While you are defending with reasonable arguments the season 2 release model, I still think it’s bad marketing. It’s just not very encouraging if you have to pay for it after you bought the actual game.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Most people who say they get kicked often aren’t telling us the whole truth. I played over 2.5hours and got kicked once be cause I produced a huge FAIL.
Generally, those people are either rude, misbehave or are very bad players who – that’s the most important thing – won’t listen. As already mentioned, many ranger players are so bad it hurts, if you observe them in open world, they usually run around as bearbows, not knowing how bad the bear is (yeah there are some bosses you can faceroll with it which is cool).
The constant spamming of lonbow 4 and always ranged combat just hurts. There are warriors, guardians among others who attract bad playstyle but I think it is most prominent for the ranger class since you can troll so easily, people just don’t know and use all skills on cooldown. I sometime observe other players during events and there are so many just spamming auto attack, it’s just horrible.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I think it’s good, as OP mentioned the reason of large scale events/dungeon events where one of the players can let the enemies attack him for a while.
People are so mindset with the MMO trinity system and so afraid that GW2 may become something like this that they completely forget that it’s just a new mechanic known from a vast array of games. For example there is a well known status effect in many Final Fantasy games (the single player ones) called berserker, where you – the players – mindless attack. Don’t forget that this effect is only temporary, you can’t build up ‘aggro’ nor do I think it will last very long (a couple of seconds). Still, this can in some cases rescue the party’s kitten and lets add the devs some interesting new boss mechanics. Also, finally there MAY be a use for non-zerker gear outside PvE.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Well, they HAVE to create underwater skills for the revenant though. So there must be some work done, but I don’t think too much work, since they put that project aside for now. Hopefully with a future expansion (deep sea dragon) they will redesign the whole thing…

Shiro
Togo
Mhenlo
Kuunavang
Saul D’Alessio
Glint
Palawa Joko
Koss
There are so many, but I really prefer Shiro, this would be my first pick, followed by Kuunavang.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
the revenant, to me at least, sounds far more like a gw1 character thrown into our world than simply a mix of classes. he has an energy bar, upkeep skills(monk skills primarily), has four pips of energy regen (so far) on top of Avatars (a dervish thing) and Channeling (ritualist) among god knows what else.
if anything i might make the story about how its my ritualist from GW1 who got lost in the mists and learned awesome warrior skills from rytlock in exchange for teaching him ‘mist voodoo.’ But then took a wrong turn on his way out of the mists and killed my main character before he could start his journey to stop zhaitan and whatnot, thus now he has to do it instead.
I think this was exactly the idea behind it. In the recent interview, the devs told exaclty that: they looked back to GW1 and wanted to please those long time fans (like me btw :-)).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
You just mentioned a mixture of several other professions’ unique mechinics. Think about it…
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I fully agree, Shiro has to be a legend for the revenant. And Jade Wind as elite where all surrounding enemies turn into Jade would be awesome (though a bit overpowered).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Well, the releases are pretty content-oriented, many single player phased (technically) story parts (similar we have now in GW2 btw). They usually lose most subs during the period before the new expansion hits (that 9-10 months between the last content patch of an expansion and the new expansion). It’s really not bad.
MoP is a bad example since it didn’t please the western crowd. Now they are back to 10 million with the new one – I have yet to play it.
You are right with me though, I usually play 2-3 months WoW, see all the content and unsub, maybe I renew it once more.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
They release patches every 2-3 months until about 9-10 months before a new expansion in WoW. It’s not ‘nothing’.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Wow, you must be a really really bad player, if you can’t even fight this boss… I guess games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or Demon’s Souls is unknown to you.
Oh, where are the good old times, where only gamers played games?

Horrible, HORRIBLE. Killing Animals, oh why, is nature soooo sadistic!!!! If this isn’t enough, Aztecs sacrified children every now and then by ripping their hearts out, cutting their head and limbs off and eating them in front of their gods. Well, guess that’s what nature can do (yeah, humanity is nature, don’t forget that).

Stop running DirectX 9 in the expansion?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: ProtoGunner.4953
They had dx8 in the original campaign and updated to 9 for fractals. They could do the same. The argument of being more accessible for older machines is null since you can usually just switch between the two renders like in WoW. Dx9 is extremely old and it’s a bit ridiculous not to have the option for at least dx10.
What are you even SAYING?
Oh my, I just re-read that… sorry, I have a 20h flight behind me and my concentration is lacking: in Guild Wars 1 Prophecies they ran DirectX 8 and for Factions they updated to DirectX 9.
You can choose between DirectX versions in WoW since a couple of years (at least you could some time ago, haven’t played in a while). This would be an option, too, if poeple have older machines.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Yes, I clearly support this opinion. This should be just a fix gold cost and not gem.

It’s a pain to read this thread as it seems that many can’t think out of the box: why the hell do do they think that a new level cap would destroy balance, other content etc. MMOs are constantly in a flow of change. Old content can be rescaled, changed, deleted, altered whatever. There are a lot of concepts if they really go for a higher level cap (which I don’t think they’ll do).
Arguments are null and void – do not judge a priori if you don’t even know the concent of a new level cap. Maybe they have a different approach.
Well since you’re able to think outside the box, answer me this:
What would 10 or 20 more levels add to the longevity of the game that just the addition of new content would not?
Guys, just stay tight to the facts: level cap has nothing to say, you can slowly quest to level 20 in GW1 prophecies within the same time it takes to go to level 80 in GW2. That said, outside the box that a level cap increase can be everything you can(‘t) imagine. Besides: I didn’t say that I want a level cap increase, I just mentioned I will have no problem with it – big difference.
But my personal feelings are as follows: I like progression, I liked parts of the world I first couldn’t go initially be cause of the deadly enemies enemies – keeping in mind that I can go back there once I am ready. That feeling derives maybe from old (J)RPGs I played or whatever. Anyway, I wouldn’t mind if there is something to do after I hit level cap. Until now we just have nothing to progress. I liked the reputation farming in GW1 – this is something similar to levelling, don’t forget that. Yes I like progression of my own character, story is nice but if I want a compelling story I play Mass Effect (not 3), where my gear/level progression isn’t important.

See it this way: in WoW you only have certain stats you need for your class. The same in Guild Wars 2: you have only Berserker stats for your DPS class. Since all are DPS.
The big problem is other stats won’t help much: fights takes longer, the damage output of the enemy takes longer —> you have to mitigate it with your crappy stats (cleric etc.). Since you can dodge, reflect, blind, etc. You can acively nullify most attacks from enemies. Of course you need to be good or you go down quickly (but even then, you dish out DPS as long as you live an be still more useful than a crappy staff cleric guardian).

It is an option, so minions should work…
Also, I like my ranger pet and usually have no problems with it…

Looks good, but not so much on Asura, maybe I buy one for my thief (though I really love my nightmare court/evergreen combo).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I’m honestly more in favour of a level cap decrease. I only have one level 80 that wasn’t due to copious amounts of craft-levelling, and even on that character, I got to 400+ tailoring before reaching level 80.
Or they could remove levels entirely and make the game more like The Secret World. That would be awesome.
kitten , then don’t play an RPG…
What the kitten guys? A level raise is not necessary, but I wouldn’t mind. I like progression and most people are complaining there is nothing to do. Another way would be reputation farming like in GW1 with the EOTN or Kurzick/Luxon-Titles. GW2 really lacks long tracking goals after level 80…
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Sorry, walking all the way to the event again, just sucks. There are of course big events like Tequatl where I always run. But if there is no Waypoint near and I had to walk for about 2-3 mintes there is no way I run that. Especially if the event takes not more than a couple of minutes.
I am pretty sure that the event scales only with active players, this is checked at certain intervals. So the death of a player doesn’t immediatley reduce the health of an enemy.
So to point it out: that’s why we want mounts. With a 100% speed boost I am sure people would much more run there instead.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
People already complain that there is nothing to do and you want to reduce levelling and this small gear progression we have? What else to do? Sorry, but some people just like to improve their characters over a long period of time. If you want instant-win characters go play Guild Wars 1 or some casual stuff.
A certain level of progression is necessary, otherwise people leave it and go to the next. No MMO can dish out constantly new story and content to please the crowd, they crave for more.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I this for real? They release a minion class that is bugged out more than 2 years and can’t/won’t change that… We talk about a major release from a major studio with 15+ years of experience and some key people are in the business since 20 years if not more. I really don’t get it. I don’t remember playing a game that had such horrible A.I. on minions and remained like this for a god kitten 2.5 years…
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I only PvE and there is no other choice than Jaguar. It’s the highest DPS pet. If I need a bit less squishy pet, I swap to River Drake. Still ok’ish DPS and quite tanky.
I really don’t get the popularity of bears. They perform horribly bad in DPS. I get that there are certain situations where you can let’s say tank a champ and conveniently deal damage from a safe distance. But usually the bear is just one of the worst choices for PvE.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I’d appreciate a paid expansion. Something like 40-50€/$. There should be the option to buy them with gems for 4000 gems, so that people with no jobs/students etc. but a lot of time can buy it with gold to gem conversion.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I can imagine that the average adolescent gamer doesn’t like weapons like Kudzu. They want to have black kitten crap (usually human male warrior). If you grow up and aren’t anymore wet behind your ears you may appreciate it.

It also triggers the Signet of Malice 3x, which is pretty neat in crowded areas where you need fast heal.

1. New continent or about 5-10 new zones
2. Raids
3. New profession
4. New crafting options
5. New race
6. 5-10 new dungeons
7. Reputation farming with benefits
8. A new level cap (not a must)
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I think they fear that less people will buy the new expansion than the original if there is a paid expansion. But they could just release a bundle together with the original game with a normal price tag.
About the features: I would welcome a level cap increase, but would be fine if it stays status quo. But there should be title hunting with reputation like in GW1, I liked that a lot and there is something to do after reaching level cap. That’s one of the biggest issues with this game: nothing really to do after you reached level cap progression wise.
As of ascended gear: it’s good, I liked it. It took me a while to have a full ascended character, but now I am happy with it. It’s fine the tier is now more than 2 years old, if they introduce something new with a new level cap, well they should go on. There is really a gap between players who say they have nothing to do after reaching 80 and those who complain that there is a (ridiculously low) gear treadmill with ONE added new tier of gear.
I hope of course there will be a new class, and a new race to a lesser extent (Tengu). Of course whole new landmass, the best would be somthing similar to Cantha or Elona – one can dream…
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I don’t really care what they open up in the future. I would be happy with the Ring of Fire or the Crystal Desert. But I assume it will be mostly parts of the Maguuma Wastes.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
So it seems to come true, they will release something it seems. It still may com as an update (not a boxed expansion), but I don’t care. As long as this kind of ‘expansion’ consists of several new maps, probably a new race or profession, and a couple of othe features, I am completely fine!
‘would of been’ —> wrong
There’s not only black white for me at least. But here are the onese i like:
Ranger, Thief, Guardian, Warrior, Mesmer
The ones that I am not so a fan of it, since I die too fast or I find it too complex or they are simply too weak. Though I still like to play all the classes from time to time.
Neco, Elementalist, Engineer
‘would of been’ —> wrong
What is so bad in EOTM? I like it. It’s easy to jump in, casually kill some stuff and enemies in zergs. It’s pretty fun imo. The only complaints I see is in this forum, everyone else seems fine.
But lately it seems that this mode is dying out as well. There are so much less people than a couple of months ago. You literally can see how the population in this game shrinks. But that’s no surprise, regarding the lackluster and shallow ‘content’ they released in those 2.5 years. What potential, what missed opportunity. I hope for January 24, but that hope is so little… If they won’t reveal some big changes, updates, etc. I can’t see much playing this game anymore.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Fact is, they advertised this feature as part of the Fractured! update. This and the Fractal weapon boxes as reward (as far as I remember). Be cause of this we had a reset of our own presonal progress, we worked for it! I think this is pretty questionnable, isn’t _ it (ffs fix your ridiculous profanity filter).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Where do you get so many tomes? I have 8 and played already over 2.5k hours, all professions on level 80 – I don’t need them, but I just wonder how you can get so many tomes? Is it the PvP rewards? Be cause I don’t do any PvP.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
No, I want to have just a permanent speed boost on an animal – it’s very comfortable, especially in parts of the world without any waypoints or permanent contested waypoints.
I think the point why people are so much against mounts isn’t the typical lackluster arguments against it (WPs, signets, passive speed boosts, cluttering of screen etc.) it’s just be cause people are so kittening afraid of the WoWization of this game. So ridiculous, really. And they simply won’t admit it.
It’s not ______ fear, its more like repulsion and distancing ones self. Something the wow refugees can’t seem to understand.
I don’t get why you are against a simple convenience for everyone in the game. Oh something else: I started my MMO career with GW1 and not WoW – and played GW a lot more.

Mount should be 100% speed (double normal warlking speed), so we don’t need to rely on a kitten skill slot all the time. Also, not every class has a signet and some are a bit annoying to keep up.

Genreally, I prefer Sylvari. But it really depends on the class.

Guys, you must have time… and no money. Why in hell would you just delete a level 80 to make room for another one instead of just buy a character slot? I never deleted any of my 80ies. It’s unbelievable that only about 1 really answered the question(s) of the OP:
In addition to The V, I can add this: FGS got nerfed and isn’t used for DPS anymore (mainly to move around quickly with rush etc.), also it is only the Necro that really lacks DPS AND utility. The Mesmer brings utility, don’t forget. And the rest does decent DPS. Don’t forget that the ranger had a major DPS boost with some improvements and they are now pretty welcome in groups with spotter/frost spirit Sword/Axe.
So in fact; only the necro lacks both: utility and dps, the rest of the classes has their place.
