Sword offhand was specifically not reccomended but it was used the entire time. Axe was reccomended but it wasnt used at all. Axe is horrible when there are multiple enemies so taking it just because theres a thief isnt realistic
That being said, all were 1v1 situations which isnt realistic either. A thief can jump from one point to another quick enough to +1 unseen and leave whenever it wants. It would have been nice to see how a class that can’t leave whenever it wants handles something like that.

Im talking about traits because even though Jalis when traited has condi damage reduction it is still a bad legend because of the power creep and lack of mobility. If the heal value was doubled or the energy for ROTGD was at 25 or 30 then maybe it would be worth using.

Chronomancers have so many blocks/evades. Just always be aware of your surroundings and be ready to pop distortion or something when you know there is a thief nearby; they can’t stay in stealth very long without giving something away, and you can generally tell how long before a back-stab happens.
This doesnt help the OP, if a thief begins its approach and attack from stealth then what
mesmers can also one shot from stealth so embrace the “new” and improved pvp

Good play mime, really like the music but there is really something wrong with power mesmer. I ran a few matches against a power mesmer some hours ago and it was the exact same thing. Im finishing someone and then lose over 80% of my hp in an instant even with the toughness stat,
The damage makes absolutely no sense especially considering the permanent stun. if you manage to break through all the stuns and damage with some hp left, the counter is negated and then you have to go through another round of 20k damage burst and constant CCs.
When i down the mesmer it was only because i happened to not have anyone else pestering me at the time or adding to the CC.
Fresh air ele was nerfed for too much burst damage but mesmer being the studio’s golden class must be given special treatment as usual i suppose.
Initially i didnt want to make this post because studio is largely not interested in taking suggestion posts seriously but there is some dev talk about courtyard coming back so here we are.
The way the combat is right now it is obvious that it is not really about sending the next guy to respawn but more about contesting points and rotating. The excessive amounts of ports stealth, invulnerability and the need for escape skills all suggest that is the case.
So if you find yourself fighting in a standard match and you are playing for a point, it is a good thing if the other player is constantly in stealth, porting and escaping because you keep the point which contributes to the win, but if we are talking combat where it is about who dies then those abilities become an unfair advantage to the player that has it.
This is not all that surprising, a lot of games with some form of a strategic versus system have combinations that are considered too much such as TCGs. Nearly every modern TCG has cards that are banned in certain modes because some combinations are just too strong even though every player has access to all of it. GW2 is no different.
For example, stealth then moa . Not much you can do against a combo like this except throw out random defensives, and lets not forget about stacking.
If we are talking about bringing back pure 5v5 combat, just like a tcg there are certain parts of different classes that you will have to tone down or make better. This thing with DH countering thieves, and thieves countering revenants, conditions countering revenants and moa guaranteeing the kill cannot happen, especially because of stacking. Neither can invulnerability stacking, stealth spamming, condi thief using only two buttons, necros starting with no life force, i could go on and on.
All this can be handled in 5v5 conquest where the point is capturing points not necessarily chasing a k/d ratio but for 5v5 arena combat no absolutely not.

Revs in Ventari and geared towards healing have pretty insane burst healing and their passive healing isn’t to far behind an ele that ops to take the soothing waters grandmaster buff. I’d say the hardest thing is landing the heals on moving teammates
It’s just that you get crapped on vs opponents who use CC and you have to reduce your healing output to almost 0 in order to provide boon support/counter to condi dps.
Theres way too much CC tbh. Black desert online used to have the kind of CC this game has then they changed it so that if you get cc’d, you cant again for 3-4 seconds.

Since the game is CPU and not GPU bound, GPU performance beyond the point the game isn’t waiting on the GPU anymore, simply can’t affect performance.
Yea because of the number of objects the game is CPU intense, but i find it hard to believe that that is the reason why fps still drops below 30 on the lowest settings when running specs years better than gw2’s minimum. If its not the GPU and its not the CPU then it can only be one other thing

I will give you that it makes no sense that some classes have enough active defenses and some dont, the ones who dont are punished for not having them. I also dont agree with the amount of invunerability mesmer in particular has. They already have ports, stealth, block, moa and the fastest burst in the game which is unrelenting on both power and condi. Why they also have invulnerbility that can be used multiple times in a fight is odd to me, yet revenant is constantly being nerfed, necro still has to rely on teammates and ele can only use tanking amulets.

I see 3 major issues with thieves:
- We have the damage but we can’t land it on anything besides other thieves

- team utility is abysmal.
Thief is a free roam, burst and go class based on ports and stealth. I dont really see how a class like that is going to be able to give true team utility. They are often at range when too many enemy skills are going off so they dont get blown up and when they are in range its either for a really short time or they are in stealth. Unless the team utility you want has a radius of 1200 (which is too high plus adds to their defense) thieves and team utility dont go together.

You are squishy because of stealth and permanently evading while doing high damage not just because of mobility.

balancing 3 game modes isnt an issue because they have tech to restrict class changes. Im more concerned about their technical abilities than anything else.
They dont know how to layout an interface.

My biggest issues with hammer is the jump pads that mess with players movements and the ledges that cant be teleported to. Is there a chance we get better teleporting mechanics or has Anet giving up on creating a good one. At least the map is much better, can knock the effort.
For future expansions, please dont create skill mechanics the team doesnt have the abilities for. It just causes more issues that no one wants. For example, the “no valid path” madness that lasted for weeks and thief/guardian shadowstep being more reliable than Necro’s minion recall and Rev’s shadow step.
I dont know what build logic is being used for the teleports but it would be nice if something was done about it before skyhammer drops
Because there’s no point to it. A month tops is more than enough time to get the data you need, any more than that and you’re wasting everyone’s time.

Pro tip: Stay out of duel rooms. They have zero bearing on conquest based pvp,.
This type of thinking is why there are so many in ranked that are bad at combat. A big part of conquest is fighting. If you cant take a thief 1v1 for what ever reason, how can you possibly take the same thief if they have a decent team. Hide behind teammates for support? because it is a “team game”? That just means you are a weak link. This is literally what every necro complains about.

but not inside it. Im assuming you are talking about the hammer ward because the staff ward is worthless.. Thief can just use bandits defense, maybe get in a knockdown, probably a steal, spam vault, shadowstep (which every thief uses at no cost to evades).
Only thing that can hold the thief is dragons maw and even then its not guaranteed because of bandits defense and shadowstep which the thief probably is using.

They’ve done nothing about perma stealthing builds all this time, even guardians, of all classes have frequent access to stealth. If the game survives another 2 years (that is if the artists get tired of carrying the studio) watch an across the board nerf to all stealth and invulnerable abilities.
Important changes they’ve made:
- They made it so you can’t cap a point in stealth (both PvP and WvW)
- They introduced a ton of revealed debuff skills
- They tweaked/balanced stealth durations and stealth based effects
Indirectly, the changing of the game has effected stealth play. Such as increased AoE, CC, and damage, including condition spam and effective ticks. Hiding in stealth means very little when your enemies can hit you anyway, and things like condi’s eat you alive regardless.
Conclusion: You’re wrong
O really, go into a duel room and fight a PU mesmer or dp thief with a necro and then tell me how that worked out for you lol.
Nearly all of those reveal skills have cooldowns, require a utility slot and dont do much except reveal. Keep in mind stealth can be applied permanently and revealing does not necessarily mean death for the revealed class (which for some absurd reason now includes guardian, of all classes) because of multiple active defenses and escapes.
So aside from a couple of exceptions, taking a dedicated reveal skill really does not help you. Thats why only 3 of the 6 classes with reveal use it, and mainly because of its other effects. You might say well the fact they exist is good enough, well no, we’ve gone past the point of throwing in utility skills for situational purposes.
If the reveals could not be evaded, miss or be blocked then that would be one thing.
I really dont understand the fascination these devs have with causing other classes to not attack 90% of the time. Heavy stealth is not even something that makes combat all that interesting, its just one of those things people are forced to deal with. Its necro i feel sorry for the most, no mobility but yet warrior got a reveal skill before they did (which they wont use btw).
If necros finally get one, I’m 100% certain devs will do something really silly and put it on an underused utility skill instead of attaching it to a trait just to add more pressure to necro’s utility

for some reasons lol, thats code for $*&T programming, Why do teleports in the first place if they couldnt get someone who could do it.

Lost me at 5 since skill timers are an option and have been as long as I remember.
Someone mentioned this earlier i ignored it cuz i thought it was a mistake.
Turn on skill timers, use your weapon skills with cooldowns then swap weapons. Can you see the timer on the skills you just used? No? There you go.
I imagine Grouch or Gaile woud have seen this thread by now and i think Gaile is in programming
Plz tell who ever is supposed to do the interface to drop the slot sizes for weapons and utility skills and then fit in a space for trait passives, sigils and rune cooldowns represented by symbols. Add in a slightly transparent progress bar at the bottom of each skill slot that shows the cooldown for skills you swapped from that share the same slot. Then figure something out for transformation skill cooldowns like celestial form and shroud. I dunno what you are gonna do about eles tho
I dont think any mmorpg created makes you guess when your skills are off cooldown. Definitely not any done in the last 15 years.

I dunno man, i played thief for about a year before the june 23rd 2015 patch, when S/D was playable, it was rlly easy to counter guards because of their lack of mobility if you had nice evasion timing. It was just a matter of recalling during guards sword 3 and GS This is why guards have the traps and pull.
Also i had d/p as second set instead of shortbow to reduce the need to recall. I also tried fighting S/D thieves on guard and the same thing happened. The thief would have to be rlly slow to get killed by core guard back then.
Not too many people were that good at thief especially since pvp wasnt that big till HoT release so i can understand why many dont believe S/D acro countered guards.
If you guys remember, it was thief/warrior as the top classes then guard because meditations. 3 good thieves used to ruin entire mini zergs in WvW

1. Poor build variety, so many parts of each class not even used
2. Skills glitching with the map or bugged
3. Conditions vastly outperforming power builds
4. Bad PvP system. Newer games have tried pip system and quickly changed it.
5. Terrible interface. We really shouldnt be guessing (or “feeling”) when our skills are off cooldown. I suggested a small progress bar at the bottom of each slot that indicates the time left on the other skill that shares the same slot. Maybe changes colour to when the skill is off cooldown.
6. Still no ingame voice chat system. Honestly there is no excuse for this, there is an MMORPG released in 2009 that has it. I dont think people understand how huge this would be for PvP.
7. Constantly destroying and over buffing classes. I dont understand why this happens
- Guardian used to die to thieves, even S/D thief. Guardian should have been given some sort of mobility impairment skills or buffed the spirit weapons to keep up with base thieves, instea you created a no brain thing like trap dragon hunter that should always kill thieves.
- Constantly nerfing Revenant without fixing the bad stuff like hammer, glitchy skills, Salvation trait line, Ventari, Jalis. No stun break on Mallyx or Ventari. ridiculous heal on ventari.
- Pushing eles to pure support tank then to uselessness then to slightly more manageable uselessness.
Honestly after switching my main from necro to thief then to revenant, I thought if I could still mantain my playstyle on Revenant i would probably stick around despite the foolishness the studio feeds us every patch but after the change to unwavering avoidance after the changes to phase traversal plus the other legends being useless, i think im tired man, its been 4 years of this anti-progress nonsense.
It really sucks because i got invited to a team and was serously considering it, maybe even appearing on ESL but after this patch there is no way.

I think they were responding to people complaining about how they balance with a giant hammer, so now they tried balancing with a tiny mallet.
This feels like more of a mid-season hotfix than a patch. Can we get something more meaningful? There are so many traits and skills in this game that need love. Us players send so many suggestions too. Some of them are good. Please take more of our suggestions.
Only nerfing a class when there are many parts of it that bugged or just plain bad isnt balancing with a mallet, its just plain foolishness.
The same tape all over again. “they could have” “to compensate” “we still have lots of bugs”. It’s useless to discuss it here.
I have never been a fan of class changing prostitution and obvserving my class slowly becoming useless in some aspects of this game upsets me to an extent I bought some CBT keys for some soon to be released f2p mmo.

Yea this change is really great. Honestly i thought the invuln frames was some kind of result of bad coding, i didnt know it was intended. Was seriously irritating to deal with. Maybe we can now move on to being able to stun downed people.
If they finally learn how to build skill mechanics properly, It would be nice to see scorp wire attached to dancing dagger as a flip over skill with a cost of 4 or 5 initiative.
I feel this would be a huge improvement for S/D and power D/D, the kind that just might make them extremely viable competitively. Will improve condi D/D but not by a whole lot because of the need for death blossom spams. Would be intereesting to see how it would be used with P/D.
It is pathetic that dh traps still affect enemies that shadowstep. I dunno when these guys will finally move away from creating counter classes. If scorp wire was attached to dancing dagger, there would be some much needed counterplay to traps. It is not right that one horrible DH would breeze past an expert thief on mechanics alone

Necro, kittenedly sluggish for no reason with horrible utility with nothing about the class to compensate for the forced thematics. Wasted 2 years playing it then switched to thief. They then pushed the class further into stealth and spam which i dont enjoy at all and now rev. Now they been slowly messing up the class.
I just want this combat to get copied by a more intelligent studio.
If the skills have to function differently to compensate for the differences between the modes i am all for it. The major problem is these little….they dont listen…at all. They spend time making making useless buffs and irritating nerfs instead of solving build diversity and utility issues on classes that have it
Rev had 3 builds (invo power, retri power, condi), now you can pretty much only play gutted version of invocation. gg anet, gg.
you rarely see mallyx builds in ranked. Invo and retri “builds” are shiro and glint. When was the last time you saw Jalis and Ventari. 9 times out of 10 you are going to see shiro glint with either invo or retri devastation and herald. That is not diversity if that is what you are trying to imply exists.
In the weeks leading to this patch there were like 2 huge threads on ventari and i believe one on Jalis. All of them ignored, not even a “no we cant make buffs to these legends because….”This is why this studio is terrible.

GS aftercast barely notice them, big increase on Axe dmg I like alot cause started to use it again. Nothing whtsoever to our sustain done and Anet “Necro is in a good state comment”- killed me… still laughing

Great thread man, hearts in the right place but you really wasted your time typing this stuff. The studio has zero intention of making any meaningful changes to class to the classes or how they affect each other.
This type of combat hasnt been done before on this scale, and to level it out, it takes a ridiculous amount of creativity and intelligence. They have a great arts team but unfortunately thats about it.
Conditions and condition remove is ridiculous. The old condition remove was fine once they nerfed A.R and Diamond skin. They brought A.R. back with resistance warrior and rebuffed diamond skin while giving mesmer condition removal on shatter. Then they over buffed everyone’s conditions after they already made them all stack. The result is a power creeped balance of condition damage and condition removal. Some power creep is fine. But you must have the hp to deal with it. This power creep requires twice the Hp across classes because they are doing twice the damage of the pre HoT builds.
I see you still havent figured out why the power creep happened in the first place.
