What Would Your Character Have Said to Jory?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Didn’t even remember I had an option, just clicked through as always. Also, isn’t she called Marjory? I hate those abbreviation short names, just doesn’t fit in fantasy settings.

I second this emotion: EotM is fun and easy to play, and the rewards are quite nice too.

We should go back to the initial question: it actually makes no sense, there are numerous questions you could ask; why are elephants taller than rhinos, or why are macaws taller than budgerigars. It’s nature and evolution.
We can now make an analogy. The ‘nature’ in game terms would be the developer, and they decided so.

As mentioned: Charr are a bit higher if they stand upright. But that’s scarce (Guardian Staff 4 and /laugh emote for example).

It’s almost daylight robbery. The price for a key is a joke compared to what you get.
I promote a change: just remove the key from gemstore and add them as drop item with similar rarity of the Unidentified Dye.
Even the Activion/Blizzard had to realize that the real money auction house was a kittening stupid idea and removed it. Since then the game has a lot improved.
I still have the feeling that GW2 has the same ‘intention’. Having usually crap loot and you buy off the stuff with real money while keeping the investment as low as possible. As you can see we didn’t get any noticable additional content.

It’s just that those classes are seen as inferior for dungeon runs. It’s cetainly not gear supremacy since I have seen a “no guardian” LFG.
For PUG dungeon runs*
almost every class can do very well in a good group, but most pugs can’t play them effectively.
QFT
Good groups will take a capable Ranger for Spotter and Frost Spirit for example.

I first heard ‘toon’ during late GW1 lifecycle (about 2009-2010 ) and was mainly used by US-players. I asked then what they mean by ‘toon’ – they explained it was their character.
I played first in European guilds for years (wich all use the term ‘character’ or short ‘char’) as I am from Europe, but with dwindling player base most changed to US/International guilds. I dislike the term ‘toon’; it sounds so disconnected and childish.
The word itself of course derives from ‘cartoon’ – just watch Roger Rabbit :-)

I made Frostfang about 6 months ago and it is a really nice weapon. Gave it to my Warrior. Warrior main hand axe is part of the meta and an important part of their highest DPS builds. Just give it to your Necro or Ranger now, and after April 15th you are able to give it to any other character since Legendaries become account bound.

£85 =8000 gems, 8000 gems = roughly 520 gold.
So curently £85 x 2 = a pre-cursor + some.
Its sad but im pretty sure this is how they really want you to get your precursors, with real money.
True, as long as you can buy them with real money, they won’t change it or at least artificially delay it. It’s that simple.

They shoul’ve implemented templates which work similar to GW1. Just safe templates on you computer. It’s very convenient. I don’t remember every single build across my 8 characters…

No offense but there are reasons to this. In contrary to most parts in Europe, Asia still struggles to come to terms with the past. I assume I get infracted if I speak it out, since you can’t even tell facts here as they will be rated as politically incorrect, but many know the ‘difficulties’ between China, Korea and Japan. So I won’t start with that.
As open minded Westerns we struggle to understand that, be cause we learend tolerance and try to understand each other. Huge parts of the world unfortunately, don’t work like this and therefore we have results like this: mixing different cultures is offensive for people living in those different cultures.
They finally should learn to do something like this:

About the topic itself: I don’t like the flimy and secretive attitude of the company. I can imagine that Anet would or at least intended to make a Canthan expansion/campaing but NCSoft didn’t allow it. The long and big silcence just shows how they won’t risk the reveal that they (Anet/NCSoft) aren’t in harmony. It’s the biggest issue I have with the company. They are anything else than transparent. Transparency is something a community wants and expects. Unfortunately, only independent studios have the spirit of old days.

Clipping is somethin pretty normal in MMOs. I really don’t care. I found it ridiculous (all the mentions in the gw1 wiki) and I find it ridiculous here. No one was complaining about clipping in WoW and there the capes even go through the chairs you are sitting on.

I’m agree that people can craft their own precursor, in a long term and maybe gated 1 per 2 months or something with materials account bound.
I mean, drops in these games are based on luck, but when I heard that after 3000 4000 hours of playing people aren’t still able to drop it, it’s a shame.
Actually, I don’t care a lot about legendary, but people deserve to drop or make or whatever a precursor, after so many hours played.Btw I’m quite sure that this RNG is related to the Gem Store.
I’ve put tons of rares in the forge, since I play GW2, never spent 1£ in the Gem Store and never drop it. Then…
I’ve noticed that after spend a good amount of money buying gems, the same day I’ve got a Dawn and a Dusk in the MT with like 250 rares and the following days my drop rate was enourmously increased, exotics and rares from trash.
I don’t usually spend money on the gem store so it was obviously evident this change.
After 1 months I put over 1000s rares in one day and nothing, few trash exotics.
So I don’t know, there is something dirty.
Not true, I spent about 2’000€ on gems and never got a precursor, even when I put hundreds of staves into the forge.

Once the nerf hammer drops on champ bags, grinding for a legendary will be even more fun. I mean, if you have a productive social/work life, it’ll only take you about 5 months to get a legendary (considering that you play 3-4 hours most days). Twilight costs only about 2000+ gold? But why the trouble? You can just convert around $550 in a matter of minutes to get all the gold you need. If you work and make minimum wage on the federal level (depending on where you live), that’s equivalent to 76 hours of work. You’re saving over 400 hours of your life through this method.
Around 10 hours for me to buy a legendary with real money if I want. Besies:
‘social/work life’ and 3-4 hours a day playing aren’t compatible. If you have a social life and work you may play 2-5h per week. You can of course try hard and play during the night. But even then my girlfriend started worrying when I told her I play sometimes until 3 in the morning and have to get up at 8 for work (that was btw not only guild wars, several other games out there).

Possible, we are one of the biggest guilds in one of the highest populated servers (Gandara). Still, I see a lot of legendary dual wielding guys in the main hubs, there is always 2-5 folks in LA (atm Vigil Keep) with legendaries, doesn’t matter which time I am there.

In my guild there are 3 people with Eternity. I myself have 3 legendaries and working on the 4th. About 10-20% of our guild has a legendary. If we do guild missions it’s all full of legendaries. They aren’t really rare…

I think the base HP and armor are correct.
But one would assume that, those differences would mean a trade-off, and the fact that this trade-off is based on mechanics, makes it too hard to balance.
Very well said, sir!
I don’t see a problem with the guardian, since they have a lot of mitigation, protection, blinds etc. But as an Ele it is really hard if you don’t invest in defense.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
It’s really clear. Also why can’t you use that? Don’t you have a kittenload of T5 etc. mats?

I have only one big problem: the drop rate. At the beginning the keys were at a low drop rate but at least they dropped from time to time.
As of now they throw the boxes at us (I have nearly 250 sitting in my bank for nothing) and I never ever get any key. They even dropped more often out of the Black Lion Box but it seems they lowered that too. I would really appreciate it if they would introduce a small drop rate like it is now with the unidentified dyes. The last time I got a Black Lion Key was a couple of months ago for completing a map, the last drop was about 1+ year ago. This is just nuts and it clearly shows that this is made to make money in a very cheap way.

I’d like to see a possibility to reallocate gear stats for further tweaking. Let’s say you have Assassin’s gear and want to spec a bit into toughness, so you can reallocate 50% of crit damage (soon Ferocity) into toughness etc.

GW1 veterans think this is how are dungeons run like me. Skipping is viable, if you don’t like it, just look for a group who want’s to kill every enemy in the dungeon. It will take ages though. As there is no real reward to kill the mobs you will alter your playstyle automatically and change to skipping. If you ran all the dungeons multiple times you won’t do it anyway, you want to go for the rewards which are at the end of the dungeon.

To be honest the community asked for those features for a long time.
Though as usual, Mr. Johanson (as likeable as he is) overpromised in interviews and again underdelivered. He told in an interview a couple of months ago that this feature patch will be similar to other MMOs feature patches with huge improvements etc etc.
At the end what we got – which is not bad, so to speak:
- Dye account bound
- Wardrobe with every skin we have is unlocked account wide
- Legendaries account bound
- a megaserver
- 5 new Grandmaster traits
- Balancing (ferocity, sigil/rune tweaks etc.)
- free trait resets and armor repair costs
In my view these are just some quality of life changes and some balancing every modern online game makes today – worth a side note in a huge content patch. I really don’t understand the hype they started. If they added at least legendary crafting or some additional fun content then I would be fine. But let’s face it: these are just some minor changes, though let’s see how the meta builds will change…
Oh I forgot, here the aforementioned interview:

Ele has the highest dps of any class. And the tradeoff is the low defense. Therefor you need a very keen eye and be very conscious. The effot to pull off high damage and defend with dodge and evades is far higher than playing a guardian or warrior (both more or less main).
I maxed my ele as one of the last classes (2nd last, before thief) and I am still learning all the little tricks. If you finally managed a full weapon set with all 4 attunements it opens a vast variety of playing around and it is super fun. Especially if you manage to pull off all those sick high dps tricks with FGS, LH among others.

Holy, those prices. I almost forgot how cheap stuff back then was. I made Sunrise in December 2012 and remember that I though 2 silver for a T6 mats is ‘expensive’.
I also sold Ghastly Grinning Shield Skin. Though for 60g. Still hurts a lot :’-(

One more thread about this. But I understand that they have to do something against this system. Anyway, I play since beta and early access and run dungeons pretty often. While most runs were with guildies, I pug pretty often as well and I never got kicked. Maybe in Fractals the issue is more present but usually as my previous poster said you shouldn’t get kicked if you behave and stay friendly.

Most MMOs have now a system to trade it back in a certain time. And if not, the customer service will refund you etc.
GW2 has one of the worst customer services I ever had contact with. Or let’s say: their system allows the customer service almost nothing. There is a lot to do in terms of customer friendliness.

As I am an altoholic (and haven’t played sometimes for a couple of weeks) I am constantly out of Laurels. I also changed builds on my most important charactels several times: before the uber god meta ‘Berserker’ blessed the community I had my Guardian in full PVT ascended trinkets, then cleric trinkets, then berserker trinkets. You see, I wasted a kittenload of laurels for trinkets I can’t use anymore. I don’t do a lot of fractals (too long, tedious etc.), so I have to rely on laurels to by the rings and amulets.

Never was my thing, I think it may be fun but I was never a too nerdy escapist to role play. Also, I think those are an extreme minority (a couple of percents). Still would be nice if they had at least one server in every region.

I always told here that the updates doesn’t really differ from other MMOs. In fact most MMOs deliver more and permanent content every 3-4 months plus expansions every 2 years. But let’s see what they deliver this and the next year. I really hope it will be less underwhelming. Until now I am pretty disappointed with the additional ‘content’. In GW1 we had 2 additional campaigns with new story, continents (Cantha and Elona), four(!) new classes and a couple of additional PvP modes and three Elite Missions after 1.5 years.

6’000 hours. That’s more than 10 hours a day… I can’t find any words to describe how questionable I find that. No job, no wife, no life?

The only reason they won’t make them account bound on creation (contrary to Ascended items) is that some rich guys who are willing to pay thousands of gems for gold will buy them. It’s that simple.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I like underwater content. It is very immersive and atmospheric. The combat is ok, I don’t understand what’s the problem with it.
The problem is really with the huge HP pool of the bosses. Especially HotW p2 is such a super boring annoying path with those two ice cube monsters taking ages to kill and then the one other boss that’s annoying (though at least a bit more interesting mechanics-wise). The last boss is extremely boring and has a kittenload of HP with no different phases – 5-10 minuntes of the same 3-4 attacks. I remember when I ran this path the first time – I couldn’t imagine how Anet could pass this as ‘good’ or ‘playable’. But then that came pretty often to my mind.
Take some ideas from other games. There are only a handful of interesting bosses in this game. The rest are just huge HP sponges with utterly boring mechanics.

+1 from me. If you are doing the UI: Please Anet, let us implement Sidebars, so we can have all our food, tonics etc. there. It is very annyoing to open the inventory all the time for this.
And if you are doing this: let us place the skills where WE want it.
I understand the UI is made simple so most people won’t be too confused (some sick WoW UIs come to my mind). But please let the ones that play seriously customize the UI freely as they like.
