Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
(edited by Plok.5873)
There seems to be a ReShade fork hand-tailored to work with GW2, named GW2Hook:

I’m tempted to play around with that, but I’d certainly like to hear a dev’s comment on first.

What i miss badly is to easily re-dress my char accordingly to the environment. I’ve bought a lot of outfits for that purpose but end up using only two or three that look half-way decent in the same coloring.
Turns out, re-dyeing takes to long for convenience.
Idea was something like white Arctic Explorer for Shiverpeaks, khaki Jungle Explorer for HoT, metal-colored Ironclad with a tanky build, Cook when crafting, Mad King’s for a firey ele build, etcetc.
I’ve been asking for better outfit dyeing for ever, so pardon me for bringing this up again. Can’t be so difficult to add as many channel as normal armor has and save that per outfit.
Lets see, new shiny metal texture… an aura effect… Come back in 1.5 years and you’ll be able to get it! (note: requires a new currency from PoF that you can harvest once per day, account bound. You need 750. For the precursor. The legendary need more).
That would be a 3rd generation legendary then, naturally requiring 1000 Mystic Coins, which, by then, will cost somewhere above 3g.
In MMO boards traditionally the motto “Learn to complain without suffering” rules. I can name two effects who substantially contribute to this.
Confirmation bias about one’s self-value dictates that if you win, it was due to your superior skill. However, if the other guy wins, it was caused by your underpowered class.
Self-censorship prevents players to post anything positive about their class, fearing that could motivate a nerf. In an ongoing crying contest about your favorite class praise means scoring negative points.
Notorious dog fancier here. /em raises hand
Does not necessarily have to be a corgi, but I’d like to see a canine mount. Still missing my one from Warhammer Online.
Btw, I’m abusing the opportunity to campaign for an [Endless Mystery Canine Tonic], like the [Endless Mystery Cat Tonic]. Artwork should already be there.
I’d buy additional bank tabs if I could.
Technically, that’s not even one UI but an incohesive pile of addon windows. And ofc I’m not suggesting that for GW2;
My entire point is: floaty hp bars good, floaty color-coded vertical hp bars on group + targets better. ^^
Also, the UI Plok posted would instantly turn me away from GW2. Dear god.
Forget about the strange aesthetic for a moment, please. The functionality of vertical HP bars sticked to group members and targets is the point.
That (plus possible a HUD) provides the overview I’m missing painfully in GW2.
In Warhammer Online I had color-coded vertical hp bars with a class icons on top so I could keep an overview even if my entire group stacked on a hostile target.
White bars for group members, green for friendly and red for hostile targets. I happened to play supporter for a dwarven melee gang.
Take a look and tell me that’s not beautifully clear. If only I could have that in GW2…
I fully support this request, like the 113 times before.
Mr. Bigglesworth approves this request.
Might be the first to compete with the cow finisher, though. Until then I’m still hoping for a [Endless Jellyfish Tonic].
… and put all that into presets we can save and load. Two different ones (PvE & WvW) could already help a lot.
I assume this came up before in other threads, yet i feel the suggestion justifies a separate one:
I have an almost complete home instance. A year ago guild mates used to join and gather those nodes. Now I get the answer “ty, not worth the time” when offering that in guild chat. Their point is understandable; the home instance nodes became really numerous while most materials have little value. Same is true for the guild hall nodes, tedious work for low proceeds.
Suggestion: let’s add an object or NPC, like the controversial Black Lion Hunter’s Board, which gathers for you, to the Gem Shop.
That should include even exotic “nodes” like Enchanted Treasure Chest and work for visitors as well. IMO that’s a valuable social aspect. Guild halls could be included or receive a separate version.
Might work via ingame mail, you visit and order once per week and receive for that period all that this specific home instance offers. Or grab it all, every day, right at the entrance.
One stone, two tengu, home instance gathering become worthwhile again and AN gets a new token to sell. Also fits in the concept Convenience for Gems.
TL;DR: home instance + guild hall nodes gathering is hardly worthwhile anymore. Let’s add an NPC to the Gems Shop who picks the stuff up for us.
Suggestion for the next trailer: less slow-motion walking. Great way to show off if you have an eye-catching, high-performance engine. If.
In the present case it only reminds your customers the engine is older that half of them, chokes on one CPU core while utilising a 2nd to 13%… and looks like that.
I’d buy a full prize expansion which only consists of a decently parallelised engine.
/em receives sudden inspiration
What about a size slider for buttcapes?
Scale it all up and all those wanna-be superheroes get their capes, scale all the way down and you don’t have to suffer the sight anymore.
Admit, it is more likely to happen than identifying AN’s buttcape fetishist and convincing him/her to see a therapist.
Hate to break it to you guys, but it’s PrObably Fubar.
(Eternal sunshine of the cynical mind)
Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Praise for outfits?
Your eyes are fine, I suppose, there are players who actually like the outfit system and specific outfits. Myself included. If only the settings were less rudimentary.
/em edits signature and points at Outfit overhaul.
I like it, too… it’s just the same old problem, you fine-tune the dyes and then they’re applied to all outfits.
Major disincentive to use many of them situational(ly).
I’m certain that, several years from now and years past my GW2 time, I will remember this game as “that theme-park MMO where we used to fight huge flickering light bulbs”.
While those currently available hats don’t do anything for me, the answer on the question “Silly hats. Do you want them?” is clearly “Yes”.
I’d like to see (and) a shiny tinfoil hat & even more a duncecap. Or a complete jester outfit.
And a for my engineer a lightning arrester helmet. Technically a [Flash of Genius Conductor Helmet]. Asura only, naturally.
The trouble with most home instance & guild hall resource nodes is, they’re hardly worth visiting anymore. I used to invite guild mates into an almost complete home instance, but today interest in that is close to zero.
Maybe we can kill two birds with one stone and grant those nodes a chance to yield fine / rare materials? At the moment most of them are not worth the time harvest, let alone the money to buy them.
Now that the Flames of Kryta are fixed, I got reminded how useful the were and again are, in dark passages and jumping puzzles etc.
Since we can have only one of those through an achievement, I suggest a graphically boosted torch gizmo for the gem store. Greater Flame of Kryta? With a greater light radius?
Still much better than before. TY for the fix.
May I suggest to add that thing to the laurel merchant or festival rewards vendor?
The two targeting toggles for ‘Snap Ground Targets’ and Autotargeting are really a boon to have.
If you use them all the time it becomes a little difficult to track their state, though. Wish we had a visual indicator. But that’d be a QoL request, so knowing AN I won’t even bother asking. ^^
Totally agree. But after 4 years of this feature being requested continuosly i’ll be happy with shared slots functioning as a consumable bar. I mean, the code is there… they just have to make it show on screen like a single bar. More sales on shared slots… maybe if they’ll see some profit they would take action and do something about it.
Pardon me for sounding so negative, but… AN seems to notoriously disregard QoL request.
I can only guess it may be a management policy to strongly prioritize marketable new features over QoL changes that won’t make it to gaming news front pages, sell copies or gems.
By my observation the vast majority of QoL requests, even those with highly plausibility and low expenditure, are at best postponed until the dolyaks come home.
There is a lot AN does right and often better than other MMO studios, yet in that point they have much headroom for improvement.
I’m also a fan of that one. I’m even collecting morph tonics. :-)
What bothers me more that the duration is that you cannot select the morph from tonics which offer multiple.
QoL suggestion: normalize aesthetic tonics (including Selfless/Thoughtless Potion etc.)
Also I’d love to see Combat transformation versions of some existing tonics, especially the Monkey King and Wraith one.
While we’re at it: I would (ig) kill and/or pay gems for an Endless Jellyfish Tonic. That one is kittening hilarious. ^^
I support this for the perceived 478th time.
Anyway, yes, 4k UI please ! At least bigger mouse for now would be very nice, I often lose it xD
At least this issue can be solved with YoloMouse.
There are threads going back more than 2 years about 4k upscaling being kitten in this game and they didn’t change. Like with so many things in this game. No wonder people are going and find other games.
I’ve read about another QoL problem that was handled by a single developer as a side project (can’t find it right now). If that is typical it would explain quite a lot.
I feel no wish to “to vacate these premises”. Let’s hope AN will apprehend the need for some engine modernization and does not force our hands.
Just bought a 4K tft and generally loving it, but GW2 is a real setback. Same problem as every one else, the interface scaling is too limited.
I’d seriously appreciate a 200% zoom, even if that meant to simply upscale low-res bitmaps. Who cares about minor aesthetic issues if the game become playable again that way.
I’ve requested this before and support it now.
Unfortunately, this is the kind of minor QoL requests AN tends to ignore.
Against extra powers; making only legendaries best-in-slot would pressure players to own them. Normal, (not so hardcore) player would feel disadvantaged and frustrated.
Also another plea for an augmentation library on legendaries, allowing to unlock sigils for a (hefty?) cost and later select them for free. Like with stats now.
It’s not only this keybind, a few more optional ones could indeed improve the game’s flow for most players.
Eg. <Hero-Build> for the min-maxers and <Toggle Helmet> / <Toggle Outfit> etc. for RPers.
Additional keybinds for those kind or roleplaying stuff (toggle helmet, toggle outfit, outfit sub-window) have been requested for years.
Since GW2 is meant to be about horizontal and aesthetic progression, such low-effort features supporting the latter would appear to suggest themselves.
Or maybe a Risen Infusion?
It’s probably irrational to hope that, after this update, a burn guardian will have to do a little more that strut through my lingering Overload Air field with his shield out, to safely kill me within the build-up time of my condition cleanse, isnt it?
PS: Why in the Eternal Alchemy’s name is your filter attacking the question tag “isnt it?” if written correctly? Oh, I see, All Hail to AI (artificial idiocy) ^.^
But would dogs make you a pot of soup?
If only they were able to, they certainly would. And even leave half of it for you, with not that much slobber and hair in it.
A cat, otoh, wouldn’t care to pee on you if you were aflame. ^.^
Value is in the eye of the beholder.
Indeed, prices, however, are mensurable. And those for (super)rare BLC items certainly rised considerably.
Not sure if that is intended; home instance harvesting nodes for example were overpriced before that IMO. Maybe ANet will want to check their availability one day.
For the dog fancier faction I hereby make an application for collectable home instance dogs.
Plus an [Endless Mystery Canine Tonic], complementing the [Endless Mystery Cat Tonic]. Hey, artwork is already done and just needs to be rededicated. :-)
No, no, no. This was the same problem in GW1. Presets are the fix for people who can’t figure out builds.
Actually it’s an even greater gain for people who optimize, tweak, test and adapt to a multitude of situations.
If you want to avoid a “disengage & return with counter build” scenario, fine, put a timer after disengage on it, or limit it to uncontested keeps, etc.
I’m frequently experiencing packet losses in the evening hours. I’ve already contacted my provider, their supports succinct reply was “not our problem, PLs clearly occur on their (your) side”.
Reducing the MTU below the standard 1500 bytes seems to alleviate the problem a little.
Any ideas?
A lot of times, things are actually a lot more trouble to code than the community thinks. However, other times, ANet seems to go out of its way to delay the practical in favor of attempting to implement the ideal.
Or, by my impression, this studio simply excels at ignoring QoL requests, beyond anything i’ve witnessed in 20 years MMO gaming.
I’d certainly like to understand why.
Give us just a rudimentary Addon-API and some one will churn out that 15min later, if it is too much work.
Woot, my pet project :-). I’ve been bi… asking for this forever.
Swapping from khaki Jungle Explorer in Dragon’s Stand to a white Arctic in Bitterfrost and later to a colorful Fancy Winter Outfit for socializing in Rata Sum is quite dis-encouraged right now.
IMO there should an outfit overhaul:
This is fashion war, isn’kitten Let us play it that way. And take our money for more outfits, ofc. ^^
I, once again, support the concept of unlock-able and after that select-able sigils on legendaries. The cost of an unlock could be tuned to prevent heavy market impacts or easy sense of entitlement.
To get for final completion of fashion Wars::
- 1 Legendary of each 2 hand
- 2 legendaries of axe, sword, mace, dagger, pistol
- 1 legendary focus, torch, shield, warhorn
- 1 legendary Light armor
- 1 legendary Medium armor
- 1 legendary Heavy armor
- some infusions with AR or nice animations and of course some stats, when..
- Just do all power, condi and healing… 150 AR on all….
- outfit or 2 to cover up you have no gear for your alts
- some dyes to be able to show some personality
And done??
Eh wrong. And so is swapping sigils.
Mate, what you describe here is quite a long-long-term goal for most people. Something that would lead over a lot of intermediate gear.
Nothing that would be easily finished “And done??”. This exotic case would not have a much effect on markets and gameplay, therefore it is not an argument against swap-able sigils either.
Guys, the community has been asking for QoL improvements being negligible compared to this, like saving builds etc, with great support and for years.
As much as I’d like to see this features in GW2, I’d hesitant to forecast them even for GW3. -.-
Supported… maybe by transmuting it into an infusion?
Think this has been requested before, though. ANet is quite marvelous at ignoring QoL requests…
I would say watch Helseth, Frostball or Mischa’s stream as they go into it in far greater detail than I or many others here could.
Could you provide a link to the latter two please? Maybe it’s time to undust my mesmer….
Perhaps we should ask for a condensed outfit feature request thread, sticked maybe? This comes up time & again. (imho for good reasons.)
This should be part of an outfit overhaul:
I feel that would make outfits much more attractive.
I have faible for mini pets, especially with matching morph tonics, so looked pretty forward to using the Mini Arctic Quaggan with the Black Quaggan Tonic.
Unfortunately the mini pet disappears underwater. :-( At least to me and a some fellow tonic and mini fanciers this is quite a drawback.
Could you ANet guys look into this? Animation data should be available, since original model is aquatic.
