The first obvious issue is matching premades with solo players.
Making leagues solo/duo queue is something we’ve discussed. We’re open to doing a beta of it, but we’d likely put it to a poll and have the community decide. We probably wouldn’t run a premade-only arena at the same time as there’s not enough 5-mans actively q’ing during a season to make the queue times reasonable.
Totally +1 for a beta only solo and duo queue.
A dream come true
It could be useful to update the player score / participation system, as long as it doesn’t have any impact on either Glicko or pips gained or lost from the outcome of the match. You would have to do a very, very good job of specifying personal score to make adding it to either of those systems value positive – a much better job than anyone has ever done in any game.
I would think that if the scoring is accurate it should follow that some sort of ladder reward would be warranted. Something like top score on the losing side doesn’t lose a pip. That would keep people pushing to the end of the match.
Coming back to an MVP vote system (by players) I like to see a little the influence on this parameter in your mmr (in a positive way).
Like for example you are the MVP player of the game and your total MMR gains a little bonus (and it makes sense because probably you’re good, you played well).
In this way people can be really incentivate to do always the best they can, and in games where you are defeated too, you can always be the mvp for your team and get a little reward.
I forgot to say, Anet should incentivate this vote at the end of the game with a little personal reward (like for example when you click on ready up at the beginning).
Maybe more than xp rank, a really little xp bonux on reward track.

We’ve been talking about personal score a bit. I’m personally of the opinion that it isn’t representative of a player’s effort in a given match, and it also can be incredibly misleading and potentially lead to bad gameplay habits (5-capping home).
If you were to redesign personal score, what would you do? Does it track different types of stats? Would you want your personal stats displayed to other players?
“I did a good game” is a combination of many things in GW2, basically “doing the right thing at the right time”
It ’s almost impossible to translate this directly with numbers, because this combination “right thing at the right time”
The best way is to introduce a MVP vote system players (only in a positive way with a simple +1, you can’t vote for yourself ofc) and let the players decide who played really well.
This is because there are a lot of things in GW2 that only apparently can be good in numeric stats but can be really bad for the game if done with bad timing.
Am I missing something or there isn’t?

The collection is not a pure RNG, at least not like the old normal fractal skins before fractal revamp.
There is the random recipe for a random Golden weapon when you have 4 relics (you can get golden relics from salvage golden weapons too), there are recipes for craft exactly one golden weapon with 10 relics and there are achievements for golden relic and golden weapon box.
Ofc it’s a collection based a lot on RNG, maybe Anet could add some other way to get golden fractal relics or maybe just improve a little the drop rate.
But it remains a collection less RNG based than the old normal fractal skins.
And in general I agree that long term goals are not bad at all.
Personally I know people who have the entire collection already completed so it’s not really super hard to get if you run constantly daily t4 fractals

To be honest it’s not the right patch to really complain.
The off season experience is REALLY BETTER, you can queue outside HOTM (finally), you have the ranked queue and you have the unranked queue with more maps and a new totally map + achievements and title.
They removed bunkers from the games, ofc there is some balance issue like always, but balancing is a continous process so it’s fine.
For me, like i said with my feedback in S3 Season, Anet should work on improving matchmaking, rewards and put the Arena 2vs2 like new game mode for the next xpac.
About Arena 2vs2 I really think without any bunkers, could be more fun than ever.
I really like the new map, Anet did a good job. Large map, with a simple but interesting secondary mechanic.
2 things
1 – At spawn point, doors are not really well positioned. The secondary door is pretty useless.
2 – There is a lot of useless space. Basically the entire area facing the sea is useless.

It could be a good news and a bad news at the same time, good because we could have another raid wing before the next Xpac, bad news because there is no ETA and maybe we need to wait 6 months (at least).
I’ve the feeling there will be a RNG component in this fractal, I mean maybe the fact there are re-used mixed assets could indicate there is an energy instability internal to the fractal and we could have different fractal versions of the same fractal ,auto-generated randomly.
Well, maybe I’m exagerating but it could be very cool a thing like that.
They could add a collection for gold weapons with the gold capacitator like final reward +a legendary golden relic to promote ad infinitum to gold version.

Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate divisionThe thing that worries me here is that I don’t see how the current mechanisms could determine what a player’s skill is. So far as I understand it, there are only two mechanisms to determine player worth, wins, and point score.
The point score is fairly worthless, since some things are rewarded that are not particularly useful (like kills that do not change the flow of game significantly), while others are not rewarded at all (like driving an enemy to flee a controlled point, but not killing him). The player with the highest personal score is often far from the most essential player to that game.
And then there’s wins, and expert players will tell you that wins and losses are reflective in some way of individual skill, but this is just not the case in solo queue. You’re only 10% of the total outcome of each map, and “where the game decides you should be” is more determinitive of success or failure than “what you bring to the table” ever will. They really need to figure out a way to better determine how good a player you are, even if several members of your team are far worse, or some members on the opposing team are just way better.
This is an interesting point, I Really believe the player skill shouldn’t be determined only by w/l but by some measure of performance in the game.
The problem is right that how to identify “something” wich can measure your performance.
in GW2 It’s almost impossible to translate with only 1 parameter your peformance, your performance is good if you do the right thing at the right time for the entire game, and measure this is really complicated.
Probably the best way could be put in the game an MVP system (only in a positive way) where people can give his vote (only in a positive way) to other players in the game to valorize their peformance. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose, everyone can vote (a simple +1) every other players not in their party.
2 players win, one for each side.
This MVP can contribute to modify you ELO in win or loss case.
For example you win and get +10 in a ELO leaderboard and you’re selected like MVP from the other players (MPP = +2 pts). You get 12 pts.
You lose the game and you should lose -10 in leaderboard but people noticed you playied well, voted for you and you lost only -8 pts (- 10 + 2 MVP).
This is only an example but personally I really like a system like this or similar. It’s really motivational.
To be honest, I liked the system in S1 there the general team score counted about how many pips you win or lose, they should reintroduce this system in a simpliefied version to promote good team performance (for example 400 score min)
Both systems can work together btw.

It’s been a while since we’ve commented on leagues, so here’s a brief update.
There’s definitely room for improvement in the league system, and it’s safe to say that it’s the team’s highest priority now that we’ve signed off on everything going in for the July release. It’s still a bit early to talk about specifics, but I do think we can talk about some of the goals we have for the changes:
- Improve match quality
- Make divisions more reflective of player skill
- Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division
We’re still determining the scope of the project, but I do want to be clear that it’s unlikely that these changes will be in for S4. Once we get a bit further in the dev process I’ll see if I can give an update on our thoughts/direction.

This is good to know Grouch but I think We are in loop process here, that continues over and over.
I mean, there are always the same goals, anet usually starts to make the plan, and when the process is almost over, anet starts to show us details.
What happens after?
We test it and many time the final feedback is “it sux”
The idea is to share with us details and plans before is everything done, like you are doing with www, I think every discussions/poll can be really useful to you to not Make the same mistakes over and over again.

It has good points, you need to consider a veteran player who uses a f2p build is not the same like a new player.
Anet should add for example the chance to unlock only 1 Hot spvp spec by Gem store (for example for 400 gems = 5 € ) .
This could help a lot to attract new f2p players, keep them in the game (very important step) and sell more expansions in the future.
Three main reasons why players didn’t get so involved in AGs AspectGGs:
- Difficult to dedicate the time if your IRL schedule conflicts with the tournament time. It’s hard to be so dedicated when you already know ->
- Too many pro players are lurking around. It’s disappointing, unmotivating and plain boring to show up and get wrecked in round #1 by someone who plays video games as a cash propagating profession. Which leads to the final point ->
- Why toss effort at and dedicate special time to a tournament that you know you are going to lose? In the end, most people decided that it wasn’t worth the time invested.
People love 1v1s, 2v2s but they love it when they are able to get home from work and casually sign in to a custom arena and look for a good duel on their own time, with opponents that are more in their skill range. A proper ranked que system for 1v1 or 2v2 would do these necessities justice.
Yes, pretty logic, I really hope Anet stop to try to reinventing the wheel and take the right decision about what’s the best move for the pvp side of this game right now, in this current status.
At 99% We’ll see a new game mode with the new XPAC, I really hope they won’t waste this chance anothe time.
Just keep it simple.
If everyone likes so much 2v2 , I don’t understand why none participates in 2v2 tournements anymore since 2015
There are several reasons.
1) It’s not a supported game mode. Difficult to have practice, no reward if you don’t win.
2) It’s an ESL competition, so it’s basically top tier. It means only top players can win this game mode. For other people is basically a waste of time.
The format works, there is no too much to talk about, with the right map (I don’t like Courtyard, too many LoS objects.) can be amazing.
A lot of pro in a structured supported game mode
- Easy matchmaker
- Easy to find people
- Not confusionary gameplay
- Really skill based
- Very good training for conquest too.
Pro for twitch
- only one action in one point, easy to watch
- Less confusion is better to understand what’s happening
- It’s not over until one dies.
BTW when we talk about 2vs2 in general we think about a pure Deathmatch 2vs2 or Annihilation 2vs2 (better imho) but there are other combinations really fun which could work (1vs1 + 1vs1, differente phase with secondary mecanics etc.).
But the general idea is
Keep it simple.
Basically the opposite Anet did with stronghold with a gamemode who requires huge communication and action split in too many spots. And the irony is they thought stronghold like a casual game mode, just because is less fight based.

- Around 58% w/l to reach Legendary (179 games played)
- Matchmaker is worst than s2, you have queue time longer and the game quality is not better. Better players stacked together against worst players
- Legendary (and divisions in general) means nothing.
- No reason to continue to play in Legendary Division. No rewards associated.
- No interesting rewards if you have already finished the wings. Nothing to buy with tickets.
What you need to do
- Ranked queue with solo,duo queue and full team only. Full team only against Full team
- Remove pips system and make moving up/down between divisions based on MMR. Decay if you don’t play (fixed not temporary). Show MMR at the end and how many points you gain/lose.
- Not save points. Ok Tiers for rewards. Tiers based ofc on MMR and not on pips/grinding.
- More rewards. More stuff to buy with tickets (example G. Hero Armor pieces). Multiplier to exp reward tracks based on current division.
This system is already 10000x better than what we have now.
New Game mode with next XPAC
Arena pvp 2vs2.
Same structure described before.
Final Result and Comment
The game is like 10000x better. In this way the majority of player base will be happy, great chance to attract new players, more twitch viewers (with arena 2vs2). A larger competitive base. Better reputation for the game (pvp side).
Btw if you are not confident about this approach, give us a system like this in beta with a final poll, I believe 100% the majoirty of player base will be happy.

LI is really stupid I agree.
Speaking about PUG, I found really strong The Envoy armor requirement (you need to wear 1 piece).
It’s not really spread cuz people has some trouble with the rng piece, but you can’t cheat it with code (you need to wear 1 piece) and it means you completed the first collection who requires to kill each boss atleast once and other multiple Times
Ofc it’s not a perfect requirement but better than others.
Suggestion:
Challenge mode for every boss
2 li if you kill the boss with challenge mode activated.
More fun, more challenge, faster rewards if your team is good.
Or they could add a challenge mode for every boss with a LI multiplier.
Like you kill every boss with challenge mode active and you get 2 LI instead of one.
In this way people is happy because they have an extra challenge (but not obligated) and get better reward for this. And it helps with the 150 LI amount for legendary armors.

Probably you are new in this section but rewards to keep people playing in legendary or to continue seasons after you finished the wings are a real problem.

The sad story They invested a lot of time making a second game mode less fight oriented and in theory more casual. They got totally the opposite considering how much is difficult to coordinate in stronghold without a shared plan + ts.
And it’s a terrible game mode for tournaments and spectators, so no surprise at all there are super huge queues because only few people play it and it’s not supported in tournaments.
Arena 2vs2 was supported from esl, always had really good spectators quantity on twitch (considering it wasn’t an official game mode), a very good training for conquest too.
For the next xpac don’t try to remake the wheel, just support, improve and expand what already works in this game.
And pls do something for the rewards, lost the count how many good suggestions we already wrote in the forum and we have nothing for s3 (and probably s4).
About matchmaker there already Tons of topics about how bad it is and why so it’s pointless to add more words.

There are People Who don’t like raids but people Who like raids, They really like this game mode.
I don’t find the same situation for spvp, www, and general pve. Ofc there is people Who like them but in general They find always a lot of issues to complain about.
I’m not saying Raids are perfect 100% but the satisfaction is really high
So yes, Raids are the beast, dev team did a really good job.

It was like 5k+ for the final, not bad for GW2, in general was an enjoyable show.

Helseth Interview was better than the entire serie against PZ, very good games between Astral and Rank, and a not so great final but this was most of all for a very strong performance by TCG.
BTW Greatsword Carrion Warrior made the difference, could you bet on this not only 3 years ago but just some months ago?

It’s a shame that GS Carrion war has no place in regular ranked games because of how it works. It’s basically there to just stall caps and prevent decaps forever. Doesn’t really work in most ranked games where players don’t know how to rotate or +1.
Yeah for sure but to be honest a lot of things don’t work in a random queue and work in team queue (most of all at best level possible).
We all know this is a totally different game in pro league top tier andfor the rest of teams/other players, there is a huge gap.
In general I hope Anet can build something different for all players, I’m a supporter of Arena 2vs2, I really think a game mode like this could help the entire scene, twitch, players, teams, basically everything.

The fun thing about afkers They many times blame their team but they are the main reason for the loss
I think first boss (escort+ mcLeod ) is like trio in difficulty but with more fun mechanics.
Need to kill the second one (keep construct), it seems require a lot of coordination maybe in a half way between VG and Sabetha like difficulty.
But it’s just an early feeling, need more practice and attempts.

I see 3 big issues:
1) mmr pump. In a mixed solo – team queue you can pump a lot your mmr with a team. So If leaderboard position depends on mmr, this is not a fair competition. In a soloqueue or full team queue make sense but not in a mixed.
2) number of games played. In a elo LB you need to handle the number of games played to avoid situation 12-0, first spot + AFK for ages. Balancing the decay is really important.
3) We had a mmr leaderboard soloqueue and anet decided to move away from this design. Instead of fix some stuff, the decided to change totally everything. 2 season test with a grind LB and the now season convertion to a pips system. So this won’t gonna happen.
Move to OW and hope blizzard will Make a good ranked and season system.
Ofc with 7m players is a bit easier.

With my Ele, it happens a lot of Times, most of all for the combo taunt + diamond skin.
Super annoying.
They really should fix this.
What matchmaking we actually want: 10, 10, 9, 8, 8, vs. 10, 10, 9, 8, 8.
I think a Matchmaker like this is possible only in theory, in practice if you put a similar matchmaker you get really huge queue time (in gw2)
In this season we have a sorted s1 version (Evan words) so this means in your team there is not a big difference in skill but is possible the enemy team is stronger or weaker not in average, but comparing every single member.
Honestly the only alternative I see is the S1 matchmaker again but you need to be ready to accept people with low skill in your team.
Other real alternatives? I don’t see too many hoenstly.

If I remember correctly, Evan said there was no pips limitation in the legendary division last season, I dunno If They changed this but I don’t think.
I think the main issue is that except for high mmr players Who reached legendary super fast, there are really few players in legendary or in t7 diamond and progression rate il slower than s2 for sure.
Btw There were a lot of suggestions to incentivate people to play in Legendary in the past:
- reward track multipliers for divisions
- legendary currency for rewards only for legendary players
Etc.
Sadly Anet changed nothing for rewards, are always the same like s1
That wouldn’t fix the ussue. Prob is you shard capped after 6 bosses so last 3 you wont get any shards
Probably I wasn’t clear, I mean every full reward you get from each boss is clearly not capped (once a week) if you kill them.
The cap basically stays for failures
It’s a bit different to raise only the cap in general.
My suggestions was:
Cap is fine but everytime you kill every boss you get ONCE the full reward.
This means if you kill example VG twice you get full reward only once, but if you kill each boss you get always once for week the full reward for each boss.
