damage on both of those is to account for that. I for one am happy I finished my sinister gear and grabbed the ascended sinister trinkets for some revamped Dhuumfire

It is worth mentioning that they were also wearing non-condi gear, and conditions appear to be scaling much stronger with condition damage but with lower base damages.

All above is true. But in pvp i believe the 6/4/0/0/4 terror-dhuumfire build will be nerfed.
1)Its difficult to land more than one life blast, so less dhuumfire damage.
2)Damage from bleeds/poison also lower (Terror over Lingering Curse).
The only additions to the build is a bit of sustain (Soul Marks and Spite Line traits), and maybe some more dps from poison stacking?.

True we will have more defense if we go to Death Magic but so will the other classes.

I guess you want to use such builds either for fun in pvp or in zerging wvw, so i think dropping protection in the middle of the zerg from a distance is better than running up close

I prefer less direct healing for protection on demand with wells. One utility slot is free for signet of undeath/signet of locust to run around/spectral wall for more protection/CPC.

They nerfed the wrong thing. It wasn’t Dhuumfire that needed changing, it was the Terror chains.

And of course the fact they’d put a burning trait on a power line, that was just brilliant of them. They love their hideously kitten hybrid lines/weaponskills/trait while the warriors and elementalists and thieves and guardians get all the power traits in the power lines and the condi traits in the crit/condi lines.

The terror chains are fine, instead of applying confusion/burn and knockdowns, we apply poison bleed and we cc with fear.
But i agree 100% what the hell do they have in mind with the hybrid traits. Unholy Sanctuary in a line without Healing Power, instead in the line that is hindered by DS we get a DS trait, Dhuumfire and Parasitic Contagion on Power trait line. Not gonna talk about the bad unused traits, every class has almost as many.

Now on topic, OP is right. Terror was nerfed too btw. But we still have (albeit difficult) access to burning and maybe the 6/6/x/x/x condi necro still feels too good to the devs…

To be honest i would use CPC alot more if it didnt apply weakness on self.
I wouldnt want a milisec of weakness on a power build, or having to spend a condi clear/transfer.

If you really want to go conditions in open world, the optimal would be a mix of dire and rabid.

No. And video is seriously outdated.
Sinister gear+pref aristorcracy runes for condition pve fun, no need to mix anything
To run around you need warhorn+banshees wail (perma swift) or locust signet.

With sinister you can play with any weapon you want. Condi builds take traditionally scepter/dagger+staff, but you can play for example axe/focus-scepter/warhorn if you like it more.
Usually its dagger/wh because of locust swarm melee range, and axe is used with focus (open with focus 4 and burst with axe2 or life blasts). Life blast with axe+axe training trait hits more than dagger.

For wvw blobs its power wellmancer and as roamer either power or condi-terror(dire/carrion/rabid)

With intelligence sigil on GS, you can easily deal 4-5k with maul, burning and poison will ensure that you keep dealing damage even when evading.

Flame Legion rune is strong with this and so is the earth sigil on ST. but Why? because you have massive burning uptime, meaning realistically you got permanent +7% damage, which is great when your power stat is so low. The earth rune is mainly due to pulsing AOE burning, adding a bleed or two greatly increases chance of “covering” up that burning with a condition that not only does damage, but also stacks.

I’ve played very similar builds, this one looks pretty awesome. I get the combination geomancy+earth+sharpening stone, but i think light+fire offers more damage than the possible bleeds. And Muddy Terrain is much better than sharpening stone and makes a good combination with torch 5.
The fire field with the low coolodown finishers is great.
Also with the sword/torch you can bait with torch#4 and sword #3 2 dodges, then switch to GS and maul with no worries xD

Torch has been included, but i keep a warhorn with me at all times. The out of combat mobility is invaluable.
GS stays, i have calculated this time and time again, the heal from Rune of the Defender #6 is simply too good to pass (near 4k every 30 sec in addition to my healing skill). So is the “free” regeneration i get from just blocking attacks in general.

Why power + condi hybrid?
Because against say a DD ele, you will struggle to kill it with condies alone. They can cleanse a lot, very fast. But add in some spike damage and suddenly you get a monster that can burst and sustain damage. This is important.

Food is not in editor, why?
I use the food from the Lunar New Year event that grants +25% condi duration (outgoing) and -40% condi duration (incoming). It is getting rather expensive these days, so buy while you can and use metabolic primers. While the primer costs a lot (130 some gems) they make up their worth over time depending on the food you use. When food is getting close to 1 gold each, then the primers are neat to have.

I’d go with this build, lots of ds, weakness, area/res denial, stomp/res security (blind/stability). Amulet zerk/assassins or cleric, and if not many condi users on enemy team switch off dagger for warhorn (cone unblockable interrupt and wh#5)

For leveling do anything you want, try as many things as possible, use all the weaps and the minions and the deathshroud:)
Edge of the Mist event farm, Exploring Maps and doing events in pve will give you primarily exp, not the rate you kill stuff. You get exp and credit for an event if you hit a mob couple of times, and even if you do very bad damage, there are always people around to help you complete the event

Full Sinister, change trinkets between celestial/sinister depending on what you want to lean on more. Bursting/Torment Sigil and Force/Bloodlust (personal preference)
Runes Aristocracy or Mad Kings.
Strength Runes and Life Blast are a bad idea, cause in a hybrid build you do everything else except Life Blasting all the time, it’s not worth buying the Strength runes just for BiP/Strenght Sigil.
Anyway these builds are cool for the Silverwastes and very casual dungeon runs

Also trying to make the ranger pure melee is like trying to make the guardian pure ranged. It will not work

I play alot of GS/ s/a ranger in pvp, its a very nice build, versatile with lots of evades.
Pets are spider to immob and set up for maul/counter+their ranged dps while you stay in the other guys face, and wolf which i never give up.
The sustained damage isnt very high, so you need good bursts…=maximize the burst of your maul (signet might trait+signet of hunt, sigil of intelligence). The axe offhand helps with burst in the other weaponset, and you can combo it with maul. In pvp with valk amulet and full defensive traits i used to take warhorn instead of axe, for the fury.
Another great ranger in youtube uses S/D / GS (potatoveg).

I swear if the weapon swap cooldown was 5sec, this build would be so much greater.

Create revenant, make 80, buy traits etc, check the new skills at the golems.
Take my necro, and start amassing mastery points till i get that sweet GS.
