The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

It’s not as near as frustrating as the OP says. It IS however a bit annoying to jump from WP to WP reacting on map chat messages to find events. But usually it’s not more than a bunch of players and you can typically finish this part of the daily within 10 minutes. And that’s the ‘hardest’ part of the dailies.

I still like the old ones since it wasn’t necessary to specifically go to a map to do it, it happened more naturally.

It had a rather short campaign and horrible voice acting (Shiro, oh my god… so bad). But the lore and the atmosphere, the setting and the music were fantastic. I always loved the Factions and it always had a special place in my heart. I absolutely liked Elona with its longer campaign and story, but Cantha had this special feel for me.

Top 5 things Anet got wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

5. No transparency and bad communication (communication, showing roadmap of the company/game)
4. Lack of customizability (UI), no addons (DSP meter etc.)
3. Lack of meaningful high-end content and unique drops (see #1)
2. Very little content released (see #1)
1. Living Story – this was the most horrible and bad decision they made in the beginning. This lving story that isn’t bi-weekly since a long time (rather 2 monthly) is horribly executed and didn’t live up to the expectations. Sure season 2 was a bit better and had a bit of more story and at least presistent content added to the game. But compared to the industry standard of MMOs the content added is ridiculous. Most MMOs will add what Anet calls “Living Story” anyway with free updates every couple of months. Adding one or two new maps, 2-3 dungeons and a new raid. Additionally we get an addon with a whole new continent, new mechanics, new classes, additional PvP modes, professions etc etc. The sheer lack of meaningful content – we had nothing at all, there is still one and only ONE PvP mode after 2.5 years! – is just a result of mismanagement and a lot of wasted talent.

Well but now to the point: If they announce something meaningful on January 24 at PAX South I revoke those points. But if there is again a ridiculous announcement with tiny changes here and there this game is dead for me.

There are a lot of things that you may confuse with other MMOs terms. Conditions in this game is a general term that every class can and usually will apply. There are usually no conditions that is unique to a class like in WoW or Final Fantasy. So, most classes can apply a condition like bleeding. But best would be to read the wiki-article about conditions:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition

Also, I am not sure what you mean by ‘tank’. Do you mean your characters has to be very durable? Or do you mean your toon is the guy who holds aggro all the time? Be cause that’s not possible, since GW2 has no trinity (DPS, Tank, Heal).

Generally you can play every class as a ‘tank’ in GW2 terms: you can craft/buy armor that has only defensive stats, which makes a generally squishy character extremely durable. There are of course the classes with more durability – either with basic stats like warrior, or class mechanics like Guardian.

EDIT: I forgot something important about conditions in PvE. This mechanic is kinda broken. The problem is, that in PvE the cap for bleed stacks is 25. So in open world with bosses etc. this cap is reched within seconds, newly applied conditions by other sources (even non conditions warriors will apply with some traits bleeds) will overwrite your much stronger bleed stack with a weaker own version.

So generally conditions in PvE is NOT welcome. However, if you are in parties/groups in dungeons who doesn’t care you will be fine. But still; it is not advisable to make a conditions class – it is simply a broken mechanic in this game and well known since the betas and Anet hasn’t changed that.

And then the catastrophe began: hours of waiting until MAYBE without timer and idea when, the event starts. Sometimes staying in the area for several hours without starting or I couldn’t get the information (never in the game itself, nor the internet) where the NPC would spawn to start an event to unlock a kittening adept trait. It was an ambitious idea to create a separate underwater combat system but failed at balance, z-axis, different skills and traits that won’t work etc.

In open world PvE this isn’t much of a problem, since we have huge zergs anyways…

But atmospheric wise it is a great feature – the vast waters of Frostgorge Sound or Bloodtide Cost are quite impressive and immersive, I’d love to swim to Southsun though but the ‘strong current’t is holding me back.

Honeystly, it whould have been much easier to just keep the terrestrial combat – many MMOs do that and it’s fine.

They didn’t do that after the 2nd anniversary which implies that they are lower. If they were even or better they surely had us told that. It’s that simple. NCSoft never gives out such numbers, be cause they fear people’s reaction to bad news.

At least Blizzard told their community that they lost some 3 million players (from 10 mio to 7 mio – oh those numbers, it’s a bit embarassing that a 10 year old sub based game has 20 times the amount of players than GW2).

Yeath the maps are few and tiny compared to the original ones. Also, the Silverwastes has a lot of rocks and mountains in between. That’s maybe okay, but why can’t we go up there? That would be much more immersive. It all looks so 90ies final fantasy style with invisible walls and not a 2010s AAA MMO. A lot of the competitors have much more bigger maps/zones and no portals to other zones (wich was a concern even during first betas when I heard about it). It kills immersion and the weather/day/night-cycle per zone is immersion killing, too.

Why did they do this? Don’t know. Why did they do this and limit the max condition stacks to 25? That’s just extremely amateurish and should have never found its way into the game. Even after more than two years and even after concerns during the beta(s) this has never changed.

Why we can`t use DPS meter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

Hey. I gotta say your right. Many people are tolerant. It still doesnt change that ranged players are more likely to be blamed for mishaps than melees. When I first started my guardian I died quite often. Using a new class took some getting used to and I often avoided stacking becuase I simply wasn’t used to being that close to another person. I didn’t understand at the time how much easier it was to play with 4 other melees right next to you ready to pick me up if I died. I never once got kicked.

On my ranger however I range the molten twins. The reason for this is im quite used to pugs dieing there. I often have a 70% success rate in soloing the rest of hte zerkers health down..rezzing my team mates and salvaging the fight. In almost every one of hte remaining 30% though. Im often kicked from the group and blamed as being hte cause of the wipe due to my (pitiful dps they had to carry) despite being the last one alive.

Yeah true. If they blame someone it is the noob with the always ranged weapon :-)

Anyway, it’s really horrible to see all the staff guardians out there. Actually, about 8 out of 10 guardians I see in dungeons run with a staff. They think the might and healing is great and do ‘good’ damage with the 1 skill… I even had a discussion recently with a guardian in our guild claiming that staff is the way to go lol. If people just knew how horrible this weapon in dungeons is…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProtoGunner.4953

Kill speed is very relevant to the discussion as it is the only thing valued in the dungeon community today. Slowing down the dungeon run WILL get you kicked today in many groups. As a ranged player this happens to me quite often even in situations where im actively helping my group at every turn. As the ranged player is easiest person to target for a slow kill time.

That’s not true. I recently ran some pug dungeons and I was in groups with horrible overall DPS and no one got kicked. Still most players just run whatever they want.

But overall, the experience wasn’t that bad. About 70% of the groups I pugged in AC, CM and CoF were rather speed clearers (though no focus on specific group composition) and it was a quite good experience.

aroud 1500 hours I believe. No drop, no buying off the TP and STILL managed to make Frostfang :P (It was a gift from a random stranger)

About the hours, while I agree that is an obscene amount of time, I am sure that most of that is AFK. I have people in my guild who do that. They log in, play for a couple of hours, then go to bed/work/dinner/etc. and don’t log off. So it counts those hours, even though they are not actually doing anything.

I am not sure. The client throws you out within 20-30 minutes. Not sure if the ‘/age’ command counts this towards playtime?

BTW, yes I managed to craft Sunrise, Kraitkin, Frostfang and Kudzu :-)

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

I get such a laugh out of the anti-mount people. The amount of energy used to twist logic to use against mounts is mind boggling. Some players really want mounts, end of story. The issue should be simply choice. If a player wants a mount so they can traverse Tyria’s vast open world, great. If someone doesn’t want a mount and uses the way points, great. It’s ALL good if it keeps players entertained and invested in the game. Telling either side they are wrong and can’t have does nothing but lessen someones experience of the game.

The word for every anti-mount person to learn is tolerance. This isn’t YOUR game alone.

Its such a waste not to implement this and it shows a lack of vision, imagination and ability.

No it doesnt. Copying other mmo’s sounds more like a lack of vision.

Why did you decide that mounts is copying of other mmo? In reality people also used the mounts. By your logic all mmo – plagiarism of reality? And even if we assume that the implementation of the idea of mounts is copying – then what prevents to implement it so that it will be not like in other MMOs?
See? Lack of vision.

Dont come with BS explanations please. People want mounts because they have in in their old MMO and/or RPG.

Your argumentation is incoherent. So, every RPG is copying other RPG be cause they have a horse to ride. This means every (MMO-)RPG is copying Zelda or Elder Scrolls (or what game ever ‘introduced’ an animal to ride).

It’s as if you would argue that wielding a sword is copying another game, be cause it is in a lot of other games… think about it! It is pretty natural that in games with vast worlds you have the ability to ride a horse or whatever. The ridiculous arguments of the anti-mount-faction – if they bring up any – are lackluster, incoherent and illegitimate. The only argument I see they are right is that it costs resources that may be used somewhere else.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953

ProtoGunner.4953

I had a relatively freshly leveled thief 80, gave it my ranger’s full ascended gear and off I went to unlock the XIII traits – I already had the rest unlocked since it was level 70+ for over a year.

Okay, now I really wanted to unlock the following trait:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revealed_Training

For this I need to kill the Risen High Wizard right in front of Arah. I entered Cursed Shore for about 2 ours and nothing happened, I entered another 1-2 hours the next day, finished the map completion did Melandru for the 10000000000th time and still – no Risen High Wizard… I entered another couple of hours the next day: NO Risen High Wizard. The next day, I entered again: NO… GOD kitten RISEN HIGH WIZARD…

I ended up paying the 3g and 20 skill points at the trainer.

So, what the HELL were ArenaNet thinking about this? Do they really think it is fun to run the same map for hours and hours just to HOPE the god kitten event starts accidentaly? This is just one of the worst game designs I have ever seen in an MMO (and yes, there ARE extremely bad designs in many MMOs). You guys want to go ‘directly to the fun part’, then why do you do that? Why do you change this to such a god forsaken bad concept?

I liked the skill huntin in GW1, but there were two points which made it fun instead of tedious and frustrating:

- you could do it on your own (no group content)
- you could do it AT ANY GIVEN TIME <—- THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was instanced, and I could do it when I felt I wanna do it. Do change that. Let us hunt those things, make it instanced or an open world fast spawning thing/event.

Yes, we need it. We need content. The industry’s standard is ‘deliver and deliver and deliver till they choke on it!’. MMOs do this, GW2 doesn’t! They don’t listen to what the people want, the player base is getting smaller and smaller, people already forgot about this game. The income is getting worse and worse – just check the report from NCSoft. All my real world friends left since there was and is not much left to do. And it’s like 2+ years.

Hello I want to talk about PVE please.

The problem why Aetherpath floppend they are afraid of doing other dungeons is as follows:

- no meaningful rewards
- no universal dungeon tokes which we can buy ascended gear (a hard dungeon to get best in slot gear would be an incentive to do ‘challenging’ content what aetherpath is)
- if they do a new dungeon it’s always gimick. Just do an A to B dungeon, no fancy, strange crap with riddles and jumping stuff. Do some interesting boss encounters, that’s what people want.

I did this dungeon once and found it very original. But anet seems really NOT to understand, why people run dungeons after they did it just for doing it once… I sometimes wonder if they want to come out of their Ivory Tower or not.

You can’t do both.

Yes, you can. Most MMOs, or at least AAA MMOs, do this actually. That’s why I called it ‘by industry standard’. The living story – once announced with thunderous fanfares – is nothing else what most MMOs do between expansions. Some short story snipplets here and there to please the community. Fact is that other companies managed to cater regular expansions every two years. Expansions with 10-15 maps, new races, campaign, raids, dungeons etc etc.

Besides; that ‘release every two weeks’ is a joke by now. We get 4 releases after months of nothing and then after months of hiatus again some story snipplets.

You really seem biased by the talking of Anet that everything takes sooooo much time. It’s true that Anet has a different approach which takes longer. But the little amount of content we got after more than two years is ridiculous compared to other MMOs in the industry.

Fact is that with no expansion there is no publicity and with no publicity there is no new players (at least not the big masses). Hence the income goes down and down. I know not a single person pesonally who still plays GW2. They are all gone, it’s only the longterm hardcore fans, the guys who can’t afford a monthly fee or newcomers who are in this game now.

Well, I hope the LS are just fillers. Everything else would be ridiculous compared to industry standard. I hope they work on an expansion with a new campaign with 10-15 new maps, dungeons and raids, new skills, traits, weapons, classes or races. Everything else would be a letdown.

So you’re expecting them to release an expansion roughly the size of the current game? Do you realize how long it took them to make GW2?

Yes, I follow this franchise since 2006. They released 2 campaigns within 1.5 years, about 1/2 and 2/3 the size/content of the original game with 4 new professions and features.

Yes, I know games become more complex. But I mentioned the ‘industry standard’ not just be cause; there are numerous examples that release amounts of ‘living story’ AND in addition expansions every 2 year. Just look up some of the leading MMOs (no, not only WoW).

I am by far no expert, but I would appreciate it not to buy or farm those damask again. It’s 7 or 8 times the amount of leather/ingot. Isn’t that a bit out of place? No one cared that silk was worth nothing (well 7c). Maybe you are just a slik farmer and defending your own interests? :-)
